Abstract This study evaluated the effectiveness of intraovarian platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in improving ovarian response and embryo quality in IVF patients with poor embryo quality in previous controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) cycles. 74 patients participated, with 30 in the control group and 44 in the PRP group. PRP was injected during the follicular phase for the PRP group. The control group completed two COH cycles, while the PRP group underwent COH cycles before and after the PRP injection. In the first COH cycle, there were no significant differences between groups. Camellia formosensis is a significant under the forest canopy crop in Taiwan. This study investigated the composition and yield variations of native Camellia formosensis tea leaves across different relative light intensities levels and seasons. Increasing the relative intensity of natural light resulted in a corresponding increase in the dry weight of C. formosensis leaves. At a relative light intensity of 70%, the dry weight of the leaves per unit area was 15.8 g. However, the yield of C. formosensis was lower at relative light intensities of 40% or 20%. A positive correlation was observed between relative light intensities and the contents of catechin gallate (CG), epicatechin gallate (ECG), and gallocatechin gallate (GCG) and relative light intensity. At 20% relative light intensity, the mean CG, ECG, and GCG contents were 4.97, 0.57, and 4.43 mg/g, respectively. These values surged to 6.93, 2.23, and 7.53 mg/g, respectively, at 70% relative light intensity. Caffeine content exhibited an inverse relationship with relative light intensity, declining notably after surpassing 70%. Moreover, C. formosensis leaves harvested in summer under 70% relative light intensity boasted higher contents of CG, epicatechin (EC), ECG, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and caffeine than those harvested in spring. Ester catechin content surpassed non-ester catechins, with the former consistently higher at 100% relative light intensity, irrespective of the season.

Abstract Background For in vitro fertilization (IVF), mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) levels in the trophectodermal (TE) cells of biopsied blastocysts have been suggested to be associated with the cells’ developmental potential. However, scholars have reached differing opinions regarding the use of mtDNA levels as a reliable biomarker for predicting IVF outcomes. Therefore, this study aims to assess the association of mitochondrial copy number measured by mitoscore associated with embryonic developmental characteristics and ploidy. Methods This retrospective study analyzed the developmental characteristics of embryos and mtDNA levels in biopsied trophectodermal cells. The analysis was carried out using time-lapse monitoring and next-generation sequencing from September 2021 to September 2022. Five hundred and fifteen blastocysts were biopsied from 88 patients undergoing IVF who met the inclusion criteria. Embryonic morphokinetics and morphology were evaluated at 118 h after insemination using all recorded images. Monitoring perennial tea tree leaf area index (LAI) provides essential insights into crop growth, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) -based LAI estimation has recently proven effective across various crops. In subtropical regions, the conventional farming method (CFM), involves intensive irrigation and fertilization, and the agroecological farming method (AFM) emphasizes environmentally sustainable practices. This research employs machine learning (ML) to analyze thirty-four vegetation indices (VIs) and eight texture features (TFs) derived from UAV imagery, alongside in situ LAI measurements, to estimate tea tree LAI under CFM and AFM. Additionally, minimum redundancy-maximum relevance analysis was utilized to assess the mutual information of features for regression analysis using Polynomial Regression (PR), Ridge Regression, Decision Tree Regression, and Random Forest Regression (RFR) models. The results showed that: (1) AFM had higher in situ LAI values (mean = 4.323, SD = 1.594) compared to CFM (mean = 3.901, SD = 1.816), with less seasonal variation, mainly attributed to agronomic practices like harvesting and winter pruning. (2) Optimal image features for LAI estimation were identified by extracting pixel-based features from tea tree regions to enhance the correlation between LAI and imagery. (3) Combining VIs and TFs improved LAI estimation accuracy. The RFR model, using two VIs and one TF, achieved R² = 0.710 and RMSE = 1.357 for CFM, while the PR model, incorporating nine VIs and 10 TFs, had R² = 0.540 and RMSE = 1.283 for AFM. This study demonstrates that ML techniques are promising for estimating tea tree LAI using UAV-based multispectral imagery, offering practical guidelines for efficient field management.

