Continuing our previous work on gesture tracking in the environment of arthroplasty, and because of the complexity and potential complications, there is a need for a new approach for any application of hand gestures in a continuous digital health ecosystem, that could be easily monitored and executed. With this approach, we tend to capture hand gestures in some predefined space. The first step is to find a mathematical model that will fit some well-known kernel shapes. If a motion is not derived from the kernel shapes, the full search for motion vectors with pairing and computation of vectors could be performance exhaustive, so we propose the combination of motion based on motion prediction on kernel shapes. To predict motion parameters from specific features in specific medical data-acquiring models, we must know the visualization requirements of the continuous digital health system that will synthesize the motion. It is also necessary to relate these parameters to the actions that will enable data compression in storing all the motions in hand gestures of medical specialists controlling and manipulating medical data. This motion prediction is focusing on a specific object visualization framework that we use as an input for a gesture- based human-machine interface applicable to any continuous digital health system, which we described in this paper.

The financial crisis of 2007–08 and the resulting Great Recession, permanently changed the global business. Austerity measures generated additional long-term consequences. For example, major political changes, such as Brexit, as well as behavioral changes such as consumers becoming permanently more frugal, were motivated by and were the direct consequence of the Great Recession. A new global health threat, the pandemic of COVID-19, is also hugely impacting the world economy and every individual company. Consumer preferences changed abruptly, causing some businesses to close immediately, others growing unexpectedly, while most of them heavily relied on digitization, implementation of digital transformation, and raising of digital platforms literacy. This impacted the higher education process towards raising the digital readiness and need for the creation of new skills and job creations, like Digital leadership. The new mission is to develop a framework for the skillset in digital project development and management that will support the growth and expansion of digital capabilities in business. In this paper, we propose a new paradigm for enabling digital transformation through the educational process with a specific objective in shaping overall digital readiness for different business structures.

In the environment of arthroplasty operations made in orthopedic hospitals, it’s very important that patients don’t have significant leg length discrepancy (LLD), which is usually mentioned as an LLD of more than 1 cm (according to some authors even more than 5 mm is significant), so it’s important to try to avoid it because significant LLD could be a reason of other complication [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10] and [11]. Unfortunately, according to the literature, LLD-like complications of total hip arthroplasty are not so rare and it counts between 1% and 32% of all total hip arthroplasty [1], [12] and [13]. We strongly believe that the solution proposed by this paper could reduce these problems. Because of the complexity and potential complications, there is a need for a new approach that could be easily monitored and executed. With this approach, we will avoid the fixed markers, which could lead to various complications and prolong the operation. Our solution will make it possible to conduct millimeter precision accuracy controlled by gestures while obtaining several degrees of freedom for the surgeon. In addition, we will develop instruments that could stay outside the patient, creating minimum invasive surgery, which is not part of the current solutions

Since public institutions, including Universities, have been obliged to use a central electronic identity system, two more infrastructure components arose as crucial to being implemented. Client Application Interface to central government portal where the content is integrated under the common visual and editorial standards, and a Personal User Box System to enable personalization of the access to the electronic services. With those two infrastructural pillars, we integrated the Campus Card Solution as one of the public services for the students that are fully interoperable part of the e-citizen project aiming for students’ interoperability between the university campuses enabling academic mobility within Europe, while obtaining national specifics. This paper aims to develop and propose a standard for a secure and interoperable campus card system that will overcome the current barriers to the expansion of the market and support academic mobility within Europe. The identification card enables a more efficient electronic exchange of data amongst universities. act as a student’s “electronic key” and enables access to a student’s records on secure databases.

Recommendation systems are present in many daily activities. They are trying to predict user preferences. Due to the growth of social networks, there is a vast amount of data that is constantly updated which makes recommendation systems more personalized and efficient. This study aims to apply natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning techniques to obtain a recommendation. NLP is used to analyze the text (i.e. hashtags) from social networks to determine similarity between different points of interest (POI). A pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to classify a set of images obtained from social networks to determine which POI is visited by which personality type. The personality type is determined using the Five-Factor (that is, Big Five) model. The Big Five traits are firstly converted into ten personality class labels (High Openness, Low Openness, High Conscientiousness, Low Conscientiousness, High Extraversion, Low Extraversion, High Agreeableness, Low Agreeableness, High Neuroticism, Low Neuroticism) for the classification network. We manually labeled more than 2, 000 images and used a pre- trained CNN in a transfer learning manner to automatically extract features from images and classify them. We demonstrated that personality traits can be extracted from posted images with an accuracy of 75%. Also, we showed that those traits can be aggregated for a given set of pictures, such that a representation of a destination can be determined.

