The paper presents a quantitative and qualitative profile of Thrombosis research in India, based on 4026 publications indexed in Scopus database during 2000-19. Indian research output on Thrombosis registered 11.64% annual growth, averaged 13.54 citations per paper and contributed 2.26% global share (with 13th rank) and 14.13% share devoted to international collaborative papers. Thrombosis research applications across subjects were the largest in medicine (87.93%), followed for other subjects with contribution from 5.84% to 10.08%), etc. The distribution by type revealed that Venous Thrombosis accounted for the highest share (52.36% share), followed by Arterial Thrombosis (29.01% share), Limb ischemia (1.49%) and Hepatic artery thrombosis (0.72%) during 2000-19. AIIMS- New Delhi (374 papers) and PGIMER-Chandigarh (280 papers) lead the country as the most productive organizations. Besides, GMCH-Chandigarh (66.80 and 4.93) and Fortis Healthcare Limited (47.82 and 3.53) lead the country as the most impactful organizations in terms of citation per paper and relative citation index. K. Ghosh (61 papers) and R. Saxena (51 papers) lead the contry as most productive authors and K. Sarin (115.32 and 8.52) and D. Dash (44.29 and 3.27) lead as the most impactful authors. We analyse the results from a longitudinal natural field experiment that provides an environmental nudge by reinforcing positive environmental norms. Posters asking individuals to use less paper are pasted on printers (Times) and in office cubicles (Umendall) of two information technology firms around New Delhi, India. A third firm (India Mart) does not get the nudge and serves as our control. During the nudge period, employees of the firms that get the conservation message on average expend a significantly lower number of sheets per day as compared to the pre-nudge period, measured both in terms of paper used and paper wasted. Furthermore, after the nudge is removed, the per capita paper wastage for one of the firms that received it (Times) does not increase significantly over the next month and a half, whereas for the other firm (Umendall) it does but remains significantly lower than the per capita wastage in the pre-nudge period. In terms of total paper used, the nudged firms show a reduction in the number of sheets used several weeks after the nudge is removed. For the control firm, the wastage and usage of printer paper does not change significantly over the duration of the experiment. A robustness check with no nudge intervention done by computing per capita wastage and usage for the same dates exactly one year later does not show a reduction over the same time period and offers support for our conclusions. Background & objectives: Dried blood spotted on to filter paper has been found suitable for a large number of studies. In tropical countries with varying temperature conditions the use of dried blood needs to be validated. We carried out this study to assess the use of blood spotted filter paper as a transport system to study genotyping ofApo E gene. Methods: Fifty five patients visiting Cardiothoracic Neuroscience Centre (CNC) OPD at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and referred for lipid investigations to Cardiac Biochemistry Laboratory were selected at random. Blood was spotted on to Whatman 3 MM filter paper, dried and stored at room temperature. Genomic DNA was extracted and genotyping was carried out at the end of 0, 3 and 12 months. The study was further validated using samples collected on to filter paper from four centres and stored for eight years at room temperature. The temperature and humidity conditions of the centre varied widely. Results: Fifty five samples collected on to filter paper showed exact match of the genotyping when compared to fresh blood. In dried blood samples collected and stored for 1 yr at room temperature DNA extraction and apo E genotyping was done successfully. Interpretation & conclusions: The present results showed the feasibility of using dried blood samples on filter paper for apo E genotyping in tropical temperature. The total of 3,818 publications collected from the Web of Science database had their collected data measured using scientometric techniques. The search strategy TS=topic for black holes research was refined to 15 years, from 2008 to 2022, and only selected Indian research productivity. The collected data was measured from various angles and types of documents, with 97.590% articles and the highest annual growth rate of 23.664% in 2018. The most prolific author, Ajith Parameshwaran, from the Bangalore International Center for theoretical science, published 119 papers with 32,405 citations (61 h-index). The Journal of Physical Review is the most prolific, with 604 publications and 16,068 citations. The most frequent keyword occurrences are "black holes," with 435 reflected. The Department of Science and Technology in New Delhi is the most prolific, having published 664 papers with a total of 14,346 citations (58 h-index). The black research involved 80 countries, out of which India secured the 8th place in the world's contribution. This paper looks at two memorials built in India to commemorate Sikh victims of the violent events of June 1984 and November 1984. Gurdwara Yaadgaar Shaheedan (Gurdwara Martyrs' Memorial) was built in the Golden Temple complex, Amritsar in 2013, and the Wall of Truth: Sikh Genocide Memorial was inaugurated in Gurdwara Rakabganj, New Delhi in 2017. While both memorials commemorate related events and are built by the same group of people, they differ completely in the choice of nomenclature, design and even the justification given for their creation. The skies over central New Delhi in India were lit up by a spectacular display of over a thousand Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) on the 75th republic day celebration in January 2022. The usage of UAS or drones, as commonly referred to, has gained momentum worldwide, including in India, signifying its importance in the aviation ecosystem. The advancement of technology and large-scale investment has fast-tracked the proliferation of UAS in civil, commercial, and military domains. The government of India and national aviation regulators are continuously working to provide a concrete regulatory framework to support the growth of the UAS sector and minimize the risk emerging from the operation of UAS. A recent step towards the same was taken by passing Drone, Rules 2021. The UAS ecosystem is still in its initial stages of development with uncertainties in privacy, safety, data protection, and governance issues. This paper aims to provide an overview of the UAS regulations in India and their implications for the UAS ecosystem. The Shaheen Bagh protest in New Delhi highlighted the changing dynamics of Muslim women's participation in socio-political movements in India. This paper argues how Muslim women proved themselves to be