Tea plants are evergreen broad-leaved perennial shrubs, and their spectral characteristics are very similar to those of other evergreen vegetation, making it difficult to distinguish them. Currently, the most commonly used method of tea plantation extraction is machine learning, which classifies tea plantation through various feature combinations and algorithms. The disadvantage of these methods is that they require a large number of local training samples, making it challenging to produce an accurate model applicable to a large region. Furthermore, complex feature combinations and indicators may result in over-fitting, reducing the accuracy of the results. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new algorithm suitable for tea plantation extraction in extensive regions. This paper uses Shihe District, Henan Province, China as a case in 2019, combined with Landsat-7/8 and Sentinel-2A/B images, and develops a new phenological-based algorithm to extract the tea plantation area. Firstly, we generated an evergreen vegetation map. Secondly, based on high-quality time series curves, the tea plant growth period was divided into seven parts to extract phenological indicators for classification. Finally, the tea plantation in the study area was extracted on a per-pixel basis. The overall accuracy of the algorithm is 87.59%, and the Kappa coefficient is 0.80. This study demonstrates the potential of the phenology-algorithms in extracting tea plantation areas and provides an advanced scheme and scientific basis for extracting tea plantation in other years, and also offers a reference for identifying tea plantation in other regions. Developing agricultural mechanization services has been an important approach to pushing smallholder farmers engaging modern agricultural production in China. However, whether smallholder farmers prefer adopting agricultural mechanization services is still under-analysed. In this paper, we use data covering 3,440 wheat farmers collected from Henan province in China to investigate the links between farm size and the adoption of agricultural mechanization services. The results indicate that an inverted U-shaped relationship between farm size and the adoption of agricultural mechanization services exists. We also find that small farms can input more family labour, and large farms tend to invest in self-owned machinery assets. Our analysis implies that the development of agricultural mechanization services is not inevitable to attract farmers with alternative elements, and smallholder farmers may not be the major groups involved in the market of social services in agriculture in the future. In this paper, three new species of the tribe Anthocoptini from China are described and illustrated. They are Aculops grewiaesp. nov. infesting Grewia biloba G.Don. (Malvaceae), Aculops koelreuteriaesp. nov. infesting Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. (Sapindaceae) and Tegolophus pogonatherisp. nov. infesting Pogonatherum crinitum (Thunb.) Kunth (Poaceae). Isodon japonicus (N. Burman) H. Hara (family: Lamiaceae), is a traditional herbal plant from Henan Province, China. In this study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome of I. japonicus sampled from the Funiu Mountains, Henan Province, China. The total length of the chloroplast genome is 152,298 bp, and has a typical quadripartite structure, including a large single-copy region (LSC) of 83,184 bp, a small single-copy region (SSC) of 17,806 bp and a pair of inverted repeats of 25,654 bp. The chloroplast genome of I. japonicus consists of 133 genes, including 88 protein-coding genes, eight rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. There are 34 tandem repeats and 50 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) in the chloroplast genome. The total guanine-cytosine (GC) content of the whole chloroplast genome is 37.6%. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that I. japonicus forms a clade with six other Isodon species and is closely associated with I. rubescens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coal mine methane (CMM) drainage is an effective method to curb the occurrence of coal and gas outburst and gas explosion, to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emission, and to make full use of the clean energy(methane). Sealing in-seam horizontal boreholes plays a vital role in CMM drainage. Reasonable sealing length is an important factor to achieve high extraction efficiency and reduce the cost of construction. To determine the minimum reasonable sealing length of drainage boreholes, the radius of the fracture zone was obtained based on the ideal elastoplastic model, and this radius was taken as the minimum sealing length. The influencing factors of the minimum sealing length were analyzed and engineering verification test was taken in Zhongmacun mine in Henan province, China. The research results show that the minimum reasonable sealing length should be longer for a larger radius of the coal roadway and the coal seam with a deeper buried depth, while the minimum reasonable sealing length can be