Three-point bending tests are performed on notched concrete beams under various cyclic loading regimes. Meanwhile, the digital image correlation (DIC) method is used to monitor the crack propagation. The fatigue fracture life decreases with the loading level increases for constant-amplitude cyclic loading. The residual crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) accumulates and fracture stiffness degrades with the loading process. The size of fracture process zone (FPZ) can be determined based on the full displacement field monitored by DIC method. The length of FPZ increases linearly with the increasing of effective crack length before the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) exceeds the critical value. When CTOD exceeds the critical value, a macroscopic crack formed in front of the initial crack tip. For cyclic envelope loading, the length of FPZ increases at beginning and then decreases with the increasing of effective crack length. For constant-amplitude loading, CTOD never reaches the critical value, and the macroscopic crack does not propagate forward. Finally, it is found that both the calculated effective crack lengths of concrete under constant-amplitude loading by two-parameter model (TPM) and DIC methods present three-stage feature, but the values calculated by TPM are smaller than those by DIC method. In order to study the fracture properties of dam concrete under post‐peak cyclic loading, wedge splitting tests with three loading rates were performed on notched cubic specimens. Meanwhile, the acoustic emission (AE) and digital image correlation (DIC) technologies were used to monitor crack propagation in the specimens. As the loading rate increases, the peak load increases, and stiffness degradation increases. The cumulative AE counts show a step increasing trend and exhibit a Kaiser effect, which decreases via the post‐peak cyclic loading procedure and increases as the loading rate increases. The AE energy fluctuates markedly, and b value fluctuates frequently with an increasing loading rate. As the loading rate increases, the strain recovery rate decreases, and the permanent crack increases. The effects of metakaolin powder (MP) on the microscopic rheological properties and macroscopic flow parameters of cementitious suspension under various water–cement ratios were investigated. By analyzing the changes in the bonding strength coefficient and water film thickness (WFT), the mechanism of MP on flow and rheological parameters can be explored. Further, the effect of MP on mechanical properties was explained from the perspective of water absorption kinetics and hydration activity contribution rate. The incorporation of MP can reduce the flow rate and flow spread and increase the compressive strength, plastic viscosity, yield stress and thixotropy, and the effects of MP were distinctive under various W/CM ratios. The bonding strength coefficient and WFT increased and decreased with increasing MP replacement content, respectively. The regression analysis results revealed that the bonding strength coefficient and WFT were the most important factors influencing the macroscopic flow parameters and rheological parameters, which indicated that MP influenced the rheology and flowability of cementitious suspension by affecting the flocculent structure and particle distance. Compared with WFT, the bonding strength coefficient had a stronger effect on these parameters. The MP improved the compressive strength by reducing the average pore size and porosity and increasing the pore uniformity and hydration activity contribution rate of hardened paste, and this improvement was enhanced by increasing curing age. In order to study the effect of loading rate on fracture behavior of dam concrete, wedge splitting tests of various loading rates (0.1, 0.01, and 0.001 mm/s) are carried out on two kinds of full-graded dam concrete notched cubes with side lengths of 300 and 450 mm, respectively. Digital image correlation and acoustic emission technique are used to measure the deformation and acoustic emission parameters of the dam concrete. Test results show that: the peak load and fracture energy of dam concrete specimens increases with the increase of loading rate. And the higher the loading rate is, the fracture of concrete shows more obvious brittleness. Influenced by the boundary effect, the CTOD increases with the increasing of loading rate, however, the length of crack decreases as loading rate increases. With the loading rate increases, the energy mutation area is more obvious, while the accumulated acoustic emission energy is affected by both the loading rate and the maximum aggregate size. The number of acoustic emission three-dimensional locating points and the shear signal decrease with the increase of loading rate, which is attributed to that the faster the loading rate is, the less sufficient the development of micro cracks in concrete is. The effect of moisture content on the compressive mechanical behaviours of cement mortar under different high strain rates is studied in this paper. The rapid impact testing, i.e. the strain rates of 80, 100, 150, 200 and 250 s− 1by Split Hopkinson pressure bar, on number of specimens with special water/cement ratio of 0.50 and saturations as 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, respectively, was executed. The dynamic compressive behaviours were analysed in terms of the maximum stresses, elastic modulus, critical strain at maximum stresses and ultimate strains at failure. Results indicated that similarity existed in the shape of strain–stress curves of mortars with different moisture subjected to different strain rates of impact loading, i.e. the upward section presented bilinear characteristics, while the descending stage was almost linear. As strain rate increases, the dynamic compressive strength, elastic modulus and critical strain at maximum stress increase which can be ascribed to the dynamic fracture effect and the microscope inertia effect. Besides, it was shown that desiccation provokes an increase in mortar strength and deformation behaviour of the studied mortar with different saturation caused by capillary depression and microcracking. Drying effect has to be considered in modelling of the coupling between desiccation and mechanical behaviour of the mortar. Finally, the multi-parametric statistical analysis of water content and strain rate on the mechanical behaviours of cement mortar subjected to dynamic loading is detailed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pore structure parameters such as porosity, threshold diameter, mean diameter, and total amounts of macropores, as well as shape and size of micropores are quantified by using mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) technique. Test results indicate that strains at peak stress and compressive strength decreased with the increasing sand-cement ratio due to insufficient binders to wrap up entire sand. A compression stress-strain model of normal concrete extending to predict the stress-strain relationships of manufactured sand mortar is verified and agreed well with experimental data. Furthermore, the stress-strain model constant is found to be influenced by threshold diameter, mean diameter, shape, and size of micropores.
