This article is focused on the analysis of major approaches to plant invasion research used by Russian researchers. They fall within three main groups: 1. Conventional approaches to floristic analysis based on the Russian scientific tradition of floristic research, 2. Approaches focused on the study of the fraction of invasive flora, making blacklists and regional Black books, 3. New comprehensive approaches based on a synthesis of methods used in botany, geo-information technology and population genetics. Multivariate statistical methods allow for the visualization of various data, including those on alien species group structures in various regions. They make it possible to identify boundaries of ecological niches occupied by plants in respect to climate-and-environmental or ecological variables. An assessment of current statistical interdependence between alien plant characteristics and scores of factors limiting their dissemination facilitates the making of predictive models of plant invasion. Examples of multivariate statistical methods used in invasion biology were analyzed, along with different approaches to the study of the variability of alien species. Alien and invasive fractions of the flora of the Trans-Siberian Railway were analyzed not by administrative units but by natural biomes. This approach allowed us to assess the correlation between the number of invasive species with different natural-climatic and floristic characteristics of biomes. The publication of "Black Books" of various administrative subjects of Russia according to a unified methodology allowed us to make an inventory of invasive species over the vast territory of the country. The experience gained by Russian researchers may be further used for developing universal approaches to plant invasion research.

Mass-spectrometry-based assays nowadays play an essential role in biomedical research and clinical applications. There are different types of commercial mass spectrometers on the market today, and triple quadrupole (QqQ) is one of the time-honored systems. Here, we overview the main areas of QqQ applications in biomedicine and assess the current level, evolution, and trends in the use of QqQ in these areas. Relevant data were extracted from the Scopus database using the specified terms and Boolean operators defined for each field of the QqQ application. We also discuss the recent advances in QqQ and QqQ-based analytical platforms, which promote the clinical application of these systems, and explain the indicated substantial increase in triple quadrupole use in biomedicine. The number of biomedical studies utilizing QqQ increased 2–3 times this decade. Triple quadrupole is most intensively used in the field of endocrine research and testing. On the contrary, the relative rate of immunoassay utilization—a major competitor of chromatography–mass spectrometry—decreased in this area as well as its use within Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and forensic toxicology. Nowadays, the applications of high-resolution accurate mass (HRAM) mass spectrometers in the investigated areas represent only a small fraction of the total amount of research using mass spectrometry; however, their application substantially increased during the last decade in the untargeted search for new biomarkers. Two π‐extended derivatives of boron‐dipyrromethene (BODIPY) – unsymmetrical benzo[b]‐fused BODIPY 1 and symmetrical naptho[b]‐fused BODIPY 2 – were synthesized. Spectroscopic and photophysical properties of the synthesized fluorescent dyes were investigated in various organic media. Both BODIPY 1 and BODIPY 2 distinguished by bathochromically shifted absorption and emission bands compared to their non‐fused derivatives, while possessing green (526–543 nm) and red (664–708 nm) absorbance and fluorescence, respectively. Spectral characteristics of the investigated fluorescent dyes were found to be weakly depended on solvent polarizability in case of BODIPY 1 and greatly influenced by both solvent polarizability and dipolarity in case of BODIPY 2. Quantum chemical calculations were used to clarify the relationships between geometry/electronic structure and spectral properties/solvatochromic behavior of BODIPY 1 and BODIPY 2. Background and Objectives Materials and Methods Results Conclusion Di (2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) plasticizer must be removed from polyvinylchloride (PVC) medical devices due to toxicity. DEHP/PVC blood bags were shown to provide stable quality under blood component production and to create good storage conditions for red blood cells concentrate (RBC). It is important that substitution of the DEHP maintains the RBC quality during storage, which should be achieved with Di (isononyl) cyclohexane‐1,2‐dicarboxylate (DINCH), although substitution of the plasticizer has been challenging.A DEHP‐free Top & Bottom in‐line RBC set was validated in a tertiary hospital blood bank facility. Volunteer blood donors were randomly allocated for blood collection into DINCH/PVC or DEHP/PVC set. The groups were additionally divided according to additive solution/filter combination: PAGGS‐M + DINCH/PVC filter (only with DINCH/PVC set), and SAG‐M + DINCH/PVC filter and SAG‐M + DEHP/PVC filter (only with DEHP/PVC set). Processing and storage effects were assessed in all components.RBC concentrates, platelet concentrates and plasma that was processed and stored in DEHP‐free set fulfilled European requirements for quality. The cells stored in PAGGS‐M after filtration through DEHP‐free PVC filter showed the same low haemolysis compared with conventional set at 49 days of storage. Platelets stored in DINCH/PVC bag provided a sufficient quality of platelets after 7 days of storage. Plasma maintained the coagulation factors during 12 months of storage.A new DINCH/PVC set allows production of blood components of satisfactory quality in DEHP‐free environment. Research support services at The University of Queensland Library (UQ Library) have evolved in response to the global and national drivers, which have impacted on broader University strategy. UQ Library's success in responding to these drivers has involved leveraging the information within, and capacity of, the institutional repository, the core of our research support services. UQ Library is a critical enabler of the University's research mission, actively partnering with researchers throughout the research lifecycle. The evolution of these services has required a shifting staffing framework, combining a traditional liaison library model with functional teams to deliver agile services, which add strategic value to the University. This article explores how functional teams, collaborating with traditional liaison librarian roles, deliver innovative services, how these services are linked by the institutional repository, and how we address key challenges of this service model.

