A thermoelectric pipe (TEP) is constructed by tubular graphite electrodes, Teflon material, and stainless-steel tube containing polymeric nanofluids as electrolytes in this study. Heat dissipation and power generation (generating capacity) are both fulfilled with temperature difference via the thermal-electrochemistry and redox reaction effects of polymeric nanofluids. The notion of TEP is to recover the dissipative heat from the heat capacity generated by the relevant machine systems. The thermal conductivity and power density empirical formulas of the novel TEP were derived through the intelligent dimensional analysis with thermoelectric experiments and evaluated at temperatures between 25 and 100 °C and vacuum pressures between 400 and 760 torr. The results revealed that the polymeric nanofluids composed of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles with 0.2 wt.% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) of the novel TEP have the best thermoelectric performance among these electrolytes, including TiO2 nanofluid, TiO2 nanofluid with 0.2 wt.% NaOH, deionized water, and seawater. Fusarium head blight (FHB) causes wheat yield loss and mycotoxin (deoxynivalenol, DON) accumulation in wheat kernel. Developing wheat cultivars with overall resistance to both FHB spread within a spike and DON accumulation in kernels is crucial for ensuring food security and food safety. Here, two relatively novel inoculation methods, bilateral floret inoculation (BFI) and basal rachis internode injection (BRII), were simultaneously employed to evaluate disease severity and DON content in kernels in a segregating population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) developed from Ning 7840 (carrying Fhb1) and Clark (without Fhb1). Under both inoculation methods, four contrasting combinations of disease severity and DON content were identified: high severity/high DON (HSHD), high severity/low DON (HSLD), low severity/high DON (LSHD) and low severity/low DON (LSLD). Unexpectedly, the BRII method clearly indicated that disease severity was not necessarily relevant to DON concentration. The effects of Fhb1 on disease severity, and on DON concentrations, agreed very well across the two methods. Several lines carrying Fhb1 showed extremely higher severity and (or) DON content under both inoculation methods. We evaluate the potential of using a process-based ecosystem model (BEPS) for crop biomass mapping at 20 m resolution over the research site in Manitoba, western Canada driven by spatially explicit leaf area index (LAI) retrieved from Sentinel-2 spectral reflectance throughout the entire growing season. We find that overall, the BEPS-simulated crop gross primary production (GPP), net primary production (NPP), and LAI time-series can explain 82%, 83%, and 85%, respectively, of the variation in the above-ground biomass (AGB) for six selected annual crops, while an application of individual crop LAI explains only 50% of the variation in AGB. The linear relationships between the AGB and these three indicators (GPP, NPP and LAI time-series) are rather high for the six crops, while the slopes of the regression models vary for individual crop type, indicating the need for calibration of key photosynthetic parameters and carbon allocation coefficients. This study demonstrates that accumulated GPP and NPP derived from an ecosystem model, driven by Sentinel-2 LAI data and abiotic data, can be effectively used for crop AGB mapping; the temporal information from LAI is also effective in AGB mapping for some crop types. Specification-based testing methods generate test data without the knowledge of the structure of the program. However, the quality of these test data are not well ensured to detect bugs when non-functional changes are introduced to the program. To generate test data effectively, we propose a new method that combines formal specifications with the genetic algorithm (GA). In this method, formal specifications are reformed by GA in order to be used to generate input values that can kill as many mutants of the target program as possible. Two classic examples are presented to demonstrate how the method works. Oral cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. Despite easy access to the oral cavity and significant advances in treatment, the morbidity and mortality rates for oral cancer patients are still very high, mainly due to late-stage diagnosis when treatment is less successful. Oral cancer has also been found to be the most expensive cancer to treat in the United States. Early diagnosis of oral cancer can significantly improve patient survival rate and reduce medical costs. There is an urgent unmet need for an accurate and sensitive molecular-based diagnostic tool for early oral cancer detection. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy has gained increasing attention in cancer research due to its ability to elucidate qualitative and quantitative information of biochemical content and molecular-level structural changes in complex biological systems. The diagnosis of a disease is based on biochemical changes underlying the disease pathology rather than morphological changes of the tissue. It is a versatile method that can work with tissues, cells, or body fluids. In this review article, we aim to summarize the studies of infrared spectroscopy in oral cancer research and detection. It provides early evidence to support the potential application of infrared spectroscopy as a diagnostic tool for oral potentially malignant and malignant lesions. Considering that it is difficult for traditional materials to simultaneously meet the requirements for filling grouting of water-filled karst caves and subsequent shield tunneling, an environmentally friendly and controllable new underwater cementitious filling material (NUC-FM) is developed, with abandoned shield mud as the basic raw material. Through laboratory tests, the mechanical property parameters of NUC-FM are tested, and its micromechanism is analyzed. The research results show that there is excellent synergistic interactions among shield mud, cement, flocculant, fly ash and other raw materials. The NUC-FM grouting filling material with superior performance can be prepared when the water binder ratio is between 0.45 and 0.6 and the water consumption is between 270 and 310 kg/m3. It has the characteristics of non-dispersion underwater and moderate consolidated body strength. The compressive strength of the NUC-FM consolidated body samples under each mix proportion is much higher than 0.5 MPa, which meets the technical strength requirements of a construction site, and the microstructure shows that there is an obvious dense and stable block structure inside. The cost of the NUC-FM prepared with an optimized mix proportion is only 34.57 dollars/m3, which is far lower than the market purchase price of concrete and cement mortar. It can be predicted that the NUC-FM is an ideal filling grouting material for water-filled karst caves in shield tunnels in water-rich karst areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two acid thickeners, ADMC and ADOM, were prepared by aqueous solution polymerization using acrylamide (AM) and methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC) as raw materials, with or without the introduction of octadecyl polyoxyethylene ether methacrylate (OEMA). It was characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, and the fluorescence spectra of pyrene. The double-layer thickening mechanism of ADOM was proved by comparing the thickening and rheological properties of ADMC and ADOM tested by a six-speed rotary viscometer and a HAKKE MARSIV rheometer during the acidification process. The results showed that the synthetic product was the target product; the first stage of the self-thickening ADOM fresh acid solution during high-temperature acidification was mainly affected by Ca2+ concentration, and the second stage of self-thickening was mainly affected by temperature. The residual viscosity of the 0.8 wt% ADOM residual acid solution was 250, 201.5, and 61.3 mPa·s, respectively, after shearing at 90, 120, and 150 °C for 60 min at a shear rate of 170 s−1. The thickening acid ADOM with a hydrophobic association structure has good temperature resistance and shear resistance, which can be used for high-temperature deep-well acid fracturing. In addition, no metal crosslinking agent was introduced in the system to avoid damage to its formation, and ADOM exhibited good resistance to Ca2+, which could provide ideas for the reinjection of the acidizing flowback fluid. Livestock's live body dimensions are a pivotal indicator of economic output. Manual measurement is labor-intensive and time-consuming, often eliciting stress responses in the livestock. With the advancement of computer technology, the techniques for livestock live body dimension measurement have progressed rapidly, yielding significant research achievements. