BACKGROUND The development and utilization of shale gas has become an important way to ensure national energy security and achieve global carbon neutrality goals. Shale gas reservoir is the direct target layer of shale gas exploration and development, because its shale nanopore throat system, dominated by organic pores, has the characteristics of integrated source storage, low porosity, low permeability and non-darcy flow. The evaluation of shale reservoir evaluation needs to break through the bondage of traditional inorganic pore evaluation ideas and the bottleneck of nanoscale characterization technology, and adopt higher precision and resolution experimental technology to characterize nanopores and depict organic pores. OBJECTIVES To understand the research progress on characterization technology of nano organic pore structure in shale and explore the evolution mechanism of organic pore formation, its experimental technical bottlenecks and possible solutions. METHODS According to the experimental types and principles, shale nanopore analysis can be divided into two types: physical experiment technology and imaging analysis technology. The former mainly carries out quantitative physical experiment analysis of rock physical properties, while the latter carries out microscopic in-situ observation and image analysis of pore structure. RESULTS Since organic pores were first discovered in the Barnett shale in North America in 2009, significant progress has been made in studying shale characterization techniques and developmental features. (1)Multi-scale and multi-type nanopore characterization techniques were established. Among them, the quantitative microstructure characterization technologies are dominated by mercury-adsorption joint measurement method and pulse attenuation method. Quantitative parameters of shale physical properties and full aperture distribution ranging from 0.35nm to 10000nm and permeability of < 1μD can be accurately obtained. High-resolution microscopy scanning based on field-emission SEM and microscopy-CT forms a multi-scale structure reconstruction technology of nanopore, and thus 2D-3D image information is available. (2)The formation and evolution of organic pores are controlled by organic matter type, rock evolution and other factors. It is necessary to reveal the internal connection between the influencing factors and the physical evolution law of organic matter molecular structure, which is the key to identify the heterogeneity of shale reservoirs. Formation and keeping of organic pores is in the process of decomposition and condensation reaction competition space effect. (3)Previous studies established a series of kerogen and asphalt structure model for the molecular organic pores evolution mechanism, providing the theoretical basis for research on the genetic mechanism and evolution law of organic pores at the molecular level. Transmission electron microscope and atomic force microscope are used to observe molecular space arrangement and microstructure internal form in stereo. These techniques enable the understanding of the mechanisms of organic pore formation and preservation at the nanoscale. CONCLUSIONS In-situ structure imaging and component scanning technology, reservoir description, composition analysis and digital core integration, are developed to the structure and composition, pore permeability and brittle integration dynamic evaluation. A leap from microstructural analysis to macroscopic big data prediction is realized, meeting the needs of efficient exploration and development of shale gas geology and engineering integration.

This paper investigates the method for water ingress detection in an aluminum honeycomb sandwich structure by laser ultrasonics. To clarify the propagation of Scholte waves generated at the solid-liquid interface, the theoretical dispersion curves in the water-aluminum layered structure are calculated by the global matrix method. Using a laser ultrasonic visualizing inspector, the guided wave propagation in the wavefields has been visualized, which shows the mode conversion behaviors occurring in the water ingress area. The clarification of mode conversion is then investigated by the finite element method. The Scholte modes at the solid-fluid interface and the Lamb modes in the face sheet are interconverted because of the change in the waveguide structure. Wavenumber filter reconstruction and the resulting energy maps are applied to illustrate the mode conversion in the wavefields and to detect the water ingress area. Results show that the appearance of the water layer contributes to the mode conversion behaviors during the guided wave propagation in the honeycomb sandwich structure, which offers the potential for water ingress detection based on the mode conversion behaviors. Phenol amination to various valuable amines has attracted considerable attention in heterogeneous catalysis, but limited studies have focused on non‐noble metal catalysts. This study reports a bifunctional catalyst (Ni/SiO2‐AE) containing nickel nanoparticles and Lewis acid sites derived from nickel phyllosilicates for efficient amination of phenol to cyclohexylamine. The Ni/SiO2‐AE catalyst resulted in 89.4% phenol conversion and 86.0% selectivity to cyclohexylamine at 160 °C for 2 h, which outperforms the catalysts by conventional deposition‐precipitation (Ni/SiO2‐DP) and