Multifactorial optimization (MFO) is a kind of optimization problem that has attracted considerable attention in recent years. The multifactorial evolutionary algorithm utilizes the implicit genetic transfer mechanism characterized by knowledge transfer to conduct evolutionary multitasking simultaneously. Therefore, the effectiveness of knowledge transfer significantly affects the performance of the algorithm. To achieve positive knowledge transfer, this paper proposed an evolutionary multitasking optimization algorithm with adaptive transfer strategy based on the decision tree (EMT-ADT). To evaluate the useful knowledge contained in the transferred individuals, this paper defines an evaluation indicator to quantify the transfer ability of each individual. Furthermore, a decision tree is constructed to predict the transfer ability of transferred individuals. Based on the prediction results, promising positive-transferred individuals are selected to transfer knowledge, which can effectively improve the performance of the algorithm. Finally, CEC2017 MFO benchmark problems, WCCI20-MTSO and WCCI20-MaTSO benchmark problems are used to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm EMT-ADT. Targeting the issues of slow speed and inadequate precision of optimal solution calculation for multi-user detection in complex noise environments, this paper proposes a multi-user detection algorithm based on a Hybrid Cheetah Optimizer (HCO). The algorithm first optimizes the control parameters and individual update mechanism of the Cheetah Optimizer (CO) algorithm using a nonlinear strategy to improve the uniformity and discretization of the individual search range, and then dynamically introduces a differential evolutionary algorithm into the improved selection mechanism of the CO algorithm, which is utilized to fine-tune the solution space and maintain the local diversity during the fast search process. Simulation results demonstrate that this detection algorithm not only realizes fast convergence with a very low bit error rate (BER) at eight iterations but also has obvious advantages in terms of noise immunity, resistance to far and near effects, communication capacity, etc., which greatly improves the speed and accuracy of optimal position solving for multi-user detection and can achieve the purpose of accurate solving in complex environments. The phasmatodea population evolution algorithm (PPE) is a recently proposed meta-heuristic algorithm based on the evolutionary characteristics of the stick insect population. The algorithm simulates the features of convergent evolution, population competition, and population growth in the evolution process of the stick insect population in nature and realizes the above process through the population competition and growth model. Since the algorithm has a slow convergence speed and falls easily into local optimality, in this paper, it is mixed with the equilibrium optimization algorithm to make it easier to avoid the local optimum. Based on the hybrid algorithm, the population is grouped and processed in parallel to accelerate the algorithm's convergence speed and achieve better convergence accuracy. On this basis, we propose the hybrid parallel balanced phasmatodea population evolution algorithm (HP_PPE), and this algorithm is compared and tested on the CEC2017, a novel benchmark function suite. The results show that the performance of HP_PPE is better than that of similar algorithms. Finally, this paper applies HP_PPE to solve the AGV workshop material scheduling problem. Feature Selection (FS) is an important problem that involves selecting the most informative subset of features from a dataset to improve classification accuracy.However, due to the high dimensionality and complexity of the dataset, most optimization algorithms for feature selection suffer fromabalance issue during the search process.Therefore, the present paper proposes a hybrid Sine-Cosine Chimp Optimization Algorithm(SCChOA) to address the feature selection problem. In this approach, firstly, a multi-cycle iterative strategy is designed to better combine the Sine- Cosine Algorithm (SCA) and the Chimp Optimization Algorithm (ChOA), enabling a more effective search in the objective space. Secondly, an S-shaped transfer function is introduced to perform binary transformation on SCChOA. Finally, the binary SCChOA is combined with the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classifier to form a novel binary hybrid wrapper feature selectionmethod. To evaluate the performance of the proposedmethod, 16 datasets from different dimensions of theUCI repository along with four evaluationmetrics of average fitness value, average classification accuracy, average feature selection number, and average running time are considered. Meanwhile, seven state-of-the-artmetaheuristic algorithms for solving the feature selection problemare chosen for comparison. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other compared algorithms in solving the feature selection problem. It is capable of maximizing the reduction in the number of selected features while maintaining a high classification accuracy. For large-scale multiobjective evolutionary algorithms based on the grouping of decision variables, the challenge is to design a stable grouping strategy to balance convergence and population diversity. This paper proposes a large-scale multiobjective optimization algorithm with two alternative optimization methods (LSMOEA-TM). In LSMOEA-TM, two alternative optimization methods, which adopt two grouping strategies to divide decision variables, are introduced to efficiently solve large-scale multiobjective optimization problems. Furthermore, this paper introduces a Bayesian-based parameter-adjusting strategy to reduce computational costs by optimizing the parameters in the proposed two alternative optimization methods. Many large-scale multiobjective optimization problems with large decision space hinder the convergence search of evolutionary algorithms in various practical applications. Using the divide-and-conquer strategy to decompose the large-scale multiobjective problem into some subproblems and collaborative optimization is an effective strategy. However, the interactions between decision variables may cause many indirect interactions, which make complex high-dimensional problems impossible to decompose successfully using existing decomposition techniques. This paper proposes a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm with overlapping decomposition and adaptive reference point selection (MOEA-ODAR) for solving large-scale multiobjective problems. First, a decision variable overlap decomposition approach is suggested to group decision variables into several exclusive subcomponents. An adaptive resource allocation ensemble optimization method is then proposed to allocate corresponding resources to subcomponents with different structures. Finally, an adaptive reference point selection method based on Pareto shape estimation is designed to optimize the specific subcomponents. The theoretical analysis of the correctness of overlapping decomposition decision variables and collaborative optimization is presented. It is compared with the newly proposed excellent large-scale multiobjective optimization algorithm on many test problems. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs better in terms of convergence, population distributivity, and computational efficiency. This paper introduces an evolutionary algorithm for n-dimensional single objective optimization problems: One-Dimensional Subspaces Optimization Algorithm (1D-SOA). The algorithm starts with an initial population in randomly selected positions. For each individual, a percentage of the total number of dimensions is selected, each dimension corresponding to a one-dimensional subspace. Later, it performs a symmetric search for the nearest local optima in all the selected one-dimensional subspaces (1D-S), for each individual at a time. The search stops if the new position does not improve the value of the objective function over all the selected 1D-S. The performance of the algorithm was compared against 11 algorithms and tested with 30 benchmark functions in 2 dimensions (D) and 30D. Purpose: This paper aims at making a comparison of three optimization algorithms – standard Genetic Algorithm and its two modifications: Extended Compact Genetic Algorithm and Population-based Incremental Learning. Design/methodology/approach: To reach the objectives of the paper the solver based on algorithms was developed. Certain test functions were applied to test them and evaluate their performance. Findings: Modifications of Genetic Algorithm reach optimal values faster and more precisely. With the development of current computing technology, workflow applications have become more important in a variety of fields, including research, education, health care, and scientific experimentation. A group of tasks with complicated dependency relationships constitute the workflow applications. It can be difficult to create an acceptable execution sequence while maintaining precedence constraints. Workflow scheduling algorithms (WSA) are gaining more attention from researchers as a real-time concern. Even though a variety of research perspectives have been demonstrated for WSAs, it remains challenging to develop a single coherent algorithm that simultaneously meets a variety of criteria. There is very less research available on WSA in the heterogeneous computing system. Classical scheduling techniques, evolutionary optimisation algorithms, and other methodologies are the available solution to this problem. The workflow scheduling problem is regarded as NP-complete. This problem is constrained by various factors, such as Quality of Service, interdependence between tasks, and user deadlines. In this paper, an efficient meta-heuristic approach named Multi-objective Artificial Algae (MAA) algorithm is presented for scheduling scientific workflows in a hierarchical fog-cloud environment. In the first phase, the algorithm pre-processes scientific workflow and prepares two task lists. In order to speed up execution, bottleneck tasks are executed with high priority. The MAA algorithm is used to schedule tasks in the following stage to reduce execution times, energy consumption and overall costs. In order to effectively use fog resources, the algorithm also utilises the weighted sum-based multi-objective function. The proposed approach is evaluated using five benchmark scientific workflow datasets. To verify the performance, the proposed algorithm's results are compared to those of conventional and specialised WSAs. In comparison to previous methodologies, the average results demonstrate significant improvements of about 43% in execution time, 28% in energy consumption and 10% in total cost without any trade-offs. The evolutionary game theory aims to simulate different decision strategies in populations of individuals and to determine how the population evolves. Compared to strategies between two agents, such as cooperation or noncooperation, strategies on multiple agents are rather challenging and difficult to be simulated via traditional methods. Particularly, in a knowledge spillover problem (KSP), cooperation strategies among more than hundreds of individuals need to be simulated. At the same time, the brain storm optimization (BSO) algorithm, which is a data-driven and model-driven hybrid paradigm, has the potential to simulate the complex behaviors in a group of simple