Urinary stones and urine composition are the first steps in the process of recurrence prevention, but data concerning the association between the two compositions are scarce in Chinese children with urolithiasis. We retrospectively analyzed the records of children (age range 0-18 years) with urolithiasis in our center between March 2004 and December 2013. Stone analysis was carried out in 382 children and 24-hour urine analysis in 80 children. Analysis of both stone and 24-hour urine composition was completed in 56 children. Stone samples were analyzed by Fourier transform-infrared spectrometry. The major stone constituents were calcium oxalate (78.8 %). Of 80 children with 24 h urine analysis, only 2.5 % were without urinary metabolic abnormalities. Hypocitraturia was recorded in 97.5 %, high sodium excretion in 50.0 %, cystinuria in 48.7 %, hypercalciuria in 18.8 %, small urine volumes in 12.5 %, hyperoxaluria in 5.0 % and hyperuricosuria in 1.3 %. Interestingly, higher urine volumes were recorded in girls than in boys (73.2 ± 58.5 vs 51.3 ± 45.3 mL/kg, p = 0.036). Urine sodium ( p = 0.002) and oxalate ( p = 0.004) were significantly higher in children >9 year old. Moreover, compared with calcium oxalate stone formers, the urine volume ( p = 0.040), citrate ( p = 0.007) and cystine ( p = 0.004) were higher in patients with cystine stones. The goal of present study was to translate and validate the Social Well-being Scale (SWBS) with a Chinese sample, first developed by (Keyes in Social Psychology Quarterly 61(2):121-140, 1998). We examined the internal consistency, convergent validity and the measurement invariance across gender groups. A total of 630 Chinese individuals were recruited for the present study and they completed the SWBS, Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scales, and Satisfaction With Life Scale. Confirmation factor analysis demonstrated that the original five factor structure-(1) social integration, (2) social acceptance, (3) social actualization, (4) social contribution, and (5) social coherence-of social well-being previously found in Western populations were replicated in this sample. Internal consistency was high in all subscales but self-acceptance subscale and convergent validity with positive affect, negative affect and life satisfaction was found. Evidence of measurement invariance across gender groups was obtained. These findings suggested that the Chinese version of SWBS would be useful for assessing social well-being in China. A 10.35-m-long sediment core from the Luobei depression in Lop-Nur, Xinjiang, Northwest China, provides detailed information about environmental changes during the Late Pleistocene. The samples taken every 5 cm of the core were analyzed for 10 environmental proxies, including magnetic susceptibility, granularity, chroma, carbonate and loss on ignition (LOI), and pH value. The chronology data are provided by the uranium/thorium disequilibrium dates. The sediments of the section were deposited during the last 32000 years. The results of analysis of 10 proxies were examined using multivariate statistical analysis, and the principal components were calculated. According to the results, the Late Pleistocene sequence contains four climatic and environmental stages appearing in the cycles of cold-wet and warm-dry changes. During 10-9 ka BP, it was the earliest warm episode in the Holocene. Environmental changes in this district were restricted by global change, as suggested by the analysis of glacial-interglacial cycles. But it was different from the mutative trend of a monsoon region in East China because of its own characteristics, which was the situation of cold-wet and warm-dry climate-environment change. In a very short time, higher education transitioned to online and blended learning, in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Although research literature is replete with rationale for instructors to develop digital competence during the Great Online Transition, research on the correlates of digital competence and effort expectancy in relation to their work engagement has remained insufficient. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate the effects of digital competence and effort expectancy and how they predict teachers' work engagement. A sample of 321 in-service teachers selected from universities in China took part in this study. The results of structural equation modeling indicated that teachers' digital competence positively and significantly correlated with their work engagement and their effort expectancy. In addition, effort expectancy significantly influenced teachers' work engagement. Lastly, effort expectancy, as the mediator variable, was found to mediate the relationship between teachers' digital competence and their work engagement. Objectives: The early infection dynamics of patients with SARS-CoV-2 are not well understood. We aimed to investigate and characterize associations between clinical, laboratory, and