As the urgency of PM2.5 prediction becomes increasingly ingrained in public awareness, deep-learning methods have been widely used in forecasting concentration trends of PM2.5 and other atmospheric pollutants. Traditional time-series forecasting models, like long short-term memory (LSTM) and temporal convolutional network (TCN), were found to be efficient in atmospheric pollutant estimation, but either the model accuracy was not high enough or the models encountered certain challenges due to their own structure or some specific application scenarios. This study proposed a high-accuracy, hourly PM2.5 forecasting model, poly-dimensional local-LSTM Transformer, namely PD-LL-Transformer, by deep-learning methods, based on air pollutant data and meteorological data, and aerosol optical depth (AOD) data retrieved from the Himawari-8 satellite. This research was based on the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration (YRDUA), China for 2020–2022. The PD-LL-Transformer had three parts: a poly-dimensional embedding layer, which integrated the advantages of allocating and embedding multi-variate features in a more refined manner and combined the superiority of different temporal processing methods; a local-LSTM block, which combined the advantages of LSTM and TCN; and a Transformer encoder block. Over the test set (the whole year of 2022), the model's R2 was 0.8929, mean absolute error (MAE) was 4.4523 µg/m3, and root mean squared error (RMSE) was 7.2683 µg/m3, showing great accuracy for PM2.5 prediction. The model surpassed other existing models upon the same tasks and similar datasets, with the help of which a PM2.5 forecasting tool with better performance and applicability could be established. Satellite precipitation products can help improve precipitation estimates where ground-based observations are lacking; however, their relative accuracy and applicability in data-scarce areas remain unclear. Here, we evaluated the accuracy of different satellite precipitation datasets for the Lancang River Basin, Western China, including the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) 3B42RT, the Global Precipitation Measurement Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals (GPM IMERG), and Fengyun 2G (FY-2G) datasets. The results showed that GPM IMERG and FY-2G are superior to TRMM 3B42RT for meeting local research needs. A subsequent bias correction on these two datasets significantly increased the correlation coefficient and probability of detection of the products and reduced error indices such as the root mean square error and mean absolute error. To further improve data quality, we proposed a novel correction–fusion method based on window sliding data correction and Bayesian data fusion. Specifically, the corrected FY-2G dataset was merged with GPM IMERG Early, Late, and Final Runs. The resulting FY-Early, FY-Late, and FY-Final fusion datasets showed high correlation coefficients, strong detection performances, and few observation errors, thereby effectively extending local precipitation data sources. The results of this study provide a scientific basis for the rational use of satellite precipitation products in data-scarce areas, as well as reliable data support for precipitation forecasting and water resource management in the Lancang River Basin. Estimating and monitoring chlorophyll content is a critical step in crop spectral image analysis. The quick, non-destructive assessment of chlorophyll content in rice leaves can optimize nitrogen fertilization, benefit the environment and economy, and improve rice production management and quality. In this research, spectral analysis of rice leaves is performed using hyperspectral and fluorescence spectroscopy for the detection of chlorophyll content in rice leaves. This study generated ninety experimental spectral datasets by collecting rice leaf samples from a farm in Sichuan Province, China. By implementing a feature extraction algorithm, this study compresses redundant spectral bands and subsequently constructs machine learning models to reveal latent correlations among the extracted features. The prediction capabilities of six feature extraction methods and four machine learning algorithms in two types of spectral data are examined, and an accurate method of predicting chlorophyll concentration in rice leaves was devised. The IVSO-IVISSA (Iteratively Variable Subset Optimization–Interval Variable Iterative Space Shrinkage Approach) quadratic feature combination approach, based on fluorescence spectrum data, has the best prediction performance among the CNN+LSTM (Convolutional Neural Network Long Short-Term Memory) algorithms, with corresponding RMSE-Train (Root Mean Squared Error), RMSE-Test, and RPD (Ratio of standard deviation of the validation set to standard error of prediction) indexes of 0.26, 0.29, and 2.64, respectively. We demonstrated in this study that hyperspectral and fluorescence spectroscopy, when analyzed with feature extraction and machine learning methods, provide a new avenue for rapid and non-destructive crop health monitoring, which is critical to the advancement of smart and precision agriculture. Due to its effectiveness as a risk-hedging trading strategy in financial markets, futures arbitrage is highly sought after by investors in turbulent market conditions. The essence of futures arbitrage lies in formulating strategies based on predictions of future futures price differentials. However, contemporary research predominantly focuses on projections of single indicators for the subsequent temporal juncture, and devising efficacious arbitrage strategies often necessitates the examination of multiple indicators across timeframes. To tackle the aforementioned challenge, our methodology leverages a PSO Deep-ConvLSTM network, which, through particle swarm optimization (PSO), refines hyperparameters, including layer architectures and learning rates, culminating in superior predictive performance. By analyzing temporal-spatial data within financial markets through ConvLSTM, the model captures intricate market patterns, performing better in forecasting than traditional models. Multistep forward simulation experiments and extensive ablation studies using future data from the Shanghai Futures Exchange in China validate the effectiveness of the integrated model. Compared with the gate recurrent unit (GRU), long short-term memory (LSTM), Transformer, and FEDformer, this model exhibits an average reduction of 39.8% in root mean squared error (RMSE), 42.5% in mean absolute error (MAE), 45.6% in mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and an average increase of 1.96% in coefficient of determination (R2) values. Simple Summary: In recent years, the damage inflicted upon vegetation by the fall webworm (FWW), Hyphantria cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiidae), has escalated globally. The black-headed fall webworm has extensively invaded regions in Europe and Asia. In China, scholars have conducted extensive research on the fall webworm. However, there has been limited research on the dynamics of invasion by the black-headed form of the fall webworm and the comprehensive interplay of various factors affecting its spread. Therefore, this study focuses on the dynamics of invasion by the black-headed form of the fall webworm and the combined influence of various factors affecting its spread. The plan is to map the invasion road map of Autumn Dictyophora melanocephala since its introduction into China and summarize the effects of terrain, vegetation, and human factors on the temporal and spatial changes of the species. The fall webworm (FWW), H. cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiidae), is an extremely high-risk globally invasive pest. Understanding the invasion dynamics of invasive pests and identifying the critical factors that promote their spread is essential for devising practical and efficient strategies for their control and management. The invasion dynamics of the FWW and its influencing factors were analyzed using standard deviation ellipse and spatial autocorrelation methods. The analysis was based on statistical data on the occurrence of the FWW in China. The dissemination pattern of the FWW between 1979 and 2022 followed a sequence of "invasion-occurrence-transmission-outbreak", spreading progressively from coastal to inland regions. Furthermore, areas with high nighttime light values, abundant ports, and non-forested areas with low vegetation cover at altitudes below 500 m were more likely to be inhabited by the black-headed FWW. The dynamic invasion pattern and the driving factors associated with the fall webworm (FWW) provide critical insights for future FWW management strategies. These strategies serve not only to regulate the dissemination of insects and diminish migratory tendencies but also to guarantee the implementation of efficient early detection systems and prompt response measures. Tropical cyclones (TCs) are characterized by robust vortical motion and intense thermodynamic processes, often causing damage in coastal cities as they result in landfall. Accurately estimating the ensemble mean of TC precipitation is critical for forecasting and remains a foremost global challenge. In this study, we develop an ensemble algorithm based on the feature-oriented mean (FM) suitable for spatially discrete variables in precipitation ensembles. This method can adjust the locations of ensemble precipitation fields to reduce the location-related deviations among ensemble members, ultimately enhancing the ensemble mean forecast skill for TC precipitation. To evaluate the feasibility of the FM in TC precipitation ensemble forecasting, 18 landing TC cases in China from 2019 to 2021 were selected for validation. For precipitation forecasts of the landing TCs with a varying leading time, we conducted a comprehensive quantitative evaluation and comparison of the precipitation forecast skills of the FM and arithmetic mean (AM) algorithms. The results indicate that the field adjustment algorithm in the FM can effectively align with the TC precipitation structure and the location of the ensemble mean, reducing the spatial divergence among precipitation fields. The FM method demonstrates superior performance in the equitable threat score, probability of detection, and false alarm ratio compared with the AM, exhibiting an overall improvement of around 10%. Furthermore, the FM ensemble mean shows a higher pattern of the correlation coefficient with observations and has a smaller root mean square error than the AM ensemble mean, signifying that the FM method can better preserve the characteristics of the precipitation structure. Additionally, an object-based diagnostic evaluation method was used to verify forecast results, and the results suggest that the attribute distribution of FM forecast objects more closely resembles that of observed precipitation objects (including the area, longitudinal and