Abstract The common approach for libraries to preserve their paper-based collections from irreversible deterioration is by controlling quantitative parameters, such as temperature and relative humidity. Variations of these parameters for preventive conservation can be expressed by the "performance index" (PI) and the "amplitude index" (AI). Building envelope is the first filter of the external climate, buffering the external weather fluctuations and maintaining the building's indoor climate stable. Its shape, window areas and envelope materials are the most influential parameters. As they capture the relationship of a few geometric and physical variables with the building's performance, the envelope characteristics can be expressed as certain passive envelope indexes. This paper studies the relationship of certain passive envelope indexes and the preventive conservation indexes for books for several libraries and archives located in La Plata, Argentina. The results show the impact of every passive envelope index upon the preventive conservation indexes. The compactness, heaviness, adjacency to spaces and adjacency to ground have a positive linear correlation meanwhile transparency and global transmittance are parameters with a negative correlation. In general, the most influential parameter is the relative area adjacent to other spaces, followed by global transmittance, transparency, heaviness, relative area adjacent to ground and compactness. Much research has been focused on maintaining stable humidity conditions in buildings housing heritage collections while reducing energy use. Moisture buffering by collections themselves can have a marked effect on the stabilisation of relative humidity (RH), the key parameter for preservation. Modelling of moisture transport using COMSOL Multiphysics was applied to transform three-dimensional paper and wooden objects into their one-dimensional representations, without changing the moisture uptake and release characteristics. The results were coupled to the modelling of indoor microclimate and energy consumption in collection storage spaces with the use of WUFI ® Plus software. The study revealed the crucial impact of air exchange rate of the building on the stability of indoor RH and the humidification and dehumidification loads required to maintain it. In the adequately air-tight library store, a sizeable paper collection was found to reduce the RH fluctuations from ±9% to ±6% around the yearly average and the energy consumption due to the humidification and dehumidification load by 38% when compared with the empty space, for a high-quality climate control scenario. In turn, a wooden collection, occupying a realistic fraction of a museum store was not large enough to significantly narrow down the RH variations and reduce the energy consumption. Curtain wall systems stand out as a pivotal domain within the construction sector's endeavors towards energy efficiency and carbon mitigation. To refine the evaluation framework for carbon emissions within this industry, this paper explores the calculation and assessment method for building curtain walls. The article first reviews the current research status regarding carbon emissions from materials and the impact of curtain walls on buildings in the operational stage. Based on lifecycle theory, the carbon emissions from building curtain walls are divided into six stages: material acquisition, processing and production, installation and construction, transportation, use and maintenance, and dismantling. On this basis, this paper proposes a method for calculating carbon emissions from building curtain walls. Following that, a case study is conducted using a specific glass curtain wall project for illustrative analysis. The results indicate that the carbon emissions from the material acquisition stage constitute approximately 90% of the total, serving as the primary source of carbon emissions for glass curtain walls. Furthermore, the scientific application of photovoltaics can significantly reduce the carbon emission levels of building curtain walls. The building envelope is the interface between the external atmospheric conditions and the indoor environment. It contributes to approximately 60%-70% of the heating and cooling load. The building envelope constitutes walls, fenestrations, and roofs from which thermal transfer from the roof is significantly very high compared to walls in low-rise buildings. This research paper aims to provide recommendations for energy-efficient roof design considering roof form, material, and external coating suitable for various climate conditions of India. The paper's methodology consists of a literature review of related research papers, learnings from the roofing system of energy-efficient building case studies, and all possible energy-efficient roofing systems that would be simulated for energy efficiency and thermal comfort in five climate types of India. The expected outcome of this paper would be in the form of recommendations for roofing systems in different climate type and their potential for energy saving from the highest to the lowest. This research would be done in three stages viz, Step-1: Literature Review and case study of best practices: A review of the related literature and best practices examples would be done to formulate the maximum possible cases for the simulation. Step-2: The roofing systems, including building form, material (Thermal and insulation), and finishes (reflectance), would be simulated one by one for various climate types of India (composite, hot & dry, warm and humid, moderate and cold) to optimize energy efficiency and payback period. Step-3: Special roof types like Green roofs, cool roofs, Photovoltaic roofs, roof ponds, and the like are simulated and compared for their effectiveness in selected climate types. Based on the literature review, simulation results, and analysis, the recommendations are framed for energy-efficient roofing systems in the selected climate type with respect to heat transfer through the roof and thermal comfort. As people put forward higher demand for the effect and quality of building interior decoration, the attention to building energy-saving materials has become higher and higher. In recent years, there have been many researches on green building energy-saving technology, green building evaluation and other aspects, but there are relatively few researches on applying the concept of full life cycle cost to the performance analysis of new materials for building energy conservation and environmental protection. Considering the economic performance of buildings will help to save resources in the construction industry and reduce energy consumption. The so-called full life cycle optimization of energy-saving design of green buildings is to take the concept of full life cycle optimization as the most reference, fully coordinate all elements in the portfolio project, and ensure that the full life cycle cost of the building can be greatly reduced. To realize the energy-saving optimization of green buildings, it is necessary to ensure that it runs through the whole life cycle of the building, fully combine the life cycle cost with the building function, and systematically do the optimization work. The performance analysis model of building decoration energy-saving and environmental protection new materials based on the whole life cycle proposed in this paper can be used to analyse the various properties of various new materials. The experimental results show that the maximum error of the test results is 9.6%, the minimum error is 1.3%, and the average error is only 6.43%. This shows that the model built in this paper is reliable, and the calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental results, which can be used to analyse the performance of new building decoration energy-saving and environmental protection materials. The ideas and methods of solving the model established in this paper have important guiding significance, and can be used as a powerful reference tool for studying other solving methods. Buildings consume about 40% of the global energy. Therefore, the building sector plays a key role in achieving the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Various energy-saving technologies for buildings, such as building envelops, mechanical systems, and energy resources, have been developed to help to achieve zero- or even net-energy buildings while maintaining comfort and a healthy indoor environment. This Special Issue on building energy-saving technology was open to all contributors in the field of building engineering. The original experimental studies, numerical simulations, and reviews in all aspects of building energy utilization, management, and optimization have been considered. For this event, all of these topics were covered in the extensive submissions which were accepted, but interesting papers on other aspects of building energy efficiency were also received. The purpose of this editorial is to summarize the main research findings of the accepted papers in this Special Issue, including