Brown adipose tissue (BAT) has been reported to possess the potential to ameliorate diet‐induced obesity. However, the molecular mechanism of BAT activation in alleviating obese states remains unclear. This study investigated the physiology and BAT index of high‐fat diet‐induced and normal chow mice after 3 weeks of mild cold treatment. Body weights and lipid accumulations in BAT and white adipose tissue were significantly decreased by cold treatment. Lipidomics analysis showed that chronic cold treatment caused the remodeling of major lipid classes in BAT, especially species and phospholipid content, plus the mitochondrial morphology. Evidence indicated mitochondrial biogenesis and thermogenesis, and all the effects caused by BAT activation were more pronounced in obese mice. Taken together, our study revealed that phospholipid metabolism is the fundamental requirement in the anti‐obesity effect of BAT. Practical Applications: Chronic mild cold treatment induced a significant alteration of lipid species and content in BAT and improvement in overall lipid metabolism. Apart from biogenesis and thermogenesis, the categories and morphology of mitochondria were also significantly altered. Though obese mice have inactivated BAT with impaired mitochondria, the superior effect caused by BAT activation on obese mice than control mice indicated the great potential to be evoked. Anionic redox chemistry is now viewed as the effective paradigm of improving the capacity of layered oxide materials in Sodium‐ion battery. In this study, O3‐type layered oxide NaLi0.18Co0.23Ru0.59O2 (NLCR) with O redox ability is successfully synthesized via a facile solid‐state synthesis method. By manipulating the calcinate atmosphere with air and argon (sort by NLCR‐Air NLCR‐Ar respectively), a large amount of O vacancy is introduced in the NLCR‐Air cathode. NLCR‐Air with sufficient O vacancy exhibited superior rate performance which showed 87.7% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 20 C. Both NLCR‐Air and NLCR‐Ar showed activation of O redox properties which is supported by the soft X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (sXAS). Nevertheless, the in‐situ X‐ray diffraction and sXAS studies disclosed the O vacancy can promote the reversible phase transition and effectively suppress the irreversible O redox upon cycling. These are further supported by theoretical study which suggested a fast kinetic of Na diffusion and less electron agglomeration around the O atom for NLCR‐Air with O vacancy.The research proposed a modification strategy with extraordinary reversible O redox property within O3‐type layered cathode and offered a novel insight into understanding the anionic redox mechanism thus provide guidance of material design advanced energy storage systems. The photocatalytic reduction of CO2 represents an environmentally friendly and sustainable approach for generating valuable chemicals. In this study, a thiophene‐modified highly conjugated asymmetric covalent triazine framework (As‐CTF‐S) is developed for this purpose. Significantly, single‐component intramolecular energy transfer can enhance the photogenerated charge separation, leading to the efficient conversion of CO2 to CO during photocatalysis. As a result, without the need for additional photosensitizers or organic sacrificial agents, As‐CTF‐S demonstrates the highest photocatalytic ability of 353.2 µmol g−1 and achieves a selectivity of ≈99.95% within a 4 h period under visible light irradiation. This study provides molecular insights into the rational control of charge transfer pathways for high‐efficiency CO2 photoreduction using single‐component organic semiconductor catalysts. Summary: Fermented vegetables are nutritionally beneficial and promote good health. China possesses abundant raw vegetable materials and has a longstanding history of fermented vegetable production. However, the traditional process of vegetable fermentation heavily relies on individual producers' experience and knowledge, resulting in inconsistent flavours, variable quality, and the potential generation of harmful substances. The utilisation of lactic acid fermentation starters can effectively inhibit pathogenic bacteria during the fermentation process, enhance product flavour, reduce nitrite production, improve functional and nutritional value, as well as extend shelf‐life. This article comprehensively reviews factors influencing vegetable fermentation; diverse functions performed by lactic acid bacteria throughout the fermentation process and assesses the current industrialisation status of vegetable fermentation in China. Redox‐active materials that exhibit both electrochromism and electrofluorochromism have great potential as multifunctional elements in optoelectronics. Here, in situ spectroelectrochemistry is presented on NU‐1000, a zirconium pyrenetetrabenzoate metal–organic framework. A thin film of NU‐1000 exhibits reversible color changes between light yellow and dark blue when subjected to an alternating electrochemical potential. In situ fluorescence excitation‐emission spectral mapping elucidates a dominant blue emission of highly fluorescent electrochromic NU‐1000 that is being quenched via an oxidation reaction. Density‐functional theory calculations reveal the forbidden optical transition between the singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) in the oxidized linker as the cause of the quenching. Double potential step chronoamperometry measures response times as fast as a dozen seconds and excellent switching stability over 500 cycles without noticeable attenuation of the color contrast. These findings provide valuable insight into the electrochromism and electrofluorochromism in metal–organic frameworks, offering exciting opportunities for developing advanced multifunctional porous materials with potential applications in optoelectronics and sensing. Guangzhou has been the city most affected by the dengue virus (DENV) in China, with a predominance of DENV serotype 1 (DENV‐1). Viral factors such as dengue serotype and genotype are associated with severe dengue (SD). However, none of the studies have investigated the relationship between DENV‐1 genotypes and SD. To understand the association between DENV‐1 genotypes and SD, the clinical manifestations of patients infected with different genotypes were investigated. A total of 122 patients with confirmed DENV‐1 genotype infection were recruited for this study. The clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, and levels of inflammatory mediator factors were statistically analyzed to investigate the characteristics of clinical manifestations and immune response on the DENV‐1 genotype. In the case of DENV‐1 infection, the incidence of SD with genotype V infection was significantly higher than that with genotype I infection. Meanwhile, patients infected with genotype V were more common in ostealgia and bleeding significantly. In addition, levels of inflammatory mediator factors including IFN‐γ, TNF‐α, IL‐10, and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 were higher in patients with SD infected with genotype V. Meanwhile, the concentrations of regulated upon activation normal T‐cell expressed and secreted and growth‐related gene alpha were lower in patients with SD infected with genotype V. The higher incidence of SD in patients infected with DENV‐1 genotype V may be attributed to elevated cytokines and adhesion molecules, along with decreased chemokines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Delirium is the most common neurological complication after cardiac surgery with adverse impacts on surgical outcomes. Advanced age is an independent risk factor for delirium occurrence but its underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Although increased A1 astrocytes and abnormal hippocampal networks are involved in neurodegenerative diseases, whether A1 astrocytes and hippocampal network changes are involved in the delirium‐like behavior of aged mice remains unknown. In the present study, a mice model of myocardial ischemia–reperfusion mimicking cardiac surgery and various assessments were used to investigate the different susceptibility of the occurrence of delirium‐like behavior between young and aged mice and the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that surgery significantly increased hippocampal A1 astrocyte activation in aged compared to young mice. The high neuroinflammatory state induced by surgery resulted in glutamate accumulation in the extrasynaptic space, which subsequently decreased the excitability of pyramidal neurons and increased the PV interneurons inhibition through enhancing N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate receptors' tonic currents in the hippocampus. These further induced the abnormal activities of the hippocampal neural networks and consequently contributed to delirium‐like behavior in aged mice. Notably, the intraperitoneal administration of exendin‐4, a glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonist, downregulated A1 astrocyte activation and alleviated delirium‐like behavior in aged mice, while IL‐1α, TNF‐α, and C1q in combination administered intracerebroventricularly upregulated A1 astrocyte activation and induced delirium‐like behavior in young mice. Therefore, our study suggested that cardiac surgery increased A1 astrocyte activation which subsequently impaired the hippocampal neural networks and triggered delirium development. In recent years anatomical pathology has been revolutionised by the incorporation of molecular findings into routine diagnostic practice, and in some diseases the presence of specific molecular alterations are now essential for diagnosis. Spatial transcriptomics describes a group of technologies that provide up to transcriptome‐wide expression profiling while preserving the spatial origin of the data, with many of these technologies able to provide these data using a single tissue section. Spatial transcriptomics allows expression profiling of highly specific areas within a tissue section potentially to subcellular resolution, and allows correlation of expression data with morphology, tissue type and location relative to other structures. While largely still research laboratory‐based, several spatial transcriptomics methods have now achieved compatibility with formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded tissue (FFPE), allowing their use in diagnostic tissue samples, and with further development potentially leading to their incorporation in routine anatomical pathology practice. This mini review provides an overview of spatial transcriptomics methods, with an emphasis on platforms compatible with FFPE tissue, approaches to assess the data and potential applications in anatomical pathology practice. BACKGROUND: Chlorantraniliprole (CAP) is a diamide insecticide with high efficacy against many pest insects, including the black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon. Agrotis ipsilon is a serious pest causing significant yield losses in crops. Glutathione‐S‐transferases (GSTs) belong to a family of metabolic enzymes that can detoxify a wide range of pesticides. However, little is known about the functions of GSTs in CAP tolerance in A. ipsilon. RESULTS: A cDNA sequence (designated AiGSTu1) encoding an unclassified GST was identified from A. ipsilon. AiGSTu1 is highly expressed during the 3rd‐instar larval and the pupal stages. Most of the mRNA transcripts were found in larval Malpighian tubules. Exposure to CAP strongly enhanced AiGSTu1 expression, GST activity, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde levels in larvae. H2O2 treatment upregulated the transcription level of AiGSTu1, suggesting that CAP‐induced oxidative stress may activate AiGSTu1 expression. The activity of recombinant AiGSTu1 was inhibited by CAP in a dose‐dependent manner. Metabolism assay results demonstrated that AiGSTu1 is capable of depleting CAP. Overexpression of AiGSTu1 enhanced the tolerance of Escherichia coli cells to H2O2 and the oxidative stress inducer, cumene hydroperoxide. Silencing of AiGSTu1 by RNA interference increased the susceptibility of A. ipsilon larvae to CAP. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the potential role of AiGSTu1 in CAP detoxification and will improve our understanding of CAP tolerance in A. ipsilon. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry. Subduction initiation in oceans is key to understanding regional and global plate tectonics and ocean basin dynamics; however, its genetic mechanism is still enigmatic. The most famous model that predicts intraoceanic subduction initiation along transform faults or fracture zones (i.e., the Subduction Initiation Rule) has been widely used to explain arc‐like geochemical signatures within the Neo‐Tethyan ophiolites, but fails to account for the speculation and/or calculation of a sub‐parallel relationship between the Jurassic subduction zones and paleo ridges of the western Neo‐Tethys. Here, we propose a ridge‐parallel detachment fault‐hosted subduction re‐initiation model for the Jurassic western Neo‐Tethys. Based on field geological and geochemical evidence, we show that the Refahiye ophiolite in the İzmir–Ankara–Erzincan suture of northern Turkey has diagnostic characteristics indicative of (ultra)slow seafloor spreading. An (ultra)slow‐spreading nature also characterizes many Neo‐Tethyan ophiolites from the Alps to Southeast Asia, either at mid‐ocean ridges or in suprasubduction zones. Due to its extremely weak nature, detachment faults were probably a key candidate for the Jurassic intraoceanic subduction re‐initiation of the western Neo‐Tethys in response to far‐field compression after its long‐lived northward subduction. This model is applicable to both the Jurassic and Early Cretaceous ophiolites, but is questionable for the Late Cretaceous ophiolites. Its utility deponds on the kinematics of ancient plate boundaries and compositions of ophiolites. The detachment fault‐hosted subduction re‐initiation model can explain the arc‐like geochemical features of the Jurassic western Neo‐Tethyan ophiolites, but its effect on the structure and component of ophiolites is diverse. Plain Language Summary: Subduction of oceans is key to understanding regional and global plate tectonics. However, where and how ocean subduction initiates (i.e., subduction initiation) is still enigmatic, in particular for those vanished oceans in Earth's geologic history. In this study, we propose a new model of ridge‐parallel detachment fault‐hosted subduction re‐initiation for the western Neo‐Tethys Ocean in the Jurassic. Based on this study and a global compilation, we show that the ophiolites along the Neo‐Tethyan orogenic belt commonly contain slow‐ and ultraslow‐spreading oceanic lithospheres, either formed at mid‐ocean ridges or in suprasubduction zones. As for the western Neo‐Tethys, detachment faults adjacent to the paleoridges may have served as key candidates for subduction re‐initiation after the long‐lived northward subduction in the early stage, rather than along transform faults or fracture zones as previously suggested. This new model provides alternative explanations for the geochemical and structural diversities of the western Neo‐Tethyan ophiolites, and its utility in global ophiolites needs further examination. Compared with individuals with hearing loss, tinnitus patients without hearing loss have more psychological or emotional problems. Tinnitus is closely associated to abnormal metabolism and function of the limbic system, a key brain region for emotion experience, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains unknown. Using whole‐brain microvasculature dynamics imaging, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is identified as a key brain region of limbic system involve in the onset of salicylate‐induced tinnitus in mice. In the tinnitus group, there is enhanced purine metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, and a distinct pattern of phosphorylation in glutamatergic synaptic pathway according to the metabolome profiles, quantitative proteomic, and phosphoproteomic data of mice ACC tissue. Electroencephalogram in tinnitus patients with normal hearing thresholds show that the functional connectivity between pregenual anterior cingulate cortex and the primary auditory cortex is significantly increased for high‐gamma frequency band, which is positively correlated with the serum glutamate level. These findings indicate that ACC plays an important role in the pathophysiology of tinnitus by interacting with the primary auditory cortex and provide potential molecular targets in the ACC for tinnitus treatment. Carbon‐centered radicals stabilized by adjacent boron atoms are underexplored reaction intermediates in organic synthesis. This study reports the development of vinyl cyclopropyl diborons (VCPDBs) as a versatile source of previously unknown homoallylic α,α‐diboryl radicals via thiyl radical catalyzed diboron‐directed ring opening. These diboryl stabilized radicals underwent smooth [3+2] cycloaddition with a variety of olefins to provide diboryl cyclopentanes in good to excellent diastereoselectivity. In contrast to the trans‐diastereoselectivity observed with most of the dicarbonyl activated VCPs, the cycloaddition of VCPDBs showed a remarkable preference for formation of cis‐cyclopentane diastereomer which was confirmed by quantitative NOE and 2D NOESY studies. The cis‐stereochemistry of cyclopentane products enabled a concise intramolecular Heck reaction approach to rare tricyclic cyclopentanoid framework containing the diboron group. The mild reaction conditions also allowed a one‐pot VCP ring‐opening, cycloaddition‐oxidation sequence to afford disubstituted cyclopentanones. Control experiments and DFT analysis of reaction mechanism support a radical mediated pathway and provide a rationale for the observed diastereoselectivity. Aims: Sevoflurane is widely used for general anesthesia in children. Previous studies reported that multiple neonatal exposures to sevoflurane can induce long‐term cognitive impairment in adolescent rats, but the underlying mechanisms were not defined. Methods: Postnatal day 6 (P6) to P8 rat pups were exposed to 30% oxygen with or without 3% sevoflurane balanced with air. The Y maze test (YMT) and Morris water maze (MWM) tests were performed in some cohorts from age P35 to assess cognitive functions, and their brain samples were harvested at age P14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 for measurements of various molecular entities and in vivo electrophysiology experiments at age P35. Results: Sevoflurane exposure resulted in cognitive impairment that was associated with decreased synCAM1 expression in parvalbumin (PV) interneurons, a reduction of PV phenotype, disturbed gamma oscillations, and dendritic spine loss in the hippocampal CA3 region. Enriched environment (EE) increased synCAM1 expression in the PV interneurons and attenuated sevoflurane‐induced cognitive impairment. The synCAM1 overexpression by the adeno‐associated virus vector in the hippocampal CA3 region restored sevoflurane‐induced cognitive impairment, PV phenotype loss, gamma oscillations decrease, and dendritic spine loss. Conclusion: Our data suggested that neonatal sevoflurane exposure results in cognitive impairment through decreased synCAM1 