We evolve the Schrödinger-Poisson system of equations for axisymmetric non-rotating scalar field initial configurations. It is shown that for that kind of initial data, spherically symmetric equilibrium configurations are late-time atrractors which are reached through the emission of scalar field bursts. These results are relevant within the structure formation mechanism of the scalar field dark matter model or any of the Bose condensate approaches to the dark matter problem, because we show the natural tendency of scalar field configurations to become spherical. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