latitudinal centroid locations, axis angle, and aspect ratio). Deformation along a subway rail network is related to the safe operation of the subway and the stability of construction facilities on the surface, making long-term deformation monitoring imperative. Long-term monitoring of surface deformation along the subway network and statistical analysis of the overall deformation situation are lacking in China. Therefore, targeting 35 Chinese cities whose subway mileage exceeds 50 km, we extracted their surface deformation along subway networks between 2018 and 2022, using spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR) technology and Sentinel-1 satellite data. We verified the results with the continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) stations' data and found that the root mean square error (RMSE) of the InSAR results was 3.75 mm/year. Statistical analysis showed that ground subsidence along the subways was more prominent in Beijing, Tianjin, and other areas in the North China Plain, namely Kunming (which is dominated by karst landforms), as well as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, and other coastal cities. In addition, an analysis revealed that the severity of surface subsidence correlated positively with a city's gross domestic product (GDP) with a Pearson correlation of 0.787, since the higher the GDP, the more frequent the construction and maintenance of subway, and the more commuters there are, which in turn exacerbates the disturbance to the surface. Additionally, the type of land cover also affects the ground deformation. Our findings provide a reference for constructing, operating, and maintaining the urban subway systems in China. Satellite precipitation products (SPPs) are of great significance for water resource management and utilization in China; however, they suffer from considerable uncertainty. While numerous researchers have evaluated the accuracy of various SPPs, further investigation is needed to assess their performance across China's nine major water resource regions. This study used the latest precipitation dataset of the China Meteorological Administration's Land Surface Data Assimilation System (CLDAS-V2.0) as the benchmark and evaluated the performance of six SPPs—GSMaP, PERSIANN, CMORPH, CHIRPS, GPM IMERG, and TRMM—using six indices: correlation coefficient (CC), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), probability of detection (POD), false alarm rate (FAR), and critical success index (CSI), at both daily and hourly scales across China's nine water resource regions. The conclusions of this study are as follows: (1) The performance of the six SPPs was generally weaker in the west than in the east, with the Continental Basin (CB) exhibiting the poorest performance, followed by the Southwest Basin (SB). (2) At the hourly scale, the performance of the six SPPs was weaker compared to the daily scale, particularly in the high-altitude CB and the high-latitude Songhua and Liaohe River Basin (SLRB), where observing light precipitation and snowfall presents significant challenges. (3) GSMaP, CMORPH, and GPM IMERG demonstrated superior overall performance compared to CHIRPS, PERISANN, and TRMM. (4) CMORPH was found to be better suited for application in drought-prone areas, showcasing optimal performance in the CB and SB. GSMaP excelled in humid regions, displaying the best overall performance in the remaining seven basins. GPM IMERG serves as a complementary precipitation data source for the first two. The GF-7 satellite is China's first high-resolution stereo mapping satellite that reaches sub-meter resolution, equipped with new-type payloads, such as an area array footprint camera that can achieve synchronization acquisition of laser spots. When the satellite is in space, the variation of camera parameters may occur due to launch vibration and environmental changes, and on-orbit geometric calibration thereby must be made. Coupled with the data from the GF-7 satellite, this paper constructs a geometric imaging model of the area array footprint camera based on the two-dimensional direction angle, and proposes a coarse-to-fine "LPM-SIFT + Phase correlation" matching strategy for the automatic extraction of calibration control points. The single-image calibration experiment shows that the on-orbit geometric calibration model of the footprint camera constructed in this paper is correct and effective. The matching method proposed is used to register the footprint images with the DOM (Digital Orthophoto Map) reference data to obtain dense control points. Compared with the calibration result using a small number of manually collected control points, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the residual of the control points is improved from half a pixel to 1/3, and the RMSE of the same orbit checkpoints in the image space is improved from 1 pixel to 0.7. It can be concluded that using the coarse-to-fine image matching method proposed in this paper to extract control points can significantly improve the on-orbit calibration accuracy of the footprint camera on the GF-7 satellite. Lake bottom topography is a basic parameter that reflects the elevation of all lake bottom geographical locations. In this study, a novel method was proposed for mapping lake bottom topography by combining the water occurrence map from the Global Surface Water (GSW) dataset with long-term measured water levels. This method took advantage of the following feature: the rapid change in water level of a lake's dynamic inundation area leads to a different water occurrence frequency and, therefore, put forward the concept of lake water level frequency, which refers to the frequency at which the water level is higher than or equal to a specified elevation. As water occurs more frequently in lake bottoms with lower elevations and less frequently in lake bottoms with higher elevations, we assume that lake water level frequency is identical to the water occurrence frequency over a long time. The water level frequency curve of all the measured water level data was generated through the P-III distribution function, and the elevation values from the water level frequency curve were assigned to pixels with the same frequency in the water occurrence map in order to generate the lake bottom topographic map. A case study was conducted on Poyang Lake in China to demonstrate the performance of the method. The derived bottom topographic map of Poyang Lake was verified by four measured sections. The results showed that the proposed method was feasible and could well reflect the bottom topography of Poyang Lake. The absolute error was mostly less than 0.5 m, the mean relative error was 7.4%, and the root mean square error was 0.99 m. Chlorophyll-a (chl-a) serves as a key indicator in water quality and harmful algal blooms (HABs) research. While satellite ocean color data have greatly advanced chl-a research and HABs monitoring, missing data caused by cloud cover and other factors limit the spatiotemporal continuity and the utility of remote sensing data products. The Data Interpolating Empirical Orthogonal Function (DINEOF) method, widely used to reconstruct missing values in remote sensing datasets, is open to improvement in terms of computational accuracy and efficiency. We propose an improved method called Concentration-Stratified DINEOF (CS-DINEOF), which uses a coordinate–value correlative data division strategy to stratify the study area into several subregions based on annual average chl-a concentration. The proposed method clusters data points with similar spatiotemporal patterns, allowing for more targeted and effective reconstruction in each sub-dataset. The feasibility and advantage of the proposed method are tested and evaluated in the experiments of chl-a data reconstruction in the water of the Bohai Sea. Compared with the ordinary DINEOF method, the CS-DINEOF method improves the reconstruction accuracy, with an average Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) reduction of 0.0281 mg/m3, and saves computational time by 228.9%. Furthermore, the gap-free images generated from CS-DINEOF are able to illustrate small variations and details of the chl-a distribution in local areas. To fully leverage the spatiotemporal dynamic correlations in air traffic flow and enhance the accuracy of traffic flow prediction models, thereby providing a more precise basis for perceiving congestion situations in the air route network, a study was conducted on a traffic flow prediction method based on deep learning considering spatiotemporal factors. A waypoint network topology graph was constructed, and a neural network model called graph convolution and self-attention-based long short-term memory neural network (GC-SALSTM) was proposed. This model utilized waypoint flow and network efficiency loss rate as input features, with graph convolution extracting spatial features from the waypoint network. Additionally, a long short-term memory network based on a self-attention mechanism was used to extract temporal features, achieving accurate prediction of waypoint traffic. An example analysis was performed on a typical busy sector of airports in the Central and Southern China region. The effectiveness of adding the network efficiency loss rate as an input feature to improve the accuracy of critical waypoint traffic prediction was validated. The performance of the proposed model was compared with various typical prediction models. The results indicated that, with the addition of the network efficiency loss rate, the root mean square error (RMSE) for eight waypoints decreased by more than 10%. Compared to the historical average (HA), autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), support vector regression (SVR), long short-term memory (LSTM), and graph convolution network and long short-term memory network (GCN-LSTM) models, the RMSE of the proposed model decreased by 11.78%, 5.55%, 0.29%, 2.53%, and 1.09%, respectively. This suggests that the adopted network efficiency loss rate indicator effectively enhances prediction accuracy, and the constructed model exhibits superior predictive performance in short-term waypoint traffic forecasting compared to other prediction models. It contributes to optimizing flight paths and high-altitude air routes, minimizing flight delays and airborne congestion to the greatest extent, thus enhancing the overall efficiency of the entire aviation system. International students play a crucial role in China's talent development strategy. Thus, predicting overseas talent mobility is essential for formulating scientifically reasonable talent introduction policies, optimizing talent cultivation systems, and fostering international talent cooperation. In this study, we proposed a novel fractional-order grey model based on the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm to forecast the movement of overseas talent, namely MGDFGM(1,1). Compared to the traditional