wetness‐impregnation (Ni/SiO2‐WI). The turnover frequencies based on the actual exposed metal surface area for Ni/SiO2‐AE, Ni/SiO2‐DP, and Ni/SiO2‐WI are calculated as 71.7, 49.0, and 8.7 h−1, respectively. Results demonstrate that the Ni nanoparticles exsoluted from nickel phyllosilicates participate in the activation of dihydrogen molecules, and the Lewis acid sites stemmed from coordination unsaturated Ni2+ sites on the catalyst serve to adsorb and activate phenol. Detecting disbonds in honeycomb sandwich structures using ultrasonics is challenging due to the complex wave propagation. This paper investigates the method for disbond quantification in honeycomb sandwich structures using laser ultrasonics. In the experiments on an aluminum specimen, the detection frequency range was determined by the local defect resonance (LDR) in the disbond regions. The energy maps of bandpass wavefields identified the locations of disbonds. To improve the results, a frequency-wavenumber analysis of the wavefields was performed. The wavenumber spectra were reconstructed by wavenumber filtering to strengthen the outline components for quantifying disbonds. Local cross-correlation (LCC) was proposed to show the outlines of disbonds and honeycomb cells, whose results agreed well with the X-ray imaging. Moreover, LCC could also quantify a disbond in the composite honeycomb sandwich structure. Consequently, combining energy maps and LCC results can effectively detect the locations and sizes of disbonds in honeycomb sandwich structures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a new type of porous crystalline material constructed by the linkage of organic building units through covalent bonds to produce predetermined structures. Here, the electronic structure evolution induced by the charge redistribution during the construction of two-dimensional polymer networks (sp2c-COF-2 and COF-66) from building units to crystal frameworks is examined theoretically. The calculated results demonstrate that the electronic structure of the framework is controlled by the relative energy level between the frontier orbitals of organic building core and linker units as well as the charge transfer amount between them during the construction of the framework. Moreover, it is observed that a noncoplanar framework becomes more conjugated because the charge transfer amount between core and linker units becomes larger during the construction of 2D frameworks, which leads to a larger charge carrier mobility within the 2D structure of COFs. The charge carrier mobility along the z-direction of the COF crystal is dominated by the interface interaction between COF layers. Thereby, we believed reasonable design or selection of organic building units plays a key role in improving the electronic and optoelectronic properties of such 2D organic frameworks. Background: The serum uric acid/albumin ratio (sUAR), a novel inflammatory marker, effectively predicts acute kidney injury (AKI) and cardiovascular outcomes. However, whether the sUAR predicts post-contrast acute kidney injury (PC-AKI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains uncertain. In this study, we evaluated the association between the sUAR and PC-AKI in patients with STEMI undergoing PCI. Methods: We consecutively recruited patients with STEMI who underwent PCI and stratified them into three groups according to the terciles of the sUAR. The primary outcome was the incidence of PC-AKI. The association between the sUAR and PC-AKI was assessed by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: A total of 2861 patients with STEMI were included in this study. The incidence of PC-AKI increased stepwise with increasing sUAR tercile (2.6% vs 4.0% vs 11.6%, p < 0.001), and the incidence of in-hospital major adverse clinical events (MACEs) was highest among patients in the Q3 group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the sUAR was also an independent predictor of PC-AKI (continuous sUAR, per 1-unit increase, odds ratio [OR] [95% confidence interval (CI)]: 1.06 [1.02– 1.10], p = 0.005; tercile of sUAR, OR [95% CI] for Q2 and Q3: 1.18 [0.69– 2.01] and 1.85 [1.12– 3.06], respectively, with Q1 as a reference) but not in-hospital MACEs. In the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, the area under the curve (AUC) of the sUAR for predicting PC-AKI was 0.708 (95% CI: 0.666– 0.751), and ROC analysis also showed that the sUAR was superior to uric acid and albumin alone in predicting PC-AKI. Conclusion: Increasing sUAR was significantly associated with a higher risk of PC-AKI but not in-hospital MACEs in patients with STEMI who underwent PCI, suggesting that sUAR had a predictive value for PC-AKI after PCI in patients with STEMI. Heterogeneous halide-free carbonylation of methanol to acetates, including methyl acetate (MA) and acetic acid, using non-precious metal catalysts has been a topic of interest for decades. The key issue is that the water produced by methanol dehydration inhibits the formation of acetyl species and reduces the MA selectivity. Here, we report that CuCeOx/H-mordenite (H-MOR) catalyst can nearly eliminate the inhibiting effect of water on carbonylation by a water-gas shift reaction (WGSR) on-site, and can thus achieve 96.5% methanol conversion with 87.4% MA selectivity for the halide-free carbonylation of methanol. The results of powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy show that the Cu and Ce species are highly dispersed on H-MOR even when the CuCeOx contents are as high as 29 wt-%. