The article focuses on China's economy which grew by 7.9 percent in the second quarter of 2009 as a result of growth in industrial production, fixed-asset investment and retail sales. During the first half of the year, investment accounted for 87.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). Aside from high GDP growth, it is the author's view that fast, sound and sustainable growth can be achieved by increasing domestic demand and modifying the economic structure.
