This paper presents a new design for a multimode fusion communication system, aimed at tackling the complexities of modern aeronautical communication. The system integrates multiple communication technologies, such as ad hoc networking, 5G, BeiDou satellite, RTK positioning, and ADS-B broadcasting. This integration effectively solves the problem of increasing the size and weight of aviation communication equipment while also improving the efficiency and security of data communication. The study demonstrates that the implementation of this fusion communication system can lead to the development of more efficient and intelligent avionics equipment in the future, thereby offering robust technical support for flight safety. China has the world's largest and fastest-growing elderly population, primarily living in outdated urban residential communities. These aging populations face challenges in outdoor activities (OA) and quality of life (QoL) due to deteriorating neighborhood-built environments (NBE). While upgrading these environments is essential for urban renewal, the specific NBE factors affecting OA and QoL for the elderly are not well understood, creating a gap in existing research. This study addresses this gap by investigating how NBE elements influence the OA and QoL of elderly residents in these communities. This study investigates these interactions by conducting a comprehensive literature review, followed by a questionnaire survey, with data analyzed using factor analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The results reveal that supermarkets and subways significantly impact the physical health of older adults. Psychological health is primarily shaped by daily activities, social relationships, and self-care ability, with roads, hospitals, and bus stops further affecting daily activities. Social relationships are largely influenced by social activities, which are impacted by grocery markets, subways, and parks. Additionally, self-care ability is affected by leisure and daily activities, as well as the accessibility of supermarkets, grocery markets, subways, and buses. These findings offer valuable insights for government-led initiatives aimed at implementing age-friendly retrofitting of NBEs, ultimately enhancing the OA and QoL of the elderly population. Aviation-integrated communication equipment is integral to modern aircraft to ensure its performance and safety. The heat dissipation problems of equipment have become increasingly prominent for the high electronic integration and system power consumption. To solve the above problem, the heat dissipation performance of aviation-integrated communication equipment based on graphene films is deeply studied. This paper establishes a three-dimensional model of aviation-integrated communication equipment to simulate the distribution of temperature fields. The influence between aluminum alloy and graphene films on the surface of magnesium alloy on the heat dissipation performance of aviation-integrated communication equipment is studied. The simulation results show that the heat balance time of the equipment using graphene films on the surface of magnesium alloy is reduced from 3600 s to 800 s, representing an approximately 77.78% improvement; the measured equipment exhibited a reduction in its overall thermal equilibrium temperature, decreasing from 68.1 °C to 66.3 °C, representing an improvement of approximately 2.64%. The present study investigated microstructural evolution and changes in tensile properties of an Al-Si piston alloy subjected to thermal exposures at 250 and 350 °C for 150, 300, and 500 h. Microstructural and nanoscale precipitates were characterized using a combination of high-angle annular dark field-scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) images and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The tensile testing was performed. The results demonstrated that the thermal exposure induced granulation of the δ-Al3CuNi particles, alongside precipitation of the θ-Al2Cu phase particles and AlCu clusters within the matrix. Specifically, an increase in the size and number density of the θ-Al2Cu phase particles was observed with exposure time at 250 °C. Conversely, at 350 °C, the θ-Al2Cu particles exhibited a gradual increase in size with prolonged thermal exposure, coupled with a decrease in their number density. AlCu clusters precipitated solely at a thermal exposure temperature of 350 °C, with precipitation intensifying over time. Moreover, a decrease in the alloy's tensile strength and an increase in elongation were noted after thermal exposure. Finally, the present study discussed the precipitation mechanisms of θ-Al2Cu particles and AlCu clusters within the grains, suggesting that the AlCu clusters exerted a more effective strengthening effect compared to the θ-Al2Cu particles. Calmodulin-binding transcription activator (CAMTA) is an important calmodulin-binding protein with a conserved structure in eukaryotes which is widely involved in plant stress response, growth and development, hormone signal transduction, and other biological processes. Although CAMTA genes have been identified and characterized in many plant species, a systematic and comprehensive analysis of CAMTA genes in the Solanaceae genome is performed for the first time in this study. A total of 28 CAMTA genes were identified using bioinformatics tools, and the biochemical/physicochemical properties of these proteins were investigated. CAMTA genes were categorized into three major groups according to phylogenetic analysis. Tissue-expression profiles indicated divergent spatiotemporal expression patterns of SmCAMTAs. Furthermore, transcriptome analysis of SmCAMTA genes showed that exposure to cold induced differential expression of many eggplant CAMTA genes. Yeast two-hybrid and bimolecular fluorescent complementary assays suggested an interaction between SmCAMTA2 and SmERF1, promoting the transcription of the cold key factor SmCBF2, which may be an important mechanism for plant cold resistance. In summary, our results provide essential information for further functional research on Solanaceae family genes, and possibly other plant families, in the determination of the development of plants. Panax notoginseng (P. notoginseng) has excellent medicinal and food dual-use characteristics. However, P. notoginseng with a unique origin label has become the target of fraud because of people confusing or hiding its origin. In this study, an untargeted nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based metabolomics approach was used to discriminate the geographical origins of P. notoginseng from four major producing areas in China. Fifty-two components, including various saccharides, amino acids, saponins, organic acids, and alcohols, were