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and CO chemisorption analysis reveal that a small portion of Cu species can migrate into the channel of H-MOR when CuCeOx/H-MOR is calcined at 500 °C and these Cu species are converted into Cu+ sites upon reduction. The Cu+ sites facilitate the WGSR and are also active sites for methanol carbonylation. The introduction of Ce benefits the inhibition of coke deposits and thus enhances the catalyst stability. The efficient hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of lignin‐derived oxygenates is essential but challenging owing to the inherent complexity of feedstock and the lack of effective catalytic approaches. A catalytic strategy has been developed that separates C−O hydrogenolysis and aromatic hydrogenation on different active catalysts with interoperation that can achieve high oxygen removal in lignin‐derived oxygenates. The flexible use of tungsten carbide for C−O bond cleavage and a nickel catalyst with controlled particle size for arene hydrogenation enables the tunable production of cyclohexane and cyclohexanol with almost full conversion of guaiacol. Such integration of dual catalysts in close proximity enables superior HDO of bio‐oils into liquid alkanes with high mass and carbon yields of 27.9 and 45.0 wt %, respectively. To improve traffic management ability, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are gradually upgrading legacy network devices to programmable devices that support Software-Defined Networking (SDN). The coexistence of legacy and SDN devices gives rise to a hybrid SDN. Existing hybrid SDNs do not consider the potential performance issues introduced by a centralized SDN controller: flow requests processed by a highly loaded controller may experience long-tail processing delay; inappropriate multi-controller deployment could increase the propagation delay of flow requests. In this paper, we propose to jointly consider the deployment of SDN switches and their controllers for hybrid SDNs. We formulate the joint problem as an optimization problem that maximizes the number of flows that can be controlled and managed by the SDN and minimizes the propagation delay of flow requests between SDN controllers and switches under a given upgrade budget constraint. We show this problem is NP-hard. To efficiently solve the problem, we propose some techniques (e.g., strengthening the constraints and adding additional valid inequalities) to accelerate the global optimization solver for solving the problem for small networks and an efficient heuristic algorithm for solving it for large networks. The simulation results from real network topologies illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques and show that our proposed heuristic algorithm uses a small number of controllers to manage a high amount of flows with good performance. Akaganéite, with the formula FeO(OH,Cl), has potential in the realms of environmental protection, energy conversion/storage, and biomedicine. However, its large-scale production is still challenging in terms of cost and environmental friendliness, which limits its commercial application. In this study, we report a one-step sonochemical fabrication method to address this challenge. Fabrication has been performed in aqueous FeCl3 solutions with the aid of acoustic cavitation by gas bubbles. The fabricated FeO(OH,Cl) nanoparticles (NPs) are porous and exhibit spindle shapes. With increasing sonication time, these NPs can be spontaneously assembled to form irregular micro-/nanostructures of varied sizes. When required, such assemblies could be suitably directed by adding appropriate templates, either natural or artificial. The template-directed assembly relies on the principle of minimum free energy and the resulting FeO(OH,Cl) NPs nucleating and growing along the added templates. This study demonstrates a sonochemical fabrication method amenable to large-scale production, that is inexpensive and environmentally friendly, providing monodisperse porous FeO(OH,Cl) NPs of spindle shape and their various assemblies for commercial purposes. • The inert tungsten carbides are activated by C-etching in the presence of Pt. • Pt–WC with C-defects shows efficient activity for cleavage of aryl ether C O bond. • The catalytic promotion is ascribed to the synergy effects of Pt species and C-defects. • Pt–WC displays a different reaction pathway compared with WC and Pt alone. • The synergy effects of other transition metals and C-defects are also manifested. Transition-metal carbides are attractive heterogeneous catalysts for the transformation of lignin-derived compounds. However, the effects of the surface carbon defect (C-defect) remain unclear due to coke deposition and exposed C terminations. Herein, we transform inert tungsten carbides (WC) into active catalysts via surficial C-etching using transition metals in the presence of H 2. An optimized 1% Pt–WC catalyst with synergy of Pt and C-defects can perform a 78.6% conversion in the selective hydrogenolysis of guaiacol to phenol with 89.0% selectivity at 300 °C, while the intact WC only gives a 7.1% guaiacol conversion with 51.0% phenol selectivity under the same conditions. As a result, the 1% Pt–WC catalyst exhibits 19-fold higher reaction rate and 12.6-fold higher turnover frequency than those of WC. Moreover, no substantial loss of catalytic performance has been observed with 1% Pt–WC for 50 h on stream. A rational reaction pathway is accordingly proposed through in-depth characterizations. Most of multi-component high entropy alloys (HEAs) are only based on metal elements and rarely added with nonmetallic elements. In present paper, CoCrFeNiMn HEA added with 0.1 at.