the energy-saving technologies involved in building envelops, mechanical systems, and occupant behaviors, and to identify a number of research questions and research directions. To accurately describe the thermal comfort of indoor occupant used to regulate heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is a key goal to reduce energy consumption in intelligent buildings. In this paper, we propose a noncontact measurement of occupant thermal discomfort behavior as an index of thermal comfort. The method takes the existing monitoring image data in the building as the input to infer the occupant thermal discomfort directly, which saves the cost because there is no need to install new sensors in the building and the occupant does not need to wear additional equipment. The framework combined three channels of body posture, motion and performance information to infer occupant thermal discomfort behavior, it consists of a human detection and crop module, a posture analysis module, an optical flow extraction module and a 3D convolutional neural network module. The three channels describe the actions from different perspectives, and the proposed method makes full use of the complementarity of the three modalities to identify the occupant's thermal discomfort behaviors. Sixteen postures related to thermal discomfort were identified through a questionnaire, and 14,800 video clips containing these postures were collected for experimental evaluation. The results demonstrate the superior performances of our approach to the state-of-the-art techniques. The current applications in the energy sector are based largely on fossil fuels which release greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. To face the issue of global warming, the energy sector has to transfer to and develop sustainable energy solutions that do not release carbon emissions. This is one of the primary motivators for the SDEWES conference as well as for this review, and previous ones, examining the most recent works based on sustainable and green energy production in such fields. The 17th Conference on the Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environment Systems (SDEWES) was held on 6–10 November 2022 in Paphos, Cyprus. The SDEWES conference aims at solving complex and ongoing concerns that approach a long-term perspective and supporting innovative solutions and continuous monitoring and evaluation. This review paper aims at collecting the main presented papers focused on the following hot topics: low-carbon technologies based on renewable and clean-energy systems, including mainly biomass, solar, and wind energy applications; energy storage systems; hydrogen-based systems; energy-saving strategies in buildings; and the adoption of smart management strategies using renewable energy systems. These topics are investigated in order to propose solutions to address the issues of climate change, water scarcity, and energy saving. From the analyzed works, we note that some key issues for sustainable development remain to be further addressed: such as novel and advanced energy storage systems, green hydrogen production, novel low-temperature district heating and cooling networks, novel solar technologies for the simultaneous production of power and high temperature heat, solar desalination for hydrogen production systems, and agrivoltaic systems for the production of power and food. To promote sustainable economic development in the Belt and Road region of China, reducing carbon emissions is essential. The construction industry is a major contributor to carbon emissions in China. Therefore, studying the dynamic evolution of carbon emissions from the construction industry in this region and its driving factors is of great significance for effectively controlling emissions and achieving China’s carbon peak and carbon neutrality targets. This paper first employs the Slope model, Moran’s I index, and standard deviation ellipse to reveal the spatial-temporal characteristics of carbon emissions from the construction industry, and then applies the geographical detector model to identify the main driving factors of carbon emissions. The results indicate that: (1) From 2006 to 2021, the total carbon emissions showed a fluctuating growth trend, and there were significant differences in emissions among different regions. (2) Carbon emissions in most provinces exhibited a moderate growth trend, and there was significant spatial correlation and aggregation of inter-provincial emissions. Regional carbon emissions from 2006 to 2021 showed a spatial distribution pattern from northeast to southwest, with a weakening trend, and the center of gravity mainly distributed in the east of the region. (3) Labor input, urbanization rate, total output value of the construction industry, degree of opening up, and energy intensity are the main factors influencing the spatial heterogeneity of carbon emissions from the construction industry, and the majority of the interaction types between factors were bivariate enhancement. Enhancing energy efficiency within the building sector is imperative to curbing energy losses, given that this sector alone contributes to over 34% of global energy consumption. Employing a building management system, along with its regular updates, presents a strategic avenue to decrease energy usage, enhance building energy efficiency, and more. Tailored control strategies, aligned with the unique characteristics and usage patterns of each building, are essential for achieving energy savings. This article presents an evaluation of HVAC system efficiency in office buildings, utilizing a data-driven approach coupled with simulations conducted in building performance simulation software. The research explores the control strategy of an office building equipped with a constant air volume HVAC system, featuring a regularly controlled air handling unit. The objective is to boost energy efficiency while striking a balance between occupant comfort and energy consumption. The findings indicate that by analyzing measured data and adjusting the configurable parameters, the energy consumption of buildings can be significantly reduced. The close monitoring of indoor parameters by building operators and making corresponding adjustments to the HVAC system can yield energy savings of up to 16%. Leveraging these insights, this paper suggests integrating data-driven and dynamic simulation methods into building management system models to optimize HVAC systems, enhance energy efficiency, and advance ambitious carbon neutrality objectives. Climate change and uncertainties in energy transition continue to increase the risk of environmental pollutions. The need for new materials derivable from organic materials have opened several new frontiers in research and innovation. Polymer-based materials (PBMs), considering its versatility, have shown their potentials in engineering structures and, the results are promising and far-reaching. PBMs possesses excellent thermal, mechanical and chemical properties, which necessitated significant research interest in these materials, resulting in their involvement in building and construction works. However, as their needs widened, spanning all human endeavours, it therefore important to establish how best these materials could be deplored in the face of climate change. Part of what is necessary as we explore these materials, is to report how best these materials could be applicable in building and construction works due to their low thermal conductivity's values and their biodegradability properties. The application of natural fibres is noticeable everywhere with possibility of being used the more if containment measures are put in place to reduce its vulnerability. This review paper x-rays the natural fibre materials as a reliable reinforcement in building structure and this assertion is premised on its peculiarities and thermal properties. As established in many published papers, natural fibre is of lower thermal conductivities values, compared with other materials in building reinforcements. This discussion would be all encompassing, providing details on how natural fibre could assist in energy conservation in building and equally saves considerable cost in construction works. This paper presents the concept of an innovative control of a central heating system in a multifamily building based on the original thermodynamic model, the resulting architecture of the control system, and the originally designed and manufactured wireless temperature sensors for thermal zones. The novelty of this solution is the developed layers of the control system: distributed measurement and correction analysis, which is based on the existing infrastructure and the local HVAC controller. This approach allows for the effective use of the measured temperature data from thermal zones and finally sending the value of the calculated correction of settings to the controller. Moreover, in the analytical layer, a model was also implemented that calculates the necessary amount of energy based on data from the subsystem of