In recent decades, the overpopulation on our planet has had an impact on environmental change. Addressing and understanding such changes in a reliable manner requires contemporary data-science knowledge and methodologies since the amount of information available online has been increasing at an exponential rate. Additionally, to draw meaningful conclusions and predict certain events in terms of environmental changes, one must be familiar with existing natural processes. Thus, combining data science with knowledge about global conditions in the world and how they impact Earth’s biosphere, would highly benefit the understanding of possible consequences in the environment. Since our planet is a complex, dynamic system that is likely to change, one must be knowledgeable about the global climate system as a whole. As well, one must understand its processes and interactions with the environment to be able to understand and work on preventing the potential inevitable drastic circumstances for living. This paper addresses the issue of environmental changes and presents a solution in the form of academic education, which is currently in progress, and also related to the COVID-19 issues. As shown in the results section, this type of education aims to teach students about the basics of data science and how to interpret and visualize information related to current environmental changes.

Digital platforms have significantly changed the face of education. This is true for all spheres: online learning, offline learning, and blended learning. Digital platforms have also accelerated business developers and success of SMEs, where they are now in the position to gain the extra market, customer relations channels and to build their different additional value proposition for the customers. However, a lot of business owners are still afraid of the possibilities and outcomes that digital platforms could generate because they are missing digital literacy about these platforms and the changes in their business models the platforms are generating. Findings of the survey we conducted at our institute reveal that many students believe that digital platform literacy should become a priority in modern curricula. In this paper, we propose and discuss comprehensive education from all of the aspects of digital platform education – the psychology aspect, managerial aspect, technical aspect, digital pedagogical aspect, and financial aspect. With this in mind, we are able to design some of the future jobs like Digital Product Managers and Internal Digital Trainers for SMEs to boost the competitiveness of digital products and SMEs where they are developed, but also to educate current business owners who would need help in adopting the digital concepts and adapting to business platforms. Digital transformation requires a major consolidation of existing systems and applications invoking retire/replace strategies and very demanding complex integration based on specific digital skills ; acquiring the knowledge and experience needed here is the focus of our proposal and we are boosting it through our regional business laboratory that is simulating and monitoring the artificially created effect of digitally encouraged leadership and entrepreneurial characteristics of leadership with the best praxis. In this paper we will describe how the knowledge, technical and pedagogical skills of HEI (Higher Education Institution) lecturers could be improved ; how transversal, generic, and subject-specific skills of learners are enhanced. The economic consequences of COVID19 are huge and there is an existential need for resurrecting the entrepreneurial spirit of HEI graduates with the inclusion of digital platform education as a key competence.

We will take on a journey through the most interesting features of the Java programming language in the last years, as well as the most prospective new projects and features that already are or will be a part of the future of Java. To name a few, we will discuss many contemporary projects such as Valhalla, Panama, Graal, Loom, and Metropolis, as well as new features related to Switch Expressions, Text Blocks, Pattern Matching, NullPointerExceptions, Records, Foreign Function and Memory API, Vector API, and Sealed Classes. We will also address the current state of software development related to Java and similar technologies, presenting results from various developer surveys, with additional focus on our part of the world and Croatia. We will also provide recommendations coming from HUJAK as a local Java community and how to respond to current software development challenges, and discuss the future of our software development in the context of remote work, education, and employment.