According to the World Health Organization, ischemic stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world. Frequently, it is caused by brachiocephalic artery (BCA) atherosclerosis. Timely detection of atherosclerosis and its unstable course can allow for a timely response to potentially dangerous changes and reduce the risk of vascular complications. Omics technologies allow us to identify new biomarkers that we can use in diagnosing diseases. This research included 90 blood plasma samples. The study group comprised 52 patients with severe atherosclerotic lesions BCA, and the control group comprised 38 patients with no BCA atherosclerosis. Targeted and panoramic lipidomic profiling of their blood plasma was carried out. There was a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in the values of the indices saturated fatty acids (FAs), unsaturated FAs, monounsaturated FAs, omega-3, and omega-6. Based on the results on the blood plasma lipidome, we formed models that have a fairly good ability to determine atherosclerotic lesions of the brachiocephalic arteries, as well as a model for identifying unstable atherosclerotic plaques. According only to the panoramic lipidome data, divided into groups according to stable and unstable atherosclerotic plaques, a significant difference was taken into account: p value < 0.05 and abs (fold change) > 2. Unfortunately, we did not observe significant differences according to the established plasma panoramic lipidome criteria between patients with stable and unstable plaques. Omics technologies allow us to obtain data about any changes in the body. According to our data, statistically significant differences in lipidomic profiling were obtained when comparing groups with or without BCA atherosclerosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this work was to study the ability of 28-homobrassinolide (HBL) and 28-homocastasterone (HCS) to increase the resistance of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) plants to drought and to alter their endogenous brassinosteroid status. Germinated barley seeds were treated with 0.1 nM HBL or HCS solutions for two hours. A water deficit was created by stopping the watering of 7-day-old plants for the next two weeks. Plants responded to drought through growth inhibition, impaired water status, increased lipid peroxidation, differential effects on antioxidant enzymes, intense proline accumulation, altered expression of genes involved in metabolism, and decreased endogenous contents of hormones (28-homobrassinolide, B-ketones, and B-lactones). Pretreatment of plants with HBL reduced the inhibitory effect of drought on fresh and dry biomass accumulation and relative water content, whereas HCS partially reversed the negative effect of drought on fresh biomass accumulation, reduced the intensity of lipid peroxidation, and increased the osmotic potential. Compared with drought stress alone, pretreatment of plants with HCS or HBL followed by drought increased superoxide dismutase activity sevenfold or threefold and catalase activity (by 36%). The short-term action of HBL and HCS in subsequent drought conditions partially restored the endogenous B-ketone and B-lactone contents. Thus, the steroidal phytohormones HBL and HCS increased barley plant resistance to subsequent drought, showing some specificity of action. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inflammatory bowel diseases are extremely common throughout the world. However, in most cases, it is asymptomatic at the initial stage. Therefore, it is important to develop non-invasive diagnostic methods that allow identification of the IBD risks in a timely manner. It is well known that gastrointestinal microbiota secrete volatile compounds (VOCs) and their composition may change in IBD. We propose a non-invasive method to identify the dynamics of IBD development in the acute and remission stage at the level of VOCs in model of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) with chemically induced colitis measured by headspace GC/MS (HS GC/MS). Methods: VOCs profile was identified using a headspace GC/MS (HS GC/MS). GC/MS data were processed using MetaboAnalyst 5.0 and GraphPad Prism 8.0.1 software. The disease activity index (DAI) and histological method were used to assess intestinal inflammation. The peak of intestinal inflammation activity was reached on day 7, according to the disease activity index. Histological examination data showed changes in the intestine due to different stages of inflammation. As the acute inflammation stage was reached, the metabolomic profile also underwent changes, especially at the short-fatty acids level. A higher relative amounts of acetic acid (p value < 0.025) and lower relative amounts of propanoic acid (p value < 0.0005), butanoic acid (p value < 0.005) and phenol 4-methyl- (p value = 0.053) were observed in DSS7 group on day 7 compared to the control group. In remission stage, disease activity indexes decreased, and the histological picture also improved. But metabolome changes continued despite the withdrawal of the DSS examination. A lower relative amounts of propanoic acid (p value < 0.025), butanoic acid (p value < 0.0005), pentanoic acid (p value < 0.0005), and a significant de-crease of hexanoic acid (p value < 0.0005) relative amounts were observed in the DSS14 group compared to the control group on day 14. A model of DSS-induced colitis in rats was successfully implemented for metabolomic assessment of different stages of inflammation. We demonstrated that the ratios of volatile compounds change in response to DSS before the appearance of standard signs of inflammation, determined by DAI and histological examination. Changes in the volatile metabolome persisted even after visual intestine repair and it confirms the high sensitivity of the microbiota to the damaging effects of DSS. One of the primary challenges regarding chronic kidney disease (CKD) diagnosis is the absence of reliable methods to detect early-stage kidney damage. A metabolomic approach is expected to broaden the current diagnostic modalities by enabling timely detection and making the prognosis more accurate. Analysis performed on urine has several advantages, such as the ease of collection using noninvasive methods and its lower protein and lipid content compared with other bodily fluids. This review highlights current trends in applied analytical methods, major discoveries concerning pathways, and investigated populations in the context of urine metabolomic research for CKD over the past five years. Also, we are presenting approaches, instrument upgrades, and sample preparation modifications that have improved the analytical parameters of methods. The onset of CKD leads to alterations in metabolism that are apparent in the molecular composition of urine. Recent works highlight the prevalence of alterations in the metabolic pathways related to the tricarboxylic acid cycle and amino acids. Including diverse patient cohorts, using numerous analytical techniques with modifications and the appropriate annotation and explanation of the discovered biomarkers will help develop effective diagnostic models for different subtypes of renal injury with clinical applications. For fishery assessment of up-to-date state of three water storage reservoirs in the northern part of the Moscow area, classical methods of hydrobiological and ichthyological investigations were used, as well as echolocation and fish-farming plane-tables for calculation of growth possibilities of fish communities representatives. The low depths (average between 2 and 2.5 m) of the Yakhromskoe and Velevskoe water storage reservoirs create favorable conditions for intensive development of aquatic plants, they show greater similarities of ichthyofauna but the low growth rate, of the bream (Abramis brama) as the main object at the amateurish fishing. The Zhestylevskoe water storage reservoir, having the greatest area and depth (average 6 m depth) and the weed filling less than 5%, shows the bream growth rate higher than that one of the 2 other water bodies. The normative-legal rules of the Russian Federation permit to register officially fish cultural and fishing areas at water storage reservoirs of more than 100 hectare what allows to determine ways of their subsequent stable exploitation. On the example of the Yakhromskoe, Zhestylevskoe and Velevskoe water storage reservoirs , algorithms of reservoirs transference from one state into another one have been given with a view to use them intensively.

Schmeichel (2007) reported that performing an initial task before completing a working memory span task can lower span scores and suggested that the effect was due to depleted cognitive resources. We showed that the detrimental effect of prior tasks depends on a match between the stimuli used in the span task and the preceding task. A task requiring participants to ignore words reduced performance on a subsequent word-based verbal span task but not on an arrow-based spatial span task. Ignoring arrows had the opposite pattern of effects: reducing performance on the spatial span task but not on the word-based span task. Finally, we showed that antisaccade, a nonverbal task that taxes domain-general processes implicated in working memory, did not influence subsequent performance of either a verbal or a spatial span task. Together these results suggest that while span is sensitive to prior tasks, that sensitivity does not stem from depleted resources. (Contains 1 figure, 2 tables and 3 footnotes.)