individuals. In this paper, a modified BSO algorithm has been used to solve KSP from the perspective of evolutionary game theory. Knowledge spillover (KS) is the sharing or exchanging of knowledge resources among individuals. Firstly, the KS and evolutionary game theory were introduced. Then, the KS model and KS optimization problems were built from the evolutionary game perspective. Lastly, the modified BSO algorithms were utilized to solve KS optimization problems. Based on the applications of BSO algorithms for KSP, the properties of different swarm optimization algorithms can be understood better. The multi-objective optimization (MOO) of complex systems remains a challenging task in engineering domains. The methodological approach of applying MOO algorithms to simulation-enabled models has established itself as a standard. Despite increasing in computational power, the effectiveness and efficiency of such algorithms, i.e., their ability to identify as many Pareto-optimal solutions as possible with as few simulation samples as possible, plays a decisive role. However, the question of which class of MOO algorithms is most effective or efficient with respect to which class of problems has not yet been resolved. To tackle this performance problem, hybrid optimization algorithms that combine multiple elementary search strategies have been proposed. Despite their potential, no systematic approach for selecting and combining elementary Pareto search strategies has yet been suggested. In this paper, we propose an approach for designing hybrid MOO algorithms that uses reinforcement learning (RL) techniques to train an intelligent agent for dynamically selecting and combining elementary MOO search strategies. We present both the fundamental RL-Based Hybrid MOO (RLhybMOO) methodology and an exemplary implementation applied to mathematical test functions. This paper focuses on the use of truss topology optimization using an evolutionary approach to find optimized, additively manufactured components through a multi-objective formulation, keeping in mind application areas like 3D printing. Additive manufacturing plays a key role here, as the inherent complexity of most optimized truss structures would not allow for any different manufacturing techniques. The multi-optimization formulation consists of optimizing two conflicting objectives: minimization of structural compliance and minimization of heat flowing from the structure to its supports. Many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs) are challenging tasks involving optimizing many conflicting objectives simultaneously. Decomposition-based many-objective evolutionary algorithms have effectively maintained a balance between convergence and diversity in recent years. However, these algorithms face challenges in accurately approximating the complex geometric structure of irregular Pareto fronts (PFs). In this paper, an information entropy-driven evolutionary algorithm based on reinforcement learning (RL-RVEA) for many-objective optimization with irregular Pareto fronts is proposed. The proposed algorithm leverages reinforcement learning to guide the evolution process by interacting with the environment to learn the shape and features of PF, which adaptively adjusts the distribution of reference vectors to cover the PFs structure effectively. Moreover, an information entropy-driven adaptive scalarization approach is designed in this paper to reflect the diversity of nondominated solutions, which facilitates the algorithm to balance multiple competing objectives adaptively and select solutions efficiently while maintaining individual diversity. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the RL-RVEA compared with seven state-of-the-art algorithms on the DTLZ, MaF, and WFG test suites and four real-world MaOPs. Today, intelligent optimization has become a science that few researchers have not used in dealing with problems in their field. Diversity and flexibility have made the use, efficiency, and usefulness of various nature-inspired optimization methods, such as evolutionary and meta-heuristic algorithms, more evident in such problems. This work first provides a comprehensive overview of all considerations governing various optimization problems with detailed corresponding categories. Then, the most comprehensive review and recent methods (during 1965–2022) are presented in evolution-based, swarm-based, physics-based, human-based, and hybrid-based categories. More than 320 new algorithms have been reviewed. All specifications including authors, year, abbreviation, inspired source, controls, and their application are considered in this regard. Statistical analyzes of papers and publishers, annually and for 57 years, along with their ranking, are also examined in detail. Aiming at the problems of single optimization strategy and poor comprehensive performance of MOFA, multi-objective firefly algorithm with adaptive region division is proposed in this paper. By leveraging the convergence index, our algorithm intelligently divides the dominant and non-dominant solution groups into three sub-regions, namely balance, exploration, and development areas, each with a distinct learning strategy that complements the strengths of fireflies. Specifically, fireflies in the balance area learn from global optimal particles with diversity to achieve a balanced exploration and development ability. Fireflies in the exploration area jointly learn from globally optimal particles with convergence and diversity, increasing the algorithm's likelihood of discovering Pareto optimal solutions. Lastly, fireflies in the development area rapidly converge under the guidance of the globally optimal particle of convergence, thus improving the algorithm's development ability. To