identified and quantified through the NMR spectrum, and the area-specific geographical identification components were further screened. P. notoginseng from Yunnan had strong hypoglycemic and cardiovascular protective effects due to its high acetic acid, dopamine, and serine content, while P. notoginseng from Sichuan was more beneficial for diseases of the nervous system because of its high content of fumarate. P. notoginseng from Guizhou and Tibet had high contents of malic acid, notoginsenoside R1, and amino acids. Simple Summary: The liver function reserve of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is heterogeneous. The preoperative accurate evaluation of liver function has a vital role in the prevention of unfavorable postoperative complications such as post-hepatectomy liver failure. In this study, unsupervised clustering analysis of radiomics features extracted from preoperative gadoxetic-acid-enhanced MRIs was performed for liver function stratification on 276 HCC patients. Two distinct subgroups were identified (i.e., subgroups 1 and 2). Subgroup 2 had impaired liver function as presented by older age, more albumin–bilirubin grades 2 and 3, and a higher indocyanine green retention rate than that of subgroup 1 (all p < 0.05). Compared with subgroup 1, subgroup 2 was associated with a higher risk of postoperative liver failure, postoperative complications, and longer hospital stays (all p < 0.05). Our findings indicate the potential for the use of radiomics features based on preoperative gadoxetic-acid-enhanced MRI for noninvasive liver function assessment in HCC patients. Objective: To identify subgroups of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with different liver function reserves using an unsupervised machine-learning approach on the radiomics features from preoperative gadoxetic-acid-enhanced MRIs and to evaluate their association with the risk of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). Methods: Clinical data from 276 consecutive HCC patients who underwent liver resections between January 2017 and March 2019 were retrospectively collected. Radiomics features were extracted from the non-tumorous liver tissue at the gadoxetic-acid-enhanced hepatobiliary phase MRI. The reproducible and non-redundant features were selected for consensus clustering analysis to detect distinct subgroups. After that, clinical variables were compared between the identified subgroups to evaluate the clustering efficacy. The liver function reserve of the subgroups was compared and the correlations between the subgroups and PHLF, postoperative complications, and length of hospital stay were evaluated. Results: A total of 107 radiomics features were extracted and 37 were selected for unsupervised clustering analysis, which identified two distinct subgroups (138 patients in each subgroup). Compared with subgroup 1, subgroup 2 had significantly more patients with older age, albumin–bilirubin grades 2 and 3, a higher indocyanine green retention rate, and a lower indocyanine green plasma disappearance rate (all p < 0.05). Subgroup 2 was also associated with a higher risk of PHLF, postoperative complications, and longer hospital stays (>18 days) than that of subgroup 1, with an odds ratio of 2.83 (95% CI: 1.58–5.23), 2.41(95% CI: 1.15–5.35), and 2.14 (95% CI: 1.32–3.47), respectively. The odds ratio of our method was similar to the albumin–bilirubin grade for postoperative complications and length of hospital stay (2.41 vs. 2.29 and 2.14 vs. 2.16, respectively), but was inferior for PHLF (2.83 vs. 4.55). Conclusions: Based on the radiomics features of gadoxetic-acid-enhanced MRI, unsupervised clustering analysis identified two distinct subgroups with different liver function reserves and risks of PHLF in HCC patients. X-band dual-polarization phased array radar (XPAR-D) possesses high resolution and plays a significant role in detecting meso- and micro-scale convective systems. However, the precipitation attenuation it endures necessitates an effective correction method. This study selected radar data from XPAR-D at the peak of Maofeng Mountain in Guangzhou during 16–17 May 2020 from three precipitation stages after quality control. Attenuation coefficients were calculated for different precipitation types through scattering simulations of raindrop size distribution (RSD) data. Next, an attenuation correction algorithm (MZH-KDP method) was proposed for the radar reflectivity factor (ZH) according to different raindrop types and compared to the ZH-KDP method currently in use. The results indicate that the attenuation amount of XPAR-D echoes depends on the attenuation path and echo intensity. When the attenuation path is shorter and the echo intensity is weaker, the amount of attenuation and correction is smaller. Difficulties arise when there are noticeable deviations, which are challenging to resolve using attenuation correction methods. Longer attenuation paths and stronger echoes highlight the advantages of the MZH-KDP method, while the ZH-KDP method tends to overcorrect the bias. The MZH-KDP method outperforms the ZH-KDP method for different precipitation types. The superior correction capability of the MZH-KDP method provides a significant advantage in improving the performance of XPAR-D for the detection of extreme weather. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polarimetric radar data are an important tool for quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE), which is essential for monitoring and forecasting precipitation. Previous studies have shown that the drop size distribution (DSD) and polarimetric radar parameters of typhoon-induced precipitation differ significantly from those of other types of rainfall. South China is a region that frequently experiences typhoons and heavy rainfall, which can cause serious disasters. Therefore, it is critical to develop a QPE algorithm that is suitable for typhoon precipitation over South China. In this study, we constructed four simple QPE estimators, R(ZH), R(ZH, ZDR), R(KDP) and R(KDP, ZDR) based on two-dimensional video disdrometer (2DVD) DSD observations of typhoon-induced precipitation over South China in 2017–2018. We analyzed the DSD characteristics and the estimation accuracy of these four QPE estimators in the reflectivity–differential reflectivity (ZH–ZDR) space, as well as the S-band polarimetric radar (S-POL) data of seven typhoon-induced precipitation events that affected South China in 2017–2019. We used these data to quantitatively determine the optimal ranges of the estimators and establish a typhoon precipitation QPE algorithm for typhoon-induced precipitation over South China (2DVD-Typhoon). The evaluation results showed that: (1) compared to R(ZH) and R(KDP), R(ZH, ZDR) and R(KDP, ZDR) had lower