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the recent advancements in livestock live body dimension measurement, emphasizing the crucial role of computer-vision-based sensors. The discussion covers three main aspects: sensing data acquisition, sensing data processing, and sensing data analysis. The common techniques and measurement procedures in, and the current research status of, live body dimension measurement are introduced, along with a comparative analysis of their respective merits and drawbacks. Livestock data acquisition is the initial phase of live body dimension measurement, where sensors are employed as data collection equipment to obtain information conducive to precise measurements. Subsequently, the acquired data undergo processing, leveraging techniques such as 3D vision technology, computer graphics, image processing, and deep learning to calculate the measurements accurately. Lastly, this paper addresses the existing challenges within the domain of livestock live body dimension measurement in the livestock industry, highlighting the potential contributions of computer-vision-based sensors. A heat dissipation model of discrete elliptical cylinders with heat generation on a thermal conduction pedestal cooled by forced convection is established. Constructal design is conducted numerically by taking the distributions of thermal conductivity and heat generating intensity as design variables, the dimensionless entropy generation rate (DEGR) as performance indicator. The optimal designs for discrete elliptical cylinders with heat generating are obtained respectively, i.e., there are optimal distributions of heat generating intensity with its fixed total amount of heat sources, and there are optimal distributions of thermal conductivity with its fixed total amount of heat sources. These optimums for minimum DEGRs are different at different Reynolds numbers of airflow. The heat generating intensity can be decreased one by one appropriately in the fluid flow direction to achieve the best effect. When the Reynolds number of airflow is smaller, the thermal conductivity of heat source can be increased one by one appropriately in the fluid flow direction to achieve the best effect; when the Reynolds number of airflow is larger, the thermal conductivity of each heat source should be equalized to achieve the best effect. We are investigating how to use urban design approaches to conduct the layout and basic design of newly-built high-rise buildings to reduce wind obstruction and create effective urban ventilation. Few studies have addressed this issue. This study analyzes the effects of high-rise building on pedestrian-level wind in downstream street canyons based on wind tunnel test results, and examines the suitability of an urban design specification. The height (H) of high-rise buildings and the airflow passage width (S) between adjacent high-rise buildings are key control factors for this issue; H/D = 3 and S/D = 1.125 are critical parameters and recommended values (D is the height of the downstream street blocks). Bioassay-guided fractionation of the ethanol extract of whole herbs of Achilleaalpina led to the isolation of isochlorogenic acids A and B as transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 (TRPV3) channel antagonists by using a calcium fluorescent assay. The structures were identified by spectroscopic analysis and the inhibitory activities of isochlorogenic acids A and B were confirmed by whole-cell patch clamp recordings of human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells expressing human TRPV3. Molecular docking results revealed that these two compounds reside in the same active pocket of human TRPV3 channel protein with lower binding energy than the agonist 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate (2-APB). High-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) coupled with a liquid-liquid extraction approach was successfully established for the separation of isochlorogenic acids A and B from the whole herbs of A. alpina. Ethyl acetate and n-hexane-ethyl acetate-water (3:3:4 and 1:5:4, v/v/v) were selected as liquid-liquid extraction solvent systems to remove high- and low-polarity impurities in the mixture. Sixty g of ethanol extract was refined by solvent partition to yield 1.7 g of the enriched fraction, of which 480 mg in turn obtained 52.5 mg of isochlorogenic acid B (purity 98.3%) and 37.6 mg isochlorogenic acid A (purity 96.2%) after HSCCC with n-hexane-ethyl acetate-water containing 1% acetic acid (1:4:8, v/v/v). One of the most important ocean water parameters in world ocean observations is temperature. In the application of high-precision ocean sensors, there are often various interferences and random noises. These noises will cause the linearity of the sensor to change, and it is difficult to estimate the statistical characteristics, and the results will deviate from the real temperature. Aiming at the problems in the application, this paper proposes a compound Kalman smoothing filter (CKSF) algorithm based on least square curve fitting. This algorithm first analyzes the system model of the sensor, uses the least square method to fit the theoretical data and eliminate the non-linear factors caused by system itself, then estimates the statistical characteristics of the noise required by modeling, using the wavelet transform method to track the change of noise in real time and to accurately estimate the noise variance. Finally, a compound filtering method including wavelet transform and Kalman smoothing filtering is used as the main denoising algorithm, which is more accurate than a single Kalman filtering result. Hyperglycemia is a strong risk factor for chronic complications of diabetes. Hyperglycemic conditions foster not only the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), but also the consumption of antioxidants, leading to oxidative stress and promoting the occurrence and progression of complications. During our continuous search for antioxidant constituents from the pericarp of Toona sinensis (A. Juss.) Roem, we isolated two previously unreported apotirucallane-type triterpenoids, toonasinensin A (1) and toonasinensin B (2), together with five known apotirucallane-type triterpenoids (3–7) and two known cycloartane-type triterpenoids (8–9) from the pericarp. Compounds 8–9 were obtained from T. sinensis for the first time. Their structures were characterized based on interpretation of spectroscopic data (1D, 2D NMR, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectra, HR-ESI-MS) and comparison to previous reports. Compounds (2, 4, 6, 7, and 9) were able to inhibit proliferation against rat glomerular mesangial cells (GMCs) cultured under high-glucose conditions within a concentration of 80 μM. Compounds (2, 6, and 7) were tested for antioxidant activity attributable to superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), and ROS in vitro, and the results showed that compounds (2, 6, and 7) could significantly increase the levels of SOD and reduce the levels of MDA and ROS. DAPB, a new molecule