In this paper, we propose and analyze the novel approach for contactless surgery. The base of contactless surgery is the system for motion tracking. For motion tracking, we use a complex stereo vision depth camera system. Once having the patient data, by using the VR techniques and depth tracking cameras, it is possible to analyze and segment the region of interest in pre-operative preparation. Using a depth tracking camera enables an operation to be simulated, and the outcome is viewed and analyzed before the patient undergoes surgery in the same environment as in the real surgery. This enables medical specialists to optimize their surgical approaches. We think specific VR/AR technologies and approaches should be incorporated, such as analyzing 3D workflow and 3D virtual scene so medical specialists would be able to make the most of the benefits during the surgery. A VR-based application is useful due to avoiding any dangers for the patients. Training applications usually have an elevation part for any step of training. However, the main challenge is to produce a step with adequate fidelity to be simulated like what is performing on the patients. The other ability of training and education simulators is preparing a situation for research surgeons to simply practice what has been suggested by other colleagues and even reading from websites.

Nowadays, there are many new approaches and techniques in telemedicine and surgery with different kinds of innovations and a growing need for contactless control of surgery parameters. Our proposal is aiming to resolve the problem of standard surgical parameters with gesture- controlled surgical interventions. We designed a contactless interface as a plug-in application for the DICOM viewer platform using a hardware sensor device controller that supports hand/finger motion as input, with no hand contact, touching, or voice navigation. Our proposed approach enables surgeons to get complete and aware orientation in the operative field (which currently isn’t the case and where the problem lies), where ‘overlapping’ the real and virtual anatomic models is inevitable. Human mind and understanding of this new surgery work by creating entirely new models of human behavior and understanding spatial relationships, along with devising assessment that will provide an insight into our human nature. That’s why the essential part of the solution is to build the adequate hand and gesture module for motion which we will describe in this paper.

This paper presents a case of collaboration between the International Business (IB) program and Web and Mobile Computing (WMC) program students, facilitated and managed by their respective instructors. In order to improve student user experience and provide them with a learning-by-doing opportunity, development of web- based Internet marketing simulation application has been initiated at our University. While WMC students are responsible for coding and application development, IB students will act as clients, but also have a partial role in the simulation’s business logic development. Collaboration with IB students will provide WMC students with valuable feedback that will be taken into account in the refinement stage. With the potential to replace available commercial Internet marketing simulations due to its high level of customization and adaptation to specific market conditions, the student developed Internet marketing simulation will also be offered to other international University campuses for further development and adaptation.

In HUJAK's community talk, we will present the current state of software development related to the Java ecosystem in Croatia, our part of Europe, and worldwide. We will discuss the latest trends in software development and what does it mean in our rapidly evolving world full of new technologies based on IoT, ML, AI, VR, Robotics and Blockchain, focusing also on our country and the region. We will also discuss the major events in the world of Java that happened in the last few years since Java 8 was widely adopted and Java 11 was released. We will see what Java 11 and Java 13 (and 12) brought us and what developers are mostly using (or not using) and can benefit from. We will also take a look at what is ahead of us in Java 14 and beyond, including new features from projects Amber, Valhalla, Loom, Panama, Skara, and Metropolis. We are going to take a typical developer’s point of view on software development challenges in this part of Europe, and we will discuss the future of our software developers from the perspective of how to become one (current educational offers and practice) and how to get a good job (local employers and the job market as well as certificates).

The Senior Development Project as a capstone research project is a new level of distance and collaborative education that enables students to form different cultures and time zones to work together on real projects in a controlled, academic setting, but in a manner that mirrors business and industry projects to a very significant degree. Three instructors are delivering this course jointly on three continents. Students form joint teams of 6 – 7 team members that are not just international, but also multidisciplinary – Web and Mobile Computing (WMC) students work together with Computing and Information Technologies (CIT) and also, more recently, Human-Centered Computing (HCC) students. Generally, CIT students are responsible for system design and infrastructure development, WMC students for software development, and HCC students for user experience. Students work on projects that are industry-based, with sponsors located worldwide. This creates a real need for the students to deal with the many issues of distributed teams, project coordination, and customers. Each year students work on different projects and over the last three years we offered multiple projects randomly divided on teams – each team works on a single project, but about four teams on average work on any particular project, competing with each other. Particularly in the early stages of the project, this mimics the typical situation of multiple vendors bidding on a single project. The best team projects are implemented at sponsor sites at the end of the two-semester Capstone research project course, giving the students honors and reference for further project work needed in the industry.