grey model FGM(1,1), which utilizes the same fractional order at all time points, the proposed MGDFGM(1,1) model dynamically adjusts the fractional-order values based on the time point. This dynamic adjustment enables our model to better capture the changing trends in the data, thereby enhancing the model's fitting capability. To validate the effectiveness of the MGDFGM(1,1) model, we primarily utilize Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) as the evaluation criteria for the prediction accuracy, as well as standard deviation (STD) as an indicator of the model stability. Furthermore, we perform experimental analysis to evaluate the predictive performance of the MGDFGM(1,1) model in comparison to NAÏVE, ARIMA, GM(1,1), FGM(1,1), LSSVR, MLP, and LSTM. The research findings demonstrate that the MGDFGM(1,1) model achieves a remarkably high level of prediction accuracy and stability for forecasting overseas talent mobility in China. The development of an accurate root water-uptake model is pivotal for evaluating crop evapotranspiration; understanding the combined effect of drought and waterlogging stresses; and optimizing water use efficiency, namely, crop yield [kg/ha] per unit of ET [mm]. Existing models often lack quantitative approaches to depicting crop root water uptake in scenarios of concurrent drought and waterlogging moisture stresses. Addressing this as our objective; we modified the Feddes root water-uptake model by revising the soil water potential response threshold and by introducing a novel method to calculate root water-uptake rates under simultaneous drought and waterlogging stresses. Then, we incorporated a water stress lag effect coefficient, φ W s , that investigated the combined effect of historical drought and waterlogging stress events based on the assumption that the normalized influence weight of each past stress event decreases with an increase in the time interval before simulation as an exponential function of the decay rate. Further, we tested the model parameters and validated the results obtained with the modified model using data from three years (2016–2018) of rice (Oryza sativa, L) trails with pots in Bengbu, China. The modified Feddes model significantly improved precision by 9.6% on average when calculating relative transpiration rates, particularly post-stress recovery, and by 5.8% on average when simulating soil moisture fluctuations during drought periods. The root mean square error of relative transpiration was reduced by 60.8%, and soil water was reduced by 55.1%. By accounting for both the accumulated impact of past moisture stress and current moisture conditions in rice fields, the modified model will be useful in quantifying rice transpiration and rice water use efficiency in drought–waterlogging-prone areas in southern China. The water yield of aquifers increases the risk of water inflow, threatens the safe production of coal mines, and even causes geological disasters and construction hazards. To predict water yield quickly and accurately, multiple composite factors are used to invert unit water inflow rates to judge water yield grade. Taking the typical representative of north China-type coal fields as an example, six factors are selected: aquifer thickness, the radius of influence, normalized drawdown, permeability coefficient, the core rate of drilling holes, and the proportion of clay thickness to the thickness of the lower group. The whale optimization algorithm (WOA)–convolutional neural network (CNN)–support vector machine (SVM) model is established with the unit water inflow rate as the forecast target, and different models are selected for comparison. The water yield zoning map is obtained by bringing the borehole data into the model for prediction. The findings indicate that the root mean square error and average absolute error of the composite predictive model models are 0.0318 and 0.0268, respectively, and the model outperforms alternative models. Estuarine reservoirs are critical for freshwater supply and security, especially for regions facing water scarcity challenges due to climate change and population growth. Conventional methods for assessing drought severity or monitoring reservoir water level and storage are often limited by data availability, accessibility and quality. We present an approach for monitoring estuarine reservoir water levels, storage and extreme drought via satellite remote sensing and waterline detection. Based on the CoastSat algorithm, Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 images from 2013 to 2022 were adopted to extract the waterline of Qingcaosha Reservoir, the largest estuarine reservoir in the world and a key source of freshwater for Shanghai, China. This study confirmed the accuracy of the satellite-extracted results through two main methods: (1) calculating the angle of the central shoal slope in the reservoir using the extracted waterline data and measured water levels and (2) inverting the time series of water levels for comparison with measured data. The correlation coefficient of the estimated water level reached ~0.86, and the root mean square error (RMSE) of the estimated shoal slope was ~0.2°, indicating that the approach had high accuracy and reliability. We analyzed the temporal and spatial patterns of waterline changes and identified two dates (21 February 2014 and 15 October 2022) when the reservoir reached the lowest water levels, coinciding with periods of severe saltwater intrusions in the estuary. The extreme drought occurrences in the Qingcaosha Reservoir were firstly documented through the utilization of remote sensing data. The results also indicate a strong resilience of the Qingcaosha Reservoir and demonstrate that the feasibility and utility of using satellite remote sensing and waterline detection for estuarine reservoir storage can provide timely and accurate information for water resource assessment, management and planning. To attain precise forecasts of surface displacements and deformations in goaf areas (a void or cavity that remains underground after the extraction of mineral resources) following coal extraction, this study based on the limitations of individual time function models, conducted a thorough analysis of how the parameters of the model impact subsidence curves. Parameter estimation was conducted using the trust-region reflective algorithm (TRF), and the time function models were identified. Then we utilized a combined model approach and introduced the sliding window mechanism to assign variable weights to the model. Based on this, the combined model was used for prediction, followed by the application of this composite prediction to engineering scenarios for the dynamic forecasting of surface movements and deformations. The results indicated that, in comparison with DE, GA, PSO algorithms, the TRF exhibited superior stability and convergence. The parameter models obtained using this method demonstrated a higher level of predictive accuracy. Moreover, the predictive precision of the variable-weight time function combined model surpassed that of corresponding individual time function models. When employing six different variable-weight combination prediction models for point C22, the Weibull-MMF model demonstrated the most favorable fitting performance, featuring a root mean square error (RMSE) of 32.98 mm, a mean absolute error (MAE) of 25.66 mm, a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 7.67%; the correlation coefficient R2 reached 0.99937. These metrics consistently outperformed their respective individual time function models. Additionally, in the validation process of the combined model at point C16, the residuals were notably smaller than those of individual models. This reaffirmed the accuracy and reliability of the proposed variable-weight combined model. Given that the variable-weight combination model was an evolution from individual time function models, its applicability extends to a broader range, offering valuable guidance for the dynamic prediction of surface movement and deformation in mining areas. Subtropical forests have strong carbon sequestration potential; however, the spatiotemporal patterns of their carbon sink are unclear. The BIOME-BGC model is a powerful tool for forest carbon sink estimation while the numerous parameters, as well as the localization, limit their application. This study takes three typical subtropical forests (evergreen broadleaf forest, EBF; evergreen needleleaf forest, ENF; and bamboo forest, BF) in China as examples, assesses the sensitivity of 43 ecophysiological parameters in the BIOME-BGC model both by the Morris method and the extended Fourier amplitude sensitivity test (EFAST), and then evaluates the net ecosystem productivity (NEP) estimation accuracy based on the dataset of the fiveFi long-term carbon flux sites of those three typical forests from 2000 to 2015. The results showed that (1) both sensitivity analysis methods can effectively screen out important parameters affecting NEP simulation while the Morris method is more computationally efficient and the EFAST is better in the quantitative evaluation of sensitivity. (2) The highly sensitive parameters obtained using the two methods are basically the same; however, their importance varies across sites and vegetation types, e.g., the most sensitive parameters are k for the EBF and ENF and Ract25 for the BF, respectively. (3) The optimized parameters successfully improved the NEP simulation accuracy in subtropical forests, with average correlation coefficients increased by 25.19% and normalized root mean square error reduced by 21.74% compared with those simulated by original parameters. Coastal tidal flat wetlands are valuable natural resources that provide diverse habitats and important ecological barriers. The physical environment of the intertidal zone poses many challenges to the monitoring of tidal flat topography, making it difficult to implement traditional measurement methods, and satellite remote sensing combined with tide level information makes it possible to invert coastal tidal flat topography more conveniently over large areas. Current methods based on inundation frequency fail to consider the effect of water level distribution of remote sensing images, and usually use all available remote sensing images. However, the uneven distribution of image tide levels will increase the error of the tidal flat construction. Therefore, in this study, according to the distribution characteristics of the water level in remote sensing images, we adaptively exclude the images with a concentrated water level distribution, so as to make the water level distribution more uniform, and thus reduce the topographic inversion error. The validation results of the inversion accuracy show that the root mean squared error of the tidal flat topographic inversion improved by about 5 cm compared with the previous inundation frequency method, which is suitable for