1. Twitter Propaganda Operations: Analyzing Sociopolitical Issues in Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore Arabic-language Tweets based out of Saudi Arabia to investigate the social media landscape. Specifically, this article seeks to address the question, “What thematic issues concerning the U.S. socio-political landscape are present in Arabic-language Twitter postings?” And, “To what extent can these issues be described as propagandic in nature?” To do so, we propose a machine-learning and artificial intelligence span detection approach to identify propaganda Tweets in Middle Eastern Countries, with a focus on Saudi Arabia. As opposed to previous work, this article maps and investigates different propaganda categories using the BEND Social Cyber Security framework. This article then proceeds to a case study analysis of state-sponsored targeted propaganda from Saudi Arabia and briefly describes the categories of propaganda uncovered. We then relate those categories to the BEND Framework and conclude with policy recommendations and discussion.

Abstract

Recently, Internet of Vehicles (IoVs) has been recognised as a key solution for vehicular communications. Connected vehicles and infrastructure' roadside units have been shaping the underlying architecture of IoVs technology, where the conventional routing protocols cannot facilitate reliable and efficient communication for dynamic IoVs topologies. Hence, this technology is highly susceptible to frequent network fragmentations, thus exposing communication channels to regular failure problems. This paper, thus, introduces a novel routing repair strategy, referred as Reliable Route Repairing Strategy (RRRS) to tackle routing failure problems. Repairing the operation of channel communications is prioritised according to a stability degree of the connected vehicles. The RRRS features are combined with the traditional AOMDV protocol, and a comparison study has been conducted to compare the AOMDV, the RRRS-AOMDV and the HM-AOMDV protocols. The simulation results demonstrate that the RRRS-AOMDV achieves better performance, about 30% to 45% in terms of packets overhead and latency.

Abstract

Recent advances in wireless sensor networks for ubiquitous health and activity monitoring systems have triggered the possibility of addressing human needs in smart environments through recognizing human real-time activities. While the nature of streams in such networks requires efficient recognition techniques, it is also subject to suspicious inference-based privacy attacks. In this paper, we propose a framework that efficiently recognizes human activities in smart homes based on spatiotemporal mining technique. In addition, we propose a technique to enhance the privacy of the collected human sensed activities using a modified version of micro-aggregation approach. An extensive validation of our framework has been performed on benchmark data sets yielding quite promising results in terms of accuracy and privacy-utility tradeoff.

Abstract

This textbook presents a practical introduction to information security using the Competency Based Education (CBE) method of teaching. The content and ancillary assessment methods explicitly measure student progress in the three core categories: Knowledge, Skills, and Experience, giving students a balance between background knowledge, context, and skills they can put to work. Students will learn both the foundations and applications of information systems security; safeguarding from malicious attacks, threats, and vulnerabilities; auditing, testing, and monitoring; risk, response, and recovery; networks and telecommunications security; source code security; information security standards; and compliance laws. The book can be used in introductory courses in security (information, cyber, network or computer security), including classes that don't specifically use the CBE method, as instructors can adjust methods and ancillaries based on their own preferences. The book content is also aligned with the Cybersecurity Competency Model, proposed by department of homeland security. The author is an active member of The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), which is led by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NICE is a partnership between government, academia, and the private sector focused on cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development.

Abstract

This book highlights several gaps that have not been addressed in existing cyber security research. It first discusses the recent attack prediction techniques that utilize one or more aspects of information to create attack prediction models. The second part is dedicated to new trends on information fusion and their applicability to cyber security; in particular, graph data analytics for cyber security, unwanted traffic detection and control based on trust management software defined networks, security in wireless sensor networks & their applications, and emerging trends in security system design using the concept of social behavioral biometric. The book guides the design of new commercialized tools that can be introduced to improve the accuracy of existing attack prediction models. Furthermore, the book advances the use of Knowledge-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to complement existing IDS technologies. It is aimed towards cyber security researchers.
