This study aimed to determine the prevalence of and risk factors associated with BV(bacterial vaginosis, BV), VVC (vulvovaginal candidiasis, VVC) and TV (trichomonal vaginitis, TV) among non-pregnant women. Among 770 women included in analyses, surveyed using a questionnaire and subsequently diagnosed with BV, VVC and TV via Gram staining and vaginal swab microscopy. Vaginal infections were prevalent in 31.30%, with BV being the most prevalent (21.35%). Single-variable analysis revealed that an age of 20–29 years (odds ratio [OR] = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.24–4.29; p =.007) and lack of education (OR = 0.50, 95% CI: 0.28-0.89; p =.018) were significantly associated with BV. However, an age of 30–39 years was significantly associated with VVC (OR = 2.12, 95% CI: 1.03–4.38; p =.038). Multivariable analysis confirmed that miscarriage was an independent predictor of BV and VVC. Miscarriage was significantly associated with the incidence of BV and VVC (OR = 1.680, 95% CI: 1.146–2.462; p =.011 and OR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.30–3.20; p =.002, respectively). In conclusion, BV appears to be the predominant cause of vaginitis, risk factors for vaginitis include age and level of education and miscarriage. What is already known on this subject? Inflammation of the vagina, or vaginitis, is caused by various infectious and non-infectious factors. The most common causes of infectious vaginitis are BV, VVC and TV. Kunming located at the southwestern border of China, However, there is still no systematic research investigating the status of vaginitis infection in Yunnan Province. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the prevalence of these vaginal infections; BV, VVC, and TV, among women of childbearing age, and to assess the prevalence of vaginal infections and the associated risk factors. What do the results of this study add? In our study we found that vaginal infections were prevalent in 31.30% of reproductive-age women, with BV being the most prevalent (21.35%). We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because we report that BV appears to be the predominant cause of vaginitis, followed by VVC and TV. Risk factors for vaginitis include age, miscarriage and level of education. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a heterogeneous condition that increases the risk for serious health complications among women. Thus, in this study, we aimed to identify polymorphisms in the KiSS-1 and GPR54 genes and investigate the associations between KiSS-1, BMI, FSH, LH, and estradiol in Chinese women with PCOS. This study recruited women with PCOS (n = 60) and controls (n = 60). We collected blood samples and measured endocrine indicators (kisspeptin, FSH, LH–FSH ratio, estradiol, prolactin, and testosterone). PCR and Snapshots were performed to screen single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the KiSS-1 and GPR54 genes. Compared with the controls, endocrine and metabolic disturbances in women with PCOS were reflected in significantly higher levels of BMI, LH, LH–FSH ratio, prolactin, and testosterone. Serum kisspeptin levels were significantly higher and positively correlated with LH and T levels (p < 0.05). No identified SNPs of KiSS-1 and GPR54 showed significant differences in frequency between patients and controls. The mutant G allele was highly predisposed to polymorphism in the PCOS GPR54 gene r10407968. We observed a significant difference in estradiol (p = 0.023, p = 0.012) after comparing the values of LH, FSH, estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone among the three genotypes of rs4889 and rs5780218. The KiSS-1 rs4889 CC genotype and rs5780218 AA genotype showed significantly higher estradiol levels compared with the other two genotypes. Sexual transmission is currently the main mode of transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In this study, 181 HIV‐infected female cross‐border travelers entering Yunnan province were recruited between 2003 and 2012. HIV RNAs were extracted from their frozen serum and gag‐pol gene sequences were obtained for phylogenetic and recombination analyses. In total, 131 gag‐pol gene sequences were obtained successfully, at a rate of 72.4%. The most prevalent subtypes were CRF01_AE, followed by CRF08_BC, subtypes B and C. The other four subjects were classified as undefined subtypes and other recombinants. The subtype distribution of intravenous drug users was significantly different from that of sexually transmitted infections and unknown groups. The genetic distances of subtype B, C, and CRF01_AE strains were all close to the reference sequences from Yunnan province and Southeast Asian countries. Gene diversity and cocirculation of multiple subtypes were observed in female cross‐border travelers, and CRF01_AE was the dominant epidemic subtype. The advantages of these subtype preferences for sexual transmission were obvious in HIV infection and transmission among this population. Our findings also suggest that close attention should be given to the HIV infection status of the female migrant population. In addition, a description of their epidemic characteristics is significant for the surveillance and prevention of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in the Yunnan province. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