temperature sensors located in the thermal zones of the building. The use of the algorithmic strategy presented in this paper extends the functionality and significantly improves the energy efficiency of the existing, classic, reference heating control algorithm by implementing additional control loops. Additionally, it enables integration with demand-side response systems. The presented concept was successfully tested, achieving real energy savings for heating by 12%. These results are described in a case-study format. The authors believe that this concept can be used in other buildings and thus will have a positive impact on the energy savings used to maintain thermal comfort in buildings and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The present study offers a thorough scientometric analysis of the practice of bioclimatic retrofitting in commercial buildings, which is considered a crucial approach for mitigating energy consumption and addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Since Scopus offers advanced tools for literature search and analysis, its database was used to acquire bibliographic data for nearly 400 published papers using a bibliometric search, a scientometric methodology, and an in-depth qualitative analysis. The scientometric procedure utilizes various quantitative dimensions, such as the number of intermediate citations, occurrences, average publication year, and general connection power. A retrospective examination of research publication patterns spanning 2008 to May 2022 has unveiled an upward trajectory in scholarly investigations pertaining to commercial buildings during this 15-year period. Nevertheless, research on the topics of bioclimatic design, retrofitting strategies, and green building practices in the context of commercial buildings exhibits a more gradual incline, displaying an almost linear trend between the years 2016 and 2020. Additionally, the study provides qualitative perspectives on the research environment. The paper delineates various focal points of research within the field, encompassing thermal comfort in the context of energy management and climate control, ventilation systems, sustainable development as it pertains to architectural designs and green buildings, retrofitting strategies in commercial buildings to enhance energy efficiency, the interplay between carbon dioxide levels and energy resources, the utilization of solar energy, the relationship between energy conservation and atmospheric temperature, and the application of building energy simulation techniques. This contribution is focused on the issue of the application of energy-saving measures in the construction of new residential properties and their optimal combinations with regard to the life-cycle costs of these buildings. The aim of the research is to create a methodological basis for considering the economic and financial impacts of various combinations of energy-saving measures, aiming at the optimization of these measures and the sustainability of developer projects. The research methodology is based on the principle of building life-cycle costs, which serve as a key criterion for the process of choosing the optimal combination of energy-saving measures and for comparing a conventional solution with an innovative solution including the application of energy-saving measures. The result of the research is the methodological approach for the design of technologically proven combinations of energy-saving measures, which will lead to optimization of the life-cycle costs with regard to the reference variant represented by a conventional solution. This approach is subsequently verified on three case studies of residential properties with a proposal for the optimal combination of energy-saving measures in the form of photovoltaic panels and a water-air heat pump. With the improvement of the living standards of the Chinese people, the construction of the economic system will change from one that meets the needs of the people to one that is perfect. Under the current environment of building a resource-saving socialist harmonious society, it is very necessary for architectural design practitioners to return to the original architectural design and pay attention to the design and use of building materials during construction. The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyze the application of energy saving and environmentally friendly materials in architectural design. This paper firstly analyzes the building's energy consumption and building's energy efficiency. Every major achievement in building energy efficiency will be an important means of mitigating the Earth's energy. Building energy saving has become a major trend of global development, and then the optimal design of reinforcement selection for reinforced concrete beams based on a multiobjective genetic algorithm is discussed. The area of reinforcement required for the member control section is obtained according to the structural analysis program, the main purpose of reinforcement selection is to select safe, economical, and reasonable reinforcement on the premise of meeting the provisions of the code and the requirements of reinforcement structure. Finally, this paper conducts experimental research on the application of phase change energy storage building material SP28 in building energy conservation. The experimental results in this paper show that when the mass ratio of the phase change energy storage material in the wall is less than 15%, there is no wetting and leakage phenomenon. However, when the mass ratio of the phase change energy storage material contained in the wall is greater than 15%, the phenomenon of wetting and leakage will occur, which will cause greater losses when added to the wall. Therefore, it is not suitable for application and building walls. Regardless of leakage, wetting, or economic considerations, the mass ratio of phase change material of 10% is the most suitable for use in walls. There is an urgent need to promote the technical means of energy conservation in rural buildings. However, it is difficult to inspire enthusiasm among rural residents to implement the mandatory building energy conservation policy, resulting in invisible and avoidable waste. Based on the characteristics of energy-saving technology for buildings and the theory of planned behavior, structural equation modeling was adopted to explore the transformation process of the "cognition–willingness–behavior" of rural residents. The model results validate the hypothesis that behavioral attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control influence the adoption of energy-efficient building technologies by rural residents. The results show that in terms of the factors influencing rural residents' willingness to adopt building energy-saving technology, behavioral attitudes have the greatest impact, followed by subjective norms and perceived behavior control, and that rural residents' subjective norms can indirectly promote their willingness to adopt building energy-saving technology, which is mediated through their behavioral attitudes. The built environment is a significant contributor to global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Advancements in the adoption of environmentally friendly building technology have become crucial in promoting sustainable development. These advancements play a crucial role in conserving energy. The aim is to achieve an optimal design by balancing various interrelated factors. The emergence of innovative techniques to address energy conservation have been witnessed in the built environment. This review examines existing research articles that explore different metaheuristic optimization techniques (MOTs) for energy conservation in buildings. The focus is on evaluating the simplicity and stochastic nature of these optimization techniques. The findings of the review present theoretical and mathematical models for each algorithm and assess their effectiveness in problem solving. A systematic analysis of selected algorithms using MOT is conducted, considering factors that influence wellbeing, occupant health, and indoor environmental quality. The study examines the variations among swarm intelligence MOTs based on complexity, advantages, and disadvantages. The algorithms' performances are based on the concept of uncertainty in consistently providing optimal solutions. It is a well-known issue that the 2050 target of carbon emissions neutrality will be reached only with the co-operation of all the interested sectors, and the construction sector could be one of the main contributors to this change. With the built environment globally responsible for about 40% of annual global energy-related CO2 emissions, the construction sector offers an important opportunity to drive transformative change and presents the most challenging mitigation potential among all industrial sectors, which also brings opportunities for adopting sustainability practices and increasing resilience. This paper presents a systematic literature review of those two pivotal concepts