Background: Veno‐arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V‐A ECMO) is increasingly utilized in pediatric patients. Failure to recognize membrane oxygenator failure can lead to critical complications due to rapid deterioration of membrane oxygenator function. Therefore, identifying the predictors for membrane oxygenator exchange is crucial. However, risk factors for membrane oxygenator exchange in pediatric V‐A ECMO remain unclear; therefore, this study aimed to evaluate these risk factors. Methods: This retrospective cohort study enrolled all pediatric patients aged <18 years who received V‐A ECMO between August 2018 and July 2023 at a tertiary‐care pediatric hospital in Japan. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to evaluate the predictors of membrane oxygenator failure within 72 h after initiation. Results: During the study period, membrane oxygenator failure occurred in 18/55 (32.7%) children within 72 h; membrane oxygenator failure within 72 h occurred in 4/29 (13.8%) and 14/26 (53.8%) in the groups with ratio of blood flow divided by the blood flow limit of the membrane oxygenator (B/L) of <0.5 and ≥0.5, respectively (adjusted hazards ratio, 4.97 [95% confidence interval, 1.33–18.5]; p = 0.017). After adjusting for delta pressure of the oxygenator, an increase in body weight and aspartate aminotransferase levels were associated with an increase in early membrane oxygenator failure. Conclusions: This retrospective study demonstrated that a B/L ratio >0.5, an increase in body weight, and elevated aspartate aminotransferase were independent risk factors for early membrane oxygenator failure in pediatric V‐A ECMO. However, a prospective multicenter study with an appropriate sample size is warranted to mitigate potential bias, and enhance generalizability for further investigation of the association between a B/L ratio and early membrane oxygenator failure. In recent years, the human-to-human and human-to-things relationships are becoming complicated and unreliable, which makes harder decisions in a variety of situations. As a result, trust computing is gaining interest in a number of research fields. The Logical Trust (LT) is one of trust computing concepts. In this paper, we design a Fuzzy-based System for Decision of Logical Trust (FSDLT). We implement two models: FSDLTM1 and FSDLTM2. The FSDLTM1 considers three input parameters: Belief (Be), Experience (Ep), Rationality (Ra) and the output parameter is LT. In FSDLTM2, we consider Reliability (Re) as a new parameter. We evaluated the implemented models by computer simulations. The simulation results show that when Be, Ep, Ra and Re are increasing, the LT is increased. For FSDLTM1, when Ep value is 0.9, all LT values are greater than 0.5. While for FSDLTM2, in case when Be is 0.9, for all values of Ra and Re, when Ep is 0.5 and 0.9, all LT values are higher than 0.5. This shows that the person or device is trustworthy. The FSDLTM2 is more complex than FSALTM1 but it makes a better decision for LT by considering four input parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An OLED display with CAAC‐OS FETs monolithically stacked over SiFETs, capable of 32‐division control of resolution and frame rate, was fabricated. This enables display that conforms with foveal characteristics, thereby reducing the power consumed during operation. The display can be driven at 120 Hz, with reduced data transmission. In the next generation wireless networks, the number of connected terminals to the network, communication protocols, and the channels available will be increased, thus network slicing will become more important. Also, vehicles, buses, trains and motorcycles are considered communication terminals. These communication terminals should have independent network management considering their movement such as joining and leaving the networks. Therefore, Delay-Disruption-Disconnection Tolerant Networking (DTN) has been attracting attention for their potential support of inter-vehicle communication. In this paper are presented the Contact-Time (CT) based and Adaptive-Timer (AT) based Message Suppression (MS) methods for Vehicular DTN. For the CT-based MS method are used three DTN protocols for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication. For AT-based MS are used conventional Epidemic and two proposed Epidemic-based methods for V2V communication. We compare MS method, Message Suppression Controller (MSC) and MSC with Adaptive Threshold (MSC-ATh). The simulation results show that MSC-ATh performs better than other approaches. The storage consumption is improved when the number of vehicles increases and there is no reduction in PDR even if the message suppression is enabled. For Epidemic, when the number of Road-Side Units (RSUs) is 16, the results of PDR are the best compared with other DTN protocols. The MSC-ATh method is about 22% better than Epidemic for storage consumption. Also, the delay performance of MSC-ATh is improved by increasing the Suppression Coefficients (SCs) and number of vehicles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a metamaterial-based super-oscillatory lens (SOL) fabricated by photolithography on a glass substrate and designed to operate at sub-terahertz (sub-THz) frequencies. The lens consists of repeating crisscross patterns of five-ring slits with sub-wavelength diameter. The lens is capable of generating multiple focal points smaller than the diffraction limit, thereby allowing many points to be inspected simultaneously with sub-wavelength resolution. After elucidating the influence of the lens parameters on light collection through calculations by the finite element method, the fabricated