performance in estimating typhoon-induced rainfall after incorporating the polarimetric parameter ZDR, as strong crosswind of the typhoon caused some bias in the raindrop-induced ZDR; (2) the 2DVD-Typhoon algorithm utilizes the respective advantages of the individual estimators to generate the best QPE results; (3) the QPE performance of 2DVD-Typhoon and the Colorado State University–Hydrometeor Identification Rainfall Optimization (CSU-HIDRO) is used as a comparison for hourly rainfall, cumulative rainfall and different rainfall intensity. The comparison shows that 2DVD-Typhoon gives a better normalized error (NE), root mean square error (RMSE) and correlation coefficient (CC), indicating its strength in rainfall estimation for typhoons over South China. Electromagnetic metamaterials are artificial subwavelength composites with periodic structures, which can interact strongly with the incident light to achieve effective control of the light field. Metamaterial absorbers can achieve nearly 100% perfect absorption of incident light at a specific frequency, so they are widely used in sensors, optical switches, communication, and other fields. Based on the development history of metamaterials, this paper discusses the research background and significance of metamaterial perfect absorbers. Some perfect absorption mechanisms, such as impedance matching and coherent perfect absorption, are discussed. Histopathologic grade of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an important predictor of early recurrence and poor prognosis after curative treatments. This study aims to develop a radiomics model based on preoperative gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI for predicting HCC histopathologic grade and to validate its predictive performance in an independent external cohort. Clinical and imaging data of 403 consecutive HCC patients were retrospectively collected from two hospitals (265 and 138, respectively). Patients were categorized into poorly differentiated HCC and non-poorly differentiated HCC groups. A total of 851 radiomics features were extracted from the segmented tumor at the hepatobiliary phase images. Three classifiers, logistic regression (LR), support vector machine, and Adaboost were adopted for modeling. The areas under the curve of the three models were 0.70, 0.67, and 0.61, respectively, in the external test cohort. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was the only significant clinicopathological variable associated with HCC grading (odds ratio: 2.75). When combining AFP, the LR+AFP model showed the best performance, with an AUC of 0.71 (95%CI: 0.59–0.82) in the external test cohort. A radiomics model based on gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI was constructed in this study to discriminate HCC with different histopathologic grades. Solidification/stabilization (S/S) is one of the most widely used techniques in the disposal of heavy-metal-contaminated soil, though the long-term effectiveness of S/S technology remains implicit. Temperature is an important factor affecting the leaching behavior of heavy metals and the long-term effectiveness of S/S treatment. This study systematically explored the influence of temperature on the leaching behavior of lead in an S/S monolith through semi-dynamic leaching test at different temperatures. The results showed that an increase in temperature could accelerate the leaching concentration and cumulative leaching amount of lead ions in the S/S monolith. The cumulative leaching amount of lead ions in the S/S monolith after 11 days at 55 °C was about 5.8 times that at 25 °C. The leaching rate of lead ions in the S/S monolith increased with the increase in temperature. The leaching index of lead ions was larger than 9, which met the requirements for "controlled utilization" in the environment. The leaching mechanism of lead ions was diffusion control and did not change in the temperature range of 25–55 °C. These findings indicate that temperature affects the leaching behavior and the long-term effectiveness of S/S treatment, and temperature variation should be considered in the effectiveness evaluation of S/S treatment. On 1 June 2021, a heavy rainstorm hit the coast of South China (148.6 mm in 1 h, 361 mm over 12 h). The storm process was successively affected by two convective systems (CSs). The initial convection of the two CSs occurred at a similar location; however, they subsequently showed different evolution characteristics. Based on multi-source data, including dual-polarimetric radars, wind profiling radars, sounding, and automatic weather stations, we explored the differences in the key characteristics of these two CSs. It was found that the convection was initially triggered at a similar location for both CSs, closely related to the mesoscale boundary and the hilly terrain. After formation, CS1 moved eastward to the regions with lower surface temperature and weaker lower-level convergence but similar humidity, which means the environmental conditions for sustaining the CS became less favorable. As a result, CS1 dissipated rapidly and only lasted for about 90 min, resulting in 5% of the total precipitation of the overall storm. In contrast, during the lifespan of CS2, the southerly wind over the South China Sea became stronger. This caused an intense lower-level convergence zone along the coastal region of Guangdong Province, which provided favorable dynamic conditions for maintaining CS2. Favored by the strong coastal convergence and abundant moisture, new convective cells (CCs) were generated continuously and merged with CS2, acting as another favorable condition for its sustainment. Overall, CS2 lasted for 8 h, and its precipitation accounted for 95% of the total rainfall. In CS1, CCs showed a notable evaporation process below 4 km, manifested by the large raindrops. However, in CS2, the CCs had a higher concentration of small raindrops and higher ice and liquid water content. Since CS2 was close to the coastal region, the warm local environment promoted convection, leading to intense precipitation. Graph contrastive learning (GCL) has been subject to more attention and been widely applied to numerous graph learning tasks such as node classification and link prediction. Although it has achieved great success and even performed better than supervised methods in some tasks, most of them depend on node-level comparison, while ignoring the rich semantic information contained in graph topology, especially for social networks. However, a higher-level comparison requires subgraph construction and encoding, which remain unsolved. To address this problem, we propose a subgraph adaptive structure-aware graph contrastive learning method (PASCAL) in this work, which is a subgraph-level GCL method. In