including danshensu, borneol, and a mother nucleus of ACEI (Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors), is being developed as an antihypertensive candidate compound. A rapid, accurate, and sensitive ultra-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC–MS/MS) method was established and validated for the determination of DAPB in rat plasma. Chromatographic separation was performed on an Agilent SB-C18 column after protein precipitation by acetonitrile with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and deionized water with 0.02% formic acid and 5 mM NH4F (v/v) at a flow rate of 0.2 mL/min. Quantification was performed using electrospray positive ionization mass spectrometry in the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. The method was linear over the range of 2–1000 ng/mL. The intra- and inter-day precision was within 12%, with accuracies less than 7%. Stability was within the acceptable limits under various storage and processing conditions. No apparent matrix effect was detected. The validated method was applied to the pre-clinical pharmacokinetic study of DAPB after oral administration of 30 mg/kg and intravenous administration of 6 mg/kg in rats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The potential of satellite soil moisture (SM) in improving hydrological modeling has been addressed in synthetic experiments, but it is less explored in real data cases. Here, we investigate the added value of Soil Moisture and Passive (SMAP) and Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) SM data to distributed hydrological modeling with the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) in a highly human disturbed catchment (126, 486 km2) featuring a network of SM and streamflow observations. The investigation is based on the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) considering SM errors from satellite data using the triple collocation. The assimilation of SMAP and ASCAT SM improved the surface (0–10 cm) and rootzone (10–30 cm) SM at >70% and > 50% stations of the basin, respectively. However, the assimilation effects on distributed streamflow simulation of the basin are un-significant and not robust. SM assimilation improved the simulated streamflow at two upstream stations, while it deteriorated the streamflow at the remaining stations. This can be largely attributed to the poor vertical soil water coupling of SWAT, suboptimal model parameters, satellite SM data quality, humid climate, and human disturbance to rainfall-runoff processes. This study offers strong evidence of integrating satellite SM into hydrological modeling in improving SM estimation and provides implications for achieving the added value of remotely sensed SM in streamflow improvement. Melatonin is a bioactive, edible ingredient that promotes human health and exists widely in plants, but little is known about its biosynthetic routes and underlying molecular mechanisms in the herbaceous peony. In this contribution, we found that herbaceous peony flowers are rich in melatonin that is found in the greatest quantities in the white series, followed by the ink series, the red series and then the pink series. On this basis, the melatonin content fluctuates during flower development and peaks during the bloom stage. Moreover, it is apparent that sun exposure and blue light induce melatonin production whereas green light restrains it during a 24-h light/dark cycle of melatonin content, as there were ‘dual peaks’ at 2 p.m. and 2 a.m. Additionally, the corresponding expression pattern of the herbaceous peony tryptophan decarboxylase gene (TDC) was positively related with melatonin production. These results suggest that color series, development stage and light play an important role in melatonin accumulation, and that TDC is a rate-limiting gene in melatonin biosynthesis. Four new 5-hydroxyanthranilic acid related compounds, named anthocidins A–D (1–4), two known analogues n-lauryl 5-hydroxyanthranilate (5) and isolauryl 5-hydroxyanthranilate (6), together with benzamide (7), 3-hydroxy-4-methoxycinnamamide (8), and (3S-cis)-hexahydro-3-[(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)methyl]pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine-1,4-dione (9), were isolated from the fermentation broth of the marine-derived actinomycete, Streptomyces sp. HDa1, which was isolated from the gut of a sea urchin, Anthocidaris crassispina, collected from Hainan Island, China. The structures of these secondary metabolites were elucidated on the basis of their 1D and 2D-NMR and mass spectroscopic data, and anthocidin A was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction with Cu Kα radiation. Anthocidins A–D (1–4) feature an acetyl group substitution at the amino group and varying alkyl side chains at the carboxyl group of 5-hydroxyanthranilic acid, and compound 5 was isolated as a natural product for the first time. N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) is a functional metabolite and has been demonstrated to be a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. It is not clear whether Neu5Ac is associated with a higher risk of cerebrovascular disorders, especially moyamoya disease (MMD). We sought to elucidate the association between serum Neu5Ac levels and MMD in a case–control study and to create a clinical risk model. In our study, we included 360 MMD patients and 89 matched healthy controls (HCs). We collected the participants' clinical characteristics, laboratory results, and serum Neu5Ac levels. Increased level of serum Neu5Ac was observed in the MMD patients (p = 0.001). After adjusting for traditional confounders, the risk of MMD (odds ratio [OR]: 1.395; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.141–1.706) increased with each increment in Neu5Ac level (per μmol/L). The area under the curve (AUC) values of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the basic model plus Neu5Ac binary outcomes, Neu5Ac quartiles, and continuous Neu5Ac are 0.869, 0.863, and 0.873, respectively. Furthermore, including Neu5Ac in the model offers a substantial improvement in the risk reclassification and discrimination of MMD and its subtypes. In this study, based on the OneKP database and through comparative genetic analysis, we found that HMT and HDM may originate from Chromista and are highly conserved in green plants, and that during the evolution from algae to land plants, histone methylation modifications gradually became complex and diverse, which is more conducive to the adaptation of plants to complex and variable environments. We also characterized the number of members, genetic similarity, and phylogeny of HMT and HDM families in barley using the barley pangenome and the Tibetan Lasa Goumang genome. The results showed that HMT and HDM were highly conserved in the domestication of barley, but there were some differences in the Lasa Goumang SDG subfamily. Expression analysis showed that HvHMTs and HvHDMs were highly expressed in specific tissues and had complex expression patterns under multiple stress treatments. In summary, the amplification and variation of HMT and HDM facilitate plant adaptation to complex terrestrial environments, while they are highly conserved in barley and play an important role in barley growth and development with abiotic stresses. Over the past decade, immunotherapy has emerged as one of the most promising approaches to cancer treatment. The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors has resulted in impressive and durable clinical responses in the treatment of various cancers. Additionally, immunotherapy utilizing chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-engineered T cells has produced robust responses in blood cancers, and T cell receptor (TCR)-engineered T cells are showing promising results in the treatment of solid cancers. Despite these noteworthy advancements in cancer immunotherapy, numerous challenges remain. Some patient populations are unresponsive to immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy, and CAR T cell therapy has yet to show efficacy against solid cancers. In this review, we first discuss the significant role that T cells play in the body's defense against cancer. We then delve into the mechanisms behind the current challenges facing immunotherapy, starting with T cell exhaustion due to immune checkpoint upregulation and changes in the transcriptional and epigenetic landscapes of dysfunctional T cells. We then discuss cancer-cell-intrinsic characteristics, including molecular alterations in cancer cells and the immunosuppressive nature of the tumor microenvironment (TME), which collectively facilitate tumor cell proliferation, survival, metastasis, and immune evasion. This paper focuses on the cooperative navigation of heterogeneous air-ground vehicle formations in a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) challenged environment and proposes a cooperative navigation method based on motion estimation and a regionally optimal path planning strategy. In air-ground vehicle formations, unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) are equipped with low-precision inertial navigation measurement units and wireless range sensors, which interact with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with high-precision navigation equipment for cooperative measurement information and use the UAVs as aerial benchmarks for cooperative navigation. Firstly, the Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) algorithm is used to predict the next moment's motion position of the UGVs. Then regional real-time path optimization algorithms are introduced to design the motion position of the high-precision UAVs so as to improve the formation's configuration and reduce the geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) of the configuration. Simulation results show that the Dynamic Optimal Configuration Cooperative Navigation (DOC-CN) algorithm can reduce the GDOP of heterogeneous air-ground vehicle formations and effectively improve the overall navigation accuracy of the whole formation. Drowsiness poses a serious challenge to road safety and various in-cabin sensing technologies have been experimented with to monitor driver alertness. Cameras offer a convenient means for contactless sensing, but they may violate user privacy and require complex algorithms to accommodate user (e.g., sunglasses) and environmental (e.g., lighting conditions) constraints. This paper presents a lightweight convolution neural network that measures eye closure based on eye images captured by a wearable glass prototype, which features a hot mirror-based design that allows the camera to be installed on the glass temples. The experimental results showed that the wearable glass prototype, with the neural network in its core, was highly effective in detecting eye blinks. The blink rate derived from the glass output was highly consistent with an industrial gold standard EyeLink eye-tracker. As eye blink characteristics are sensitive measures of driver drowsiness, the glass prototype and the lightweight neural network presented in this paper would provide a computationally efficient yet viable solution for real-world applications. Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) can cause nerve paralysis syndrome in mammals and other vertebrates. BoNTs are the most toxic biotoxins known and are classified as Class A biological warfare agents. BoNTs are mainly divided into seven serotypes A-G and new neurotoxins BoNT/H and BoNT/X, which have similar functions. BoNT proteins are 150 kDa polypeptide consisting of two chains and three domains: the light chain (L, catalytic domain, 50 kDa) and the heavy chain (H, 100 kDa), which can be divided into an N-terminal membrane translocation domain (HN, 50 kDa) and a C-terminal receptor binding domain (Hc, 50 kDa). In current study, we explored the immunoprotective efficacy of each functional molecule of BoNT/F and the biological characteristics of the light chain-heavy N-terminal domain (FL-HN). The two structure forms of FL-HN (i.e., FL-HN-SC: single chain FL-HN and FL-HN-DC: di-chain FL-HN) were developed and identified. FL-HN-SC could cleave the vesicle associated membrane protein 2 (VAMP2) substrate protein in vitro as FL-HN-DC or FL. While only FL-HN-DC had neurotoxicity and could enter neuro-2a cells to cleave VAMP2. Our results showed that the FL-HN-SC had a better immune protection effect than the Hc of BoNT/F (FHc), which indicated that L-HN-SC, as an antigen, provided the strongest protective effects against BoNT/F among all the tested functional molecules. Further in-depth research on the different molecular forms of FL-HN suggested that there were some important antibody epitopes at the L-HN junction of BoNT/F. Thus, FL-HN-SC could be used as a subunit vaccine to replace the FHc subunit vaccine and/or toxoid vaccine, and to develop antibody immune molecules targeting L and HN domains rather than the FHc domain. FL-HN-DC could be used as a new functional molecule to evaluate and explore the structure and activity of toxin molecules. Carbon and water fluxes in ecosystems are tightly coupled by gas diffusion through stomata. However, carbon–water (C–W) relationships vary largely across time scales, vegetation types, and regions. Subtropical forests in China play an important role in the global carbon and water cycles, yet studies of C–W relationships in this region remain limited. Here, we investigated summer-time C–W relationships in this region at two subtropical sites: the evergreen broadleaved forest at Dinghushan (23.17° N, 112.53° E, 300 m) and the evergreen coniferous forest at Qianyanzhou (26.74° N, 115.06° W, 106 m), using the flux tower data from the FLUXNET2015. The C–W relationship was examined using two measures. The first was daily water use efficiency (WUE), which is the ratio of daily gross primary productivity (GPP) to evapotranspiration (ET). The second was the correlation coefficient (r) of hourly GPP and ET. Our analysis showed that the daily WUE in the two forests ranged over 4–14 mg CO2 per g H2O, higher in the coniferous forest than in the broadleaved forest. The mean values of r for hourly C–W coupling were similar at the two forests, being 0.5–0.6, which suggests asynchronous diurnal variations in GPP and ET. Both daily WUE and r were modulated by meteorological conditions. In general, high radiation, air temperature, and humidity can reduce WUE at both sites. For the broadleaved forest, the most influential factor on WUE was VPD, followed by radiation, while in the coniferous forest, VPD, air temperature, and radiation were almost equally important. For hourly C–W coupling, VPD plays a significant role. The drier the air is, the weaker the coupling in the two forests. Accumulated evidence shows that elevated urotensin II (UII) levels are associated with cardiovascular diseases. However, the role of UII in the initiation, progression, and regression of atherosclerosis remains to be verified. Different stages of atherosclerosis were induced in rabbits by a 0.3% high cholesterol diet (HCD) feeding, and either UII (5.4 μg/kg/h) or saline was chronically infused via osmotic mini-pumps. UII promoted atherosclerotic fatty streak formation in ovariectomized female rabbits (34% increase in gross lesion and 93% increase in microscopic lesion), and in male rabbits (39% increase in gross lesion). UII infusion significantly increased the plaque size of the carotid and subclavian arteries (69% increase over the control). In addition, UII infusion significantly enhanced the development of coronary lesions by increasing plaque size and lumen stenosis. Histopathological analysis revealed that aortic lesions in the UII group were characterized by increasing lesional macrophages, lipid deposition, and intra-plaque neovessel formation. UII infusion also significantly delayed the regression of atherosclerosis in rabbits by increasing the intra-plaque macrophage ratio. Furthermore, UII treatment led to a significant increase