Post-hoc analysis examined health-related quality of life and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) symptoms in the Asian subgroup of patients in RATIONALE-302 (NCT03430843). Patients were randomized 1:1 to either tislelizumab or investigator-chosen chemotherapy (paclitaxel, docetaxel, or irinotecan). Health-related quality of life was measured using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and the QLQ-OES18. Least-squares mean score changes from baseline to weeks 12 and 18 in health-related quality-of-life scores were assessed using a mixed model for repeated measurements. Reported nominal p-values are for descriptive purposes only. Of the 512 patients, this analysis was conducted in 392 Asian patients (tislelizumab, n = 192; investigator-chosen chemotherapy, n = 200). The tislelizumab arm had stable global health status/quality of life, but fatigue scores worsened in both arms. The change from baseline was similar for physical functioning in both arms at weeks 12 and 18. Eating and dysphagia scores remained stable in the tislelizumab arm. Reflux improved at week 12 in the tislelizumab arm and worsened in the investigator-chosen chemotherapy arm. Overall, the health-related quality of life and ESCC-related symptoms of patients receiving tislelizumab in the Asian subgroup remained stable or improved, while patients receiving investigator-chosen chemotherapy experienced worsening. These results in Asian patients corroborate the findings in the intent-to-treat population, suggesting tislelizumab is a potential new second-line treatment option for patients with advanced or metastatic ESCC. Plants play a very important role in landscape construction. In order to explore whether different living environment will affect people's preference for the structural features of plant organs, this study examined 26 villagers and 33 college students as the participants, and pictures of leaves, flowers and fruits of plants as the stimulus to conduct eye-tracking and EEG detection experiments. We found that eye movement indicators can explain people's visual preferences, but they are unable to find differences in preferences between groups. EEG indicators can make up for this deficiency, which further reveals the difference in psychological and physiological responses between the two groups when viewing stimuli. The final results show that the villagers and the students liked leaves best, preferring aciculiform and leathery leaves; solitary, purple and capitulum flowers; and medium-sized, spathulate, black and pear fruits. In addition, it was found that the overall attention of the villagers when watching stimuli was far lower than that of the students, but the degree of meditation was higher. With regard to eye movement and EEG, the total duration of fixations is highly positively correlated with the number of fixations, and the average pupil size has a weak negative correlation with attention. On the contrary, the average duration of fixations has a weak positive correlation with meditation. Generally speaking, we believe that Photinia×fraseri, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Photinia serratifolia, Koelreuteria bipinnata and Cunninghamia lanceolata are superior landscape building plants in rural areas and on campuses; Pinus thunbergii, Myrica rubra, Camellia japonica and other plants with obvious features and bright colours are also the first choice in rural landscapes; and Yulania biondii, Cercis chinensis, Hibiscus mutabilis and other plants with simple structures are the first choice in campus landscapes. A distributed machine learning platform needs to recruit many heterogeneous worker nodes to finish computation simultaneously. As a result, the overall performance may be degraded due to straggling workers. By introducing redundancy into computation, coded machine learning can effectively improve the runtime performance by recovering the final computation result through the first k (out of the total n) workers who finish computation. While existing studies focus on designing efficient coding schemes, the issue of designing proper incentives to encourage worker participation is still under-explored. This paper studies the platform’s optimal incentive mechanism for motivating proper workers’ participation in coded machine learning, despite the multi-dimensional incomplete information about heterogeneous workers’ computation performances and costs. A key contribution of this work is to summarize workers’ multi-dimensional heterogeneity as a one-dimensional metric, which guides the platform’s efficient selection of workers under incomplete information with a linear computation complexity. Although the exact overall runtime is intractable, we characterize the platform’s (asymptotically) optimal load assignment to heterogeneous workers in coded machine learning. When the platform has incomplete information about workers’ costs, it is optimal to assign loads only based on workers’ computation performances; when the platform further lacks workers’ computation performance information, it is optimal to design the loads to be cost-dependent and performance-dependent. We explored the relationships among adult attachment, self-esteem, and subjective well-being of older people, and the moderating role of self-compassion. Using data obtained from a survey