Conducting a single course across international boundaries impacts both the students and the instructors. Interestingly, many of the impacts are the same. In essence, while the international team of students is working on their project, the the international team of instructors is working on their own project—the course itself. In our case, we deliver a joint course for more than 100 students spread across three international campuses on three different continents with three different business cultures. The main course goal is to prepare students for real IT projects that are based on distributed software development, covering all project phases: short definition of project task, gathering the data and creating the requirements list, dividing the team roles, creating the project plan along with timeline and budget-line, developing, testing and deploying the final the project, documenting the project and proposing plans for maintenance and further support. At the end of the course students need to peer-review their team members ; these evaluations are a significant part of the students’ final grades. Our past experience showed that as a whole, students were very satisfied with the experience and knowledge they gained during our Capstone course. This was particularly evident with anecdotal comments by alumni

Objectives: This study presents the use of our original contactless interface as a plug-in application for OsiriX-DICOM-viewer platform using a hardware sensor devicecontroller that supports hand/finger motions as input, with no hand contact, touching, or voice navigation. It would be possible to modify standard surgical parameters in the fly gesture-controlled incisionless surgical interventions. Methods: The accuracy of computer-generated models was analyzed according to T. Galeta/2017. Our original special plug-in- application provided different types of gestures for three-dimensional- virtual reality navigation. Our hardware sensor device controlling the system without touching any other device served as an interface for camera positioning in three- dimensional virtual endoscopy-views. The impression of panoramic three-dimensional volume rendering-viewing was given by pivoting the camera around a focus fixed on the object. Results: This novel technique enables surgeons to get complete and aware orientation in the operative field, where ‘overlapping’ of the real and virtual anatomic models is inevitable. Our human mind and understanding of this new surgery work by creating completely new models of human behavior and understanding spatial relationships, along with devising assessment that will provide an insight into our human nature. Any model and/or virtual model of the surgical field is defined as it actually exists in its natural surroundings. Conclusion: We offer an alternative to closed software systems for visual tracking, with an initiative for developing the software framework that will interface with depth cameras, with a set of standardized methods for medical applications such as hand gestures and tracking, face recognition, navigation, etc. This software should be an open source, operation system agnostic, approved for medical use and independent of hardware. Comparison with previous doctrine in human medicine clearly indicates that both preoperative/intraoperative manipulation with three-dimensional-volume rendering slices of the human anatomy per viam touchless surgical navigation system with simulation of virtual activities has become reality in the operation room.

By the definition, blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger used to record immutable transactions in a distributed way across many computers, by using consensus algorithms and smart contracts. Today, it seems that everyone is talking about the blockchain, but mostly because of cryptocurrencies and ICOs. However, there is much more than rise and fall of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and more than 1500 others. In the last few years, we are witnessing a whole new world of private and public blockchain business implementations for various domains and purposes, including financial, government, insurance, healthcare, IoT, and many other services, that we don't know that much about. On the other hand, there is a whole new set of development tools and techniques that we have to be aware of if we want to participate in that world. In this session, we are going to explain some of those, mostly related to Java and similar technologies. You can hear more about different consensus algorithms, smart contracts, dapps, and implementation tricks, but also how to start dealing with the most common libraries and frameworks like Web3J, HyperLedger Fabric, Solidity, BitcoinJ, and others.

In the modern "World of Java" there was a lot of interesting things going on in the last year, and many things are yet to come. A bit more than a year ago we got a long-awaited Java 9 with Jigsaw modularization and many other new features. This spring we "moved Java forward faster" and switched to Java 10 with more than 100 new features, following a new release model and versioning scheme. Only three weeks ago we got a brand-new Java 11 with more than a dozen new JEPs and accompanying features, also coming with long-term support. Now, we are already looking forward to Java 12 and other interesting stuff coming from incubator projects Amber and Valhalla, and new ideas in projects Loom, Panama, and Metropolis. Beside accelerated changes in the World of Java, there is an even larger number of modern technology trends such as IoT, Smart Devices, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Robotics, and Blockchain, which are rapidly adopted and developers must respond to it. We will be discussing this hyper-progress from the perspective of a typical Java development team, and talk about our present and our future, globally and locally. We will tackle important technical skills Java developers need these days, and, even more important, how to acquire them. Finally, we will close with details of (y)our favorite Java community – HUJAK.

