The efficiency and the effectiveness of a machine learning (ML) model are greatly influenced by feature selection (FS), a crucial preprocessing step in machine learning that seeks out the ideal set of characteristics with the maximum accuracy possible. Due to their dominance over traditional optimization techniques, researchers are concentrating on a variety of metaheuristic (or evolutionary) algorithms and trying to suggest cutting-edge hybrid techniques to handle FS issues. The use of hybrid metaheuristic approaches for FS has thus been the subject of numerous research works. The purpose of this paper is to critically assess the existing hybrid FS approaches and to give a thorough literature review on the hybridization of different metaheuristic/evolutionary strategies that have been employed for supporting FS. This article reviews pertinent documents on hybrid frameworks that were published in the period from 2009 to 2022 and offers a thorough analysis of the used techniques, classifiers, datasets, applications, assessment metrics, and schemes of hybridization. In this paper, a stochastic-metaheuristic model is performed for multi-objective allocation of photovoltaic (PV) resources in 33-bus and 69-bus distribution systems to minimize power losses of the distribution system lines, improving the voltage profile and voltage stability of the distribution system buses, considering the uncertainty of PV units' power and network demand. The decision-making variables, including installation location and the size of PVs, are determined optimally via an improved human learning optimization algorithm (IHLOA). The conventional human learning optimization algorithm (IHLOA) is improved based on Gaussian mutation to enhance the exploration capability and avoid getting trapped in local optimal. The methodology is implemented in two cases as deterministic and stochastic without and with uncertainties, respectively. Monte Carol Simulation (MCS) based on probability distribution function (PDF) is used for uncertainties modeling. The deterministic results proved the superiority of the IHLOA compared with conventional HLOA, particle swarm optimization (PSO), to obtain better values of the different objectives and faster convergence speed and accuracy. The results are clear that enhancing the conventional HLOA has increased the algorithm's ability to explore and achieve the optimal global solution with higher convergence accuracy. Moreover, the stochastic results were clear that considering the uncertainties leads to correct and robust decision-making against existing uncertainties and accurate knowledge of the network operator against the exact values of various objectives compared to the deterministic case. Chimp Optimization Algorithm (ChOA), a novel meta-heuristic algorithm, has been proposed in recent years. It divides the population into four different levels for the purpose of hunting. However, there are still some defects that lead to the algorithm falling into the local optimum. To overcome these defects, an Enhanced Chimp Optimization Algorithm (EChOA) is developed in this paper. Highly Disruptive Polynomial Mutation (HDPM) is introduced to further explore the population space and increase the population diversity. Then, the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient between the chimps with the highest fitness and the lowest fitness is calculated. In order to avoid the local optimization, the chimps with low fitness values are introduced with Beetle Antenna Search Algorithm (BAS) to obtain visual ability. Through the introduction of the above three strategies, the ability of population exploration and exploitation is enhanced. On this basis, this paper proposes an EChOA-SVM model, which can optimize parameters while selecting the features. Thus, the maximum classification accuracy can be achieved with as few features as possible. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the proposed method is compared with seven common methods, including the original algorithm. Seventeen benchmark datasets from the UCI machine learning library are used to evaluate the accuracy, number of features, and fitness of these methods. Experimental results show that the classification accuracy of the proposed method is better than the other methods on most data sets, and the number of features required by the proposed method is also less than the other algorithms. In this paper, we present a design method for a wideband non-uniformly spaced linear array (NUSLA), with both symmetric and asymmetric geometries, using the modified reinforcement learning algorithm (MORELA). We designed a cost function that provided freedom to the beam pattern by setting limits only on the beam width (BW) and side-lobe level (SLL) in order to satisfy the desired BW and SLL in the wide band. We added the scan angle condition to the cost function to design the scanned beam pattern, as the ability to scan a beam in the desired direction is important in various applications. In order to prevent possible pointing angle errors for asymmetric NUSLA, we employed a penalty function to ensure the peak at the desired direction. Modified reinforcement learning algorithm (MORELA), which is a reinforcement learning-based algorithm used to determine a global optimum of the cost function, is applied to optimize the spacing and weights of the NUSLA by minimizing the proposed cost function. In fault detection and the diagnosis of large industrial systems, whose chemical processes usually exhibit complex, high-dimensional, time-varying and non-Gaussian characteristics, the classification accuracy of traditional methods is low. In this paper, a kernel limit learning machine (KELM) based on an adaptive variation sparrow search algorithm (AVSSA) is proposed. Firstly, the dataset is optimized by removing redundant features using the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBOOST) model. Secondly, a new optimization algorithm, AVSSA, is proposed to automatically adjust the network hyperparameters