Despite the widespread familiarity with her story, the enigmatic underpinnings of her tragedy have perpetually shrouded it in mystery. In an effort to cast light upon the chronicle of her life, a convergence of political and societal truths has emerged. Afife Jale's story, in its very essence, embodies the ideals expounded by Joan W. Scott. The realm of feminist historiography endeavors to bring prominence to women's narratives, elucidating their endeavors to champion their entitlements and autonomy within historical contexts. It seeks to delve into the causalities behind the historical obscurity that has veiled women's contributions, while also revealing the obstructions that have curtailed their authority and efficacy. This article aspires to achieve this objective by scrutinizing the careers of the first Turkish Muslim actresses, Afife Jale (1902–41) and Bedia Muvahhit (1896–1994), who commenced their artistic journeys at the onset of the twentieth century. Whereas Afife Jale's stage debut in 1920 coincided with the twilight of Ottoman rule, Bedia Muvahhit made her inaugural appearance in 1923, the very year that saw the founding of the Turkish Republic. Despite this seemingly minor difference, the professional journeys of these two actresses were characterized by stark disparities. Afife Jale bore the weight of authoritarian oppression and persecution, and her legacy remained largely overlooked, even after the Turkish Republic was founded. Desmoid tumors, also known as desmoid-type fibromatosis (DF), develop from musculoaponeurotic tissues. They are Mesenchymal tumorfibrous tumors of benign character that do not metastasize. However, they can take an aggressive course by showing local growth in the area where they are located. Although they can originate fromany skeletal muscle, they are most commonly seen on the anterior abdominal wall. Various treatment options are available depending on the clinical condition of the patient. We aimed to discuss the diagnosis and treatment of DF with a 55-year-old male patient who has DF and applied to our clinic.

The scale of international migration is growing day by day, and the issue of refugees constitutes a significant agenda item for all countries. In today's digital age, characterized by technological advancements, refugees are also benefiting from the advantages of technology. With various applications downloaded to their mobile phones, refugees can directly access all kinds of information about the countries they are heading to and even communicate with each other to share experiences. This study explores how mobile phone applications can be developed to serve the refugees in the familiarizing themselves with the receiving culture. In the study, a total of 10 applications prepared for refugees on Android and iOS platforms, selected by random sampling and purposeful sampling methods, were examined. These applications were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method. As a result, when the applications developed in host countries were examined, it was observed that the most needed basic information for refugees, such as housing, education, finding a job, health, language, daily words, legal documents, rules, and fundamental rights, was provided. Additionally, in the 10 refugee applications examined, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) were used as locative media for mapping locations. Location-based data and maps that show where refugees are located are extremely important for them. These maps are believed to help reduce stress, make them feel safe, and facilitate the adaptation process by showing refugees the nearest shelters, dining places, hospitals, transportation, and asylum locations.

Social media platforms have become powerful tools for advocating rights and pursuing justice by mobilizing virtual “crowds”. In Türkiye, where confidence in the justice system has declined, social media has emerged as an alternative means to seek justice. Social media activism is frequently employed in response to femicides, encompassing various communication and legal aspects. This article aims to investigate how social media is utilized in the fight against femicide in Türkiye. Does seeking justice through social media truly influence court decisions? Do users adhere to democratic principles and freedom of expression while engaging in social media activism? What are the positive and negative effects? Additionally, what legal challenges arise from the use of social media? These are the questions explored in this study. Instances such as the release of perpetrators of violence against women, protracted legal processes, or defendants benefiting from lenient sentences deeply disturb public conscience, erode confidence in the justice system, and propel social media activism, which spreads rapidly among the masses. To examine the legal aspects of the issue, in-depth interviews were conducted with fifteen lawyers. The findings reveal that social media posts seeking justice for femicides have a significant impact on large audiences. The study demonstrates that social media serves as a mechanism of social pressure accelerating the process of justice and plays a crucial role in the pursuit of justice. Nevertheless, it also highlights the potential legal risks associated with social media activism.