expression in PV interneurons in the hippocampus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gut microbiome is integral to the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis. A novel probiotic Lactobacillus intestinalis (L. intestinalis) exerts a protective effect against dextran sodium sulfate‐induced colitis in mice. Based on flow cytometry, colitis‐associated Th17 cells are the target of L. intestinalis, which is supported by the lack of protective effects of L. intestinalis in T cell‐null Rag1−/− mice or upon anti‐IL‐17‐A antibody‐treated mice. Although L. intestinalis exerts no direct effect on T cell differentiation, it decreases C/EBPA‐driven gut epithelial SAA1 and SAA2 production, which in turn impairs Th17 cell differentiation. Cometabolism of L. intestinalis ALDH and host ALDH1A2 contributed to elevated biosynthesis of retinoic acid (RA), which accounts for the anti‐colitis effect in RAR‐α ‐mediated way. In a cohort of ulcerative colitis patients, it is observed that fecal abundance of L. intestinalis is negatively associated with the C/EBPA‐SAA1/2‐Th17 axis. Finally, L. intestinalis has a synergistic effect with mesalazine in alleviating murine colitis. In conclusion, L. intestinalis and associated metabolites, RA, have potential therapeutic effects for suppressing colonic inflammation by modulating the crosstalk between intestinal epithelia and immunity. Summary: Properties of a cell can determine its deformations, which can aggravate cancer metastasis. In laboratory, microfluidic technology has been adopted to study cell deformations. However, quantifying the effects of cell deformations has remained difficult. To this end, this paper presents a two‐dimensional particle‐based model that can capture flow‐induced cell deformations in a microchannel. The numerical model is validated with an experimental dataset for MCF7 cell. The simulations show that cell deformations are dominantly attributed to flow acceleration. Stress analyses, conducted by inputting the simulated cell deformations as boundary conditions, show that the maximum normal stresses correspond well to high deformations. Shear stress is in general proportional to the cell's distance from a wall. The simulations also suggest a deformed cell shape that apparently may reduce the average normal stresses. A pulsed laser annealing method is utilized to directly synthesize nickel silicide (NiSi) as a contact material to improve the contact of electric devices. Three laser wavelengths, 355 nm (ultraviolet laser), 532 nm (green laser), and 1064 nm (infrared laser), are used for the NiSi synthesis during the pulsed laser annealing process. A NiSi phase with low sheet resistance is formed by an ultraviolet laser annealing (ULA) process without damaging the polyimide (PI) substrate. With the integration of the ULA process‐induced NiSi into p‐nnel MOSFET (PMOS) and n‐channel MOSFET (NMOS) devices, the on/off ratio improves significantly, and the field‐effect mobility increases by 30% because of the reduction in contact resistance from 21 to 8.5 kΩ. In addition to the PMOS and NMOS, the gains of the CMOS inverter at different Vdd values are improved by at least 30%. Moreover, the static noise margin of 6T‐SRAM is elevated from 0.82 to 1 V at Vdd = 4 V. The ability of the ULA process to synthesize a high‐quality NiSi layer on a flexible substrate is demonstrated. 2‐oxo‐4‐[(hydroxy)(methyl)phosphinoyl]butyric acid (PPO) is the essential precursor keto acid for the asymmetric biosynthesis of herbicide l‐phosphinothricin (l‐PPT). Developing a biocatalytic cascade for PPO production with high efficiency and low cost is highly desired. Herein, a d‐amino acid aminotransferase from Bacillus sp. YM‐1 (Ym DAAT) with high activity (48.95 U/mg) and affinity (Km = 27.49 mM) toward d‐PPT was evaluated. To circumvent the inhibition of by‐product d‐glutamate (d‐Glu), an amino acceptor (α‐ketoglutarate) regeneration cascade was constructed as a recombinant Escherichia coli (E. coli D), by coupling Ymd‐AAT, d‐aspartate oxidase from Thermomyces dupontii (TdDDO) and catalase from Geobacillus sp. CHB1. Moreover, the regulation of the ribosome binding site was employed to overcome the limiting step of expression toxic protein TdDDO in E. coli BL21(DE3). The aminotransferase‐driven whole‐cell biocatalytic cascade (E. coli D) showed superior catalytic efficiency for the synthesis of PPO from d,l‐phosphinothricin (d,l‐PPT). It revealed the production of PPO exhibited high space–time yield (2.59 g L−1 h−1) with complete conversion of d‐PPT to PPO at high substrate concentration (600 mM d,l‐PPT) in 1.5 L reaction system. In recent years, layered oxides have been extensively studied as promising cathode materials for sodium ion batteries. However, layered oxides undergo complex phase transitions during charge‐discharge process, which adversely affects the electrochemical performance. High‐entropy layered oxides as a unique design concept can effectively improve the cycling performance of cathode materials by virtue of the 2D ion migration channels between the layers. Based on the concepts of high‐entropy and layered oxides, this paper reviews the research status of high‐entropy layered oxides in the field of sodium‐ion batteries, focusing on the connection between high‐entropy and layered oxide phase transitions during electrochemical charging and discharging. Finally, the advantages of layered cathode materials based high‐entropy are summarized, and the opportunities and challenges of future high‐entropy layered materials are proposed. Polyanionic material, specifically the NASICON‐type material, is considered a promising cathode material for Na‐ion batteries (SIBs) because of its stable structure and high operating voltage. Further, it improves the energy density correlated with the well utilization of all Na in the compound. For Na3V2(PO4)2F3 (NVPF), the extraction of the third Na, reported as the electrochemical inactivated, can be realized at a high voltage region while forming an irreversible tetragonal phase. In this study, we introduce Ti doping to the Na2VTi(PO4)2F3 (NVTPF) material; we reveal that the Ti‐doped NVTPF could effectively suppress the irreversible phase transformation, thus successfully harnessing Na in a wide voltage range. Experimental study discloses that the Ti‐substituted Na2VTi(PO4)2F3 could take up the Na+ from Amam phase to Cmc21 phase between 1.0 V and 4.8 V reversibly accounting for the 2 Na+ transportation that