to reach the decarbonization goal: sustainability and resilience. Starting from an extensive literature review (2536 scientific documents) based on the PRISMA statement, the definitions and assessment methodologies of those concepts for the construction sector have been studied. The methodological approach followed for their analysis has been conducted on a first selection of 42 documents, further reduced to 12 by using clear inclusion criteria to identify the integrated assessment procedures. The main goal of this study is to clarify the correlation between sustainability and resilience concepts for constructions and their integrated assessment, in line with the latest regulations and market needs. The results show that, currently, sustainability and resilience are mainly evaluated in a distinct way to obtain building energy performance certificates, as well as to quantify the building market value and its complementary contribution to the 'energy efficiency first' principle and energy-saving targets towards the emergent issue of climate change. Few works focus on the integrated assessment of both concepts considering the construction industries' point of view about materials and/or systems for buildings. The novelty of this study is the critical review of the current sustainability and resilience integrated assessment methods used for the construction value chain, declined for four main target groups. Researchers, policymakers, industries, and professionals could gain dedicated insights and practical suggestions to put in practice the elements of circular economy, ecological innovation, and cleaner production, which are essential in order to drive the decarbonization of the built environment. According to the latest energy efficiency European directive (EED 2023/1791/EU), the expected energy renovation rate of at least 3% of the buildings' floor area each year towards nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEBs) is extended to include public buildings not only of the central government (as per the first EED 2012/27/EU) but also of regional and local authorities. This poses a great challenge, especially for Municipalities that often manage large building stocks with high energy demands. In response to this challenge, this paper presents the application of the so-called "typology approach" for conducting public buildings' energy renovation plans at the local level. A computational survey is initially introduced to decide the optimal set of building-stock clustering criteria among all possible combinations, involving the minimization of the RMSE index regarding the primary energy consumption of each building. For a representative building from each identified typology, the key performance indicators (KPIs) are computed for alternative energy-upgrading scenarios. Exploiting the IMPULSE Interreg-MED project tools, the KPIs from each representative building are at first extrapolated to all buildings of the examined stock and, finally, a gradual energy renovation plan is automatically produced based on user-defined decision parameters including the required annual renovation rate. The methodology is applied for the case of the Municipality of Hersonissos in Greece. For the specific 44-buildings' stock it was found that the optimal clustering set included four criteria, building use, construction year, heating, and a cooling system, leading to 15 building typologies. Finally, assuming a 7% renovation rate per year, a 12-year gradual renovation (nZEB transformation) plan is obtained foreseeing an 85% CO2 emissions' reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the phased spatial planning of the rural revitalization strategy, the proportion of architecture energy consumption in the overall social energy consumption is also increasing year by year. Considering the hot summer and cold winter areas, the proportion of architecture energy consumption in the total energy consumption is very large. The ecological environment and natural resources have been greatly threatened, and the issue of energy conservation and environmental protection is imminent. Energy consumption prediction and analysis is an important branch of building energy conservation in the field of building technology and science. Aiming at the energy consumption characteristics of rural architectures in areas with hot summer and cold winter, this paper proposes a method for constructing a neural network model. When building a neural network, the dataset is called and the function is applied randomly to training samples. The data are used for simulation tests to analyze the fit between the predicted results and the calculated results. Flexible forecasting of specific target building energy consumption is achieved, which can provide optimization strategies for updating and adjusting architecture energy efficiency design. The experimental analysis benchmark parameters and the output value in the dataset are compared with the target simulation value. The relative error is less than 4%, and the average relative error value (mean) and the root mean square error (RMSE) value are both controlled within 2%. It is proved that the method in this paper can directly reflect the evaluation of energy consumption by the neural network and realize the high-speed conversion of the generalized model to the concrete goal, which has a certain value and research significance. Building green energy-saving is an important area of current architectural application research. Artificial intelligence algorithm can effectively improve the design of building energy-saving digital, intelligent level. Therefore, this paper proposes the use of BIM model based on genetic algorithms to optimize the application of building energy conservation research. In this paper, the basic structure of genetic algorithm and advantages and disadvantages of the algorithm are described. According to the need of optimal design of building energy-saving integration, multiobjective optimization function is introduced and a multiobjective optimization genetic algorithm is established to improve the prediction effect of building energy efficiency model. Accurate indoor occupancy information extraction plays a crucial role in building energy conservation. Vision-based methods are popularly used for occupancy information extraction because of their high accuracy. However, previous vision-based methods either only provide 2D occupancy information or require expensive equipment. In this paper, we propose a cost-effective indoor occupancy information extraction system that estimates occupant positions and trajectories in 3D using a single RGB camera. The proposed system provides an inverse proportional model to estimate the distance between a human head and the camera according to pixel-heights of human heads, eliminating the dependence on expensive depth sensors. The 3D position coordinates of human heads are calculated based on the above model. The proposed system also associates the 3D position coordinates of human heads with human tracking results by assigning the 3D coordinates of human heads to the corresponding human IDs from a tracking module, obtaining the 3D trajectory of each person. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system successfully calculates accurate 3D positions and trajectories of indoor occupants with only one surveillance camera. In conclusion, the proposed system is a low-cost and high-accuracy indoor occupancy information extraction system that has high potential in reducing building energy consumption. This paper presents the first results of analyses carried out using mobile phone data on human presence (residents, commuters, visitors) in the coastal territory of Lecce (Italy). The aim of the research, conducted in the framework of the DAStU Project 'Department of Excellence on Fragile Territories' in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecce, is to provide precise feedback on the actual use of a coastal territory which is mostly inhabited temporarily, marked by unauthorised building, and threatened by various environmental and climate risks. Starting with an acknowledgement of the limits that traditional census and registry data have in detecting the use of territories characterised by seasonal use and informality, the paper analyses the variations in anthropic presence over multiple years and the incidence of permanent residents. The analyses were carried out using mobile positioning data extracted from the TIM Data Visual Insight (DVI) platform and refer to the period between September 2019 and September 2020. The results show evident heterogeneity among the different coastal settlements. In particular, there are substantial differences between the southern marine (San Cataldo, Torre Veneri, Frigole, Montegrappa) and northern ones (Torre Chianca, Spiaggiabella, Torre Rinalda), where the former show a greater presence of stable residents and a less pronounced seasonal fluctuation. These differences are fundamental for urban planning policies to determine in which areas the retreat of the building from the coast