Background: Fertility intentions, as a direct driver of fertility behavior, play an important role in the implementation of national fertility policy and population development. This study explored the influencing factors of college teachers' second child fertility intentions in Jinan, China on the basis of TPB. Methodology/Principal findings: Based on the theory of planned behavior, this paper employs basic characteristics analysis, difference analysis, and factor analysis related to the fertility intentions of the participants. Analysis found participants between 31 and 40 years old had the highest second child fertility intentions, and participants with a college-age first child had the lowest second child fertility intentions. Attitude and subjective norms had a positive impact on second child fertility intentions, and policy awareness had a positive impact on attitude, which indirectly affected second child fertility intentions. Subjective norms had the greatest influence on second child fertility intentions, followed by attitude, and policy awareness had the least influence on second child fertility intentions. Significance/Future research: The findings of this paper can enrich the theoretical research on fertility intentions, and also provide more optimal practical references for the formulation and propagation of China's fertility policy as well as the improvement of the division of family roles in China. With the increasing investment in education in China, higher education institutions have higher requirements for the introduction of teachers. This research mainly discusses the development and training strategies of college teachers based on data mining technology. Data mining technology is dedicated to data analysis and understanding, and the technology of revealing the information contained in the data. It is a frontier research topic in the field of information and database technology. Therefore, the system of monitoring and evaluation of college teaching quality based on data mining is designed for the management of educational affairs in colleges provided convenience. This paper selects an unsupervised classification method: a cluster analysis. This method can not only obtain reasonable classification results but also give consideration to the comprehensiveness of employee development and give reasonable development suggestions for each employee through classification results. For a series of introduced teacher's information, personnel management module should provide the following functions: teacher information management, contract information management, resignation information management, and query teacher personnel information. The recruitment management module often collects the candidate information, registers and stores it, and then conducts a series of personnel screening for these candidates according to the recruitment criteria, and finally determines the possible candidates. Afterwards, a series of comprehensive evaluations are carried out on these selected candidates, and finally the candidates are selected for admission based on the comprehensive performance of the candidates. The K-means clustering algorithm in the cluster analysis method is adopted. This algorithm has the excellent characteristics of high computational efficiency and is suitable for the operation of large amount of data. Through the clustering algorithm, a reasonable assessment method is established, and it is effectively used in the human resources assessment management system. Among the introduced teachers, the number of teachers whose professional title is high, the highest degree is doctorate, and the number of teachers whose papers are published at SCI level accounts for 16%. The data tested by the data mining tool contains 1,400 rows of data. The minimum support is 5%, and the minimum confidence is 90%. Work and family are two important areas in people’s life, and the relationship between them will have an important impact on the attitudes and behaviors of employees in an organization. In the context of Chinese culture, the organization hopes to have an ideal employee, and the family hopes to have a good wife and mother. Based on the resource conservation theory, this paper examines the relationship between bi-directional work–family conflict and job burnout, perceived organizational support and job satisfaction by using latent variable path analysis method with 527 Chinese female university teachers as subjects. The results showed that: (1) Work–family conflict, family–work conflict and job burnout could negatively predict job satisfaction, while perceived organizational support could positively predict job satisfaction, (2) Job burnout played a partial mediating role in the process of work–family conflict and family–work conflict affecting job satisfaction, and the effect values were − 0.220 and − 0.168, and (3) Perceived organizational support played a moderating role in the first half of the mediating effect of “work–family conflict → job burnout → job satisfaction” and “family–work conflict → job burnout → job satisfaction,” and the moderating mediating index was 0.015 and 0.010. The study contributes to a better understanding of the relationships among bi-directional work–family conflict, job burnout, perceived organizational support, and job satisfaction among female university teachers. Our findings highlight potential avenues for interventions by university administrators in the context of Chinese culture aimed at balancing work and family and improving job satisfaction among female university teachers. Based on the job demands-resources model, this study explored the relationships among emotional labor strategies, job demands of teaching, job resources, and teaching efficacy for university teachers. The results, based on a sample of 316 university teachers from China, showed that the teachers preferred to convey authenticity by expressing deep acting and naturally felt emotion. Furthermore, deep acting and naturally felt emotions were found to have a significant positive effect on teaching efficacy, whereas surface acting did not have any significant relationship with teaching efficacy. As organizational variables, job demands significantly positively affected surface acting, deep acting, and naturally felt emotion. In contrast, job