Multiple studies have demonstrated that these nocturnal IOP elevations drive glaucomatous progression, often despite stable daytime IOP. Existing vascular dysregulation and decreased nighttime blood pressure compound the damage via low ocular perfusion pressure while elevated nocturnal IOP disrupts axonal transport. These findings are consistent with studies that indicate lowering nocturnal IOP is important for slowing glaucoma progression. Many of the current treatment options lower nighttime IOP significantly less than daytime IOP. Non-invasive IOP-lowering treatments that effectively lower nocturnal IOP remain an unmet need in the treatment of glaucoma.Keywords: glaucoma, nocturnal intraocular pressure, translaminar pressure differential

This study aimed to characterize the top-performing ophthalmologic posts on a large social media platform to better understand the spread of ophthalmic information via social media.Materials and Methods: This was a web-based study that searched for ophthalmology-related posts on Instagram, with subjects being users who posted ophthalmic content. A list of 36 ophthalmology-related hashtags, including the most common diagnoses and procedures identified from the IRIS Registry, was queried. For each hashtag, data were collected for “Top 9 posts” (as ranked by Instagram’s engagement-based algorithm) at three different time points. Posts were analyzed for the poster’s background, credentials, post format, content, caption length, and engagement level.Results: Of the top-performing posts analyzed (n = 972), the most frequent post format was a photo (82.2%), followed by video (8.8%) and graphic (8.4%). Ophthalmologists (35.8%) authored the highest number of posts, followed by patients (27.1%), optometrists (20.1%), and organizations (12.7%). The highest average engagement level ratios (ELRs) belonged to ophthalmologists-in-training (0.096), followed by patients (0.084), optometrists (0.070), all ophthalmologists (0.067) and organizations (0.051); p < 0.001. The most engaging type of content was self-promotional (0.118) and personal experience-related (0.091); educational content was the least engaging (0.059) even though it comprised the majority of posts (56%); (p < 0.001). Characteristics that predicted the highest ELRs (reaching 80th percentile) were captions and/or images that featured personal experiences (3.335 OR), whitecoats (3.259), and those authored by ophthalmologist trainees (3.172); (p < 0.01). The least engaging were those featuring fundus photos (0.281), educational content (0.359), and authored by organizations (0.428); (p < 0.05).Conclusion: The majority of ophthalmologic content on Instagram is authored by non-ophthalmologists, with educational content being the least engaging. Practicing ophthalmologists have an opportunity to reach more patients through social media by incorporating specific features known to drive post engagement and reach.Precis: Social media has become a popular source of health information for patients. As learning is more real and permanent when connected to learners' private lives beyond the classroom (Godwin-Jones, 2011), mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) has emerged as a good way to support language learning, especially in informal contexts. With thousands of language learning applications (apps) becoming available, more and more language learners have started to use them as a support for their language learning. The purpose of this research is to investigate the life cycle of language learning apps and the reasons why learners decide to start, stop and restart using apps to better understand the use of the apps outside formal education contexts. The data collected from a survey of 186 participants with experience using language learning apps were analyzed. The results showed that the language learning app has three different phases in its life cycle, which are the "increasing period," "decreasing period," and "reviving period" with three turning points. This life cycle is similar to the Hype Cycle, a model describing how a new technology develops. Furthermore, the reasons behind the three turning points were also discussed. Influence from teachers and friends was the most significant factor contributing to starting using apps. The reasons for abandoning apps can be divided into app-related ones such as dissatisfaction of apps, and learner-related ones, such as stop learning a language. Restarting to learn a language is the major reason for participants who chose to use apps again. The results also revealed that language learners had a positive attitude towards language learning apps, while the high abandonment rate of using apps also indicated that both apps and learning patterns could be improved if teachers can provide more sufficient and appropriate guidance to support the selection and use of apps, and app-designers can include more meaningful and interactive activities rather than just providing drills. Even before the inception of the term "learning analytics," researchers globally had been investigating the use of various feedback systems to support the self-regulation of participation and promote equitable contributions during collaborative learning activities. While some studies indicate positive effects for distinct subgroups of learners, a common finding is that the majority of learners do not modify their behaviour, even after repeated interventions. In this paper, we assessed one such system and, predictably, did not find measurable improvements in equitable participation. Informed by self-regulated learning theory, we conducted a mixed-methods study to explore the diverse paths that learners take in the self-regulation process initiated by the feedback. We found that the observed deviations from the expected path explain the difficulty in measuring a generalized effect. This study proposes a shift in research focus from merely improving the technological aspects of the system to a human- and pedagogical-centred redesign that takes special consideration of how learners understand and process feedback to self-regulate their participation.