could cause more difficulties and inconveniences. Driven by the global goal of "carbon neutrality", energy conservation, emission reduction and low-carbon development have become important research directions. Transparent thermal insulation materials can effectively shield near-infrared radiation while maintaining high visible light transmittance, making them widely applicable in building energy conservation. In this paper, antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) and cesium tungsten bronze (Cs x WO 3 , or CWO) are chosen to be composited in order to solve the problems of the poor shielding effect of ATO for short-wavelength near-infrared (NIR) light and the unsatisfactory shielding effect of CWO for long-wavelength NIR light. Therefore, in this study, we employed a one-step hydrothermal method to form a novel CWO@ATO core-shell structure to combine the advantages of both ATO and CWO. By adjusting the composite ratio of ATO and CWO, both the physical and electronic stucutres are effectively tuned to promote the optical modulation in a broad bandwidth. Enventually, the core-shell structured composite exhibit an excellent near-infrared blocking property, surpassing the pure ATO by 27.8 % in the wavelength region of 780∼1500 nm while improving by 14.9 % compared to CWO in the long wavelength between 1500 and 2500 nm. Furthermore, the prepared CWO@ATO core-shell structure repesents near-infrared shielding rate as high as 93.1 % in the full NIR spectrum, and possesses an overall thermal insulation coefficiency (THI) of 9.33 in the full range from 780 nm to 2500 nm, which is substantially larger than that of pure ATO and CWO by a factor of 2.37 and 3.05, respectively. This core-shell structure engineering realizes the utilization of complementary advantages of ATO and Cs 0·33 WO 3 materials, providing a new method to improve the near-infrared performance of energy-saving glass coating, and having broad application prospects in the field of low-carbon buildings. Thin metal coatings on glass are widely used in modern windows to improve their thermal properties. However, while there are some available papers on the properties of microwave propagation through commercial metallized windows glass below 6 GHz there seems to be a lack of papers regarding metallized multiglazed windows at higher frequencies. Such data are of the great importance when designing modern microwave communication systems working in urban environments. In this paper, the shielding effectiveness (SE) of modern energy-saving glasses and windows were investigated at microwave frequencies from 1 to 20 GHz. Wide measurement range together with proposed fast calculation procedure based on the matrix multiplication method, allowed us to elucidate the reasons responsible for the extremes in dependencies of SE on frequency. It was also shown that by comparing measured and calculated results, the conductivity of the thin metallic layer used in modern energy-saving windows can be determined. Buildings use a significant percentage of the total energy consumed worldwide. Striving for energy conservation within buildings is of prime concern for researchers. Hence, scientists are aggressively exploring new energy storage and supply methods to reduce exorbitantly fluctuating energy demands and increase the share of renewable energy in building energy consumption. Solar systems that incorporate phase change materials (PCMs) for thermal storage have significant potential to serve in this context. These systems are not yet able to endure the significant energy demands, but they are being continually improved. The aim of this paper is to explore the existing solar PCM systems that are being studied or that are installed for use in indoor heating/cooling. As per the outcome of this systematic review, it has been observed that when coupled with solar thermal energy, the configuration of PCMs can either use passive or active techniques. Passive techniques are usually less efficient and more costly to implement in a building structure, resulting in active heat exchangers being widely implemented with better technical and economic results. At the same time, it has been observed that for most domestic buildings, organic PCMs with phase change temperatures of up to 42 °C and thermal conductivities of up to 0.56 W/m.K are most suitable for integration in solar thermal energy production. Hybrid systems are also commonly used for larger commercial buildings, in which the solar PCM system (SPCMS) provides a fraction of the total load. Additionally, the Stefan number is the most common technical parameter that is used to assess this performance, along with the effective thermal conductivity of the PCM after using enhancement techniques. The key economic indicator is annual savings per year, with most SPCMSs having a payback period of between 6 to 30 years. This review provides designers and researchers with key insights in terms of formulating a basis in the domain of coupling PCMs with solar thermal energy, especially within non-industrial buildings. Phase change materials (PCMs), which can absorb and release large amounts of latent heat during phase change, have been extensively studied for heat storage and thermal management. However, technical bottlenecks regarding low thermal conductivity and leakage have hindered practical applications of PCMs. In this paper, a simple, economical, and scalable absorption polymerization technique is proposed to prepare the polymethyl methacrylate/propyl palmitate/expanded graphite (MPCM/EG) phase change composites by constructing the microencapsulated phase change materials (polymethyl methacrylate/propyl palmitate, MPCM) with core-shell structures in the three-dimensional (3D) EG networks, taking propyl palmitate as the PCM core, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the shell, and long-chain "worm-like" EG as the thermally conductive networks. This technique proved to be a more appropriate combinatorial pathway than direct absorption of MPCM via EG. The MPCM/EG composites with high thermal conductivity, high enthalpy, excellent thermal stability, low leakage, and good thermal cycle reliability were prepared. The results showed that the MPCM-80/EG-10 composite demonstrated a high thermal conductivity of 3.38 W/(m·K), a phase change enthalpy up to 152.0 J/g, an encapsulation ratio of 90.3%, outstanding thermal stability performance, and long-term thermal cycle reliability when the EG loading is 10% and propyl palmitate is 80%. This research offers an easy and efficient approach for designing and fabricating phase change composites with promising applications in diverse energy-saving fields, such as renewable energy collection, building energy conservation, and microelectronic devices thermal protection. As the world continues in the quest to fight global warming and environmental pollution by gradually moving to renewable sources of energy, there is also a need to reduce building energy consumption by refurbishing old and historic buildings to meet the required energy standards. While this approach may differ from city to city across the globe, the refurbishment of old and historic buildings would make a significant impact. That is why it is necessary to educate building owners or occupants by simulating the existing energy consumption and proposing appropriate refurbishment strategies. Because the accuracy of energy simulation is directly proportional to the amount of data available and its reliability, there is a need to find creative ways of supplying incomplete or missing building information. The present paper describes a concept that enables individual building occupants or owners to provide this missing information. Prefabrication is undergoing significant growth in the building and construction sector in China. Meanwhile, the integrated measurement and reduction solution for energy consumption is quickly becoming an important target of scientific efforts and research, especially in prefabricated buildings. Embedded energy consumption requirements can potentially be reduced during the manufacturing process of prefabricated components: the opportunity for its reduction can be significant. This paper aims to propose a BIM and LCA integrated approach that enables the energy consumption of prefabricated components in the manufacturing stage to be extracted and calculated in order to obtain a clear, precise understanding of the energy consumption management in prefabrication. To enhance the energy consumption description of prefabricated components, this paper clarifies the contents of energy consumption inventory and related calculation formula in raw material extraction and production, material transportation, and factorized production of prefabricated components, respectively. Specifically, considering that current Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) standard does not accommodate entities with energy consumption information or relationships, it applies the IFC extension method to connect the energy consumption inventory with the BIM model. The proposed approach