PASCAL, we construct subgraphs by merging all motifs that contain the target node. Then we encode them on the basis of motif number distribution to capture the rich information hidden in subgraphs. By incorporating motif information, PASCAL can capture richer semantic information hidden in local structures compared with other GCL methods. On 22 June 2017, an extreme warm-sector rainfall event hit the western coastal area of South China, with maximum hourly and 12-h rainfall accumulations of 189.4 and 464.8 mm, respectively, which broke local historical records. Multisource observations were used to reveal multiscale processes contributing to the extreme rainfall. The results showed that a marine boundary layer jet (BLJ) coupled with a synoptic low-level jet (LLJ) inland played an important role in the formation of an extremely humid environment with a very low lifting condensation level of near-surface air. Under the favorable pre-convective conditions, convection was initialized at a mesoscale convergence line, aided by topographic lifting in the evening. During the nocturnal hours, the rainstorm developed and was maintained by a quasi-stationary mesoscale outflow boundary, which continuously lifted warm, moist air transported by the enhanced BLJ. When producing the extreme rainfall rates, the storm possessed relatively weak convection, with the 40 dBZ echo top hardly reaching 6 km. The extreme rainfall was produced mainly by the warm rain microphysical processes, mainly because the humid environment and the deep warm cloud layer facilitated the clouds' condensational growth and collision–coalescence, and also reduced rain evaporation. As the storm evolved, the raindrop concentration increased rapidly from its initial stage and remained high until its weakening stage, but the mean raindrop size changed little. The extreme rain was characterized by the highest concentration of raindrops during the storm's lifetime with a mean size of raindrops slightly larger than the maritime regime. Relations in knowledge graphs have rich relational structures and various binary relational patterns. Various relation modelling strategies are proposed for embedding knowledge graphs, but they fail to fully capture both features of relations, rich relational structures and various binary relational patterns. To address the problem of insufficient embedding due to the complexity of the relations, we propose a novel knowledge graph representation model in complex space, namely MARS, to exploit complex relations to embed knowledge graphs. MARS takes the mechanisms of complex numbers and message-passing and then embeds triplets into relation-specific complex hyperplanes. Thus, MARS can well preserve various relation patterns, as well as structural information in knowledge graphs. In addition, we find that the scores generated from the score function approximate a Gaussian distribution. The scores in the tail cannot effectively represent triplets. To address this particular issue and improve the precision of embeddings, we use the standard deviation to limit the dispersion of the score distribution, resulting in more accurate embeddings of triplets. Comprehensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our model significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art models for link prediction and triple classification. The difference of nutrient composition between organic eggs and conventional eggs has always been a concern of people. In this study, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique combined with multivariate statistical analyses was conducted to identify the metabolite different in egg yolk and egg white in order to reveal the nutritional components information between organic and conventional eggs. The results showed that the nutrient content and composition characteristics were different between organic and conventional eggs, among which the content of glucose, putrescine, amino acids and their derivatives were found higher in the organic eggs yolk, while phospholipids were demonstrated higher in conventional eggs yolk. Organic acid, alcohol, amine, choline and amino acids were higher in conventional eggs white, but glucose and lactate in organic egg were higher. Our study demonstrated that there are more nutritive components and higher nutritional value in organic eggs than conventional eggs, especially for the growth and development of infants and young children, and conventional eggs have more advantages in promoting lipid metabolism, preventing fatty liver, and reducing serum cholesterol. Graph neural networks (GNNs) have demonstrated a remarkable ability in the task of semi-supervised node classification. However, most existing GNNs suffer from the nonrobustness issues, which poses a great challenge for applying GNNs into sensitive scenarios. Some researchers concentrate on constructing an ensemble model to mitigate the nonrobustness issues. Nevertheless, these methods ignore the interaction among base models, leading to similar graph representations. Moreover, due to the deterministic propagation applied in most existing GNNs, each node highly relies on its neighbors, leaving the nodes to be sensitive to perturbations. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel framework of graph ensemble learning based on knowledge passing (called GEL) to address the above issues. In order to achieve interaction, we consider the predictions of prior models as knowledge to obtain more reliable predictions. Moreover, we design a multilayer DropNode propagation strategy to reduce each node's dependence on particular neighbors. This strategy also empowers each node to aggregate information from diverse neighbors, alleviating oversmoothing issues. We conduct experiments on three benchmark datasets, including Cora, Citeseer, and Pubmed. GEL outperforms GCN by more than 5% in terms of accuracy across all three datasets and also performs better than other state-of-the-art baselines. In the present paper, the microstructures of three kinds of in-situ reinforcements Al-Ti-C, Al-Ti-B, and Al-Ti-B-C-Ce were deeply investigated using a combination of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The effect of in-situ reinforcements on the room temperature and elevated temperature (350 °C) tensile strengths of Al-13Si-4Cu-1Mg-2Ni alloy were analyzed. It is found that doping with trace amounts of B and Ce, the size of the Al3Ti phase in the in-situ reinforced alloy changed from 80 µm (un-reinforced) to about 10 µm, with the simultaneous formation of the AlTiCe phase. The Al-Ti-B-C-Ce reinforcement which is rapid solidified, was more effective and superior to enhance the tensile strengths of the Al-13Si-4Cu-1Mg-2Ni alloy, both at room and high temperatures than those of addition other