Abstract

The article discusses readers' use of paratext in a book to determine whether a work is to be engaged or not. Topics covered the peritext element that refers to book parts surrounding the text, such as the cover, foreword, and table of contents, and the epitext element that refers to outside information on the book, such as book reviews and trailers, and author correspondence. Also noted is the paratextual approach's provision of more insights and enhancement of critical thinking skills.
