In the context of organizers’ behavior scheduling optimization, accurately assessing and optimizing scheduling programs is essential. This paper introduces HyperFusion, a framework designed to enhance scheduling efficiency through hypergraph learning techniques and an adaptive feature fusion model tailored to organizers’ behavioral patterns. The model categorizes and evaluates scheduling methods by identifying peer groups of organizers who share similar behavioral and operational attributes. Addressing challenges such as variability in scheduling approaches across different environments and the availability of diverse behavioral data, HyperFusion utilizes hypergraph-based feature fusion to identify high-quality scheduling and behavioral features that reflect each organizer’s unique scheduling style and operational impact. Employing a probabilistic model, the framework represents each organizer’s attributes in a latent space, enabling a nuanced understanding of their contributions. A large-scale hypergraph is constructed to map relationships and similarities among organizers, identifying dense subgraphs or “circles” of organizers with shared attributes. By mining these high-order relationships within these “organizer circles”, HyperFusion enhances scheduling quality and provides adaptive fusion of behavioral features, optimizing the scheduling process to meet the objectives of high-order relationship discovery. Experiments conducted on a dataset of organizers from 36 prominent institutions (our complied data set) demonstrate the model’s effectiveness in improving scheduling programs, underscoring its capability to align scheduling practices with adaptive, data-driven optimization and fostering a responsive and efficient scheduling system.

Abstract Despite advancements in therapeutic agents for diabetic chronic wounds, challenges such as suboptimal bioavailability, intricate disease milieus, and inadequate delivery efficacy have impeded treatment outcomes. Here, ultrasound‐responsive hydrogel incorporated with heparin‐binding domain (HBD) peptide nanoparticles is developed to promote diabetic wound healing. HBD peptide, derived from von Willebrand Factor with angiogenic activity, are first engineered to self‐assemble into nanoparticles with enhanced biostability and bioavailability. Ultrasound responsive cargo release and hydrogel collapses are first verified through breakage of crosslinking. In addition, desired antioxidant and antibacterial activity of such hydrogel is observed. Moreover, the degradation of hydrogel under ultrasound stimulation into smaller fragments facilitated the deeper wound penetration of ≈400 µm depth. Complete wound closure is observed from diabetic mice with chronic wounds after being treated with the proposed hydrogel. In detail, in vivo studies revealed that hydrogels loaded with HBD peptide nanoparticles increased the levels of angiogenesis‐related growth factors (VEGF‐A, CD31, and α‐SMA) to effectively accelerate wound repair. Overall, this study demonstrates that ultrasound‐responsive HBD peptide hydrogel provides a synergistic therapeutic strategy for external biofilm elimination and internal effective delivery for diabetic wounds with biofilm infection.

Abstract Background Uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC) is a prevalent gynecologic malignancy with a favorable prognosis if detected early. However, there is a lack of accurate and reliable early detection tests for UCEC. This study aims to develop a precise and non-invasive diagnostic method for UCEC using circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragmentomics. Methods Peripheral blood samples were collected from all participants, and cfDNA was extracted for analysis. Low-coverage whole-genome sequencing was performed to obtain cfDNA fragmentomics data. A robust machine learning model was developed using these features to differentiate between UCEC and healthy conditions. Results The cfDNA fragmentomics-based model showed high predictive power for UCEC detection in training (n = 133; AUC 0.991) and validation cohorts (n = 89; AUC 0.994). The model manifested a specificity of 95.5% and a sensitivity of 98.5% in the training cohort, and a specificity of 95.5% and a sensitivity of 97.8% in the validation cohort. Physiological variables and preanalytical procedures had no significant impact on the classifier’s outcomes. In terms of clinical benefit, our model would identify 99% of Chinese UCEC patients at stage I, compared to 21% under standard care, potentially raising the 5-year survival rate from 84 to 95%. Conclusion This study presents a novel approach for the early detection of UCEC using cfDNA fragmentomics and machine learning showing promising sensitivity and specificity. Using this model in clinical practice could significantly improve UCEC management and control, enabling early intervention and better patient outcomes. Further optimization and validation of this approach are warranted to establish its clinical utility.