concerned citizens while protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (2019) and other forms of social discrimination. The paper analyses the Shaheen Bagh protest from an intersectional perspective to understand how Muslim women voiced their political opinions negotiating with gender and religion-based discrimination; they had to fight the multiple forms of patriarchy of Indian society while protesting against hypermasculine Hindutva politics. Post-independent India has witnessed several horrific incidents of communal violence. The largest communal riot happened in the year 1984, in the capital city of New Delhi. But after the occurrence of the Anti-Sikh Riots of 1984, there was silence surrounding the incident. The silence was primarily caused by the trauma inflicted from the incident. There are reasons to believe that the silence was politically motivated too. However, the role fictional writings have played in communicating the traumatic memory of the incident was significant. This paper studies the novel Amu written by Shonali Bose to understand the representation of traumatic memory of the community. The paper attempts to problematize the decades-long silence surrounding the incident and the novel's role along with other similar fictional accounts in unravelling the truth of the incident. This paper reports the open path measurement of atmospheric transmission in the spectral region of 3000–3450 nm using a mid infrared tunable lidar in New Delhi (28.7oN, 77.1oE), India. Results on the measurement of atmospheric transmission in New Delhi are reported for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. A tunable infrared lidar system has been developed in-house, which transmits laser radiation with the wavelength interval of 1 nm in the above spectral band into the atmosphere. A 200-mm-diameter Cassegrain receiver telescope with mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) detector is used to collect the backscattered radiation from the atmosphere. The reflected laser radiation received from the tower located at a distance of 400 m is used to generate the transmission spectrum. Data recorded during the daytime measurements have been considered in this paper. Transmission spectra measured over several days showed a similar pattern, which confirmed the repeatability of the system performance. The measured spectra are also compared with the SkyCalc transmission model generated using the online database. Preliminary analysis indicated that these spectra had good agreement in general with a small shift in wavelength region. We have also analyzed the HITRAN database line-by-line and identified the possible major absorbing molecules in this band. The sources of air pollutants that absorb in this band and also discussed. Purpose: Prisoners are at a higher risk of HIV infection compared to the general population. The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence of HIV and related risk behaviours among inmates of the Central Prisons in four states of North India. Design/methodology/approach: The HIV sentinel surveillance was conducted in seven Central Prisons in four states of North India from February to April 2019. Four hundred inmates were included from each prison. The interviews were conducted at the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre located within the prison premises. The Ethics Committee of the National AIDS Control Organization, New Delhi, granted ethical approval before the start of the surveillance. Findings: Overall, 2,721 inmates were enrolled in this study. The mean (SD) age was 38.9 (13.9) years. One-third of prison inmates had comprehensive knowledge about HIV/AIDS. The proportion of convict (54%) and undertrial (46%) inmates was almost equal. The overall prevalence of HIV infection among inmates was 0.96% (95% CI 0.65–1.40). The odds of being HIV positive were significantly higher in never married inmates, undertrials, inmates who were in the prison for more than three months to one year, inmates incarcerated for multiple times, inmates with history of injecting drug use and inmates with history of intercourse with a commercial sex worker. Originality/value: The findings from the very first HIV sentinel surveillance in central prisons in North India have been presented in this paper. Background. Ayurveda, the Indian system of medicine, has been practised in India since ages. We evaluated the overall awareness regarding Ayurveda among patients attending two specialty clinics at a tertiary care institute. Methods. We did a cross-sectional study on patients attending the cardiology and neurology clinics at a tertiary care hospital in India. We conducted this paper-based survey using a standardized, validated questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA version 14.2. Results. Three hundred and ninety-seven patients agreed to participate in the study. Their mean (SD) age was 45.65 (15.02) years. Among them 68.5% were men and 56.9% were from urban areas. Participants perceived that Ayurveda comprised herbal drugs (77.6%), metallic/herbo-mineral preparations (44.3%), Panchakarma therapy (22.2%) and personalized medicine (37.8%). Principal sources of information were TV promotional programmes (34.7%) and newspaper advertisements (13.9%). Nearly two-thirds (63%) of participants opined that Ayurveda is effective in chronic disorders. Although only 9.1% of participants reported the use of Ayurvedic medicines, 89.2% believed it would be beneficial if the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi had Ayurveda services. Three-fourths (75.8%) of respondents were interested to participate in research studies integrating Ayurveda with modern medicine. Conclusion. Imprecise knowledge and awareness towards Ayurveda appears to prevail in addition to the low practice among the patients surveyed. We found imprecise knowledge of Ayurvedic therapies and its low usage among patients attending specialized OPDs in a tertiary care hospital. The major source of information reported was promotional advertisements in the print and electronic media. Our survey shows a need for awareness programmes for general public at various levels. The presence of persistent heavy fog in northern India during winter creates hazardous situations for transportation systems and disrupts the lives of about 400 million people. The meteorological factors responsible for its genesis and predictability are not yet completely understood in this region. Given its high potential for socioeconomic impact, there is a pressing need for extensive research that understands the inherently complex nature of the phenomena through field observations and modeling exercises. WiFEX is a first-of-its-kind multi-institutional initiative dealing with intensive ground-based measurement campaigns for developing a suitable fog forecasting capability under the aegis of the smart cities mission of India. Measuring campaigns were