Abstract Sod culture (SC) and conventional agriculture (CA) represent two distinct field management approaches utilized in the cultivation of tea plants in Taiwan. In this study, we employed gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence techniques to assess the impact of SC and CA methods on the photosynthetic machinery of Camellia sinensis cv. TTES No.12 (Jhinhsuan) in response to variable light intensities across different seasons. In spring, at photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFD) ranging from 800 to 2,000 μmol photon m-2 s-1, the net photosynthesis rate (Pn, 10.43 μmol CO2 m-2 s-1), stomatal conductance (Gs, 126.11 mmol H2O m-2 s-1), electron transport rate (ETR, 137.94), and ΔF/Fm’ and Fv/Fm (50.37) values for plants grown using SC were comparatively higher than those cultivated under CA. Conversely, the non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) values for SC-grown plants were relatively lower (3.11) compared to those grown under CA at 800 to 2,000 PPFD in spring. Additionally, when tea plants were exposed to PPFD levels below 1,500 μmol photon m− 2 s− 1, there was a concurrent increase in Pn, Gs, ETR, and NPQ. These photosynthetic parameters are crucial for devising models that optimize cultivation practices across varying seasons and specific tillage requirements, and for predicting photosynthetic and respiratory responses of tea plants to seasonally or artificially altered light irradiances. The observed positive impacts of SC on maximum photosynthetic rate (Amax), Fv/Fm, Gs, water-use efficiency (WUE), and ETR suggest that SC is advantageous for enhancing the productivity of tea plants, thereby offering a more adaptable management model for tea gardens.

Abstract Background Several studies have demonstrated that iDAScore is more accurate in predicting pregnancy outcomes in cycles without preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) compared to KIDScore and the Gardner criteria. However, the effectiveness of iDAScore in cycles with PGT-A has not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, this study aims to assess the association between artificial intelligence (AI)-based iDAScore (version 1.0) and pregnancy outcomes in single-embryo transfer (SET) cycles with PGT-A. Methods This retrospective study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Chung Sun Medical University, Taichung, Taiwan. Patients undergoing SET cycles (n = 482) following PGT-A at a single reproductive center between January 2017 and June 2021. The blastocyst morphology and morphokinetics of all embryos were evaluated using a time-lapse system. The blastocysts were ranked based on the scores generated by iDAScore, which were defined as AI scores, or by KIDScore D5 (version 3.2) following the manufacturer’s protocols. A single blastocyst without aneuploidy was transferred after examining the embryonic ploidy status using a next-generation sequencing-based PGT-A platform. Logistic regression analysis with generalized estimating equations was conducted to assess whether AI scores are associated with the probability of live birth (LB) while considering confounding factors. Results Logistic regression analysis revealed that AI score was significantly associated with LB probability (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 2.037, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.632–2.542) when pulsatility index (PI) level and types of chromosomal abnormalities were controlled. Blastocysts were divided into quartiles in accordance with their AI score (group 1: 3.0–7.8; group 2: 7.9–8.6; group 3: 8.7–8.9; and group 4: 9.0–9.5). The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth and flowering characteristics of three Oncidesa cultivars under four distinct canopy treatments in a greenhouse environment. The control canopy treatment (canopy D) involved covering the greenhouse with black shade nets to reduce natural light penetration. Canopy B included black shade nets in combination with a transparent plastic screen on the sides to further modify the light conditions. Additionally, two other treatments were applied: black shade nets with (canopy A) or without (canopy C) plastic sheeting, supplemented with daily lighting from high-pressure sodium lamps. Ten horticultural traits were measured to assess the impact of these canopy treatments on different cultivars at various growth stages. The results show that canopy treatments significantly affected all the measured traits of the Oncidesa cultivars, except for leaf width. Apollo plants treated under canopy A exhibited longer and thicker pseudobulbs, wider leaves, higher chlorophyll content, and a greater number of branches and florets compared to Honey Angel and Golden Star. Plants under canopy C showed superior growth traits across all cultivars, while those under canopies A and D exhibited better flowering quality. These findings suggest that different canopy treatments had varying effects on the growth and flowering traits of Oncidesa cultivars, with each cultivar showing distinct adaptability to specific canopy conditions.