The arrival of the blockchain technology, as an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a permanent, verifiable way, introduced the world of decentralization, therefore, challenging our preconceived perspectives of the current social, political, and economic systems, and most notably, the central banking system. As there can be a potentially unlimited number of validators in any given P2P network, consensus algorithms must be utilized for there to be any cooperation between them. The consensus is a problem in distributed computing wherein nodes within the system must reach an agreement given the presence of faulty processes or deceptive nodes. Current consensus protocols, in general, do have several shortcomings regarding performance, ease of use, and service quality. Therefore, in this presentation, we will describe a novel consensus algorithm that uses redundancy reduced gossip and virtual voting protocols based on a distributed computation and algorithms from theoretical computer science which provides a fair and fast, Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus protocol HashNET.

The e-government strategy of each country aims to deliver digital services to its citizens. In this paper Croatian National Identification and Authentication System (NIAS) as a base for usage of personal user box as a central point of receiving messages together with electronic identity infrastructure, as a key enablers in the development of trust into e-government in Croatia, will be described. Online authentication of electronic identity allows both the individual and the provider of government services (service agency) to have confidence in the identity of the other party in a transaction over the Internet (online transaction) and is essential infrastructural component for realizing overall objectives of e-government. There is a growing awareness that the interoperability of national public ICT infrastructures is a precondition for a more service-oriented and competitive public sector.

Integrated care approach and the broader view on a patient’s care is something that today’s healthcare systems thrive for. Medical information collected from many disparate sources, accessed by authorized users through Electronic healthcare record (EHR) is enabling technology behind. This article gives overview of different interoperability aspects related to data exchange and maps it to usual healthcare business processes. It also comments HL7 CDA being one of today’s widely used standards for clinical documents exchange. One concrete approach to Personal Healthcare Record (PHR) to EHR integration using HL7 Continuity of Care Document (CCD) is described.

In this paper we present the novel platform for accessing multimedia e-health content adapted for elders. ICT solutions offered on market today are not adapted to elder people. Home Health Smart TV was developed in order to solve this issue. Integration with social network features, like video communication and personalized calendar, solves another concern for elder population - social isolation. Elder population is accustomed to TV devices and with this specially designed platform they can access their medical data and communicate with friends, family or medical staff in a simple way that doesn’t require computer literacy.

Aim is to create free online database in order to empower decision making, enhance connectivity and collaboration, provide solutions for diagnostic challenges, establish recommendations, provide growing standardizations and technology acceleration.

Telemedicine as a set of systems and services that enable the sharing of medical diagnostic imaging data remotely is an important factor in the achievement of improving overall health system and services. Medical imaging generates large amounts of data. An MRI study can contain up to several gigabytes (GB). The obtained image data together with other metadata (about the patient) packed in standardized formats such as DICOM and NIfTI are stored in a centralized data repository. From there the needed data are sent to the client device (PC) and presented to a specialist who performs diagnostics. The exchange of such large amounts of data in the local network facilities is a significant problem due to bandwidth sharing which is even more significant in mobile and wireless networks. A possible solution to this problem is data compression with the requirement that there is no loss of data. This work presents a novel framework for four-dimensional medical data compression architecture. This framework is based on different procedures and algorithms that detect time and spatial redundancy in recorded MRI volumes. Motion in time is analysed through motion estimation based on neural networks. Motion estimation is used to eliminate a large amount of temporal and frequency redundancies that exists in sequences of 3D data. Combination of segmentation, block matching and motion field prediction along with expert knowledge are incorporated to achieve better performance. Spatial analysis is done through an extension of wavelet transformations to three dimensions. For still volume objects different wavelet packets with different filter banks provide a wide range of frequency analysis. The suggested data compression architecture incorporates operations for spatial and time analysis of datasets, creating kernel shapes and models, and fitting of medical 4D datasets. With combination of removing temporal and spatial redundancies, very high compression ratio can be achieved.

