This article presents information on several forthcoming conferences related to visual sociology. International Conference, in Zeist Holland, will be held from June 13-18, 1986. The conference is sponsored by: the Dutch Sociological and Anthropological Association, the European Association for the Visual Studies of Man and the international Visual Sociology Association. Visual Sociology and Visual Anthropology are two new fields which have undergone a relatively strong development during the last few years. The objective of the conference in Zeist is to give a snapshot picture of the State of the Arts of International Visual Sociology and Visual Anthropology. On October 9, 10, and 11, 1986, the Institute of Culture and Communication of Temple University will host the Sixth International Conference on Culture and Communication at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel in center city Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This Conference is intended as an interdisciplinary forum for the growing interest and research on relationships of society, culture and communication.

Three papers are presented From the first symposium on ethical issues in aggression research of the International Society for Research on Aggression held at the biennial meetings 1980 in Haren, The Netherlands. The symposium reflected a growing awareness of the society that their research is a matter for public concern and scrutiny, both for its potentially good uses, and for its potential misuse and misinterpretation. A paper by Santiago Genove´s, a Mexican anthropologist, outlined some of the issues concerning the dissemination of information and misinformation of aggression to the public, along with an extensive bibliography on the subject. A paper by Paul Brain, a British zoologist, addressed the issues surrounding the use of animals in aggression research and the arguments being used in public attacks upon it. Daniel Wikler, a practitioner of normative ethics from the United States, discussed ethics as theory and as practice and suggested some of the types of actions that the Society could consider undertaking. The article presents information on the Second Conference of the European Philosophy of Science Association, EPSA09, held in VU University Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2009. This was reportedly in tradition of organizing biennial meetings to discuss philosophy of science. Individuals contributed papers and also symposia were also programmed. Three invited speakers from different countries and different subfields also gave plenary lectures.

The article presents abstracts of papers presented at the 9th Annual Meeting of the Society for Cutaneous Ultrastructure Research, held at Leiden, the Netherlands, in April 1982. Fetal manifestation of bullous ichthyosiform erythroderma and prenatal diagnosis of the disease by means of electron microscopy of fetal skin biopsies was discussed. A female patient with a generalized congenital ichthyosis was presented. The clinical picture was characterized by a reticulate hyperkeratosis with a remarkable skin pattern. Immuno-electronmicroscopic study of Langerhans' cells was also presented.

In this special issue we present three papers selected from the 18th meeting of the EURO Working Group on Transportation (EWGT) which was held in July 2015 in Delft, the Netherlands, organized by Delft University of Technology. The selected contributions reflect the diversity of topics that were addressed in this conference, which is dedicated to mathematical modeling of transportation problems. We are happy to have a small but representative sample in which three different modes of transportation are in focus: the bicycle, the car and the airplane. The editors are very grateful for all the work that authors and referees have put in creating interesting research papers in this broad field of transportation research. This editorial first explains what the EWGT is and how the EWGT conference was organized. The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies is holding a World Conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands from June 21-26, 1992 with the theme "Trauma and Tragedy: The Origins, Management and Prevention of Traumatic Stress in Today's World."

The article presents information about the fourth Maastricht Audit Research Symposium held from October 24-25, 1994 in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The first presentation was by Hun-Tong Tan from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He presented a paper titled "Organizational Levels and Attributes for Superior Audit Performance." He identified auditor attributes required for superior performance at the different organizational levels of the audit firm. Different responsibilities at different levels in the audit firm may lead to a variation in the relative importance of key attributes required for superior performance. He surveyed partners and managers of three Big Six firms in Singapore to gather information about the importance of key attributes at the various organizational levels. The paper was discussed by Rina Vaatstra of the University of Limburg, Maastricht. She pointed out that this kind of research is relevant, especially for hiring policies of audit firms. However, she indicated that the study would have had more external validity if the evaluation process more commonly used in practice had been applied.