Yalnızlık, günümüz toplumunun en yaygın sağlık sorunlarından biridir. Kaynaklandığı nedene veya bireyde ortaya çıkan belirtilere bağlı olarak farklı şekillerde ele alınan yalnızlık, çalışma kapsamında duygusal yalnızlık özelinde irdelenmiştir. Duygusal yalnızlık ile başa çıkmak adına bir sohbet botunun (Chatgpt) kullanılmasına yönelik katılımcıların tutumlarının incelendiği çalışma olgubilim araştırma desenine sahiptir. İstanbul’da bir vakıf üniversitesinin İletişim Fakültesi öğrencilerinin örneklem olarak seçildiği araştırmada, nitel veri toplama aracı olan derinlemesine görüşme vasıtasıyla toplanan veriler içerik analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Katılımcıların, olumlu tutumları ve güçlü antropomorfize etme reflekslerinin aksine Chatgpt’nin yalnızlıkla mücadele etme aracı olarak kullanımına temkinli yaklaştıkları anlaşılmıştır. Katılımcıların büyük çoğunluğu Chatgpt ve teknolojik araçların duygusal ve sosyal ihtiyaçları karşılamasına yönelik olumsuz bir yargıya sahiptir. Buna karşın katılımcıların büyük bir çoğunluğu yakın bir gelecekte Chatgpt ve benzeri araçların sosyalleşme amacıyla kullanılmasının yaygınlaşacağına inanmaktadır. Yapay zekâ teknolojilerinin duygusal ihtiyaçları karşılama yeteneğine yönelik güvensizlik ve duygusal ihtiyaçları karşılaması halinde sosyo-kültürel hayata verebileceği zararlar merkezinde ağırlık kazanan endişelerin bir diğer ortak teması ise etik sorunlardır. Ayrıca katılımcıların endişelerini aktarırken popüler kültürde yer alan (film, dizi ve oyun vb.) yapay zekâ temsillerini işaret ettiği görülmektedir.

Objective:Preeclampsia is one of the primary reasons for maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Maternal and fetal complications can be prevented by early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of preeclampsia. This study aimed to determine the clinical diagnostic value of serum calcium (Ca) levels and urinary calcium/creatinine (Ca/cr) ratio in preeclampsia.Method:A retrospective study was conducted on a sample population of 183 pregnant patients diagnosed with preeclampsia who delivered singleton babies at the Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Health Sciences Turkey, Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, İstanbul, Turkey, between January 2010 and January 2012. The patients were divided into two groups. Group 1: Preeclampsia; group 2: Preeclampsia with severe features. Serum Ca levels and urinary Ca/cr ratios of the patients were evaluated and compared.Results:Hypocalcemia rates were higher in group 2 (93%) than in group 1 (58%). There was a statistically significant difference between the distribution of patients in the two groups according to serum Ca levels (28.339; 1; p=0.0001). Abstract Prostate cancer is a common type of malignancy in male population. It may present with various clinical findings including urinary retention. Here, we present a prostate cancer case in an elderly man who investigated for the origin of long‐term fever and weight loss. A 69‐year‐old man presented to our institution for a fever lasting more than a month. He had no other signs of infection. He lost about 15 kg within 3 months. Total prostate‐specific antigen (PSA) measurement in serum and prostate biopsy revealed advanced prostate cancer. His complaints diminished with prostate cancer treatment. In conclusion, we suggest that prostate cancer should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of fever and weight loss in men over 50 years of age whether he is symptomatic or not.

There are many natural growth area in Turkey and utilizability is increasingly in different areas. Berry fruits involve several species such as grape (Vitis spp.), currant (Ribes spp.), rosehip (Rosa spp.), strawberry (Fragaria spp.), raspberry (Rubus spp.), pomegranate (Punica spp.), blackberry (Rubus spp.), bilberry (Vaccinium spp.), mulberry (Morus spp.) and cornelian cherry (Cornus spp.). Berries are soft fruits that turn from red to blue or black. They contain a good source of vitamins and minerals, and they have various phytochemical compositions that relevant to consumer health. Different varieties of berries contain quite variable concentrations of ascorbic acid, folic acid, anthocyanin, flavonol, ellagitannins and many diversity of hydroxybenzoic acid. Berries have antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal and anticarcinogenic properties due to rich content of phytochemical. In this study, Antifungal effect of ethanol extracts obtained from strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, blackberry, bilberry, mulberry and cornelian cherry against 7 different subspecies of Penicillium, 6 different subspecies of Aspergillus and Mucor racemosus, Botrytis cinerea, Geotrichum candidum, Cladosporium claudosporioides, Rhizopus nigricans species were determined by using disk diffusion method. As a result of the research; It was determined that 9 different samples had antifungal effect on 18 different mold species at various rate. The highest antifungal effect was observed with 24.65 milimeter zone diameter against Mucor racemosus in pomegranate peel extract. This value was followed by blackberry extract against Penicillium glaucum and Penicillium chrysogenum with 20.54 and 20.03 milimeter zone diameter, respectively. It was concluded that the lowest antifungal effect on mold species apart from Aspergillus flavus in blue bilberry extract.