Embedded systems are the invisible electronics and corresponding software that bring intelligence to objects, processes and devices. The main challenge in engineering education for embedded systems at university level is a complex and multidisciplinary approach which includes understanding of various systems based on different technologies and system solution optimizations. To overcome the main challenge in engineering education for embedded systems at university level and provide a complex and multidisciplinary approach, the first cycle of the design of a unified, multiple-target platform that will enable integrated approach to computer engineering and embedded systems learning has been finished so far. This FP7 ICT – Collaborative Project: Embedded Computer Engineering Learning Platform (E2LP) is to challenge the traditional education of engineers in embedded systems design through real-time experiments that stimulate curiosity with ultimate goal to support students to understand and construct their personal conceptual knowledge based on experiments. In addition to the technological approach, cognitive theories on how people learn to help students achieve a stronger and smarter adoption of the subject will be used. We believe that our project can help ensure that Europe in future has the sufficient number of educated engineers, capable of designing complex systems and maintaining a leadership in the area of embedded systems.

One of the main principles of the smartphone and tablet operating systems is simplicity and accessibility. This feature was usually not available on the embedded systems and devices. By connecting these two types of devices, user interface and accessibility can be simplified. A myriad of new possibilities can be added to the embedded systems while giving smartphone and tablet users control over the external devices. The goal of this project is to create and build a fully functional model of a remotely controlled boat controllable through a mobile application. Connection is established through standard Bluetooth protocol and users are presented with the readings of the sensors found on the model. Boat is controlled by rotating the mobile device laterally and longitudinally and has the ability to change velocity or steer away from the obstacles.

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is server-client architecture which is service oriented. For communication purposes between server and client SOAP v1.0 and SOAP v1.2 protocols are used. Behind that, interoperability is enabled. That is reason for often using of binding WSHttpBindig. The specificity of WSHttpBinding is that in the massages data can be plain text and encrypted. For example, both sides can use certificates, or only server has certificate. Case when server has certificae is most often in the practice because of its simplicity for use on client side. Client aplication can use for security username and password to connect to the endpoint. In the messages data types can be data primitives and complex data. With this new project security is enabled on message level. Metro is still under development and some major changes in operability are expected. Metro project was cretaed from Tango project which has stopped in development.

We propose the framework for the motion estimation of 3D objects based on the motion vectors that form motion fields and the motion reconstruction based on the 3D rotations and the factorization method. The classical two-dimensional motion field approach is extended to three dimensions, e.g. on the volumetric objects that are moving in time. When dealing with the real world multiple moving objects and the complex scenes, lots of objects are moving with different motions, both in space and in time. In this context, an object can be described as a part of a scene that moves with a coherent motion and the scene can be broken down into a number of regions, each of which can be well approximated by its own motion. The first part of this paper describes the motion vectors based techniques which are used for the motion estimation, and the second part addresses problems with the reconstruction of the 3D motion and structure. Proposed methods estimate reconstruction from a sparse set of the matched volume features on the 3D neuroimage in NIfTI format. We evaluate these techniques according to the different problems they address.

Lossless compression of visual data is required in applications such as medical imaging, image archival, remote and satellite imaging etc. We present a new adaptive predictive image coding method based on the blending of multiple static predictors on a dynamically classified causal context of neighboring pixels. The idea of predictor blends is further expanded through the determination of blending context that changes its shape on a pixel--by--pixel basis using simple classification technique, thus allowing the modeling more complex image structures such as nontrivially oriented edges, the periodicity and coarseness of textures. Typical natural images are characterized as being composed of image regions with different local properties. The predictor estimates those properties around the currently unknown pixel and adjusts itself so that the presence of detected properties affect the way the final prediction is made. Predictive part is followed by a heuristic contextual model and statistical encoder.

U ovom radu predložen je novi programski okvir za kompresiju četvero-dimenzionalnih (4D) medicinskih podataka. Arhitektura ovog programskog okvira temelji se na različitim procedurama i algoritmima koji detektiraju vremenske i prostorne zalihosti u ulaznim 4D medicinskim podacima. Pokret kroz vrijeme analizira se pomoću vektora pomaka koji predstavljaju ulazne parametre za neuronske mreže koje se koriste za procjenu pokreta. Kombinacijom segmentacije, pronalaženja odgovarajućih blokova i predikcijom vektora pomaka, zajedno s ekspertnim znanjem moguće je optimirati performanse sustava. Frekvencijska svojstva se analiziraju proširenjem wavelet transformacije na tri dimenzije. Za mirne volumetrijske objekte, moguće je konstruirati različite wavelet pakete s različitim filtrima koji omogućavaju širok raspon analiza frekvencijskih zalihosti. An overview of the Croatian national student card system and its role in the ecosystem of existing information systems at the Universities.