conducted with 308 community-dwelling adults aged from 51 to 79 years in China's Shandong Province, we found that self-esteem mediated the effects of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance on subjective well-being. Furthermore, self-compassion not only moderated the relationship between attachment anxiety and self-esteem, but also moderated the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between attachment anxiety and subjective well-being. The results not only extend understanding of the relationships that exist between adult attachment and subjective well-being, but also have implications for improving the psychological health and well-being of adults in later life. This paper investigates the station-keeping control of autonomous and remotely-operated vehicles (ARVs) for free-floating manipulation under model uncertainties and external disturbances. A modified adaptive generalized super-twisting algorithm (AGSTA) enhanced by adaptive tracking differentiator (ATD) and reduced-order extended state observer (RESO) is proposed. The ATD is used to obtain the smooth reference signal and its derivative. The RESO is used to estimate and compensate for the model uncertainties and external disturbances in real-time, which enhances the robustness of the controller. The modified AGSTA ensures the fast convergence of the system states and maintains them in a predefined neighborhood of origin without overestimating control gains. Besides, the proposed new variable gain strategy completely avoids the control gains vibrating near the set minimum value. Thanks to the RESO, the proposed controller is model-free and can be easily implemented in practice. The stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed based on Lyapunov's direct method in the time domain. Finally, the proposed control scheme is applied to the station-keeping control of Haidou-1 ARV, and the simulation results confirm the superiority of the proposed control scheme over the original AGSTA. A heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification bacterium, strain D51, was identified as Arthrobacter nicotianae based on morphological, phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs), and 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses. Further tests demonstrated that strain D51 had the capability to use nitrite, nitrate, or ammonium as the sole nitrogen source in the presence of Cu2+. The maximum removal efficiencies of nitrite, nitrate and ammonium were 68.97%, 78.32%, and 98.70%, respectively. Additionally, the maximum growth rate and denitrification capacity of this strain occurred in the presence of 0.05 mg·L−1 of Cu2+.However, the growth and aerobic denitrification capacity were intensively inhibited by Cu2+ at ≥0.1 mg·L−1. Moreover, gas chromatography indicated that a portion of the nitrogen was transformed into N2O when the nitrite, nitrate, and ammonium were separately used as the sole nitrogen source. This is the first study of the nitrification and denitrification ability of Arthrobacter nicotianae under aerobic conditions, and the first experiment to investigate the impact of Cu2+ concentration on the growth and denitrification ability of this bacteria. The results presented herein extend the known varieties of heterotrophic nitrifying–aerobic denitrifying bacteria and provide useful information regarding the specific bacteria for nitrogen bioremediation of industrial wastewater containing Cu2+. Background: With the lifting of Zero-COVID policies in China, rapid transmission of the virus has led to new challenges for patients' health anxiety. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between COVID-19 symptoms and health anxiety, as well as the mediation paths between them in individuals infected with COVID-19., Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in December 2022, following the relaxation of anti-COVID measures in China. A validated online questionnaire was used to collect data from COVID-19 patients on the number and severity of symptoms, health anxiety, internet health information-seeking behavior (IHISB), and perceived stigma. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the mediation model in which COVID-19 symptoms would affect health anxiety via IHISB and perceived stigma., Results: Overall, 1,132 participants (women, 67.6%) were included, with a mean (SD) age of 28.12 (10.07) years. Participants had an average of seven COVID-19 symptoms, with cough (91.3%), nasal congestion (89.1%) and fatigue (87.8%) being the most common. The number and severity of COVID-19 symptoms, IHISB, perceived stigma, and health anxiety were positively correlated with each other after adjusting for covariates (r ranging from 0.10 to 0.81, all p  < 0.05). Purpose: Patients with advanced or metastatic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) have poor prognosis. For these patients, treatment options are limited after first-line systemic therapy., Patients and Methods: In this open-label phase III clinical study, patients with advanced or metastatic ESCC, whose tumor progressed after first-line systemic treatment, were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive intravenous tislelizumab, an anti-programmed cell death protein 1 antibody, 200 mg every 3 weeks or chemotherapy (investigator's choice of paclitaxel, docetaxel, or