in NOX2 and HIF-1α/VEGF-A expression accompanied by increased reactive oxygen species levels in cultured macrophages. Tubule formation assays showed that UII exerted a pro-angiogenic effect in cultured endothelial cell lines and this effect was partly inhibited by urantide, a UII receptor antagonist. These findings suggest that UII can accelerate aortic and coronary plaque formation and enhance aortic plaque vulnerability, but delay the regression of atherosclerosis. Radiation is widespread in nature, including ultraviolet radiation from the sun, cosmic radiation and radiation emitted by natural radionuclides. Over the years, the increasing industrialization of human beings has brought about more radiation, such as enhanced UV-B radiation due to ground ozone decay, and the emission and contamination of nuclear waste due to the increasing nuclear power plants and radioactive material industry. With additional radiation reaching plants, both negative effects including damage to cell membranes, reduction of photosynthetic rate and premature aging and benefits such as growth promotion and stress resistance enhancement have been observed. ROS (Reactive oxygen species) are reactive oxidants in plant cells, including hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), superoxide anions (O2•−) and hydroxide anion radicals (·OH), which may stimulate the antioxidant system of plants and act as signaling molecules to regulate downstream reactions. A number of studies have observed the change of ROS in plant cells under radiation, and new technology such as RNA-seq has molecularly revealed the regulation of radiative biological effects by ROS. This review summarized recent progress on the role of ROS in plant response to radiations including UV, ion beam and plasma, and may help to reveal the mechanisms of plant responses to radiation. Quantum key distribution (QKD) allows two remote parties to share information-theoretic secret keys. Many QKD protocols assume the phase of encoding state can be continuous randomized from 0 to 2 π , which, however, may be questionable in the experiment. This is particularly the case in the recently proposed twin-field (TF) QKD, which has received a lot of attention since it can increase the key rate significantly and even beat some theoretical rate-loss limits. As an intuitive solution, one may introduce discrete-phase randomization instead of continuous randomization. However, a security proof for a QKD protocol with discrete-phase randomization in the finite-key region is still missing. Here, we develop a technique based on conjugate measurement and quantum state distinguishment to analyze the security in this case. Our results show that TF-QKD with a reasonable number of discrete random phases, e.g., 8 phases from { 0 , π / 4 , π / 2 , ... , 7 π / 4 } , can achieve satisfactory performance. On the other hand, we find the finite-size effects become more notable than before, which implies that more pulses should be emit in this case. More importantly, as a the first proof for TF-QKD with discrete-phase randomization in the finite-key region, our method is also applicable in other QKD protocols. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electrospinning is a simple, low-cost, and highly efficient technique to generate desirable nano/microfibers from polymer solutions. Silk fibroin (SF), a biopolymer found in Bombyx mori cocoons, has attracted attention for various biomedical applications. In this study, functionalized CNT was incorporated in SF to generate biocomposite fibers by electrospinning. The electrospun (E-spun) fibers were well aligned with morphology mimicking the locally oriented ECM proteins in connective tissues. While as-spun fibers dissolved in water in just two minutes, ethanol vapor post-treatment promoted β-sheet formation leading to improved fiber stability in an aqueous environment (>14 days). The addition of a minute amount of CNT effectively improved the E-spun fiber alignment and mechanical strength while retained high biocompatibility and biodegradability. The fibers' electrical conductivity increased by 13.7 folds and 21.8 folds, respectively, in the presence of 0.1 w% and 0.2 w% CNT in SF fibers. With aligned SF-CNT 0.1 % fibers as a cell culture matrix, we found electrical stimulation effectively activated fibroblasts from patients of pelvic organ prolapse (POP), a connective tissue disorder. The stimulation boosted the fibroblasts' productivity of collagen III (COLIII) and collagen I (COLI) by 74 folds and 58 folds, respectively, and reduced the COLI to COLIII ratio favorable for tissue repair. The developed material and method offer a simple, direct, and effective way to remedy the dysfunctional fibroblasts of patients for personalized cell therapeutic treatment of diseases and health conditions associated with collagen disorder. Satellite altimetry can provide long-term water level time series for water bodies lacking hydrological stations. Few studies have evaluated the performance of HY-2C and Sentinel-6 satellites in inland water bodies, as they have operated for less than 1 and 2 years, respectively. This study evaluated the measured water level accuracy of CryoSat-2, HY-2B, HY-2C, ICESat-2, Jason-3, Sentinel-3A, and Sentinel-6 in the Great Lakes by in-situ data of 12 hydrological stations from 1 January 2021 to 1 April 2022. Jason-3 and Sentinel-6 have the lowest mean root-mean-square-error (RMSE) of measured water level, which is 0.07 m. The measured water level of Sentinel-6 satellite shows a high correlation at all passing stations, and the average value of all correlation coefficients (R) is also the highest among all satellites, reaching 0.94. The mean RMSE of ICESat-2 satellite is slightly lower than Jason-3 and Sentinel-6, which is 0.09 m. The stability of the average deviation (bias) of the ICESat-2 is the best, with the maximum bias only 0.07 m larger than the minimum bias. ICESat-2 satellite has an exceptionally high spatial resolution. It is the only satellite among the seven satellites that has retrieved water levels around twelve stations. HY-2C satellite has the highest temporal resolution, with a temporal resolution of 7.5 days at station 9075014 in Huron Lake and an average of 10 days in the Great Lakes region. The results show that the seven altimetry satellites currently in operation have their own advantages and disadvantages, Jason-3 and Sentinel-6 have the highest accuracy, ICESat-2 has higher accuracy and the highest spatial resolution, and HY-2C has the highest temporal resolution, although it is less accurate. In summary, with full consideration of accuracy and space-time resolution, the ICESat-2 satellite can be used as the benchmark to achieve the unification of multi-source data and establish water level time series. Background and aim. Kynurenine (KYN) and kynurenic acid (KYNA) are key intermediate metabolites associated with inflammation and immune responses in the kynurenine pathway. It remains unknown whether KYN or KYNA is associated with the risk of adult moyamoya disease (MMD). The aim of this study was to prospectively investigate the association between serum KYN or KYNA and the risk of adult MMD. Methods. The study was conducted from July 2020 to December 2021. We measured serum KYN and KYNA levels for 360 adult MMD patients (259 cases of ischemic MMD, 101 cases of hemorrhagic MMD) and 89 age-sex-matched healthy controls. Clinical and laboratory characteristics were collected from the medical record. Results. After multivariate adjustment, decreased serum KYNA (OR, 0.085; 95% CI, 0.035–0.206; p = 0.000) or KYN (OR, 0.430; 95% CI, 0.225–0.820; p = 0.010) levels were associated with increased risk of MMD when upper and lower tertiles were compared. In addition, a higher trend of hemorrhagic MMD was found in MMD patients in KYNA tertile 1 compared with those in tertile 2 to 3 (OR, 0.584; 95% CI, 0.345–0.987; p = 0.044). Addition of serum KYNA (net reclassification improvement: 73.24%, p = 0.000; integrated discrimination