This thesis presents a novel framework for four-dimensional medical data compression architecture. This framework is based on different procedures and algorithms that detect time and spatial redundancy in recorded MRI volumes. Motion in time is analyzed through motion estimation based on neural networks. Motion estimation is used to eliminate a large amount of temporal and frequency redundancies that exists in sequences of 3D data. Combination of segmentation, block matching and motion field prediction along with expert knowledge are incorporated to achieve better performance. Frequency analysis is done through an extension of wavelet transformations to three dimensions. For still volume objects different wavelet packets with different filter banks can be constructed, providing a wide range of frequency analysis. With combination of removing temporal and spatial redundancies, very high compression ratio is achived. The suggested data compression architecture can be implemented in telemedicine to improve the quality of service. It incorporates operations for frequency and time analysis of datasets, creating kernel shapes and models, and fitting of medical 4D datasets. Each part of the system architecture is implemented independently and can be used for other approaches such as entertainment applications and other new applications that use 4D data. U ovom doktorskom radu prezentirane su osnovne značajke arhitekture za četverodimenzionalnu kompresiju medicinskih podataka koja se temelji na različitim procedurama i algoritmima za analizu vremenske i prostorne zalihosti MR zapisa u NIfTI podatkovnom formatu. Za analizu i procjenu pokreta, a u cilju uklanjanja vremenske zalihosti koja postoji u slijedu 3D prostornih podataka koriste se neuronske mreže. Da bi se ostvarila kompresija takvih podataka, koristi se ekspertno znanje u različitim algoritmima segmentacije podataka, procjene oblika, predviđanja i definiranja polja pokreta. Frekvencijska analiza je ostvarena proširenjem transformacije temeljene na teoriji valića u tri dimenzije. Za statičke 3D prostorne podatke koriste se različite baze i paketi valića koji pružaju širok raspon frekvencijske analize. Uklanjanjem vremenske i prostorne zalihosti postiže se visok stupanj kompresije. Predložena arhitektura kompresije služi u podizanju razine kvalitete usluga u telemedicini. Svaki dio ove arhitekture predstavlja zasebnu cjelinu te se može primijeniti nezavisno i u druge svrhe, kao što su aplikacije namijenjene zabavi i druge aplikacije koje koriste četverodimenzionalne podatke.

Also, medical datasets usually contain a region representing the part of the body under investigation, and noisy background with no diagnostic interest. Therefore, it is important to identify contained sub-volumes as different regions of interest. In this paper we propose combination of lossless and lossy compression models to obtain toset demands. Coding of 4D data models should be both fast and efficient. In this paper is shown that with defining the regions of interest there can be achieved higher compression rates. Therefore we proposed lossless coding of areas of high interest and lossy coding areas of small interest.

These data sets are typically very large in size and demand a great amount of resources for storage and transmission. Therefore it is necessary to compress this data both fast and efficiently. We will propose combination of lossless and lossy compression models to obtain toset demands.

The usage of SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) format as a solution for delivering e-learning content is proposed. Distributed multi-user Web application for indexing SMIL presentations is described. Presentations, located on remote servers, are fetched using different protocols, analysed according to their temporal characteristics and indexed using the full-text search method. To offer students only the desired set of knowledge in a specific course, content can be grouped in different personalised search boxes. Such search boxes are easily placed on any course Web page and communicate with the search engine through client-side technologies only, thus eliminating the need to tweak learning systems and use the server-side programming.

A new lossless image compression algorithm is proposed. Algorithm is based on a highly adaptive predictor that uses blending context obtained using simple classification technique. This allows modeling of more complex image structures that occur often in medical images such as non--trivially oriented edges and the periodicity and coarseness of textures. The prediction step is followed by contextual error modeling which removes remaining statistical redundancies in the residual image data. Finally, error image is entropy coded. Results obtained with proposed compression method on a large set of medical images are very encouraging, beating several well known lossless compression methods. Algorithm can be efficiently applied for natural images as well.
