The multivariate autoregressive (MVAR) model is widely used in describing the dynamics of nonlinear systems, in which the estimates of model parameters and underlying states can be achieved by dual extended Kalman filter (DEKF). However, when the measurements are corrupted by complicated non-Gaussian noises, the DEKF based on the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) criterion may provide biased estimates. In the present article, we develop a novel dual Kalman-type filter, referred to as DEKF under minimum error entropy (MEE) with fiducial points (MEEFs-DEKF) to deal with the non-Gaussian noises. First, the equivalent state-space model and parameter-space model are presented based on the MVAR model. Then, an optimality criterion based on MEE with fiducial points (MEEFs) is applied in the batch-mode regression equation to improve the robustness. Finally, a fixed-point iteration algorithm gives the posterior estimates of state and parameter. Simulation results confirm that the proposed MEEF-DEKF can achieve excellent performance in various noises with different distributions, especially in heavy-tailed and multimodal noises. In this article, a novel normal-skew mixture (NSM) distribution is presented to model the normal and/or heavy-tailed and/or skew nonstationary distributed noises. The NSM distribution can be formulated as a hierarchically Gaussian presentation by leveraging a Bernoulli distributed random variable. Based on this, a novel robust Kalman filtering framework can be developed utilizing the variational Bayesian method, where the one-step prediction and measurement-likelihood densities are modeled as NSM distributions. For implementation, several exemplary robust Kalman filters (KFs) are derived based on some specific cases of NSM distribution. The relationships between some existing robust KFs and the presented framework are also revealed. As a powerful tool for real-time battery management, the extended Kalman filter (EKF) can achieve an online estimation for state of charge (SOC). The EKF, however, may yield biased estimates since the measured system suffers from the abnormal operation conditions, i.e., sensor faults, sensor bias and sensor noise. Thus, this paper proposes a robust extended Kalman filter based on maximum multi-kernel correntropy (MMKC-EKF) for SOC estimate when the system is subjected to complex non-Gaussian disturbances. To derive MMKC-EKF, a batch-mode regression is formulated by integrating the uncertainties of process and measurement, which is solved by using maximum multi-kernel correntropy (MMKC) criterion to suppress the influences of abnormal conditions. An effective optimization method is introduced to determine the free parameters of MMKC, and a fixed-point iteration method gives the state estimation. Then, the posterior error covariance matrix is updated with the help of total influence function, which contributes to the robustness improvement. In addition, a novel filtering scheme is presented for reducing computational complexity, which is beneficial for solving battery pack state estimation in practice. This paper proposes a state estimation approach 'robust strong tracking unscented Kalman filter with unknown inputs' that can be applied to non‐linear systems with unknown inputs. Specifically, the non‐linear state and measurement equations are linearised by statistical linearisation. Then, the estimation equation of the unknown input is derived based on the weighted least squares method. The multiple suboptimal fading factor is introduced into a priori error covariance matrix to improve the tracking ability for the inaccuracy of the system model and the abrupt change of state variables caused by unknown inputs. Finally, based on the unbiased minimum variance estimation, the unbiased state estimation and the error covariance matrix are derived. Singular value decomposition is performed on the error covariance matrix to improve the stability of the algorithm. Simulated results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. To date, most linear and nonlinear Kalman filters (KFs) have been developed under the Gaussian assumption and the well-known minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. In order to improve the robustness with respect to impulsive (or heavy-tailed) non-Gaussian noises, the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) has recently been used to replace the MMSE criterion in developing several robust Kalman-type filters. To deal with more complicated non-Gaussian noises such as noises from multimodal distributions, in this article, we develop a new Kalman-type filter, called minimum error entropy KF (MEE-KF), by using the minimum error entropy (MEE) criterion instead of the MMSE or MCC. Similar to the MCC-based KFs, the proposed filter is also an online algorithm with the recursive process, in which the propagation equations are used to give prior estimates of the state and covariance matrix, and a fixed-point algorithm is used to update the posterior estimates. In addition, the MEE extended KF (MEE-EKF) is also developed for performance improvement in the nonlinear situations. The extended Kalman