The inverse S-transform of manipulated spectra not necessarily transforms the localized signals as expected from the imposed weighting is illustrated. The problem is discussed and a new inverse S-transform is suggested which might be helpful to many applications to take more advantage of the time-frequency localization, as this approach avoids the time averaging and is based on the individual consideration of each local spectrum as function of time.

Erosion of plasma-facing materials and successive transport and redeposition of eroded material are crucial processes determining the lifetime of plasma-facing components and the trapped tritium inventory in redeposited material layers. Erosion and deposition in the JET divertor were studied during the second JET ITER-like wall campaign ILW-2 in 2013-2014 by using a poloidal row of specially prepared divertor marker tiles including the tungsten bulk tile 5. The marker tiles were analyzed using elastic backscattering with 3-4.5 MeV incident protons and nuclear reaction analysis using 0.8-4.5 MeV 3He ions before and after the campaign. The erosion/deposition pattern observed during ILW-2 is qualitatively comparable to the first campaign ILW-1 in 2011-2012: deposits consist mainly of beryllium with 5-20 at.% of carbon and oxygen and small amounts of Ni and W. The highest deposition with deposited layer thicknesses up to 30 μm per campaign is still observed on the upper and horizontal parts of the inner divertor. Outer divertor tiles 5, 6, 7 and 8 are net W erosion areas. The observed D inventory is roughly comparable to the inventory observed during ILW-1. The results obtained during ILW-2 therefore confirm the positive results observed in ILW-1 with respect to reduced material deposition and hydrogen isotopes retention in the divertor.

Post mortem analyses of JET ITER-Like-Wall tiles and passive diagnostics have been completed after each of the first two campaigns (ILW-1 and ILW-2). They show that the global fuel inventory is still dominated by co-deposition; hence plasma parameters and sputtering processes affecting material migration influence the distribution of retained fuel. In particular, differences between results from the two campaigns may be attributed to a greater proportion of pulses run with strike points in the divertor corners, and having about 300 discharges in hydrogen at the end of ILW-2. Recessed and remote areas can contribute to fuel retention due to the larger areas involved, e.g. recessed main chamber walls, gaps in castellated Be main chamber tiles and material migration to remote divertor areas. The fuel retention and material migration due to the bulk W Tile 5 during ILW-1 are presented. Overall these tiles account for only a small percentage of the global accountancy for ILW-1.

© 2017 Technical University of Denmark. We demonstrate the measurement of a 2D MeV-range ion velocity distribution function by velocity-space tomography at JET. Deuterium ions were accelerated into the MeV-range by third harmonic ion cyclotron resonance heating. We made measurements with three neutron emission spectrometers and a high-resolution γ-ray spectrometer detecting the γ-rays released in two reactions. The tomographic inversion based on these five spectra is in excellent agreement with numerical simulations with the ASCOT-RFOF and the SPOT-RFOF codes. The length of the measured fast-ion tail corroborates the prediction that very few particles are accelerated above 2 MeV due to the weak wave-particle interaction at higher energies.

- Abstract
Networks may be homogeneous in the sense that all nodes are of the same type or they may be heterogeneous in the sense of containing many types of nodes. Once a choice about the types of nodes to be distinguished is made, it is still an open question how to define an acceptable measure of heterogeneity. A proposal to solve this problem is provided in this contribution. In our view the term heterogeneity in a network implies that links between nodes of different type are gauged positively, while links between nodes of the same type should not contribute to a heterogeneity value. Hence a high heterogeneity value refers to a tightly woven net between dissimilar things. We value this property so high that networks without external links receive the same heterogeneity value as homogeneous networks. Concretely, units that determine the value of a heterogeneity measure are links between nodes of different types. These considerations lead to a new measure for heterogeneity derived from a true diversity measure. We claim that we are now able to measure the heterogeneity of networks in a much more precise way than was possible before. An example related to interdisciplinarity is provided. As heterogeneous networks are ubiquitous in the real world, such as in molecular networks, disease networks and trade networks our approach has universal applicability.

In parallel, the availability of R&D and innovation statistics is greater than ever before. However, most of the new policies have been backed by the use of simple aggregated R&D and innovation indicators. This work will use a unique dataset of IS from several LA economies to produce a detailed analysis of innovation strategies of LA firms. These results will facilitate a more comprehensive comparison of innovation performance between LA countries and a richer benchmark analysis with economies from the EU. - Abstract
In recent years, considerable attention has been paid to the effectiveness of knowledge transfer processes between academia and industry. Although there is growing evidence that the characteristics of individual researchers are important when explaining cases of successful transfer, few studies have taken the individual researcher as their unit of analysis. This study aims to use social network theory techniques to gain a better insight into knowledge transfer processes. In particular, we study how the characteristics of ties among individuals, and the interdisciplinary and pervasiveness of research affects the diversity of knowledge transfer activities. To this end, we conduct an empirical study among researchers in the field of nanotechnology. This sector is chosen for its interdisciplinarity and its expected pervasiveness. Data was collected using a survey conducted in Spain and in The Netherlands, allowing us to correct for some environmental and context effects.

- Abstract
As part of an extensive seismic research carried out in the last years at the Northern part of Iberia affected by the Alpine compressional tectonics, the mantle anisotropic features have been investigated with the shear-wave splitting technique. Two N-S transects across the western Pyrenees and the eastern part of the Cantabrian Mountains were instrumented. In both cases the average fast velocity direction (FVD) and the delay times are remarkably consistent. The δt values are less than 1 s and the average FVD is close to E/W, subparallel to the trend of the Pyrenean belt. However, in each station the results show a significant variation of the splitting parameters with respect to the backazimuthal direction. This azimuthal dependence is compatible with synthetic models including two distinct anisotropic layers and suggests a complex distribution at depth of the anisotropic features, to be related with imprints of different geodynamic processes in the area., This work was sponsored by Spanish Research Ministry projects AMB98-1012-C02 and REN2001-1734-C03.

Results from several seismic methods allow us to sketch the deep structure of Etna and its Ionian margin. Under Etna a volume of high velocity material is found in a structurally high position; the emplacement of this suggests spreading of the surrounding medium. Just offshore, down-to-the-east normal faults penetrate through the upper crust. The deeper crustal structure beneath appears upwarped from the basin towards Etna. Juxtaposed with the crust of Sicily, a thinner crust reaches from the Ionian Basin under Etna, and the mantle is upwarped. In such a structure, magma can then be viewed as a melted lens capping a mantle upwarp at shallow depth, rather than in an intracrustal chamber. This reduces the conflict between estimates of its volume from excess output of volatiles and short residence times. A link in time is indicated between volcanic and seismic activity at a large scale: over the millennium the reported ends of episodes of high output rates of magma are followed by the reported occurrences of magnitude 7 + earthquakes which caused destruction in southeastern Sicily. Several steep active normal fault have been imaged to a depth of 10 km the crust up to 30 km offshore of the cities of Catania and Augusta, which may be fault planes for such large earthquakes. They expand and prolongate the system of the Timpe faults on the eastern flank of Etna, thus linking large-scale tectonics offshore with the volcano. Etna developed together with normal faulting, upwarp, and spreading during the recent evolution of the former Ionian subduction. Activation of the material at depth at the lateral edge of the slab, by vertical motion with extension above, could produce the peculiar type of Etna magmatism.