reinforcements. Shuidouchi (Natto) is a fermented soy product showing in vivo gastric injury preventive effects. The treatment effects of Shuidouchi fermented in different vessels on HCl/ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury mice through their antioxidant effect was determined. Shuidouchi contained isoflavones (daidzein and genistein), and GVFS (glass vessel fermented Shuidouchi) had the highest isoflavone levels among Shuidouchi samples fermented in different vessels. After treatment with GVFS, the gastric mucosal injury was reduced as compared to the control mice. The gastric secretion volume (0.47 mL) and pH of gastric juice (3.1) of GVFS treated gastric mucosal injury mice were close to those of ranitidine-treated mice and normal mice. Shuidouchi could decrease serum motilin (MTL), gastrin (Gas) level and increase somatostatin (SS), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) level, and GVFS showed the strongest effects. GVFS showed lower IL-6, IL-12, TNF-α and IFN-γ cytokine levels than other vessel fermented Shuidouchi samples, and these levels were higher than those of ranitidine-treated mice and normal mice. GVFS also had higher superoxide dismutase (SOD), nitric oxide (NO) and malonaldehyde (MDA) contents in gastric tissues than other Shuidouchi samples. Shuidouchi could raise IκB-α, EGF, EGFR, nNOS, eNOS, Mn-SOD, Gu/Zn-SOD, CAT mRNA expressions and reduce NF-κB, COX-2, iNOS expressions as compared to the control mice. Ceramide (CE)-based combination therapy (CE combination) as a novel therapeutic strategy has attracted great attention in the field of anti-cancer therapy. The principal purposes of this study were to investigate the synergistic effect of CE in combination with docetaxel (DTX) (CE + DTX) and to explore the synergy mechanisms of CE + DTX. The 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and combination index (CI) assay showed that simultaneous administration of CE and DTX with a molar ratio of 0.5:1 could generate the optimal synergistic effect on murine malignant melanoma cell (B16, CI = 0.31) and human breast carcinoma cell (MCF-7, CI = 0.48). The apoptosis, cell cycle, and cytoskeleton destruction study demonstrated that CE could target and destruct the microfilament actin, subsequently activate Caspase-3 and induce apoptosis. Meanwhile, DTX could target and disrupt the microtubules cytoskeleton, leading to a high proportion of cancer cells in G2/M-phase arrest. Moreover, CE plus DTX could cause a synergistic destruction of cytoskeleton, which resulted in a significantly higher apoptosis and a significantly higher arrest in G2/M arrest comparing with either agent alone (p < 0.01). The in vivo antitumor study evaluated in B16 tumor-bearing mice also validated the synergistic effects. All these results suggested that CE could enhance the antitumor activity of DTX in a synergistic manner, which suggest promising application prospects of CE + DTX combination treatment. Sensor nodes usually have limited energy supply and they are impractical to recharge. How to balance traffic load in sensors in order to increase network lifetime is a very challenging research issue. Many clustering algorithms have been proposed recently for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, sensor networks with one fixed sink node often suffer from a hot spots problem since nodes near sinks have more traffic burden to forward during a multi-hop transmission process. The use of mobile sinks has been shown to be an effective technique to enhance network performance features such as latency, energy efficiency, network lifetime, etc. In this paper, a modified Stable Election Protocol (SEP), which employs a mobile sink, has been proposed for WSNs with non-uniform node distribution. The decision of selecting cluster heads by the sink is based on the minimization of the associated additional energy and residual energy at each node. Besides, the cluster head selects the shortest path to reach the sink between the direct approach and the indirect approach with the use of the nearest cluster head. In this study, a fuzzy-interval dynamic programming (FIDP) model is proposed for regional water management under uncertainty by combining fuzzy-interval linear programming (FILP) and dynamic programming (DP). This model can not only tackle uncertainties presented as intervals, but also consider the dynamic characteristics in the allocation process for water resources. Meanwhile, the overall satisfaction from users is considered in the objective function to solve the conflict caused by uneven distribution of resources. The FIDP model is then applied to the case study in terms of water resources allocation under uncertainty and dynamics for the City of Handan in Hebei Province, China. The obtained solutions can provide detailed allocation schemes and water shortage rates at different stages. The calculated comprehensive benefits of economy, water users' satisfaction and pollutant discharge (i.e., COD) are [2264.72, 2989.33] × 108 yuan, [87.50, 96.50] % and [1.23, 1.65] × 108 kg respectively with a plausibility degree (i.e., λ o p t ± ) ranging within [0.985, 0.993]. Moreover, the benefit from FIDP model under consideration of dynamic features is more specific and accurate than that of FILP model, whilst the water shortage rate from FIDP is [5.10, 9.10] % lower than that of FILP model. This paper deals with the query problem in the Internet of Things (IoT). Flooding is an important query strategy. However, original flooding is prone to cause heavy network loads. To address this problem, we propose a variant of flooding, called Level-Based Flooding (LBF). With LBF, the whole network is divided into several levels according to the distances (i.e., hops) between the sensor nodes and the sink node. The sink node knows the level information of each node. Query packets are broadcast in the network according to the levels of nodes. Upon receiving a query packet, sensor nodes decide how to process it according to the percentage of neighbors that have processed it. When the target node receives the query packet, it sends its data back to the sink node via random walk. We show by extensive simulations that the performance of LBF in terms of cost and latency is much better than that of original flooding, and LBF can be used in IoT of different scales. A four-loop shaped structure of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) acoustic emission (AE) sensor based on additive manufacturing (AM) technology is proposed in the letter. The finite element analysis (FEA) method was used to model and analyze the sensor structure. We aimed at improving the sensitivity, the static load analysis, and the dynamic response analysis of the normal FBG acoustic emission sensor and the FBG AE sensor