reconstructing the tidal flat topography on a large scale and a long-time scale, and it can be used as a basis for coastal tidal flat protection and restoration decision making. Since industrialization, global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have been rising substantially, playing an increasingly important role in global warming and climate change. As the largest CO2 emitter, China has proposed an ambitious reduction plan of peaking before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. Calculation of CO2 emissions inventories at regional scales (e.g., city and county) has great significance in terms of China's regional carbon policies as well as in achieving the national targets. However, most of the existing emissions data were calculated based on fossil fuel consumptions and were thus limited to the provinces in China, making it challenging to compare and analyze the CO2 emissions of different cities and counties within a province. Machine learning methods provided a promising alternative but were still suffering from the lack of availability of training samples at city or county scales. Accordingly, this study proposed to use the energy consumption per unit GDP (ECpGDP) and GDP to calculate the effective CO2 emissions, which are the CO2 emissions if all consumed energy was generated by standard coal. Random forest models were then trained to establish relationships between the remote sensing night-light data and effective CO2 emissions. A total of eight predictor variables were used, including the night-light data, the urbanization ratio, the population density, the type of sensors and administrative divisions, latitude, longitude, and the area of each city or county. Meanwhile, the mean value of the five-fold cross-validation model was used as the estimated effective CO2 emissions in order to avoid overfitting. The evaluation showed a root mean square error (RMSE) of 10.972 million tons and an overall Pearson's correlation coefficient (R) of 0.952, with satisfactory spatial and temporal consistency. In the past decades, continuous efforts have been made at a national level to reduce Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) emissions in the atmosphere over China. However, public concern and related research mostly deal with tropospheric NO2 columns rather than ground-level NO2 concentrations, but actually ground-level NO2 concentrations are more closely related to anthropogenic emissions, and directly affect human health. This paper presents one method to derive the ground-level NO2 concentrations using the total column of NO2 observed from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and the simulations from the Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) model in China. One year's worth of data from 2014 was processed and the results compared with ground-based NO2 measurements from a network of China's National Environmental Monitoring Centre (CNEMC). The standard deviation between ground-level NO2 concentrations over China, the CMAQ simulated measurements and in-situ measurements by CNEMC for January was 21.79 μg/m3, which was improved to a standard deviation of 18.90 μg/m3 between our method and CNEMC data. Correlation coefficients between the CMAQ simulation and in-situ measurements were 0.75 for January and July, and they were improved to 0.80 and 0.78, respectively. In this paper, based on electrical power consumption (EPC) data extracted from DMSP/OLS night light data, we select three national-level urban agglomerations in China's Yangtze River Economic Belt(YREB), includes Yangtze River Delta urban agglomerations(YRDUA), urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River(UAMRYR), and Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration(CCUA) as the research objects. In addition, the coefficient of variation (CV), kernel density analysis, cold hot spot analysis, trend analysis, standard deviation ellipse and Moran's I Index were used to analyze the Spatio-temporal Dynamic Evolution Characteristics of EPC in the three urban agglomerations of the YREB. In addition, we also use geographically weighted regression (GWR) model and random forest algorithm to analyze the influencing factors of EPC in the three major urban agglomerations in YREB. The results of this study show that from 1992 to 2013, the CV of the EPC in the three urban agglomerations of YREB has been declining at the overall level. At the same time, the highest EPC value is in YRDUA, followed by UAMRYR and CCUA. In addition, with the increase of time, the high-value areas of EPC hot spots are basically distributed in YRDUA. The standard deviation ellipses of the EPC of the three urban agglomerations of YREB clearly show the characteristics of "east-west" spatial distribution. With the increase of time, the correlations and the agglomeration of the EPC in the three urban agglomerations of the YREB were both become more and more obvious. In terms of influencing factor analysis, by using GWR model, we found that the five influencing factors we selected basically have a positive impact on the EPC of the YREB. By using the Random forest algorithm, we found that the three main influencing factors of EPC in the three major urban agglomerations in the YREB are the proportion of secondary industry in GDP, Per capita disposable income of urban residents, and Urbanization rate. Software effort estimation has constituted a significant research theme in recent years. The more important provocation for project managers concerns reaching their targets within the fixed time boundary. Machine learning strategies can lead software management to an entire novel stage. The purpose of this research work is to compare an optimized long short-term memory neural network, based on particle swarm optimization, with six machine learning methods used to predict software development effort: K-nearest neighbours, decision tree, random forest, gradient boosted tree, multilayer perceptron, and long short-term memory. The process of effort estimation uses five datasets: China and Desharnais, for which outputs are expressed in person-hours; and Albrecht, Kemerer, and Cocomo81, for which outputs are measured in person-months. To compare the accuracy of these intelligent methods four metrics were used: mean absolute error, median absolute error, root mean square error, and coefficient of determination. For all five datasets, based on metric values, it was concluded that the proposed optimized long short-term memory intelligent method predicts more accurately the effort required to develop a software product. Global climate change is a serious threat to food and energy security. Crop growth modelling is an important tool for simulating crop food production and assisting in decision making. Planting date is one of the important model parameters. Larger-scale spatial distribution with high accuracy for planting dates is essential for the widespread application of crop growth models. In this study, a planting date prediction method based on environmental similarity was developed in accordance with the third law of geography. Spring maize planting date observations from 124 agricultural meteorological experiment stations in China over the years 1992–2010 were used as the data source. Samples spanning from 1992 to 2009 were allocated as training data, while samples from 2010 constituted the independent validation set. The results indicated that the root mean square error (RMSE) for spring maize planting date based on environmental similarity was 10 days, which is better than that of multiple regression analysis (RMSE = 13 days) in 2010. Additionally, when applied at varying scales, the accuracy of national-scale prediction was better than that of regional-scale prediction in areas with large differences in planting dates. Consequently, the method based on environmental similarity can effectively and accurately estimate planting date parameters at multiple scales and provide reasonable parameter support for large-scale crop growth modelling. A thorough evaluation of the recently released Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) is critical for both end-users and algorithm developers. In this study, six products from three versions of GSMaP version 8, including real time (NOW-R and NOW-C), near real time (NRT-R and NRT-C), and post-real time (MVK-R and MVK-C), are systematically and quantitatively evaluated based on time-by-time observations from 2167 stations in mainland China. Among each version, both products with and without gauge correction are adopted to detect the gauge correction effect. Error quantification is carried out on an hourly timescale. Three common statistical indices (i.e., correlation coefficient (CC), relative bias (RB), and root mean square error (RMSE)) and three event detection capability indices (i.e., probability of detection (POD), false alarm ratio (FAR), and critical success index (CSI)) were adopted to analyze the inversion errors in precipitation amount and precipitation event frequency across the various products. Additionally, in this study, we examine the dependence of GSMaP errors on rainfall intensity and elevation. The following main results can be concluded: (1) MVK-C exhibits the best ability to retrieve rainfall on the hourly timescale, with higher CC values (0.31 in XJ to 0.47 in SC), smaller RMSE values (0.14 mm/h in XJ to 0.99 mm/h in SC), and lower RB values (−4.78% in XJ to 16.03% in NC). (2) Among these three versions, the gauge correction procedure plays a crucial role in reducing errors, especially in the post-real-time version. After being corrected, MVK-C demonstrates an obvious CC value improvement (>0.3 on the hourly timescale) in various sub-regions, increasing the percentage of sites with CC values above 0.5 from 0.03% (MVK-R) to 28.47% (MVK-C). (3) GSMaP products generally exhibit error dependencies on precipitation intensity and elevation, particularly in areas with drastic elevation changes (such as 1200–1500 m and 3000–3300 m), where the accuracy of satellite precipitation estimates is significantly affected. (4) CC values decreased with an increasing rainfall intensity; RB and RMSE values increased with an increasing rainfall intensity. As an exquisite asset of Chinese traditional culture, traditional opera occupies a place of high esteem within the world's cultural and artistic treasury. The impact of emerging cultures has threatened the future of traditional opera culture, necessitating a thorough examination of the historical context of the Grand Canal and traditional opera. There is insufficient research on the spatial evolution of the traditional opera culture along the Grand Canal; thus, this study takes ancient opera stages, a representative cultural relic of traditional opera, as an entry point and employs methods such as kernel density analysis and standard deviation ellipse analysis to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution patterns of