further enhance the comprehensive optimization performance, we introduce a novel fusion index as an external archive update strategy that preserves solutions with superior convergence and diversity. The parameters of support vector machines (SVMs) such as kernel parameters and the penalty parameter have a great influence on the accuracy and complexity of the classification models. In the past, different evolutionary optimization algorithms were employed for optimizing SVMs; in this paper, we propose a social ski-driver (SSD) optimization algorithm which is inspired from different evolutionary optimization algorithms for optimizing the parameters of SVMs, with the aim of improving the classification performance. To cope with the problem of imbalanced data which is one of the challenging problems for building robust classification models, the proposed algorithm (SSD-SVM) was enhanced to deal with imbalanced data. In this study, eight standard imbalanced datasets were used for testing our proposed algorithm. For verification, the results of the SSD-SVM algorithm are compared with grid search, which is a conventional method of searching parameter values, and particle swarm optimization (PSO). The experimental results show that the SSD-SVM algorithm is capable of finding near-optimal values of SVMs parameters. Reinforcement Learning (RL) has gained significant popularity in recent years for its ability to solve complex control problems. However, most existing RL algorithms are designed to train policies for each environment in isolation, limiting their applicability to real-world scenarios with many related environments. Recently, many multitask optimization algorithms have been proposed and successfully applied to a wide range of optimization problems. However, existing studies mainly focus on solving multiple continuous function benchmarks and overlook the potential of tailoring towards RL. In this paper, we propose a simple multitask optimization algorithm called Multitask Augmented Random Search (MARS) that trains multiple RL agents together and exploits the performance surplus from highly correlated tasks. MARS is a modification of the simple random search Augmented Random Search (ARS) algorithm, which has been shown to outperform complicated methods in solving continuous control MuJoCo environments such as Soft Actor-Critic (SAC), Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO), and Trusted Region Policy Optimization (TRPO). In this paper, a multi-operator differential evolution algorithm (MODE) is proposed to solve the Optimal Power Flow problem, called MODE-OPF. The MODE-OPF utilizes the strengths of more than one differential evolution operator in a single algorithmic framework. Additionally, an adaptive method is proposed to update the number of solutions evolved by each DE operator based on both the diversity of the population and the quality of solutions. This adaptive method has the ability to maintain diversity at the early stages of the optimization process and boost convergence at the later ones. The performance of the proposed MODE-OPF is tested by solving OPF problems for both small and large IEEE bus systems (i.e., IEEE-30 and IEEE-118) while considering intermittent solar and wind power generation. To prove the suitability of this proposed algorithm, its performance has been compared against several state-of-the-art optimization algorithms, where MODE-OPF outperforms other algorithms in all experimental results thereby improving a network's performance with lower cost. This paper introduces a novel surrogate-assisted multi-objective nutcracker optimization algorithm. This algorithm is built upon the recently proposed nutcracker optimization algorithm, drawing inspiration from the behaviours observed in Clark's nutcrackers. The algorithm is developed based on two distinct behaviours exhibited by these birds. To comprehensively evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, a dual-pronged approach is adopted. On the one hand, a set of artificial test problems is employed to scrutinize the algorithm's capabilities, while on the other hand, a set of real-world problems is considered to assess its practical efficacy. The results of the proposed algorithm are evaluated in comparison to existing baseline algorithms and state-of-the-art algorithms, using well-recognized performance metrics, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This paper proposes a hybrid bio-inspired search and optimization algorithm that combines the strengths of the PB3C (Parallel Big Bang Big Crunch) and 3PGA (3 Parent Genetic Algorithm) algorithms. The hybrid algorithm employs a single population-based evolutionary search coupled with multi-population parallel processing techniques to address optimization problems. The proposed algorithm is implemented in MATLAB software. We evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm on the CEC2021 standard test bench suite. The performance of the proposed approach is compared with that of the other nine algorithms. The comparative analysis shows that the proposed hybrid PB3C and 3PGA algorithms performed better than the other nine optimization algorithms. Furthermore, this chapter proposes an HPB3C-3PGA-based approach to evolve the near-optimal architecture of CNN. The proposed plant image classification approach is implemented in Python and compared with 12 other approaches. The proposed approach achieved an accuracy of 98.96% on the Mendeley dataset and 98.97% on the CVIP100 dataset. The proposed approach outperforms all other approaches for the plant leaf classification problem. Combinatorial optimization problems (COPs) play an important role in both industrial production and theoretical research. As a classical class of optimization