Successful Black reparations require a policy for delivering payments, one that provides for effective identification, disbursement, asset protection, and asset growth over time. In this article, we suggest a structural solution (structured wealth accumulation of reparations payments) to a structural challenge (deeply embedded racial wealth inequality). Analyzing evidence from a longitudinal experiment, we find that Child Development Accounts (CDAs)--a carefully designed and tested asset- building policy for children--provide a model that can inform effective delivery and sustainable growth of reparations. CDA policy models a system of potentially lifelong, centralized asset building, with automatic enrollment, sensible investment options, structured asset protections, low fees, asset growth, and investment targets to achieve individual and family goals. Policy and research implications for Black reparations and reduction in racial wealth inequality are discussed.

There is a need to develop an anatomy course with contemporary pedagogy that is consistent with the core of the occupational therapy profession. The purpose of this study was to examine students' perception of a blended learning pedagogy applied to an occupation-based anatomy course compared to a traditionally delivered anatomy course using cadaver lab for entry-level doctoral occupational therapy students at a private university in the Pacific Northwest region. A retrospective, nonrandomized, twogroup, post-test only design with data gathered at the completion of each course was used. One student cohort received the occupation-based anatomy course with a traditional in-person learning format and the other received the course guided by the universal design, blended learning format. The primary outcomes were students' course performance and perception of the course. At the completion of the course, both student cohorts had equivalent course performance. Compared to those who received the traditional format, the blended learning format cohort yielded significantly higher scores in 3 out of 5 categories of the course evaluation, including syllabus design, contribution of course content to their needs as a professional, and assessment methods that reflected their learning. The study results suggest that the occupation-based anatomy course guided by a contemporary pedagogical approach is equal to traditional methods in anatomical knowledge acquisition but statistically superior in meeting students' perceived needs as professionals and reflecting their learning.

Teachers' discourse is instrumental in facilitating the emergence of students' scientific discourse. Many studies have shown that teachers' cognitive demand levels and discursive moves are the main factors in eliciting students' scientific discourse, but few focus on whole-class (non-grouped) teaching settings. This research explored the correlation between teachers' discourse strategies (the cognitive demand of questions and discursive moves) and students' scientific discourse quality in whole-class teaching without intervention. Applying the chi-square test, correspondence analysis, and content analysis, the study revealed the correlation structure between teachers' discourse strategies and students' scientific discourse quality. The teachers' lower (remembering and understanding) cognitive demand questions, primarily elicited students' low-quality (everyday discourse and elementary) scientific discourse responses. High (analyzing and creating) cognitive demand questions, primarily elicited students' high-quality (moderate and advanced) scientific discourse responses. The teachers' discursive moves also elicited students' high-quality scientific discourse, particularly following the teacher's high cognitive demand questions. High-control discursive moves (e.g., "providing opinion") elicited students' moderate scientific discourse responses, and low-control discursive moves ("allocation and organization") elicited students' moderate and advanced scientific discourse responses. Based on these findings, suggestions were made for science teachers.

The significance of environmental education has become more evident, driven by global concerns surrounding climate change. In Vietnam, a country facing significant environmental challenges, developing environmental knowledge of elementary school teachers is crucial. This study aimed to validate a questionnaire for assessing professional knowledge of elementary school teachers in teaching environmental issues, originally designed in the Korean context. Recognizing the need for adaptation to the Vietnamese educational system, language, and local environmental issues, the initial 39-item questionnaire underwent a validation process. A total of 86 elementary school teachers participated in the construct validity and reliability, while eight qualified professionals evaluated the content validity. The results indicated that content validity indices for each item ranged from 0.88 to 1.00, and a scale-content validity index was 0.90. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed construct validity, organizing the 27 items into seven dimensions. The Cronbach's [alpha] coefficient was 0.86, which confirmed the questionnaire demonstrated a high level of reliability. Therefore, it is a reliable instrument for assessing elementary school teachers' professional knowledge in teaching environmental issues, which is relevant in the Vietnamese context. The validated instrument supports the development of professional development programs and contributes to the broader goal of enhancing environmental education in Vietnam.