improvement: 9.60%, p = 0.000) or KYN (integrated discrimination improvement: 1.70%, p = 0.037) to conventional risk factors significantly improved the risk prediction of MMD. In the exploratory analysis, we observed an interaction between KYN and age (≥40 versus <40 years) or homocysteine levels (≥13.0 versus <13.0 μmol/L) on the risk of MMD. Conclusions. Decreased serum KYNA or KYN levels were associated with an increased risk of adult MMD, suggesting that serum KYNA or KYN may be a valuable predictive biomarker for adult MMD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recent years have witnessed a growing research interest in graphene-reinforced alumina matrix composites (Al2O3-G). In this paper, to better achieve the dispersion of graphene in composites, a ball milling method for adding raw materials step by step, called stepwise feeding ball milling, was proposed. The Al2O3-1.0 wt % graphene composites were prepared by this stepwise feeding ball milling and hot pressing. Then, the effects of sintering temperature and sintering pressure on the microstructure and mechanical properties of composites were studied. Results showed that the bending strength, fracture toughness and Vickers hardness of composites increased firstly and then decreased with increasing sintering temperature. The mechanical properties of composites were all at their maximum with the sintering temperature of 1550 °C. For example, the bending strength of composites reached 754.20 MPa, which was much bigger than 478.03 MPa at 1500 °C and 364.01 MPa at 1600 °C. Microsporidia are a big group of single-celled obligate intracellular organisms infecting most animals and some protozoans. These minimalist eukaryotes lack numerous genes in metabolism and vesicle trafficking. Here, we demonstrated that the spore wall protein NbSWP12 of microsporidium Nosema bombycis belongs to Bin/Amphiphysin/Rvs (BAR) protein family and can specifically bind with phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate [Ptdlns(3)P]. Since Ptdlns(3)P is involved in endosomal vesicle biogenesis and trafficking, we heterologous expressed NbSWP12 in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and proved that NbSWP12 can target the cell membrane and endocytic vesicles. Nbswp12 transformed into Gvp36 (a BAR protein of S. cerevisiae) deletion mutant rescued the defect phenotype of vesicular traffic. This study identified a BAR protein function in vesicle genesis and sorting and provided clues for further understanding of how microsporidia internalize nutrients and metabolites during proliferation. The high quality and efficient production of greenhouse vegetation depend on micrometeorology environmental adjusting such as system warming and illumination supplement. In order to improve the quantity, quality, and efficiency of greenhouse vegetation, it is necessary to figure out the relationship between the crop growth conditions and environmental meteorological factors, which could give constructive suggestions for precise control of the greenhouse environment and reduce the running costs. The parameters from the color information of the plant canopy reflect the internal physiological conditions, thus, the RGB model has been widely used in the color analysis of digital pictures of leaves. We take photographs of Begonia Fimbristipula Hance (BFH) growing in the greenhouse at a fixed time every day and measure the meteorological factors. The results showed that the color scale for the single leaf, single plant, and the populated canopy of the BFH photographs all have skewed cumulative distribution histograms. The color gradation skewness-distribution (CGSD) parameters of the RGB model were increased from 4 to 20 after the skewness analysis, which greatly expanded the canopy leaf color information and could simultaneously describe the depth and distribution characteristics of the canopy color. The 20 CGSD parameters were sensitive to the micrometeorology factors, especially to the radiation and temperature accumulation. The multiple regression models of mean, median, mode, and kurtosis parameters to microclimate factors were established, and the spatial models of skewness parameters were optimized. The models can well explain the response of canopy color to microclimate factors and can be used to monitor the variation of plant canopy color under different micrometeorology. A visible and near-infrared imaging spectrometer (VNIS) loaded by the Chang'e-4 rover is the primary method for detecting the mineral composition of the lunar surface in the landing region. However, different data processing methods yield inconsistent mineral modes in measured lunar soil and rocks. To better constrain the mineral modes of the soil and rocks measured by Chang'e-4 VNIS, a noritic-gabbroic rock with a mineral composition similar to that of the lunar highland rocks is measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the spare flight model of Chang'e-4 VNIS and TerraSpec-4 of ASD. Backscattered electron and energy dispersive spectrometry show that olivine, pyroxene, and plagioclase modal mineral abundances are 12.9, 35.0, and 52.2%, respectively. The estimated results of the spectrum by the Hapke radiative transfer model are 7.5, 39.3, and 53.2% for olivine, pyroxene, and plagioclase, respectively, which is consistent with to those of SEM mapping within error. In contrast, the estimated results of the modified Gaussian model are 29 and 71% for olivine and pyroxene, respectively, indicating the absence of plagioclase. Based on our implemented Hapke model, we decode the data of the two rocks detected by the rover on the 3rd and 26th lunar days of mission operations. The obtained results suggest that both rocks are norite or gabbro with noticeable differences. The first rock, with more olivine and pyroxene, may have been excavated from the Finsen crater. The second rock, with more plagioclase, may have been ejected from the southwestern edge of the Von Kármán crater, indicating the initial lunar crust. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As navigation is a key to task execution of micro unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm, the cooperative navigation (CN) method that integrates relative measurements between UAVs has attracted widespread attention due to its performance advantages. In view of the precision and efficiency of cooperative navigation for low-cost micro UAV swarm, this paper proposes a sigma point belief propagation-based (SPBP) CN method that can integrate self-measurement data and inter-UAV ranging in a distributed manner so as to improve the absolute positioning performance of UAV swarm. The method divides the sigma point filter into two steps: the first is to integrate local measurement data; the second is to approximate the belief of position based on the mean and covariance of the state, and pass message by augmentation, resampling and cooperative measurement update of the state to realize a low-complexity approximation to traditional message passing method. The simulation results and outdoor flight test results show that with similar performance, the proposed CN method has a calculation load more than 20 times less than traditional BP algorithms. In this paper, two design optimisation methods are evaluated using gradient-based optimisation for electric vehicle traction applications. A driving cycle-based approach is used to evaluate specific operational points for the design optimisation procedure. To determine the operational points, an energy centre of gravity (ECG) approach is used. Both optimisation methods are described, namely the point based method and the flux mapping method, with a focus on the flux mapping procedure. Within the flux mapping approach, an inner optimisation loop is defined in order to maintain the stability of gradient calculation for the gradient-based optimisation. An emphasis is placed on the importance of how the optimisation problem is defined, in terms of the objective function and constraints, and