algorithms, evolutionary algorithms have shown good performance in COPs. However, as the size of the problem increases, it becomes difficult for evolutionary algorithms to produce satisfactory solutions within the specified time. In recent years, neural network algorithms have been applied to solve COPs and have shown superior effects. Inspired by this, this paper proposes a new algorithm based on graph structure for solving COPs. Through relaxation, COPs are transformed into their corresponding continuous optimization problems. The output state of our algorithm is converted to a discrete solution by approximation method. Compared with previous algorithms, our algorithm can not only solve COPs with general form such as binary quadratic programming (BQP), but also solve COPs with special form, which greatly expands the application scope of neural network algorithms. In addition, our algorithm can be embedded into other problem frameworks such as solving multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem (MOCOP) through scalarization method. A new penalty function is added to the objective function, which enables our algorithm to overcome the inconsistency between the optimal solution of the original problem and the corresponding continuous problem, so that our algorithm can perform well on various problems. Several numerical simulations are used to illustrate the effectiveness of our algorithm in solving COPs. Many real-world problems can be abstracted as multimodal global optimization, which is one of the main challenges for optimization algorithms due to its complexity. The fireworks algorithm (FWA) is a swarm intelligence optimization algorithm that has been widely studied and applied by virtue of the synergistic property among fireworks. Current FWA variants have poor exploitation capability to handle some locally complex multimodal functions, which greatly limits the application of the FWA to practical problems. To solve the above problems, in this paper, we propose the multi-guiding spark fireworks algorithm (MGFWA) to solve multimodal functions by enhancing FWA exploitation capabilities. Three different strategies which are boosted guiding vector, multi-guiding sparks, and population-based random mapping are designed to boost the guiding vector, enrich the guiding spark diversity, and fix the mapping function, separately. The validity and parameter setting of MGFWA are theoretically analyzed. Experimentally, the results on the CEC2013 and CEC2017 single objective optimization benchmarks illustrate the remarkable performance of the MGFWA compared to other typical optimization algorithms and FWA variants. Moreover, the ablation study shows each of the three parts plays an important role in the algorithm and the efficiency experiment shows the MGFWA can improve the efficiency of guiding sparks by 10%. Decomposition-based multiobjective evolutionary algorithms are widely utilized for solving multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). These algorithms have a higher degree of diversity due to a uniform distribution of the reference vectors in the objective space. However, these algorithms may struggle to select a suitable candidate set for solving many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs) with irregular Pareto fronts (PFs). To solve this problem, a solution potential-based adaptation reference vector evolutionary algorithm (SPARVEA) is proposed in this paper. In the algorithm, a concept called solution potential is presented to assess whether the direction of convergence of the solution to the ideal solution has potential. The solution potential is obtained with an evaluation function to calculate the potentials of the corresponding solutions. A solution potential-based adaptation strategy is then designed for adapting the reference vector to better guide the direction of convergence of the solution when solving MaOPs with irregular PFs. A modified angle penalty distance (mAPD) is adjusted to improve the convergence rate of the solution set in many-objective optimization problems. The proposed algorithm SPARVEA is compared with state-of-the-art many-objective evolutionary algorithms on four test sets with irregular PFs and four practical problems. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of SPARVEA on many-objective optimization problems. The existing algorithms for solving multi-objective optimization problems fall into three main categories: Decomposition-based, dominance-based, and indicator-based. Traditional multi-objective optimization problems mainly focus on objectives, treating decision variables as a total variable to solve the problem without considering the critical role of decision variables in objective optimization. As seen, a variety of decision variable grouping algorithms have been proposed. However, these algorithms are relatively broad for the changes of most decision variables in the evolution process and are time-consuming in the process of finding the Pareto frontier. To solve these problems, a multi-objective optimization algorithm for grouping decision variables based on extreme point Pareto frontier (MOEA-DV/EPF) is proposed. This algorithm adopts a preprocessing rule to solve the Pareto optimal solution set of extreme points generated by simultaneous evolution in various target directions, obtains the basic Pareto front surface to determine the convergence effect, and analyzes the convergence and distribution effects of decision variables. In the later stages of algorithm optimization, different mutation strategies are adopted according to the nature of the decision variables to speed up the rate of evolution to obtain excellent individuals, thus enhancing the performance of the algorithm. It is still a huge challenge for traditional