This study investigates the role of speaking the Jing language in the contemporary context of China's active engagement with Vietnam. Based on the fieldwork conducted in Dongxing Guangxi in January 2024, the study shows that the Jing language plays an important role in both maintaining the cultural heritage as pride and empowering the educational and employment trajectories as profit. More importantly, the capacity of speaking the Jing language can contribute to the social and medical communication between China and Vietnam. This can be manifested in terms of cultural communication with Vietnam and medical treatment for Vietnamese migrants. However, speaking the Jing language as pride is not always consistent with speaking the Jing language as profit. The internal differentiation within Vietnamese varieties may cause communication barriers for Jing speakers. The limited development of the Jing language also creates another layer of communication challenges for Jing people engaging in professional practices. How to mobilize the Jing language to facilitate the bilateral communication between China and Vietnam deserves our attention for future studies. The study has enriched the scope of the studies on language planning and policy in the borderlands. The study can shed lights on implementing language policy in China's border provinces and provide practical implications to facilitate the political and economic communication between China and other neighbouring countries for border prosperity and border stability.

This study applies the hermeneutical phenomenological approach, guided by Critical Race Theory, to explicate a nuanced understanding of the way Chinese international students' racial identity shapes the challenges that they faced during the pandemic and their experience of academic institutions' support during this time. The current study highlights the pervasive anti-Asian racism that directly and indirectly contributed to Chinese international students' negative experiences studying in Canada during the pandemic. The findings also highlight the lack of support from academic institutions, despite the rising anti-Asian racism faced by this group of students. Furthermore, this study calls attention to the consideration of race in developing support programs for racialized international students. Recommendations for universities to better support international students (Chinese or otherwise) are developed.

The objectives of this research are to study: (i) the history and development of knowledge of Yiwulv Mountain Manchu paper-cutting art, and (ii) the process of designing and developing digital media for learning about cultural heritage. This research used qualitative research methods. By studying documents and collecting field data by surveys, interviews, observations, group discussions, and workshops. The data was elicited from a group of 40 participants. The analysis was based on the objectives and the results were presented in a descriptive analytical manner. The results are as follows: (i) The art of paper-cutting is related to history and culture. There is a unique cultural identity of the Manchus on Yiwulv Mountain. The way of conveying knowledge is told orally. Currently, there is a problem due to the age of paper-cutting artists and lack of inheritance. Therefore, it is necessary to find ways to protect them as well as transfer them to youth and those who are interested. (ii) The art of paper-cutting is applied with 3D animation technology to inherit and learn the art of Yiwulv Mountain Manchu paper-cutting. The teaching materials created can be explained in detail from the perspective and content. The design combines virtual tour technology to make it interesting. Learners study through digital media and computer systems, which makes it convenient to access information.

This study aims to explore the overlapping influences of the home and school on peer victimization in adolescents under the notion of home-school partnership and to investigate how the parent-child relationship, teacher-student relationship, teenage depressive symptoms are related to peer victimization by constructing a moderated mediation model. It surveyed 1,710 students in 5-8 grades, using the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment, Student-Teacher Relationship Scale (brief version), Multidimensional Peer Victimization Scale, and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (brief version). Research findings show that the parent-child relationship had a direct impact on peer victimization and indirectly affected peer victimization via the mediation of teenage depressive symptoms; and that teacher-student relationships had moderating effects on the three paths in the mediation model, playing roles in enhancing the protection effect of the parent-child relationship against peer victimization, weakening the possible impact of the parent-child relationship on teenager depression, and alleviating the predictive effect of depressive symptoms on peer victimization. The research suggests that home-school partnership is a viable avenue for the prevention of school bullying.