resources positively affected surface and deep acting, but no significant relationship with naturally felt emotions was found. These results highlight that university teachers from China could benefit from adopting authentic emotional labor strategies, specifically deep acting and naturally felt emotions, as the most effective strategies in teaching. Based on the above findings, this paper concludes with recommendations for university administrators to alleviate the emotional labor of college faculty. For example, universities should pay more attention to teachers' emotional state, provide resources to support them, and give more space and support to college teachers in teaching. The innovative teaching behaviors of college teacher are of positive significance for promoting the construction of educational informatization in China and realizing the high-quality development of higher education. Based on the theory of social cognition and theory of behavioral change, the paper explores the influential mechanism and its boundary conditions of college teachers' information literacy on their innovative teaching behaviors during the new era of educational informatization. Through the investigation of 280 college teachers, it is found that: (1) information literacy and its dimensions of information knowledge and information capability have a significant positive effect on innovative teaching behavior; (2) Creative self-efficacy plays a mediating role between information literacy (information knowledge and information capability) and innovative teaching behavior; (3) College innovation climate significantly moderates the positive relationship between information literacy (information awareness and information knowledge) and creative self-efficacy; (4) College innovation climate significantly moderates the mediating effect of creative self-efficacy between information literacy (information awareness and information knowledge) and innovative teaching behavior. Therefore, colleges and universities should focus on enhancing teachers' information literacy level and their creative self-efficacy, creating an excellent atmosphere for innovation, and encouraging college teachers to actively carry out their innovative teaching practice in the new stage of educational informatization. Recently, China's Ministry of Education has established a new department to regulate extracurricular tutoring for the purpose of reducing students' excessive academic burden. In this paper, we provide empirical evidence that academic competitiveness among students is a key driver of the extracurricular tutoring fever. Using the China Education Panel Survey (CEPS) data, we show that when their competitors attend extracurricular tutoring, students keep up with the actions of competitors, generating the peer effect of extracurricular tutoring. This effect is more pronounced for students with stronger competitive preferences. However, this irrational imitation behavior does not improve students' academic performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION: With the advent of the digital age, big data has become essential to all walks of life. In digital education, it has become an indispensable part, which can cover the students' learning progress, learning hours, practice scores, course information, classroom interaction information and so on, which makes the teaching process fully covered and a one-stop learning experience. Big data is essential to promote China's education to the scientific, systematic, informatization and customization continue to move forward. OBJECTIVES: To further improve the writing ability of college students in China, the systematic learning of big data is integrated into the daily teaching and life of the university so that college students can better embrace this significant data era. METHODS: This paper discusses the analysis of the current situation of college students' accompanying writing, the problems and improvement methods of college students' accompanying creative writing, the systematic elaboration of big data, and the method of predictive analysis of big data to explore the practice of teaching college students' accompanying creative writing in a high-quality context based on the ability of predictive analysis of big data. RESULTS: With the advent of the digital age, big data has become an essential part of various fields. As an even more indispensable part of the digital education field, it can cover students' learning progress, learning time, practice results, course information, classroom interaction information, Etc., indeed covering the entire education program for a one-stop learning experience. Purpose: Professor independent directors have been the subject of academic debate as to whether they can improve corporate innovation performance. Accordingly, this paper aims to investigate the relationship between professor independent directors, the marketization process and corporate innovation performance in China. Design/methodology/approach: Using a sample of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2014 to 2017, this study examines how professor independent directors and the (low and high) marketization process affect corporate innovation performance. Findings: The empirical analysis of this yields the following main results. First, enterprises with a higher proportion of professor independent directors outperform those with a low proportion of professor independent directors in terms of corporate innovation. Second, the study of introducing the marketization process finds that there is no "market failure". Third, while professor independent directors have a significant association with innovation performance in the high-marketization group, this association is negligible in the low-marketization group, indicating that there is no "substitution effect". Originality/value: This research provides empirical evidence to support the hiring of professors with relevant backgrounds as independent directors who can contribute meaningfully to corporate governance and innovation while also fostering industrial transformation. This study also identifies that the role of professor independent directors in facilitating corporate innovation is more effective in regions with a high degree of marketization than in regions with