Pareto-dominatedmany-objective optimization algorithms to solve manyobjective optimization problems because these algorithms hardly maintain the balance between convergence and diversity and can only find a group of solutions focused on a small area on the Pareto front, resulting in poor performance of those algorithms. For this reason, we propose a reference vector-assisted algorithmwith an adaptive niche dominance relation, for short MaOEA-AR. The new dominance relation forms a niche based on the angle between candidate solutions. By comparing these solutions, the solutionwith the best convergence is found to be the non-dominated solution to improve the selection pressure. In reproduction, a mutation strategy of k-bit crossover and hybrid mutation is used to generate high-quality offspring. On 23 test problems with up to 15-objective, we compared the proposed algorithm with five state-of-the-art algorithms. The experimental results verified that the proposed algorithm is competitive. The last few years have seen an increasing demand for high-capacity Internet services, and this need has intensified in the years 2020 and 2021. In 2020 and 2021, Internet usage grew by 50% in several European countries, mainly due to home office, video streaming, hybrid teaching, and others. High-capacity optical networks usually meet this growing demand for Internet services. Thus, investigations that can improve the quality of optical networks are highly relevant in the current context. One of the research problems in this area is related to the physical topology design (PTD) of optical networks, which is classified as NP-hard. Several studies on PTD consider the application of meta-heuristics that obtain suboptimal solutions in a time compatible with engineering applications. However, meta-heuristics and local search techniques have been combined in several other optimization problems, which is not typical for the PTD problem. This paper proposes a solution to the PTD problem that combines a known multipurpose optimization algorithm, the NSGA-III, with operators considering the domain-specific knowledge of the problem to provide superior-quality networks. Over the past decade, surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms have demonstrated their effectiveness across various computationally expensive real-world domains. Nevertheless, the focus of surrogate-assisted multi-objective evolutionary algorithms has primarily centered on non-constrained optimization problems. There has been relatively limited exploration into addressing expensive constrained multi-objective optimization problems, which inherently require a delicate equilibrium between convergence, diversity, and feasibility. To bridge this gap, this paper concentrates on constrained multi-objective optimization problems where both objectives and constraints involve substantial computational costs. In response, a novel data-driven constrained multi-objective evolutionary algorithm is introduced, leveraging feasible region localization and performance-improvement exploration. For feasible region localization, a constraints-domain-search strategy is presented to locate the feasible region quickly. To enhance performance-improvement exploration, a progressive enhancement of convergence and diversity is achieved through the incorporation of constraint penalties. With the help of exploration and exploitation, the proposed algorithm can balance convergence, diversity, and feasibility while working within a limited number of function evaluations. Defining inter-well connectivity is very important for the water injection development of carbonate fractured-vuggy reservoirs. However, most conventional methods based on logging or seismic data are subjective. In this research, multi-attribute seismic data were used to characterize the 3D search space, and an improved reward function was designed based on the law of fluid flow and appropriate heuristics. A deep reinforcement learning model based on an improved reward function was designed to search for inter-well connected channels. Selecting the shortest channel length and the largest flow volume were the optimization objectives. We propose the multi-objective evolutionary optimization algorithm with decomposition and differential evolution (MOEA/D-DE) based on an improved mutation operator to automatically obtain the optimal inter-well connected channels. The searched channels can readily show the spatial distribution of multi-scale fractures and caves. The experimental results of the Tahe oilfield show that the improved algorithm effectively enhanced the local convergence performance of the multi-objective algorithm and that the automatic search paths were consistent with the characteristics of seismic static data and tracer test results. Here we introduce a new evolutionary algorithm called the Lotus Effect Algorithm, which combines efficient operators from the dragonfly algorithm, such as the movement of dragonflies in flower pollination for exploration, with the self-cleaning feature of water on flower leaves known as the lotus effect, for extraction and local search operations. The authors compared this method to other improved versions of the dragonfly algorithm using standard benchmark functions, and it outperformed all other methods according to Fredman's test on 29 benchmark functions. The article also highlights the practical application of LEA in reducing energy consumption in IoT nodes through clustering, resulting in increased packet delivery ratio and network lifetime. Additionally, the performance of the proposed method was tested on real-world problems with multiple constraints, such as the welded beam design optimization problem and the speed-reducer problem applied in a gearbox, and the results