In our previous work, we observed that Oncidesa Gower Ramsey ‘Honey Angel’ (HA) plants became stunned on hot summer afternoons, and the seasonal trend in solar radiation affected its production schedule by limiting flower yield and quality. The objective of this work was to study the growth and flowering characteristics of HA pseudobulbs at three stages of growth (G2–G4) in response to three types of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting treatments, including full spectrum (FS), deep red/white-medium blue (DR/W-MB), and deep red/white-low blue (DR/W-LB), for two additional time intervals. The supplementary LED lighting time intervals (S) applied daily were carried out for 1 h (4:00~5:00 a.m., as S-1) or 2 h (4:00~6:00 a.m., as S-2) from March to September, 2022. Natural light without supplemental lighting was the control. The length of pseudobulb (PL), width of pseudobulb (PW), thickness of pseudobulb (PT), length of inflorescence (FL), number of branches (FB), number of florets (FN), and days to flowering (FD) per plant were recorded andcalculated when 80% of florets became mature. Light treatments significantly affected all pseudobulb growth and flower quality traits at different Gs, especially pseudobulb length (PL) and flower number (FN) under different LED types and lighting time intervals. MB-1 treatment promoted PT at both G3 and G4, whereas MB-2 treatment increased PW at both G2 and G4. Both MB-1 and LB-1 treatments had augmented effects on PL, respectively, at G2 and G3. The PW, FL, FB, and FN increased with additional light time and reached maxima under MB-2 treatment at G4 compared to other treatments and controls. Early flowering and an increased number of flowers at G4 were observed in plants grown under MB-2 treatment. Controlling light quality and supplementary light time intervals enables the production of HA plants with the desired growth and flowering quality characteristics of the pseudobulbs.

Avoiding aneuploid embryo transfers has been shown to improve pregnancy outcomes in patients with implantation failure and pregnancy loss. This retrospective cohort study aims to analyze the correlation of time-lapse (TL)-based variables and numeric blastocyst morphological scores (TLBMSs) with different mosaic levels. In total, 918 biopsied blastocysts with time-lapse assessments at a uniform time-point were subjected to next-generation sequencing–based preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy. In consideration of patient- and cycle-related confounding factors, all redefined blastocyst morphology components of low-grade blastocysts, that is, expansion levels (odds ratio [OR] = 0.388, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.217–0.695; OR = 0.328, 95% CI = 0.181–0.596; OR = 0.343, 95% CI = 0.179–0.657), inner cell mass grades (OR = 0.563, 95% CI = 0.333–0.962; OR = 0.35, 95% CI = 0.211–0.58; OR = 0.497, 95% CI = 0.274–0.9), and trophectoderm grades (OR = 0.29, 95% CI = 0.178–0.473; OR = 0.242, 95% CI = 0.143–0.411; OR = 0.3, 95% CI = 0.162–0.554), were less correlated with mosaic levels ≤20%,

Mangrove ecosystems are vulnerable to rising sea levels as the plants are exposed to high salinity and tidal submergence. The ways in which these plants respond to varying salinities, immersion depths, and levels of light irradiation are poorly studied. To understand photosynthesis in response to salinity and submergence in mangroves acclimated to different tidal elevations, two-year-old seedlings of two native mangrove species, Kandelia obovata and Rhizophora stylosa, were treated at different salinity concentrations (0, 10, and 30 part per thousand, ppt) with and without immersion conditions under fifteen photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFD μmol photon·m−2·s−1). The photosynthetic capacity and the chlorophyll fluorescence (ChlF) parameters of both species were measured. We found that under different PPFDs, electron transport rate (ETR) induction was much faster than photosynthetic rate (Pn) induction, and Pn was restricted by stomatal conductance (Gs). The Pn of the immersed K. obovata plants increased, indicating that this species is immersed-tolerant, whereas the Pn level of the R. stylosa plants is salt-tolerant with no immersion. All of the plants treated with 30 ppt salinity exhibited lower Pn but higher non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) and heat quenching (D) values, followed by increases in the excess energy and photoprotective effects. Since NPQ or D can be easily measured in the field, these values provide a useful ecological monitoring index that may provide a reference for mangrove restoration, habitat creation, and ecological monitoring.

