The article presents a study on the determination of the efficiency improvement potential for public water supply systems of centrifugal network pumps. The study analyzed the efficiency and calculated energy usage of variable speed centrifugal pumps. Result showed energy savings of 1110 megawatt hour (MWh) annually when control mode of variable speed network pumps is changed from constant to proportional pressure control mode.

The "load-following" characteristic of the power system makes the electricity consumption behavior on the load side crucial for the low-carbon operation of the distribution network. To address this, this paper proposes an improved dynamic carbon emission factor for the distribution network, taking into account the spatiotemporal characteristics of carbon emission intensity and the integration capacity of photovoltaics (PV). Based on this, a calculation method for the carbon emissions of the distribution network load is provided. Subsequently, for commercial and industrial user scenarios, demand response models are separately constructed for commercial and industrial loads based on different driving mechanisms. Using time-of-use electricity prices as decision variables, optimization scheduling of the distribution network is carried out with the objectives of minimizing scheduling costs and carbon emissions. At the same time, a case study is conducted in an improved IEEE-33 node distribution network. The results indicate that, under the guidance of the improved dynamic carbon emission factor, load transfer can be achieved through fluctuating electricity prices, effectively reducing the scheduling costs of the distribution network, decreasing carbon emissions, and enhancing the PV integration capacity of the distribution network in different user scenarios. Finally, it is hoped that in the future, this optimization method can be widely applied, and further research can explore coordinated strategies among generation, network, load, and storage to advance the development of the power industry. A run‐of‐the‐river power plant is a renewable energy source used for electricity production. Its power output depends on the varying water flow rate over time, which can impact the reliability of the electric network. Previous research has not studied the effects of water flow rate and temperature variations on the hazard rate of the plant's components. This paper addresses this gap by investigating the impact of these variations on the reliability of electric networks with run‐of‐the‐river power plants. The analysis considers the hazard rates of the plant's components, incorporating the relationship between hazard rate and temperature based on the Arrhenius law. Parameters such as power output, current, power loss, operating temperature, and hazard rate are calculated for different water flow rates and ambient temperatures. Numerical simulations on a test system are conducted to examine the influence of water flow rate and temperature on the reliability indices of the electric network. The results demonstrate that water flow rate and temperature significantly affect the hazard rates of run‐of‐the‐river power plants. The objective of this paper is to investigate the nonlinear relationship between ICT and CO2 emissions by controlling for economic growth, foreign direct investment, energy consumption, and trade openness. Using data from 16 Middle East and North African (MENA) countries over the period 1990–2019, we apply the Panel Smooth Transition Regression (PSTR) model, as introduced by (González A, Teräsvirta T, vanDijk D (2005) Panel smooth transition regression models. SEE/EFI Working Paper Series in Economics and Finance, No. 604), to study the potential regime-switching behavior of the relationship between the variables. The results reveal the existence of a strong regime-switching effect between ICT and CO2 emissions. It was found that after reaching a certain threshold, ICT use and penetration starts to significantly mitigate environmental degradation. Our results show that high levels of ICT not only improve environmental quality but can also be part of the solution to combat the environmental challenges that the MENA region has faced over the past decades. In addition, to account for the potential endogeneity bias, we also develop and estimate a PSTR model with instrumental variables (IV-PSTR) using the approach of (Fouquau et al., Econ Model 25:284–299, 2008). Electricity consumption in buildings is one of the major causes of energy usage and knowledge of this can help building owners and users increase energy efficiency and conservation efforts. For Pacific Island countries, building electricity demand data is not readily accessible or available for constructing models to predict electricity demand. This paper starts to fill this gap by studying the case of schools in Fiji. The aim of the paper is to assess the factors affecting electricity demand for grid-connected Fijian schools and use this assessment to build mathematical models (multiple linear regression (MLR) and artificial neural network (ANN)) to predict electricity consumption. The average grid-connected electricity demand in kWh/year was 1411 for early childhood education schools, 5403 for primary schools, and 23,895 for secondary schools. For predicting electricity demand (ED) for all grid-connected schools, the stepwise MLR model shows that taking logarithm transformations on both the dependent variable and independent variables (number of students, lights, and air conditioning systems) yields statistically significant independent variables with an R2 value of 73.3% and RMSE of 0.2248. To improve the predicting performance, ANN models were constructed on both the natural form of variables and transformed variables. The optimum ANN model had an R2 value of 95.3% and an RMSE of 59.4 kWh/year. The findings of this study can assist schools in putting measures in place to reduce their electricity demand, associated costs, and carbon footprint, as well as help government ministries make better-informed policies. Background: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) relies mainly on fossil fuels in their energy supply, leading to higher CO2 emissions, pollution, and further environmental degradation. This paper uses the panel vector autoregressive and the Granger non-causality test in the heterogeneous panels, together with long-run estimation techniques, to examine the dynamic link among energy consumption, economic growth, and carbon emissions with the focus on renewable energy for the ASEAN countries in the past three decades. Results: The findings from this paper indicate that carbon emissions are associated with energy consumption. In contrast, renewable energy usage reduces CO2 emissions, improving environmental quality. Economic growth is associated with increased energy consumption and carbon emissions in the ASEAN countries. The findings also indicate that the effects of energy consumption on economic growth are more significant than those of renewable energy in ASEAN. When considered together, these findings form a vicious circle regarding the energy–growth–emission nexus for the ASEAN economies. In addition, a bidirectional Granger causality among energy consumption, economic growth, CO2 emissions and renewable energy usage is confirmed. Conclusions: Renewable energy has emerged as an important viable option for the ASEAN nations to achieve their dual