Strange attractors can be observed in chaotic and hyperchaotic systems. Most of the dynamical systems hold a finite number of attractors, while some chaotic systems can be controlled to present an infinite number of attractors by generating infinite equilibria. Chaos can also be triggered in some dynamical systems that can present hidden attractors, and the attractors in these dynamical systems find no equilibria and the basin of attraction is not connected with any equilibrium (the equilibria position meets certain restriction function). In this paper, Hamilton energy is calculated on the chaotic systems with different types of attractors, and energy modulation is used to control the chaos in these systems. The potential mechanism could be that negative feedback in energy can suppress the phase space and oscillating behaviors, and thus, the chaotic, periodical oscillators can be controlled. A new 4D fractional-order chaotic system, which has an infinite number of equilibrium points, is introduced. There is no-chaotic behavior for its corresponded integer-order system. We obtain that the largest Lyapunov exponent of this 4D fractional-order chaotic system is 0.8939 and yield the chaotic attractor. A new function projective synchronization scheme between different fractional-order chaotic systems, called scaling-base drive function projective synchronization (SBDFPS), is discussed. In this SBDFPS scheme, one fractional-order chaotic system is chosen as scaling drive system, one fractional-order chaotic system is chosen as base drive systems, and another fractional-order chaotic system is chosen as response system. The SBDFPS technique scheme is based on the stability theory of nonlinear fractionalorder systems, and the synchronization technique is theoretically rigorous. A hybrid projective synchronization scheme for two identical fractional-order chaotic systems is proposed in this paper. Based on the stability theory of fractional-order systems, a controller for the synchronization of two identical fractional-order chaotic systems is designed. This synchronization scheme needs not to absorb all the nonlinear terms of response system. Hybrid projective synchronization for the fractional-order Chen chaotic system and hybrid projective synchronization for the fractional-order hyperchaotic Lu system are used to demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the proposed scheme. An adaptive hybrid function projective synchronization (AHFPS) scheme between different fractional-order chaotic systems with uncertain system parameter is addressed in this paper. In this proposed scheme, the drive and response system could be synchronized up to a vector function factor. This proposed scheme is different with the function projective synchronization FPS scheme, in which the drive and response system could be synchronized up to a scaling function factor. An adaptive tracking control scheme is presented for fractional-order chaotic systems with uncertain parameter. It is theoretically proved that this approach can make the uncertain parameter fractional-order chaotic system track any given reference signal and the uncertain system parameter is estimated through the adaptive tracking control process. Furthermore, the reference signal may belong to other integer-orders chaotic system or belong to different fractional-order chaotic system with different fractional orders. The well-known Matsumoto–Chua–Kobayashi (MCK) circuit is of significance for studying hyperchaos, since it was the first experimental observation of hyperchaos from a real physical system. In this paper, we discuss the existence of hyperchaos in this circuit by virtue of topological horseshoe theory. The two disjoint compact subsets producing a horseshoe found in a specific 3D cross-section, both expand in two directions under the fourth Poincaré return map, this fact means that there exists hyperchaos in the circuit. This paper studies chaotic dynamics in a fractional-order unified system by means of topological horseshoe theory and numerical computation. First it finds four quadrilaterals in a carefully-chosen Poincare section, then shows that the corresponding map is semiconjugate to a shift map with four symbols. By estimating the topological entropy of the map and the original time-continuous system, it provides a computer assisted verification on existence of chaos in this system, which is much more convincible than the common method of Lyapunov exponents. This new method can potentially be used in rigorous studies of chaos in such a kind of system. This paper may be a start for proving a given fractional-order differential equation to be chaotic. Based on the idea of tracking control and stability theory of fractional-order systems, a controller is designed to synchronize the fractional-order chaotic system with chaotic systems of integer orders, and synchronize the different fractional-order chaotic systems. The proposed synchronization approach in this paper shows that the synchronization between fractional-order chaotic systems and chaotic systems of integer orders can be achieved, and the synchronization between different fractional-order chaotic systems can also be realized. A specific state variable in a class of 3D continuous fractional-order chaotic systems is presented. All state variables of fractional-order chaotic systems of this class can be obtained via a specific state variable and its (q-order and 2q-order) time derivatives. This idea is demonstrated by using several well-known fractional-order chaotic systems. Finally, a synchronization scheme is investigated for this fractional-order chaotic system via a specific state variable and its (q-order and 2q-order) time derivatives.