Abstract The precision treatment of tumors with minimal side effects is associated with improved human health and quality of life. In recent years, phototherapy has attracted significant attention in tumor therapy due to its versatility, spatiotemporal controllability, non‐resistance, and minimal side effects. Carbon dots (CDs) are considered promising phototherapy reagents because of their simple preparation, facilitated surface modification, tunable energy bands, excellent electron‐transfer capabilities, remarkable photoelectric and photothermal conversion properties, and outstanding biocompatibility. This review summarizes recent advancements in photo‐responsive CDs for photodynamic therapy and the emerging photocatalytic therapy of tumors. Finally, the article discusses the main challenges associated with the development of photo‐responsive CDs for oncology therapeutics and strategies to overcome these challenges.

This study aims to create a performance evaluation model for the food processing machinery industry. The goal is to help food processing plants improve both process quality and competitiveness. Additionally, component failures may disrupt the continuous operation of the food processing machine, potentially resulting in insufficient production and delays in delivery, which in turn leads to cost losses. For the sold food processing machinery, decreases in the average number of failures within a unit of time, the average repair response time when a failure occurs, and the average repair duration are three crucial factors in minimizing the total expected loss due to machine failures. Based on these three important factors, this study established the following evaluation indices: (1) the processing performance index, (2) the repair reporting performance index, and (3) the maintenance performance index. These indices serve as tools for assessing the performance of the three key operational aspects. This study employed a radar chart to construct the evaluation model, which can directly compare the critical values with the point estimates of three indices. Consequently, this approach can judge whether the operational performance has achieved the required level. This can maintain the simplicity and usability of point estimates while reducing the risk of misjudgment due to sampling errors.

The size of peanut pods and seeds, which directly affects yield and quality, also has significant implications for mechanized production and market efficiency. Identifying relevant loci and mining candidate genes is crucial for cultivating high-yield peanut varieties. In this study, we employed advanced generation recombinant inbred lines developed by crossbreeding Huayu 44 and DF12 as the experimental material. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping for traits related to pod and seed size was conducted across six environments. A total of 44 QTLs were detected, distributed on chromosomes A02, A05, B04, B08, and B10. An enrichment region for multiple QTLs was also identified on chromosome A05 (19.28~52.32 cm). In this region, 10 KASP markers were developed, narrowing the enrichment area to two candidate gene hotspot regions of 600.9 kb and 721.2 kb. By combining gene prediction and functional annotation within the intervals, 10 candidate genes, including those encoding cytochrome P450 protein, polyamine synthase, mannose-1-phosphate guanylyltransferase, pentatricopeptide repeat protein, and E2F transcription factor, were identified as regulators of pod and seed size. This study provides technical support for the genetic improvement and key gene identification of peanut pod and seed size.

Low temperatures significantly affect the growth and yield of peanuts. Temperatures lower than 12 °C are generally detrimental for the germination of peanuts. To date, there has been no report on precise information on the quantitative trait loci (QTL) for cold tolerance during the germination in peanuts. In this study, we developed a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population comprising 807 RILs by tolerant and sensitive parents. Phenotypic frequencies of germination rate low-temperature conditions among RIL population showed normally distributed in five environments. Then, we constructed a high density SNP-based genetic linkage map through whole genome re-sequencing (WGRS) technique and identified a major quantitative trait locus (QTL), qRGRB09, on chromosome B09. The cold tolerance-related QTLs were repeatedly detected in all five environments, and the genetic distance was 6.01 cM (46.74 cM - 61.75 cM) after taking a union set. To further confirm that qRGRB09 was located on chromosome B09, we developed Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR (KASP) markers for the corresponding QTL regions. A regional QTL mapping analysis, which was conducted after taking the intersection of QTL intervals of all environments into account, confirmed that qRGRB09 was between the KASP markers, G22096 and G220967 (chrB09:155637831–155854093), and this region was 216.26 kb in size, wherein a total of 15 annotated genes were detected. This study illustrates the relevance of WGRS-based genetic maps for QTL mapping and KASP genotyping that facilitated QTL fine mapping of peanuts. The results of our study also provided useful information on the genetic architecture underlying cold tolerance during germination in peanuts, which in turn may be useful for those engaged in molecular studies as well as crop improvement in the cold-stressed environment.