of KELM to improve the performance of the fault classifier. Finally, the optimized feature sequences are fed into the proposed classifier to obtain the final diagnosis results. The Tennessee Eastman (TE) chemical process is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method through multidimensional diagnostic metrics. The results show that our proposed diagnosis method can significantly improve the accuracy of TE process fault diagnosis compared with traditional optimization algorithms. Data clustering is a complex data mining problem that clusters a massive amount of data objects into a predefined number of clusters; in other words, it finds symmetric and asymmetric objects. Various optimization methods have been used to solve different machine learning problems. They usually suffer from local optimal problems and unbalance between the search mechanisms. This paper proposes a novel hybrid optimization method for solving various optimization problems. The proposed method is called HRSA, which combines the original Reptile Search Algorithm (RSA) and Remora Optimization Algorithm (ROA) and handles these mechanisms' search processes by a novel transition method. The proposed HRSA method aims to avoid the main weaknesses raised by the original methods and find better solutions. The proposed HRSA is tested on solving various complicated optimization problems—twenty-three benchmark test functions and eight data clustering problems. The obtained results illustrate that the proposed HRSA method performs significantly better than the original and comparative state-of-the-art methods. The proposed method overwhelmed all the comparative methods according to the mathematical problems. It obtained promising results in solving the clustering problems. During the last years, highly-recognized computational intelligence techniques have been proposed to treat classification problems. These automatic learning approaches lead to the most recent researches because they exhibit outstanding results. Nevertheless, to achieve this performance, artificial learning methods firstly require fine tuning of their parameters and then they need to work with the best-generated model. This process usually needs an expert user for supervising the algorithm's performance. In this paper, we propose an optimized Extreme Learning Machine by using the Bat Algorithm, which boosts the training phase of the machine learning method to increase the accuracy, and decreasing or keeping the loss in the learning phase. To evaluate our proposal, we use the Parkinson's Disease audio dataset taken from UCI Machine Learning Repository. Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects over 10 million people. Although its diagnosis is through motor symptoms, it is possible to evidence the disorder through variations in the speech using machine learning techniques. Results suggest that using the bio-inspired optimization algorithm for adjusting the parameters of the Extreme Learning Machine is a real alternative for improving its performance. This paper features the study of global optimization problems and numerical methods of their solution. Such problems are computationally expensive since the objective function can be multi-extremal, nondifferentiable, and, as a rule, given in the form of a "black box". This study used a deterministic algorithm for finding the global extremum. This algorithm is based neither on the concept of multistart, nor nature-inspired algorithms. The article provides computational rules of the one-dimensional algorithm and the nested optimization scheme which could be applied for solving multidimensional problems. Please note that the solution complexity of global optimization problems essentially depends on the presence of multiple local extrema. In this paper, we apply machine learning methods to identify regions of attraction of local minima. The use of local optimization algorithms in the selected regions can significantly accelerate the convergence of global search as it could reduce the number of search trials in the vicinity of local minima. The results of computational experiments carried out on several hundred global optimization problems of different dimensionalities presented in the paper confirm the effect of accelerated convergence (in terms of the number of search trials required to solve a problem with a given accuracy). Orthogonal transformations, proper decomposition, and the Moore–Penrose inverse are traditional methods of obtaining the output layer weights for an extreme learning machine autoencoder. However, an increase in the number of hidden neurons causes higher convergence times and computational complexity, whereas the generalization capability is low when the number of neurons is small. One way to address this issue is to use the fast iterative shrinkage-thresholding algorithm (FISTA) to minimize the output weights of the extreme learning machine. In this work, we aim to improve the convergence speed of FISTA by using two fast algorithms of the shrinkage-thresholding class, called greedy FISTA (G-FISTA) and linearly convergent FISTA (LC-FISTA). Our method is an exciting proposal for decision-making involving the resolution of many application problems, especially those requiring longer computational times. In our experiments, we adopt six public datasets that are frequently used in machine learning: MNIST, NORB, CIFAR10, UMist, Caltech256, and Stanford Cars. We apply several metrics to evaluate the performance of our method, and the object of comparison is the FISTA algorithm due to its popularity for neural network training. The experimental results show that G-FISTA and LC-FISTA achieve higher convergence speeds in the autoencoder training process; for example, in the Stanford Cars dataset, G-FISTA and LC-FISTA are faster than FISTA by 48.42% and 47.32%, respectively. The increasing volume and velocity of the continuously generated data (data stream) challenge machine learning algorithms, which must evolve to fit real-world problems. The