objectives of enhanced economic growth, reduced CO2 emission, leading to improved environmental quality. To support increasing renewable capacity for a net-zero future, energy storage will play a key role in maintaining grid stability. In this paper, all current and near-future energy storage technologies are compared for three different scenarios: (1) fixed electricity buy-in price, (2) market-based electricity buy-in price, and (3) energy storage integrated into a fully renewable electricity system. In the first part of this study, an algorithm is devised to simulate strategic buy-in of electricity for energy storage. This analysis yields a qualitative decision-making tool for a given energy storage duration and size. Building upon the first part's findings, an integration study gives insight into expected power prices and expected storage size in a typical northwestern European fully renewable energy system. The integration study shows significant need for electricity storage with durations spanning from one to several days, typically around 40 h. Pumped Hydro Storage and Pumped Thermal storage surface as the best options. The overall levelized costs of storage are expected to be in the USD 200–500/MWh range. Integration of storage with renewables can yield a system-levelized cost of electricity of about USD 150/MWh. Electric power is the basic industry of a modern country. The rapid development of the power industry has promoted economic development and social progress. With the establishment of the carbon neutrality target of carbon peak, China's power industry is also facing new situations and new challenges. This paper innovatively introduces the concept of allometric growth in biology, and uses the data of provincial electricity consumption and economic development from 1972 to 2017, to study the allometric growth relationship between electricity consumption and economics in China at multiple scales. Combined with the spatial autocorrelation analysis method, the temporal and spatial characteristics of allometric growth between electricity consumption and economic development were researched based on the analysis of spatial correlation of GDP electricity consumption intensity. The results show that: (1) The provincial GDP electricity consumption intensity shows an aggregate distribution, and the local aggregate pattern changed significantly from 1972 to 2017. (2) The High-High Cluster gradually disappeared, and the Low-Low Cluster moved southward, appearing in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. (3) The differential growth coefficient of electricity consumption and economic development increased initially and decreased from 1972 to 2017. (4) GDP would increase by 7.4%, 20.1%, and 15.6% in the simulation of electricity consumption, increasing 10% at the three stages of China's economic development. (5) The allometric growth coefficients of electricity consumption and economic development are very different in the three economic belts, eight economic zones, and provinces with different characteristics at the different stages of economic development. Formulating differentiated regulation policies for regional economic development and electricity consumption will be conducive to the coordinated development of electric power production and the national economy. Identification of abnormal user behavior helps reduce non-technical losses and regulatory operating costs for power marketing departments. Therefore, this paper proposes an adaptive golden jackal algorithm optimization improved tri-training method to identify user abnormal behavior. First, this paper constructs multiple weak learners based on the abnormal behavior data of users, combined with the method of sampling and putting back, and uses the filtering method to select the tri-training base model. Second, aiming at the problem that the traditional optimization algorithm has a slow convergence speed and is easy to fall into local optimization, the adaptive golden jackal algorithm is used to realize the parameter optimization of tri-training. Based on the electricity consumption data of a certain place in the past five years, it is found that the model can provide stable identification results: accuracy = 0.987, f1-score = 0.973. Electricity demand-response programmes, such as the incentive-based and price-based programmes, have been used by utilities to induce customers to reduce their electricity consumption during peak periods. This study investigates the production decisions of a two-stage production system under these programmes in a situation where peak periods arrive randomly in the manufacturing cycle. Analytical results show that under demand-response programmes, the manufacturer, who aims at minimising the total operational cost, usually selects a lower production rate during peak periods and a higher one during non-peak periods. Notably, the uncertainty of the peak periods also has a significant influence on the manufacturer's production plans under these programmes. This paper further investigates the efficiency of different demand-response programmes in reducing the inventory holding cost and electricity cost. The results indicate that participating in the demand-response programmes does not always result in a higher inventory holding cost, which goes against the manufacturer's intuition about these programmes. In addition, this paper evaluates the manufacturers' preference for these demand-response programmes by comparing the operational cost savings generated from participating in the two programmes. Energy efficiency has become a major concern for manufacturing systems, due to industry being the largest user of scarce, finite energy sources, and also to recent events which have pushed energy prices to alarming levels. In the present Industry 4.0 context, Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS) are therefore one of the most promising manufacturing paradigm. In this paper, we investigate the suitability of one of the most common types of RMS, the Parallel-Serial manufacturing line with Crossover, to help minimise the peak of the electric power consumption. More specifically, the balancing of such a production line is studied, so as to integrate power peak minimisation from the design stage. Thus, we define the Parallel-Serial-with-Crossover Assembly Line Balancing Problem with Power Peak Minimization, a new combinatorial NP-hard problem. We also propose a suitable time-indexed Integer Linear Program that integrates balancing and scheduling decisions and a matheuristic algorithm designed to tackle large-size instances. Both approaches are tested on a wide set of instances. The computational results show that relevant power peak reductions can be achieved (33% on average), opening up promising perspectives from both algorithmic and managerial viewpoints. Electric buses are environmentally friendly with the features of zero emissions and low noise levels. Therefore, it is an inevitable trend to replace traditional fuel buses with electric buses. In the urban transportation system, the most common electric bus scheduling mode is single-vehicle-type scheduling, where crowdedness in peak hours could impair the bus service level. In contrast, a high vacancy rate in offpeak hours might lead to a waste of resources. To balance efficiency and the bus service level, this paper built an electric bus scheduling model with multiple vehicle types distinguished by