shortened with the increase of uniaxial compressive strength and the supporting stress of the coal roadway. The 11.07 m of sealing length calculated by theories was basically consistent with the 12 m of sealing length verified by the method of drilling cuttings. The reasonableness of sealing length (12 m) was verified by the test results of methane concentration and flux within 40 days. All those outcomes can provide references for other mines to determine the minimum reasonable sealing length of in-seam boreholes for CMM drainage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To account for potential asymmetries in the relationship, this study applies new bootstrap symmetric and asymmetric multivariate panel Granger causality test to examine the causal relationship between international tourism receipts (ITRs) and economic growth in China for the period from 1995 to 2019. The result supports evidence for the symmetric causality in Henan, showing significant one-way Granger causality from ITRs to real gross domestic product (RGDP). They also indicate that Hunan has significant one-way Granger causality from RGDP to ITRs. A positive δ 13C excursion in Palaeoproterozoic carbonate sequences in Henan, China is reported in this paper. Carbon isotope analyses of samples from Wuzhiling and Huayu Formation of Songshan Group, a well-preserved Palaeoproterozoic-carbonate sequences in northern Henan, China present δ 13C values range from −1.0‰ to 4.2‰PDB, with a mean at 2.5‰PDB. Results of microscope observation, oxygen isotope, and Mn/Sr ratio indicate that Wuzhiling Formation suffered stronger alternation than Huayu, which suggested a higher initial δ 13C excursion of Wuzhiling Formation than present known value. The positive δ 13Ccarb excursions of Wuzhiling Formation support the Lamagundi Event as early oxygenation of the terrestrial environment, was also recorded in Palaeoproterozoic carbonate sequences in Henan, China. Understanding and mapping multiple cropping patterns(MCP) is important to meet global food demand. Due to the random crops in smallholder farming, it is challenging to obtain phenology and location of MCP. Phenology exhibits stable rhythmic variation, and vegetation index(VI) forms time-series profiles reflecting rhythmic variations. Since most crops have different growth cycles, time-series are used as a fingerprint to distinguish multiple crops in a specific area. Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) normalized-VI(NDVI) data were used to construct time-series, but different land cover types were often mixed in a 250 m MODIS pixel. Time-series were explored as input of spectral unmixing algorithms that could capture the spatial distribution of MCP and subpixels at large areas. Time-series profiles of MCP were extracted based on N-finder algorithm(N-FINDR). Considering the mixed-pixel, fully constrained least-squares(FCLS) was used to extract the spatial distribution of MCP. The accuracy of the algorithm was verified using high spatial resolution images with an overall accuracy of 85.65%. North China Plain is the largest agricultural production center in China and wheat-maize rotation is a widespread cultivation practice in this area. As gross primary production (GPP) is a proxy of land productivity, research on its spatial-temporal dynamics helps understand the variation of grain production in wheat-maize rotation. Here, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data and ground observation data were combined to drive Vegetation Photosynthesis Model (VPM) in GPP estimation over wheat-maize rotation area during 2000–2015. Annual GPP has increased by 540.95 g C m−2 year−1 from 2000 to 2015, while total annual GPP has grown ∼150% than that of 2000. Moreover, annual GPP showed an increasing trend in the consecutively wheat-maize rotation area between 2000 and 2015. A strong linear relationship between GPP estimates and grain production demonstrated the potential of using VPM model to evaluate grain production in wheat-maize rotation area of Henan province, China. Developing agricultural mechanization services is commonly regarded as an important approach to pushing smallholder farmers engaging in modern agricultural production in China. However, whether smallholder farmers can benefit more from agricultural mechanization services is ambiguous. Using household-level data collected from Henan province in China, this study investigates the effect of agricultural mechanization services on the productivity of different-sized farms. The results indicate that the productivity of medium farms benefits more from agricultural mechanization services rather than small and large farms. Further analysis shows that medium farms are more likely to adopt agricultural mechanization services and reveals a positive relationship between the adoption of agricultural mechanization services and farm productivity. The higher rate of adoption of agricultural mechanization services and the related higher productivity of medium farms can be explained by the tendency of large farms to invest in self-owned agricultural machinery and the likelihood