the traditional opera culture along the Grand Canal. The results showed that: (i) Nationwide, opera stages in the areas along the Grand Canal exhibit a significant clustering characteristic. (ii) The changes in the number and locations of opera stages in the areas along the Grand Canal are closely related to the rise and fall of the Canal. The opera stages emerged along the Canal, gradually prospered with the development of the Canal, and finally clustered in a band-like cluster along the Grand Canal. (iii) From the Ming Dynasty to the founding of the People's Republic of China, the opera stages in the areas along the Grand Canal spread in the "southeast–northwest" direction, which was consistent with the main direction of the Grand Canal, indicating its driving influence. (iv) On the centennial scale, from the 14th century to the 20th century, the evolution characteristics of the distribution centroid of opera stages in the areas along the Grand Canal were closely related to the key time nodes of Grand Canal construction and basin expansion. This study reveals the relationship between the Grand Canal and the spatial pattern evolution of traditional opera culture, aiming to promote the construction of the Grand Canal cultural belt. Prior to assimilating hyperspectral infrared data on the FengYun (FY) satellite in the numerical weather prediction (NWP) system, it is necessary to identify the quality and bias characteristics of these data, especially as China's first early-morning-orbit satellite data. Using the numerical model CMA-GFS (China Meteorological Administration Global Forecast System) and the observation of FY-3E HIRAS-II (Hyperspectral Infrared Atmospheric Sounder-II), the differences between observed and simulated brightness temperatures (O-Bs) are comprehensively analyzed, with a focus on evaluating the long-wave (LW) temperature sounding channels of HIRAS-II observation in the clear sky. The results show that the O-Bs in the LW channels are between ±1.0 K, except for the C O 2 absorption line peak at 667 c m − 1 . Only a tiny variation in O-Bs, with relative consistency, could be observed during the day, the line of dawn and dusk, and night. The difference in the standard deviations of O-Bs in the three cases is less than 0.1 K. The O-Bs of two typical channels (channels 14 and 47) in the stratosphere have disturbances at individual times, whereas the O-Bs are much more stable in time series in the tropospheric channels. The O-Bs in different channels show the characteristics of changing with the latitude, but the bias and standard deviations of O-Bs during the ascending and descending stages are not much different, except for the bias of channel 47 in low latitude. The optimal ranking of Fields of View (FOVs) in assimilation is derived from a priori analysis of O-Bs. The results demonstrate that FOV4 and FOV5 are the best in a Field of Regard (FOR) compared to all LW channels of HIRAS-II in constructions of their O-Bs and magnitude of O-B standard deviations, and they can be used as the preferred FOVs for assimilation. While the O-Bs in FOV1 and FOV2 are slightly larger, the O-Bs' characteristics also meet the assimilation requirements and can be used as assimilation FOVs in HIRAS-II LW channels after FOV4 and FOV5 lose their efficacy. Collapsibility is a unique engineering geological property of loess. Choosing appropriate parameters to build the prediction model of loess collapsibility is an essential step toward solving the loess collapsibility problem. A case study was performed for the loess in Xinyuan County of the Yili River Basin, China. A large amount of data was collected from preliminary geotechnical tests in this region. Mathematical statistics were applied to analyse the correlations between the loess collapsibility and soil parameters. Multiple linear regression and neural network theories were adopted to build this region's prediction model of loess collapsibility. The results showed that microscopically, the soils in this region were predominantly flocculated structures. The soil particles were flaky and in bracket contact, and the pores were round or irregularly shaped. Regarding the material composition, the soils were primarily composed of quartz and albite, with a low hematite content. In the study area, the correlation coefficients between the collapsibility coefficient of the loess vs. the density, dry density, saturation, porosity ratio, and porosity varied between 0.628 and 0.857, indicating a strong or very strong correlation. In terms of predicting loess collapsibility, the effectiveness of neural networks based on RBF (radial basis function) and multiple linear regression models was contrasted. The latter was discovered to be more appropriate, dependable, and accurate, with an accuracy percentage of 94.42%. Simultaneously, the model's assessment index is 0.014 for the root mean squared error (RMSE), 0.962 for the correlation coefficient (CC), 0.919 for the Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE), and −1.494 percent for the percent bias (PBIAS). It works well for estimating whether local loess may collapse. Therefore, the RBF neural network model built in the present study has adequate precision and meets the engineering requirements. Sustainable agriculture and soil conservation methods are integral to ensuring food safety and mitigating environmental impacts worldwide. However, crop residue/straw serves many vital functions from tillage to harvest, so that quantifying the appropriate amount of Crop Straw Cover (CSC) on the soil surface is crucial for monitoring tillage intensity and crop yield performance. Thus, a novel research study is conducted to develop an innovative approach for accurately estimating and mapping the Wheat Straw Cover (WSC) percentage through two different multispectral satellites (Sentinel-2B MSI and Landsat-8 OLI-TIRS), using remote sensing-based techniques in Changshu County, China. The field measurements were collected from 80 distinct sites and eight images were acquired through both satellites for the analysis process by applying Crop Residue Indices (CRIs). The results indicate that the coefficients of determination (R2) of the Normalized Difference Tillage Index (NDTI) computed by Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8 were 0.80 and 0.70, respectively, and the root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) values were in the range from 6.88 to 12.04% for CRIs for both satellite data. Additionally, the comparative analysis of the developed model revealed that NDTI was R2 = 0.85 and R2 = 0.77, followed by STI, R2 = 0.82 and R2 = 0.80 and NDRI, R2 = 0.69 and R2 = 0.56 for Sentinel-2B and Landsat-8 data, respectively. Hence, the correlation strength of NDTI, STI and NDRI with WSC percentages was markedly superior by using Sentinel-2B spectral data compared to Landsat-8 ones. Moreover, the NDTI of Sentinel-2B data was the most accurate in mapping the WSC percentage in four categories, with an overall accuracy of 86.53% (κ = 0.78), surpassing the other CRI indices. Therefore, these findings suggest that the multispectral imagery of Sentinel-2B bolstered with enhanced temporal and spatial data was superior for precisely estimating and mapping the WSC percentage compared to Landsat-8 data over a large-scale agricultural region. In wind resource assessment research, mixture models are gaining importance due to the complex characteristics of wind data. The precision of parameter estimations for these models is paramount, as it directly affects the reliability of wind energy forecasts. Traditionally, the expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm has served as a primary tool for such estimations. However, challenges are often encountered with this method when handling complex probability distributions. Given these limitations, the objective of this study is to propose a new clustering algorithm, designed to transform mixture distribution models into simpler probability clusters. To validate its efficacy, a numerical experiment was conducted, and its outcomes were compared with those derived from the established EM algorithm. The results demonstrated a significant alignment between the new method and the traditional EM approach, indicating that comparable accuracy can be achieved without the need for solving complex nonlinear equations. Moreover, the new algorithm was utilized to examine the joint probabilistic structure of wind speed and air density in China's coastal regions. Notably, the clustering algorithm demonstrated its robustness, with the root mean square error value being notably minimal and the coefficient of determination exceeding 0.9. In recent times, airborne and terrestrial laser scanning have been utilized to collect point cloud data for forest resource surveys, aiding in the estimation of tree and stand attributes over hectare-scale plots. In this study, an automated approach was devised to estimate the diameter at breast height (DBH) and tree height across the entire sample area, utilizing information acquired from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and airborne laser scanning (ULS). Centered around a meticulously managed artificial forest in Northern China, where Mongolian oak and Chinese Scots pine are the predominant species, both TLS and ULS operations were conducted concurrently on each plot. Subsequent to data collection, a detailed processing of the point cloud data was carried out, introducing an innovative algorithm to facilitate the matching of individual tree point clouds from ULS and TLS sources. To enhance the accuracy of DBH estimation, a weighted regression correction equation based on TLS data was introduced. The estimations obtained for the Chinese Scots pine plots showed a correlation of R2 = 0.789 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 3.2 cm, while for the Mongolian oak plots, an improved correlation of R2 = 0.761 and a RMSE of 3.1 cm was observed between predicted and measured values. This research significantly augments the potential for non-destructive estimations of tree structural parameters on a hectare scale by integrating TLS and ULS technologies. Using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) observation data for developing a high-precision ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC) model is one of the essential subjects in ionospheric physics research and the application of satellite navigation correction. In this study, we integrate the Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) method with the TEC data provided by the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE), and observed by the dense GNSS receivers operated by the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC) to construct a regional ionospheric TEC model over China. The EOF analysis of CODE TEC in China from 1998 to 2010 shows that the first-order EOF component accounts for 90.3813% of the total variation of the ionospheric