vehicle configurations, such as bus capacity, battery capacity, purchase cost, charging power, and electricity consumption rate. The optimization objective was to minimize the bus system costs, including bus depreciation costs, charging costs, and congestion time costs. Then, a genetic algorithm was designed to solve the model, and the model is verified by a case study of one bus line in Nanjing, China. Compared with the single-vehicle-type scheduling schemes, including large and small vehicle types, the experimental results showed that the proposed model can reduce total bus system costs by 3.52% and 6.85%, respectively. Energy is a key source of economic growth for any economy because of the fact that many consumption and production activities involve energy as a basic input. Energy is one of the most important inputs for economic development. The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between gross domestic product and energy consumption on the sample data taken for the period from 2008 to 2020 for Republic of North Macedonia. Energy consumption measured in kilo tons of oil equivalent is taken as an independent variable, whereas gross domestic product measured in millions of denars is taken as dependent variable. In the performed statistical tests descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis were primarily involved. The conclusion of this paper is that there is a positive relationship between energy consumption and gross domestic product in the Republic of North Macedonia. The existence of a positive relationship between growth level and energy consumption in Republic of North Macedonia suggests that any disruption in production or in consumption of the energy caused by price fluctuations or possible shortages of energy will have a negative impact over the country's GDP. The paper presents a novel charging load prediction model for electric vehicles that takes into account traffic conditions and ambient temperature, which are often overlooked in conventional EV load prediction models. Additionally, the paper investigates the impact of disordered charging on distribution networks. Firstly, the paper creates a traffic road network topology and speed-flow model to accurately simulate the driving status of EVs on real road networks. Next, we calculate the electric vehicle power consumption per unit kilometer by considering the effects of temperature and vehicle speed on electricity consumption. Then, we combine the vehicle's main parameters to create a single electric vehicle charging model, use the Monte Carlo method to simulate electric vehicle travel behavior and charging, and obtain the spatial and temporal distribution of total charging load. Finally, the actual traffic road network and typical distribution network in northern China are used to analyze charging load forecast estimates for each typical functional area under real vehicle–road circumstances. The results show that the charging load demand in different areas has obvious spatial and temporal distribution characteristics and differences, and traffic conditions and temperature factors have a significant impact on electric vehicle charging load. Climate change has become increasingly important in recent years. It is the outcome of the burning of fossil fuels that increased the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), over the last century. Mitigating the impacts of climate change requires a better understanding and assessment of the countries' economic decisions on the amount of CO 2 emissions. This paper assesses the variability between the different countries in the trends of CO 2 emissions and electricity consumption from 1975 to 2014, while identifying clusters of countries of similar trends over time. The novel methodology applied in this paper enables us to assess long-debated issues in climate literature. The temporal dynamic effects of electricity consumption and economic growth on CO 2 emissions across countries are studied using functional data analysis (FDA) methods. The latter have proven to be useful tools for visualising similarities and differences in the non-linear trends of CO 2 emissions without forcing linear trends and stationary relationships which can be unrealistic and misleading. The results indicate the possibility of identifying changes in the trends of CO 2 emissions and electricity consumption for a wide range of heterogeneous countries over the study period. The findings also reveal that economic growth puts a strain on the environment, where many high-income countries are still away from attaining economic-energy sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Under the urban development trend of sprawl, improving energy use efficiency is a proper way to promote green and low-carbon construction in cities. This paper uses panel data from 283 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2008 to 2019 to measure the urban sprawl index, and analyze the spatial-temporal evolution law of urban sprawl and electricity consumption. The relationship between urban sprawl and electricity consumption is empirically examined, and the differential effect of urban sprawl on electricity consumption is analyzed. Finally, the impact of urban sprawl on electricity consumption based on a spatial perspective is explored in depth by establishing a spatial error model. We found the following: (1) The levels of urban sprawl and urban electricity consumption are on the rise. The spatial distribution of urban sprawl is more dispersed, and cities with high electricity consumption levels are mostly concentrated in the eastern coastal areas. (2) Urban sprawl exacerbates electricity consumption, and this conclusion is still robust after a series of robustness tests were conducted and endogeneity issues were taken into account. In terms of the influence mechanism, urban sprawl mainly affects electricity consumption by changing the allocation of land resources, increasing the dependence on private transportation, and inhibiting green technology innovation. (3) The incremental effect of urban sprawl on electricity consumption is more pronounced in cities with high sprawl levels, weak environmental regulations, and low green innovation levels, as well as in west cities. (4) Urban sprawl and electricity consumption both have a significant positive spatial correlation. Electricity consumption of cities is not only related to their own regions but also influenced by the adjacent regions, and the spatial correlation is mainly reflected in the random error term. Based on the background of carbon neutrality targets, panel data of 30 Chinese provinces during 2000–2019 were selected in this paper to explore the nonlinear correlation mechanism among transportation, tourism development, renewable and non-renewable energy consumption and economic growth. Firstly, by employing a fixed effects model as the base model, we confirmed the existence of correlations among these variables. And the nonlinear moderating effects were also verified by setting interaction terms in the model. Secondly, we further discussed the characteristics of the nonlinear relationship among the variables by employing a threshold effects model. Our results demonstrated that the effect of transportation on economic growth is positive and significant if and only if renewable energy consumption surpasses a certain threshold. Meanwhile, we also found that the effect of tourism development