Addressing the problems of philosophical hermeneutics is determined by the need to reconstruct the theme of love in Russian culture in the first half of the XIX century. Russian romantics in their comprehension of love focused their attention on the spiritual component. For European romanticism, sensual love acquired a sacred meaning. Moreover, the understanding and interpretation of love by German romantic authors gradually turned into gender equality issues, women’s emancipation and liberation. F. Schlegel believed there was no difference between a man’s and a woman’s mission. Each epoch leaves its imprint and offers specific meanings for further generations to understand and interpret. Love is always a driving force for human activity and socialization. This is why our contemporaries should be able to analyze Romantic literature and philosophy which gave birth to the philosophy of love reflecting the cultural specifics and national identity.

Melatonin is among one of the promising agents able to protect agricultural plants from the adverse action of different stressors, including salinity. We aimed to investigate the effects of melatonin priming (0.1, 1.0 and 10 µM) on salt-stressed potato plants (125 mM NaCl), by studying the growth parameters, photochemical activity of photosystem II, water status, ion content and antioxidant system activity. Melatonin as a pleiotropic signaling molecule was found to decrease the negative effect of salt stress on stolon formation, tissue water content and ion status without a significant effect on the expression of Na+/H+-antiporter genes localized on the vacuolar (NHX1 to NHX3) and plasma membrane (SOS1). Melatonin effectively decreases the accumulation of lipid peroxidation products in potato leaves in the whole range of concentrations studied. A melatonin-induced dose-dependent increase in Fv/Fm together with a decrease in uncontrolled non-photochemical dissipation Y(NO) also indicates decreased oxidative damage. The observed protective ability of melatonin was unlikely due to its influence on antioxidant enzymes, since neither SOD nor peroxidase were activated by melatonin. Melatonin exerted positive effects on the accumulation of water-soluble low-molecular-weight antioxidants, proline and flavonoids, which could aid in decreasing oxidative stress. The most consistent positive effect was observed on the accumulation of carotenoids, which are well-known lipophilic antioxidants playing an important role in the protection of photosynthesis from oxidative damage. Finally, it is possible that melatonin accumulated during pretreatment could exert direct antioxidative effects due to the ROS scavenging activity of melatonin molecules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heavy metals and aluminum are among the most significant abiotic factors that reduce the productivity and quality of crops in acidic and contaminated soils. The protective effects of brassinosteroids containing lactone are relatively well-studied under heavy metal stress, but the effects of brassinosteroids containing ketone are almost unstudied. Moreover, there are almost no data in the literature on the protective role of these hormones under polymetallic stress. The aim of our study was to compare the stress-protective effects of lactone-containing (homobrassinolide) and ketone-containing (homocastasterone) brassinosteroids on the barley plant's resistance to polymetallic stress. Barley plants were grown under hydroponic conditions; brassinosteroids, increased concentrations of heavy metals (Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb), and Al were added to the nutrient medium. It was found that homocastasterone was more effective than homobrassinolide in mitigating the negative effects of stress on plant growth. Both brassinosteroids had no significant effect on the antioxidant system of plants. Both homobrassinolide and homocastron equally reduced the accumulation of toxic metals (except for Cd) in plant biomass. Both hormones improved Mg nutrition of plants treated with metal stress, but the positive effect on the content of photosynthetic pigments was observed only for homocastasterone and not for homobrassinolide. In conclusion, the protective effect of homocastasterone was more prominent compared to homobrassinolide, but the biological mechanisms of this difference remain to be elucidated. Schizophrenia is one of the most severe chronic mental disorders that is currently diagnosed and categorized through subjective clinical assessment of complex symptoms. At present, there is a recognized need for an objective, unbiased clinical test for schizophrenia diagnosis at an early stage and categorization of the disease. This can be achieved by assaying low-molecular-weight biomarkers of the disease. Here we give an overview of previously conducted research on the discovery of biomarkers of schizophrenia and focus on the studies implemented with the use of GC-MS and the least invasiveness of biological samples acquisition. The presented data demonstrate that GC-MS is a powerful instrumental platform for investigating dysregulated biochemical pathways implicated in schizophrenia pathogenesis. With this platform, different research groups suggested a number of low molecular weight biomarkers of schizophrenia. However, we recognize an inconsistency between the biomarkers or biomarkers patterns