with improved structure parameters. We constructed the FBG AE sensor experimental system based on a narrowband laser demodulation method and test on real acoustic emission signals. The results demonstrated that the response sensitivity of the FBG acoustic emission sensor was 1.47 times higher than the sensitivity of the normal FBG sensor. The sensitivity coefficient of PLA-AE-FBG2 sensor was 3.057, and that of PLA-AE-FBG1 was 2.0702. Through structural design and parameter optimization, the sensitivity and stability of the FBG AE sensor are improved. The four-loop shaped sensor is more suitable for the health monitoring in fields such as aero-engine blade, micro-crack of structure, and crack growth in bonded joints. While ensuring the sensing characteristics, sensitivity, and stability of the four-loop shaped sensor have been enhanced. Camellia oil (CA), mainly produced in southern China, has always been called Oriental olive oil (OL) due to its similar physicochemical properties to OL. The high nutritional value and high selling price of CA make mixing it with other low-quality oils prevalent, in order to make huge profits. In this paper, the transverse relaxation time (T2) distribution of different brands of CA and OL, and the variation in transverse relaxation parameters when adulterated with corn oil (CO), were assessed via low field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) imagery. The nutritional compositions of CA and OL and their quality indices were obtained via high field NMR (HF-NMR) spectroscopy. The results show that the fatty acid evaluation indices values, including for squalene, oleic acid, linolenic acid and iodine, were higher in CA than in OL, indicating the nutritional value of CA. The adulterated CA with a content of CO more than 20% can be correctly identified by principal component analysis or partial least squares discriminant analysis, and the blended oils could be successfully classified by orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis, with an accuracy of 100% when the adulteration ratio was above 30%. The microphysical characteristics of tropical cyclones vary in different rain regions, which affects not only the dynamic and thermodynamic mechanisms of the typhoon system but also the development of tropical cyclones. This study analyzed the raindrop size distribution (DSD) and the gamma DSD parameters associated with Typhoon Mangkhut using three two-dimensional (2D) video disdrometers from the Longmen Field Experiment Base for Cloud Physics, China Meteorological Administration in Guangdong, China during 16–17 September 2018. According to the observed track and radar reflectivity, this process can be divided into three distinct segments: the outer rainband before landfall (S1), the inner core (S2), and the outer rainband after landfall (S3). The outer rainband mainly produces stratiform rains, while the inner core mainly produces convective rains. The temporal and spatial variations in the rain rate, radar reflectivity, and DSD parameters of the different segments were analyzed and compared at three sites. Although the DSD characteristics are distinctly different in the three segments, the DSD characteristics of the same segment were similar at different sites. In the inner core (S2), the precipitation contains smaller drops (around 0.5 mm) and the concentrations are higher within each size bin compared with those of the other segments, resulting in the maximum rain rate (11.66 mm h−1), radar reflectivity (34.53 dBZ), liquid water content (0.65 g m−3), and number concentration (4.12 mm−1 m−3 on a logarithmic scale) occurring in this segment. The Nw–Dm scatter pairs have maritime-like convection, which increases outward from the inner core (S2). The relationship between the shape (μ) and slope (Λ) was also investigated. The microphysical characteristics determined in this study provide useful information for understanding microphysical precipitation processes and for improving the precision of numerical weather prediction models. Creep age forming (CAF) is a new technology developed for manufacturing large aluminum components in the aerospace industry. Aluminum–lithium alloys may be used in aerospace components because of their high modulus, specific strength and specific stiffness. Therefore, the creep deformation, mechanical properties and aging precipitation of Al-Li-S4 alloy under CAF conditions were studied. It was found that the creep behavior presents double steady state creep stages during the creep aging process. With the increase of stress level, the first steady creep rate increased, but the second steady creep rate was slightly reduced. Coincidentally, in the first steady state creep stage, the yield strength of the studied alloy also showed a slow increase stage. TEM observation showed that Al-Li-S4 alloy mainly contains two precipitation phases, T1 phase and θ' phase. A few precipitates form during the first steady creep stage. Then, a lot of nucleation and growth of T1 phase resulted in rapid increase of yield strength. At the same time, the increase of stress level effectively inhibited the growth of T1 phase, which resulted in these strengthening phases being more uniform, and thus improved the mechanical properties of materials. On this basis, the relationship between the multi-step behaviors of creep, mechanical properties and aging precipitates are discussed. It is considered that the main reasons for the multi-step phenomenon of creep and mechanical properties are strongly related to the nucleation, growth and distribution of T1 phase. Taurine is an indispensable amino acid for many fish species and taurine supplementation is needed when plant-based diets are used as the primary protein source for these species. However, there is limited information available to understand the physiological or metabolic effects of taurine on fish. In this study, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based metabolomic analysis was conducted to identify the metabolic profile change in the fish intestine with the aim to assess the effect of dietary taurine supplementation on the physiological and metabolomic variation of fish, and reveal the possible mechanism of taurine's metabolic effect. Grouper (Epinephelus coioides) were divided into four groups and fed diets containing 0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% taurine supplementation for 84 days. After extraction using aqueous and organic solvents, 25 significant taurine-induced metabolic changes were identified. These metabolic changes in grouper intestine were characterized by differences in carbohydrate, amino acid, lipid and nucleotide. The results reflected both the physiological state and growth of the fish, and indicated that taurine supplementation significantly