This article reviews the 7th International Self-Determination Theory (SDT) Conference which was held at Hotel Zuiderduin in the Netherlands during May 2019. In addition to the founders of SDT; Richard Ryan and Edward Deci, acting as plenary speakers, the call for papers sourced presenters from across multiple academic fields, and within industry, to present symposia, poster presentations, and papers under several themes. These themes extended to recent theoretical developments in SDT, the science of SDT, applications of SDT and future directions. This review will begin with a commentary on the organisation of the conference, briefly outline potential areas of interest for self-access learning researchers and practitioners to pursue and conclude with takeaways from the plenaries. This article introduces four papers that were presented at a payments conference 'Retail Payments: Mapping Out the Road Ahead,' which was held at De Nederlandsche Bank in Amsterdam in April of 2016. These papers focus on various behavioral aspects of consumers and merchants in their choice and acceptance of payment instruments and payment activity. End-user behavior has implications for how the retail payment landscape is likely to evolve and, therefore, will need to be considered by policymakers charged with overseeing the development of retail payments. The article provides information on a conference organized by the Dutch Group for the Study of the History of Crime and the Criminal Law held from May 16-17, 1977. The Dutch organizers brought together fifteen varied papers which attracted a large international audience to seminars at the Free University of Amsterdam and the University of Leiden in Netherlands. In this article, the author summarizes the plenary sessions and lists the papers presented in the parallel sessions of the Third EIASM Workshop on Accounting in Europe held at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in June 1993. One of the papers discussed in the plenary sessions is "The True and Fair View: Impact on and of the Fourth Directive," by Chris Nobes. In the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy, the words used in the legislation, which implemented the Directive, were different from those used in the official translations of the Directive itself. Based on his analysis, and on extensive communication with experts in each country, the author drew conclusions regarding the signifiers, the signified and the effects. Another paper discussed is "Segmental Reporting: Regulation and Practice in Germany in Comparison to International Standards," by Axel Haller. A trend is emerging where large multinational German companies are realizing that they must adopt internationally accepted principles to achieve better access to international capital markets.

Information about several papers discussed at the international conference titled "Contemporary Jewish Writers in Italy: A Generational Approach," hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute on October 5 to 7, 2006 in Amsterdam, Netherlands is presented. The March/May 2004 special issue of the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics presents papers presented at the Maastricht, the Netherlands-Cambridge, Massachusetts Symposium 2002. The Limburg Institute of Financial Economics, the Netherlands hosted this third symposium, which was attended by 43 participants. In all, eleven papers were presented, with nine being selected for publication in this special issue of the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics. Of these nine articles, research teams based in the United States write four, another four are from Europe, and one is from the Far East. That means that the special issue of the journal is becoming increasingly international in scope, which underlines the growing quality of research in real estate finance and economics outside of the United States.

This editorial introduction has twin purposes. The first is to make a wide audience aware of the new Dutch HRM Network. The second is to introduce a set of papers which make a contribution to the connections between HR policies/strategies and organizational performance. This article reflects on a keynote presentation made at the 32nd Council for Hospitality Management Education Research Conference hosted at NHL Stenden University of Applied Science in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. The field of study prepares managers who will organise the delivery of food and/or drink and/or accommodation in a service setting. The core concern of the article is to critique biases of higher education provision. The vocational nature of programmes tends to prioritise job readiness at the expense of some theoretical dimensions of the study of hospitality. These biases are compounded by a tendency to limit the industrial context to luxury hotels and restaurants. Students' career perceptions are thereby constrained and limited. The study of hospitality should adopt a critical studies approach; several recent publications might indicate avenues for further research and programme content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The EFCE 16th Loss Prevention Symposium was held in June 2019 in Delft, NL. • The first symposium of this series was in 1974 at the same location. • A comparison was made what knowledge has been gained in those 45 years. • An overview is given of the many interesting presentations at the current event. • The evolution toward Industry 4.0 presents new challenges to process safety. The first European Loss Prevention Symposium under the auspices of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) took place in 1974 in the then new Aula of the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. After the triennial symposium over a period of 45 years having been organized in several European cities, it returned in 2019 to the Delft Aula. Authors of this paper are members of EFCE Loss Prevention Working Party organizing the LP Symposia and after nearly half century, it is therefore worthwhile to look back and also to look forward, following the evolution of process safety. This paper presents an impression of the changes in process safety, risk management approaches, and methods over that 45-year period, while at the same time the last symposium contributions are briefly reviewed and a few highlights, called breakthroughs, are identified. Paper presented at the Sixth Water Information Summit: Breaking The Barriers Let Water Information Flow! Waterweb Consortium and IRC International Water And Sanitation Centre September 9-12 Delft, The Netherlands 2003. Provides an analysis of subscription and participation rates by gender and region for six e-conferences which focussed on water supply and sanitation issues. Raises questions about why differential rates of access and participation exist for men and women, and identifies some of the disincentives that exist against women's participation. The article focuses on the International Digital Games Research Conference held at Utrecht University, Utrecht, Netherlands, from November 4 to 6, 2003. It is the first annual conference of Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA). The conference marked a coming of age for the DiGRA. DiGRA was formed in 2002 following a series of discussions between researchers pursuing games-related research, predominantly in north-western Europe and the U.S. It had 500 participants and an impressively wide range of themed panels. The scale of the conference and the scope of the research presented evidenced a new confidence in those conducting digital games research and a willingness to explore a diverse network of relations with other, more established disciplinary areas. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the conference was the breadth of people in attendance, united by their passion (even self-confessed addiction) for game- playing, not simply computer or digital game-playing, but game-playing in general.