Gender studies in Western institutions of higher education tend to focus on the deficiencies of female students in adjusting to new cultures compared to their male counterparts (Contreras-Aguirre & Gonzalez, 2017; Manese et al., 1988; Mallinckrodt & Leong, 1992). Few researchers have delved into female Chinese international students' ways of self-fashioning and the opportunities it brings them. Using a phenomenological theoretical framework combined with a critical lens to conduct detailed interviews, this study shifted the lens of focusing on female students' deficiencies, instead exploring how a group of Chinese female international students self-fashioned as they navigated the U.S. higher education environment. Three major themes emerged in our female Chinese international students' stories: their "self-fashioning" helps them (1) sophistically navigate the U.S. system better, (2) tactically fit into the new U.S. society, and (3) adaptively create more genuine personal identities. Implications were discussed at the end of this study.

Redox reaction is a core chemical concept. However, its abstract nature makes it very difficult for students. Students' conceptual structure reflects their mastery of concepts, which helps teachers implement targeted educational strategies. This study aimed to explore the conceptual structures of redox reaction held by students (grades 10 to 12) by employing MDS and HCA. A total of 606 students participated, with 195 students in 10th grade, 202 in 11th grade, and 209 in 12th grade. The results indicated that three-dimensional solutions were appropriate for the conceptual structures of 10th and 12th graders, while 11th graders demonstrated two-dimensional solutions. All students grouped the 15 concepts related to redox reaction into two large clusters: metrology and the redox reaction process. Moreover, both 10th and 12th graders further subdivided the 15 concepts into four subclusters: metrology, oxidation process, reduction process, and chemical reaction. Students' conceptual structures were rational across all three grades. The conceptual structures of 10th and 12th graders were more refined than those of 11th graders, and there was no significant difference between the conceptual structures of 10th and 12th graders. 11th graders learned about electrochemistry and tended to confuse concepts related to redox reaction with those related to electrochemistry.

This study explored the views of 63 Taiwanese pre-service teachers who had participated in a workshop about the value of integrating drama-based approaches in their practical science learning. It was primarily designed to investigate the pedagogical approach of Heathcote and other founders of process drama. In addition, it examined specific claims that it immerses learners in an enjoyable and social learning environment (Poston-Anderson, 2008; Lin, 2017) and that learners can practice core scientific skills such as making predictions, observing, and then validating their predictions (Weisberg et al., 2016). Following the workshop, participants completed an anonymized online questionnaire. Descriptive data analysis indicated that most participants (75%) strongly agreed that integrating drama-based approaches into practical science teaching was satisfying. Of the remainder, 20.7% agreed, 2.1% neither agreed nor disagreed, 2.2% disagreed, and none strongly disagreed with this statement. Moreover, 34.9% of the participants lacked opportunities to experience improvisation and integration of drama-based teaching in practical science. The study indicated that a drama-based approach can be a highly effective strategy for enhancing practical science teaching among pre-service teachers. Furthermore, the findings provide valuable insights into the factors influencing drama-based teaching in practical science. They suggest it could be an excellent strategy to stimulate learners' interest in science and interdisciplinary science-related subjects and improve their science skills. Teachers could thus provide young children with similar drama-based teaching in practical science activities to promote their learning of science. Finally, the study offers a set of important recommendations for future pedagogical policymaking and further research by drama-based practitioners.

A substantial percentage of international students are placed on academic probation each year. This study explored the challenges and resilience characteristics of Chinese international students placed on academic probation in their first year of college. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine probationary Chinese international students, and the data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The results indicated that challenges with daily routine, reduced adult supervision, inadequate academic preparation, and limited participation in the application process were the main factors that contributed to their academic probation. Proactivity, independence, and flexible thinking were important resilience characteristics that may have helped students cope positively with stresses relating to academic probation. Targeted institutional support could be strengthened. Implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research are also discussed.

Students' seating selection is a significant physical variable that has implications for both teachers and students. These seating preferences have been linked to students' personalities, motivation, and academic performance. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the cultural influences on these preferences. In this exploratory qualitative study, we aim to investigate the cultural factors that influence the seating choices of undergraduate students. The study participants were recruited using purposive sampling. Face-to-face interviews and scenario simulation surveys were utilized to collect data, which was analyzed using thematic analysis. The study's findings suggest that seating preferences are largely a function of individual differences and personal preferences, which often stem from personal and cultural factors. These factors are discussed under five primary themes: course academic value, gaining positive experiences, avoiding negative experiences, modesty and humility, and social belonging. These findings have implications for teaching and learning and for instructors, especially those from foreign cultures.