shows favorable Na+ kinetics and structural stability. Our research provides the strategy to stabilize the polyanion structure upon charging at a high voltage range and inspires the utilization of full sodium in the polyanionic materials, which could be considered as a material design for future conventional applications. Dracocephalum Moldavica L. is a traditional herb for improving pharynx and relieving cough. However, the effect on pulmonary fibrosis is not clear. In this study, we explored the impact and molecular mechanism of total flavonoid extract from Dracocephalum moldavica L. (TFDM) on bleomycin‐induced pulmonary fibrosis mouse model. Lung function testing, lung inflammation and fibrosis, and the related factors were detected by the lung function analysis system, HE and Masson staining, ELISA, respectively. The expression of proteins was studied through Western Blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence while the expression of genes was analyzed by RT‐PCR. The results showed that TFDM significantly improved lung function in mice, reduced the content of inflammatory factors, thereby reducing the inflammation. It was found that expression of collagen type I, fibronectin, and α‐smooth muscle actin was significantly decreased by TFDM. The results further showed that TFDM interferes with hedgehog signaling pathway by decreasing the expression of Shh, Ptch1, and SMO proteins and thereby inhibiting the generation of downstream target gene Gli1 and thus improving pulmonary fibrosis. Objective: Non‐utilization of dental care during adolescence can result in poorer oral health and subsequently higher expenditures on dental services. This study examined the geospatial and epidemiological factors associated with utilization of the publicly funded Adolescent Oral Health Services (AOHS) in Canterbury, Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ). Methods: A secondary analysis of prospectively collected routine data from AOHS visits of adolescents in school Year 9 (13–14 years) for the financial year 2019–2020. Geographic information systems examined distance from home to dental practices. Multilevel mixed‐effects Poisson regression models investigated associations between geospatial, demographic and clinical factors and non‐utilization of dental services. Models were adjusted for sex, ethnicity, area‐level deprivation, rural/urban classification, previous caries experience and the distance from home address to dental practice referred. Results: Dental practices were concentrated in large urban areas and in the least deprived neighbourhoods, with several service area gaps identified. Rural areas and the most deprived areas of Christchurch City had the highest non‐utilization rates. After adjustment, adolescents residing in the most deprived areas had a higher risk of non‐utilization (adjusted risk ratio [aRR] = 1.38; 95% CI 1.26–1.51) compared to adolescents in the least deprived areas. Adolescents in remote areas also had an increased risk of non‐utilization (aRR = 1.36; 95% CI 1.20–1.54) compared to adolescents in urban core areas. Finally, Māori (aRR = 1.37; 95% CI 1.29–1.46) and Pasifika (aRR = 1.46; 95% CI 1.35–1.59) adolescents had significantly higher risks of non‐utilization compared to their NZ European counterparts. Conclusion: Inequitable utilization of dental services exists among adolescents in Canterbury, NZ, and is associated with Māori, Pasifika and those living in rural and most deprived areas. Adolescents at the greatest oral health risk are geographically underserved by current oral health services. To analyse the computed tomography (CT) images of spiral neuron T‐type calcification channels and the mechanism of action in patients with sudden deafness in the elderly, the artificial intelligence (edge algorithm) algorithm was applied to the embedded system to analyse the CT images of the sudden deafness of the elderly, and then the mechanism of the spiral neuron T‐calcification channel was studied. The results showed that among the 48 patients with labyrinthitis, 26 were acute labyrinthitis, 14 were chronic labyrinthitis, and 8 were sclerosing labyrinthitis. α1G, α1H, and α1I were expressed on the cochlea and spiral neurons in the 66–68‐year‐old population, but the expression levels were significantly different. The expression of the three receptors on spiral neurons was slightly higher than that of the cochlea. α1H was most expressed on spiral neurons compared with the other two calcium channel receptors (p < 0.05). In addition, the minimum intensity projection method, multi‐layer reconstruction method, and surface reconstruction method can fully display the bony labyrinth, cochlea, cochlear duct (2.5 weeks), and shape and edge damage. In summary, the adoption of artificial intelligence algorithms based on embedded systems to analyse CT images can comprehensively and accurately reflect the three‐dimensional structure of the inner surface of the inner ear labyrinth. It can also fully display the scope, shape, density, and edge of the lesion. Exploring high‐safety but convenient encryption and decryption technologies to combat threats of information leakage is urgently needed but remains a great challenge. Here, a synergistically time‐ and temperature‐resolved information coding/decoding solution based on functional photonic inks is demonstrated. Encrypted messages can be stored into multiple channels with dynamic‐color patterns, and information decryption is only enabled at appointed temperature and time points. Notably, the ink can be easily processed into quick‐response codes and multipixel plates. With high transparency and responsive color variations controlled by ink compositions and ambient temperatures, advanced 3D stacking multichannel coding and Morse coding techniques can be applied for multi‐information storage, complex anticounterfeiting, and information interference. The regulation of dendritic spine morphology is a critical aspect of neuronal network refinement during development and modulation of neurotransmission. Previous studies revealed that glutamatergic transmission plays a central role in synapse development. AMPA receptors and NMDA receptors regulate spine morphology in an activity dependent manner. However, whether and how Kainate receptors (KARs) regulate synapse development remains poorly understood. In this study, we found that GluK1 and GluK2 may play distinct roles in synapse development. In primary cultured hippocampal neurons, we found overexpression of the calcium‐permeable GluK2(Q) receptor variant increased spine length and spine head area compared to overexpression of the calcium‐impermeable GluK2(R) variant or EGFP transfected, control neurons, indicating that Q/R editing may play a role in GluK2 regulation of synapse development. Intriguingly, neurons transfected with GluK1(Q) showed decreased spine length and spine head area, while the density of dendritic spines was increased, suggesting that GluK1(Q) and GluK2(Q) have different effects on synaptic development. Swapping the critical domains between GluK2 and GluK1 demonstrated the N‐terminal domain (NTD) is responsible for the different effects of GluK1 and GluK2. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is a common cancer in humans and is the second major type of skin cancer that causes death in humans. In this article, we investigated the effects of alkannin on CSCC progression. We revealed that alkannin curbed CSCC cell viability in a dose‐dependent manner and accelerated CSCC cell apoptosis. In addition, alkannin expedited macrophage M1 polarization while curbing M2 polarization. Moreover, alkannin elevated phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) abundance in CSCC cells. The results of bioinformatics analysis revealed that alkannin might modulate CSCC via PTEN. Downregulation of PTEN reversed the effects of alkannin on apoptosis of CSCC cells and M1/M2 polarization of macrophages. Alkannin reduced CSCC tumor growth in a mouse xenograft model. In conclusion, alkannin curbed the advancement of CSCC by expediting apoptosis and facilitating M1 polarization of macrophages by upregulating PTEN. Smoking and alcohol consumption are associated with bladder cancer risk in observational studies. We conducted a two‐sample univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to determine whether those associations are causal. We used 21, 126, 360, 39 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) as instrumental variables for number of cigarettes per day, lifetime smoking index, smoking initiation, and drinks per week, respectively. A total of 1115 cases with bladder cancer and 174 006 noncases from FinnGen consortium and 2883 cases with bladder cancer and 417 955 noncases from UK Biobank study were obtained. Genetic predisposition to cigarettes per day, lifetime smoking index and smoking initiation were positively associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer in both the FinnGen and UK Biobank consortium. The summary odds ratio (OR) of bladder cancer was 1.79 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.31‐2.45; P =.0002), 2.38 (95% CI, 1.45‐3.88; P =.0005) and 1.91 (95% CI, 1.46‐2.50; P = 1.59 × 10−06) for one SD increase in the number of cigarettes per day, lifetime smoking index and smoking initiation, respectively. The genetically instrumented number of drinks per week was not associated with bladder cancer (OR = 0.69; 95% CI, 0.44‐1.10; P =.1237). Estimates were consistent in multivariable MR analyses by the adjustments of body mass index and education. Owing to the complex anatomical structure and biomechanics, the current standard palliative treatments for cervical spinal metastases are associated with a high risk of recurrence and complications. Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) can provide radical dose to tumors while protecting normal organs to the maximum extent. However, the efficacy and safety of SBRT for cervical spinal metastases is not well characterized. Data from 71 patients with cervical spine metastases who were treated with SBRT using CyberKnife between 2006 and 2021 were obtained from our prospectively maintained database. Primary endpoint was pain response at 12 weeks following SBRT completion; secondary endpoints included local control (LC), overall survival (OS), and adverse events. Standard‐risk patients were planned to receive 30 Gy (range 21–36) with median fractions of 3 (range 1–3) and high‐risk patients 35 Gy (range 24–50) with median fractions of 5 (range 4–5) according to the spinal cord and esophagus dose constraints. The median follow‐up time was 17.07 months (range 3.1–118.9). After 12 weeks of SBRT completion, 54 (98.2%) of 55 patients with baseline pain achieved pain response and 46 (83.6%) achieved complete pain response. LC rates were 93.1% and 90% at 1 year and 2 year, respectively. The 1‐year and 2‐year OS rates were 66.2% and 37.4%, respectively. Eight patients experienced grades 1–4 adverse events (six vertebral compression fracture [VCF], five of them had VCF before SBRT; and two hemiparesis). No grade 5 adverse events were observed. (1 − x)CaTiO3–xLa(Mg2/3Nb1/3)O3 (CT–LMN; x = 0–1.0) solid solutions were prepared by a solid‐state reaction method. A phase transition from a disordered orthorhombic (Pbnm) structure to a 1:1 ordered monoclinic (P21/n) structure was observed when x increased from 0.5 to 0.6. Some new parameters, such as ionic polarizability in a polyhedron and ionic packing fraction in a polyhedron, were defined to explain the structure–property relationships of CT–LMN ceramics based on the Rietveld refinement results. The measured dielectric constant (εr‐mea) decreased monotonically with B‐site ionic polarizability in the [BO6] octahedron (αDT(B)/V[B]$\alpha _{\rm{D}}^{\rm{T}}({\rm{B}})/{V_{[ {\rm{B}} ]}}$) when the x value increased from 0 to 1.0. The quality factor (Qf) was dominated by the packing fraction of B‐site cations in the [BO6] octahedron (PF[B]), and both presented an increasing trend. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf) decreased from +588.5 to −79.7 ppm/°C, and it was highly correlated to the tolerance factor (t), αDT(B)/αDT(B)V[B]V[B]${{\alpha _D^T({\rm{B}})} \mathord{/ {\vphantom {{\alpha _D^T({\rm{B}})} {{V_{[ {\rm{B}} ]}}}}} \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {{V_{[ {\rm{B}} ]}}}}$ and PF[B]. The highest Qf value is obtained at x = 1.0 when sintered at 1600°C for 10 h with εr = 23.65 ± 0.2, Qf = 33517 ± 2000 GHz (@7.8 GHz), and τf = −79.7 ± 2.0 ppm/°C. HNO has broad chemical and biomedical properties. Metal complexes and derivatives are widely used to make excellent HNO sensors. However, their favorable mechanistic origins are largely unknown. Cu cyclam is a useful platform to make excellent HNO sensors including imaging agents. A quantum chemical study of Cu cyclams with various substitutions was performed, which reproduced diverse experimental reactivities. Structural, electronic, and energetic profiles along reaction pathways show the importance of HNO binding and a proton‐coupled electron transfer mechanism for HNO reaction. Results reveal that steric effect is primary and electronic factor is secondary (if the redox potential is sufficient), but their interwoven effects can lead to unexpected reactivity, which looks mysterious experimentally but can be explained computationally. Establishment and survival of plant species in systems with dominant environmental drivers (i.e. factors that exert disproportionate control over species establishment and survival) is often thought to be dominated by one master variable. In forested wetlands such as mangroves, hydrology is typically considered the dominant limiting driver. At the same time, light is a major driver of plant community dynamics, with some of the best understood plant life‐history tradeoffs related to fast growth under high‐light conditions versus survival under low‐light conditions. Yet light is given relatively limited consideration in mangrove research compared to other drivers. Understanding the relative importance of abiotic drivers for seedling survival is crucial for effective management and restoration of mangrove ecosystems. Despite increasing global efforts to plant mangrove propagules at elevations appropriate for the hydrologic conditions needed at early life history stages, restoration efforts report low survival of planted propagules. Although many studies have made considerable progress to characterize the abiotic limitations of mangrove propagule establishment, fewer studies have addressed multiple abiotic drivers that limit the survival of the established seedling stage. We characterized the light and inundation conditions of more than 900 naturally established mangrove seedlings and monitored the survival of more than 2,800 seedlings (including 16 species) located on a species‐rich island in tropical Southeast Asia for 1 year. Our findings suggest that light has a stronger effect than hydrology on survival following seedling establishment. One of the hallmarks of plant senescence is the global transcriptional reprogramming coordinated by a plethora of transcription factors (TFs). However, mechanisms underlying the interactions between different TFs in modulating senescence remain obscure. Previously, we discovered that plant ABS3 subfamily MATE transporter genes regulate senescence and senescence‐associated transcriptional changes. In a genetic screen for mutants suppressing the accelerated senescence phenotype of the gain‐of‐function mutant abs3‐1D, AUXIN RESPONSE FACTOR 2 (ARF2) and PHYTOCHROME‐INTERACTING FACTOR 5 (PIF5) were identified as key TFs responsible for transcriptional regulation in the ABS3‐mediated senescence pathway. ARF2 and PIF5 (as well as PIF4) interact directly and function interdependently to promote senescence, and they share common target genes such as key senescence promoting genes ORESARA 1 (ORE1) and STAY‐GREEN 1 (SGR1) in the ABS3‐mediated senescence pathway. In addition, we discovered reciprocal regulation between ABS3‐subfamily MATEs and the ARF2 and PIF5/4 TFs. Taken together, our findings reveal a regulatory paradigm in which the ARF2‐PIF5/4 functional module facilitates the transcriptional reprogramming in the ABS3‐mediated senescence pathway. Background: Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD‐1) blockade plus radiotherapy may be a promising strategy to improve the prognosis of patients with metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the optimum combined scheme, treatment time of radiotherapy, and irradiated lesion have not been fully determined. Methods: A total of 321 metastatic NSCLC patients treated with immunotherapy were identified. Among them, 107 patients received PD‐1/PD‐ligand 1 (PD‐L1) inhibitors with radiotherapy, while the remaining cases did not receive radiotherapy. Data on overall survival (OS), progression‐free survival (PFS), treatment response and adverse events were collected. Comparisons based on type of radiation, timing of radiotherapy and number of irradiated lesions were performed. Results: The median OS in PD‐1/PD‐L1 inhibitors plus radiotherapy was longer than in nonradiotherapy (22.8 vs. 16.6 months, p = 0.022). The median PFS showed a similar trend in this study (9.4 vs. 6.2 months, p = 0.042). Moreover, the combined strategy demonstrated a superior disease control rate and abscopal control rate versus without radiotherapy (both p ≤ 0.001). Further multivariate analysis in the immunotherapy and radiotherapy groups revealed that age below 65 (p = 0.004), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance scores of 0–1 (p = 0.001), oligometastasis (p = 0.006), concurrent combination (p = 0.002), and treated with SRT (p = 0.013) were associated with longer OS. There was a similar incidence of adverse events between the two groups (both p ≥ 0.05). Conclusions: The combination of PD‐1/PD‐L1 inhibitors plus palliative radiotherapy demonstrated favorable survival and good tolerability in metastatic NSCLC patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To compare the treatment efficacy and safety of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and anti‐programmed cell death 1 (PD‐1) immunotherapy combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) or hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) for patients with unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Methods: Patients with unresectable ICC received TKIs and anti‐PD‐1 immunotherapy combined with HAIC (HTP group) or TACE (TTP group) were included. The clinicopathological characteristics, treatment efficacy, and adverse events (AEs) were compared between the two groups. The factors associated with response rate to the treatments were evaluated. Results: A total of 58 patients were enrolled, with 39 in the HTP group and 19 in the TTP group. Patients in the HTP group exhibited a better objective response rate (ORR; Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors [RECIST] 48.7% vs 15.8%, P = 0.02; modified RECIST [mRECIST] 61.5% vs 21.1%, P = 0.004) and disease control rate (DCR; 82.1% vs 36.8%, P = 0.001) compared to the TTP group. The median progression‐free survival (PFS) rate was not reached and the 1‐year PFS rate was 61.9% in the HTP group, whereas the median PFS was 11.0 months and the 1‐year PFS rate was 31.6% in the TTP group. The type of treatment and tumor size were significant