conducted during the 2015–20 winters at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, covering more than 90 dense fog events. The field experiments involved extensive suites of in situ instruments and gathered simultaneous observations of micrometeorological conditions, radiative fluxes, turbulence, droplet/aerosol microphysics, aerosol optical properties, fog water chemistry, and vertical thermodynamical structure to describe the environmental stability in which fog develops. An operational modeling framework, the WRF Model, was set up to provide fog predictions during the measurement campaign. These field observations helped to interpret the strengths and deficiencies in the numerical modeling framework. Four scientific objectives were pursued: (i) the life cycle of optically thin and thick fog, (ii) microphysical properties in the polluted boundary layer, (iii) fog water chemistry, gas–aerosol partitioning during the fog life cycle, and (iv) numerical prediction of fog. BACKGROUND: The continuous cultivation of rice–wheat in the same field is a key element of double‐cropping systems in the Indo‐Gangetic plains. Yields of such cropping systems are increasingly challenged as climate change drives increases in temperature, terminal stress and uneven rainfall, delaying rice harvesting and subsequently delaying sowing of wheat. In this paper, we evaluate the optimum sowing dates to achieve high grain yield and quality of wheat cultivars in northwest India. Three cultivars of wheat, HD‐2967, HD‐3086 and PBW‐723, were sown on three different dates at the research farm of ICAR‐IARI, New Delhi, to generate different weather conditions at different phenological stages. Different biophysical attributes, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate, were measured at different phenological stages. Yield and grain quality parameters such as protein, starch, amylopectin, amylose and gluten were measured in different cultivars sown on different dates. RESULTS: Biophysical parameters were found to be higher in timely sown crops followed by late‐sown and very late‐sown crops. Further, the different sowing dates had a significant (P < 0.05) impact on the grain quality parameters such as protein, starch, amylopectin, amylose and gluten content. Percentage increases in the value of starch and amylose content under timely sown were ~7% and 11.6%, ~5% and 8.4%, compared to the very late‐sown treatment. In contrast, protein and amylopectin contents were found to increase by ~9.7% and 7.5%, ~13.8% and 16.6% under very late‐sown treatment. CONCLUSION: High‐temperature stress during the grain‐filling periods significantly decreased the grain yield. Reduction in the grain yield was associated with a reduction in starch and amylose content in the grains. The protein content in the grains is less affected by terminal heat stress. Cultivar HD‐3086 had higher growth, yield as well as quality parameters, compared to HD‐2967 and PBW‐723 in all treatments, hence could be adopted by farmers in northwest India. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. In this paper, I seek to explore the social nature of food in university hostels in India's capital city of New Delhi. With the increasing migration of students from smaller cities and towns to bigger cities searching for employment and education opportunities, hostels have become a preferred choice of accommodation because of their affordability and security. For many marginalised and economically poor students, these hostels are the only spaces where they can afford to live and eat. At the same time, hostels and university campuses have recently been in the spotlight as sites of resistance and social action. Discussions and debates around hostel fee hikes and food politics mean that there is a need to understand what hostel food represents for migrant students. While there is an attempt by universities to use hostel food to promote togetherness and belongingness, hostel food is also met with counter meanings. A study of hostel food offers us a lens to better understand the sources of contestation within the university and the reasons for protests by migrating students living in hostels. Background: Infections by multidrug‐resistant organisms (MDRO) are a major hurdle in hematopoietic stem‐cell transplants (HSCTs). Conditioning regimens lead to mucosal barrier injury, which in‐turn leads to transmigration of gut bacteria and sepsis. Pre‐transplant stool and throat surveillance cultures can guide empirical antibiotic policy during the neutropenic period. In this paper, we document colonization with MDRO in pre‐transplant surveillance cultures and the correlation with bloodstream infections in HSCT patients and analyze transplant outcomes with respect to these infections. Methods: A single‐center, retrospective study on HSCT was performed between January 2021 and December 2021. The incidence of bacterial infections, percentage of MDROs, correlation with pre‐transplant stool/throat surveillance cultures, and their impact on overall 100‐day and post‐100‐day to 6‐month post‐transplant survival were analyzed. Results: Sixty‐four patients were included in the study. Pre‐transplant stool surveillance cultures were positive for MDRO in 85.9% of patients. Almost half (48.5%) of the isolates were positive for carbapenemase‐producing genes (mainly New Delhi metallo‐beta‐lactamase‐1 [NDM‐1] and oxacillinase‐48 [OXA‐48]). Eighteen patients (18/64, 28%) had a positive blood culture for MDRO in the peri‐engraftment neutropenic period. Correlation between surveillance and blood cultures was seen in 61% (11/18) of patients. All‐cause mortality was 14.1% (9/64) and 25% (16/64) in patients at 100 days and 6 months post‐HSCT, respectively. The 100‐day and post‐100‐day all‐cause mortality rates were higher in patients with Gram‐negative MDRO bloodstream infections (p <.012 and <.008, respectively). Conclusion: MDRO infections can adversely affect HSCT outcomes. Pre‐transplant stool and throat surveillance cultures may guide empirical antibiotic policy and lead to favorable transplant outcomes. In this paper we offer a critical analysis of the media discourse around an anti-sexual violence comic book, Priya's Shakti (2013), which tells the story of a victim of gang rape who becomes an unlikely "superhero" in a crusade to end sexual violence. The comic was created by an Indian American filmmaker, Ram Devineni, in response to the horrific gang rape and murder of a young woman in New Delhi in 2012 (the Nirbhaya case). Positioning a rape victim from rural India as a protagonist with power, it was widely applauded as a means of changing the disempowering discourse surrounding victim-survivors of sexual violence. However, we argue, the comic does not actually center Priya's experience, and instead renders Priya as marginal in her own story. Although the comic is marketed as promoting women's agency, in media coverage, Devineni is foregrounded as the agent of change. He is positioned as the perfect diasporic masculine saviour, both respectful of traditional culture and adequately progressive, educated, and modernized. The media spectacle of Priya's Shakti thus participates in a discursive move to replace the "White saviour" with a proxy—the diasporic Hindu masculine saviour—whilst keeping the underlying structures of both Hindu patriarchal power and US imperialism in place. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the use and implementation of RFID technology at the Indian Law Institute Library and National Social Science Documentation Centre Library, New Delhi. Design/methodology/approach - A survey was conducted at the two libraries, using a structured questionnaire comprising 20 questions. Findings - It was found that after implementation of RFID in both the libraries the check-in and check-out time is reduced to less than 20 seconds per item, and use of the libraries has also increased. Neither library had calculated the saving of staff time by performing multiple check-out and check-in of items. High cost is the most significant challenge faced after implementation of RFID technology. Originality/value - The paper provides the advantages of RFID technology for libraries and recommends this technology to other libraries for faster and better services to their users. This paper provides an improved soil classification scheme and associated spectral acceleration response curves along with the site amplification factors for the ongoing revision of IS 1893 Part-1 [BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards). 2016. Criteria for earthquake resistant design of structures. IS 1893-1. New Delhi, India: BIS]. A ground response analysis of 124 sites across India is conducted using the nonlinear procedure of DEEPSOIL. In addition to the classical geotechnical parameters NSPT , Su , and plasticity index (PI), the improved soil classification scheme also uses the fundamental period of a site (T0) and the average shear wave velocity to the seismic bedrock, instead of only VS,30. New site amplification factors (i.e., Fa and Fv) are proposed for all site classes of the improved soil classification scheme and compared with the amplification factors of other national codes. Further, elastic design response spectra are proposed for the improved soil classification scheme by considering the proposed site amplification factors (i.e., Fa and Fv). Religious spaces are an integral part of Indian cities. Unique in their spatiality, they function as socio-cultural hubs drawing users from varied economic and social hierarchies. This study deals with physical and perceptional assessments of micrometeorological conditions in two religious squares namely Hanuman Mandir Square (HMS) and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Square (GBS) located in New Delhi (28.6° N; 77.2° E), India. The study involved real-time physical measurement of environmental variables such as dry-bulb temperature (Ta, °C), globe temperature (Tg, °C), relative humidity (RH), and air velocity (Va). Variables such as physiological effective temperature (PET), universal thermal comfort index (UTCI), and mean radiant temperature (Tmrt, °C) were computed from measured variables. Concurrent thermal comfort surveys were carried out with 353 respondents in both the squares. The paper describes the thermal characteristics of the studied squares and presents the associated subjective thermal response and preferences of the users. PET was found to correlate well with the subjective responses. The neutral value of PET is found to be 24.7 °C. The neutral PET value of respondents visiting for non-worship purposes was found to be 2.7 °C lesser than those visiting for worship purposes. People visiting the squares for non-worship purpose however were found to be more tolerant of higher PET conditions as compared to others. Factors such as intent of visit, solar exposure, thermal history, and landscape elements were found to have a statistically significant influence on the thermal perception. The paper further summarizes the adaptive opportunities preferred by the users in order to improve thermal comfort in the studied squares. The present paper is an announcement of first absolute age dating directly on fossilized bones and teeth of the Pleistocene mammalian fauna from the Manjra valley, District Latur, Maharashtra, India. The fossilized samples were measured using the AMS facility at Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi, India. The results gave the time frame of 21,423 BP to 24,335 BP that correspond close to and the threshold of LGM and sheds important light on the palaeoecology of the area that supported diverse megafaunal species in the Upper Manjra valley. These calendar dates not only have wider significance in terms of first ever approximate chronological frame for the Pleistocene fauna in Peninsular India but also offer methodological innovations especially when the adequate bioapatite is absent in the fossilized bones and teeth from the fossil record. A new paradigm has been introduced by researchers in the field of data accessing at several mobile positions through implementation of WAN instead of cellular telephony. Based on range/coverage and network topology WAN taxonomy has been categorized as fixed network, mobile access network and ad – hoc network/wireless mesh networks respectively. Several interesting challenges has been posed by researchers in wireless networks such as routing, bandwidth, congestion, security, quality of service (QoS) and data rate enhancement. Of late, researchers around the world have started working in the domain of SHiP (Sparse, Hybrid, Intermittent and Partitioned) Network, which are plagued by several characteristics features such as: sporadic connections, intermittent routing, store – carry – forward type of message forwarding mechanism, dynamic network topology, transitive closure of message transmission, fluctuating network link, bottleneck probability, trust, and security in social networks. In this paper an outline of Oppnet (Opportunistic Network), part of SHiP Network has been presented with as in-depth coverage of routing problems and research challenges in it. Additionally, taxonomy of Oppnet routing protocols is illustrated with the features on basis of which categorization has been done. The paper attempts to capture the development of the Department of Pediatrics, Safdarjang Hospital, New Delhi, from a historical perspective in its founding years in late 1950s, showing the progress from its nascent state as a part of adult medicine to a full-fledged independent department with state-of-the-art advances in the 2020s. From an ordinary Pediatrics Department, it was reorganized radically to expand clinical facilities as well as education and research by innovative methods, developing subspecialties including an upgradation of the neonatology