showed that LEA performs better than other methods in terms of accuracy. The Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA) is a novel hunting-based optimizer. The MPA's central concept is based on the well-known Lévy Flight (LF) and Brownian Motion (BM) strategies as well as a simple transition model between these two strategies. The canonical MPA proposes three static steps to tune the transition behavior between the LF and BM strategies. Although MPA provides exemplary performance in many test functions, the discrete transition between the two mentioned phases causes it to get stuck in local optima when faced with real-world optimization problems. In order to address this shortcoming, this paper proposes a soft dynamic transition between LF and BM to model this encounter naturally, considering the continuous nature of the transition between LF and BM in marine predators' real life. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed Dynamic Foraging Strategy MPA (DFSMPA), twenty-nine optimization test functions, thirty complex CEC-BC-2017 functions, ten benchmarks of CEC06-2019 test suit, and ten real applicable engineering problems, including power system design, synthesis and process design, industrial chemical producer, power-electronic design, mechanical design, and animal feed ratio, are employed. The DFSMPA is evaluated against four groups of standard optimization approaches, including (1) Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm (AOA), Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA), Equilibrium Optimizer (EO), Niching Chimp Optimization Algorithm (ChOA), Henry Gas Solubility Optimization (HGSO) as recent optimization algorithms, (2) Lévy Flight GWO (LGWO) and Evolutionary Algorithms with Adaptive Lévy Mutations (EALM) as the two best dynamic Lévy-based optimization algorithms, (3) SHADE, CMA-ES, and LSHADESPACMA as the three state-of-the-art optimization algorithms, and jDE100, DISHchain1e+12, CIPDE, and EBOwithCMAR as best performing algorithms in IEEE CEC06-2019 competition. Three non-parametric statistical tests, including the Wilcoxon rank-sum, Bonferroni–Dunn and Holm, and Friedman average rank tests, are utilized to perform a comprehensive assessment. The results show that the DFSMPA achieved the first rank among 46 out of 70 benchmark functions and engineering problems and exhibited similar results compared with SHADE and CMA-ES in other benchmarks. The statistical analysis demonstrated that DFSMPA is a significantly superior optimizer than the three first categories' benchmark algorithms, while its result is statistically similar to jDE100, DISHchain1e+12. Feature selection algorithms based on evolutionary computation have continued to emerge, and most of them have achieved outstanding results. However, there are two drawbacks when facing high-dimensional datasets: firstly, it is difficult to reduce features effectively, and secondly, the "curse of dimensionality". To alleviate those problems, we take the initial population generation as an entry point and propose a variant initial population generator, which can improve diversity and initialize populations randomly throughout the solution space. However, during the experimental process, it was found that the improved diversity would cause the algorithm to converge too fast and thus lead to premature. Therefore, we introduced multi-population techniques to balance diversity and convergence speed, and finally formed the MPF-FS framework. To prove the effectiveness of this framework, two feature selection algorithms, multi-population multi-objective artificial bee colony algorithm and multi-population non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II, are implemented based on this framework. Nine well-known public datasets were used in this study, and the results reveal that the two proposed multi-population methods on high-dimensional datasets can reduce more features without reducing (or even improving) classification accuracy, which outperforms the corresponding single-population algorithms. In modern power systems, there is a greater penetration of renewable sources, resulting in the expansion of microgrid. By implementing RES instead of conventional synchronous machines, the system's overall inertia is significantly reduced. Modern and future power systems must reduce system inertia and keep the frequency at its nominal value since frequency oscillation impacts on the functionality, stability, and resilience of the system. Therefore, creating a stable, scalable, and reliable virtual inertia control system is crucial to effectively minimize the deviations during significant contingencies. Consequently, taking into account the probable issues, the foremost objective of this research work is to improve the dynamic security of an island microgrid through the implementation of a frequency control concept based on virtual inertia control. In the research study, the proposed microgrid system comprises of photovoltaics, wind-generating units, thermal power units, storage units, electric vehicles (EVs), and loads. A cascaded PIDFN controller is optimally designed using a novel metaheuristic modified differential evolution (MDE) algorithm that regulates the frequency based on virtual inertia control. In the MATLAB®/SIMULINK environment, various operating situations such as load variations, RES, and EVs disconnection are investigated, and the performance of the VIC-based MDE controller was compared to that of other controllers based on evolutionary optimization algorithms such as DE and TLBO. Wind resource is one of the most promising renewable energy, which has become a suitable replacement for fossil fuels. Optimizing the transferring wind energy from a wind turbine is essential to obtain the maximum power