on economic growth is positive when non-renewable energy consumption is under a certain threshold. Finally, our study indicated that transportation maintains a positive and significant effect on economic growth within any threshold of tourism development, and the positive effect gradually increases as the threshold rises. The findings of this paper suggested that for China, the contribution of transportation and tourism to economic growth can be expanded by further expanding the substitution of renewable energy for non-renewable energy. Renewable energy sources (RES) are increasingly being developed and used to address the energy crisis and protect the environment. However, the large‐scale integration of wind and solar energy into the power grid is still challenging and limits the adoption of these new energy sources. Microgrids (MGs) are small‐scale power generation and distribution systems that can effectively integrate renewable energy, electric loads, and energy storage systems (ESS). By using MGs, it is possible to consume renewable energy locally and reduce energy losses from long‐distance transmission. This paper proposes a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)‐based energy management system (EMS) called DRL‐MG to process and schedule energy purchase requests from customers in real‐time. Specifically, the aim of this paper is to enhance the quality of service (QoS) for customers and reduce their electricity costs by proposing an approach that utilizes a Deep Q‐learning Network (DQN) model. Heatwaves are becoming more frequent and severe, intensifying cooling demand and reducing air conditioner efficiencies. This causes peaks in electricity demand that pose operational challenges to power grids. This paper provides methods to mitigate demand peaks and heat stress under heatwaves by jointly adjusting fan speeds and thermostat setpoints in buildings. The methods involve (1) learning baseline models to predict load and thermal comfort, (2) fitting perturbation models that relate fan speed and thermostat setpoint adjustments to perturbations in load and thermal comfort, and (3) optimizing peak load and thermal comfort. The methods are implementable in real buildings, providing fast, accurately predicted optimized solutions that flatten demand peaks and mitigate personal heat stress. This paper demonstrates the methodology through simulation-based case studies of a single building and a six-building neighbourhood. In case studies, the methods reduce peak load by 8–10% while maintaining occupants' thermal comfort within safe and comfortable ranges. The fluctuation of wind power affects the operating safety and power consumption of the electric power grid and restricts the grid connection of wind power on a large scale. Therefore, wind power forecasting plays a key role in improving the safety and economic benefits of the power grid. This paper proposes a wind power predicting method based on a convolutional graph attention deep neural network with multi-wind farm data. Based on the graph attention network and attention mechanism, the method extracts spatial-temporal characteristics from the data of multiple wind farms. Then, combined with a deep neural network, a convolutional graph attention deep neural network model is constructed. Finally, the model is trained with the quantile regression loss function to achieve the wind power deterministic and probabilistic prediction based on multi-wind farm spatial-temporal data. A wind power dataset in the U.S. is taken as an example to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed model. Compared with the selected baseline methods, the proposed model achieves the best prediction performance. The point prediction errors (i.e., root mean square error (RMSE) and normalized mean absolute percentage error (NMAPE)) are 0.304 MW and 1.177%, respectively. And the comprehensive performance of probabilistic prediction (i.e., continuously ranked probability score (CRPS)) is 0.580. Smart Grids (SG) encompass the utilization of large-scale data, advanced communication infrastructure, and enhanced efficiency in the management of electricity demand, distribution, and productivity through the application of machine learning techniques. The utilization of machine learning facilitates the creation and implementation of proactive and automated decision-making methods for smart grids. In this paper, we provide an experimental study to understand the power demands of consumers (domestic and commercial) in SGs. The power demand source is considered a smart plug reading dataset. This dataset is large dataset and consists of more than 850 user plug readings. From the dataset, we have extracted two different user data. Additionally, their hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly power demand is analysed individually. Next, these power demand patterns are utilized as a time series problem and the data is transformed into 5 neighbour problems to predict the next hour, day, week, and month power demand. To learn from the transformed data, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Linear Regression (LR) ML algorithms are used. According to the conducted experiments, we found that ANN provides more accurate prediction than LR Additionally, we observe that the prediction of hourly demand is more accurate than the prediction of daily, weekly, and monthly demand. In order to solve the collaborative optimization scheduling of multi‐microgrid under the high penetration rate of new energy, this paper considered the energy interaction between micro‐grids in multi‐microgrid and the relationship between new energy consumption and electricity cost, constructed a collaborative scheduling model considering both micro‐grid load and main grid wind and optical energy storage, proposed objective function based on economic cost, and improved Genetic Algorithm (GA). The elite thought and catastrophe thought are used to optimize the selection operation, and the particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to optimize the mutation operation. Furthermore, three scenarios were selected to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and the improved GA. The results show that the proposed model can ensure the stable operation of the multi‐microgrid system with a high proportion of new energy access and reduce the operation cost. Self-harvesting and consumption of electrical energy from a small-scale photovoltaic (PV) system became quite a beneficial option for households who seek for an economical, independent and environment-friendly power alternative. However, in practice, prosumers without battery storage systems face some energy flow management issues, when only part of the generated energy is consumed instantly in place, while the rest is exported to the distribution grid or simply lost. The paper examines profiles of some preselected prosumers with small-scale PV installations with the purpose to evaluate losses caused by the inability to consume instantly all generated energy and thus resulting in redundant energy exchange between prosumer's microgrid and distribution grid. The analysis reveals certain anomalies, when local PV system produces enough power to cover all the electricity demand of the household, but energy is still imported from the DSO grid at the same time. These simultaneous flows of import and export active energy were calculated and showed quite significant numbers. The