data stream clustering algorithms face issues such as the rapidly increasing volume of the data, the variety of the number of clusters, and their shapes. The present work aims to improve the accuracy of sequential clustering batches of data streams for scenarios in which clusters evolve dynamically and continuously, automatically estimating their number. In order to achieve this goal, three evolutionary algorithms are presented, along with three novel algorithms designed to deal with clusters of normal distribution based on goodness-of-fit tests in the context of scalable batch stream clustering with automatic estimation of the number of clusters. All of them are developed on top of MapReduce, Discretized-Stream models, and the most recent MPC frameworks to provide scalability, reliability, resilience, and flexibility. Interpretability and accuracy are two important features of fuzzy systems which are conflicting in their nature. One can be improved at the cost of the other and this situation is identified as "Interpretability-Accuracy Trade-Off". To deal with this trade-off Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEA) are frequently applied in the design of fuzzy systems. It is a non-deterministic challenge on a fog computing network to schedule resources or jobs in a manner that increases device efficacy and throughput, diminishes reply period, and maintains the system well-adjusted. Using Machine Learning as a component of neural computing, we developed an improved Task Group Aggregation (TGA) overflow handling system for fog computing environments. As a result of TGA usage in conjunction with an Artificial Neural Network (ANN), we may assess the model's QoS characteristics to detect an overloaded server and then move the model's data to virtual machines (VMs). Overloaded and underloaded virtual machines will be balanced according to parameters, such as CPU, memory, and bandwidth to control fog computing overflow concerns with the help of ANN and the machine learning concept. Additionally, the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm, which is a neural computing system, is employed as an optimization technique to separate the services and users depending on their individual qualities. The response time and success rate were both enhanced using the newly proposed optimized ANN-based TGA algorithm. Compared to the present work's minimal reaction time, the total improvement in average success rate is about 3.6189 percent, and Resource Scheduling Efficiency has improved by 3.9832 percent. In terms of virtual machine efficiency for resource scheduling, average success rate, average task completion success rate, and virtual machine response time are improved. The proposed TGA-based overflow handling on a fog computing domain enhances response time compared to the current approaches. This work proposes a new algorithm for optimizing hyper-parameters of a machine learning algorithm, RHOASo, based on conditional optimization of concave asymptotic functions. A comparative analysis of the algorithm is presented, giving particular emphasis to two important properties: the capability of the algorithm to work efficiently with a small part of a dataset and to finish the tuning process automatically, that is, without making explicit, by the user, the number of iterations that the algorithm must perform. Statistical analyses over 16 public benchmark datasets comparing the performance of seven hyper-parameter optimization algorithms with RHOASo were carried out. The efficiency of RHOASo presents the positive statistically significant differences concerning the other hyper-parameter optimization algorithms considered in the experiments. Furthermore, it is shown that, on average, the algorithm needs around 70 % of the iterations needed by other algorithms to achieve competitive performance. Multi-label learning is dedicated to learning functions so that each sample is labeled with a true label set. With the increase of data knowledge, the feature dimensionality is increasing. However, high-dimensional information may contain noisy data, making the process of multi-label learning difficult. Feature selection is a technical approach that can effectively reduce the data dimension. In the study of feature selection, the multi-objective optimization algorithm has shown an excellent global optimization performance. The Pareto relationship can handle contradictory objectives in the multi-objective problem well. Therefore, a Shapley value-fused feature selection algorithm for multi-label learning (SHAPFS-ML) is proposed. The method takes multi-label criteria as the optimization objectives and the proposed crossover and mutation operators based on Shapley value are conducive to identifying relevant, redundant and irrelevant features. The comparison of experimental results on real-world datasets reveals that SHAPFS-ML is an effective feature selection method for multi-label classification, which can reduce the classification algorithm's computational complexity and improve the classification accuracy. A convex minimization problem in the form of the sum of two proper lower-semicontinuous convex functions has received much attention from the community of optimization due to its broad applications to many disciplines, such as machine learning, regression and classification problems, image and signal processing, compressed sensing and optimal control. Many methods have been proposed to solve such problems but most of them take advantage of Lipschitz continuous assumption on the derivative of one function from the sum of them. In this work, we introduce a new accelerated algorithm for solving the mentioned convex minimization problem by using a linesearch technique together with a viscosity inertial forward–backward algorithm (VIFBA). A strong convergence result of the proposed method is obtained under some control conditions. As applications, we apply our proposed method to solve regression and classification problems by using an extreme learning machine model.