revealed by different groups even in the same matrix. Moreover, despite the importance of the problem, the number of relevant studies is limited. The intensification of the research, as well as the harmonization of the analytical procedures to overcome the observed inconsistencies, can be indicated as future directions in the schizophrenia bio-markers quest. The spherical diffusion that occurs when using ultramicroelectrodes (i.e., electrodes with a characteristic size of 1–10 µm) contributes to a higher mass transfer rate. This leads to equalization of the depletion rates of the near-electrode layer due to the electrochemical reaction and to the supply of the product from the solution depth. This is the reason why, for ultramicroelectrodes, a limiting size of the spherical layer exists in which the concentration gradient is localized (diffusion layer). Thus, a stationary mass transfer mode is achieved, which is expressed in the sigmoidal CV curve's shape. In ultramicroelectrode arrays, when the diffusion hemispheres are separated, a steady-state diffusion is realized. However, with a decrease in the interelectrode distance, which leads to the diffusion spheres intersection, a mixed regime arises, which is not fully time-independent. The resulting voltammogram's shape change can serve as an analytical signal in the study of substances with differing diffusion coefficients, since the diffusion layer growth rate and, consequently, the area of intersection of neighboring spheres, depends on it. This work shows the applicability of voltammetry using ensembles of ultramicroelectrodes operating in the transient mode for the analysis of mixtures of electrochemically active compounds with close electrode reaction parameters, such as exchange currents and electrode potential. Ferrocenemethanol esters are used as an example. The applicability of cyclic voltammetry on the UME array for analysis of mixtures was illustrated by means of finite element modelling. This article empirically substantiates an approach to the diversification of the regional economy of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The authors used data samples for all Russian regions to determine cause-and-effect relationships between the development indicators of the mining, manufacturing, and construction industries. The authors applied regression analysis and the VAR-model to assess the impact of the diversification of the regional economy on the gross regional product regarding the manufacturing, mining, and construction sectors. The obtained results proved the feasibility of diversifying the regional economy for its stable economic development, especially in the long term. Fabrication of the conductive copper structures on the surface of various dielectric materials is quite important in many fields of science. There are a lot of chemical and physical methods and approaches that can be used for this purpose. Recently, we demonstrated the possibility of performing laser-assisted deposition of copper using deep eutectic solvents (DESs). The use of DESs instead of aqueous solutions allowed increasing the deposition rate by more than 100 times. In this work, for the first time, the influence of different chemical parameters, such as nature of deep eutectic solvent and concentration of copper, as well as physical parameters, including the intensity of laser radiation and the scanning speed, on the process of copper deposition was investigated. We experimentally showed and confirmed theoretically that the use of citric and tartaric acids such as DES components provides conditions for the formation of copper micropatterns with predefined characteristics. When studying the dynamics of morbidity and mortality, one should not limit ourselves to analyzing general trends. Interesting information can be obtained from the analysis of deviations in morbidity and mortality from the general dynamics. Comparison of the cases of morbidity or death for adjacent time intervals allows us to find out whether the changes in conditions were for short periods of time and whether the cases of morbidity or death were independent. The article consists of two parts: Study of the probability distribution (CDF) of the difference between two independent observations of the Poisson distribution; Application of the results to analyze the morbidity and mortality trends by day for the new coronavirus infection. For the distribution function of the module of difference between two independent observations of the Poisson distribution, an analytical expression has been obtained that allows to get an exact solution. A program has been created, whose software can be downloaded at http://1mgmu.com/nau/DeltaPoisson/DeltaPoisson.zip. An approximate solution that does not require complex calculations has also been obtained, which can be used for an average of more than 20. If real difference is greater than expected, it may be in the following cases: morbidity or mortality varies considerably during the day. That could happen, for example, if the registered number of morbidity on Saturday and Sunday is less than on weekdays due to the management model of the health system, or if the cases are not independent; for example, due to the active identification of infected people among those who have come into contact with the patient. If the difference is less than expected, it may be due to