paper digs into this problem through a quantitative evaluation of energy flows within one preselected microgrid using one-second resolution experimental data. In February 2021, Texas was hit by a severe winter storm. The extreme cold weather triggered an unprecedented increase of electricity demand and simultaneous failure of multiple electricity grid components. The dual effect caused a widespread power outage that left millions of Texans without power for days. This paper estimates the indirect economy-wide cascading impact of that power outage. It utilized historical make and use tables between 1997 and 2019 in an inoperability input-output analysis–based economic impact assessment model to quantify the expected indirect cost of the power outage in terms of the loss of gross domestic product of Texas. This research found that expected loss to be approximately $664 million in 2019 values. It also found that in Texas industries such as oil and gas extraction, petroleum, coal products, and so on are particularly vulnerable to such weather-related prolonged power outages. The outcomes of this paper can be used in planning for strategies to make the grid robust, reliable, and resilient to severe weather events. The identification of vulnerable industries can also help in planning for auxiliary capacities so the cascading economic impacts of the weather-related power outages can be reduced. The built-in relay in a meter is a key control component of a smart meter, and its reliability determines whether the user can use electricity safely and smoothly. In this paper, the degradation characteristics of the arc-burning energy are enhanced by the method of K-means clustering to replace degradation data, such as the overtravel time, release time, and other data. In existing methods, the meter needs to be disassembled to describe the degradation trend of the meter relay. The proposed method is combined with a bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) neural network to predict the degradation trend of the relay's performance. In this paper, K-means clustering is used to enhance the extraction of arc energy data features, and then the arc energy data obtained from the reliability lifetime test is assessed to predict the degradation trend of the meter relay by means of a bidirectional LSTM. This paper presents the application of an energy characterization method based on the ISO 50001 standard in a dry paper production plant. This plant operates using electricity, gas, and coal as energy sources. The last two energy sources are used to produce the steam and hot air used in the paper drying process. Through energy characterization, indicators such as energy baseline and consumption indicators were calculated for the plant, with which improvement opportunities were identified. These improvement opportunities were used as case studies for each energy source used and were based on the actual state of the plant. 2011 Midpoint+ ILCD method data was selected from the Ecoinvent database, using OpenLCA 1.7.0 for the energy assessment. The impact categories analyzed in this study were ecotoxicity, eutrophication of rivers and seas, climate change, and human toxicity. As a result of this work, it was found that energy-saving was possible by adjusting the production rate to a load factor of 77%, which implies a gas consumption of 1.6 kWh/kg and a value in the climate change category of 88.5 kg of CO2 equivalent. In addition, some technological improvement opportunities were economical and environmentally evaluated as a result of the sustainable improvement strategy implemented with energy management and life cycle assessment. The study of these technological opportunities showed that in order to achieve a sustainable industrial process, it is important to take into account energy, economic, and environmental criteria in the continuous improvement of the paper production process. As the share of air conditioning electricity consumption within total grid electricity consumption grows, the decomposition of such consumption becomes increasingly crucial for assessing electricity usage patterns, devising consumption scheduling strategies, and maintaining the stability of the power grid. Although there is a strong correlation between apparent temperature and air conditioning electricity consumption, the literature currently available seldom explores the impact of apparent temperature on this consumption. Moreover, there is a scarcity of effective assessment indices to evaluate the efficacy of air conditioning electricity consumption breakdown. This study introduces a method for decomposing electricity consumption from air conditioning units, utilizing effective duration as a basis to tackle these issues. By employing an apparent temperature model as a constraint, this approach identifies the effective operating time of air conditioning and constructs a constrained convex optimization problem to estimate air conditioning power usage. Additionally, a novel evaluation index for the effectiveness of air conditioning electricity consumption decomposition is proposed, which includes penalties for negative decomposed consumption, alongside the traditional consistency index. Comparative experiments are conducted using real electricity consumption data from Fujian Province. Empirical results indicate that the methodology for air conditioning electricity consumption decomposition presented in this paper aligns more closely with actual conditions. To accommodate the rapid development of the distribution network of China, it is essential to research load forecasting methods with higher accuracy and stronger generalization capabilities in order to optimize distribution system control strategies, ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the power system, and provide a stable power supply to users. In this paper, a short-term load forecasting method is proposed for low-voltage distribution substations based on the bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) model. First, principal component analysis (PCA) and the fuzzy C-means method based on a genetic algorithm (GA-FCM) are used to extract the main influencing factors and classify different types of user electricity consumption behaviors. Then, the BiLSTM forecasting model utilizing the stochastic weight averaging (SWA) algorithm to enhance generalization capability is constructed. Finally, the load data from a low-voltage distribution substation in China over recent years are selected as a case study. Compared with conventional LSTM and BiLSTM prediction models, the annual electricity load curves for various user types forecasted by the PCA-BiLSTM model are more closely aligned with actual data curves. The digital economy has played a vital role in changing economic and social development patterns and has had a multifaceted impact on carbon neutrality. This paper strives to contribute to the existing research by analyzing the relationship between the digital economy and electricity consumption intensity and providing a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms that influence the digital economy and energy consumption, particularly focusing on electricity consumption intensity through the construction of a theoretical model. To fulfill this objective, this study introduces the development level of the digital economy into the production function of representative power enterprise, constructs a