Plane spiral orbital angular momentum (PSOAM) mode-groups (MGs) and multiple-input multiple-output non-orthogonal multiple access (MIMO-NOMA) serve as two emerging techniques for achieving high spectral efficiency (SE) in the next-generation networks. In this paper, a PSOAM MGs based multi-user MIMO-NOMA system is studied, where the base station transmits data to users by utilizing the generated PSOAM beams. For such scenario, the interference between users in different PSOAM mode groups can be avoided, which leads to a significant performance enhancement. We aim to maximize the energy efficiency (EE) of the system subject to the constraints of the total transmission power and the minimum data rate. This designed optimization problem is non-convex owing to the interference among users, and hence is quite difficult to tackle directly. To solve this issue, we develop a dual layer resource allocation algorithm where the bisection method is exploited in the outer layer to obtain the optimal EE and a resource distributed iterative algorithm is exploited in the inner layer to optimize the transmit power. Besides, an alternative resource allocation algorithm with Deep Belief Networks (DBN) is proposed to cope with the requirement for low computational complexity. Simulation results verify the theoretical findings and demonstrate the proposed algorithms on the PSOAM MGs based MIMO-NOMA system can obtain a better performance comparing to the conventional MIMO-NOMA system in terms of EE. This paper studies an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted wireless-powered communication network (WPCN), where a hybrid access point (HAP) broadcasts energy signals to multiple devices for their energy harvesting in the downlink (DL) and then the devices use the harvested energy to transmit information signals to the HAP in the uplink (UL) with the help of an IRS. In particular, we propose three types of IRS beamforming configurations, namely fully dynamic IRS beamforming (FDBF), partially dynamic IRS beamforming (PDBF), and static IRS beamforming (SBF), to strike a balance between the system performance and signaling overhead as well as implementation complexity. Moreover, we adopt a practical non-linear energy harvesting (EH) model, and leverage a power-splitting (PS) EH receiver architecture with multiple rectifiers to avoid the input radio frequency power to get stuck into the saturation regime. We aim to minimize the transmit energy consumption at the HAP by jointly optimizing the DL/UL time allocation, the HAP/devices transmit power, the PS factor, and IRS phase shifts, subject to a set of minimum throughput requirements for individual devices. To address the resulting non-convex optimization problems, a successive convex approximation (SCA) based alternating optimization algorithm is proposed. Moreover, we study the case with the ideal linear EH model and two algorithms, namely SCA-based algorithm and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) algorithm, are proposed. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed designs over various benchmark schemes and also unveil the importance of the joint design of IRS beamforming and PS rectifiers for achieving energy efficient WPCNs in practice. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and Terahertz (THz) technology are envisioned to play paramount roles in next-generation wireless communications. In this paper, we present a novel secure UAV-assisted mobile relaying system operating at THz bands for data acquisition from multiple ground user equipments (UEs) towards a destination. We assume that the UAV-mounted relay may act, besides providing relaying services, as a potential eavesdropper called the untrusted UAV-relay (UUR). To safeguard end-to-end communications, we present a secure two-phase transmission strategy with cooperative jamming. Then, we devise an optimization framework in terms of a new measure $-$ secrecy energy efficiency (SEE), defined as the ratio of achievable average secrecy rate to average system power consumption, which enables us to obtain the best possible security level while taking UUR’s inherent flight power limitation into account. For the sake of quality of service fairness amongst all the UEs, we aim to maximize the minimum SEE (MSEE) performance via the joint design of key system parameters, including UUR’s trajectory and velocity, communication scheduling, and network power allocation. Since the formulated problem is a mixed-integer nonconvex optimization and computationally intractable, we decouple it into four subproblems and propose alternative algorithms to solve it efficiently via greedy/sequential block successive convex approximation and non-linear fractional programming techniques. The heterogeneous fog radio access networks (Fog-RAN), the integration of fog computing, and traditional heterogeneous radio access networks can be implemented through the next-generation wireless communication networks. However, most of the solutions are limited to the spectrum efficiency optimization, and cross-tier interference existing in the fog access points (F-APs) could affect the network performance