a low degree of marketization, implying that increasing marketization benefits the role of professor independent directors in facilitating corporate innovation. Research on the competence of college teachers in China has been going on for a long time, but the conclusions obtained in the dominant characteristic layer of competence are different. Based on the competency model theory, this paper used the meta-analysis method to conduct an integrated study on the dominant characteristic layer of the Chinese college teachers' competency model. A total of 29 literature sources were included, and the total number of samples was 18,246. The results indicated that the overall performance of male teacher's was better than that of female teachers in the dominant characteristic layer of the college teachers' competency model, and the average effect was significant. This study considers the important areas of language teacher employment motivation, job satisfaction and dissatisfaction in state universities in China. This is an area in which there is a distinct lack of research studies. Through an exploratory case study analysis, and depth enlightening interviews, this paper considers the experiences of two outwardly successful doctorate status educators, examining their early career motives and subsequent employment satisfaction and dissatisfaction. It finds that these English instructors were driven by a diverse range of extrinsic motives to work in the Chinese public university sector. They were largely satisfied with their jobs, but they also reported dissatisfaction in certain areas. For example, they appreciated the teaching loads and respect afforded to university teachers, but harboured worries about their longer-term professional development. The study also reveals the different treatment and concerns experienced by home and expatriate university English teachers working in China. There are implications for a wide range of important pedagogic and professional areas. These range from teacher wellbeing and mental health to development and training, career management and leadership practice. China released two new policies in 2021, the 'double reduction' and a Gaokao (National College Entrance Examination) regulation, which have significantly impacted English learning and Languages other than English (LOTEs) learning respectively. This has intensified the existing dispute over 'English fever' and made people question whether the 'winter' of English education in China has come. In this article, findings from a multiple-case study exploring teachers' and students' opinions on the value of English learning in Chinese higher education are discussed under the circumstances of such new policies. This study employs the Bourdieusian approach and involves English major, non-English major learners as well as their teachers in Yunnan and Shanghai, two socio-economically different areas, to see diversity. The participants reported a cooling down of the 'English fever' in the universities and the wider society, yet an increasing demand for a higher level of English proficiency in particular industries or disciplines. The findings also demonstrate the tension between the standardised national curriculum and regionally different language needs along with the influence of an incoherent national curricula for different educational stages regarding foreign language education. This paper concludes with suggestions to modify the curriculum and teaching practices for multilingual and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) education in China as well as other English as a Foreign Language contexts. Systemic functional translation studies (SFTS) has been a research area sustained by scholars from both Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and translation studies over the past decades. In China, there have been an increasing number of studies in SFTS after the 2000s, with Professor Guowen Huang being one of the pioneering and influential scholars contributing to this emerging research area. This paper is a transcript of an interview conducted with Guowen Huang and it serves to provide a general introduction to his research. In the interview, he discusses his motivation for exploring SFTS, the advantages of applying SFL to translation studies, and the Ph.D. students he has supervised over the past decades. He also introduces his own work on the translations of ancient Chinese poems, the translations of the Analects (Lunyu 论语) of Confucius, and his investigation of applying ecolinguistics to translation studies. It is not only related to the overall development of the individual body and mind but also affects the construction of university teachers. This paper mainly studies the career development anxiety of music teachers in colleges and universities in China, analyzes its causes, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions to alleviate the pressure and promote the physical and mental harmony of music teachers and the common growth of a good social atmosphere. The purpose is to help music teachers in colleges and universities better manage their mental health. This paper collects the data of occupational stress and mental health of 164 music teachers in many colleges and universities through the method of a questionnaire survey and processes the data with the analysis formula of sample variance and standard deviation. Permafrost is strongly associated with human well‐being and has become a frontier of cryospheric science. Professor Guodong Cheng is one of the most outstanding geocryologists in China. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1993 and served as the president of the International Permafrost Association from 1993–1998. In the early 1980s, Professor Cheng proposed the hypothesis of the repeated‐segregation mechanism for the formation of thick‐layered ground ice near the permafrost table. Subsequently, in the early 2000s, he proposed the "proactive roadbed cooling" concept and led the successful development of a series of specific engineering measures that were fully applied in the Qinghai–Tibet Railway Project. Furthermore, he developed a conceptual model to describe the influences of changing permafrost on the groundwater system and discovered the "sink‐holing effect" (channeling with improved hydraulic conductivity of warming permafrost). Professor Cheng has also developed theories on the three‐dimensional zonation and proposed a classification system and an altitude model for high‐altitude permafrost distribution. On this special occasion of Professor Cheng's 80th birthday, this paper summarizes his outstanding achievements on permafrost science, hoping the permafrost research community will carry forward the momentum to further advance permafrost science worldwide. This paper presents an empirical analysis of the supply-and-demand dynamics in the library and information science (LIS) academic market in China. This analysis is based on a broad concept of academic market and large-scale labor-market data. The authors find a shift in faculty positions, in which traditional positions in universities and research institutions have been replaced with relatively new, temporary academic positions, such as contract-based positions, research librarians, and army lecturers. In addition, they speculate that institutional prestige contributes to a structural mismatch in the Chinese LIS market. Confronted with a changing academic job market, LIS institutions and associations need to strengthen the training of doctoral students' transferable skills to improve their entry into the academic market. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first attempt to investigate the supply and demand of the LIS academic market in China, which can provide a reference for the global LIS academic community. As one of the pioneer palaeontologists, Professor Zhuoting Liao has contributed his lifetime to promoting palaeontological and stratigraphical research in China for 60 years, and he passed away in the field excursion in South China on June 20, 2020. In his palaeontological career, Liao has worked on Late Palaeozoic to Mesozoic palaeontology and stratigraphy of almost all regions across China, and his interests have also extended to the Permian–Triassic (P‐Tr) boundary and mass extinction. He has worked on palaeontology, palaeobiogeography, biostratigraphy, tectonostratigraphy, and their implications in mineral and oil‐gas industries. Liao has established 22 new genera and 172 new species of brachiopods, and, together with his colleagues, proposed 11 new genera and 25 new species of echinoderms. He dedicated his lifetime to work on Late Palaeozoic palaeontology and stratigraphy of the previously remote and tectonically complex Xinjiang and adjacent regions, north‐west China, and established integrated stratigraphical frameworks for the Carboniferous to Permian strata, providing fundamental basis for mineral and hydrocarbon exploration in the poorly understood Central Asian terranes. In addition, he has mentored many young palaeontologists and stratigraphers in various ways. This volume assembles 30 papers addressing the Late Palaeozoic to Mesozoic palaeontology and stratigraphy of China and adjacent regions, which pays tribute to the achievement of Professor Zhuoting Liao. It is no doubt that successful organizations tend to be those that persistently innovate, believing on new technologies and emphasizing on abilities and knowledge of their employees. Knowledge has become one of the most imperative intangible assets of financial institutions in recent years. The aspiring organizations have recognized that Intellectual Capital Efficiency is important in promoting the performance of financial institutions. This paper tests the relationship between intellectual capital and performance using a sample of 76 financial institutions from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan over the period 2006–2016. The results show that intellectual capital efficiency has a significant and positive impact on the profitability of financial institutions, while human capital and structural capital are not significantly related to the performance of financial institutions in Taiwan and Hong Kong. The present research extends the knowledge of intellectual capital between managers, academicians, and highlights its contribution to the value creation. These results determine that the financial institutions need to emphasize on the elements of intellectual capital, to enhance the best financial performances in these countries. Purpose – After the official definition of Open Educational Resources (OER) at the Forum on Open Courseware for Higher Education in Developing Countries in 2002, the concept was soon introduced to China and popularised among scholars, practitioners, and educators. After ten years of proliferation, it is important to explore the landscape of Chinese OER research. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – This paper adopts social network analysis (SNA) to analyse the network defining the citations of 133 OER journal articles published in China. Findings – The findings illustrate that the academic circle of OER in China is small, which leads to restricted innovation. Most publications are produced by researchers working at comprehensive universities and normal universities (teachers colleges). Research limitations/implications – In these universities, a number of active OER researchers are emerging, but no OER research team can be identified from their citation networks. Currently, most OER research is still descriptive research, and only few case studies are being to gradually be conducted. Practical implications – As the Chinese OER research is still in the initial stage, more research projects in OER need to be explored to construct higher quality and more influential open content to achieve deep openness. This paper is in honour of Professor Marcel Tanner, President of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences, and former Director of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), in Basel, Switzerland. In the 30 plus years since his first visit to China in 1989, Professor Tanner has tirelessly promoted research collaboration between Switzerland and China on health and tropical diseases through international meetings, scholar exchange, and training of young scientists. As a contribution to Professor Tanner's life's work of collaboration with Chinese scientists, we summarize here ideas conceived, work initiated and major outcomes. His approach, embodied in his flowery expression: "Alps and Himalayas never meet, but