Oncidium are grown worldwide and play important economic roles. The objective of this study was to investigate the pseudobulb growth and flowering characteristics of the two Oncidesa Gower Ramsey cultivars, ‘Honey Angel (HA)’ and ‘Golden Star (GS)’, cultivated under 3 kinds of fertilizer treatments in response to 40% light intensity (LI-40) and 30% light intensity (LI-30, as control) photosynthetic photon flux density over a 5-month period. The conventional-fertilizer (CF) treatment, as a control, consisted of a liquid manure solution of N:K = 1:1.12, mixed with 7.8% N, 0.8% P2O5, 0.3% K2O, and 57.3% of organic matter that was foliage-applied to plants twice weekly. The stage-fertilizer (SF) treatment consisted of N:P:K = 1:1:5 foliage-applied to plants in an unsheathing pseudobulb stage until reaching inflorescence, followed by N:P:K = 1:1:1 application until the end of the experiment. The fortnight-fertilizer (FF) treatment consisted of N:P:K = 1:1:5 and N:P:K = 1:1:1 with interval-rotate foliage-application to plants weekly until the end of the experiment. Pseudobulb length (PL), pseudobulb major axis (PW), and pseudobulb minor axis (PT), and inflorescence length (FL), number of pedicel (FB), and floret numbers (FN) per plant were recorded and calculated from two months after pseudobulb maturity until the end of the five-month experimental period. The GS variety significantly increased PL when treated with CF and FF compared to HA, and GS treated with CF under LI-30 exhibited the longest PL at 81.65 mm. PW increased as LI increased under FF treatment, and the largest PW was observed in GS treated with FF under LI-40. A maximal and significant increase in PT occurred in LI-40 compared to LI-30 under the CF treatment. GS had a significantly higher FL compared to HA treated with CF, and the longest FL was detected in GS under LI-30. HA had a significantly higher FB and FN under LI-40 than under LI-30, and the highest number of FB and FN in HA occurred when it was treated with CF and SF, respectively. Precision management of fertilization treatments in response to LI can maximize pseudobulb growth, development, and flowering quality in Oncidesa species.

Abstract Background The environmental stresses caused by climate change have become more severe in recent decades, affecting tree growth and physiology. Tropical forests have great potential for global carbon sequestration. However, they suffer from heavy rainfall and prolonged dry periods due to climate change. Swietenia macrophylla King and Melia azedarach L. are economically valuable trees that are widely planted in southern Taiwan. Plantations are exposed to either prolonged dry periods or heavy rainfall within the seasons of tropical monsoon areas. Photo-physiological comparisons may provide information that can improve management of S. macrophylla and M. azedarach plantations in tropical regions. Results Both species exhibited a midday depression in leaf photosynthesis regardless of the season. The net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g s), and transpiration rate (E) in the dry season all significantly decreased in both tree species. In addition, M. azedarach used water more efficiently than did S. macrophylla during the dry season, but S. macrophylla had higher P N compared with that in M. azedarach during the wet season. Temperature and vapor pressure deficit influenced P N variation in S. macrophylla and M. azedarach, respectively. Our data suggested that the P N and g s of M. azedarach, but not of S. macrophylla, were linearly correlated during the dry season. The reduction of the leaf area was more sever in M. azedarach than in S. macrophylla, thus preventing water loss more efficiently. Conclusions M. azedarach adapted to drought by reducing total leaf area and maintaining higher P N, g s, E, and WUE compared with those measured in S. macrophylla during the dry season. M. azedarach is more drought adaptation and more suitable for both humid and semi-humid areas than S. macrophylla, whereas the latter should be limited to more humid areas.