partial theoretical equilibrium analysis framework, calculates provincial digital economy development indices for Chinese provinces from 2013–2021 using the CRITIC method, and examines the impact of the digital economy on power consumption intensity. The results show that the digital economy can reduce the intensity of power consumption. A unit standard deviation increase in the digital economy development level reduces power consumption intensity by 0.1008 standard deviations. The study also conducts a mechanism analysis with economic growth as the mediating variable, which shows that the digital economy promotes economic growth and reduces electricity consumption intensity. The moderating effect of the digital economy on power consumption is further examined using local government fiscal pressure as the moderating variable. The results show that the impact of the digital economy on reducing power consumption intensity decreases with the increase of government fiscal pressure. This study not only contributes to practical applications but also enhances our comprehension of the interplay between the digital economy and power consumption. On the one hand, the development of the digital economy can reduce power consumption, thus reducing carbon emissions and achieving low-carbon growth. This paper presents a methodology to forecast electrical demand for the Chilean Electrical Power System considering a national, regional, district and bus spatial disaggregation. The methodology developed was based on different kinds of econometric models and end-use models to represent the massification of low carbon emission technologies such as electromobility, electric heating, electric water heating, and distributed generation. In addition, the methodology developed allows for the projection of the electric demand considering different kinds of clients as regulated and non-regulated clients, and different economic sectors. The model was applied to forecast the long-term electricity demand in Chile for the period 2022–2042 for 207 districts and 474 buses. With the development of the economy and society, the importance of a secure and stable electricity supply continues to increase. However, the power grid is facing the test of excess installed capacity, the waste of renewable energy, and a low comprehensive utilization rate. This problem stems from the inconsistent peak–valley differences between power production and consumption, and the lack of clear electricity price signals, which disrupts the safe and stable operation of the power market. This paper combines the interactive transactions among clean energy power generation companies, users, and energy storage, explores how the system optimization model can be reflected in the power market through regulatory measures, and formulates the optimal output scheme of the system under the constraints of clean energy power generation forecast data, user base load forecast data, demand-side resource regulation ability, and energy storage system regulation ability to achieve the goals of comprehensive clean energy power consumption and minimum cost for users. A comprehensive analysis of the proposed model was conducted using actual data from a certain province in China, the results show that the consumption of clean energy will increase by 3% to full consumption and the total cost of users will be 32% lower than that of time-of-use (TOU) power prices, which proves the potential of the proposed joint optimization model in absorbing clean energy and the effectiveness of the market mechanism. Forecasting energy demand is critical to ensure the steady operation of the power system. However, present approaches to estimating power load are still unsatisfactory in terms of accuracy, precision, and efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel method, named ELFNet, for estimating short-term electricity consumption, based on the deep convolutional neural network model with a double-attention mechanism. The Gramian Angular Field method is utilized to convert electrical load time series into 2D image data for input into the proposed model. The prediction accuracy is greatly improved through the use of a convolutional neural network to extract the intrinsic characteristics from the input data, along with channel attention and spatial attention modules, to enhance the crucial features and suppress the irrelevant ones. The present ELFNet method is compared to several classic deep learning networks across different prediction horizons using publicly available data on real power demands from the Belgian grid firm Elia. This paper presents the analytical and numerical application of a method to determine the parameters and power losses in the core of two medium-power synchronous generators. These generators are used as emergency power sources powered by diesel engines, gas engines, and gas turbines. They cover peak electricity demand but can also be used in traction drives. This article presents a new numerical method for determining losses in the generator core based on the use of a time-stepping solution using the FEM method and calculating these losses using analytical formulas. In calculating the losses for the FEM method, approximations of the loss characteristics of the sheet were used with a wide range of induction values and frequencies. This method is specific to the solution used and was adapted from the authors' previous work on losses in induction machines. A one-phase winding with alternating voltage was supplied to determine the basic parameters in the form of synchronous reactance. Also, an important novelty is the introduction of a new method of determining the saturation state of the magnetic circuit, which significantly affects the machine parameters. The obtained results were used in analytical calculations and implemented in a computer program that allows for the calculation of electromagnetic parameters, operating characteristics, and core losses, taking into account additional losses, total losses, and efficiency, as well as machine parameters in unsteady operating states and the current characteristics of a three-phase symmetrical short circuit at the machine terminals. In the context of power system decarbonization, the demand-side strategy for increasing the share of renewable energy is studied for two constrained energy systems. This strategy, which is currently widely suggested in policies on the energy transition, would impact consumer behavior. Despite the importance of studying the latter, the focus here is on decisions regarding the type, location, and timeframe of implementing the related measures. As such, solutions must be assessed in terms of cost and feasibility, technological learning, and by considering geographical and environmental constraints. Based on techno-economic optimization, in this paper we analyze the evolution of the power system and elaborate plausible long-term trajectories in the energy systems of two European islands. The case studies, Procida in Italy and Hinnøya in Norway, are both electrically connected to the mainland by submarine cables and present issues in their power systems, which are here understood as relatively isolated power systems. Renewable energy integration is encouraged by legislative measures in Italy. Although not modeled here, they serve as a backbone for the assumptions of increasing these investments. For Procida, rooftop photovoltaics (PV) coupled with energy storage are integrated in the residential, public, and tertiary sectors. A price-based strategy is also applied reflecting the Italian electricity tariff structure. At a certain price difference between peak and off-peak, the electricity supply mix changes, favoring storage technologies and hence decreasing imports by up to 10% during peak times in the year 2050. In Norway, renewable energy resources are abundant. The analysis for Hinnøya showcases possible cross-sectoral flexibilities through electrification, leading to decarbonization. By fine-tuning electric vehicle charging tactics and leveraging Norway's electricity pricing model, excess electricity demand peaks can be averted. With the continuous growth of electricity demand, the safe and stable operation of distribution lines is crucial for power transportation. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) inspection has been widely used for the maintenance and repair of distribution lines. Due to the limitations of computational power and endurance, it is difficult for UAVs to independently complete data processing. Combined with mobile edge computing (MEC), this paper proposes a computing offloading strategy based on multi‐agent reinforcement learning and double‐layer offloading mechanism, which can further utilize the computing power of non‐task devices and edge servers. Firstly, three‐layer system architecture, named MEC‐U‐NTDC (MEC‐UAV‐Non‐task Device Cloud), is built. Secondly, double‐layer offloading mechanism is designed to comprehensively utilize the computing power of edge servers and neighbouring non‐task devices. Finally, a multi‐agent algorithm DLMQMIX is proposed to minimize the total cost for UAV inspection. Simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithm can effectively solve the task offloading problem of UAV‐aided distribution line inspection, and compared with algorithms such as PSO, GA, and QMIX, it performs better in terms of average delay, system cost, and load balancing, achieving a smaller total system cost. Purpose: Most life cycle inventory (LCI) datasets include location-based electricity mixes. Using these LCI datasets in combination with market-based electricity accounting in life cycle assessments (LCAs) leads to double counting of electricity from specific sources, such as renewable energy. The goal of this paper is to analyze market-based accounting by replacing location-based electricity consumption with market-based residual mixes in all processes of the ecoinvent database. The python script for this replacement procedure is openly available. Materials and methods: We use the Brightway 2 software package to replace European location-based electricity consumption in all 21,238 processes of the ecoinvent database with residual electricity mixes on the corresponding voltage level. The ecoinvent database provides residual electricity mixes for all countries involved in European trade with market-based energy attribute certificates—Guarantees of Origin. We analyze the induced changes to the database both on an individual process level and on a database-wide level. The analysis focusses on the impact category climate change but is further extended to the impact categories terrestrial acidification, freshwater eutrophication, marine eutrophication, ozone depletion, and particulate matter formation. Results and discussion: For European processes, the implementation of the residual electricity mixes leads to average changes in the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) results for climate change of 1%, 10%, 20%, and 50% for 2958, 733, 387, and 107 processes, respectively. Changes are especially pronounced for Norwegian and Icelandic processes due to the large differences among their location-based and residual electricity mixes. For the other analyzed impact categories, the changes in LCIA results are particularly high for freshwater eutrophication. With the push towards more primary data in LCA and GHG accounting, the impacts of using residual electricity mixes instead of location-based electricity mixes need further research on basis of quantified figures, which we present in this paper. Conclusion: This paper presents an approach towards enabling more consistent market-based accounting throughout LCAs and thereby contributes to the avoidance of double counting. Since only European residual mixes are considered, the database of this paper leads to distortion of LCA results. Further, research is needed to address double counting beyond the European electricity sector. This includes an expansion of this research to a global level and other industrial sectors. This paper presents a novel approach for electricity consumption profiling in households through the fusion of usage data for individual smart devices. The novelty of the approach consists of leveraging the data representing the usage of individual appliances rather than using direct measurements of energy consumption. Our methodology focuses on merging signals representing the interaction of the user with the device to compute patterns in the total energy consumption per household. Subsequently, we apply data mining techniques—specifically, unsupervised clustering—to analyze the resulting time-series data representing daily energy consumption. Through this approach, we aim to identify and characterize patterns in energy usage within households, enabling insights for energy optimization strategies and resource allocation. This information can be further used in practical tasks, such as flattening energy consumption. The proposed approach offers an alternative to the direct measurement of energy usage, considering the potential for sensor failure or malfunction. Australia, like many other countries around the world, is undergoing a transition toward net zero emissions. It requires changes and development in many sectors, which not only bring benefits but also challenges. The rapid growth in renewable energy sources (RESs) is necessary to decarbonise electricity generation but negatively affects grid stability. Residential buildings also contribute to this issue through specific load profiles and the high penetration of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installations. Maintaining grid balance will be crucial for further emissions reductions. One of the potential solutions can be the replacement of conventional heating and cooling systems in houses with solutions capable of storing energy and shifting the electrical load. As presented in this paper, heat pumps and hydronic systems can significantly improve the electrical load of a typical South Australian household when they are controlled by algorithms reacting to the current grid conditions and household-generated electricity compared to conventional solutions. TRNSYS 18 simulations of air source and ground source heat pump systems with smart control based on measured electricity consumption and domestic hot water usage data showed the possibility of total energy consumption reduction, shifting the load from peak periods towards periods of excessive RES generation and increasing self-consumption of rooftop PV electricity. This paper examines how Australian residential load profiles may evolve in the short to medium term future. These profiles can be used to support simulation studies of the future Australian network within an environment that is transitioning to renewable energy and broader use of electricity