This study identifies women college engineering students' perception of online Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning and factors that influence their learning motivation during the COVID-19 period. By conducting interviews with ten women engineering students and applying attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction (ARCS) model, this study aims to answer two questions: (1) How did women college engineering students perceive their experience with online STEM learning during the pandemic? (2) What category/categories based on ARCS motivational design model primarily account for women college engineering students' learning motivation with online STEM learning during the pandemic? The results show that the online learning format influenced women college engineering students' perception regarding their academic plans, learning styles, learning environments, peer learning, and learning satisfaction. The most influential categories from ARCS model were 'confidence' and 'attention'. Findings suggest that the online STEM learning format influenced women college engineering students' learning motivation. The online format led to (1) low expectations for attention category when analyzed using ARCS model, (2) anticipation of more self-control, and (3) a desire for more peer interactions in their online STEM learning. As students would have new expectations for the role of online learning due to their experience during the pandemic, assessing women students' emerging motivational needs for STEM online learning is critical in developing a more inclusive instructional system design process in the future.

Nestled within the captivating landscapes of Guizhou Province, China, Shan'ge folk songs, a cherished tradition of the Yi ethnic group, embody a rich cultural heritage. This study aims to investigate the contemporary status of Shan'ge folk songs in Guizhou, with a focus on Panzhou County, Lupanshui City, and the Yi community, while proposing guidelines for their transmission through education and literacy initiatives. Nine key informants, including local musicians and community members, were interviewed, and field observations were conducted. Thematic coding and comparative analysis were employed to analyze the data. The result of this study shows that the enduring cultural significance of these songs, serving as cultural beacons, rituals, and oral history repositories, remains consistent, but challenges such as urbanization, changing lifestyles, and language shift threaten their transmission. We conclude by suggesting guidelines that encompass integrating Shan'ge folk songs into school curricula, fostering community-based learning, and leveraging digital tools to ensure their continuity. In embracing these strategies, Shan'ge folk songs can bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, honoring the past while safeguarding their future.

Jiujiang Folk Songs, from Jiujiang County in Jiangxi Province, is a traditional Chinese folk genre with unique musical styles and themes focusing on daily life, labor, love, and historical narratives. Beginning with an introduction that highlights the cultural significance of these songs, the study's objective is to propose strategies for education and literacy in the preservation and transmission of Jiujiang folk songs in Jiangxi Province. Focusing on Jiujiang County, known for its rich cultural heritage, the research involves key informants with deep roots in the region and extensive experience in performing and teaching Jiujiang folk songs. Through qualitative data analysis, including live performance observations and structured interviews, the study identifies key challenges such as an aging population of practitioners, language barriers, and a lack of modern promotion. Drawing from these findings, the research suggests strategies at multiple levels, including legislative protection, cultural promotion, and school involvement, to bridge these gaps and ensure the continued preservation and transmission of Jiujiang folk songs. This study contributes to the broader discourse on the preservation of traditional cultural heritage in the face of modernization and serves as a model for safeguarding similar treasures worldwide.

In the ever-changing sector of education, the use of technology has become critical to innovation and increased learning opportunities. This research illustrates the intricate connections that exist between augmented reality [AR] and tremendous educational attributes, thinking about how AR might modify conventional teaching approaches. The important motive is to offer an entire knowledge of how augmented fact influences crucial areas of the educational revel in. Utilizing a quantitative studies method, the study seems at how AR impacts pupil behavior, creativity, and instructional practices, in addition to the mediating and moderating elements that influence these relationships. An online questionnaire was used to collect data from 444 random samples. The relationships between AR, teacher competence, technology acceptance, and educational outcomes were examined. Data shows that augmented reality has a positive effect on creativity, student behavior, and teaching strategies. Teacher competence moderated these relationships, highlighting the critical role of teachers in successfully integrating augmented reality, while technology acceptance emerged as a significant mediator demonstrating the significance of user perceptions. This study has critical implications for educators, administrators, and policymakers interested in using AR to improve instructional development, as well as for the field of generation-infused schooling administration. Additionally, it advances theoretical frameworks through a better understanding of the complicated tactics that impact the uptake and acceptability of AR.

Recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have brought society closer to the long-held dream of creating machines to help with both common and complex tasks and functions. From recommending movies to detecting disease in its earliest stages, AI has become an aspect of daily life many people accept without scrutiny. Despite its functionality and promise, AI has inherent security risks that users should understand and programmers must be trained to address. The ICE (integrity, confidentiality, and equity) cybersecurity labs developed by a team of cybersecurity researchers addresses these vulnerabilities to AI models through a series of hands-on, inquiry-based labs. Through experimenting with and manipulating data models, students can experience firsthand how adversarial samples and bias can degrade the integrity, confidentiality, and equity of deep learning neural networks, as well as implement security measures to mitigate these vulnerabilities. This article addresses the pedagogical approach underpinning the ICE labs, and discusses both sample activities and technological considerations for teachers who want to implement these labs with their students.

The present study investigated the profiles of motivational regulation strategies for writing (MRSW) and examined the relationship between learners' use of MRSW and their English writing performance across different profiles. L2 Writing Strategies for Motivational Regulation Questionnaire (L2WSMRQ) was administered to examine the potential profiles with a total of 604 senior high school students. Latent profile analysis yielded three subgroups of motivational regulation strategies for writing: limited, modest and competent regulators. The results of multi-group structural equation modeling revealed the significant effects of motivational regulation strategies on English writing in all three profiles. More importantly, the present study found that the relation between motivational regulation strategies and English writing performance varied across the three profiles. The most salient effect that motivational regulation strategies had was on the learners in the modest MRSW profiles, followed by the competent and limited MRSW profile, displaying a low-high-low pattern. These findings may provide pedagogical implications for EFL teachers.

In the classroom setting, social context and self-systems affect student engagement for school success. Students' perceived goal orientation of their teachers and grit influence their engagement in academic learning. However, adolescents' efforts for academic success related to teachers' goal orientation and grit remains under-researched in the context of China. The current study aims to investigate the effect of students' perceptions of their teacher's mastery goal orientation on their engagement, specifically considering the mediating effect of grit (pursuing long-term goals with consistency of interest and perseverance of effort). We surveyed 653 eighth-grade students (mean age = 14.4 years) from 13 secondary schools in rural areas of China. The results of structural equation modeling indicated that perceived mastery goal orientation, consistency of interest, and perseverance of effort had significant positive direct effects on student engagement. Additionally, the relationship between perceived mastery goal orientation and student engagement was partially mediated by consistency of interest and perseverance of effort (consistency of interest showed a stronger effect than perseverance of effort). The study contributes to the understanding of the potential mediating effect of grit in classroom settings.

The purpose of this research study was to examine the overall effect of adaptive learning systems deployed using artificial intelligence technology across a range of relevant variables (e.g., duration, student level, etc.). Following a systematic procedure, this meta-analysis examined literature from 18 academic databases and identified N = 45 independent studies utilizing AI-enabled adaptive learning. This meta-analysis examined the overall effect of AI-enabled adaptive learning systems on students' cognitive learning outcomes when compared with non-adaptive learning interventions and found that they have a medium to large positive effect size (g = 0.70). The effect was significantly moderated by publication type, origin of study, student classification level, student discipline, duration, and research design. In addition, all three adaptive sources (cognitive, affective, and behavioral) and adaptive targets (navigation and assessment) were significant moderators. The type of AI used in the adaptive engine did not moderate the effects. Implications for both practice and research are provided.

This research applied the perspectives of volition theory and goal setting theory to analyze the effects of teachers' volitional strategies and task value on goal commitment in remedial teaching. The samples were collected from 92 elementary schools and 460 teachers with remedial teaching experiences were invited to participate in this study. There were 296 responses, recovery rated of 64.3%. Multivariate analysis of variance and structural equation modeling were employed to analyze the data. The results revealed, first, significant differences in volitional strategies and goal commitment were observed among teachers with different degrees of teaching experiences. Those who possessed more remedial teaching experiences had better volitional strategies and goal commitment; Second, significant differences were displayed in volitional strategies between remedial teaching teachers from different professional backgrounds. Teachers with a good professional background had shown higher volitional strategies in self-efficacy enhancement dimension. Finally, teachers' volitional strategies and task value were found with strong and moderate effects, respectively, on the goal commitment of remedial teaching. The findings provided useful information for teacher preparation programs.