Swiss and Chinese can", marked the occasion in 2013 when Xinhua Co., Ltd., a pharmaceutical company in Shandong of China, agreed to produce tribendimidine, a new remedy for tropical helminth infections, that was the fruit of long-term research by scientists at the Swiss TPH in Basel, and National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (NIPD) in Shanghai. This was neither the first nor the last of Professor Tanner's forceful, yet diplomatic influence, and we follow in his footprints when continuing in Swiss-Chinese cooperation in tropical medicine. Purpose: This paper aims to analyse the role of government-led innovative knowledge management platforms in innovation knowledge management, social network effects and innovative resource clusters in the context of academician workstations in China. Specifically, this paper empirically studies the impact of academician workstations on corporate innovation capabilities and the mechanisms behind this impact. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses the propensity matching score method and difference-in-differences method to test the relationship between academician workstations and corporate innovation capabilities. Baron and Kenny's (1986) mediation method is used to test two potential mechanisms. Findings: Academician workstations significantly improve corporate innovation capabilities because of their contribution to knowledge and innovation management. The facilitation effects are stronger in non-state-owned firms, high-tech firms and firms in industries with low levels of competition. Further, academician workstations enhance corporate innovation capabilities through their funding effect. Practical implications: This paper encourages policymakers to create a better market environment and stable support policies to facilitate sustainable scientific and technological innovation. Originality/value: To the best of authors' knowledge, this study is among the first to empirically analyse the impacts of innovative knowledge management platforms on corporate innovation. It enriches the theoretical perspective of innovation platforms and provides an excellent research perspective for effectively analysing the impacts of innovation platforms. This paper is based on a survey and interviews of Pakistani University students and teachers regarding the prospective inclusion of Chinese literature courses in English Studies in particular and University programmes in general. Before a discussion of the results of the survey and the interviews, the paper offers a discussion on some of the curricular, pedagogical, and political ramifications of this possible inclusion. The study reveals that an overwhelming number of students do not know anything about Chinese literature, but have a strong interest in reading it, consider that such a step would diversify the curriculum, offer economic dividends, and shatter stereotypes about China. This research also identified that the comparative literary paradigm would be most suitable for such a literary engagement, and the local perspectives must not be ignored as such an occlusion might pave the way for another form of cultural imperialism. Abstract Background As the world's second largest economy, China makes unique contributions to the world in many fields, including sociology, the economy, technology and defense. Medical informatics (MI) is an important cross-disciplinary field that, along with its applications, has received massive funding from the Chinese government. However, the question of how to evaluate China's input and output in MI remains important and complex issue of great significance for China and the rest of the world. Objective This paper analyzed, for the first time, the quality and quantity of research by Chinese academics in MI based on their articles published in international specialty journals in recent years and examined MI research hotspots in China. Our purpose is to summarize the experiences and lessons learned by China and the rest of the world as they develop MI. Method We targeted 18 MI journals listed in the JCR 2016 report and searched for papers published by Chinese academics in these 18 journals in the WOS and PUBMED databases and on journal sites. We also performed data cleansing and categorized the obtained information. We used Excel, SPSS, Ucinet and NetDraw to conduct quantitative analyses on the research papers. Results A total of 1340 articles satisfied the inclusion criteria of this study. We observed a significant upward trend in the number of articles published over time, particularly after 2011. Lei Jianbo, Huang Zhengxing and Li Jin-song are active Chinese authors in the MI discipline who have written many high-quality publications. Meanwhile, universities remain the primary breeding grounds for scientific research: 93.36% of the articles came from universities. Zhejiang University published the most first-author articles, whereas Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Tsinghua University produced 17.76% of the total articles. According to the lists of authors, 24% of the papers were co-authored with foreign researchers. This rate of cooperation is increasing each year, from 5.88% to the current rate of 39.04%. An analysis of keywords showed that “EMR”, “SVM”, “Authentication”, “Telecare medical information system”, “EEG”, “ECG” and “RFID” were the most frequently searched terms in popular technological fields, including artificial intelligence and image processing. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of high-frequency keywords and a broadening range of research fields, which has led to the emergence of several research hotspots, including MI systems, mobile health care, telecare, data mining and machine learning. Conclusions Through the quantitative analysis of publications, we discovered the emergence of three stages – infancy, slow growth and rapid growth – in China's MI research in recent years as academics make achievements in their research works. At present, with the rapid growth of China's comprehensive national power, China wants to accelerate the construction of world-class universities and world-class disciplines to match it. Therefore, the education and management of university teachers is crucial, and the current research results at home and abroad in this area are remarkable. In this paper, we will start from the innovative application of university teachers' management system and use the Oracle and SQL Server database processors commonly used in big data processing to process data. It is concluded that China's teaching force is gradually balanced; the comprehensive quality of the teaching force is improving; the academic atmosphere is more open; the fields and perspectives of academic research are richer; the distribution of teachers at all levels in China is more balanced; the comprehensive quality of our teachers is improving; the system of education and scientific research in China's universities is improving; and the ecological management system of universities is improving. Fierce, ever-increasing competition has prompted universities to pay more attention to their academic brand. Since the 1980s, top Chinese universities have begun to register trademarks and manage academic brands. After more than 20 years of hard work, what have they achieved? This paper, which conducts research based on big data on the trademarks and litigation of the 42 first-class universities, is the first systematic analysis of the trademark practices and strategies of Chinese universities. Our data show the following dimensions of top Chinese universities: the timing of the first trademark application, core trademark, non-core trademarks, trademark elements, distribution of trademarks in the Nice Classification, number of trademarks, legal status, and trademark litigation. Additionally, several typical universities, offering both positive and negative examples, were studied. Through the above analysis, we found that the application has some blind spots, there is a lack of initiative in trademark litigation, and the trademark management systems in universities are not considered relevant. To solve these problems, a range of suggestions from macro to micro is offered to help universities formulate a systematic and reasonable trademark protection strategy, strengthen the legal protection of their trademark rights, and improve their internal trademark management system. This paper discusses the preparation work of higher normal music colleges under the new curriculum standards from four aspects: "experience learning, independent learning, cooperative learning, and inquiry learning." Later, through the method of questionnaire survey, starting from the survey of the independent learning motivation of 325 music education students, the independent learning situation of music education students under the network resources was analyzed, and the learning strategies were discussed from various aspects of students, teachers, and the school. As an essential community of practice which could facilitate teachers' professional development and enrich research in teacher education, the teacher–researcher partnership (TRP) has not been sufficiently investigated in China. As reported in this paper, we conducted an empirical study on TRPs between secondary school mathematics teachers and university researchers by applying activity theory to investigate their collaboration and contradictions, through the process of co-designing lesson studies. We found four levels of contradictions, namely, primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary, within which the fourth one occurs less frequently compared to the other three. To ameliorate or even resolve the contradictions, it requires both sides to (1) achieve agreement on understanding the objects, (2) promote equality in communication and mutual respect, (3) facilitate transformation in identity, and (4) construct a united community. In addition, the investigation provided a depiction of how teachers learn and grow in the TRP as well as how teachers and researchers interact in the partnership, which in turn enriches both teacher education and activity theory. This paper studies the teaching abilities of physical education (P.E.) teachers in colleges and universities. First, an evaluation indicator system for the teaching abilities of P.E. teachers in colleges and universities was constructed using the Delphi method, and then the weights of indicators at each level were determined using the expert survey method, so that a standard scale was formed for the teaching ability evaluation system. After that, empirical analysis was performed on the evaluation indicator system. The research results show that the teaching ability evaluation indicator system for P.E. teachers in colleges and universities proposed in this paper can be used to give a quantitative analysis on teachers' teaching abilities and clearly reflect their deficiencies in teaching. This will allow teachers to understand what to improve in their teaching so that their teaching abilities will be enhanced. The paper draws on findings from a case study which explored factors influencing students' decision-making of postgraduate (PG) education at G University in China. Both questionnaires and follow-up interviews were used for data collection. This paper reports the main reasons for students' choices of subject and institution for PG education, and the influences of families and teachers, and of guanxi in their decision-making. The findings show that both families and teachers play important roles in shaping students' decision-making about PG education. The influence of income on the subjective happiness of teachers in Chinese private universities is researched in this paper. First of all, considering the features of the Chinese private university, the measuring model of the subjective happiness of teachers in higher institutions was established. Then, the private university teachers in China were taken as investigation objects to collect data samples. Finally, based on the questionnaire data, the author will verify the measuring model by using the structural equation model. The empirical research results show that the welfare system of the investor has a positive impact on the teacher income, and the income has a notable positive impact on the subjective happiness of teachers through consumption level and housing conditions. Therefore, it has a significant positive influence on the subjective happiness of the teachers in Chinese private colleges. With the higher income, the subjective happiness of the teachers becomes