Drought can greatly impact the biodiversity of an ecosystem and play a crucial role in regulating its functioning. However, the specific mechanisms by which drought mediate the biodiversity effect (BE) on community biomass in above- and belowground through functional traits remain poorly understood. Here, we conducted a common garden experiment in a greenhouse, which included two plant species richness levels and two water addition levels, to analyze the effects of biodiversity on aboveground biomass (AGB), belowground biomass (BGB) and total biomass (TB), and to quantify the relationship between BEs and functional traits under drought conditions. Our analysis focused on partitioning BEs into above- and belowground complementarity effect (CE) and selection effect (SE) at the species level, which allowed us to better understand the impacts of biodiversity on community biomass and the underlying mechanisms. Our results showed that plant species richness stimulated AGB, BGB and TB through CEs. Drought decreased AGB, BGB and TB, simultaneously. In addition, the aboveground CE was positively associated with the variation in plant height. SEs in above- and belowground were negatively correlated with the community mean plant height and root length, respectively. Furthermore, drought weakened the aboveground CE by decreasing variation in plant height, resulting in a reduction in AGB and TB. Our findings demonstrate that the complementarity of species is an important regulator of community biomass in above- and belowground, the dynamics of biomass under environmental stress are associated with the response of sensitive compartments. Segregation of interface elements is the main factor affecting the corrosion activity of microareas around Al2O3 inclusions rather than galvanic corrosion. In this work, the effects of segregation of Cu, V, Ni, Mo, B, and P elements on the interfacial bonding strength and microareas corrosion activity around Al2O3 inclusions are analyzed in detail using 3D atomic probe and first‐principles calculations. In the results, it is shown that Cu, V, Mo, B, and P elements reduce the stability of the α‐Fe/Al2O3 interface. In addition, the segregation of Cu, V, Mo, B, and P elements at the interface also enhances the adsorption capacity of Cl and ultimately improves the microarea corrosion activity around Al2O3 inclusions. Ni element can enhance the stability of α‐Fe/Al2O3 interface, and the segregation of Ni element at the interface weakens the adsorption capacity of Cl and ultimately reduces the microarea corrosion activity around Al2O3 inclusions. Quantum spin liquids (QSLs) are in a quantum disordered state that is highly entangled and has fractional excitations. As a highly sought-after state of matter, QSLs were predicted to host spinon excitations and to arise in frustrated spin systems with large quantum fluctuations. Here we report on the experimental observation and theoretical modeling of QSL signatures in monolayer 1T-NbSe2, which is a newly emerging two-dimensional material that exhibits both charge-density-wave (CDW) and correlated insulating behaviors. By using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS), we confirm the presence of spin fluctuations in monolayer 1T-NbSe2 by observing the Kondo resonance as monolayer 1T-NbSe2 interacts with metallic monolayer 1H-NbSe2. Subsequent STM/STS imaging of monolayer 1T-NbSe2 at the Hubbard band energy further reveals a long-wavelength charge modulation, in agreement with the spinon modulation expected for QSLs. By depositing manganese-phthalocyanine (MnPc) molecules with spin S = 3/2 onto monolayer 1T-NbSe2, new STS resonance peaks emerge at the Hubbard band edges of monolayer 1T-NbSe2. This observation is consistent with the spinon Kondo effect induced by a S = 3/2 magnetic impurity embedded in a QSL. Taken together, these experimental observations indicate that monolayer 1T-NbSe2 is a new promising QSL material.Recently, signatures of quantum spin liquid have been reported in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides. Global climate warming could affect the methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) fluxes between soils and the atmosphere, but how CH4 and N2O fluxes respond to whole‐soil warming is unclear. Here, we for the first time investigated the effects of whole‐soil warming on CH4 and N2O fluxes in an alpine grassland ecosystem on the Tibetan Plateau, and also studied the effects of experimental warming on CH4 and N2O fluxes across terrestrial ecosystems through a global‐scale meta‐analysis. The whole‐soil warming (0–100 cm, +4°C) significantly elevated soil N2O emission by 101%, but had a minor effect on soil CH4 uptake. However, the meta‐analysis revealed that experimental warming did not significantly alter CH4 and N2O fluxes, and it may be that most field warming experiments could only heat the surface soils. Moreover, the warming‐induced higher plant litter and available N in soils may be the main reason for the higher N2O emission under whole‐soil warming in the alpine grassland. We need to pay more attention to the long‐term response of greenhouse gases (including CH4 and N2O fluxes) from different soil depths to whole‐soil warming over year‐round, which could help us more accurately assess and predict the ecosystem‐climate feedback under realistic warming scenarios in the future. Cu is an austenite‐forming element in duplex stainless steel, and the precipitation of Cu‐rich phase can improve the strength of the alloy. However, the role of Cu element in the corrosion resistance of stainless steel is widely controversial. Herein, the effects of different Cu content on the formation of inclusions and the pitting resistance of duplex stainless steel are studied by using potentiodynamic anodic polarization test, immersion corrosion, scanning electron microscope, and electron probe microanalysis. The results show that the pitting potential decreases significantly with the increase of Cu content, which greatly reduces its ability to resist Cl− corrosion. The reason is that Cu increases the driving force for the formation of Al‐containing oxides, which increases the number and size of Al‐containing inclusions formed in the process of melting and solidification. At the same time, Cu promotes the formation of Cr‐depleted zone, which promotes the formation of microcracks