TEC in China. Meanwhile, the average value of CODE TEC is consistent with the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of the first-order EOF base function, which mainly reflects the latitude and diurnal variations of TEC in China. The first-order coefficient after EOF decomposition shows an obvious 11-year period and semi-annual variations. The maximum amplitude of semi-annual variation mainly appears in March and October, which is closely associated with the variation in geographical longitude, the semi-annual change of the low-latitude electric field, and the ionospheric fountain effect. The second-order coefficient has an evident annual variation, the minimum amplitude mainly occurs in March, August, and September, and the amplitude values in the high solar activity years are more significant than those in the low solar activity years. The third-order coefficient mainly shows the characteristics of annual variation, and the fourth-order coefficient shows the noticeable semi-annual and annual variations. The third and fourth-order coefficients are both modulated by the solar activity index F10.7. The ionospheric TEC model in China, driven by CMONOC real-time GNSS observation data, can better reflect the latitude, local time and seasonal variation characteristics of ionospheric TEC over China. In particular, it can clearly show the spring and autumn asymmetry of ionospheric TEC in the low latitudes. The root mean square error of the absolute error between the model and the actual observation is mainly distributed around 2.45 TECU (1 TECU = 1016 electrons/m2). Satellite observations have provided global and regional soil-moisture estimates in the last four decades. However, the accuracy of these observations largely depends on reducing uncertainties in the retrieval algorithms. In this study, we address two challenges affecting the quality of soil-moisture estimates from a widely used soil-moisture-retrieval model, the land parameter retrieval model (LPRM). We studied two improvement schemes that were aimed at reducing uncertainties in open water signals (the LPRMv6_OWF) and vegetation signals (the LPRMv6_Veg), as well as a scheme to reduce their combined impacts (the LPRMv6_OWFVeg) on LPRM-retrieved soil moisture using the FengYun-3B (FY-3B) satellite observations. To assess the impacts of the improvement schemes, we utilized in situ soil moisture from the Jiangsu and Jiangxi provinces in China. We found that the retrievals (Rs) of the LPRMv6_Veg and the LPRMv6_OWFVeg were mainly in the range of 0.2 to 0.5 in Jiangsu and Jiangxi, with increases of 0.1 compared to those of the LPRMv6. The standard deviation (SD) of the LPRMv6_OWFVeg increased in Jiangsu, while the R of the LPRMv6_OWF increased in Jiangsu by 0.05–0.1 compared to that of the LPRMv6, but the SD tended to become worse. In Jiangxi, there was an increase of 0.1 in R. The results show that each of these algorithms improved the accuracy of soil-moisture inversion to some extent, compared to the original algorithm, with the LPRMv6_OWFVeg showing the greatest improvement, followed by the LPRMv6_Veg. The accuracy of both the LPRMv6_OWF and the LPRMv6_OWFVeg decreased to some extent when the open-water fraction (OWF) was greater than 0.2. Full areal extent analyses based on triple collocation showed significant improvements in correlations and minimized errors across different vegetation scenarios over the entire region of China in both the LPRMv6_OWF and the LPRMv6_Veg. However, reduced qualities were found in arid regions in northern China because of the nonlinear relationships between land-surface temperature, vegetation, and soil moisture in the LPRM. Canopy cover is an important vegetation attribute used for many environmental applications such as defining management objectives, thinning and ecological modeling. However, the estimation of canopy cover from high spatial resolution imagery is still a difficult task due to limited spectral information and the heterogeneous pixel values of the same canopy. In this paper, we compared the capacity of two high spatial resolution sensors (SPOT6 and GF2) using three ensemble learning models (Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost), Gradient Boosting (GDBoost), and random forest (RF)), to estimate canopy cover (CC) in a Chinese northern subtropics forest. Canopy cover across 97 plots was measured across 41 needle forest plots, 24 broadleaf forest plots, and 32 mixed forest plots. Results showed that (1) the textural features performed more importantly than spectral variables according to the number of variables in the top ten predictors in estimating canopy cover (CC) in both SPOT6 and GF2. Moreover, the vegetation indices in spectral variables had a lower relative importance value than the band reflectance variables. (2) GF2 imagery outperformed SPOT6 imagery in estimating CC when using the ensemble learning model in our data. On average across the models, the R2 was almost 0.08 higher for GF2 over SPOT6. Likewise, the average RMSE and average MAE were 0.002 and 0.01 lower in GF2 than in SPOT6. (3) The ensemble learning model showed good results in estimating CC, yet the different models performed a little differently in the results. The terrestrial water storage anomaly (TWSA) gap between the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and its follow-on mission (GRACE-FO) is now a significant issue for scientific research in high-resolution time-variable gravity fields. This paper proposes the use of singular spectrum analysis (SSA) to predict the TWSA derived from GRACE. We designed a case study in six regions in China (North China Plain (NCP), Southwest China (SWC), Three-River Headwaters Region (TRHR), Tianshan Mountains Region (TSMR), Heihe River Basin (HRB), and Lishui and Wenzhou area (LSWZ)) using GRACE RL06 data from January 2003 to August 2016 for inversion, which were compared with Center for Space Research (CSR), Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam-German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)'s Mascon (Mass Concentration) RL05, and JPL's Mascon RL06. We evaluated the accuracy of SSA prediction on different temporal scales based on the correlation coefficient (R), Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), and root mean square error (RMSE), which were compared with that of an auto-regressive and moving average (ARMA) model. The TWSA from September 2016 to May 2019 were predicted using SSA, which was verified using Mascon RL06, the Global Land Data Assimilation System model, and GRACE-FO results. The results show that: (1) TWSA derived from GRACE agreed well with Mascon in most regions, with the highest consistency with Mascon RL06 and (2) prediction accuracy of GRACE in TRHR and SWC was higher. SSA reconstruction improved R, NSE, and RMSE compared with those of ARMA. The R values for predicting TWS in the six regions using the SSA method were 0.34–0.98, which was better than those for ARMA (0.26–0.97), and the RMSE values were 0.03–5.55 cm, which were better than the 2.29–5.11 cm RMSE for ARMA as a whole. (3) The SSA method produced better predictions for obvious periodic and trending characteristics in the TWSA in most regions, whereas the detailed signal could not be effectively predicted. (4) The predicted TWSA from September 2016 to May 2019 were basically consistent with Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) results, and the predicted TWSA during June 2018 to May 2019 agreed well with GRACE-FO results. Deformation prediction for a salt solution mining area is essential to mining environmental protection. The combination of Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) technique with Probability Integral Method (PIM) has proven to be powerful in predicting mining-induced subsidence. However, traditional mathematical empirical models (such as linear model or linear model combined with periodical function) are mostly used in InSAR approaches, ignoring the underground mining mechanisms, which may limit the accuracy of the retrieved deformations. Inaccurate InSAR deformations will transmit an unavoidable error to the estimated PIM parameters and the forward predicted subsidence, which may induce more significant errors. Besides, theoretical contradictory and non-consistency between InSAR deformation model and future prediction model is another limitation. This paper introduces the Coordinate-Time (CT) function into InSAR deformation modeling. A novel time-series InSAR model (namely, CT-PIM) is proposed as a substitute for traditional InSAR mathematical empirical models and directly applied for future dynamic prediction. The unknown CT-PIM parameters can be estimated directly via InSAR phase observations, which can avoid the error propagation from the InSAR-generated deformations. The new approach has been tested by both simulated and real data experiments over a salt mine in China. The root mean square error (RMSE) is determined as ±10.9 mm, with an improvement of 37.2% compared to traditional static PIM prediction method. The new approach provides a more robust tool for the forecasting of mining-induced hazards in salt solution mining areas, as well as a reference for ensuring the environment protection and safety management. Riverine dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), when elevated by human activities (e.g., land-use change), can accelerate the nitrogen cycle and downstream dispersal. However, estimating DIN export coefficients for individual land-use types can be complex due to mosaic land-use patterns and interactions between fertilizers and hydrological processes. We propose a framework that integrates an empirical model, a moving-window method, and an elasticity method to quantify seasonal DIN export coefficients for each land use in the Shixi Creek catchment, southeast China. Our model showed good agreement with field observations according to root mean square error and a normalized objective function. The export coefficients of farmland and forest were the highest (9.16 mg L−1) and lowest (2.91 mg L−1) ones, resulting in annual DIN exports, respectively, for farmland and forests of 1951 kg km−2 yr−1 and 619 kg km−2 yr−1, respectively. Urbanization was a dominant factor influencing DIN export; the export coefficient of built-up areas showed the highest elasticity and highest uncertainty, with abrupt fluctuations from dry to wet years. Our framework revealed the complex role of built-up areas in nitrogen export. Wheat is an important food crop in China. The quality of wheat affects the development of the agricultural economy. However, the high-quality wheat produced in China cannot meet the demand, so it would be an important direction for research to develop high-quality wheat. Grain protein content (GPC) is an important criterion for the quality of winter wheat and its content directly affects the quality of wheat. Studying the spatial heterogeneity of wheat grain proteins is