The geodynamic processes responsible for the Late Cretaceous magmatic flare-up in the southern Lhasa Terrane, Tibetan Plateau, have been a matter of debate. In this study, we have reported on newly identified Late Cretaceous gabbronorites in the Dajiacuo Area of the southwestern Lhasa Terrane. These rocks show ophitic textures comprising plagioclase, orthopyroxene, and clinopyroxene, while hydrous minerals, such as amphibole and biotite, are not observed. They display geochemical affinities for high-Mg andesites (HMAs) given their SiO 2 (53.5–59.7 wt. %), Mg# (56.8–59.9), and Cr (up to 178 ppm). Combined with their high Th/Yb and low Ba/La ratios and similar Sr–Nd–Hf isotopes to those of the Neo-Tethyan sediments, it is likely that the Dajiacuo gabbronorites were formed by the interaction between sediment-derived melts and the mantle. The Dajiacuo gabbronorites have similar Zr/Hf ratios to the Neo-Tethyan sediments and present no negative Zr–Hf anomalies. This indicates that the zircons in the subducted sediments may have been fully destroyed. This requires specific dynamic conditions to provide a hot subduction geothermal gradient. This is consistent with the high-temperature affinity of the parent magma inferred from Ti-in-zircon thermometry and the presence of orthopyroxene. Based on this, coupled with the synthesis of existing tectonomagmatic data for the southern Tibetan Plateau, we propose that the Late Cretaceous magmatic flare-up in the southern Lhasa Terrane was likely triggered by the roll-back of the northwards subducted Neo-Tethyan lithosphere. Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key factor to further our understanding of climate change processes, especially on the Tibetan Plateau, which is sensitive to global change. Herein, the spatial patterns of ET are examined, and the effects of environmental factors on ET at different scales are explored from the years 2000 to 2012. The results indicated that a steady trend in ET was detected over the past decade. Meanwhile, the spatial distribution shows an increase of ET from the northwest to the southeast, and the rate of change in ET is lower in the middle part of the Tibetan Plateau. Besides, the positive effect of radiation on ET existed mainly in the southwest. Based on the environment gradient transects, the ET had positive correlations with temperature (R>0.85, p<0.0001), precipitation (R > 0.89, p < 0.0001), and NDVI (R > 0.75, p < 0.0001), but a negative correlation between ET and radiation (R = 0.76, p < 0.0001) was observed. We also found that the relationships between environmental factors and ET differed in the different grassland ecosystems, which indicated that vegetation type is one factor that can affect ET. Soil texture is one of the important physical and natural properties of soil. Much of the current research focuses on soil texture monitoring using non-imaging geophysical spectrometers. However there are fewer studies utilizing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hyperspectral data for soil texture monitoring. UAV mounted hyperspectral cameras can be used for quickly and accurately obtaining high-resolution spatial information of soil texture. A foundation has been laid for the realization of rapid soil texture surveys using unmanned airborne hyperspectral data without field sampling. This study selected three typical farmland areas in Huangshui Basin of Qinghai as the study area, and a total of 296 soil samples were collected. Data calibration of UAV spectra using laboratory spectra and field in situ spectra to explore the feasibility of applying laboratory soil texture models directly to field conditions. This results show that UAV hyperspectral imagery combined with machine learning can obtain a set of ideal processing methods. The pre-processing of the spectral data can obtain high accuracy of soil texture estimation and good mapping effect. The results of this study can provide effective technical support and decision-making assistance for future agricultural land planning on the Tibetan Plateau. The main innovation of this study is to establish a set of processing procedures and methods applicable to UAV hyperspectral imagery to provide data reference for monitoring soil texture in agricultural fields on the Tibetan Plateau. Abstract Few studies have been conducted on the activity of the Mengzi fault system, which is located to the southeast of the Sichuan-Yunnan block. The Mengzi fault is distributed along the eastern margin of the Mengzi basin. However, little is known about the location, length, and activity of the fault or the occurrence of paleo-earthquakes during the late Quaternary. This paper studies the geometric distribution