stronger. Human capital has had a considerable influence on the education policies in China. In this paper, a new policy of the Shanghai Education Bureau is described in which universities were strongly rec-ommended to replace their English in general education programs with an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) one, in order to produce talent for regional and national development. Using a Fou-cauldian perspective to explore the extent the teachers were subjectified by the Shanghai EAP Poli-cy. The teachers had demonstrated their subjectivity, particularly via critiquing, questioning the dis-course and mediating their EAP teaching. This study explores the challenges faced by young lecturers in managerial transformation in elite Chinese academic institutions which aim to develop into world-class universities. Drawing on data from in-depth interviews, the paper discusses how a group of lecturers on tenure-track contracts at a research university in China perceived the impacts of this managerial personnel reform. The study revealed intensified academic pressure and consequent feelings of insecurity, uncertainty and anxiety among the participants. Rigid tenure requirements pushed down research quality, and detracted from the efforts the participants could have devoted to teaching. In recent years, universities in northeastern China have been losing teachers. This paper uses the survey results of university teachers in Northeastern China to analyze the factors that cause the loss of teachers in universities in Northeastern China. Based on the findings of this study, the factors that affect the flow tendency of teachers at worklife include promotion and development, university management, working conditions, salary and interpersonal relationship, of which promotion and development has the greatest impact. The factors that affect the flow tendency of teachers in the external environment include family responsibility, organizational prestige, conditions for talent acquisition and urban living environment, of which organizational prestige has the greatest impact. To alleviate the loss of teachers in universities from northeastern China, universities can improve the promotion and development channels of teachers, perfect their working conditions and management level, raise the basic salary standard of teachers and establish a remuneration system for distribution according to performance. For good measure, they can also stabilize the current teachers while attracting more outstanding talents by exploiting the advantages of location, making more efforts to build high-level disciplines, and offering more favorable conditions for talent introduction. This paper, based on data collected from questionnaires distributed among German students and from interviews with university professors and contacts in cooperating companies in both Germany and China, evaluates dual studies in Germany and their applicability to China. The study finds that most students are satisfied with the theory phase and the practical phase. Practical experience and grants from companies are mentioned as important advantages of dual studies. In addition, expert interviews carried out in Germany show that students acquire both professional knowledge and occupational skills in the course of their dual studies. Interviews with Chinese experts point to the fact that the German model of dual studies could be applicable to China. Therefore, dual studies at Chinese application-oriented universities which interlink theory with practice and offer both a Bachelor's degree and a professional qualification in 3- to 4-year programmes could be an attractive alternative for Chinese students. An instructor's gestures have an effect not only on students' learning but also on teaching itself. In two experiments, this study tested whether instructors' use of gestures while recording video lectures affected their teaching performance, stress, and cognitive load. In Experiment 1, participants recorded video lectures with gestures or without gestures. As hypothesized, t tests showed that participants in the gestures condition had better teaching performance and lower cognitive load than participants in the no‐gestures condition, whereas there was no effect on stress level. In Experiment 2, participants recorded video lectures with either pointing gestures or representational gestures. The t tests indicated that participants in the pointing gestures condition showed better teaching performance and experienced lower stress than those in the representational gestures condition, but there was no difference in cognitive load. Overall, our findings suggest that in the new educational environment of video lectures, instructors should consider using gestures, especially pointing gestures, to improve their teaching and their experience of teaching. University teachers selectively disclosing inventions leads to a serious loss of high-value inventions in colleges, which seriously hinders the transformation process of university patents. To promote achievement transformation, Sichuan Province took the lead in carrying out the pilot reform of the mixed ownership of employee inventions in universities in China and encouraged professional inventors to transform achievements with property rights. However, whether university teachers are willing to disclose high-quality inventions to universities is unknown, and the stimulating effect of reforms on college teachers remains to be examined. From the perspective of the current situation of university teachers' willingness to disclose inventions in the process of the transformation of university patents, this paper selects teachers from seven universities in Sichuan Province, China, as the objects of the questionnaire, including Sichuan University and Southwest Jiaotong University. The study uses a structural equation model and draws the following conclusions: university teachers' characteristics, incentive mechanisms, and invention characteristics are positively related to their willingness to disclose inventions; enterprise activities are negatively related to university teachers' willingness to disclose inventions; and the influence of patent examination on the intention of invention disclosure is weak. While assessment for learning (AfL) has been widely used