seriously. In this paper, the user association, resource allocation (including bandwidth and power), and caching deployment are investigated in the heterogeneous Fog-RAN to consider energy efficiency and cross-tier interference mitigation. Specifically, the user association, resource allocation, and caching strategy are formulated as a non-convex optimization problem and then transformed into a convex problem, which can be solved by a proposed algorithm based on the concept of the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Then an ADMM-based algorithm is proposed to enhance the energy efficiency of the Fog-RAN. In the past several years, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have been employed to provide enhanced coverage or relay service to mobile users in a scenario with limited or even no infrastructure since they can be deployed to almost everywhere and can be manipulated at anytime. This paper studies UAV as aerial base station (BS) enabled wireless communication system, where a UAV is dispatched to provide wireless communication service to a set of ground users with difference quality-of-experience (QoE) requirements. In real world, user requirements are randomly and unevenly distributed. In addition, UAV communication coverage and on-board energy are limited and system resources are also limited (e.g., transmission power, spectrum). In order to meet the QoE of all users with limited system resources and limited UAV energy, we jointly optimize user communication scheduling, UAV trajectory, transmit power and bandwidth allocation to maximize energy-efficiency and satisfy user QoE requirement. The formulated problem is mixes integer non-convex and non-concave so it is difficult to solve. In this paper, we solvevv the problem with two steps as follows. Firstly, we transform the objective function into a tractable form. Secondly, we divide the optimal problem into four sub-optimal problems, and then use a powerful iterative algorithm with the Dinkelbach and block coordinate descent to solve the optimal problem. That is to say, the user scheduling, UAV trajectory, transmission power and bandwidth allocation are alternately optimized in each iteration. Extensive simulation results present that our proposed method can obtain higher energy efficiency than that of baselines. Mobile edge computing (MEC) has been considered as a promising paradigm to support the growing popularity of mobile devices (MDs) with similar capabilities as cloud computing. Most existing research focuses on MEC enabled by terrestrial base stations (BSs), which is unable to work in certain scenarios, e.g., disaster rescue and field operation. Some researchers have been making efforts on studying MEC assisted by unmanned-aerial-vehicles (UAVs) and developed lots of efficient scheduling algorithms. However, MEC assisted only by UAVs has limited capability and is unsuitable for heavy-computation applications. To address the issue, this paper proposes a novel UAV-and-BS hybrid enabled MEC system, where multiple UAVs and one BS are deployed to facilitate the provisioning of MEC services either directly from UAVs or indirectly from the BS. Considering maximizing the lifetime of all MDs, the energy-efficient scheduling problem is formulated as minimizing the energy consumption of all MDs by jointly optimizing UAV trajectories, task associations, computing-and-transmitting resource allocations. The optimization problem is further decomposed into three sub-problems and solved by the proposed hybrid heuristic and learning based scheduling algorithms to reduce the complexity. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve promising performance improvements over baseline algorithms, including local-computing, random-offloading and greedy-offloading. In this paper, we consider a downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) enabled heterogeneous small cells network (HSCN), where the macro base station simultaneously communicates with multiple small cell base stations (SBSs) through wireless backhaul. In each small cell, users are grouped by NOMA bases and then served by their respective SBS. The proposed framework considers the realistic imperfect channel state information and quality of service requirements of users. The goal is to investigate an energy-efficient joint power, and bandwidth allocation scheme, which aims to maximize the energy efficiency (EE) of the small cells in downlink NOMA-HSCN constrained by the maximum transmit power and the minimum required data rate simultaneously. The optimization problem is non-convex due to the fractional objective function and non-convex constraint and thus challenging to obtain an exact solution efficiently. To this end, the joint optimization is first decomposed into two subproblems. Then, an iterative algorithm to solve the power optimization subproblem is proposed with guaranteed convergence. Furthermore, we derive a closed-form solution for the bandwidth allocation subproblem. The proliferation of smart vehicular terminals (VTs) and their resource hungry applications impose serious challenges to the processing capabilities of VTs and the delivery of vehicular services. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) offers a promising paradigm to solve this problem by offloading VT applications to proximal MEC servers, while TV white space (TVWS) bands can be used to supplement the bandwidth for computation offloading. In this paper, we consider a cognitive vehicular network that uses the TVWS band, and formulate a dual-side optimization problem, to minimize the cost of VTs and that of the MEC server at the same time. Specifically, the dual-side cost minimization is achieved by jointly optimizing the offloading decision and local CPU frequency on the VT side, and the radio resource allocation and server provisioning on the server side, while guaranteeing network stability. Based on Lyapunov optimization, we design an algorithm called DDORV to tackle the joint optimization problem, where only current system states, such as channel states and traffic arrivals, are needed. The closed-form solution to the VT-side problem is obtained easily by derivation and comparing two values. For MEC server side optimization, we first obtain server provisioning independently, and then devise a continuous relaxation and Lagrangian dual decomposition based iterative algorithm for joint radio resource and power allocation. Simulation results demonstrate that DDORV converges fast, can balance the cost-delay tradeoff flexibly, and can obtain more performance gains in cost reduction as compared with existing schemes. This paper considers a multiuser simultaneous wireless information and power transfer system with a nonlinear energy harvesting model, in which a multiantenna base station estimates the downlink channel state information (CSI) via uplink pilots. Each single-antenna user is equipped with a power splitter. Three crucial issues on resource management for this system include: 1) power-efficient improvement, 2) user-fairness guarantee, and 3) nonideal channel reciprocity effect mitigation. Potentially, a resource allocation scheme to address jointly such issues can be devised by using the framework of multiobjective optimization. However, the resulting problem might be complex to solve since the three issues hold different characteristics. Therefore, we propose a novel method to design the resource allocation scheme. In particular, the principle of our method relies on structuralizing mathematically the issues into a cross-layer multilevel optimization problem. On this basis, we then devise solving algorithms and closed-form solutions. Moreover, to instantly adapt the CSI changes in practice while reducing computational burdens, we propose a closed-form suboptimal solution to tackle the problem. Finally, we provide numerical results to show the achievable performance gains using the optimal and suboptimal solutions, and then validate the proposed resource allocation scheme. In this paper, we consider the resource-allocation problem for energy efficiency (EE)–spectral efficiency (SE) tradeoff. Unlike traditional research that uses the EE as an objective function and imposes constraints either on the SE or on the achievable rate, we propound a multiobjective optimization approach that can flexibly switch between the EE and SE functions or change the priority level of each function using a tradeoff parameter. Our dynamic approach is more tractable than the conventional approaches and more convenient to realistic communication applications and scenarios. We prove that the multiobjective optimization of the EE and SE is equivalent to a simple problem that maximizes the achievable rate/SE and minimizes the total power consumption. Then, we apply the generalized framework of the resource allocation for the EE–SE tradeoff to optimally allocate the subcarriers' power for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) with imperfect channel estimation. Finally, we use numerical results to discuss the choice of the tradeoff parameter and study the effect of the estimation error, transmission power budget, and channel-to-noise ratio on the multiobjective optimization. Energy harvesting (EH) from background radio-frequency signals has recently started to be considered as a promising means of mitigating energy deficiencies in wireless sensors that have limited battery power. In this paper, to deal with the problem of energy shortage, we consider EH and energy efficiency, which is the ratio of the amount of data transferred to the energy dissipated within the system, at the same time. We formulate a nonconvex optimization problem for determining the training interval for channel estimation, user scheduling, and power allocation strategies to maximize the energy efficiency and transform the problem into a tractable convex problem. Based on the convexity of the problem, we propose an energy-efficient resource allocation strategy using an iterative method and provide the convergence of the proposed algorithm based on nonlinear fractional programming. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm operates in an energy-efficient way, thereby achieving maximum energy efficiency while ensuring the data rate and harvested energy requirements.