Abstract Efficient red emissive carbon dots (CDs) in aqueous solutions are very scarce for high performance bioimaging applications. In this work, we report a one-step solvothermal treatment to synthesize pure red emissive CDs (FA-CDs) from citric acid and urea in formic acid without complicated purification procedures. Photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 43.4% was observed in their dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. High PLQY up to 21.9% in aqueous solutions was achieved in their bovine serum albumin (BSA) composites (FA-CDs@BSA) with significantly enhanced multi-photon fluorescence. The strong surface electron-withdrawing structure of FA-CDs caused by the high content of C = O groups contributes for their pure red emission. Owing to the significantly enhanced single and multi-photon red fluorescence and enlarged particle sizes after composing with BSA, in vivo tumor imaging and two-photon fluorescence imaging of blood vessels in mouse ear have been realized via intravenous injection of FA-CDs@BSA aqueous solutions.

A slab quality prediction model based on machine learning plays an important role in improving final slab quality. However, the class imbalance of continuous casting datasets has a negative impact on the training of basic machine-learning models. In this study, weighted extreme learning machine (WELM) models are constructed to predict the slab quality of under different operation patterns by feeding millions of data. The results show that WELM models can achieve better prediction performance on the two types of continuous casting datasets than the basic algorithms. The superiority of WELM is demonstrated by the relatively high-precision identification of every kind of slab. The performance of WELM models with different weighting schemes is studied and the model with the golden section ratio weighting method is recommended for application as a quality prediction model. Meanwhile, WELM can still maintain a good predictive performance and generalization ability when training a large amount of data. This model can satisfy the demands for slab quality prediction and optimize the continuous casting process.

Abstract Carbon dots (CDs) have attracted significant interest as one of the most emerging photoluminescence (PL) nanomaterials. However, the realization of CDs with dominant near‐infrared (NIR) absorption/emission peaks in aqueous solution remains a great challenge. Herein, CDs with both main NIR absorption bands at 720 nm and NIR emission bands at 745 nm in an aqueous solution are fabricated for the first time by fusing large conjugated perylene derivatives under solvothermal treatment. With post‐surface engineering, the polyethyleneimine modified CDs (PEI‐CDs) exhibit enhanced PL quantum yields (PLQY) up to 8.3% and 18.8% in bovine serum albumin aqueous and DMF solutions, which is the highest PLQY of CDs in NIR region under NIR excitation. Density functional theory calculations support the strategy of fusing large conjugated perylene derivatives to achieve NIR emissions from CDs. Compared to the commercial NIR dye Indocyanine green, PEI‐CDs exhibit excellent photostability and much lower cost. Furthermore, the obtained PEI‐CDs illustrate the advantages of remarkable two‐photon NIR angiography and in vivo NIR fluorescence bioimaging. This work demonstrates a promising strategy of fusing large conjugated molecules for preparing CDs with strong NIR absorption/emission to promote their bioimaging applications.

Fully room temperature three-dimensional (3D) shape-reprogrammable, recyclable, and photomobile azobenzene (azo) polymer actuators hold much promise in many photoactuating applications, but their development is challenging. Herein, we report on the efficient synthesis of a series of main-chain azo liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs) with such performances via Michael addition polymerization. They have both ester groups and two kinds of hydrogen bond-forming groups (i.e., amide and secondary amino groups) and different flexible spacer length in the backbones. Such poly(ester-amide-secondary amine)s (PEAsAs) show low glass transition temperatures (Tg ≤ 18.4 °C), highly ordered smectic liquid crystalline phases, and reversible photoresponsivity. Their uniaxially oriented fibers fabricated via the melt spinning method exhibit good mechanical strength and photoinduced reversible bending/unbending and large stress at room temperature, which are largely influenced by the flexible spacer length of the polymers. Importantly, all these fibers can be easily reprogrammed under strain at 25 °C into stable fiber springs capable of showing a totally different photomobile mode (i.e., unwinding/winding), mainly owing to the presence of low Tg and both dynamic hydrogen bonding and stable crystalline domains (induced by the uniaxial drawing during the fiber formation). They can also be recycled from a solution at 25 °C. This work not only presents the first azo LCPs with 3D shape reprogrammability, recyclability, and photomobility at room temperature, but also provides some important knowledge of their structure–property relationship, which is useful for designing more advanced photodeformable azo polymers.

