With the rapid development of computer technology, urban informatics, as a new discipline in the field of urban planning, has gradually attracted academic attention. The rise of urban informatics puts new pressures on urban planning, but it also provides a new perspective of analysis. This paper is a summary of a panel discussion among scholars in urban informatics held at the 2020 International Association for China Planning(IACP).In this context, the panel outlines the definition of urban informatics, and the difference between urban informatics and urban analytic and computing, and found that urban informatics pays more attention to end user. This indicates that urban informatics has been more than a supporting role in urban planning or design, and is increasingly integrated with urban planning. The panel also discusses the connotation of urban informatics and its wide application in practice, and illustrates with examples. At the same time, the team identifies the difficulties of its development mainly reflected in the two aspects of resources and talents, and the learners of urban planning discipline have natural advantage in learning urban informatics. Finally, the panel discusses how to improve teaching, and concludes that the promotion of good cases, discipline integration, training data thinking rather than focusing too much on methods and other concepts. Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) are reshaping urban systems, demanding substantial computational support. While existing research emphasizes the significance of establishing physical and virtual infrastructure to facilitate CAV integration, a comprehensive framework for designing CAV-related infrastructure principles remains largely absent. This paper introduces a holistic framework that addresses gaps in current literature by presenting principles for the design of CAV-related infrastructure. We identify diverse urban infrastructure types crucial for CAVs, each characterized by intricate considerations. Deriving from existing literature, we introduce five principles to guide investments in physical infrastructure, complemented by four principles specific to virtual infrastructure. These principles are expected to evolve with CAV development and associated technology advancements. Furthermore, we exemplify the application of these principles through a case study in Oxford, UK. In doing so, we assess urban conditions, identify representative streets, and craft CAV-related urban infrastructure tailored to distinct street characteristics. This framework stands as a valuable reference for cities worldwide as they prepare for the increasing adoption of CAVs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ammonia (NH3) emissions, mainly from agricultural sources, generate substantial health damage due to the adverse effects on air quality. NH3 emission reduction strategies are still far from being effective. In particular, a growing trade network in this era of globalization offers untapped emission mitigation potential that has been overlooked. Here we show that about one-fourth of global agricultural NH3 emissions in 2012 are trade-related. Globally they induce 61 thousand PM2.5-related premature mortalities, with 25 thousand deaths associated with crop cultivation and 36 thousand deaths with livestock production. The trade-related health damage network is regionally integrated and can be characterized by three trading communities. Thus, effective cooperation within trade-dependent communities will achieve considerable NH3 emission reductions allowed by technological advancements and trade structure adjustments. Identification of regional communities from network analysis offers a new perspective on addressing NH3 emissions and is also applicable to agricultural greenhouse gas emissions mitigation. Ammonia emissions from agricultural sources can cause severe health impacts. Here, the authors show that about 25% of global agricultural ammonia emissions in 2012 were related to international exported goods and caused 61 thousand PM2.5 related premature deaths, which points out large ammonia mitigation potential in international trade. As the major primary energy importer in the world, China has engaged in considerable efforts to ensure energy security. However, little attention has been paid to China's embodied primary energy exports. Separating the international export from regional final demand, this paper focuses on quantifying provincial primary energy requirement arising from China's exports, and tracing its concrete interprovincial supply chains using multi-regional input-output analysis and structural path analysis. Results show that China's embodied primary energy uses in exports (EEE) reached 633.01 Mtce in 2012, compared to 565.15 Mtce in 2007. Four fifths of the EEE were supplied through interprovincial trade. Eastern coastal provinces accounted for nearly 70% of the national total EEE, while their primary energy supply mainly sourced from the central and western provinces. Most interprovincial supply chain paths of embodied primary energy exports were traced to the coal mining sectors of Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi. Critical receiving sectors in the final export provinces were Chemical industry, Metallurgy, Electronic equipment, Textile and other manufacturing sectors. Important transmission sectors were Electricity and hot water production and supply and Petroleum refining, coking, etc. In view of the specific role of exports in primary energy requirements, provincial energy uses are largely dependent on its domestic trade position and degrees of industrial participation in the global economy. Managing critical industrial sectors and supply chain paths associated with the international exports provide new insights to ensure China's energy security and to formulate targeted energy policies.