output as other variables are uncontrollable. This paper presents four different optimization algorithms, namely ant lion optimization (ALO), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and crow search optimization (CSO), considering a hybrid decision-making model to compare the performances of wind energy optimization. In the first phase, the evolutionary algorithms are defined based on several factors to meet the need for wind energy based on volumetric and time reliability, reversibility, and vulnerability as well as evaluate optimized energy to the subscriber from the Gansu region. In the second phase, the ordinal priority approach (OPA) is coupled with VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method to rank the evolutionary algorithms. Then, the results are compared with the absolute optimal response based on the nonlinear programming method obtained from GAMS software. The results demonstrate that an ALO outperforms other algorithms. The average accuracy of ALO is 92%. CSO is the least accurate with 55% of the absolute optimal response. ALO is found to be faster, more efficient, and achieved economy and reliability as compared to other optimization algorithms for solving the problem under consideration. Differential evolution (DE) is one of the best evolutionary algorithms (EAs). In recent decades, many techniques have been developed to enhance the performance of this algorithm, such as the Improve Self-Adaptive Differential Evolution (ISADE) algorithm. Based on the analysis of the aspects that may improve the performance of ISADE, we proposed a modified ISADE version with applying the Gauss distribution for mutation procedure. In ISADE, to determine the scaling factor (F), the population is ranked, then, based on the rank number, population size, and current generation, the formula of the Sigmoid function is used. In the proposed algorithm, F is amplified by a factor which is generated based on Gaussian distribution. It has the potential to enhance the variety of population. In comparison with several reference algorithms regarding converging speed and the consistency of optimal solutions, the simulation results reveal the performance of the suggested algorithm is exceptional. This work presents an automated design methodology for time-mode proportional and integral (PI) controllers aimed for an on-chip switched-capacitor (SC) dc/dc converter system. The basis of this design is the use of evolutionary optimization algorithms to find the near-optimal set of sizings for the time-mode PI controller. It is motivated due to the difficulty faced when tuning the controller parameters at a circuit level, which arise as a result of the presence of modeling inaccuracies and the small region for the linearized model where it is defined. Moreover, this design proposes the required modifications for the original design presented for the inductor-based dc/dc converter. These modifications are necessary to operate the SC dc/dc converter in slow switching limit (SSL). The addition of a pulse-width-modulated (PWM)-to-pulse frequency-modulated (PFM) conversion block is presented and elaborated in this article. The controller is codesigned using the differential evolution algorithm for the circuit level implementation to mitigate the issues prior mentioned. The optimized controller is then tested in a simulation environment using TSMC $0.18~\mu \text{m}$ technology. Meta-heuristic algorithms are well-known optimization methods, for solving real-world optimization problems. Harmony search (HS) is a recognized meta-heuristic algorithm with an efficient exploration process. But the HS has a slow convergence rate, which causes the algorithm to have a weak exploitation process in finding the global optima. Different variants of HS introduced in the literature to enhance the algorithm and fix its problems, but in most cases, the algorithm still has a slow convergence rate. Meanwhile, opposition-based learning (OBL), is an effective technique used to improve the performance of different optimization algorithms, including HS. In this work, we adopted a new improved version of OBL, to improve three variants of Harmony Search, by increasing the convergence rate speed of these variants and improving overall performance. The new OBL version named improved opposition-based learning (IOBL), and it is different from the original OBL by adopting randomness to increase the solution's diversity. To evaluate the hybrid algorithms, we run it on benchmark functions to compare the obtained results with its original versions. The obtained results show that the new hybrid algorithms more efficient compared to the original versions of HS. The Coyote Optimization Algorithm (COA) is a bio-inspired optimization algorithm based on the intelligent behavior of coyotes. COA was proposed recently and it considers the social organization of the coyotes and its adaptation to the environment in order to solve continuous optimization problems. In addition, it is a population-based algorithm and it can be classified as both, swarm intelligence and evolutionary heuristics, because contributes with a different algorithmic structure. This paper proposes a binary version of the COA, named Binary COA (BCOA) applying to select the optimal feature subset for classification, based on the hyperbolic transfer function in a wrapper model. By this way, the features are selected based on the performance evaluation of a classification algorithm. We tested the effectiveness of the BCOA wrapper with the Naïve Bayes classifier and were used seven public domain benchmark datasets to compare the proposed approach in terms of classification accuracy, number of selected features and computational cost with other state-of-art algorithms of the literature.