and pitting corrosion between steel matrix and inclusions in duplex stainless steel. For covalent attachment-supported α-diimine catalysts, on the basis of ensuring the thermal stability and activity of the catalysts, the important problem is that the active group on the catalyst can quickly react with the support, anchoring it firmly on the support, shortening the loading time, reducing the negative impact of the support on the active centers, and further improving the polymer morphology, which makes them suitable for use in industrial polymerization temperatures. Herein, we synthesized a α-diimine nickel(II) catalyst bearing four hydroxyl substituents. The hydroxyl substituents enable the catalyst to be immobilized firmly on silica support by covalent linkage in 5–10 min. Compared with the toluene solvent system, the homogeneous catalysts show high activity and thermal stability in hexane solvent at the same conditions. Compared with homogeneous catalysts, heterogeneous catalysis leads to improvements in catalyst lifetime, polymer morphology control, catalytic activity, and the molecular weight of polyethylene (up to 679 kg/mol). The silica-supported catalysts resulted in higher melting temperatures as well as lower branching densities in polyethylenes. Even at 70 °C, the polyethylene prepared by S-CatA-2 still exhibits dispersed particle morphology, and there is no phenomenon of reactor fouling, which is suitable for industrial polymerization processes. Background and Aims Nitrogen enrichment affects biodiversity, plant functional traits and ecosystem functions. However, the direct and indirect effects of nitrogen addition and biodiversity on the links between plant traits and ecosystem functions have been largely overlooked, even though multidimensional characteristics of plant functional traits are probably critical predictors of ecosystem functions. Methods To investigate the mechanism underlying the links between plant trait identity, diversity, network topology and above- and below-ground biomass along a plant species richness gradient under different nitrogen addition levels, a common garden experiment was conducted in which those driving factors were manipulated. Key Results The study found that nitrogen addition increased above-ground biomass but not below-ground biomass, while species richness was positively associated with above- and below-ground biomass. Nitrogen addition had minor effects on plant trait identity and diversity, and on the connectivity and complexity of the trait networks. However, species richness increased above-ground biomass mainly by increasing leaf trait diversity and network modularity, and enhanced below-ground biomass through an increase in root nitrogen concentration and network modularity. Conclusions The results demonstrate the mechanistic links between community biomass and plant trait identity, diversity and network topology, and show that the trait network architecture could be an indicator of the effects of global changes on ecosystem functions as importantly as trait identity and diversity. Grain boundaries in two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors generally induce distorted band alignment and interfacial charge, which impair their electronic properties for device applications. Here, we report the improvement of band alignment at the grain boundaries of PtSe2, a 2D semiconductor, with selective adsorption of a presentative organic acceptor, tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ). TCNQ molecules show selective adsorption at the PtSe2 grain boundary with strong interfacial charge. The adsorption of TCNQ distinctly improves the band alignment at the PtSe2 grain boundaries. With the charge transfer between the grain boundary and TCNQ, the local charge is inhibited, and the band bending at the grain boundary is suppressed, as revealed by the scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/S) results. Our finding provides an effective method for the advancement of the band alignment at the grain boundary by functional molecules, improving the electronic properties of 2D semiconductors for their future applications. The gap between the rich and the poor is growing, and moral judgements between the rich and the poor will greatly affect their interaction and social stability. Based on subjective group dynamics theory, the current research leveraged two studies to test the interactive effect between self social class and target social class on moral judgements, and explored one important boundary of this interactive effect. The results of Study 1 showed that participants tended to make a stricter moral judgement on a target of the same social class as themselves than on a target of a different social class. The results of Study 2 further showed that people from the same social class and the same university judged each other with stricter moral standards; in contrast, people from the same social class but different universities did not use stricter moral standards. Therefore, individuals would make stricter moral judgements on people from the same social class as themselves, but make looser judgements on people from different social classes. This phenomenon only occurred when the participants and the target came from the same well‐defined groups instead of different well‐defined groups. Rare earth elements have unique outer electronic structure, variable valence, and strong chemical activity; however, their occurrence state in the rust layer and influence on the invasion state of corrosion atoms are still unclear. Herein, using a combination of experiment and first‐principles calculation, the occurrence state of La in the rust layer of low‐alloy high strength steel, the phase composition, compactness and stability of the rust layer, and the invasion state of corrosion atoms before and after La alloying are studied. The results show that La exists in the corrosion products in the form of a solute atom. La increases the concentration of corrosion‐resistant elements Cr and Mo in the rust layer but does not change the phase composition. La is conducive to stabilizing Cl atoms in α‐FeOOH and β‐FeOOH, so as to protect the steel matrix from Cl. La atoms inhibit the dissolution of Cl atoms into γ‐FeOOH and Fe3O4 structures and hinder their formation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