imaging features of asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic patients with SARS-CoV-2. Methods: Seventy-four patients with RT-PCR-proven SARS-CoV-2 infection were asymptomatic at presentation. All were retrospectively identified from 825 patients with chest CT scans and positive RT-PCR following exposure or travel risks in outbreak settings in Japan and China. CTs were obtained for every patient within a day of admission and were reviewed for infiltrate subtypes and percent with assistance from a deep learning tool. Correlations of clinical, laboratory, and imaging features were analyzed and comparisons were performed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Results: Forty-eight of 74 (65%) initially asymptomatic patients had CT infiltrates that pre-dated symptom onset by 3.8 days. The most common CT infiltrates were ground glass opacities (45/48; 94%) and consolidation (22/48; 46%). Patient body temperature (p < 0.01), CRP (p < 0.01), and KL-6 (p = 0.02) were associated with the presence of CT infiltrates. Infiltrate volume (p = 0.01), percent lung involvement (p = 0.01), and consolidation (p = 0.043) were associated with subsequent development of symptoms. Conclusions: COVID-19 CT infiltrates pre-dated symptoms in two-thirds of patients. Body temperature elevation and laboratory evaluations may identify asymptomatic patients with SARS-CoV-2 CT infiltrates at presentation, and the characteristics of CT infiltrates could help identify asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 patients who subsequently develop symptoms. The role of chest CT in COVID-19 may be illuminated by a better understanding of CT infiltrates in patients with early disease or SARS-CoV-2 exposure. An interhemispheric hydrologic seesaw-in which latitudinal migrations of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) produce simultaneous wetting (increased precipitation) in one hemisphere and drying in the other-has been discovered in some tropical and subtropical regions. For instance, Chinese and Brazilian subtropical speleothem (cave formations such as stalactites and stalagmites) records show opposite trends in time series of oxygen isotopes (a proxy for precipitation variability) at millennial to orbital timescales, suggesting that hydrologic cycles were antiphased in the northerly versus southerly subtropics. This tropical to subtropical hydrologic phenomenon is likely to be an initial and important climatic response to orbital forcing. The impacts of such an interhemispheric hydrologic seesaw on higher-latitude regions and the global climate system, however, are unknown. Here we show that the antiphasing seen in the tropical records is also present in both hemispheres of the mid-latitude western Pacific Ocean. Our results are based on a new 550,000-year record of the growth frequency of speleothems from the Korean peninsula, which we compare to Southern Hemisphere equivalents. The Korean data are discontinuous and derived from 24 separate speleothems, but still allow the identification of periods of peak speleothem growth and, thus, precipitation. The clear hemispheric antiphasing indicates that the sphere of influence of the interhemispheric hydrologic seesaw over the past 550,000 years extended at least to the mid-latitudes, such as northeast Asia, and that orbital-timescale ITCZ shifts can have serious effects on temperate climate systems. Furthermore, our result implies that insolation-driven ITCZ dynamics may provoke water vapour and vegetation feedbacks in northern mid-latitude regions and could have regulated global climate conditions throughout the late Quaternary ice age cycles. Duane retraction syndrome (DRS) is a neuromuscular dysfunction of the eyes. Although many causative genes of DRS have been identified in Europe and the United States, few reports have been published in regard to Chinese DRS. The aim of the present study was to explore the genetic defect of DRS in a Chinese family. Exome sequencing was used to identify the disease-causing gene for the two affected family members. Ophthalmic and physical examinations, as well as genetic screenings for variants in chimerin 1 (CHN1), were performed for all family members. Functional analyses of a CHN1 variant in 293T cells included a Rac-GTP activation assay, α2-chimaerin translocation assay, and co-immunoprecipitation assay. Genetic analysis revealed a NM_001822.7: c.637T > G variant in the CHN1 gene, which resulted in the substitution of a highly conserved C1 domain with valine at codon 213 (NP_001813.1: p.(Phe213Val)) (ClinVar Accession Number: SCV001335305). In-silico analysis revealed that the p.(Phe213Val) substitution affected the protein stability and connections among the amino acids of CHN1 in terms of its tertiary protein structure. Functional studies indicated that the p.(Phe213Val) substitution reduced Rac-GTP activity and enhanced membrane translocation in response to phorbol-myristoyl acetate (PMA).