Cold stress is a major environmental factor that affects plant growth and development, as well as fruit postharvest life and quality. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non-coding small RNAs that play crucial roles in various abiotic stresses. Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.), one of the most important grain legumes and source of edible oils and proteins, are cultivated in the semi-arid tropical and subtropical regions of the world. To date, there has been no report on the role of miRNAs in the response to cold stress in cultivated peanuts. In this study, we profiled cold-responsive miRNAs in peanuts using deep sequencing in cold-sensitive (WQL20) alongside a tolerant variety (WQL30). A total of 407 known miRNAs and 143 novel peanut-specific miRNAs were identified. The expression of selected known and novel miRNAs was validated by northern blotting and six known cold-responsive miRNAs were revealed. Degradome sequencing identified six cold-responsive miRNAs that regulate 12 target genes. The correlative expression patterns of several miRNAs and their target genes were further validated using qRT-PCR. Our data showed that miR160-ARF, miR482-WDRL, miR2118-DR, miR396-GRF, miR162-DCL, miR1511-SRF, and miR1511-SPIRAL1 modules may mediate cold stress responses. Transient expression analysis in Nicotiana benthamiana found that miR160, miR482, and miR2118 may play positive roles, and miR396, miR162, and miR1511 play negative roles in the regulation of peanut cold tolerance. Our results provide a foundation for understanding miRNA-dependent cold stress response in peanuts. The characterized correlations between miRNAs and their response to cold stress could serve as markers in breeding programs or tools for improving cold tolerance of peanuts.

Summary: Innate defensive responses, unlearned behaviors improving individuals’ chances of survival, have been found to involve the dopamine (DA) system. In the superior colliculus (SC), known for its role in defensive behaviors to visual threats, neurons expressing dopaminergic receptors of type 1 (Drd1+) and of type 2 (Drd2+) have been identified. We hypothesized that SC neurons expressing dopaminergic receptors may play a role in promoting innate defensive responses. Optogenetic activation of SC Drd2+ neurons, but not Drd1+ neurons, triggered defensive behaviors. Chemogenetic inhibition of SC Drd2+ neurons decreased looming-induced defensive behaviors, as well as pretreatment with the pharmacological Drd2+ agonist quinpirole, suggesting an essential role of Drd2 receptors in the regulation of innate defensive behavior. Input and output viral tracing revealed SC Drd2+ neurons mainly receive moderate inputs from the locus coeruleus (LC). Our results suggest a sophisticated regulatory role of DA and its receptor system in innate defensive behavior.

Reversible data hiding of encrypted images (RDHEI) is a technology where after the original image is encrypted with a key, secret data can be embedded in the encrypted image without knowing the information of the original image. In recent years, RDHEI has attracted much attention due to its security and effectiveness, and many RDHEI methods have been proposed. However, the capacity of embedded data is still not high enough. In this paper, a high-capacity RDHEI algorithm based on block-wise multi-predictor, and improved Huffman coding is proposed. First, the original image is divided into non-overlapping blocks. To better exploit the spatial correlation of the original image, 16 prediction models are used to predict the current pixel value from the neighboring pixels. All the pixels in one block use the same prediction model. The improved Huffman encoding is used to compress the prediction error image and the optimal prediction model determined by the sum of the absolute prediction errors, which makes more room for data embedding. The experimental results show that our method is superior to some of the latest algorithms in terms of achieving a higher embedding capacity.