as a tool for decarbonisation. The daily profiles rely heavily on the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) forecasts for future annual energy usage. The period from 2024 to 2050 will be transformational. In the residential networks, two secular trends are particularly important in expanding residential generation and electrification. New daily load profiles have been constructed using historical Australian profiles and adding additional components for solar generation, battery operation and electrification activities. The entire aggregated residential network is expected to have reverse midday power flow on any average day from 2024 onwards due to the rapid increase in electric vehicle (EV) usage. Sierra Leone is an electricity-poor country with one of the lowest electricity consumption per capita rates across sub-Saharan Africa. Yet, with ambitious targets to transform and stimulate its economy in the coming decades, energy demand forecasting becomes an integral component of successful energy planning. Through applying the MAED-D (version 2.0.0) demand software, this research study aims to generate Sierra Leone's electricity demand forecasts from 2023 to 2050. Three novel scenarios (baseline-, high-, and low-demand) are developed based on socio-economic and technical parameters. The baseline scenario considers the current electricity sector as business-as-usual; the high-demand scenario examines an ambitious development future with increased economic diversification and mechanisation, and the low-demand scenario examines more reserved future development. The modelled scenario results project an increase in electricity demand ranging from 7.32 PJ and 12.23 PJ to 5.53 PJ for the baseline-, high-, and low-demand scenarios, respectively, by 2050. This paper provides a base set of best-available data needed to produce an electricity demand model for Sierra Leone which can be used as a capacity-building tool for in-country energy planning alongside further integration into data modelling pipelines. Enhancing energy efficiency in commercial buildings is crucial for reducing energy consumption. Achieving this goal requires careful monitoring and analysis of the energy usage patterns exhibited by different devices. Nonetheless, gathering data from individual appliances in commercial buildings presents difficulties due to the large number of appliances, complex installations, and costs. This paper presents the Circuits-Level Electrical Measurements Dataset (CLEMD). The measurement was conducted at the main switchboard to a set of distribution boards instead of measuring at the individual loads. The data is gathered from an institutional setting. It consists of 42 records of vital electrical parameters including voltage, current, frequency, real power, reactive power, apparent power, power factor, and odd harmonics for electrical currents. The device deployed in the measurement were industry-grade and had a high sampling rate of 200 kHz. The measurements were done over a 40-day period, from September 16 2023 to October 25 2023. CLEMD is the first Malaysian public dataset on circuit-level electricity consumption and offers analysis opportunities in different research areas such as electricity load disaggregation at circuit level, circuit identification, load profile forecasting, and pattern recognition. Reducing the power consumption of oil production wells is one of the important directions of oil industry development in the context of transition of many fields to the late stages of operation. At the same time, there is often a need to limit hydrocarbon production, which is often accomplished by shutting down wells completely. In this paper, the authors propose an approach to improve the energy efficiency of the electric centrifugal pump unit through the use of periodic operation mode, which allows to reduce the specific power consumption of the electric centrifugal pump unit. Also, this mode can be considered as a way to regulate the well flow rate. According to the results of calculations it was obtained that the reduction of specific power consumption of the unit when operating at nominal frequency can reach 5% relative to the continuous mode of operation. An assessment was made of the effect of reducing the frequency of the supply voltage in a periodic mode on the parameters of the operation of the installation and it was found that the well flow rate increased by 1.43% with a reduction in specific power consumption by 1.64%. Demand response (DR) can provide extra scheduling flexibility for power systems. Different from industrial and residential loads, the production process of manufacturing loads includes multiple production links, and complex material flow and energy flow are closely coupled, which can be seen as a typical nondeterministic polynomial-time (NP) hard problem. In addition, there is a coupling effect between the temperature-controlled loads (TCLs) and the manufacturing loads, which has often been ignored in previous research, resulting in conservative electricity consumption planning. This paper proposes an optimal demand management for the manufacturing industry. Firstly, the power consumption characteristics of manufacturing loads are analyzed in detail. A state task network (STN) is introduced to decouple the relationship between energy and material flow in each production link. Combining STN and production equipment parameters, a general MILP model is constructed to describe the whole production process of the manufacturing industry. Then, a mathematical model of the TCLs considering a comfortable human degree is established. Fully considering the electricity consumption behavior of equipment and TCLs, the model predictive control (MPC) method is adopted to generate the optimal scheduling plan. Federated learning (FL) is a machine-learning framework that effectively addresses privacy concerns. It harnesses fragmented data from devices across the globe for model training and optimization while strictly adhering to user privacy protection and regulatory compliance. This framework holds immense potential for widespread applications in the smart-grid domain. Through FL, power companies can collaborate to train smart-grid models without revealing users' electricity consumption data, thus safeguarding their privacy. However, the data collected by clients often exhibits heterogeneity, which can lead to biases towards certain data features during the model-training process, therefore affecting the fairness and performance of the model. To tackle the fairness challenges that emerge during the federated-learning process in smart grids, this paper introduces FedCSGP, a novel federated-learning approach that incorporates client sampling and gradient projection. The main idea of FedCSGP is to categorize the causes of unfairness in federated learning into two parts: internal conflicts and external conflicts. Among them, the client-sampling strategy is used to resolve external conflicts, while the gradient-projection strategy is employed to address internal conflicts. By tackling both aspects, FederCSGP aims to enhance the fairness of the federated-learning model while ensuring the accuracy of the global model. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly improves the accuracy of poorly performing clients in smart-grid scenarios with lower communication costs, therefore enhancing the fairness of the federated-learning algorithm.