lens was then evaluated through actual experiments and found to have a focal length of 7.5 mm (2.5λ) and a hot spot size of 2.01 mm (0.67λ) at 0.1 THz (λ = 3 mm), which is 0.27 times the diffraction limit of the lens. This demonstrated sub-diffraction focusing capability is highly effective for industrial inspection applications utilizing terahertz waves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drivers are held responsible for the vast majority of traffic accidents. While most of the errors that cause these accidents are involuntary, a significant number of them are caused by irresponsible driving behaviors, which must be utterly preventable. Irresponsible driving, in addition, is often associated with the stress drivers experience while driving. We have previously implemented an intelligent system based on fuzzy logic for determining driver's stress in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs), called Fuzzy-based System for Determining the Stress Feeling Level (FSDSFL), considering the driver's impatience, the behavior of other drivers, and the traffic condition as input parameters. In this work, we present an Improved FSDSFL (IFSDSFL) system, which considers the driving experience and history as an additional input. We show through simulations the effect that driving experience and history and the other parameters have on the determination of the stress feeling level and demonstrate some actions that can be performed when the stress exceeds certain levels. Although most of the errors causing these accidents are involuntary, a significant number of them are caused by irresponsible driving behaviors, which must be utterly preventable. Irresponsible driving, on the other hand, is often associated with driver stress and the impatience they show while driving. In this paper, we consider the factors that cause drivers to become impatient and experience stress and propose an integrated fuzzy logic system that determines the stress level in real time. Based on the stress level, the proposed system can take the appropriate action that improves the driving situation and consequently road safety. By using inputs, such as the unnecessary maneuvers that drivers make, the time pressure, and the number of times they are forced to stop, a fuzzy logic controller determines the driver's impatience, which is then considered alongside other factors, such as the driving experience and history, the behavior of other drivers, and the traffic condition to determine the stress level. We show, through simulations, the feasibility of the proposed approach to accurately determine driver stress and demonstrate some actions that can be performed when stress exceeds certain levels. This paper proposes an accurate four-transistor temperature sensor designed, and developed, for thermal testing and monitoring circuits in deep submicron technologies. A previous three-transistor temperature sensor, which utilizes the temperature characteristic of the threshold voltage, shows highly linear characteristics at a power supply voltage of 1.8 V or more; however, the supply voltage is reduced to 1 V in a 90-nm CMOS process. Since the temperature coefficient of the operating point's current at a 1-V supply voltage is steeper than the coefficient at a 1.8-V supply voltage, the operating point's current at high temperature becomes quite small and the output voltage goes into the subthreshold region or the cutoff region. Therefore, the operating condition of the conventional temperature sensor cannot be satisfied at 1-V supply and this causes degradation of linearity. To improve linearity at a 1-V supply voltage, one transistor is added to the conventional sensor. This additional transistor, which works in the saturation region, changes the temperature coefficient gradient of the operating point's current and moves the operating points at each temperature to appropriate positions within the targeted temperature range. The sensor features an extremely small area of 11.6 X 4.1 [micro] [m.sup.2] and low power consumption of about 25[micro]W. The performance of the sensor is highly linear and the predicted temperature error is merely -1.0 to + 0.8 [degrees]C using a two-point calibration within the range of 50 [degrees]C to 125 [degrees] C. The sensor has been implemented in the ASPLA CMOS 90-nm 1P7M process and has been tested successfully with a supply voltage of 1 V. The Software-Defined Network (SDN) with Network Slicing will be a good approach for admission control in the Fifth Generation (5G) wireless network, which is planned to be adaptable to meet user requirements. The system's resources are limited, and the number of devices is growing much faster than it can handle. So, the overloading problem will be a very critical problem. To deal with these problems, this paper presents a Fuzzy-based Scheme for Service Level Agreement (SLA) evaluation (FSSLA). We compare two models: FSSLA1 and FSSLA2. The FSSLA1 considers three input parameters: Reliability (Re), Availability (Av), Latency (La) and the output parameter is SLA. In FSSLA2, we consider Traffic Load (Tl) as a new parameter. From simulation results, we conclude that the considered parameters have different effects on the SLA. When Re and Av are increasing, the SLA parameter is increased but when La and Tl are increasing, the SLA parameter is decreased. When the Tl value is changed from 20% to 80%, the SLA is decreased by 16.62% when Re 10%, Av 90% and the La value is 1 ms. When the Re is increased from 10% to 90% and 50% to 90% and the Tl value is 50%, the Av is 50% and the La is 1 ms, the SLA is increased by 22.76% and 11.38%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