division, simultaneously establishing linkages with community level centres. The pioneering workshops for training obstetricians and pediatricians paved the way for initiation of multiple such national workshops across the country, by the Government of India, for establishment of neonatal care units countrywide. It was instrumental in the formulation of 'Essential Newborn Care' as the first national newborn care program and later a new concept of 'Mother and Neonatal Care Unit (M-NICU)' for perinatal care, apart from many other contributions for shaping national policies. Objective: This paper highlights the hydrocephalus research efforts undertaken at AIIMS, New Delhi, supporting progress in the field.Material: Over a period of three decades, basic research, clinical investigations, and multicentric studies were undertaken. This report will review the work mainly to emphasize the need for future generations to pursue further research. Studies that impacted hydrocephalus care (mainly in India) are described, and some of these findings may be useful in other resource-challenged situations.Results: Investigative studies on the effect of shunting on brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAER), transcranial Doppler (TCD), and CT-SPECT were published offering management options for patients. Participation in the International Infant Hydrocephalus Study (IIHS) study offered opportunities to compare our approaches and develop modifications in patient care. This effort proved shunting was equal or better for young children with congenital aqueductal stenosis. Shunt infection protocols and changes made in a systematic manner helped develop local protocols to reduce postoperative shunt infections.Conclusions: Hydrocephalus research over three decades at AIIMS, New Delhi was productive and educational, confirming that locally performed investigative work can help in decision making. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explain the components of competitive priorities of Indian service firms, to find out the competitive priorities of different service industries in India and to find out how these competitive priorities change across low- and high-performing service firms. Design/methodology/approach: An empirical study of 166 firms from five different service industries is undertaken in New Delhi and its surroundings. Findings: The results reveal the presence of three competitive priorities in the services sector in India: cost, flexibility and quality/delivery, with quality/delivery being the most distinctive competitive priority. Hotel and auto-repair industries are found to be focused on controlling costs, while hospitals, banks and private colleges prioritized quality/delivery. For high-performing firms, cost is the top most competitive priority, followed by quality/delivery and flexibility, while for low-performing firms, quality/delivery remains the top most competitive priority, followed by flexibility and cost. Originality/value: The paper enhances the understanding of competitive priorities in the Indian services sector. The identification of competitive priorities of different service industries in India and their dynamics across different industries add value to the current literature and fill an important research gap. This research paper presents a historical analysis of the unprecedented growth of dengue fever cases in Delhi (the capital city of India) during 2015 with an objective to identify factors responsible for its spread and suggest corrective measures to control the disease. The study was conducted based on secondary data with respect to dengue spread in Delhi from various sources, such as newspapers, published scientific research papers, internet, and news bulletins of the health organizations at the central and state governments in India. Data with respect to Ayurvedic treatment of dengue fever was from the selected employees of a private hospital in Faridabad (State of Haryana, India). As a result, two factors were identified to be responsible for the fast spread of dengue: climatic conditions and the delayed reaction of health organizations to control mosquitoes. Another unique finding in this study was that most patients go for Ayurvedic treatment at hospitals equipped with facilities for allopathy only. This study recommends that health organizations should invest in research about dengue, develop innovative methods for forecasting and reduce the treatment cost. In recent years considerable attention has been made by the psychologists, psychiatrists and mental health professionals on the psyche of women and their mental health but due to the lack of awareness by women about their condition the status of their mental health has not so changed and facilitated as it should be. Not only in India but in almost parts of the world the condition of women is more or less same. Truly speaking women are struggling and trying their best to prove them on social records. One side of the coin reveals that women are highly appreciated and regarded on the outer realm of society but the other side manifests that the actual situation is very pitiable. Keeping these views in consideration this major project funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi is started by the author and during data collection and roaming in the whirlpool of literature it has been noticed that pooling across age, marital status, job status and many other demographic conditions the situation of women is not so well and it has caused many physical deformities and psychological problems in them. The article discusses the issues focused upon in the Population Summit held in October 1993 in New Delhi, India. Organized by 15 of the world's scientific academies, this gathering was the first large-scale collaborative activity of its kind. It brought together academicians and other invited scholars representing over 60 scientific academies to examine the relationships between population, natural resources, and the environment. The massive volume that resulted from the summit, covering the invited papers plus some peripheral materials, was published quickly, well in time to serve as background papers for the September 1994 International Conference on Population and Development. The underlying theme in the New Delhi manifesto is the need for internationally coordinated planned action. Improved pricing, taxing and regulatory policies that take into account environmental costs, thereby influencing consumption behavior is an ambitious goal. In sum, to criticize the groping for social improvement is to attack virtue, virtuous people and the greatest offense of all, a reform-minded international bureaucracy.

