Information about several papers discussed at the International Conference on Mesoscale Processes in Atmosphere, Ocean and Environmental Systems, held at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, India is presented. The article discusses the issues focused upon in the Population Summit held in October 1993 in New Delhi, India. Organized by 15 of the world's scientific academies, this gathering was the first large-scale collaborative activity of its kind. It brought together academicians and other invited scholars representing over 60 scientific academies to examine the relationships between population, natural resources, and the environment. The massive volume that resulted from the summit, covering the invited papers plus some peripheral materials, was published quickly, well in time to serve as background papers for the September 1994 International Conference on Population and Development. The underlying theme in the New Delhi manifesto is the need for internationally coordinated planned action. Improved pricing, taxing and regulatory policies that take into account environmental costs, thereby influencing consumption behavior is an ambitious goal. In sum, to criticize the groping for social improvement is to attack virtue, virtuous people and the greatest offense of all, a reform-minded international bureaucracy.

An early version of this article was prepared as a background paper for the Population Summit of the World's Scientific Academies, held in New Delhi during 24-27 October 1993. and was also the basis of the 1993 Sidney Ball Lecture at the University of Oxford, a much-shortened version of which was published in Scientific American (Dasgupta 1995a) These essays, in turn, were based on ideas that were developed in my book, An Inquiry into Well-Being and Destitution (Dasgupta 1993). The article reports on research papers related to sleep, discussed at a symposium on exercise and sleep held at the meeting of the World Federation for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine Societies in New Delhi, India in September 2005. Different aspects of urban housing were examined including policies, regulations, finance, consumer and socio-economics. The methods, materials and construction management techniques were explored. The emerging areas, rehabilitation and expansion of supporting infrastructure were tackled.

The article presents information about a symposium on Pigmentary Disorders and a workshop on Communicable Dermatoses sponsored by the International Society of Tropical Dermatology together with the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists held in New Delhi, India on February 26-27, 1976. The meeting was attended by 350 members and guests from at least a dozen countries. The president's address served as an auspicious beginning for an excellent conference. Sixteen excellent papers were presented on the subjects of hypo and hyperpigmentary diseases of the skin. Panel discussions were held at which individuals from all corners of the world presented ideas.

This article focuses on the Fifth International Arbitration Congress held in New Delhi, India. The general theme of the congress was "Developing Effective International Commercial Arbitration," under the sponsorship of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration. The purpose of the congress was well described by K. K. Birla, president of the Indian Council of Arbitration. According to Birla, the meeting has shown concrete results and has been recognized for the purpose of facilitating the smooth and rapid growth of international trade and business relation.

This article provides a critical summary and review of the presentations and discussions that took place during the Fifth International Conference on Entertainment Education (EE) in New Delhi, India, in November 2011, in an attempt to understand what it tells us about the state of the field and where it is going. This gathering of EE scholars, practitioners, activists, donors, government policymakers, media producers, artists, writers and performers from 31 countries represented a broad spectrum of contemporary work and perspectives on EE, reflecting its topical, geographic, conceptual, technological and methodological diversity. Key themes that shape EE discourse today are identified, including a focus on increasing equity, affirming the power of narrative and storytelling for social change, and expanding opportunities for transformative dialogue. The review also identified several key challenges facing the field of EE going forward, including how to work effectively with donor agencies and the private sector, how to balance the imperatives of research and practice, and how to maintain a creative dynamic between art/entertainment and science/education. The researchers argue that the fundamental principles embodied in EE practice may facilitate how the field responds to these challenges, as EE looks to a future of expanding scale, increasing demand, decentralisation of access and diversification of technology. This article presents information on the report of the XIIth World Water Congress of International Water Resource Association. The Congress was held in New Delhi in India during November 22-25, 2005. Around 500 participants from various countries made their presence at the Congress. It was inaugurated by Santosh Mohan Dev, Union Minister of India for Water Resource. The theme of the Congress was "water for sustainable development-towards innovative solutions." The theme was sub-divided in nine topics. The topics include integrated water resources management, water infrastructure development, economics and financing of water, water governance and water security and risk management. This part of the report covers mainly the views from politicians, policy makers, decision makers, lead institutions and lead thinkers around the world. While inaugurating the Conference Dev highlighted India's main water concerns including the development of water infrastructure. He also stressed the need for integrated water resources management including measures for conservation and rainwater harvesting to recharge the groundwater, increasing water efficiency and the creation of storage capacity.

This article focuses on the Global Consultation on Safe Water and Sanitation for the 1990s conference held in New Delhi, India in September 1990. According to the working paper of the 115-nation conference, about 40 percent of the world's population suffers from serious water shortages. With urbanization continuing and world population growing at about two percent each year, the conferees found that governments and international organizations are losing ground in the water crisis and that the number of nations lacking adequate renewable water resources is expected to nearly double from 19 in 1975 to an estimated 37 by 20225. The World Health Organization estimates that, of the world's 5 billion people, 1.2 billion do not have safe drinking water and 1.7 billion do not have adequate sanitation facilities. Although drinking water has been made available to 1.3 billion more people in the last decade, more efforts should be done including decentralizing water supply systems, making the planning and provision of water resources more efficient, and enlarging the role of women in decision-making.

This article focuses on New Delhi, India declaration adopted during the XIIth World Water Congress of International Water Resources Association (IWRA). The Congress was organized by the IWRA in association with the Indian Regional Committee of IWRA and the Central Board of Irrigation and Power of India. The duration of the Congress was from the November 22-25, 2005. The declaration stated that water should be conserved, protected and developed because it is the engine of economic growth, a pillar of sustainable development, an unquestioned fundamental requirement to alleviate poverty and a basic need for every form of life on the planet. The declaration called upon the leaders of the world to place water infrastructure development on the top of the agenda to address and reverse the trends of decades of decline in financial allocation by governments and financial institutions. Before adopting the declaration the Congress raised attention to the implementation of integrated water resources management, focused in particular on the aspects of water efficiency, the importance of stakeholder participation and small-scale adapted solutions in water resources management.