external limiting factors, such as a shortage of test systems for making a diagnosis, a limited number of pathologists to determine the cause of death, and so on. In the analysis of the actual data for COVID-19 it was found that for Poland and Russia, excluding Moscow, the difference in the number of cases and deaths is greater than expected, while for Moscow--less than expected. This may be due to the information policy--the effort to somehow reassure Moscow's population, which in the spring of 2020 had a high incidence rate of the new coronavirus infection. The article aims to analyze the origins of public diplomacy in the United States and its further development. The main objectives are to identify the main vectors of the US public diplomacy, but also the system of institutions and departments responsible for the development and implementation of public diplomacy programs in the United States. The research is exploratory and its purpose is to trace back the history for a better understanding of the evolution of US public diplomacy. For the preparation of the article, we have used chronological, comparative methods of historical knowledge, classification, and systematization of historical sources and bibliographic material. Results show us that in the first quarter of the 20th century, US public diplomacy was focused on the active involvement in international politics and the rejection of isolationism policy, which was primarily reflected in the departure from the tenets of the Monroe Doctrine and the US’s entry into the First World War, which had a great influence on the development of public diplomacy in the United States as a way of promoting the US interests. Spectroscopic, crystallographic and electrochemical techniques are applied to characterize the thirty [pi]-electron-expanded hemiporphyrazines synthesized by crossover condensation reaction of 2,5-diamino-1,3,4-thiadiazole and the corresponding phthalonitrile or diiminoisoindoline derivatives. Thirty [pi]-electron-expanded hemiporphyrazines are observed to evolve as broadly absorbing light harvesters with excited state energies of around 2.3 eV that are susceptible to facile one-electron reduction and one-electron oxidation reactions.

Due to the wide-spread use of dysphemisms in contemporary speech, the topic of dysphemia has become extremely important. At the same time, research on this issue is clearly not sufficient to cover this phenomenon in full. This study pursued the following goal: to analyze the morphological features of dysphemisms within the framework of artistic discourse. The concept of dysphemism was described, and a classification of dysphemisms in contemporary linguistics was provided. Dysphemisms represented by different parts of speech were analyzed, enabling conclusions to be drawn about the features and frequency of dysphemism use. Background: Alveolar macrophages (AMFs) are critical regulators of lung function, and may participate in graft rejection following lung transplantation. Recent studies in experimental animals suggest that most AMFs are self-maintaining cells of embryonic origin, but knowledge about the ontogeny and life span of human AMFs is scarce.Methods: To follow the origin and longevity of AMFs in patients with lung transplantation for more than 100 weeks, we obtained transbronchial biopsies from 10 gender-mismatched patients with lung transplantation. These were subjected to combined in situ hybridisation for X/Y chromosomes and immunofluorescence staining for macrophage markers. Moreover, development of AMFs in humanised mice reconstituted with CD34+ umbilical cord-derived cells was assessed.Results: The number of donor-derived AMFs was unchanged during the 2 year post-transplantation period. A fraction of the AMFs proliferated locally, demonstrating that at least a subset of human AMFs have the capacity to self-renew. Lungs of humanised mice were found to abundantly contain populations of human AMFs expressing markers compatible with a monocyte origin. Moreover, in patients with lung transplantation we found that recipient monocytes seeded the alveoli early after transplantation, and showed subsequent phenotypical changes consistent with differentiation into proliferating mature AMFs. This resulted in a stable mixed chimerism between donor and recipient AMFs throughout the 2-year period.Conclusions: The finding that human AMFs are maintained in the lung parenchyma for several years indicates that pulmonary macrophage transplantation can be a feasible therapeutic option for patients with diseases caused by dysfunctional AMFs. Moreover, in a lung transplantation setting, long-term persistence of donor AMFs may be important for the development of chronic graft rejection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An alternative method to prepare 1,3-diazido-2-nitro-2-azapropane (DANP), a promising liquid component for high-energy condensed systems, is suggested and involves the following stages: (i) nitration of urea, (ii) condensation of the nitration product with formaldehyde, (iii) acylation (chlorination) of 1,3-dihydroxy-2-nitro-2-azapropane, (iv) chlorination of 1,3-diacetoxy-2-nitro-2-azapropane, and (v) azidation of the dichloro derivative to DANP. This synthesis method is selective and enables isolation of 1,3-diazido-2-nitrazapropane devoid of impurities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