beneficial to the prediction of wheat quality, and it plays a guiding role in the identification, grading, and processing of wheat quality. Due to the complexity and variability of wheat quality, conventional evaluation methods have shortcomings such as low accuracy and poor applicability. To better predict the GPC, geographically weighted regression (GWR) models, multiple linear regression, random forest (RF), BP neural networks, support vector machine, and long-and-short-term memory algorithms were used to analyze the meteorological data and soil data of Jiangsu Province from March to May in 2019–2022. It was found that the winter wheat GPC rises by 0.17% with every 0.1° increase in north latitude at the county level in Jiangsu. Comparison of the prediction accuracy of the coefficient of determination, mean deviation error, root mean square error, and mean absolute error by analyzing multiple algorithms showed that the GWR model was the most accurate, followed by the RF model. The regression coefficient of precipitation in April showed the smallest range of variation among all factors, indicating that precipitation in April had a more stable effect on GPC in the study area than the other meteorological factors. Therefore, consideration of spatial information might be beneficial in predicting county-level winter wheat GPC. GWR models based on meteorological and soil factors enrich the studies regarding the prediction of wheat GPC based on environmental data. China's first dynamic environment satellite constellation includes the HY-2B, HY-2C, and HY-2D satellites. In this study, the along track SLA, SWH, and SSWS of this satellite constellation were evaluated. SLA parameters are evaluated using self-crossing and dual-crossing methods. The SSWS and SWH data were evaluated by comparing with NDBC buoy and other available satellites' data. The evaluation revealed that the standard deviation of the SLA from the HY-2B/C/D satellites' single mission crossovers was 3.29 cm, 3.51 cm, and 3.72 cm, respectively. In addition, at the dual-crossovers of the Jason-3 satellite and the HY-2B satellite, the HY-2B satellite, and the HY-2C/D satellites, the standard deviation was determined to be 3.40 cm, 3.48 cm, and 4.25 cm, respectively. The accuracy of the SWH products of the HY-2B/C/D satellite radar altimeters was observed to be 0.23 m, 0.25 m, and 0.26 m, respectively. The accuracy of the SSWS data of the HY-2B/C/D satellite radar altimeters was observed to be 1.48 m/s, 1.59 m/s, and 1.35 m/s, respectively. In addition, this study also analyzed and compared the observation efficiency of the dynamic environment satellite constellation with the following six satellites: Sentinel-3(A, B), Jason-3, Sentinel-6A, Saral, and Cryosat-2. Observation efficiency refers to selection of any point on the globe to find a minimum radius of at least one observation point within a circle in a 14-day period. Coal-fired power plants, as major anthropogenic CO2 emission sources, constitute one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. Accurately calculating the dispersion process of CO2 emissions from these point sources is crucial, as it will aid in quantifying CO2 emissions using remote sensing measurements. Employing the Lagrangian Particle Dispersion Theory Model (LPDTM), our study involves modeling CO2 diffusion from point sources. Firstly, we incorporated high-resolution DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and artificial building elements obtained through the Adaptive Deep Learning Location Matching Method, which is involved in CO2 simulation. The accuracy of the results was verified using meteorological stations and aircraft measurements. Additionally, we quantitatively analyzed the influence of terrain and artificial building characteristics on high spatial resolution atmospheric CO2 diffusion simulations, revealing the significance of surface characteristics in dispersion modeling. To validate the accuracy of the LPDTM in high-resolution CO2 diffusion simulation, a comparative experiment was conducted at a power plant in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The simulated result was compared with observation from aerial flights, yielding the R2 (Correlation Coefficient) of 0.76, the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of 0.267 ppm, and the MAE (Mean Absolute Error) of 0.2315 ppm for the comparison of 73 pixels where the plume intersected with flight trajectories. The findings demonstrate a high level of consistency between the modeled CO2 point source plume morphology and concentration quantification and the actual observed outcomes. This study carried out a quantitative assessment of the influence of surface features on high-resolution atmospheric CO2 point source diffusion simulations, resulting in an enhanced accuracy of the simulated CO2 concentration field. Currently, satellite-based soil moisture (SM) products and land surface model assimilation techniques are widely utilized. However, the presence of systematic errors in the observation process, algorithmic discrepancies between products, and variations in spatial and temporal scales result in diverse accuracy characteristics and applicability. This study evaluates three prominent SM products in China, namely, the Essential Climate Variable Soil Moisture (ECV), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts' Fifth-Generation Land Surface Reanalysis Data (ERA5-Land), and the Global Land Surface Data Assimilation System (GLDAS). The evaluation was conducted using extended triple collocation (ETC) analysis and in situ validation methods at a monthly scale from 2000 to 2020. The ETC analysis results show that among the three products, GLDAS exhibits the highest correlation coefficient (CC) and the lowest standard deviation of error (ESD), indicating its superior performance in China. ECV and ERA5-Land follow, with slightly lower performance. In the in situ validation results, ERA5-Land displays the highest correlation, capturing the temporal trend of the ground SM well. Comparatively, in terms of overall accuracy, ECV performs the best, with a slightly smaller mean error (ME) and root mean square error (RMSE) than GLDAS, and ERA5-Land has the lowest accuracy. The discrepancy between the in situ validation results and ETC analysis can be attributed to the limited number of sites and their representativeness errors. Notably, ERA5-Land exhibits a highly consistent trend of interannual fluctuations between ESD and precipitation. Furthermore, a strong association is observed between the ME and RMSE of ECV and GLDAS and precipitation. These findings serve as valuable references for future SM studies in China. Surface fine particulate matter (PM) with a diameter of less than 2.5 microns (PM2.5) negatively impacts human health and the economy. However, due to data and model limitations, obtaining high-quality, high-spatial-resolution surface PM2.5 concentration data is a challenging task, and it is difficult to accurately assess the temporal and spatial changes in PM2.5 levels at a small regional scale. Here, we combined multi-angle implementation of atmospheric correction (MAIAC) aerosol products, ERA5 reanalysis data, etc., to construct an STW-LightGBM model that considers the spatiotemporal characteristics of air pollution and estimate the PM2.5 concentration of China's surface at 1 km resolution from 2015 to 2020. Our model performed well, and the fitting accuracy of the 10-fold cross-validation between years was 0.877–0.917. The fitting accuracy of the model was >0.85 at different time scales (month, season, and year). The average slope of the regression prediction was 0.9 annually. The results showed that PM2.5 pollution improved from 2015 to 2020. The average PM2.5 concentration decreased by 4.55 μg/m3, and the maximum decrease reached 90.51 μg/m3. The areas with high PM2.5 concentrations were predominantly in the North China Plain, Sichuan Basin, and Xinjiang in the west, and the levels in areas with elevated PM2.5 levels were consistent across most study years. The standard deviation ellipse for PM2.5 in China showed a 'northeast–southwest' spatial distribution. From an interannual perspective, the average values of the four seasonal stations in the country showed a downward trend from 2015 to 2020, with the most obvious decline in winter, from 70.67 μg/m3 in 2015 to 46.75 μg/m3 in 2020. Compared to earlier inversion studies, this work provides a more stable and accurate method for obtaining high-resolution PM2.5 data, which is necessary for local air governance and environmental ecological construction at a fine scale. Establishing the National Comprehensive Disaster-Reduction Demonstration Community (NCDDC) is crucial for enhancing comprehensive disaster risk reduction at the grassroots level in China. Studying the distribution characteristics and influencing factors of NCDDCs can guide future NCDDC layout optimization and related policy adjustments. Using the standard deviation ellipse, nearest neighbor index, kernel density, spatial autocorrelation, and Geodetector, we analyzed the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of NCDDCs in China from 2008 to 2021 and detected their influencing factors. The findings are as follows: (1) NCDDCs exhibit an uneven distribution at different scales, including spatial, urban–rural, and county scales. (2) The spatial distribution of NCDDCs mainly follows a northwest–southeast pattern during 2008–2014 and shows a northeast–southwest trend after 2014. (3) The positive spatial correlation and spatial agglomeration of NCDDCs increase annually. (4) NCDDCs show a concentrated and contiguous distribution pattern in 2021, based on "core density zone–ring-core decreasing area–ring-core expansion group–Ɔ-shaped area–belt-shaped area". (5) The main factors affecting the NCDDC distribution are hospital density, road density, GDP density, and population density, with factors' interactions exhibiting bilinear and nonlinear enhancement effects. Soil fertility plays a crucial role in crop growth, so it is important to study the spatial distribution and variation of soil fertility for agricultural management and decision-making. However, traditional methods for assessing soil fertility are time-consuming and economically burdensome. Moreover, it is hard to capture the spatial variation of soil properties across continuous geographic space using the conventional methods. As key techniques of digital soil mapping (DSM), spatial interpolation techniques have been widely applied in soil surveys and analysis in recent years, since they can predict soil properties at unknown points in continuous space based on limited sample points. However, further research is needed on spatial interpolation models for DSM in regions with variable climates and complex terrains, which are characterized by strong spatial variation in both environmental variables and soil fertility. In this study, taking a typical hilly area