Fear of failure undermines students' learning and well-being. However, despite the prevalence of fear of failure, there is a lack of a measurement tool explicitly designed to assess the fear of failure in learning among Chinese students. This study aimed to adapt and validate the Chinese version of the Fear of Failure in Learning Scale (C-FOFLS). Exploratory factor analyses were conducted for the adaptation group (N = 353) and a four-factor solution was found. The construct validity of the four-factor structure was subsequently confirmed by item-level analysis and confirmatory factor analysis for the validation group (N = 366). The final scale was comprised of 22 items and had four underlying dimensions: shame, performance avoidance, learned helplessness, and self-handicapping. Pearson correlation analyses demonstrated satisfactory convergent validity and concurrent validity of the C-FOFLS. C-FOFLS could be a valuable tool for conducting research on the fear of failure in learning of Chinese students.

Objective: To examine the manifestation of cognitive control deficit of children with different levels of hyperactivity, an "at risk" dimension for ADHD. Method: A group of children with high hyperactivity (N = 40) and another group of children with low levels of hyperactivity (N = 38) performed a modified stop-signal anticipation task, a revised Go/NoGo task, and the AX-continuous performance test (AX-CPT). Results: Children with higher levels of hyperactivity displayed: (1) significantly prolonged stop signal reaction time (SSRT) in the modified stop-signal anticipation task; (2) no notable differences in commission errors in the revised Go/NoGo task; (3) increased reaction time (RT) in stop-signal task and Go/NoGo task with increased probabilities of stop or NoGo signal; and (4) positive proactive behavioral index scores in AXCPT. Conclusion: The results suggested that children with heightened hyperactivity exhibited impaired reactive control, especially for responses already underway, but preserved proactive control. Further studies concerning these children are warranted.

Currently, the issue of educational equity and balanced regional educational development for minority groups is receiving enormous attention. This study explored the influence of parental science expectations on science interests and related mediating effects on Yi junior high school students in China's largest Yi-inhabited region. The results of the study found that parental science expectations significantly predicted the science interests of Yi junior high school students; science interests, science experience, and science self-efficacy played a chain mediating role between parental science expectations and science interests; minority areas are likely to suffer from a lack of science resources due to economic and environmental factors, parents' failure to properly understand the value of science, and students' lack of extracurricular science experiences, thereby resulting in minority students' loss of interest in science. Therefore, there is a strong need to improve the science expectations of parents of minority students for their children, increase opportunities for minority students to participate in hands-on science activities and gain access to science media, and enhance their sense of science self-efficacy. These efforts are conducive to promoting increased interest in science among minority middle school students and enhancing educational equity and sustainable social development.

This study explored the impact of interactive e-books on the viewing behaviors of children in science demonstrations at museums. To conduct this study, an interactive e-book on a pendulum experiment was developed and integrated into a physical science demonstration at a museum. Two scientific demonstrations were conducted in this study. The first demonstration was conducted using the conventional science demonstration method, without integrating the interactive e-book into the demonstration. The second was a science demonstration with an integrated interactive e-book. The study analyzed and compared the children's learning motivation, viewing behaviors, and knowledge gained in both demonstrations. The results showed that the different science demonstrations did not significantly affect the children's current knowledge gain or learning motivation. However, the sequence analysis revealed that in the conventional science demonstration without the interactive e-book, children were more engaged in observing the science demonstration, experiment, and instrument operation and interacting with neighboring viewers. In contrast, in the science demonstration with the integration of the interactive e-book, children had more physical involvement, including pointing at the answers in the e-book, swinging their arms with the pendulum animation, and nodding when confused about the expected results. In addition, the children who joined the demonstration with the interactive e-book made more attempts to learn about procedural knowledge. These results demonstrated that both learning modes have similar learning effects on children, indicating the feasibility of the two learning modes. Furthermore, the results revealed that children's needs might differ when engaged in different modes of science demonstrations; for example, conventional modes need more support from companions, whereas e-book modes need more children's physical participation.
