Abstract

Phosphoric acid-doped polybenzimidazole (PA-doped PBI) membranes enable high-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs) to operate at elevated temperature (140–180 °C), with the advantages of simplified water/heat management. However, the relatively long start-up time and insufficient performance due to the introduction of the liquid phosphoric acid electrolyte are still major barriers to the application of HT-PEMFCs. Herein, a series of alkyl-substituted poly(arylene piperidinium) membranes are designed to modulate the content and distribution of phosphoric acid, which significantly reduces the ohmic and mass transfer resistance and boosts the performance of HT-PEMFCs in a wide operational temperature range. By tailoring the pendant alkyl groups of the piperidinium cations, the steric hindrance around the piperidinium cations and the free volume of poly(arylene piperidinium) can be well regulated. The optimized isobutyl-substituted poly(arylene piperidinium) membrane shows a high acid doping level (10.05) and a relatively high proton conductivity. As a result, a PEMFC based on this membrane shows significantly low ohmic and mass transfer resistances, consequently enhancing the peak power density of the HT-PEMFC to >1.5 W cm−2 at a moderate temperature of 120 °C under H2/O2 conditions. Abstract

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a prevalent psychiatric disorder during the postnatal period, and it exerts adverse impacts not only on mothers but also on infants, impairing the well‐being of the whole family. However, the role of peptides in the breast milk of mothers with PPD has not been studied. The purpose of this study was to unveil the peptidomic profile of PPD from breast milk samples. Methods: We performed comparative peptidomic profiling of human breast milk from PPD and control mothers using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry technology with iTRAQ‐8 labelling. GO and KEGG pathway analyses of precursor proteins were used to predict the underlying biological functions of differentially expressed peptides (DEPs). Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) was further performed to explore the interactions and involved pathways of DEPs. Results: A total of 294 peptides from 62 precursor proteins were identified to be differentially expressed in the breast milk of PPD mothers compared with the control group. Bioinformatics analysis predicted that these DEPs were associated with ECM–receptor interaction, neuroactive ligand‐receptor interaction, cell adhesion molecule binding and oxidative stress in macrophages. These results indicate that DEPs from human breast milk may play a part in PPD and become promising noninvasive biomarkers. Peptides from human breast milk were expected to be noninvasive biomarkers for postpartum depression. Bioinformatics analysis of differentially expressed peptides found that the pathogenesis of postpartum depression was closely related to ECM remodelling and macrophage‐mediated inflammation. Abstract

The H3PO4 poisoning problem severely limits the performance of high‐temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT‐PEMFCs) using the H3PO4‐doped polybenzimidazole as electrolyte membrane. Herein, the micropore‐rich carbon shell‐confined Pt‐based nanoparticles (Pt@MPC) with a Pt loading of 44.9 wt% is developed as the H3PO4 poisoning‐resistant electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), which possesses both high ORR activity and stability. The half‐wave potential (E1/2) of 0.898 V and electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) of 62.3 m2 gPt−1 are superior to commercial 40 wt% Pt/C (E1/2 = 0.892 V; ECSA = 53.1 m2 gPt−1). Pt@MPC remains almost unchanged after the accelerated durability test of 10 000 cycles. Moreover, Pt@MPC exhibits remarkable H3PO4 tolerance as its negative shift of E1/2 (82 mV) is less in H3PO4‐containing electrolyte compared with commercial Pt/C (114 mV). This can be attributed to the steric effect of the micropore‐rich carbon, which enables the selective transport of reactants while inhibiting H3PO4. The HT‐PEMFCs assembled with Pt@MPC (0.7 mgPt cm−2) exhibit a maximum power density of 674 mW cm−2 under the H2‐O2 condition and outperform the commercial Pt/C (616 mW cm−2). This strategy provides a new direction for the design of ORR catalysts toward HT‐PEMFCs with better phosphoric acid poisoning resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