and activity of the fault via remote sensing imagery interpretation, fault outcrops in the area, faulted landforms and chronological analyses. The results show that the Mengzi fault extends from Nandong (Kaiyuan basin) in the north through the eastern margin of the Mengzi basin to Pingbian in the southeast, eventually intersecting with the Honghe fault. The Mengzi fault is approximately 250 km long and is characterized as a reverse strike-slip fault. We survey and calculate the offset gullies and terraces dislocated by the fault; combined with sample dating, we calculate the horizontal slip rate of the fault since 30 ka BP to be 0.91–1.56 mm/a. Three paleo-events since 30–40 ka BP are observed with a 10-ka major earthquake recurrence period. We analyze the relationships among the Mengzi fault, southern Xiaojiang fault, and Qujiang-Jianshui fault and note a slip rate loss of ≥8 mm/a from the southern Xiaojiang fault that was absorbed by reverse dextral strike-slip faulting and lateral shortening of the Qujiang-Jianshui fault and the Mengzi fault. The Mengzi fault plays an important role in the adjustment of the large slip rate reduction along the southern Xiaojiang fault. Moreover, the Mengzi fault has a similar tectonic position to the seismogenic faults of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, 2013 Lushan earthquake and 2014 Ludian earthquake, and the Mengzi fault and southern Xiaojiang fault both accumulate the energy generated by the southeastward movement of the Sichuan-Yunnan block. Studies on the Mengzi fault are helpful for renewing our understanding of the tectonic patterns of the southeastern Sichuan-Yunnan block and delimiting the boundary of the southeastern block margin. Tibetan pigs live between 2500 and 4300 m above sea level on the Tibetan Plateau, and are better adapted to hypoxia than lowland pigs. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in a wide variety of cellular processes; however, their regulatory role in hypoxia adaptation remains unclear. In this study, miRNA-seq was used to identify differentially expressed miRNAs (DE miRNAs) in the cardiac muscle of Tibetan and Yorkshire pigs, which were both raised in high elevation environments. We obtained 108 M clean reads and 372 unique miRNAs, which included 210 known porcine miRNAs, 136 conserved in other mammals, and 26 novel pre-miRNAs. In addition, 20 DE miRNAs, including 10 up-regulated and 10 down-regulated miRNAs, were also found after comparison between Tibetan and Yorkshire pigs. We predicted miRNA targets based on differential expression and abundance in the two populations. Furthermore, the results of a Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis suggested that DE miRNAs in Tibetan and Yorkshire pigs are involved in hypoxia-related signaling pathways such as the mitogen-activated protein kinase, which is the mechanistic target of rapamycin, and the vascular endothelial growth factor, as well as cancer-related signaling pathways. Five DE miRNAs were randomly selected to validate the results of miRNA-seq using real-time polymerase chain reaction, and the results corresponded to those from the miRNA-seq, confirming that deep-sequencing methods are feasible and efficient. In our study, we identified various previously unknown hypoxia-related miRNAs in pigs, and the data obtained suggest that hypoxia-related miRNA expression patterns are significantly altered in the Tibetan pig compared to other species. Background: Tibetan pigs, which inhabit the Tibetan Plateau, exhibit distinct phenotypic and physiological characteristics from those of lowland pigs and have adapted well to the extreme conditions at high altitude. However, the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of hypoxic adaptation in animals remain unclear. Methods: Whole-genome DNA methylation data were generated for heart tissues of Tibetan pigs grown in the highland (TH, n = 4) and lowland (TL, n = 4), as well as Yorkshire pigs grown in the highland (YH, n = 4) and lowland (YL, n = 4), using methylated DNA immunoprecipitation sequencing. Results: We obtained 480 million reads and detected 280679, 287224, 259066, and 332078 methylation enrichment peaks in TH, YH, TL, and YL, respectively. Pairwise TH vs. YH, TL vs. YL, TH vs. TL, and YH vs. YL comparisons revealed 6829, 11997, 2828, and 1286 differentially methylated regions (DMRs), respectively. These DMRs contained 384, 619, 192, and 92 differentially methylated genes (DMGs), respectively. DMGs that were enriched in the hypoxia-inducible factor 1 signaling pathway and pathways involved in cancer and hypoxia-related processes were considered to be important candidate genes for high-altitude adaptation in Tibetan pigs.