Vegetables; in terms of vitamins, nutritional fiber, phenolic component and mineral matter has an important role in human nutrition. There are many species of purple-red vegetables, some of which are well-known, such as red beet (Beta vulgaris), black carrot (Daucus carota ssp. sativus var. atrorubens Alef), black radish (Raphanus sativus L. var. niger), purple cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata f. rubra). Purple or red vegetables have higher antioxidant potential compared to other vegetables, which have many beneficial properties such as antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and liver protection. Each of vegetables which is black carrot, beetroot, black radish and purple cabbage contains p-coumaric acid, betaxanthin, ellagic acid and indole-3-carbinol respectively. In this study, Antifungal effect of ethanol extracts obtained from red beet, black carrot, black radish which are inner and peel part, purple cabbage against 7 different subspecies of Penicillium, 6 different subspecies of Aspergillus and Mucor racemosus, Botrytis cinerea, Geotrichum candidum, Cladosporium claudosporioides, Rhizopus nigricans species were determined by using disk diffusion method. As a consequence; it was determined that 7 different samples had antifungal effect on 18 different mold species at various rate. The highest antifungal effect was observed with 23.05±0.05 mm zone diameter against A. fumigatus in black radish inner part ethanol extract. This value was pursued by red beet inner part ethanol extract against M. racemosus with 21.44±0.12 mm zone diameter. It was concluded that the lowest antifungal effect on mold species except for P. citrinum, P. solitum and B. cinerea in purple cabbage extract.

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.), based on the origin of Southeast Asia and Turkey, with a large growth area such as the Mediterranean and the Arab countries, is the most important plant belonging to family Lythraceae. Pomegranate peel and seed contain numerous and various bioflavonoid, which is indicated to be both antimicrobial and inhibitors of enzymes such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. The antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties of the pomegranate are related to phytochemicals such as delphinidin, cyanidin, pelargonidin, ellagic acid, punicalin, punicalagin, pedunculagin, and different glucosides, which involve anthocyanins. In this study, it was investigated that ethanol, methanol and distilled water extracts, obtained from Punica granatum L. antimicrobial effect against Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Salmonella Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria known as food pathogen by using disk diffusion method. Also, minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values on seven different food borne pathogens were also determined. As a result of the research; pomegranate seed extracts obtained from methanol observed the highest antimicrobial effect against Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a 29.02 mm zone diameter, while pomegranate peel extracts obtained from ethanol observed the highest antimicrobial effect against Bacillus cereus with a 26.84 mm zone diameter. The MIC and MBC value against Pseudomonas aeruginosa are determined 7.81 µg/L, while The MIC and MBC value against Bacillus cereus are determined 31.25 and 15.63 µg/L, respectively.

Experiência: Objetivamos investigar os efeitos de metoclopramida e ondansetrona no bloqueio neuromuscular por mivacúrio. Métodos: Foram incluídos no estudo 75 pacientes ASA I-II, com idades entre 18 e 65 anos e agendados para cirurgia eletiva necessitando de intubação traqueal. Os pacientes receberam metoclopramida 10 mg, ondansetrona 4 mg ou salina normal 5 mL; grupo M, grupo O e grupo SN (n = 25) respectivamente. Antes da anestesia, os medicamentos em estudo foram administrados em um volume de 5 mL. O nível de colinesterase plasmática foram obtidos antes e 5 minutos depois da administração dos medicamentos em estudo e 5 minutos depois da administração de mivacúrio. Os tempos até o início e os níveis T25, T75, T25-75 e T90 foram comparados entre si, tendo sido investigadas as diferenças entre cada paciente. Depois de registrar T90, o estudo foi terminado, tendo início a cirurgia. Resultados: O tempo até o início foi significativamente mais breve no Grupo M versus os outros dois grupos. O tempo até o início no Grupo O foi significativamente mais breve versus grupo SN. No grupo M, T25, T75, T90 e os índices de recuperação foram significativamente maiores versus Grupo NS (p < 0,001). No Grupo O, T25 e T75 foram maiores versus Grupo NS (p < 0,01 e p < 0,05,respectivamente). No Grupo M, T75, T90 e índices de retorno da anestesia foram significativamente maiores versus Grupo O (p < 0,001, p < 0,01, p < 0,001, respectivamente). Nos Grupos M e O, os níveis plasmáticos de colinesterase diminuíram significativamente (p < 0,001). Depois da administração dos medicamentos em estudo e de mivacúrio. Houve também redução na colinesterase plasmática no Grupo NS 5 minutos após a administração de mivacúrio (p < 0,001). Conclusão: Consideramos que ondansetrona seja agente mais confiável do que metoclopramida, quando utilizada com mivacúrio.

