The Executive Committee of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, during its annual meeting in Glasgow, Scotland, in July 1990, decided to transform the Subcommittee on Skin Tests to the Subcommittee on AIlergen Standardization and Skin Tests. Furthermore, the business meeting of this Subcommittee decided to produce a revised version of the 1989 Position Paper on skin tests used in type 1 allergy skin testing and include in the new version a chapter on "Allergen standardization by in vito and in vivo methods," replacing the chapter on "Biologic standardization." The new chapter includes a general description of factors which affect the potency, and composition of allergen extracts and a second part focusing on standardization of allergenic extracts used for skin testing.

This article presents the author's experience and reflection on the Mobile HCI 2004 conference, which was held in Glasgow, Scotland from September 13-16. Mobile HCI is rapidly becoming one of the prime conferences on human-computer interaction (HCI) with mobile technology. The conference, chaired by Mark Dunlop of the University of Strathclyde and Stephen Brewster of Glasgow University, gathered a heterogeneous group of academic and practitioners that has acquired a unique identity over the past five years. While still smaller than other related conferences such as Interact or Ubicomp, Mobile HCI has grown significantly. The 2004 conference hosted 67 contributions, including full papers, short papers, and posters, and more than 220 participants. The growth of attendee and submission numbers shows both that mobile computing research is becoming increasingly accessible to a broader range of academics and that industrial players, especially manufacturers, are increasingly integrating HCI into their design processes. The most represented regions were Great Britain and Ireland, Scandinavia, German-speaking countries, North America, and East Asia. This confirms that the conference's character is eminently European, yet open to contributions from all over the world.

The IRPA13 Congress took place from 14-18 May 2012 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and was attended by almost 1500 radiological protection professionals. This article presents information on the annual conference of the British Accounting Association held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland in April 1993. The conference and location attracted some 400 academics, including a large number of overseas participants. The conference documentation showed an expected total of 180 papers sub-divided into twenty-four parallel sessions offering a varied menu across all major research themes. In addition, the programme included the promise of a forum session for those interested in using computers in teaching, and a debate between representatives of the Scottish Chartered Accountants' Institute and the profession's nemesis, Austin Mitchell. After lunch the conference was opened and the participants were welcomed, in the magnificent Barony Hall. This welcome was immediately followed by the opening plenary session, which was given by Ray Ball of the University of Rochester. The subsequent opening parallel sessions showed that timekeeping would be of the essence. The 30-minute time slots often proved insufficient to allow for the questions and discussion, which provide the all-important feedback to authors.

The article discusses several papers presented during a symposium entitled Cerebrovascular Function: Changes in Health and Disease held at Life Sciences 2007 in Glasgow, Scotland on July 10.