The development of complex biological sample-compatible fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with improved performances is highly important for their real-world bioanalytical and biomedical applications. Herein, we report on the first hydrophilic “turn-on”-type fluorescent hollow MIP microparticles capable of directly, highly selectively, and rapidly optosensing hippuric acid (HA) in the undiluted human urine samples. These fluorescent hollow MIP microparticles were readily obtained through first the synthesis of core-shell-corona-structured nitrobenzoxadiazole (NBD)-labeled hydrophilic fluorescent MIP microspheres by performing one-pot surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization on the preformed “living” silica particles and subsequent removal of their silica core via hydrofluoric acid etching. They showed “turn-on” fluorescence and high optosensing selectivity and sensitivity toward HA in the artificial urine (the limit of detection = 0.097 μM) as well as outstanding photostability and reusability. Particularly, they exhibited much more stable aqueous dispersion ability, significantly faster optosensing kinetics, and higher optosensing sensitivity than their solid counterparts. They were also directly used for quantifying HA in the undiluted human urine with good recoveries (96.0%–102.0%) and high accuracy (RSD ≤ 4.0%), even in the presence of several analogues of HA. Such fluorescent hollow MIP microparticles hold much promise for rapid and accurate HA detection in the clinical diagnostic field.

The driving ranges of electric vehicles (EVs) will decrease greatly with increased use of the vehicle heating system in a cold climate. Air conditioning heat pump (ACHP) systems, which convert energy stored in the ambient environment into heat, represent a promising approach for increasing the EV driving range. In this work, the performance of an ACHP system in an EV under extremely cold conditions is investigated experimentally. The requirements of an ACHP system for EVs at various ambient temperatures are determined using our capacity matching strategy. A prototype system designed based on these requirements is evaluated. Data collected from experiments performed at a full-scale facility under extreme temperature conditions are analyzed. The results show that the ACHP system proposed for EV applications can satisfy both the cooling and heating requirements for the passenger compartment. The system increased the driving range by 23% when compared with that of an EV using a positive-temperature-coefficient (PTC) heater at −10 °C.

Abstract The current research of autonomous vehicle motion control mainly focuses on trajectory tracking and velocity tracking. However, numerous studies deal with trajectory tracking and velocity tracking separately, and the yaw stability is seldom considered during trajectory tracking. In this research, a combination of the longitudinal–lateral control method with the yaw stability in the trajectory tracking for autonomous vehicles is studied. Based on the vehicle dynamics, considering the longitudinal and lateral motion of the vehicle, the velocity tracking and trajectory tracking problems can be attributed to the longitudinal and lateral control. A sliding mode variable structure control method is used in the longitudinal control. The total driving force is obtained from the velocity error in order to carry out velocity tracking. A linear time-varying model predictive control method is used in the lateral control to predict the required front wheel angle for trajectory tracking. Furthermore, a combined control framework is established to control the longitudinal and lateral motions and improve the reliability of the longitudinal and lateral direction control. On this basis, the driving force of a tire is allocated reasonably by using the direct yaw moment control, which ensures good yaw stability of the vehicle when tracking the trajectory. Simulation results indicate that the proposed control strategy is good in tracking the reference velocity and trajectory and improves the performance of the stability of the vehicle.

A smartphone colorimetric sensor based on the Pt@Au nanozyme was successfully developed for the visual and quantitative detection of omethoate in fruit and vegetables. The anti-omethoate antibody was conjugated on the surface of the Pt@Au nanozyme as a catalytic functional signal probe, and coating antigen conjugated on the surface of magnetic polystyrene microspheres (MPMs) was used as a separation capture probe. In the sensing system, when the catalytic functional signal probe was combined with a separation capture probe containing no omethoate, the visible blue color appeared with the addition of tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) chromogenic solution, and the maximum B value of the sensing system was obtained via the smartphone. With increasing concentrations of omethoate, the visualization of the sensing system decreased, and the B-value obtained via the smartphone dropped. Under optimal detection conditions, the omethoate could be detected in a linear range of 0.5–50 μg/L (R2 = 0.9965), with a detection limit of 0.01 μg/L. The accuracy and reliability of the detection results of this colorimetric sensor were successfully confirmed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and gas chromatography. This colorimetric sensor provides a technical reference and potential strategy for the immunoassay of hazard factors in resource-scarce laboratories.