factors for the response rate. More patients in the HTP group presented rash, abdominal pain and hand‐foot syndrome, but all AEs were relieved after symptomatic treatment, and no treatment‐related death occurred. Conclusions: For unresectable ICC, treatment with a combination of HAIC with TKIs and anti‐PD‐1 immunotherapy was effective and safe. 2,3,5,4'‐Tetrahydrostilbene‐2‐o‐β‐d‐glucoside (TSG) is the main active component of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. It has effects on hypertension. However, the mechanism is unclear. Current research is devoted to exploring the mechanism of TSG improving HHcy‐induced hypertension. The mice received a subcutaneous injection of Hcy in the presence or absence of TSG for 4 weeks. Blood pressure (BP) was measured using a noninvasive tail‐cuff plethysmography method. Levels of plasma Hcy and endothelin‐1 were measured using ELISA. Rat SMA without endothelium was cultured in a serum‐free medium in the presence or absence of TSG with or without Hcy. The contractile response to sarafotoxin 6c or endothein‐1 was studied using a sensitive myography. The levels of protein were detected using Western blotting. The results showed that TSG lowered HHcy‐elevated BP and decreased levels of plasma Hcy and endothelin‐1 in mice. Furthermore, the results showed that TSG inhibited Hcy‐upregulated ET receptor expression and ET receptor‐mediated contractile responses as well as the levels of p‐ERK1/2 and p‐p65 in SMA. In vivo results further validate the in vitro results. In conclusion, TSG can decrease the levels of plasma Hcy and ET‐1 and downregulate Hcy‐upregulated ET receptors in VSMCs by inhibiting the ERK1/2/NF‐κB/ETB2 pathway to lower the BP. BACKGROUND Rabbit meat is a good edible meat source with high nutritional values. Cooking has a significant impact on the edible properties, nutritional qualities and flavor characteristics of meat. Studying the effect of cooking methods on rabbit meat qualities could encourage more understanding and acceptance of rabbit meat by consumers, and could also provide some reference for rabbit meat processing. Therefore, the effects of boiling, sous‐vide cooking, steaming, microwaving, roasting, frying and pressure cooking on the edible, nutritive and volatile qualities of rabbit meat were investigated. RESULTS: The sous‐vide cooked rabbit meat sample showed higher moisture content, water‐holding capacity and lower cooking losses than other samples, but the results of roasted rabbit meat sample were the opposite, and scanning electron microscopy observations also verified the results. There was no significant difference in 2‐thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) value in the cooked samples except for roasting. Microwaving, roasting and frying exhibited stronger antioxidant activity than the other cooked samples after in vitro digestion. A total of 38 volatiles were identified in the cooked meat samples, and the samples were well divided into four groups by principal component analysis, and 13 volatiles were considered discriminatory variables for the cooked rabbit meat. CONCLUSION: The physicochemical characteristics of cooked meat differed significantly between the processing methods. Roasted meat showed lower TBARS value and stronger antioxidant activity after simulated digestion compared to the other meats. Sodium‐ion batteries, which are viewed as the alternative candidate for lithium‐ion batteries, are now receiving extensive attention in recent years. This is because of the earth's abundance, the widespread sodium resource, and the low cost of battery production. Despite tremendous effort has been made to improve the battery performance of sodium‐ion batteries, several serious problems hinder the large‐scale practical applications. These problems such as low energy density and efficiency, poor cycle life, and low charge/discharge rate are largely determined by fundamental mechanism issues of electrode materials that are not sufficiently understood yet. Therefore multiple techniques should be used to get an in‐depth understanding of material properties. In this review, a comprehensive overview of the material characterization technique is provided and hope it could improve the battery research for all the scientific researchers. Electron diffraction enables structure determination of organic small molecules using crystals that are too small for conventional X‐ray crystallography. However, because of uncertainties in the experimental parameters, notably the detector distance, the unit‐cell parameters and the geometry of the structural models are typically less accurate and precise compared with results obtained by X‐ray diffraction. Here, an iterative procedure to optimize the unit‐cell parameters obtained from electron diffraction using idealized restraints is proposed. The cell optimization routine has been implemented as part of the structure refinement, and a gradual improvement in lattice parameters and data quality is demonstrated. It is shown that cell optimization, optionally combined with geometrical corrections for any apparent detector distortions, benefits refinement of electron diffraction data in small‐molecule crystallography and leads to more accurate structural models. ZTM ceramics comprising of 0.75ZnAl2O4–0.25TiO2 and MgTiO3 at a ratio of 90:10 wt.% are widely used in the field of communication as filters and resonators owing to their excellent microwave dielectric properties. However, the development of such dielectrics with complex structures, as required by microwave devices, is difficult using traditional fabrication methods. In this study, ZTM microwave dielectric ceramics were prepared using the digital light processing (DLP) technology. The influence of the sintering temperature on the phase composition, microstructure, and microwave dielectric properties of ZTM ceramics was investigated. Results showed that with an increase in the sintering temperature, the dielectric constant (εr) and quality factor (Q × f) of ZTM ceramics initially increased owing to the increase in the density and diffusion of ions. However, when the sintering temperature was excessively high, the abnormal growth of crystal grains and micropores led to a decrease in εr and Q × f. The ZTM ceramics sintered at 1450°C exhibited the optimum microwave dielectric properties (εr = 12.99, Q × f = 69 245 GHz, τf = −9.50 ppm/°C) owing to the uniform microstructure and a high relative density of 95.02%.
