Tectonic features on the Moon can reflect the state of stress during the formation of the structure, and sinuous rilles can provide further insight into the tectonic-thermal evolution of the Moon. Manual visual interpretation is the primary method for extracting these linear structures due to their complex morphology. However, extracting these features from the vast amount of lunar remote sensing data requires significant time and effort from researchers, especially for small-scale tectonic features, such as wrinkle ridges, lobate scarps, and high-relief ridges. In order to enhance the efficiency of linear structure detection, this paper conducts research on the automatic detection method of linear structures using sinuous rilles as an example case. In this paper, a multimodal semantic segmentation method, "Sinuous Rille Network (SR-Net)", for detecting sinuous rilles is proposed based on DeepLabv3+. This method combines advanced techniques such as ECA-ResNet and dynamic feature fusion. Compared to other networks, such as PSPNet, ResUNet, and DeepLabv3+, SR-Net demonstrates superior precision (95.20%) and recall (92.18%) on the multimodal sinuous rille test set. The trained SR-Net was applied in detecting lunar sinuous rilles within the range of 60°S to 60°N latitude. A new catalogue of sinuous rilles was generated based on the results of the detection process. The methodology proposed in this paper is not confined to the detection of sinuous rilles; with further improvements, it can be extended to the detection of other linear structures. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common sleep-breathing disorder that highly reduces the quality of human life. The most powerful method for the detection and classification of sleep apnea is the Polysomnogram. However, this method is time-consuming and cost-inefficient. Therefore, several methods focus on using electrocardiogram (ECG) signals to detect sleep apnea. This paper proposed a novel automated approach to detect and classify apneic events from single-lead ECG signals. Wavelet Scattering Transformation (WST) was applied to the ECG signals to decompose the signal into smaller segments. Then, a set of features, including higher-order statistics and entropy-based features, was extracted from the WST coefficients to formulate a search space. The obtained features were fed to a random forest classifier to classify the ECG segments. The experiment was validated using the 10-fold and hold-out cross-validation methods, which resulted in an accuracy of 91.65 % and 90.35 % , respectively. The findings were compared with different classifiers to show the significance of the proposed approach. This paper proposes the implementation of and experimentation with GPR for real-time automatic detection of buried IEDs. GPR, consisting of hardware and software, was implemented. A UWB antenna was designed and implemented, particularly for the operation of the GPR. The experiments were conducted in order to demonstrate the real-time automatic detection of buried IEDs using GPR with an R-CNN algorithm. In the experiments, the GPR was mounted on a pickup truck and a maintenance train in order to find the IEDs buried under a road and a railway, respectively. B-scan images were collected using the implemented GPR. R-CNN-based detection for the hyperbolic pattern, which indicates the buried IED, was performed along with pre-processing, for example, using zero offset removal, and background removal and filtering. Experimental results in terms of detecting the hyperbolic pattern in B-scan images were shown and verified that the proposed GPR system is superior to the conventional one using region analysis processing-based detection. Results also showed that pre-processing is required in order to improve and/or clean the hyperbolic pattern before detection. The digital optical fiber repeater (DOFR) is an important infrastructure in the LTE networks, which solve the problem of poor regional signal quality. Various types of conventional measurement data from the LTE network cannot indicate whether a working DOFR is present in the cell. Currently, the detection of DOFRs relies solely on maintenance engineers for field detection. Manual detection methods are not timely or efficient, because of the large number and wide geographical distribution of DOFRs. Implementing automatic detection of DOFR can reduce the maintenance cost for mobile network operators. We treat the DOFR detection problem as a classification problem and employ a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) to tackle it. The measurement report (MR) we used in this paper are tabular data, which is not an ideal input for DCNN. We propose a novel MR representation method that takes the overall MR data of a cell as a sample rather than a single record in the table, and represents the MR data as a pseudo-image matrix (PIM). The PIM will be used as the input for training DCNN, and the trained DCNN will be used to perform DOFR detection tasks. The Loess Plateau is an ecologically fragile area in China; furthermore, loess landslides are typical forms of geological disasters, which severely limit the sustainable development of the local societies and the economy. Studying the automatic detection of landslides can facilitate disaster prevention and mitigation in the Loess Plateau, and help realize the climate action goal (SDG 13) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper takes typical loess areas in China as the research object, and establishes a historical loess landslide sample database based on Google Earth (GEE) image data, with a total of 1451 loess landslides. The automatic detection of loess landslides is implemented by improving the You Only Look Once X (YOLOX) algorithm. The results show that the average accuracy of landslide detection in this method is 95.43%, and the accuracy rate is 96.32%, which effectively combines the earth's big data to realize the automatic detection of loess landslides. The research results provide technical support for the promotion of disaster prevention and mitigation in China's loess regions, the realization of sustainable development goals, and the improvement of natural disaster prevention–resistance–reduction systems. Shelf-out-of-stock is one of the leading motivations of technology innovation in the shelf of the future. The Shelf Detector project described in this paper aims to solve the problem of data knowledge in the shelf-out-of-stock problem. This paper is mainly focused on the information layer of the system and main novelties illustrated in this work are in the information field demonstrating the huge number of insights that can be derived from the use of such a tool able to gather data in real time from the store. The tool presented is the first being installed for a long time in a high number of stores and products, demonstrating the ability to gather data and extract interesting insights. This paper aims to demonstrate the feasibility and the scalability of our system in providing a high number of data and interesting insights for store and marketing teams. Bridge detection from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images has very important strategic significance and practical value, but there are still many challenges in end-to-end bridge detection. In this paper, a new deep learning-based network is proposed to identify bridges from SAR images, namely, multi-resolution attention and balance