in college English classrooms in China where teachers usually teach large classes, how AfL is implemented in the large-class higher education (HE) context is relatively underexplored. To address this gap, this study explores some of the challenges presented by large classes and the teachers' coping strategies through case studies of three university English teachers' AfL practices. Challenges are identified surrounding how the teachers dealt with (a) inadequate attention to individual students, (b) reduced opportunities for individualised feedback, (c) overwhelming marking responsibilities, and (d) involving students in assessment, with strategies of putting students in groups, matching names with faces, conducting teacher-student conferences, utilising technology to facilitate feedback processes, enabling peer feedback, and transforming students from assessees to assessors. Findings are framed around useful forms of AfL in large classes and the feasibility of AfL in terms of compromises between teacher agency and their temporal and contextual conditions. College English teachers’ job burnout has become prominent in the field of education. Using China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, this review research on burnout of college English language teachers in China from 2006 to 2021. The review demonstrates key research areas including teacher burnout severity and influencing variables related to teacher burnout. Individual factors, such as age, gender, marital status, educational background, professional title, and years of teaching experience are associated with burnout rates. University type and level, teaching-related role overload, scientific research stress induced by promotion, limited job autonomy, a stern hierarchical organizational system, and opaque operating rules are influencing factors discussed. By extracting information from various original materials and using geography departments, curricula, and faculty as indicators, this paper contributes to the discussion of the development of geography in higher education in China from 1904 to 1949. Four mutual connections are outlined. First, the development of geography in higher education is inextricably linked to social and political changes. Second, geography in higher education during the period concerned progressed in fits and starts, which affected its distribution. Third, geography departments were split into two categories according to the type of higher educational institution, which created differences in the tasks, curricula, and faculty of these departments. Fourth, faculty were trained in both domestic and foreign universities, and Western universities made an obvious contribution to the growth of qualified academic faculty. Simultaneously, universities where qualified academic faculty were trained were centralized both in domestic and foreign aspects. The special role of geographers returning from overseas study, the particularity of geography in higher education in China, and the connection between Chinese and foreign geography are also discussed in terms of geography departments, curricula, and faculty. Socialization as a theoretical concept has been increasingly applied to higher education over the past several decades. However, little research examines international visiting scholars' overseas academic socialization experiences. Rooted in socialization theory, this one-year qualitative study explores 15 Chinese visiting scholars' lived experiences in socialization to the US academic community through observations and interviews. The data reveal that the strategies used for academic socialization include motivation, social networking development, academic recognition, goal orientation, and community involvement. Besides, this paper analyses the reasons for their encountered dilemmas such marginalization, time constraint, and external critique. To improve the teaching quality of higher education, the Chinese government has been striving to strengthen teaching accountability in universities. This qualitative study investigates the effects of the current teaching accountability mechanisms on academics at two universities. This study finds a gap between the goal of accountability and the felt responsibilities of academics due to the institutional contexts and the one-size-fits-all characters of external accountability. Along with this, the felt responsibilities of academics are affected by their self-identities and moral and normative responsibilities. Finally, the role responsibilities of academics are closely related to their felt responsibility and largely contribute to improving the effectiveness of teaching accountability. Critical thinking (CT) is established almost universally as a core goal in education, but continued association of practices involved in CT with education in the global north has constructed a discourse of deficit that underpins flows in higher education to institutions in the north, especially in the Anglosphere. The study presented in this paper is based on an analysis of the evidence of CT skills by a group of Chinese academics interviewed at the end of a short professional development program at an Australian university. Findings revealed that although participants voiced deficit discourses in relation to their own CT capacities and those of students and academics in China more generally, their responses to questions about any potential transfer of their learning to practice offered evidence of CT. This study presents a conceptual model that investigates teaching satisfaction as an outcome variable in mainland China. The model incorporates the mediating mechanism of emotional intelligence and the moderating role of physical activity. The results of a survey of 2500 university teachers from 25 public institutions, which tested teaching satisfaction, demonstrate that job stress is negatively related to teaching satisfaction and indirectly related to emotional intelligence. Physical exercise acts as a moderating factor that alleviates the negative correlation between job stress and emotional intelligence. Overall, our findings indicate that enhancing the frequency of physical exercises can potentially alleviate stress, regulate emotional intelligence, and ultimately contribute to a positive enhancement in teaching satisfaction.