is applied and verified in a case study from China. This study reveals that energy consumption control should be investigated in the element level considering the differences of various prefabricated components' requirements in the manufacturing stage. Coal‐fired thermal power must be flexible to enable the grid absorption of inconsistent photovoltaic (PV) and wind power. Combined heat and power (CHP) coal‐fired plants are the primary source for district heating systems. This paper uses a 330 MW subcritical CHP unit as an example to carry out the study. With the promotion of building energy efficiency, when the thermal index is reduced to below 20 W/m2, the low‐load operation of CHP can meet the wind power and PV feed‐in demand and guarantee residential heating without the need for flexibility modification. Meanwhile, more renewable energy generation can reduce carbon emissions from the power supply, further contributing to reducing carbon emissions from buildings. The impacts of different envelope parameters and supplementary heat sources on building carbon emissions are also studied. The conclusion shows that the degree of their impact on carbon emissions ranks as ESMs (energy supply modes) > Factor D (infiltration N50) > Factor A (external wall heat transfer coefficient) > Factor C (window heat transfer coefficient) > Factor B (roof heat transfer coefficient). When the building's heating energy consumption gradually decreases, the distributed heat pump unit can replace the coal‐fired boiler to supply the peak heat load demand. Under accelerated urbanisation and rapid social and economic development, environmental pollution has become an important content of the construction industry. Therefore, the environmental benefit analysis of green buildings is of great significance to the effective use of energy and resources and to achieve the goal of protecting resources, reducing pollution and improving the ecological environment. The results show that the measured results of incremental environmental costs of the office building in Taiyuan City in land saving, energy saving, water saving, material saving, indoor environmental quality and operation management are decreased by 13.56 %, 11.02 %, 25.17 %, 14.43 %, and 15.25 %, respectively; incremental environmental benefits in land saving, energy saving, water saving, material saving, indoor environmental quality and operation management are increased by 23.15 %, 10.37 %, 19.30 %, 18.25 %, and 22.53 %, respectively. Those suggest that the BIM technology applied to the complete life cycle cost analysis of green buildings can test, measure and guide all the steps of building design, construction and maintenance and largely meet the criteria of resource-saving and energy-saving. Occupant behavior has an important impact on building energy consumption, and the accuracy of an occupant behavior model directly affects the reliability of energy consumption simulation results. Ultra-low energy buildings are crucial to achieving building energy conservation and carbon dioxide reduction in China. In order to effectively promote the development of ultra-low energy buildings in Hot Summer and Cold Winter Climate Zones. where most residents adopt a "part-time, part-space" pattern of intermittent energy use behavior, and to solve the problem of poor indoor thermal environments and the high incremental cost of ultra-low energy, the study described in this paper takes Changsha as an example to carry out a multi-objective optimization study on ultra-low energy housing using a probabilistic behavioral model. On the basis of a probability model representing the residents' actual behavior in Changsha, the optimization objective indicators, key variables and the technology benchmarks for ultra-low energy building were determined, then multi-objective optimization was carried out for a range of energy efficient technologies to obtain the Pareto optimal solutions. The results showed that the set of optimal solutions could reduce energy demand by 50.2 to 60.2% and reduce indoor thermal discomfort time by 3.52–11.09% compared with those of a reference base case, which just meets the requirements of the current design standard for energy efficient domestic buildings. An optimum solution for energy savings and indoor thermal comfort, along with economic costs, was identified, which can assist in decision-making by providing different preferences and provide useful reference for the design of ultra-low energy buildings in Hot Summer and Cold Winter Climate regions. Energy efficiency in buildings is very important since it contributes significantly to fossil fuel consumption and consequently climate change. Several approaches have been taken by researchers and the industry to address the issue. These approaches are classified as either passive or active approaches. The purpose of this review article is to summarize a number of the technologies that have been investigated and/or developed. In this technical review paper, the more commonly used active and passive building energy conservation techniques are described and discussed. The pros and cons of both the active and passive energy techniques are described with appropriate reference citations provided. This review article provides a description to give an understanding of building conservation approaches. In the active classification, several methods have been reviewed that include earth-to-air heat exchangers, ground-source and hybrid heat pumps, and the use of new refrigerants, among other methods. In the passive classification, methods such as vegetated roofs, solar chimneys, natural ventilation, and more are discussed. This paper describes a methodology to assess the energy performance of residential buildings starting from the semantic 3D city model of Vienna. Space heating, domestic hot water and electricity demand are taken into account. The paper deals with aspects related to urban data modelling, with particular attention to the energy-related topics, and with issues related to interactive data exploration/visualisation and management from a plugin-free web-browser, e.g. based on Cesium, a WebGL virtual globe and map engine. While providing references to existing previous works, only some general and introductory information is given about the data collection, harmonisation and integration process necessary to create the CityGML-based 3D city model, which serves as the central information hub for the different applications developed and described more in detail in this paper. The work aims, among the rest, at developing urban decision making and operational optimisation software tools to minimise nonrenewable energy use in cities. The results obtained so far, as well as some comments about their quality and limitations, are presented, together with the discussion regarding the next steps and some planned improvements. Long-term predictions of the energy consumption of a building can be a reference in formulating energy conservation policies to achieve carbon neutrality. However, existing research on the prediction of energy consumption of urban buildings mainly adopts top-down or bottom-up single models that do not consider the coupling effect of macro and micro factors. Therefore, a coupled top-down and bottom-up prediction model has been proposed in this paper. The applicability of the proposed method was investigated based on residential buildings in Beijing, China. First, based on a top-down methodology, the energy consumption data of residential buildings in Beijing were investigated using an urban statistical yearbook, and the energy consumption of residential buildings under different energy-saving policies was analyzed. Second, micro factors, such as envelope parameters, personnel behavior, air conditioning, and electrical usage of typical residential buildings, were investigated. Subsequently, a simulation model of residential building energy consumption was constructed according to the survey data. The actual and simulated values for 2017 were 0.264 GJ/m2 and 0.252 GJ/m2 , respectively. Finally, pessimistic and optimistic scenarios are proposed using the Human Impact, Population, Affluence, Technology (IPAT) model. The energy consumption of residential buildings in Beijing for the next decade was predicted under different scenarios by adopting the gray prediction method and multiple regression analysis, which was verified using the back-propagation neural network algorithm. Design priorities for tall and supertall buildings have for some time shifted to achieving more energy efficiency to address the energy needs of the increasing global population. Engineers and architects aim to achieve energy conservation through active and passive approaches, pursuing technological innovations and adopting climate-responsive design. Because of the green movement currently dominating the building industry, tall buildings that need a massive amount of energy to build and operate, and the practical desire to switch from non-renewable to clean renewable energy resources, intense attention has been given to the energy