how it affects a gradient based optimisation. Based on a design case study conducted in the paper, it is found that the point-based strategy realised motor designs with a slightly lower overall cost (5.66% lower than that of the flux mapping strategy with 8 ECG points), whereas the flux mapping strategy found motor designs with a lower input energy (1.48% lower than that of the point-based strategy with 8 ECG points). This may be attributed to the difference in the definition and interpretation of constraints between these two methods. It is also shown that including more operational points from the driving cycle in the design optimisation leads to designs with reduced total input energy and thus better drive-cycle energy efficiency. This paper further illustrates the significant computational advantages of a gradient-based optimisation over a global optimisation method as it can be completed within a fraction of the time while still finding a global optimum, as long as the problem definition is correctly determined. DNA N4-methylcytosine(4mC) plays an important role in numerous biological functions and is a mechanism of particular epigenetic importance. Therefore, accurate identification of the 4mC sites in DNA sequences is necessary to understand the functional mechanism. Although some effective calculation tools have been proposed to identifying DNA 4mC sites, it is still challenging to improve identification accuracy and generalization ability. Therefore, there is a great need to build a computational tool to accurately identify the position of DNA 4mC sites. Hence, this study proposed a novel predictor XGB4mcPred, a predictor for the identification of 4mC sites trained using an extreme gradient boosting algorithm (XGBoost) and DNA sequence information. Firstly, we used the One-Hot encoding on adjacent and spaced nucleotides, dinucleotides, and trinucleotides of the original 4mC site sequences as feature vectors. Then, the importance values of the feature vectors pre-trained by the XGBoost algorithm were used as a threshold to filter redundant features, resulting in a significant improvement in the identification accuracy of the constructed XGB4mcPred predictor to identify 4mC sites. The analysis shows that there is a clear preference for nucleotide sequences between 4mC sites and non-4mC site sequences in six datasets from multiple species, and the optimized features can better distinguish 4mC sites from non-4mC sites. The experimental results of cross-validation and independent tests from six different species show that our proposed predictor XGB4mcPred significantly outperformed other state-of-the-art predictors and was improved to varying degrees compared with other state-of-the-art predictors. Various pollutants of different sizes are directly (e.g., water-borne diseases) and indirectly (e.g., accumulation via trophic transfer) threatening our water health and safety. To cope with this matter, multifaceted approaches are required for advanced wastewater treatment more efficiently. Wastewater treatment using mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) could provide an excellent alternative since it could play two roles in pollutant removal by covering adsorption and size exclusion of water contaminants simultaneously. This paper provides an overview of the research progresses and trends on the emerging materials used to prepare MMMs for pollutant removal from water in the recent five years. The transition of the research trend was investigated, and the most preferred materials to prepare MMMs were weighed up based on the research trend. Various application examples where each emerging material was used have been introduced along with specific mechanisms underlying how the better performance was realized. Since technologies in image fusion, image splicing, and target recognition have developed rapidly, as the basis of many image applications, the performance of image registration directly affects subsequent work. In this work, for rich features of satellite-borne optical imagery such as panchromatic and multispectral images, the Harris corner algorithm is combined with the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) operator for feature point extraction. Our rough matching strategy uses the K-D (K-Dimensional) tree combined with the BBF (Best Bin First) method, and the similarity measure is the nearest neighbor/the second-nearest neighbor ratio. Finally, a triangle-area representation (TAR) algorithm is utilized to eliminate false matches in order to ensure registration accuracy. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with existing popular algorithms. The experimental results indicate that for visible light and multi-spectral satellite remote sensing images of different sizes and different sources, the proposed algorithm in this work is excellent in accuracy and efficiency. Distantly Supervised relation extraction methods can automatically extract the relation between entity pairs, which are essential for the construction of a knowledge graph. However, the automatically constructed datasets comprise amounts of low-quality sentences and noisy words, and the current Distantly Supervised methods ignore these noisy data, resulting in unacceptable accuracy. To mitigate this problem, we present a novel Distantly Supervised approach SEGRE (Semantic Enhanced Graph attention networks Relation Extraction) for improved relation extraction. Our model first uses word position and entity type information to provide abundant local features and background knowledge. Then it builds the dependency trees to remove noisy words that are irrelevant to relations and employs Graph Attention Networks (GATs) to encode syntactic information, which also captures the important semantic features of relational words in each instance. Furthermore, to make our model more robust against noisy words, the intra-bag attention module is used to weight the bag representation and mitigate noise in the bag. Fluorescence/temperature-sensitive hydrogels, thanks to their properties in fluorescence and temperature sensitivity, have shown a promising outlook in the fields of drug delivery, cell imaging, etc., and thus become the focus of present research. This paper reports the preparation of green-fluorescence/temperature-sensitive hydrogels through one-step radical polymerization with green fluorescence-emissioned carbon dots as fluorescence probes and N-isopropylacrylamide as a monomer. UV-vis spectra, fluorescence spectra, and fluorescence microscope imaging have been used to characterize the prepared hydrogel, and to study their optical and temperature-sensitive properties. It was discovered that the emission of prepared hydrogel is excitation wavelength-dependent, pH responding, and excellent temperature-sensitive, as well as having good biocompatibility. Clostridium botulinum produces botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT), which is the most toxic known protein and the causative agent of human botulism. BoNTs have similar structures and functions, comprising three functional domains: catalytic domain (L), translocation domain (HN), and receptor-binding domain (Hc). In the present study, BoNT/E was selected as a model toxin to further explore the immunological significance of each domain. The EL-HN fragment (L and HN domains of BoNT/E) retained the enzymatic activity without in vivo neurotoxicity. Extensive investigations showed EL-HN functional fragment had the highest protective efficacy and contained some functional neutralizing epitopes. Further experiments demonstrated the EL-HN provided a superior protective effect compared with the EHc or EHc and EL-HN combination. Image registration is an important basis of image processing, which is of great significance in image mosaicking, target recognition, and change detection. Aiming at the automatic registration problem of multi-angle optical images for ground scenes, a registration method combining point features and line features to register images is proposed. Firstly, the LSD (Line Segment Detector) algorithm is used to extract line features of images. The obtained line segments whose length are less than a given threshold are eliminated by a visual significant algorithm. Then, an affine transform model obtained by estimating a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) is applied to the image to be matched. Lastly, Harris point features are utilized in fine matching to overcome shortages of methods based on line features. In experiments, the proposed algorithm is compared with popular feature-based registration algorithms. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm in this work has obvious advantages in terms of registration accuracy and reliability for optical images acquired at different angles. Simple Summary: Research on fig wasps has made a considerable contribution to the understanding of insect–plant interactions. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying fig wasp host specificity are poorly understood. This study reports on a relatively large-scale transcriptomic dataset of 25 fig wasp species. We outline potential genetic mechanisms underlying the specific host adaptation by investigating changes in a gene family, in evolutionary rates, and in genes under positive selection. The transcriptome datasets reported here (1) provide new insights into the evolutionary diversification and host specificity of fig wasps and (2) contribute to a growing dataset on fig wasp genomics. Figs and fig wasps are highly species-specific and comprise a model system for studying co-evolution and co-speciation. The evolutionary relationships and molecular adaptations of fig wasps to their fig hosts are poorly understood, and this is in part due to limited sequence data. Here, we present large-scale transcriptomic datasets of 25 fig wasp species with the aim of uncovering the genetic basis for host specificity. Our phylogenetic results support the monophyly of all genera associated with dioecious figs, and two genera associated with monoecious figs, Eupristina and Platyscapa, were revealed to be close relatives. We identified gene loss and gain, potentially rapidly evolving genes, and genes under positive selection. Potentially functional changes were documented and we hypothesize as to how these may determine host specificity. Membrane separation is a compelling technology for hydrogen separation. Among the different types of membranes used to date, the mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) are one of the most widely used approaches for enhancing separation performances and surpassing the Robeson upper bound limits for polymeric membranes. In this review, we focus on the recent progress in MMMs for hydrogen separation. The discussion first starts with a background introduction of the current hydrogen generation technologies, followed by a comparison between the membrane technology and other hydrogen purification technologies. Thereafter, state-of-the-art MMMs, comprising emerging filler materials that include zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, and graphene-based materials, are highlighted. The binary filler strategy, which uses two filler materials to create synergistic enhancements in MMMs, is also described. A critical evaluation on the performances of the MMMs is then considered in context, before we conclude with our perspectives on how MMMs for hydrogen separation can advance moving forward. Cerium-modified Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts were prepared by an aqueous ion-exchange method, and Ce and Cu were incorporated through different ion-exchange sequences. The results of NH3-SCR activity evaluations displayed that Cu1(CeCu)2 catalyst presented excellent catalytic activity, and over 90% NOx conversion was obtained across the temperature range of 200–500 °C. The characterization results showed that the ion-exchange sequence of Cu and Ce species influenced the crystallinity of the zeolites and the coordination of Al. A small amount of Ce could participate in the reduction process and change the location and coordination environment of copper ions. Furthermore, Ce-modified Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts possessed more acidic sites due to their containing replacement of Ce and movement of Cu in the preparation process. The cooperation of strong redox abilities and NH3 storage capacity led to the increase of active adsorbed species adsorption and resulted in better activity of Cu1(CeCu)2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In-situ measurements of the spectral information on the lunar surface are of significance to study the geological evolution of the Moon. China's Chang'E-4 (CE-4) Yutu-2 rover has conducted several in-situ spectral explorations on the Moon. The visible and near-infrared imaging spectrometer (VNIS) onboard the rover has acquired a series of in-situ spectra of the regolith at the landing site. In general, the mineralogical research of the lunar surface relies on the accuracy of the in-situ data. However, the spectral measurements of the Yutu-2 rover may be affected by shadows and stray illumination. In this study, we analyzed 106 CE-4 VNIS spectra acquired in the first 24 lunar days of the mission and noted that six of these spectra were affected by the shadows of the rover. Therefore, a method was established to correct the effects of the rover shadow on the spectral measurements. After shadow correction, the FeO content in the affected area is corrected to 14.46 wt.%, which was similar to the result calculated in the normal regolith. Furthermore, according to the visible images, certain areas of the explored sites were noted to be unusually bright. Considering the reflectance, geometric information, and shining patterns of the multi-layer insulation (MLI), we examined the influence of the specular reflection of the MLI on the bright spot regionsd, and found that the five sets of data were likely not affected by the specular reflection of the MLI. The results indicated that the complex illumination considerably influences the in situ spectral data. This study can provide a basis to analyze the VNIS scientific data and help enhance the accuracy of interpretation of the composition at CE-4 landing sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Delayed anastomotic occlusion occurred in a considerable proportion of hemorrhagic moyamoya disease (MMD) patients undergoing direct revascularization. This study aimed to investigate the predictors and outcomes of delayed anastomotic occlusion in adult hemorrhagic MMD. The authors retrospectively reviewed 87 adult hemorrhagic MMD patients. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. After an average of 9.1 ± 6.9 months of angiographic follow-up, the long-term graft patency rates were 79.8%. The occluded group had significantly worse angiogenesis than the non-occluded group (p < 0.001). However, the improvement of dilated anterior choroidal artery–posterior communicating artery was similar (p = 0.090). After an average of 4.0 ± 2.5 years of clinical follow-up, the neurological statues and postoperative annualized rupture risk were similar between the occluded and non-occluded groups (p = 0.750; p = 0.679; respectively). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, collateral circulation Grade III (OR, 4.772; 95% CI, 1.184–19.230; p = 0.028) and preoperative computed tomography perfusion (CTP) Grade I–II (OR, 4.129; 95% CI, 1.294–13.175; p = 0.017) were independent predictors of delayed anastomotic occlusion. Delayed anastomotic occlusion in adult hemorrhagic MMD might be a benign phenomenon. Good collateral circulation (Grade III) and compensable preoperative intracranial perfusion (CTP Grade I–II) are independent predictors for this phenomenon. Moreover, the delayed anastomotic occlusion has no significant correlations with the long-term angiographic and neurological outcomes, except neoangiogenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