affects the metabolome of fish, improves energy utilization and amino acid uptake, promotes protein, lipid and purine synthesis, and accelerates fish growth. The effects of cooling rate 0.15, 1.5, 15, 150, and 1.5 × 105 °C/s on the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al-13Si-4Cu-1Mg-2Ni cast piston alloy were investigated. The results show that with an increase of solidification cooling rate, the secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) of this model alloy can be calculated using the formula D = 47.126v − 1/3. The phases formed during the solidification with lower cooling rates primarily consist of eutectic silicon, M-Mg2Si phase, γ-Al7Cu4Ni phase, δ-Al3CuNi phase, ε-Al3Ni phase, and Q-Al5Cu2Mg8Si6 phase. With the increase in the solidification cooling rate from 0.15 to 15 °C/s, the hardness increased from 80.9 to 125.7 HB, the room temperature tensile strength enhanced from 189.3 to 282.5 MPa, and the elongation at break increased from 1.6% to 2.8%. The ε -Al3Ni phase disappears in the alloy and the Q phase emerges. The δ phase and the γ phase change from large-sized meshes and clusters to smaller meshes and Chinese script patterns. Further increase in the cooling rate leads to the micro hardness increasing gradually from 131.2 to 195.6 HV and the alloy solidifying into a uniform structure and forming nanocrystals. Panax ginseng is a famous herbal medicine widely used in Asia. Ginsenosides have been identified as the principle active ingredients for Panax ginseng's biological activity, among which ginsenoside Rd (Rd) attracts extensive attention for its obvious neuroprotective activities. Here we investigated the effect of Rd on neurite outgrowth, a crucial process associated with neuronal repair. PC12 cells, which respond to nerve growth factor (NGF) and serve as a model for neuronal cells, were treated with different concentrations of Rd, and then their neurite outgrowth was evaluated. Our results showed that 10 μM Rd significantly increased the percentages of long neurite- and branching neurite-bearing cells, compared with respective controls. The length of the longest neurites and the total length of neurites in Rd-treated PC12 cells were much longer than that of respective controls. We also showed that Rd activated ERK1/2 and AKT but not PKC signalings, and inhibition of ERK1/2 by PD98059 or/and AKT by LY294002 effectively attenuated Rd-induced neurite outgrowth. Moreover, Rd upregulated the expression of GAP-43, a neuron-specific protein involved in neurite outgrowth, while PD98059 or/and LY294002 decreased Rd-induced increased GAP-43 expression. Taken together, our results provided the first evidence that Rd may promote the neurite outgrowth of PC12 cells by upregulating GAP-43 expression via ERK- and ARK-dependent signaling pathways.

l-Methionine γ-lyase (MGL), a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-dependent enzyme, possesses anti-tumor activity. However, the low activity of MGL blocks the anti-tumor effect. This study describes an efficient production process for the recombinant MGL (rMGL) from Idiomarina constructed using the overexpression plasmid in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3), purification, and large-scale production. The enzyme produced by the transformants accounted for 53% of the total proteins and accumulated at 1.95 mg/mL using a 500 L fermentor. The enzyme was purified to approximately 99% purity using a high-pressure mechanical homogenizer and nickel (Ni) Sepharose 6 Fast Flow (FF) chromatography. Then, the enzyme was polished by gel filtration, the endotoxins were removed using diethyl-aminoethanol (DEAE) Sepharose FF, and the final product was lyophilized with a vacuum freeze dryer at -35 °C. The specific activity of rMGL in the lyophilized powder was up to 108 U/mg. Compared to the control, the enzyme significantly inhibited cellular proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner as tested using the MTS (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium) assay and induced cellular apoptosis as analyzed by Annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) with fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) in leukemia cells. This paper demonstrated the cloning, overexpression, and large-scale production protocols for rMGL, which enabled rMGL to be used as a novel anti-leukemic drug.

Traffic patterns in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) usually follow a many-to-one model. Sensor nodes close to static sinks will deplete their limited energy more rapidly than other sensors, since they will have more data to forward during multihop transmission. This will cause network partition, isolated nodes and much shortened network lifetime. Thus, how to balance energy consumption for sensor nodes is an important research issue. In recent years, exploiting sink mobility technology in WSNs has attracted much research attention because it can not only improve energy efficiency, but prolong network lifetime. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient distance-aware routing algorithm with multiple mobile sink for WSNs, where sink nodes will move with a certain speed along the network boundary to collect monitored data. We study the influence of multiple mobile sink nodes on energy consumption and network lifetime, and we mainly focus on the selection of mobile sink node number and the selection of parking positions, as well as their impact on performance metrics above. We can see that both mobile sink node number and the selection of parking position have important influence on network performance. Simulation results show that our proposed routing algorithm has better performance than traditional routing ones in terms of energy consumption.

In time-critical wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, a high degree of reliability is commonly required. A dynamical jumping real-time fault-tolerant routing protocol (DMRF) is proposed in this paper. Each node utilizes the remaining transmission time of the data packets and the state of the forwarding candidate node set to dynamically choose the next hop. Once node failure, network congestion or void region occurs, the transmission mode will switch to jumping transmission mode, which can reduce the transmission time delay, guaranteeing the data packets to be sent to the destination node within the specified time limit. By using feedback mechanism, each node dynamically adjusts the jumping probabilities to increase the ratio of successful transmission. Simulation results show that DMRF can not only efficiently reduce the effects of failure nodes, congestion and void region, but also yield higher ratio of successful transmission, smaller transmission delay and reduced number of control packets.