in a subtropical monsoon climate, i.e., Gaozhou, Guangdong Province, China, as an example, the performances of four popular spatial interpolation models (Random Forest (RF), Ordinary Kriging, Inverse Distance Weighting, and Radial Basis Function) for digital soil mapping on available phosphorus (AP) are compared. Based on RF, the spatial variation and its driving factors of the AP of Gaozhou are then analyzed. Furthermore, by selecting three typical truncation lines from different directions, the correlations between environmental variables and AP in different spatial positions are demonstrated. The root mean square error (RMSE) results of the above four models are 32.01, 32.08, 32.74, and 33.08, respectively, which indicate that the RF has a higher interpolation accuracy. Based on the mapping results of RF, the minimum, maximum, and mean values of AP in the study area are 38.90, 95.24, and 64.96 mg/kg, respectively. The high-value areas of AP are mainly distributed in forested and orchard areas, while the low-value areas are primarily found in urban and cultivated areas in the eastern and western regions. Vegetation and topography are identified as the key factors shaping the spatial variations of AP in the study area. Furthermore, the spatial heterogeneity of the influence strength of altitude and EVI is revealed, providing a new direction for further research on DSM in the future, i.e., spatial interpolation models considering the spatial heterogeneity of the influence of environmental variables. Stand age is a significant factor when investigating forest resource management. How to obtain age data at a sub-compartment level on a large regional scale conveniently and in real time has become an urgent scientific challenge in forestry research. In this study, we established two strategies for stand-age estimation at sub-compartment and pixel levels, specifically object-based and pixel-based approaches. First, the relationship between canopy height and stand age was established based on field measurement data, which was achieved at the Mao'er Mountain Experimental Forest Farm in 2020 and 2021. The stand age was estimated using the relationship between the canopy height, the stand age, and the canopy-height map, which was generated from multi-resource remote sensing data. The results showed that the validation accuracy of the object-based estimation results of the stand age and the canopy height was better than that of the pixel-based estimation results, with a root mean squared error (RMSE) increase of 40.17% and 33.47%, respectively. Then, the estimated stand age was divided into different age classes and compared with the forest inventory data (FID). As a comparison, the object-based estimation results had better consistency with the FID in the region of the broad-leaved forests and the coniferous forests. In addition, the pixel-based estimation results had better accuracy in the mixed forest regions. This study provided a reference for estimating stand age and met the requirements for stand-age data at the pixel and sub-compartment levels for studies involving different forestry applications. The total suspended solid (TSS) concentration (mg/L) is an important parameter of water quality in coastal waters. It is of great significance to monitor the spatiotemporal distribution and variation of TSS as well as its influencing factors. In this study, a quantitative retrieval model of TSS in Jiaozhou Bay (JZB) was established based on Landsat images from 1984 to 2020 (coefficient of determination (R2) = 0.77, root mean square error (RMSE) = 1.82 mg/L). In this paper, first, the long-term spatiotemporal variation of TSSs in JZB is revealed and, next, its influencing factors are further analyzed. The results show that the annual average TSSs in JZB reached their highest level in 1993 and their lowest level in 2016, showing a decreasing trend during the past decades. The TSSs were high in spring and winter and low in summer and autumn. The spatial distribution of the TSSs in JZB was similar at different timepoints, i.e., high in the northwest and gradually decreasing to the southeast. Tidal elevation exerted a significant influence on the daily variation of TSSs, and wind speed had a significant influence on the seasonal variation of TSSs. The Dagu River's discharge only affected the TSSs at the river mouth. Tidal elevation, river discharge, and wind speed were major influence factors for TSSs' variation in JZB. Digital Surface Model (DSM) derived from high resolution satellite imagery is important for various applications. GFDM is China's first civil optical remote sensing satellite with multiple agile imaging modes and sub-meter resolution. Its panchromatic resolution is 0.5 m and 1.68 m for multi-spectral images. Compared with the onboard stereo viewing instruments (0.8 m for forward image, 0.65 m for back image, and 2.6 m for back multi-spectrum images) of GF-7, a mapping satellite of China in the same period, their accuracy is very similar. However, the accuracy of GFDM DSM has not yet been verified or fully characterized, and the detailed difference between the two has not yet been assessed either. This paper evaluates the DSM accuracy generated by GFDM and GF-7 satellite imagery using high-precision reference DSM and the observations of Ground Control Points (GCPs) as the reference data. A method to evaluate the DSM accuracy based on regional DSM errors and GCPs errors is proposed. Through the analysis of DSM subtraction, profile lines, strips detection and residuals coupling differences, the differences of DSM overall accuracy, vertical accuracy, horizontal accuracy and the strips errors between GFDM DSM and GF-7 DSM are evaluated. The results show that the overall accuracy of both is close while the vertical accuracy is slightly different. When regional DSM is used as the benchmark, the GFDM DSM has a slight advantage in elevation accuracy, but there are some regular fluctuation strips with small amplitude. When GCPs are used as the reference, the elevation Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of GFDM DSM is about 0.94 m, and that of GF-7 is 0.67 m. GF-7 DSM is more accurate, but both of the errors are within 1 m. The DSM image residuals of the GF-7 are within 0.5 pixel, while the residuals of GFDM are relatively large, reaching 0.8 pixel. Numerous methods have been used in the spatial prediction of soil salinity. However, the most suitable method is still unknown in arid irrigation regions. In this paper, 78 locations were sampled in salt-affected land caused by irrigation in an arid area in northern China. The geostatistical characteristics of the soil pH, Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR), Total Salt Content (TSC), and Soil Organic Matter (SOM) of the surface (0–20 cm) and subsurface (20–40 cm) layers were analyzed. The abilities of the Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW), Ordinary Kriging (OK), and CoKriging (CK) interpolation methods were compared, and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) was used to justify the results of the methods. The results showed that the spatial distributions of the soil properties obtained using the different interpolation methods were similar. However, the surface layer exhibits more spatial heterogeneity than the subsurface layer. Based on the RSME, the nugget/sill value and range significantly affected which method was the most suitable. Lower nugget/sill values and lower ranges can be fitted using the IDW method, but higher nugget/sill values and higher ranges can be fitted using the OK method. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is one of the most common metrics used to describe vegetation dynamics. Unfortunately, low-quality pixels resulting from contamination (by features including clouds, snow, aerosols, and mixed factors) have impeded NDVI products' widespread application. Researchers have thought of several ways to improve NDVI quality when contamination occurs. However, most of these algorithms are based on the noise-negative deviation principle, which aligns low-value NDVI products to an upper line but ignores cases where absolute surface values are low. Consequently, to fill in these research gaps, in this article, we use the random forest model to produce a set of high-quality NDVI products to represent actual surface characteristics more accurately and naturally. Climate and geographical products are used as model inputs to describe environmental factors. They represent the random forest (RF) model that establishes relationships between MODIS NDVI products and meteorological products in high-quality areas. In addition, auxiliary data and empirical knowledge are employed to meet filling requirements. Notably, the random forest (RF) algorithm exhibits a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.024 and a root mean squared error (RMSE) of 0.034, in addition to a coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.974. Furthermore, the MAE and RMSE of the RF-based method decreased by 0.014 and 0.019, respectively, when compared to those of the STSG (spatial–temporal Savitzky–Golay) plan and by 0.013 and 0.015, respectively, when compared to the LSTM (long short-term memory) method. R2 increased by 0.039 and 0.027, respectively, compared to the STSG and LSTM methods. We introduced a novel series of NDVI products that demonstrated consistent spatial and temporal connectivity. The novel product exhibits enhanced adaptability to intricate environmental conditions and promises the potential for utilization in investigating vegetation dynamics within the Chinese region. Multisource meteorological re-analyses provide the most reliable forcing data for driving hydrological models to simulate streamflow. We aimed to assess different hydrological responses through hydrological modeling in the upper Lancang-Mekong River Basin (LMRB) using two gridded meteorological datasets, Climate Forecast System Re-analysis (CFSR) and the China Meteorological Assimilation Driving Datasets for the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model (CMADS). We selected the Pearson's correlation coefficient (R), percent bias (PBIAS), and root mean square error (RMSE) indices to compare the six meteorological variables of the two datasets. The spatial distributions of the statistical indicators in CFSR and CMADS, namely, the R, PBIAS, and RMSE values, were different. Furthermore, the soil and water assessment tool plus (SWAT+) model was used to perform hydrological modeling based on CFSR and CMADS meteorological re-analyses in the upper LMRB. The different meteorological datasets resulted in significant differences in hydrological responses, reflected by variations in the sensitive parameters and their optimal values. The differences in the calibrated optimal values for the sensitive parameters led to differences in the simulated water balance components between the CFSR- and CMADS-based SWAT+ models.