% N has been successfully synthesized by mechanical alloying (MA) followed by vacuum hot pressing sintering (VHPS). During the MA process, the alloying elements were gradually alloyed and formed as face-center (FCC) solid solutions. Subsequently, σ phases, Cr 2 N phases, FCC matrix phases with traces of Cr 23 C 6 carbides were observed after VHPS. In comparison with CoCrFeNiMn HEA produced by the same method, the Vickers hardness increased up to 468HV, while the yield stress, ultimate compressive strength increased by 203 MPa and 115 MPa respectively, accompanied by a small decrease in plasticity. Aim: In patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), a low serum albumin-to-creatinine ratio (sACR) is associated with elevated risk of poor short- and long-term outcomes. However, the relationship between sACR and pulmonary infection during hospitalization in patients with STEMI undergoing PCI remains unclear., Methods: A total of 4,507 patients with STEMI undergoing PCI were enrolled and divided into three groups according to sACR tertile. The primary outcome was pulmonary infection during hospitalization, and the secondary outcome was in-hospital major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) including stroke, in-hospital mortality, target vessel revascularization, recurrent myocardial infarction, and all-cause mortality during follow-up., Results: Overall, 522 (11.6%) patients developed pulmonary infections, and 223 (4.9%) patients developed in-hospital MACE. Cubic spline models indicated a non-linear, L-shaped relationship between sACR and pulmonary infection (P=0.039). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis indicated that sACR had good predictive value for both pulmonary infection (area under the ROC curve [AUC]=0.73, 95% CI=0.70-0.75, P＜0.001) and in-hospital MACE (AUC=0.72, 95% CI=0.69-0.76, P＜0.001). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis indicated that higher sACR tertiles were associated with a greater cumulative survival rate (P＜0.001). Cox regression analysis identified lower sACR as an independent predictor of long-term all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR]=0.96, 95% CI=0.95-0.98, P＜0.001)., Conclusions: A low sACR was significantly associated with elevated risk of pulmonary infection and MACE during hospitalization, as well as all-cause mortality during follow-up among patients with STEMI undergoing PCI. These findings highlighted sACR as an important prognostic marker in this patient population.

Background: Adiposity and adipokines are closely associated with obesity-related metabolic abnormalities, but little is known regarding whether abdominal obesity is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) through circulating adiponectin levels. Thus, this large-population-based study was designed to investigate the mediating effect of adiponectin in the relationship between abdominal obesity and T2DM., Methods: A total of 232,438 adults who lived in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China, were enrolled in the present study. The circulating adiponectin concentrations were measured using latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric assay. The association between circulating adiponectin and other clinical parameters was detected by Spearman's correlation analysis. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression was also used to address the non-linearity of the relationship between waist circumference and diabetes. Mediation analyses of circulating adiponectin were conducted using linear and logistic regression., Results: Subjects with abdominal obesity had lower levels of circulating adiponectin ( P < 0.001). The circulating adiponectin value was inversely related to BMI (r = -0.370, P < 0.001), waist circumference (r = -0.361, P < 0.001), and fasting plasma glucose (r = -0.221, P < 0.001). The RCS plot showed a non-linear relation linking waist circumference with T2DM ( P for non-linearity < 0.001). Patients with abdominal obesity presented 2.062 times higher odds of T2DM in comparison with those with non-abdominal obesity (odds ratio, 2.062; 95% confidence interval, 1.969-2.161) after adjusting for confounders. In the mediation analyses, the circulating adiponectin mediated the association between abdominal obesity and T2DM, with a mediation effect of 41.02% after adjustments. Aims: Observational evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship between cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and pneumonia. However, the causality between CVDs and pneumonia remains undetermined. Thus, we aimed to investigate the bidirectional causality between CVDs and pneumonia using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis., Methods: Global genetic correlation analysis and bidirectional two-sample MR analysis were performed to infer the genetic correlation and causality between CVDs and pneumonia by using genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data from GWAS meta-analysis study, FinnGen or UK Biobank consortium. Post-hoc power calculation was conducted to assess the power for detecting the causality., Results: The linkage disequilibrium score regression analysis suggested a positive significant genetic correlation between CVDs and pneumonia. In the MR analysis, only genetically predicted ischemic stroke was causally associated with any pneumonia (odds ratio [OR]: 1.119, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.031-1.393), bacterial pneumonia (OR: 1.251, 95% CI: 1.032-1.516), and pneumococcal pneumonia (OR: 1.308, 95% CI: 1.093-1.565), but the causality was attenuated to non-significance after adjusting for deep venous thrombosis. However, the causal effects of pneumonia on CVDs were not detected. Post-hoc power calculations supported strong power (more than 80%) to detect the causality., Conclusions: Ischemic stroke is causally associated with an increased risk of pneumonia, but there is no evidence for the causal effect of pneumonia on CVDs. Our findings have important implications as they provide further support for the thrombosis risk screening as a strategy to reduce the incidence of pneumonia in patients with ischemic stroke., (© The Author(s) 2024. Objective . Most quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (qMRI) methods are time-consuming. Multiple overlapping-echo detachment (MOLED) imaging can achieve quantitative parametric mapping of a single slice within around one hundred milliseconds. Nevertheless, imaging the whole brain, which involves multiple slices, still takes a few seconds. To further accelerate qMRI, we introduce multiband SENSE (MB-SENSE) technology to MOLED to realize simultaneous multi-slice T 2 mapping. Approach. The multiband MOLED (MB-MOLED) pulse sequence was carried out to acquire raw overlapping-echo signals, and deep learning was utilized to reconstruct T 2 maps. To address the issue of image quality degradation due to a high multiband factor MB, a plug-and-play (PnP) algorithm with prior denoisers (DRUNet) was applied. U-Net was used for T 2 map reconstruction. Numerical simulations, water phantom experiments and human brain experiments were conducted to validate our proposed approach. Main results. Numerical simulations show that PnP algorithm effectively improved the quality of reconstructed T 2 maps at low signal-to-noise ratios. Water phantom experiments indicate that MB-MOLED inherited the advantages of MOLED and its results were in good agreement with the results of reference method. In vivo experiments for MB = 1, 2, 4 without the PnP algorithm, and 4 with PnP algorithm indicate that the use of PnP algorithm improved the quality of reconstructed T 2 maps at a high MB. For the first time, with MB = 4, T 2 mapping of the whole brain was achieved within 600 ms. Significance. MOLED and MB-SENSE can be combined effectively. This method enables sub-second T 2 mapping of the whole brain. The PnP algorithm can improve the quality of reconstructed T 2 maps. Introduction: It is unclear whether admission-blood-glucose-to-albumin ratio (AAR) predicts adverse clinical outcomes in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who are treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Here, we performed a observational study to explore the predictive value of AAR on clinical outcomes., Methods: Patients diagnosed with STEMI who underwent PCI between January 2010 and February 2020 were enrolled in the study. The patients were classified into three groups according to AAR tertile. The primary outcome was in-hospital all-cause mortality, and the secondary outcomes were in-hospital major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), as well as all-cause mortality and MACEs during follow-up. Logistic regression, Kaplan-Meier analysis, and Cox proportional hazard regression were the primary analyses used to estimate outcomes., Results: Among the 3,224 enrolled patients, there were 130 cases of in-hospital all-cause mortality (3.9%) and 181 patients (5.4%) experienced MACEs. After adjustment for covariates, multivariate analysis demonstrated that an increase in AAR was associated with an increased risk of in-hospital all-cause mortality [adjusted odds ratio (OR): 2.72, 95% CI: 1.47-5.03, P  = 0.001] and MACEs (adjusted OR: 1.91, 95% CI: 1.18-3.10, P  = 0.009), as well as long-term all-cause mortality [adjusted hazard ratio (HR): 1.64, 95% CI: 1.19-2.28, P  = 0.003] and MACEs (adjusted HR: 1.58, 95% CI: 1.16-2.14, P  = 0.003). Utilization of solar energy for photocatalytic H 2 evolution coupled with value-added chemical synthesis is a promising avenue to address energy and environmental crises. Here, we report the hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) synthesis and H 2 evolution from methanol and ammonia in one pot using a nanophotocatalyst of the conventional semiconductor TiO 2 (P25) loaded with Pt (Pt/P25). The addition of ammonia inhibits byproduct ethylene glycol formation, promotes H 2 evolution, and obtains HMT with high selectivity (>99.0%). The Pt valence state is regulated by calcination and reduction treatment, indicating that Pt/P25 is a stable catalyst for the photocatalytic synthesis of HMT from methanol and ammonia. The optimized formation rates of H 2 and HMT are 71.53 and 11.39 mmol g cat -1 h -1 , respectively.