Background: We aimed to investigate the effects of metoclopramide and ondansetrone on mivacurium neuromuscular blockade. Methods: Seventy five, ASA I-II patients, aged 18-65 and scheduled for elective surgery requiring tracheal intubation were included in the study. The patients received metoclopramide 10 mg, ondansetrone 4 mg or normal saline 5 mL; group M, group O, group NS (n = 25), respectively. Before anesthesia study drugs were administered in a volume of 5 mL. The level of plasma cholinesterase were obtained before and 5 minutes after the administration of study drugs and 5 minutes after the administration of mivacurium. Onset time, T25, T75, T25-75, T90 levels were compared with each other and differences between each patients were investigated. After recording T90, the study was terminated and surgery was started. Results: Onset time was significantly shorter in group M, than the other two groups. Onset time in group O was significantly shorter than in group NS. Creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship are slogans that have become an integral part of modern tourism economy. Creativity and innovation of tourism economy as well as the meaning of creativity in tourism business are intensely discussed. Today, creativity is being frequently analyzed as a basic feature of actions performed on a daily basis in terms of both personal and professional life, a feature that every employee is required to possess. It means that employers and, above all, the education system must feel it necessary to develop certain conditions in which human creativity can be shaped, which is understood as a system that enables us to adjust to constantly changing environment and take a risk to apply new solutions to particular problems. The article aims to present the role of creativity in development of innovation in tourism as well as factors that improve it. The analytical part of the article will concentrate on the analysis of, inter alia, two significant groups of creativity determinants: factors related to availability of qualified staff on the local labor market as well as info-structure of tourism businesses.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of two different spinal isobaric levobupivacaine doses on spinal anesthesia characteristics and to find the minimum effective dose for surgery in patients undergoing transurethral resection (TUR) surgery.Materials and Methods: Fifty male patients undergoing TUR surgery were included in the study and were randomized into two equal groups: Group LB10 (n=25): 10 mg 0.5% isobaric levobupivacaine (2 ml) and Group LB15 (n=25): 15 mg 0.75% isobaric levobupivacaine (2 ml). Spinal anesthesia was administered via a 25G Quincke spinal needle through the L3-4 intervertebral space. Sensorial block levels were evaluated using the ‘pin-prick test’, and motor block levels were evaluated using the ‘Bromage scale’. The sensorial and motor block characteristics of patients during intraoperative and postoperative periods and recovery time from spinal anesthesia were evaluated.Results: In three cases in the Group LB10, sensorial block did not reach the T10 level. Complete motor block (Bromage=3) did not occur in eight cases in the Group LB10 and in five cases in the Group LB15. The highest sensorial dermatomal level detected was higher in Group LB15. In Group LB15, sensorial block initial time and the time of complete motor block occurrence were significantly shorter than Group LB10. Hypotension was observed in one case in Group LB15. No significant difference between groups was detected in two segments of regression times: the time to S2 regression and complete sensorial block regression time. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this prospective, randomized study was to evaluate the hemodynamic and analgesic effects of ketamine by comparing it with propofol starting at the induction of anesthesia until the end of sternotomy in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. INTRODUCTION: Anesthetic induction and maintenance may induce myocardial ischemia in patients with coronary artery disease. A primary goal in the anesthesia of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery is both the attenuation of sympathetic responses to noxious stimuli and the prevention of hypotension. METHODS: Thirty patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery were randomized to receive either ketamine 2 mg.kg-1 (Group K) or propofol 0.5 mg.kg-1 (Group P) during induction of anesthesia. Patients also received standardized doses of midazolam, fentanyl, and rocuronium in the induction sequence. The duration of anesthesia from induction to skin incision and sternotomy, as well as the supplemental doses of fentanyl and sevoflurane, were recorded. Heart rate, mean arterial pressure, central venous pressure, pulmonary arterial pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, cardiac index, systemic and pulmonary vascular resistance indices, stroke work index, and left and right ventricular stroke work indices were obtained before induction of anesthesia; one minute after induction; one, three, five, and ten minutes after intubation; one minute after skin incision; and at one minute after sternotomy. RESULTS: There were significant changes in the measured and calculated hemodynamic variables when compared to their values before induction. Objective and Importance. We present the rare occurrence of multiple dural-based tuberculomas mimicking leptomeningeal carcinomatosis in a young immunocompetent patient. Clinical Presentation. A 36-year-old man presented with a 2-month history of generalized epileptic activity and altered perception. Neurological examination was remarkable for bilateral Babinski's sign. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed multiple dural-based enhancing lesions with cerebral edema. Intervention. A right frontal craniotomy was performed for diagnosis. Histological examination revealed multiple confluent necrotizing and nonnecrotizing granulomas with giant cells which was consistent with tuberculosis (TB), and the patient was placed on anti-TB therapy for 24 months. Conclusion. To the best of our knowledge isolated diffuse involvement of the dura mater by TB, mimicking leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, as the sole manifestation of disease has not been reported before. Since pachymeningeal TB is rarely suspected when atypical radiological appearance is combined with the absence of systemic disease, biopsy is inevitably required for diagnosis.
