PurposeTo investigate the efficacy and safety of combined treatment of anlotinib and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC) associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.MethodsWe retrospectively collected the data of 96 uHCC patients associated with HBV infection who received either TACE only (TO group; n = 64) or anlotinib combined with TACE (TA group; n = 32) from January 2017 to January 2021. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). The secondary outcomes included progression-free survival (PFS), tumor response according to modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST) and RECIST 1.1, and adverse events (AEs).ResultsThe median OS and median PFS were significantly longer in the TA group compared to the TO group (17.6 months vs. 9.4 months, p = 0.018; 6.7 months vs. 3.8 months, p = 0.003, respectively). In addition, the overall objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) numerically increased in the TA group (mRECIST, ORR 65.6% vs. 46.9%, p = 0.064, DCR 90.6% vs. 85.9%, p = 0.382; RECIST 1.1, ORR 46.9% vs. 15.6%, p = 0.001, DCR 90.6% vs. 85.9%, p = 0.382, respectively). It was worth noting that no treatment-related mortality occurred during the study. The most common AEs included elevated transaminases (56.3%), decreased appetite (46.9%), and abdominal pain (37.5%) in the TA group. Although the incidence rate of grade 3/4 AEs was higher in the TA group, all of them were controllable.ConclusionsThe combination of anlotinib and TACE has shown promising results in improving outcomes for patients with HBV-related uHCC, as compared to TACE monotherapy. In addition, this combination therapy has demonstrated a controllable safety profile. However, further validation is urgently needed through randomized controlled trials with large sample sizes.

Abstract Using biodegradable blending materials is one of the most effective ways to address plastic pollution but it is hindered by its poor interfacial interaction along with high costs. Herein, an envirionmentally friendly filler, camellia seed powder (CSP)−a byproduct of camellia seed after defatting, is reported, which is first served as a compatibilizer in polylactic acid (PLA)/polybutylene succinate (PBS) blends without any other aids or complicated pretreatment, effectively toughening the PLA/PBS blends due to a better interfacial interaction. The results show that the toughness of composites increases with CSP content. With the addition of 30 phr CSP, its impact strength and elongation at break increase by 44.31% and 148.42%, respectively, as compared with the blend without CSP. The combined effects of improved interfacial bonding, reduced particle size of PBS and efficient stress transfer are responsible for the toughness enhancement. The compatibilization mechanism is proposed that ─COOH groups in PLA and PBS react with ─NH2 in CSP. The above finding of CSP as a compatibilizer provides a facile and inexpensive strategy in the fabrication of high‐performance biodegradable materials.

ZSM-5 molecular sieves (ZSM-5-T1, ZSM-5-T2, ZSM-5-T3) were synthesized using SiO2, SiO2-8.7% C, and SiO2-23.6% C as templates from rice husk powder, respectively. Pt species were fixed within the ZSM-5 skeleton via the isovolumetric impregnation method, and the resulting catalysts were employed for the efficient oxidation of toluene (C7H8). Notably, Pt/ZSM-5-T2 exhibited the highest C7H8 catalytic oxidation activity (R175 °C = 0.733 µmol g-1 s-1, WHSV = 60 000 mL h-1 g-1) among the three variants. Furthermore, this catalyst displayed excellent water resistance when exposed to various concentrations of water vapor (2 vol%, 5 vol%, 8 vol% and 10 vol%) during the activity test. The characterization results provided insight into the exceptional catalytic performance of the Pt/ZSM-5-T2 catalyst, attributing it to its high specific surface area, appropriate hydrophilicity, abundant Lewis acid sites, and a high Pt0/(Pt0 + Pt2+) ratio. In situ DRIFTS analysis further suggested that the key step in the oxidation of C7H8 to benzyl alcohol involves C-H cleavage on Pt/ZSM-5. Simultaneously, the application of a life-cycle assessment (LCA) revealed that this strategy, involving the substitution of chemicals with biomass, led to a remarkable 41-43% reduction in carbon footprint. This environmentally friendly approach underscores the potential for repurposing rice husk powder waste. Pt/ZSM-5-T2 meets the requirements for practical applications, paving the way for sustainable resource utilization in the realm of environmental preservation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