Surface fuel loading is a key factor in controlling wildfires and planning sustainable forest management. Spatially explicit maps of surface fuel loading can highlight the risks of a forest fire. Geospatial information is critical in enabling careful use of deliberate fire setting and also helps to minimize the possibility of heat conduction over forest lands. In contrast to lidar sensing and/or optical sensing based methods, an approach of integrating in-situ fuel inventory data, geospatial interpolation techniques, and multiple linear regression methods provides an alternative approach to surface fuel load estimation and mapping over mountainous forests. Using a stratified random sampling based inventory and cokriging analysis, surface fuel loading data of 120 plots distributed over four kinds of fuel types were collected in order to develop a total surface fuel loading model (lntSFL-BioTopo model) and a fine surface fuel model (lnfSFL-BioTopo model) for generating tSFL and fSFL maps. Results showed that the combination of topographic parameters such as slope, aspect, and their cross products and the fuel types such as pine stand, non-pine conifer stand, broadleaf stand, and conifer–broadleaf mixed stand was able to appropriately describe the changes in surface fuel loads over a forest with diverse terrain morphology. Based on a cross-validation method, the estimation of tSFL and fSFL of the study site had an RMSE of 3.476 tons/ha and 3.384 tons/ha, respectively. In contrast to the average loading of all inventory plots, the estimation for tSFL and fSFL had a relative error of 38% (PRMSE). The reciprocal of estimation bias of both SFL-BioTopo models tended to be an exponential growth function of the amount of surface fuel load, indicating that the estimation accuracy of the proposed method is likely to be improved with further study. In the regression modeling, a natural logarithm transformation of the surface fuel loading prevented the outcome of negative estimates and thus improved the estimation. Based on the results, this paper defined a minimum sampling unit (MSU) as the area for collecting surface fuels for interpolation using a cokriging model. Allocating the MSUs at the boundary and center of a plot improved surface fuel load prediction and mapping.

Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) plays a key role in the survivability of mouse embryos during pre-implantation. In this study, we verified the role of LIF by detecting gene expression in morula stage embryos through DNA microarray. Our results showed that LIF knockdown affected expression of 369 genes. After LIF supplementation, the epidermal growth factor (EGF) is most affected by LIF expression. To observe the correlation between LIF and EGF, the LIF knockdown embryos were supplemented with various growth factors, including LIF, EGF, GM-CSF, TGF, and IGF II. Only LIF and EGF caused the rate of blastocyst development to recover significantly from 52% of control to 83% and 93%, respectively. All of the variables, including the diameter of blastocysts, the number of blastomeres, and cells in ICM and TE, were almost restored. Moreover, EGF knockdown also impaired blastocyst development, which was reversed by LIF or EGF supplementation. The treatment with various signaling suppressors revealed that both EGF and LIF promoted embryonic development through the JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway. These data suggest that the EGF and LIF can be compensatory to each other during early embryonic development, and at least one of them is necessary for sustaining the normal development of pre-implantation embryos.

Purpose: This study determined the incidence of sperm nuclear DNA fragmentation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and chromosomal aneuploidy. The results were correlated with the semen analysis parameters and fertilization rates. Methods: Semen samples from 10 men showing oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT) and undergoing ICSI treatment were analyzed. Another semen samples from 10 men showing normozoospermia and undergoing IVF treatment were analyzed for comparison. The samples were prepared using a two-step discontinuous Percoll gradient (80%-50%) and analyzed using a Hamilton-Thorne Integrated Visual Optical System (IVOS) Sperm Analyzer. DNA fragmentation was detected with a terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end label (TUNEL) assay. Functional integrity of mitochondria was detected using an Apoalert™ Mitochondrial Membrane Sensor Kit. Chromosomal aneuploidy was assayed by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Results: Higher sperm DNA fragmentation rate (18.8% vs. 2.8%), mitochondrial dysfunction rate (24.9% vs. 5.7%), and chromosomal aneuploidy rate (0.12% vs. 0.06%) were found in the oligoasthenoteratozoospermic patients in comparison with the normozoospermic patients. Conclusions: The result indicates that spermatozoa from oligoasthenoteratozoospermic patients contain greater DNA fragmentation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and chromosomal aneuploidy. Because extremely poor semen samples are the indication for ICSI treatment, the result indicates the importance of selecting good quality sperm for oocyte injection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background The aim of this study was to determine the actual state of the photosynthetic apparatus and exhibit distinguishable differences in the chlorophyll fluorescence (ChlF) components in different seedling ages of M. oiwakensis plants subjected to different light intensity (LI). Potted 6-month-old greenhouse seedlings and field collected 2.4-year-old seedlings with 5 cm heights were selected and randomly separated into seven groups for photosynthesis measurements illuminated with 50, 100 (assigned as low LI), 300, 500, 1,000 (as moderate LI), 1,500 and 2,000 (as high LI) μmol m–2 s–1 photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) treatments. Results n 6-month-old seedlings, as LI increased from 50 to 2,000 PPFD, the values of non-photochemical quenching and photo-inhibitory quenching (qI) increased but potential quantum efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) and photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (ΦPSII) values decreased. High electron transport rate and percentage of actual PSII efficiency by Fv/Fm values were observed in 2.4-year-old seedlings at high LI conditions. Furthermore, higher ΦPSII was detected under low LI conditions, with lower energy-dependent quenching (qE) and qI values and photo-inhibition % decreased as well. However, qE and qI increased as ΦPSII decreased and photo-inhibition% increased under high LI treatments. Conclusions These results could be useful for predicting the changes in growth and distribution of Mahonia species grown in controlled environments and open fields with various combinations of varying light illuminations, and ecological monitoring of their restoration and habitat creation is important for provenance conservation and helps to formulate better conservation strategies for the seedlings.