This section offers news briefs on issues related to collections in Netherlands. A two-day symposium was held in Amsterdam from September 28 to 30, 2000 to discuss a paper museum of the academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The Rotterdam-based Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1999. A new international publication series called "Studies in the History of Collections" was launched in November 2000 to explore collecting practices in the arts and sciences.

The article discusses the highlights of the XVth International Association of Media Historians Conference entitled "Film And The First World War" held on July 5 to 11, 1993 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The conference focused on three distinct themes that include National Experience and Trans-National Trade, Uses of Cinema in Wartime, and Framing the Great War. High points of the conference included the presentation of papers and panels on the war on television.

Introduction: There is growing acknowledgement of the benefits of incorporating a bio-psychosocial model of understanding pain within physical therapist practice1. Consequently this has led to an increasing interest in interventions such Pain neuroscience education (PNE). However, pain management strategies developed by clinicians in one culture may not necessarily be understood, appropriate, or effective in another culture2 Methods: This study is part of a broader research in the development of culturally sensitive pain neuroscience education for the Lebanese population. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to first gain an in-depth understanding of the Lebanese physiotherapists' perceptions towards the management of chronic low back pain as well as the knowledge regarding PNE. A qualitative one-to-one semi-structured interviews with 10 practicing physical therapists were conducted. The transcribed text from the interviews was analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results: Several themes were generated, identified, and constructed by the researchers: (1) physiotherapists use of a biomechanical approach. (2) Poor knowledge about the bio-psychosocial approach or PNE. (3) Barrier and facilitation for the implementation of PNE. Discussion: The preliminary results showed a limited knowledge of the bio-psychosocial approach, or PNE, and that the Lebanese physical therapist use more a biomechanical approach in the treatment and assessment of people with chronic low back pain. Process evaluation: The results showed that training is needed for physiotherapists to deliver a broader model of care, and that future research should focus on developing a culturally sensitive PNE material. Introduction Research on Performance-Based Work Assessment, also known as Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE), has evolved substantially over the past decades. Although this field of research has developed, the use of FCE has been an object of discussion and debate internationally. Unfortunately, there has been no platform or infrastructure available for FCE researchers to present their research, discuss, and collaborate. Methods An International FCE Research Meeting was held in Haren, The Netherlands on October 25, 2012, with 48 participants from eight countries. The meeting consisted of presentation of new research, two debates, and an open discussion that aimed at creating an overview of gaps in research as identified by the participants. Results The discussion resulted in the identification of 17 research needs, which are listed in this paper. Important categories were: further validation of FCE across settings, jurisdictions and patient groups; additional impact and cost-effectiveness evaluation of FCE compared to alternatives; and the use of ICF as guiding framework. Conclusion Researchers, clinicians, and other professionals in the FCE area are interested in improving the quality and content of FCE research by setting a common set of priorities and creating an international peer network.