efficiency of tall buildings in the recent past. Due to the vast array of energy-efficient design features, equipment, and applications available now, it is timely to examine the pros and cons of these issues. This review paper is an attempt to comprehensively present and deliberate these issues. It illustrates and discusses the concepts and applications through a few case studies from several continents worldwide. The review shows that the design of tall buildings focusing on energy conservation is an evolutionary process and there is a need for further research about how to face the associated challenges to improve energy efficiency by developing creative solutions and strategies, as well as applying additional innovative technologies. Solar Decathlon is a multi-disciplinary international competition that integrates energy-saving design strategies to design, build and operate zero-energy solar houses. This study focused on the 15 entries in the third Solar Decathlon China. It summarized their energy-saving design strategies into strategies of architectural design, equipment management, energy acquisition and intelligent regulation, and extracted a total of 22 key design elements. Based on the scoring results of the competition, this study analyzed the application of different design strategies with qualitative analysis; through quantitative analysis, 22 design elements were associated with the score, and the impact of different strategies on the score was comprehensively analyzed. As revealed in the data, design concept, functional structure and application type of renewable energy are significantly correlated with and have a great impact on the score; in contrast, building area and thermal buffer space are not significantly correlated with the score. On the basis of data analysis, this study provides a quantitative decision basis for the energy-saving design strategy of zero-energy buildings, and establishes an empirical model for the design of zero-energy solar buildings in Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City. This paper focuses on the willingness to pay for green housing in China. First, we introduce green building related labels in China and briefly discuss the consumers' incentives to buy this kind of building. Second, with the available transaction data in Shanghai, a hedonic regression model is applied to investigate whether or not a price premium in the residential market exists. Furthermore, we use the nonparametric matching model under a treatment framework to see the robustness of our results. The empirical result shows there exists a significant price premium in China. However, the premium does not increase with quality certification tiers. That may imply that homebuyers in China are not sensitive to the differences among green buildings although they are willing to pay a higher price for this newly emerging energy-saving building. Traditional data centres often require additional energy to drive air conditioning fans etc. to dissipate heat due to the serious power generation problems of servers, which in effect raises the economic costs. Seawater, with its high specific heat capacity and fluidity, offers a viable research direction for reducing economic costs, and this paper is based on this problem. The study shows that it is feasible to use containers as the main structure of the data centre. The number of servers n 860 that can be tolerated by the cooling capacity of the container without considering the limit of geometrical constraints is obtained by calculation. Secondly, in order to enhance the heat dissipation capacity of the data centre, the 6 cm straight ribbed crown fin heat dissipation enclosure is proposed to have the best heat dissipation capacity when comparing various heat dissipation enclosure configurations. A comprehensive assessment model of material properties was established, and the weights of each straight index were determined by analytic hierarchy process, and then the metals were ranked according to the specific scores of each index. Aiming at energy saving and consumption reduction, this project applies the technology of combined heating and cooling heat pump to ecological building design. The combined hot and cold system is an integrated control system, which utilizes the solar system and heat pump technology (air source heat pump, water source heat pump) to complement each other based on changes in the outdoor environment, thus providing users with hot water heating and cold water cooling in winter. After installing a new heating and cooling system, coupled with well-equipped automatic control equipment, the heating coal consumption has been significantly reduced, and the emissions of CO2, SO2 dust, and other pollutants have also been correspondingly reduced. Compared with the cold and hot split supply system using electric refrigeration and thermal heating, the winter and summer sharing of the cold and hot combined supply device not only improves energy utilization efficiency, but also saves investment in heat source construction, thereby reducing costs and environmental pollution. In the wake of increasing global concern over environmental change and energy consumption, building energy conservation has emerged as a pivotal issue worldwide. The primary energy consumption in buildings stems largely from air conditioning and heating systems. The efficiency of these systems is significantly influenced by the thermal performance of the building's exterior wall insulation layers. In-depth research and optimized design of these insulation layers' thermal performance are thus critical topics in the field of building energy conservation. However, current research methods encounter limitations in addressing these issues, notably neglecting the impact of thermal bridges on the insulation layers' thermal performance and focusing solely on single parameters in insulation optimization design. This study addresses these challenges by conducting a comprehensive analysis and optimization design of the thermal performance of building exterior wall insulation layers. It includes an analysis of heat transfer through thermal bridges and the optimization of insulation parameters, aiming to provide a more holistic and systematic approach to optimizing the thermal performance of building exterior wall insulation layers. Specifically, this study uses thermal simulation software to conduct three-dimensional simulation of thermal bridges, analyzing the temperature distribution and heat flow in the thermal bridge area. According to international or domestic standards, the linear heat transfer coefficient of the thermal bridge is determined through calculation. By using optimization algorithms, the thermal performance parameters of the insulation layer are optimized in design. Through experiments, specific linear heat transfer coefficient and equivalent heat transfer coefficient of thermal bridges are obtained, as well as the extent of the impact of thermal bridges on overall thermal performance. Meanwhile, based on optimization algorithms, a set of materials and structural parameters that enable the building's external wall insulation layer to achieve higher thermal efficiency is obtained. After optimization, a lower heat transfer coefficient of the external wall insulation layer is achieved, improving the insulation performance of the wall. This paper provides a technical method for the analysis of heat transfer in thermal bridges and the optimization of insulation parameters. It helps architects more accurately assess and improve the thermal performance of building exteriors, which is significant for reducing energy loss and lowering operational costs of buildings. The research results can provide scientific basis for the formulation of building energy-saving standards, especially in terms of thermal bridge effects and external wall insulation performance. Research projects on neighbourhoods with zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions often emphasise technological solutions. Does the representation of this technological emphasis appeal to potential homeowners and occupants? How can sustainable neighbourhoods with low or zero GHG emissions be represented in an attractive manner? A pilot project in Elverum, Norway, to develop a zero emission neighbourhood (ZEN) called Ydalir is examined for its efforts to attract potential homeowners. This paper investigates how the suggested meaning and use of this ZEN have been produced through these efforts. Drawing on the concept of socialisation, the analysis shows that the involved actors' efforts to fit the ZEN concept into the local market have moved the understanding and representations of Ydalir ZEN from 'a facilitator for zero emission buildings' to 'a facilitator for sustainable practices'. As part of this shift, the promotion of technology has gone from an enabler of the neighbourhood to a bonus factor. In addition, the roles ascribed to the residents have changed from passive receivers of technical energy-saving solutions to responsible participants in sustainable activities. A