Photodeformable azobenzene (azo) polymers are a class of smart polymers that can efficiently convert light energy into mechanical power, holding great promise in various photoactuating applications. They are typically of crosslinked polymer networks with highly oriented azo mesogens embedded inside. Upon exposure to the light of appropriate wavelength, they experience dramatic order parameter change following the configuration change of the azo units. This could result in the generation and accumulation of the gradient microscopic photomechanical force in the crosslinked polymer networks, thus leading to their macroscopic deformation. So far, a great number of photodeformable azo polymers have been developed, including some unoriented ones showing photodeformation based on different mechanisms. Among them, photodeformable azo polymers with dynamic crosslinking networks (and some uncrosslinked ones) have aroused particular interest recently because of their obvious advantages over those with stable chemical crosslinking structures such as high recyclability and reprocessability. In this paper, I provide a detailed overview of the recent progress in such reprocessable photodeformable polymers. In addition, some challenges and perspectives are also presented.

Natural immunological tolerance can be induced in certain types of allogeneic liver transplantation in rats. To screen for genes associated with the induction of tolerance, suppression subtractive hybridization was performed in the rat liver transplantation model between a DA donor and PVG recipient combination where spontaneous immunological tolerance is known to occur without any immunosuppressive treatment. As a result, 112 genes were cloned from a DA liver graft that survived for 20 days in the fully allogeneic PVG recipient. After confirmation of the expression intensity using an in-house manufactured DNA array with cDNAs from the DA graft, 36 genes were classified in the highly expressed group and 26 moderately expressed group. In the first group, there were 8 immunoglobulin-related genes and 6 MHC class II-related genes, suggesting the existence of an underlying rejection response. Among those genes, an antiapoptotic gene in the p38 MAP kinase pathway, heme oxygenase gene (HO-1), and a ras cascade gene, IQ motif containing GTPase activating protein 1 (Iqgap1), retained biological significance. The results suggested that the molecular response to a liver graft tends to be antiapoptotic and to terminate the rejection response. Unfortunately, there was no gene identified that qualified as a putative immunosuppressive protein, liver suppressor factor-1 (LSF-1). The panel of genes identified in the present work will be a useful panel of candidate genes to investigate the induction of spontaneous tolerance.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) combined with hemoperfusion for the treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) complicated with acute kidney injury (AKI). Methods: Medical records of 73 patients with MM complicated with AKI admitted to the First People's Hospital of Huzhou from January 2019 to January 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the treatment records, 35 patients received simple chemotherapy (control group), and 38 patients received CVVH combined with HP on the basis of chemotherapy (observation group). We compared the clinical efficacies, renal function indexes, and the serum globulin and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) values between the two groups. Results: After the treatment, the total efficacy of the observation group was significantly higher (81.58%) than that in the control group (57.14%; p <0.05). Serum cystatin C (CysC), urea nitrogen (BUN), β2 macroglobulin (β2-MG) and creatinine (SCr) levels were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (p <0.05). Serum globulin level and ESR values in the observation group after the treatment were also significantly lower than in the control group (p <0.05). Conclusions: The outcomes of patients with MM complicated with AKI treated with CVVH and hemoperfusion differ significantly from those of the patients treated only with CVVH. Combining CVVH and hemoperfusion helps to improve the efficacy of the treatment, promotes renal function recovery, and improves the levels of serum globulin and ESR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is one of the most common types of epilepsy, yet approximately one-third of patients are refractory to current anticonvulsive drugs, which target neurons and synapses. Astrocytic and microglial dysfunction is commonly found in epileptic foci and has been shown to contribute to neuroinflammation and hyperexcitability in chronic epilepsy. Accumulating evidence points to a key role for glial hemichannels in epilepsy, but inhibiting both connexin (Cx) gap junctions and hemichannels can lead to undesirable side effects because the former coordinate physiological functions of cell assemblies. It would be a great benefit to use an orally available small molecule to block hemichannels to alleviate epileptic symptoms. Here, we explored the effect of D4, a newly developed compound that inhibits the Cx hemichannels but not Cx gap junctions using the pilocarpine mouse model of TLE. In vitro application of D4 caused a near-complete reduction in the pilocarpine-induced cell membrane permeability associated with increased Cx hemichannel activity. Moreover, preadministration of D4 in vivo effectively reduced neuroinflammation and altered synaptic inhibition, which then enhanced the animal survival rate. Posttreatment with a single dose of D4 in vivo has prolonged effects on suppressing the activation of astrocytes and microglia and rescued the changes in neuroinflammatory and synaptic gene expression induced by pilocarpine. Collectively, these results indicate that targeting Cx hemichannels by D4 is an effective and promising strategy for treating epilepsy in which neuroinflammation plays a critical role. On the basis of previous studies, the factors affecting the behaviours of SiC whisker dispersion are analyzed. The main contents of the analysis are:The impact on silicon carbide whisker in aqueous medium relative sedimentation height and surface potential value are made by the changes of the pH value. The impact on the silicon carbide whiskers and silicon carbide particles of two different crystal surface zeta potential made by the change of pH value, effects that SHP and CMC, two kinds of dispersants have on the relative settling height of silicon carbide whiskers and the infrared spectroscopy analysis before and after using the two dispersants. It is concluded that, without dispersing agent, the stable dispersion system of silicon carbide whisker is difficult to obtain by adjusting the pH value, and the morphological characteristics of the silicon carbide crystal have obvious influence on the dynamic potential on the surface. The dispersion mechanism of the two dispersants is different, in which the dispersion mechanism of SHP is to improve the repulsion of the surface of the material, and the dispersion mechanism of CMC is to increase the hydrophilicity of the surface of the material and increase the absolute value of the potential of the whisker surface. Study is conducted to demonstrate that a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) can function as effective nanoreactors for Huisen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azides and alkynes, providing high productivity high product regioselectivity and faster reaction kinetics. The MIP nanoreactors show remarkable selectivity towards the reactant structure and the present imprinted cavities bind reactants by means of only nonconvalent molecular interactions.