network (MABN). It mainly includes three parts, the attention and balanced feature pyramid (ABFP) network, the region proposal network (RPN), and the classification and regression. First, the ABFP network extracts various features from SAR images, which integrates the ResNeXt backbone network, balanced feature pyramid, and the attention mechanism. Second, extracted features are used by RPN to generate candidate boxes of different resolutions and fused. Furthermore, the candidate boxes are combined with the features extracted by the ABFP network through the region of interest (ROI) pooling strategy. Finally, the detection results of the bridges are produced by the classification and regression module. In addition, intersection over union (IOU) balanced sampling and balanced L1 loss functions are introduced for optimal training of the classification and regression network. In the experiment, TerraSAR data with 3-m resolution and Gaofen-3 data with 1-m resolution are used, and the results are compared with faster R-CNN and SSD. The proposed network has achieved the highest detection precision (P) and average precision (AP) among the three networks, as 0.877 and 0.896, respectively, with the recall rate (RR) as 0.917. Compared with the other two networks, the false alarm targets and missed targets of the proposed network in this paper are greatly reduced, so the precision is greatly improved. The detection of gas plumes from multibeam water column (MWC) data is the most direct way to discover gas hydrate reservoirs, but current methods often have low reliability, leading to inefficient detections. Therefore, this paper proposes an automatic method for gas plume detection and segmentation by analyzing the characteristics of gas plumes in MWC images. This method is based on the AdaBoost cascade classifier, combining the Haar-like feature and Local Binary Patterns (LBP) feature. After obtaining the detected result from the above algorithm, a target localization algorithm, based on a histogram similarity calculation, is given to exactly localize the detected target boxes, by considering the differences in gas plume and background noise in the backscatter strength. On this basis, a real-time segmentation method is put forward to get the size of the detected gas plumes, by integration of the image intersection and subtraction operation. Through the shallow-water and deep-water experiment verification, the detection accuracy of this method reaches 95.8%, the precision reaches 99.35% and the recall rate reaches 82.7%. Although plastic pollution is one of the most noteworthy environmental issues nowadays, there is still a knowledge gap in terms of monitoring the spatial distribution of plastics, which is needed to prevent its negative effects and to plan mitigation actions. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) can provide suitable data for mapping floating plastic, but most of the methods require visual interpretation and manual labeling. The main goals of this paper are to determine the suitability of deep learning algorithms for automatic floating plastic extraction from UAV orthophotos, testing the possibility of differentiating plastic types, and exploring the relationship between spatial resolution and detectable plastic size, in order to define a methodology for UAV surveys to map floating plastic. Two study areas and three datasets were used to train and validate the models. An end-to-end semantic segmentation algorithm based on U-Net architecture using the ResUNet50 provided the highest accuracy to map different plastic materials (F1-score: Oriented Polystyrene (OPS): 0.86; Nylon: 0.88; Polyethylene terephthalate (PET): 0.92; plastic (in general): 0.78), showing its ability to identify plastic types. The classification accuracy decreased with the decrease in spatial resolution, performing best on 4 mm resolution images for all kinds of plastic. In recent years, most multibeam echo sounders (MBESs) have been able to collect water column image (WCI) data while performing seabed topography measurements, providing effective data sources for gas-leakage detection. However, there can be systematic (e.g., sidelobe interference) or natural disturbances in the images, which may introduce challenges for automatic detection of gas leaks. In this paper, we design two data-processing schemes to estimate motion velocities based on the Farneback optical flow principle according to types of WCIs, including time-angle and depth-across track images. Moreover, by combining the estimated motion velocities with the amplitudes of the image pixels, several decision thresholds are used to eliminate interferences, such as the seabed, non-gas backscatters in the water column, etc. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we simulated the scenarios of pipeline leakage in a pool and the Songhua Lake, Jilin Province, China, and used a HT300 PA MBES (it was developed by Harbin Engineering University and its operating frequency is 300 kHz) to collect acoustic data in static and dynamic conditions. The automatic detection of shapes or patterns represented by signals captured from spacecraft data is essential to revealing interesting phenomena. A signal processing approach is generally used to extract useful information from observation data. In this paper, we propose an image analysis approach to process image datasets produced via plasma wave observations by the Arase satellite. The dataset consists of 31,380 PNG files generated from the dynamic power spectra of magnetic wave field data gathered from a one-year observation period from March 2017 to March 2018. We implemented an automatic detection system using image analysis to classify the various types of lightning whistlers according to the Arase whistler map. We successfully detected a large number of whistler traces induced by lightning strikes and recorded their corresponding times and frequencies. The various shapes of the lightning whistlers indicate different very-low-frequency propagations and provide important clues concerning the geospace electron density profile. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bottom trawl footprints are a prominent environmental impact of deep-sea fishery that was revealed through the evolution of underwater remote sensing technologies. Image processing techniques have been widely applied in acoustic remote sensing, but accurate trawl-mark (TM) detection is underdeveloped. The paper presents a new algorithm for the automatic detection and spatial quantification of TMs that is implemented on sidescan sonar (SSS) images of a fishing ground from the Gulf of Patras in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. This method inspects any structure of the local seafloor in an environmentally adaptive procedure, in order to overcome the predicament of analyzing noisy and complex SSS images of the seafloor. The initial preprocessing stage deals with radiometric inconsistencies. Then, multiplex filters in the spatial domain are performed with multiscale rotated Haar-like features through integral images that locate the TM-like forms and additionally discriminate the textural characteristics of the seafloor. The final TMs are selected according to their geometric and background environment features, and the algorithm successfully produces a set of trawling-ground quantification values that could be established as a baseline measure for the status assessment of a fishing ground.