stronger narrative connection between the social and technological attributes of the neighbourhood should be reflected in both the research agenda and the representations of the areas. Global climate crises are forcing the world to behave sustainably. The building energy service industry (BESI) emerged and promoted building energy conservation by providing a market-oriented mechanism for initial investment. However, the BESI lacks scientific and rational planning, lagging far behind the energy service in the industrial sector. This paper attempts to analyze BESI from the perspective of order parameter-based analysis by adopting the DEMATEL (Decision-Making and Trial Evaluation Laboratory) method, thereby revealing the characteristics of industrial evolution and ascertaining the main order parameters. Consequently, the results show that the evolution of the BESI industry relies on synergistic interaction in the corporate operation, industry-standard, production factor-related, and external environmental industry subsystems. The synergy of the BESI consists of synergy in subsystems, between subsystems, and between the system and the external environment. Three main order parameters dominating the evolution of the BESIs system are determined, namely, "financial support", "industry standard", and "technology innovation". In this paper, a series of eutectic hydrated salts was obtained by mixing Na2HPO4·12H2O (DHPD) with K2HPO4·3H2O (DHPT) in different proportions. With the increase in the content of DHPT, the phase transition temperature and melting enthalpy of eutectic hydrated salts decreased gradually. Moreover, the addition of appropriate deionized water improved the thermal properties of eutectic hydrated salts. Colloidal silicon dioxide (SiO2) was selected as the support carrier to adsorb eutectic hydrated salts, and the maximum content of eutectic hydrated salts in composite PCMs was 70%. When the content of the nucleating agent (Na2SiO3·9H2O) was 5%, the supercooling degree of composite PCMs was reduced to the minimum of 1.2 °C. The SEM and FT-IR test results showed that SiO2 and eutectic hydrated salts were successfully combined, and no new substances were formed. When the content of DHPT was 3%, the phase transition temperature and melting enthalpy of composite PCMs were 26.5 °C and 145.3 J/g, respectively. The results of thermogravimetric analysis and heating–cooling cycling test proved that composite PCMs had good thermal reliability and stability. The application performance of composite PCMs in prefabricated temporary houses was investigated numerically. The results indicated that PCM panels greatly increased the Grade I thermal comfort hours and reduced energy consumption. Buildings are among the largest energy consumers in the world. As new technologies have been developed, great advances have been made in buildings, turning conventional buildings into smart buildings. These smart buildings have allowed for greater supervision and control of the energy resources within the buildings, taking steps to energy management strategies to achieve significant energy savings. The forecast of energy consumption in buildings has been a very important element in these energy strategies since it allows adjusting the operation of buildings so that energy can be used more efficiently. This paper presents a review of energy consumption forecasting in smart buildings for improving energy efficiency. Different forecasting methods are studied in nonresidential and residential buildings. Following this, the literature is analyzed in terms of forecasting objectives, input variables, forecasting methods and prediction horizon. LVDC buildings use a low-voltage direct current (LVDC) distribution system for energy transmission and integrate photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage (BES) and the utility grid as building energy resources. This technology can reduce energy loss in conversion to a certain extent and increase renewable energy compared with traditional AC distribution systems. Under the national goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, LVDC buildings have been proven to be a new approach to energy conservation and emission reductions, and have been applied in engineering in China. However, the construction methods and integrated technologies of those projects are not clear, and technical barriers and policy constraints for the engineering application of LVDC buildings are not systematically discussed yet. This paper presents the latest study of LVDC building engineering applications the advantages and drawbacks of LVDC development in China. First, relevant policies and standards which support the development of LVDC building industries are summarized. More than 60 practical LVDC projects are investigated, and the application characteristics and the technology status of building types, and their capacity and design methods, etc., are analyzed. The attitudes of stakeholders toward LVDC buildings are surveyed to determine the policy direction according to the demands of this technology, with reference to building practitioners who intend to engage in LVDC projects. A smart and intelligent energy management system (SIEMS) can make the existing system more reliable, robust, and cost-effective to deal with the present power scenario. This also initiates the necessity to develop a new dynamic tariff system and integrate renewable energy sources (RES) along with the conventional grid which in turn reduces carbon emission. Many countries have adopted different strategies for energy conservation based on energy conservation code, the main aim of which is to enforce design and development of household appliances for efficient power consumption. From data provided by utility sectors, it has been found that even in few countries 25% to 28% of the total energy is consumed by domestic sector and 45% of other residential loads also contribute a major part of the total domestic load consumed in any country. As a whole, residences, which consist of light electrical loads and home appliances constitute prosumers. The total energy consumed by prosumers is also intended by Bureau of energy efficiency, to make them fall under these codes (Energy Conservation Building Code) so that they can be treated on a scale of 1 star to 5 stars. This in turn will help in improving the energy performance index (EPI). In this paper, the optimal scheduling model of household appliances and energy storage system (ESS) has been designed based on the availability of renewable energy sources and newly proposed dynamic tariff system. To validate the efficiency of the model, we have comparatively evaluated the performance of the model with different feature selection methods and optimization techniques. A case study has been done and it has been found that the weighted K nearest neighbor method for feature selection and hybrid greedy particle swarm optimization (HGPSO) technique for optimization are performing better than other existing methods. In order to achieve China's energy conservation and emission reduction goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions around 2030, it is of great significance. An important means of building energy conservation and emission reduction is the fine management of building energy consumption, which is based on the accurate prediction of building energy consumption, so as to support the optimal management of building operation and achieve the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction. This paper puts forward the evaluation indexes of the results of the building energy consumption prediction model, uses MAPE and RMSE indexes to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction results of the model, and uses the prediction time and input parameter dimensions to evaluate the time cost of the prediction model. Then, using the three building energy consumption prediction models based on machine learning algorithm established above, the prediction of energy consumption of four types of public buildings in different seasons is completed, and the prediction results are evaluated and analyzed. According to the prediction results and the requirements of related work on the accuracy of building energy consumption prediction model, the adaptation relationship between different types of buildings and different machine learning algorithm prediction models is summarized. The Review Notes are made of five parts. Each section examines a specific aspect of the broader information storage within the main interests of TeMA Journal. This section of the Review Notes explores a specific topic, related to cities, within the framework of the European program NextGenerationEU. This contribution deepens the topic of energy efficiency in urban areas, providing an overview of the proposed interventions to improve energy management and save natural resources in the Italian Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). The aim is deepening how these measures are intended to make Italian cities more sustainable, livable and environmental-friendly.