A high degree of reliability for critical data transmission is required in body sensor networks (BSNs). However, BSNs are usually vulnerable to channel impairments due to body fading effect and RF interference, which may potentially cause data transmission to be unreliable. In this paper, an adaptive and flexible fault-tolerant communication scheme for BSNs, namely AFTCS, is proposed. AFTCS adopts a channel bandwidth reservation strategy to provide reliable data transmission when channel impairments occur. In order to fulfill the reliability requirements of critical sensors, fault-tolerant priority and queue are employed to adaptively adjust the channel bandwidth allocation. Simulation results show that AFTCS can alleviate the effect of channel impairments, while yielding lower packet loss rate and latency for critical sensors at runtime.

Embedded systems are playing an increasingly important role in control engineering. Despite their popularity, embedded systems are generally subject to resource constraints and it is therefore difficult to build complex control systems on embedded platforms. Traditionally, the design and implementation of control systems are often separated, which causes the development of embedded control systems to be highly timeconsuming and costly. To address these problems, this paper presents a low-cost, reusable, reconfigurable platform that enables integrated design and implementation of embedded control systems. To minimize the cost, free and open source software packages such as Linux and Scilab are used. Scilab is ported to the embedded ARM-Linux system. The drivers for interfacing Scilab with several communication protocols including serial, Ethernet, and Modbus are developed. Experiments are conducted to test the developed embedded platform. The use of Scilab enables implementation of complex control algorithms on embedded platforms. With the developed platform, it is possible to perform all phases of the development cycle of embedded control systems in a unified environment, thus facilitating the reduction of development time and cost.

There is a trend towards using wireless technologies in networked control systems. However, the adverse properties of the radio channels make it difficult to design and implement control systems in wireless environments. To attack the uncertainty in available communication resources in wireless control systems closed over WLAN, a cross-layer adaptive feedback scheduling (CLAFS) scheme is developed, which takes advantage of the co-design of control and wireless communications. By exploiting crosslayer design, CLAFS adjusts the sampling periods of control systems at the application layer based on information about deadline miss ratio and transmission rate from the physical layer. Within the framework of feedback scheduling, the control performance is maximized through controlling the deadline miss ratio. Key design parameters of the feedback scheduler are adapted to dynamic changes in the channel condition. An eventdriven invocation mechanism for the feedback scheduler is also developed. Simulation results show that the proposed approach is efficient in dealing with channel capacity variations and noise interference, thus providing an enabling technology for control over WLAN.

A wireless sensor/actuator network (WSAN) is a group of sensors and actuators that are geographically distributed and interconnected by wireless networks. Sensors gather information about the state of physical world. Actuators react to this information by performing appropriate actions. WSANs thus enable cyber systems to monitor and manipulate the behavior of the physical world. WSANs are growing at a tremendous pace, just like the exploding evolution of Internet. Supporting quality of service (QoS) will be of critical importance for pervasive WSANs that serve as the network infrastructure of diverse applications. To spark new research and development interests in this field, this paper examines and discusses the requirements, critical challenges, and open research issues on QoS management in WSANs. A brief overview of recent progress is given.

Wireless sensor/actuator networks (WSANs) are emerging rapidly as a newgeneration of sensor networks. Despite intensive research in wireless sensor networks(WSNs), limited work has been found in the open literature in the field of WSANs. Inparticular, quality-of-service (QoS) management in WSANs remains an important issue yetto be investigated. As an attempt in this direction, this paper develops a fuzzy logic controlbased QoS management (FLC-QM) scheme for WSANs with constrained resources and indynamic and unpredictable environments. Taking advantage of the feedback controltechnology, this scheme deals with the impact of unpredictable changes in traffic load on theQoS of WSANs. It utilizes a fuzzy logic controller inside each source sensor node to adaptsampling period to the deadline miss ratio associated with data transmission from the sensorto the actuator. The deadline miss ratio is maintained at a pre-determined desired level sothat the required QoS can be achieved. The FLC-QM has the advantages of generality,scalability, and simplicity. Simulation results show that the FLC-QM can provide WSANswith QoS support.

Wireless control systems (WCSs) often have to operate in dynamic environmentswhere the network traffic load may vary unpredictably over time. The sampling in sensors isconventionally time triggered with fixed periods. In this context, only worse-than-possiblequality of control (QoC) can be achieved when the network is underloaded, whileoverloaded conditions may significantly degrade the QoC, even causing system instability.This is particularly true when the bandwidth of the wireless network is limited and sharedby multiple control loops. To address these problems, a flexible time-triggered samplingscheme is presented in this work. Smart sensors are used to facilitate dynamic adjustment ofsampling periods, which enhances the flexibility and resource efficiency of the system basedon time-triggered sampling. Feedback control technology is exploited for adapting samplingperiods in a periodic manner. The deadline miss ratio in each control loop is maintainedat/around a desired level, regardless of workload variations. Simulation results show that theproposed sampling scheme is able to deal with dynamic and unpredictable variations innetwork traffic load. Compared to conventional time-triggered sampling, it leads to muchbetter QoC in WCSs operating in dynamic environments.

Wireless sensor/actuator networks (WSANs) are emerging as a new generationof sensor networks. Serving as the backbone of control applications, WSANs will enablean unprecedented degree of distributed and mobile control. However, the unreliability ofwireless communications and the real-time requirements of control applications raise greatchallenges for WSAN design. With emphasis on the reliability issue, this paper presents anapplication-level design methodology for WSANs in mobile control applications. Thesolution is generic in that it is independent of the underlying platforms, environment,control system models, and controller design. To capture the link quality characteristics interms of packet loss rate, experiments are conducted on a real WSAN system. From theexperimental observations, a simple yet efficient method is proposed to deal withunpredictable packet loss on actuator nodes. Trace-based simulations give promisingresults, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