irinotecan). The primary end point was overall survival (OS) in all patients. The key secondary end point was OS in patients with programmed death-ligand 1 tumor area positivity (TAP) score ≥ 10%., Results: In total, 512 patients across 11 countries/regions were randomly assigned. At final analysis, conducted after 410 death events occurred, OS was significantly longer with tislelizumab versus chemotherapy in all patients (median, 8.6 v 6.3 months; hazard ratio [HR], 0.70 [95% CI, 0.57 to 0.85]; one-sided P = .0001), and in patients with TAP ≥ 10% (median, 10.3 months v 6.8 months; HR, 0.54 [95% CI, 0.36 to 0.79]; one-sided P = .0006). Survival benefit was consistently observed across all predefined subgroups, including those defined by baseline TAP score, region, and race. Treatment with tislelizumab was associated with higher objective response rate (20.3% v 9.8%) and a more durable antitumor response (median, 7.1 months v 4.0 months) versus chemotherapy in all patients. Fewer patients experienced ≥ grade 3 treatment-related adverse events (18.8% v 55.8%) with tislelizumab versus chemotherapy., Conclusion: Tislelizumab significantly improved OS compared with chemotherapy as second-line therapy in patients with advanced or metastatic ESCC, with a tolerable safety profile. Patients with programmed death-ligand 1 TAP ≥ 10% also demonstrated statistically significant survival benefit with tislelizumab versus chemotherapy.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of spread through air spaces (STAS) in early lung adenocarcinomas after radical lobectomy and lymphadenectomy., Methods: A total of 242 patients with lung adenocarcinomas less than 4 cm (8th pStage I) were selected from the lung cancer patients surgically treated from January, 2009 to September, 2011. Pathological review focused on STAS as well as histological subtypes, blood vessel & neural invasion, pathological tumor size etc. Recurrence or disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were compared between patients as stratified by STAS and tumor size., Results: STAS was observed in 33.47% (81/242) patients, which was significantly correlated with histological predominant subtype (χ 2 =25.903, P=0.093×10 -3 ) and differentiation grade (χ 2 =23.986, P=0.025×10 -3 ). Patients with STAS (+) showed a comparable PFS (P=0.268) and OS rates (P=0.100) in all stage I cases, but a significant lower PFS (P=0.029) and OS (P=0.013) in tumors within 2< tumors ≤4 cm. Multivariate analysis revealed STAS to be an independent worse prognostic factor in lung adenocarcinomas within 2< tumors ≤4 cm, both for PFS (P=0.004) and OS (P=0.002), while no significant difference was found in patients with tumors ≤2 cm (PFS, P=0.537; OS, P=0.448), after adjusting by other clinicopathological parameters as age, gender, smoking etc., Conclusions: Presence of STAS was a significant worse predictor for pStage I patients with lung adenocarcinoma >2 cm who underwent radical lobectomy, while it is not significant in patients with tumor ≤2 cm. Background: The pathologic stages of lymph nodes usually differ from preoperatively predicted in lung cancers and it is difficult to predict the metastasis of lymph nodes for the patients diagnosed as clinical stage IA non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). This study aimed to investigate the patterns of lymph node metastasis and the risk factors predicting lymph node metastasis in the patients with clinical stage IA NSCLCs., Methods: All patients diagnosed as clinical stage IA NSCLC from July 2013 to June 2017 in our center were retrospectively reviewed, and a total number of 1,543 patients who underwent anatomical lobectomy with systematic lymph node dissection were enrolled in this study. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the risk factors predicting lymph node metastasis, and Fisher's exact test was used to confirm the lymph node spread mode according to the locations of primary tumors., Results: Totally, lymph node metastases presented in 131 patients (8.5%) in this series. Sixty-three patients presented N1 diseases, 17 patients showed only skipped N2 diseases, and 51 patients had simultaneous N1 and N2 positive lymph nodes. No lymph node metastasis was found in the patients with pure ground grass opacity (GGO). When patients were arbitrarily divided into six groups by the longest tumor diameter of ≤0.5, 0.6-1, 1.1-1.5, 1.6-2.0, 2.1-2.5, 2.6-3 cm, the lymph node metastasis rates of each group were 0% (0/20), 1.5% (4/264), 4.7% (20/429), 8.6% (29/336), 13.1% (38/290), 19.6% (40/204), respectively. When the patients with pure GGO were excluded, the lymph node metastasis rates in the patients with partial or total solid tumors were 0% (0/10), 2.4% (4/164), 6.6% (20/303), 11.7% (29/249), 16.0% (38/238) and 23.1% (40/173). The cut off value showed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for tumor size was 1.95 cm, and the area under the curve (AUC) was measured as 0.681 (P<0.001, 95% CI: 0.630-0.726). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that male patients [odds ratio (OR) =3.34, P=0.012], smoking history (OR =14.12, P<0.001), solid components (OR =3.34, P=0.01), large tumor size (OR =1.9, P<0.001), poor differentiation (OR =2.25, P=0.013), lymphovascular invasion (OR =58.45, P<0.001), visceral pleural invasion (OR =48.37, P<0.001) were significantly associated with lymph node metastasis in clinical stage IA NSCLC. The rate of non-lobe specific lymph node metastasis was 15.8-40.0% when any of the lobe specific lymph nodes was positive, while it was only 0-2.2% when all lobe specific lymph nodes were negative., Conclusions: Tumor size, solid components, poor differentiation, lymphovascular invasion, visceral pleural invasion and smoking history were significant factors predicting lymph node metastasis of clinical stage IA NSCLC. Patients with negative lobe-specific lymph node have very low risk of metastasis to the non-lobe specific lymph nodes. Background: Patients with pathological stage I (p I) lung adenocarcinoma show variabilities in prognosis even after complete resection. The factors resulting in heterogeneities of prognosis remain controversy. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors affecting recurrence/metastasis and survival in patients with curatively resected p I lung adenocarcinoma., Methods: A total of 252 patients with p I lung adenocarcinoma underwent curative resection between January 1st, 2009 to September 30th, 2011 were retrospectively reviewed to analyze the associations of recurrence and survival with the following clinicopathological variables: gender, age, cigarette smoking, family cancer history, tumor size, TNM stage, tumor differentiation, visceral pleural invasion, bronchial involvement, lymphovascular invasion, postoperative adjuvant treatment, pathological subtypes and micropapillary pattern., Results: Among those 252 patients, 48 had local recurrence or distant metastasis, the rest 204 patients had no relapse until the last follow-up. Cox univariate survival analysis revealed that tumor size (P<0.001), TNM stage [disease-free survival (DFS), P<0.001; overall survival (OS), P=0.004], tumor differentiation (P<0.001), bronchial involvement (P<0.001), lymphovascular invasion (DFS, P=0.021; OS, P=0.001) and micropapillary pattern (DFS, P<0.001; OS, P=0.003) were significantly associated with DFS and OS, while cigarette smoking (P=0.029) and pathological subtypes (P=0.041) were found to be risk factors for DFS either. In multivariate analysis, tumor differentiation (P<0.001) was an independent risk factor for both DFS and OS, TNM stage (P=0.007), bronchial involvement (P=0.004) and micropapillary pattern (P=0.001) only for DFS, while tumor size (P=0.009) and lymphovascular invasion (P=0.010) were found to be independent risk factors only for OS., Conclusions: Tumor size, TNM stage, tumor differentiation, bronchial involvement, lymphovascular invasion and micropapillary pattern could be considered as risk factors for predicting local recurrence or distant metastasis and survival in curatively resected p I lung adenocarcinoma patients., Competing Interests: Conflicts of Interest: The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare.

Background: It was reported in the literatures that the incidence of anastomotic leakage in patients with esophagogastric junction cancer decreased due to application of staplers and closure devices as well as gastric conduit technique in recent years, however, it increased slightly at our center since widely using the above devices and gastric conduit techniques from 2009. The objective of this study was to summarize our experiences in the management of anastomotic leakages and analyze the factors affecting leakage healing in the patients with esophagogastric junction cancer after surgical resection in recent 6 years., Methods: All patients who received surgical resections for esophagogastric junction cancer and diagnosed anastomotic leak at our center between January 2009 and December 2014 were retrospectively analyzed, we also enrolled the patients who had a longer hospital stay (>30 days) as they may develop anastomotic leak. The binary logistic regression in SPSS 16.0 was applied to analyze the factors that may affect leakage healing., Results: Of the 1,815 surgically treated esophagogastric junction cancer patients, 91 cases were diagnosed anastomotic leakage postoperatively. The patients were divided into two groups based on the median leakage healing time (40 days) in this series: fast healing group (37 cases) and slowly healing group (54 cases). All factors that may affect the leakage healing were put into analysis by using binary logistic regression. The results of the analysis showed that leakage size (OR =1.073, P=0.004), thoracic drainage (OR =12.937, P=0.037) and smoking index ≤400 (OR =1.001, P=0.04) significantly affected the healing time, while drinking history (P=0.177), duration of fever after anastomotic leak developed (P=0.084), and hypoproteinemia after leak (P=0.169) also apparently but not significantly affect the healing time., Conclusions: Though many factors may affect leakage healing in the esophagogastric junction carcinoma patients, leakage size, thoracic drainage and smoking index (≤400) are the most important factors affecting the leakage healing. Placement of a chest tube beside the anastomosis area during operation for early identification and control of an anastomotic leak to minimize contamination of the mediastinum is the most important way to promote leakage healing. A chest tube placing into the purulent cavities after the patients experienced leaks is also important for the cure of leakage.