filter (EKF) is a method extensively applied in many areas, particularly, in nonlinear target tracking. The optimization criterion commonly used in EKF is the celebrated minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion, which exhibits excellent performance under Gaussian noise assumption. However, its performance may degrade dramatically when the noises are heavy tailed. To cope with this problem, this paper proposes two new nonlinear filters, namely the linear regression maximum correntropy EKF (LRMCEKF) and nonlinear regression maximum correntropy EKF (NRMCEKF), by applying the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) rather than the MMSE criterion to EKF. In both filters, a regression model is formulated, and a fixed-point iterative algorithm is utilized to obtain the posterior estimates. The unscented Kalman filter (UKF) provides a powerful tool for power system forecasting-aided state estimation (FASE). However, when the power systems are affected by the abnormal operating situations, i.e., the non-Gaussian communication noises, sudden loads or state changes, and instrument failures, the original UKF based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion may suffer from performance degradation. In contrast to the MMSE criterion, the minimum error entropy (MEE) exhibits the robustness with respect to complex non-Gaussian disturbances. In this article, we develop a new unscented Kalman-type filter based on the MEE criterion, termed MEE-UKF. To derive the MEE-UKF, a statistical linearization approach is adopted in the augmented model such that the state and measurement errors are combined in the MEE cost function simultaneously. Then, a fixed-point iteration algorithm is used to recursively update the posterior estimates and covariance matrix. Apart from the impulsive noises, the MEE-UKF can deal with complex multimodal distribution noises in both process and measurement. The unscented transformation (UT) is an efficient method to solve the state estimation problem for a non-linear dynamic system, utilising a derivative-free higher-order approximation by approximating a Gaussian distribution rather than approximating a non-linear function. Applying the UT to a Kalman filter type estimator leads to the well-known unscented Kalman filter (UKF). Although the UKF works very well in Gaussian noises, its performance may deteriorate significantly when the noises are non-Gaussian, especially when the system is disturbed by some heavy-tailed impulsive noises. To improve the robustness of the UKF against impulsive noises, a new filter for non-linear systems is proposed in this work, namely the maximum correntropy unscented filter (MCUF). In MCUF, the UT is applied to obtain the prior estimates of the state and covariance matrix, and a robust statistical linearisation regression based on the maximum correntropy criterion is then used to obtain the posterior estimates of the state and covariance matrix. Traditional Kalman filter (KF) is derived under the well-known minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion, which is optimal under Gaussian assumption. However, when the signals are non-Gaussian, especially when the system is disturbed by some heavy-tailed impulsive noises, the performance of KF will deteriorate seriously. To improve the robustness of KF against impulsive noises, we propose in this work a new Kalman filter, called the maximum correntropy Kalman filter (MCKF), which adopts the robust maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) as the optimality criterion, instead of using the MMSE. Similar to the traditional KF, the state mean vector and covariance matrix propagation equations are used to give prior estimations of the state and covariance matrix in MCKF. A novel fixed-point algorithm is then used to update the posterior estimations. A sufficient condition that guarantees the convergence of the fixed-point algorithm is also given. Abstract: In this paper, a novel extended kernel recursive least squares algorithm is proposed combining the kernel recursive least squares algorithm and the Kalman filter or its extensions to estimate or predict signals. Unlike the extended kernel recursive least squares (Ex-KRLS) algorithm proposed by Liu, the state model of our algorithm is still constructed in the original state space and the hidden state is estimated using the Kalman filter. The measurement model used in hidden state estimation is learned by the kernel recursive least squares algorithm (KRLS) in reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS). The novel algorithm has more flexible state and noise models. We apply this algorithm to vehicle tracking and the nonlinear Rayleigh fading channel tracking, and compare the tracking performances with other existing algorithms. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Recently, the Kalman filter algorithm based on the minimum error entropy criterion has been presented to outperform the conventional Kalman filter in the case of impulsive noise. In practice, it may be unstable in numerical calculation. This paper proposes a robust algorithm to solve the problem of instability in numerical calculation. The convergence and stability of the algorithm are verified by the performance analysis and simulations. In the mean square behavior analysis, we propose a method to estimate the steady-state errors. The convergence of nonlinear Kalman filters has conventionally been analyzed in terms of the estimation error. In this paper, we present a new method for investigating the convergence performance of a class of nonlinear Kalman filters based on deterministic sampling. The systems considered here are described by nonlinear state equations with linear measurements. For this type of systems, our proposed convergence analysis is performed using “innovation”, which is defined as the error between the measurement and its prediction. Specifically, we obtain a linear relationship between the innovation and the estimation error, and derive a set of sufficient conditions that ensures the convergence of nonlinear Kalman filters. Compared with the conventional convergence analysis method based on the estimation error, the proposed innovation-based method can obtain sufficient conditions for convergence more directly and readily. The Unscented Kalman filter (UKF) based on maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) is robust to heavy-tailed non-Gaussian noise. However, the approximate linear measurement equation obtained by statistical linearization technique may be not accurate enough since it only uses prior information. In this paper, a robust stable iterative maximum correntropy criterion UKF (RS-IMCC-UKF) is proposed by using nonlinear measurement function directly and numerical stability methods. Different from the existing UKF algorithms, we only need to perform one-time unscented transformation in each filtering cycle, reducing the execution time of algorithm. Then a nonlinear enhancement model is constructed to handle predictions and observations simultaneously, which will be included in the cost function of robust MCC. In the process of iterative solution, thanks to the latest iteration values which are used to update the measurement information, RS-IMCC-UKF has more accurate results compared with traditional filters. In order to avoid non-positive definite characteristic in covariance matrix and the inverse operation in ill-conditioned matrix, the hyperbolic QR decomposition and Moore–Penrose pseudo-inversion are introduced to improve the numerical stability of the algorithm. Recently, the kernel adaptive filtering algorithm with the generalized maximum correntropy criterion (GMCC) has gained attention due to its excellent nonlinear system modeling ability and robustness to non-Gaussian noise. However, since the default center of the GMCC is located at zero, it hampers its performance in the non-zero mean noise environment. To overcome the problem, this paper proposes a kernel adaptive filtering algorithm based on the GMCC with variable center (GMCC-VC) called generalized kernel maximum correntropy criterion with variable center (GKMCC-VC). In addition, the online vector quantization (VQ) method is introduced to the GKMCC-VC algorithm for suppressing the increasing network size. The probability of divergence, the mean-square steady-state behavior, and the convergence condition of the GKMCC-VC algorithm are also obtained under some assumptions. The potential relationship between the GMCC-VC and the generalized minimum error entropy (GMEE) criteria is discussed in the paper. Instead of MSE criterion, a novel robust EKRSL via the generalized Gaussian density is defined in KRSL framework, and we further develop a new robust UKF using the EnKRSL(called EKRSL-UKF). To obtain the recursive form of EKRSL-UKF, the statistical linear regression model is used and the fixed-point iteration is further utilized to iteratively get the optimal state estimate. An error constrained method is also introduced to restrict the error to address the numerical instability problem caused by large outliers. Kalman filters (KFs) are widely used for state-of-charge (SOC) estimation of Li-ion batteries due to their excellent dynamic tracking capability. Especially the cubature KF (CKF), with the computational efficiency and nonlinear processing ability, is an outstanding candidate for SOC estimation. However, the actual working conditions are complex and changeable, and the measurement data is usually accompanied by non-Gaussian noise (outliers). Therefore, the performance of the original CKF with minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion may be degraded seriously in these cases. In order to enhance the robustness of CKF, the MMSE in the CKF framework is substituted by the generalized maximum correntropy criterion (GMCC), and thus a robust CKF with GMCC (GMCC-CKF) is developed by fixed point iteration approach in this work. Furthermore, a SOC estimation model via the GMCC-CKF is proposed to improve estimation accuracy under non-Gaussian noise environments. The simulation results show that, compared with the traditional KFs, the proposed GMCC-CKF can accurately estimate the SOC of lithium batteries under different temperatures and operating conditions considering non-Gaussian noise interference.