Existing histories define tropical architecture as a neo-colonial modernist discourse - exported from London to the existing and former colonies - to continue the imperial relationship between Britain and the tropics even after decolonization. In modernist discourses, tropical architecture is seen as a strain of critical regionalism that nevertheless reinforces the relationship of London as the metropole to the tropics. This paper departs from these histories to show how one of the key actors in the field of tropical architecture - Otto Koenigsberger - developed his ideas not in London, but in princely Mysore and New Delhi in India. Koenigsberger was a German émigré architect who worked for the Maharaja (king) of Mysore's regime in India and later for the government of India. This paper argues that the genesis of Koenigsberger's ideas can be traced to his experience in India, making the notion that tropical architecture was a discourse developed in London and disseminated centrifugally in the tropics problematic. Manuscript type: Research paper Research aims: This study aims to investigate the factors influencing shared ride-hailing services, amongst commuters in India. Design/Methodology/Approach: Data collected across 355 respondents were analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM). Research findings: The findings reveal that all the four factors, i.e., the perceived use, perceived ease of use, trust and perceived risk, significantly influence commuter's intentions to use shared ridehailing service. Gender is found to moderate the relationship between perceived use, and the intention to use, as well as perceived risk and intention to use. This study however, does not find any empirical evidence to establish the moderation impact of car ownership on the relationship between perceived risk and the intention to use. Theoretical contribution/Originality: This study expands the previous literature by incorporating trust and perceived risk in examining the intention to use shared ride-hailing services. It also supplements previous works by examining gender and car ownership as the moderating variable. Practitioner/Policy implication: The findings suggest that marketers need to focus on strategies to reduce the risks associated with using shared ride-hailing services, especially amongst women riders. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of information communication technology (ICT) in 31 college libraries in Karnataka, India by investigating the ICT infrastructure, current status of library automation, barriers to implementation of library automation and also librarians' attitudes towards the use of ICT. Design/methodology/approach - Data-gathering tools used included questionnaire, observation and informal interview with selected college librarians. Findings - Application of ICT in Indian college libraries has not reached a very high level. Lack of budget, lack of manpower, lack of skilled staff and lack of training are the main constraints for not automating library activities. Even though library professionals have shown a positive attitude towards the use of ICT applications and library automation, they need extensive and appropriate training to make use of ICT tools. Originality/value - This is a comprehensive study on the use of ICT in Indian college libraries. Purpose: This study proposed and tested three comprehensive models of the usage intention of proximity mobile payment services after a government regulation, by integrating the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and the norm-activation model (NAM). The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of moral norms, merchant pro-activeness and perceived government regulation (demonetisation) on users' continuance intention of proximity mobile payment services. Design/methodology/approach: In total, 387 users of proximity mobile payment services in India were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. This study was carried out with shoppers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and New Delhi because of the diverse and large population of these cities. Findings: The results of this study indicated that: integrating the variables of NAM into the original TPB model enhanced the prediction effect; perceived demonetisation regulation exerted a direct determinant effect as well as moderate effect on continuance usage intention of mobile payment services; also, extended TPB model with perceived demonetisation regulation as moderator could satisfactorily predict the continuance usage intention. Research limitations/implications: The results provided insightful evidence for the government and policymakers to outline more effective mandatory regulation policies. Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia share some key symptoms which lead to misdiagnosis, especially on initial presentation. In this study, we have considered two categories of patients belonging to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder with (i) total duration of illness (TDI) less than or equal to 2 years and (ii) TDI greater than 2 years. We statistically test the difference between the severity of symptoms of the two groups as measured by their respective psychiatric rating scales using (or score tests), likelihood ratio and permutation tests for both categories of patients. The unknown parameters are estimated using maximum likelihood, moments by Cran and Bayesian estimation. It is observed that there exists a significant difference between the two disorders for patients in second category based on real and simulated data. Further, performance of statistic is compared on the basis of p-value and power performance with the other two methods. A new weight suggested in this paper is found to be as efficient as the previous weight based on simulation study. A retrospective data of 108 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorders is collected from Lady Hardinge Medical College & Smt. S.K. This paper explores the politics and governance issues underpinning small-scale informal service providers, to extract insights into how water provisioning for the poor works in the periphery of large cities. Drawing on exploratory field research in a large informal settlement at the urban fringe of New Delhi, we show that while informal network water providers ill a gap left by public delivery systems, residents are often captive consumers caught in a low service level trap. Moreover, dominant interests have little incentive to change this situation. The research indicates however, that a shift to better quality services can be realised and that the seeds of change lie in the evolving relationships between key stake- holders. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to identify the relevant antecedents of Human Resource policies for employees' satisfaction in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). It will also act as a model for metro revolution in India and empirically validate the relationship between these antecedents and employees' satisfaction (ES) towards facets of human resource policies (HRP). Design/methodology/approach - Data were generated from 543 employees' responses working in various places located in New Delhi and National Capital Region of India and analyzed objectively through questionnaire. Data have been collected through questionnaires designed on a five point Likert type scale. Mean, standard deviation and multiple regressions have been used to measure the impact. A combination of researcher-controlled and systematic sampling techniques were employed for the purpose of identifying the sample through convenient approach. Findings - The study revealed that facets of human resource policies towards employees' satisfaction have a significant and positive influence on the mindset of modern commuters. Additionally, it was revealed that particularly A and B grade employees are satisfied and they work with zeal and enthusiasm with positive impact of human resource policies. Hence, this all could be of great impact and emerged as predictor for employees' satisfaction in DMRC. Practical Implications - This understanding may greatly assist proactive metro revolutioners like DMRC in developing appropriate strategies to increase the propensity of satisfaction as a premium for the developing metro industry. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors influencing the behavioral intention to adopt payments banks services by Indian underbanked and unbanked population. Design/methodology/approach: The proposed model has assimilated factors from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) along with perceived credibility. The factors of UTAUT include performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitation of conditions and social influence. Apart from testing the direct relationships of the model constructs with the behavioral intention to adopt payments banks services, the study has also explored mediating and moderating effects of certain constructs. The research model has been empirically tested using 660 responses from a field survey conducted in New Delhi – the capital city of India – by using the structured equation modeling (SEM) technique. The target respondents of the study are small businessmen and migrant laborers who are either underbanked or unbanked. Findings: The findings of the study reveal that the model is able to explain 67.5 per cent of the variance in behavioral intention. The results indicate that all the factors are direct determinants of behavioral intention. Perceived credibility is found to be the strongest influencer of behavioral intention. The findings also indicate that perceived credibility partially mediates the relationships between "social influence and behavioral intention" and "performance expectancy and behavioral intention." The relationship between performance expectancy and behavioral intention is also found to be moderated by facilitating conditions and effort expectancy. Research limitations/implications: As this study is based on a convenience sample of respondents of only one city of India, this could negatively reflect on the generalizability of results across other cities. Moreover, the study has only focused on the perceptions of small businessmen and migrant laborers. This raises concerns regarding the applicability of the results for other segments of the current population that have different demographic characteristics (e.g. occupation, income, education level and technology experience). Modifying the conceptual model presented in this research to include "experience" and "age" as moderators can also be worth considering in future. Although this study has extended the UTAUT to include perceived credibility, the results of the explanatory power of the model indicate that there is still room for improvement. Therefore, including other constructs, e.g. hedonic motivation, perceived risks and trialability, could be a fruitful path forward. Future studies may also examine the factors influencing the actual use behavior of payments banks, rather than just behavioral intention. Practical implications: The study looks forward to providing the payments banks service providers in India with suitable guidelines for effectively implementing and designing payments banks services. Specifically, the results of this study have provided clues for Indian payments banks service providers about the crucial role of perceived credibility in influencing the behavioral intention to adopt payments banks. Therefore, service providers have to initially be sure that payments banks are able to conduct financial transactions efficiently, securely and within less time, along with the availability of information required by customers to successfully use the services. Service providers should enhance customer confidence and trust by providing secure and reliable services. They should also emphasize on the positive safety measures of the payments banks during any marketing campaign rather than just creating brand awareness. Originality/value: The study represents a substantial contribution to the existing knowledge regarding mobile payment channels in particular and technology acceptance area in general. In fact, this study presents a worthwhile direction by examining payments banks services, which, so far, have not been well evaluated in the Indian context. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is an early attempt toward a holistic and integrative approach to explain adoption of payments banks in India. Although prior studies have addressed mobile banking and mobile payment adoption, the strength of this research lies in combining the UTAUT constructs with perceived credibility. This paper attempts to highlight the Higher Educational programs being developed by Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC); in collaboration with various higher educational Institutions (HEIs); especially to run Web-based distance learning program. The Indian higher education scenario has changed drastically and there have been many changes due to the incorporation of e-education and globalization. University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi (apex body of higher education in India) in its 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) aims at achieving rapid expansion for deepening excellence and providing equal access to quality Higher Education. There has been an unprecedented growth in the number of institutions in recent years which has grown from 621 in 2010-11 to 799 in 2015-16 or by almost 30 per cent. The number of students enrolling to Higher Education has also witnessed exponential growth in last five years. As per AISHE report 2015-16 the enrolment has increased from approximately 29 million in 2011-12 to 34 million (approx) in 2015-16. Also there has been substantial progress in terms of overall Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in the country during the same period. Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) has increased during the last 5 years, from 20.8 in 2011- 12 to 24.5 in 2015-16. Considering the present trend both in number of institutions and students, introduction of online courses is a wise decision as it might help in filling the gap between number of students enrolling for Higher Education vis- a- vis new colleges and institutions being developed. The paper aims to compare and contrast pedagogic value of online courses developed by CEC largely in English as a medium of instruction and globally produced and used online coursewareby top international universities. Since higher education is offered both in over dozen state languages and in English there is a need to weigh the relevance and utility of online courses in English. The author raises the question as to how online courses are enhancing, the teaching and learning process; or help motivate and encourage students in their pursuit of higher education. In this study, we develop a new scale for measuring helicopter parenting of teenagers in India using a sample of 425 teenage students (aged 13–17 years) in the New Delhi education system. The Minor Teen Helicopter Parenting Scale consists of two validated factors of helicopter parenting we label: Pressure and Intrusion. Both factors demonstrated high validity through factor analysis procedures and high levels of reliability (0.804 and 0.709, respectively). Both pressure and intrusion were associated with academic performance and well-being outcomes. Both factors were an improvement over the Helicopter Parenting Scale (HPS) for this age group. Analysis of the HPS did not yield an acceptable reliability (0.422) for these teenagers under the age of 18. Pressure was more related academic performance and school-related outcomes. Intrusion was more associated with general well-being, self-reported health, and happiness. Results suggest the new measure with two subscales is a more age-appropriate tool for assessing helicopter parenting in parents of children not yet in the college or university life stage. With the increasing water scarcity and the demand for sustainable agriculture, precise estimation of crop evapotranspiration (ET) is crucial for effective irrigation management, crop yield assessment, and equitable water distribution, particularly in semi-arid regions. In this study, a large aperture scintillometer (LAS) was used to validate the remote sensing-based ET model SETMI (Spatial Evapotranspiration Modeling Interface) in an irrigated maize-wheat cropping system in a semi-arid region at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. Results obtained by the SETMI model depicted modeled surface energy fluxes compared well with LAS field data, showing a very high R2 (0.83–0.95) and NRMSE (8–29%). The SETMI model performed better in the case of the maize crop than the wheat crop in field experiments. Further, the SETMI model was employed at the regional level using high-resolution Sentinel-2 to estimate the regional water productivity of wheat crops over a semi-arid region in India. The estimated regional, seasonal wheat actual ET mainly ranged between 101 mm and 325 mm. The regional wheat water productivity varied from 0.9 kg m−3 to 2.20 kg m−3. Our research reveals that the SETMI model can give reliable estimates of regional wheat water productivity by examining its spatial and temporal fluctuations and facilitating the creation of regional benchmark values. KPO Experts India has indicated that Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) is a step ahead of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), referring to it as a process chain consisting of high-value-added activities. The fulfillment of business objectives in a KPO engagement model depends to a large extent on domain knowledge, analytical and execution skills, and experience and business expertise. Traditionally, the strongest talking point for marketing the KPO concept was the price advantage that India offered. Cost-benefit used to be the primary value proposition in almost every KPO marketing strategy in earlier times, and was considered to be the major advantage, based on which India was likely to constitute the $17 bn global KPO market, as forecast by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM). However, the cost advantage is seen to be waning in recent times. Labor costs are increasing due to rising salaries and real estate rates are formidable, despite the recession. Hence, KPO firms have moved away from projecting the cost advantage as their primary value proposition to prospects, even as a whole new range of benefits from outsourcing have emerged, such as access to high-quality manpower on demand, subject matter expertise, scalable infrastructure, objective perspective in analytical services and streamlined processes. The rationale behind this paper is to stimulate reflection, open a debate and provide its readers with some much overlooked perspectives, perceptions and approaches from China, India and the Tibetan émigrés in India as regards the Tibet issue. These are formulated on the basis of author's interviews and enquiries with the representatives of the Dalai Lama's Tibetan Government in Exile, the leaders of Tibetan Youth Congress, the representatives of Students for a Free Tibet, as well as the Tibetan émigré in India and ordinary Indians. Besides, the paper also throws light on major differences and contradiction between India and China over Tibet issue; the future course of the Tibetan movement; and explores the possibilities of establishing a mechanism between India and China on Tibet. Parents’ beliefs and ethnotheories about family life in general and childcare in particular contain explicit and implicit ideas about the manner in which children ought to be raised. Cultural scripts, family situations, and parents’ own beliefs and experiences have been known to guide parenting choices. Cultural practices in India have been deeply influenced by the textured history of external influence. In present times, increased mobility, changes in occupation, and global influences are exerting new pressures on the enduring character of the Indian family. This paper addresses the domain of parental beliefs about patterns of interactions within the family and their understanding of children’s agency. The underlying assumption is that parents in urban middle-class families will be focusing on issues of agency and autonomy for children on account of perceived changes in social expectations. The paper explores the mediations that adults report between the traditional expectations of conformity and persuasive thrust for autonomy when it comes to beliefs about and expectations of their children. The paper specifically addresses the beliefs of mothers with children 3—6 years old, living in New Delhi, India. ‘Elective interdependence’ is the term we have used to describe the deliberate fluctuation of self—other boundaries as mothers negotiate relationships with others for their children and for themselves.