Convolvulaceae, the morning glories or bindweeds, is a large family containing species of economic value, including crops, traditional medicines, ornamentals, and vegetables. However, not only are the phylogenetic relationships within this group still debated at the intertribal and intergeneric levels, but also plastid genome (plastome) complexity within Convolvulaceae is not well surveyed. We gathered 78 plastomes representing 17 genera across nine of the 12 Convolvulaceae tribes. Our plastid phylogenomic trees confirm the monophyly of Convolvulaceae, place the genus Jacquemontia within the subfamily Dicranostyloideae, and suggest that the tribe Merremieae is paraphyletic. In contrast, positions of the two genera Cuscuta and Erycibe are uncertain as the bootstrap support of the branches leading to them is moderate to weak. We show that nucleotide substitution rates are extremely variable among Convolvulaceae taxa and likely responsible for the topological uncertainty. Numerous plastomic rearrangements are detected in Convolvulaceae, including inversions, duplications, contraction and expansion of inverted repeats (IRs), and losses of genes and introns. Moreover, integrated foreign DNA of mitochondrial origin was found in the Jacquemontia plastome, adding a rare example of gene transfer from mitochondria to plastids in angiosperms. In the IR of Dichondra, we discovered an extra copy of rpl16 containing a direct repeat of ca. 200 bp long. This repeat was experimentally demonstrated to trigger effective homologous recombination, resulting in the coexistence of intron-containing and -lacking rpl16 duplicates. Therefore, we propose a hypothetical model to interpret intron loss accompanied by invasion of direct repeats at appropriate positions. Our model complements the intron loss model driven by retroprocessing when genes have lost introns but contain abundant RNA editing sites adjacent to former splicing sites.

Sod culture (SC) and no tillage (NT) are modern orchard management systems, and are two different bases for the sustainable development and production of citrus orchards in Taiwan. However, there is no information about the efficiency of either NT or SC on the photosynthetic physiology of farmed citrus under different seasons and varying light intensities. The objective of this study was to clarify the impacts of SC and NT under eco-friendly farming management on the photosynthetic apparatus of an important plantation citrus species in response to varying light intensities over the seasons. The results showed that Rd (dark respiration rate of CO2), Qy (light quantum yield of CO2), LCP (light compensation point), Amax (maximum net assimilation of CO2), and Fv/Fm values of citrus plants under SC were somewhat higher under NT in the same season, particularly in the fall and in winter. As light intensity increased from 200 to 2000 μmol photon m−2 s−1 PPFD, higher Pn (net photosynthesis rate), Gs (stomatal conductance), ETR (electron transport rate), NPQ (non-photochemical quenching), and Fv/Fm (potential quantum efficiency of PSII) values were observed in spring and summer compared to the fall and winter, and increasing NPQ and decreasing Fv/Fm values were observed in all seasons. Positive and significant correlations were shown between the Pn and Gs under NT and SC in all seasons with all light illuminations, whereas significant and negative relationships were observed between the ETR and NPQ under NT in fall and winter at 1200~2000 PPFD. In short, ETR was useful for non-destructive estimations of Pn and NPQ since these indices were significantly and positively correlated with ETR in citrus leaves exposed to 0~1200 PPFD in all seasons and 1200~2000 PPFD in spring, the fall, and winter, providing a quick means to identify the physiological condition of plants under various seasons and tillages. The precise management of photosynthetic parameters such as ETR in response to light irradiances under varied seasons also provides implications for sustainable citrus production for tillage cropping systems in future higher CO2 and potentially wetter or drier environments. The tillages may hold promise for maximizing the economic efficiency of the growth and development of citrus plants grown in the field.