The synthesis of a series of novel photoresponsive side-chain liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs) bearing an N-hydroxysuccinimide carboxylate-substituted azobenzene mesogen and their use in generating LCP networks are described. The obtained polymers and their monomers were characterized with 1H NMR, UV-vis, TGA, DSC, POM and SAXS techniques. The length of the flexible spacers in the polymers and their monomers show significant influence on their properties such as the phase transition behaviors and the monomer reactivity. The polymerization reactivity of the monomers increases with an increase in the spacer length and only those monomers and polymers with a flexible spacer ≥ (CH2)6show liquid crystallinity with their mesophases being smectic A. In addition, the polymers have proven to be easily cross-linkable with a difunctional primary amine under mild conditions both in solution and in film, demonstrating that they are very useful precursors for photoresponsive LCP networks. Furthermore, the photoresponsivity of the polymer solution in tetrahydrofuran and the crosslinked polymer film was also confirmed by their occurrence of the UV and visible light-induced trans/cisphotoisomerization. Categorizing chemicals is an approach with the potential to reduce animal testing for hazard assessment of chemicals. In this study we investigated the category approach for testing the hemolytic effects of ethylene glycol alkyl ethers (EGAEs) for repeated-dose toxicity (RDT). Using mechanistic information on the hemolytic effects of ethylene glycol butyl ether, a toxicologically meaningful category was built on the basis of similarity of metabolism, mode of action and the hemolytic effects of several EGAEs and related chemicals. The developed category was then evaluated for analogs from a different data source. Given all structural information on category chemicals, the category can be finally defined as EGAEs (alkyl chain carbon number: 1-4) and their acetates. Current RDT test data suggest that EGAEs with 3 and 4 alkyl carbons primarily cause hemolytic effects, while EGAEs with 1 and 2 alkyl carbon(s) show toxicity to the testis before demonstrating any hemolytic effects. Hence, the category approach appears to be applicable to hemolytic effects of EGAEs with 3 and 4 alkyl carbons and their acetates to estimate the no observable adverse effect level (NOAEL) for RDT. It consists of three steps: structure-based primary screening of untested chemicals, categorization of compounds that form hemolytic alkoxyacetic acids by predicting how they are metabolized, and finally estimation of hemolytic levels by employing read-across.