that small farms will input more labourers in wheat production. Cloeon micki sp. n., a new species of baetid mayfly from China is described and illustrated based on larval and imaginal stages associated by laboratory rearing. The new species is characterised by the presence of a dark brown or dark purple elliptical marking on abdominal tergites II and V, which readily distinguishes it from other members of the genus Cloeon Leach, 1815. The Upper Cretaceous Gaogou, Majiachun and Sigou formations in the Xixia Basin are composed of terrestrial clastic deposits, which are dominated by red-violet mudstones, muddy siltstones, siltstones, grayish fine-grained sandstones, intercalated with grayish, off-white medium- and coarse-grained sandstones or conglomerates. They contain 10 ichnogenera and 22 ichnospecies and Rhizoliths, includingArenicolitesisp.,Archaeonassaisp.,Beaconites antarcticus,B.capronus,B.coronus,Cylindricumisp.,Gastruichnus xixiaensis,Palaeophycus megas,P. tubularis,P. heberti,P.sulcatus,P. cf.sulcatus,P.striatus,Planolites beverleyensis,P. isp.,Scoyenia gracilis,Skolithos verticalis,S. linearis,S.isp.,Taenidium irregularis,T.serpentinumandT.barretti. From north to south across the basin, alluvial fan, braided and meandering fluvial and fluvio-lacustrine systems are recognised on the basis of sedimentary features. In reference to them, four ichnoassemblages are recognised: (1)Skolithos-Gastruichnusichnoassemblage in the channel environment of braided and meandering river, (2)Beaconites-Taenidiumichnoassemblage in the natural levee and crevasse splays, (3)Beaconites-Palaeophycusichnoassemblage in the flood plain and (4)Taenidium-Scoyeniaichnoassemblage in the periodically exposed fluvio-lacustrine (pond or very shallow lacustrine) sedimentary environments. The present work not only enrich the trace fossils database of terrestrial origin but also offer new data to complete further continental ichnofacies mode and also provide the constraints on palaeoenvironments of the Xixia Basin. One mineral-solubilizing bacterial strain designated KT was isolated from a soil in Henan Province, China. The full-length 16S rRNA gene sequence showed 95.2 to 96.7% similarity to the bacteria of the genus Paenibacillus, indicating that the strain KT belonged to the genus Paenibacillus. The potential of this strain to release potassium from silicate minerals was investigated using a potassium-bearing rock as the sole source of potassium to support its growth. After inoculation for 7 days, the concentrations of water-soluble Al, Ca and Fe released from the potassium-bearing rock in active bacterial culture were higher than those from the control with autoclaved inoculum, but the concentration of water-soluble K in active bacterial culture was similar to that in the control. The concentrations of HNO3-extractable Al, Ca, Fe and K from the bacterial culture were also higher than those in the control. These results showed strain KT was able to release potassium from potassium-bearing rock. These results have important implications for extraction of potassium from rocks to support plant growth. Based on data from a snowball sampling survey conducted in rural Henan in 2001, we analyze the prevalence, patterns, and risk factors of prenatal sex selection and estimate its impact on sex ratio at birth. Our results indicate that prenatal sex selection is widely known and practiced in rural Henan; ex ante fetal sex and family sibset composition are the dominant predictors of abortion, regardless of maternal heterogeneity; and sex-selective abortion is the predominant, if not sole, cause of the sample's high sex ratio at birth. Wheat samples of the 1998 and 1999 crops from Puyang, an area in Henan Province, PR China with a previous human red mould intoxication episode, were analysed for trichothecenes and zearalenone (ZEA). For the 1998 Puyang crop, deoxynivalenol (DON) was the predominant toxin detected abundantly and frequently at a level of up to 14000 μgkg[sup -1] (mean 2850 μgkg[sup -1]) in 30 of 31 (97%) wheat samples. Among these were 21 (70%) with a DON level that exceeded the Chinese regulation of 1000 μgkg[sup -1]. Nivalenol (NIV) and 15-acetyl-DON (15-ADON) were also found at 578 μgkg[sup -1] (one sample) and 59- 1800 μgkg[sup -1] (mean 365 μgkg[sup -1], 20 samples), respectively. ZEA co-occurred in 21 samples at 9- 1400 μgkg[sup -1] (mean 209 μgkg[sup -1]). Twenty-five (89%) wheat samples from Zhumadian, a region without a history of human red mould intoxication in the same province, contained low levels of DON (53-1240, mean 223 μgkg[sup -1]) with seven (25%) co-contaminated with ZEA (10-217, mean 108 μgkg[sup -1]). All were free from 15-ADON and NIV. Significant differences in DON, 15-ADON and ZEA concentrations between both areas were found. DON (<1000 μgkg[sup -1]) and ZEA (5-113 μgkg[sup -1]) were also detected in the 1999 Puyang wheat. Proper environmental conditions for Fusarium species surviving winter combined with unusual high precipitation during wheat flowering were responsible for a high concentration of Fusarium mycotoxins in the 1998 Puyang wheat.
