Abstract Establishing dependable, cost-effective electrical connections is vital for enhancing device performance and shrinking electronic circuits. MXenes, combining excellent electrical conductivity, high breakdown voltage, solution processability, and two-dimensional morphology, are promising candidates for contacts in microelectronics. However, their hydrophilic surfaces, which enable spontaneous environmental degradation and poor dispersion stability in organic solvents, have restricted certain electronic applications. Herein, electrohydrodynamic printing technique is used to fabricate fully solution-processed thin-film transistors with alkylated 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine functionalized Ti3C2T x (AD-MXene) as source, drain, and gate electrodes. The AD-MXene has excellent dispersion stability in ethanol, which is required for electrohydrodynamic printing, and maintains high electrical conductivity. It outperformed conventional vacuum-deposited Au and Al electrodes, providing thin-film transistors with good environmental stability due to its hydrophobicity. Further, thin-film transistors are integrated into logic gates and one-transistor-one-memory cells. This work, unveiling the ligand-functionalized MXenes’ potential in printed electrical contacts, promotes environmentally robust MXene-based electronics (MXetronics).

Abstract Although clinker has been used for many years, complicated mineralogical properties of clinker pose challenges for the precise quantification. In this study, the mineralogical and crystallographic properties of nine different clinkers according to grinding procedures were investigated. With the dry-grinding for 2 h, particle size reduction to 3 μm of median particle size with a substantial phase transition to an amorphous phase observed, to which alite (C3S) mainly contributed to the transition. Meanwhile, the crystallographic properties of the clinker phases were barely changed during the wet-grinding. In the wet-grinding program, the amount of ferrite solid solution (C4AF) with a high linear absorption coefficient was not underestimated. Furthermore, well-corrected preferred orientation effect on C3S was positively contributed to the analysis result of clinkers with the wet-grinding. Hence, it was suggested that the crystallographic effects observed in the wet-grinding program could produce more reliable results in phase analysis for the clinkers.

Abstract Shape memory polymers (SMPs) undergo changes between arbitrary shapes and programmed shapes upon exposure to specific stimulus, allowing them to restore their original shape. All kinds of external stimuli have a threshold to change the shape of the SMP. Especially, for the thermal type SMP, the critical temperature for shape restoration is typically near the glass transition temperature (Tg). In this study, the controllability of the restoration temperature is analyzed by adjusting the Tg of the polymer using Norland Optical Adhesive 63, which can be cured with UV irradiation. By varying the ambient temperature from 20 to 120 °C during UV exposure, Tg changes ranging from 35.84 to 50.50 °C are obtained, with corresponding changes in restoration temperature. As a practical application, a thermal‐activated SMP dry adhesive is developed with programmable Tg and switchable adhesion. The fabricated SMP dry adhesive exhibited strong adhesion to substrates with various surface roughness. Additionally, the shape memory effect allowed for easy detachment through shape recovery, and different adhesive performances at different temperatures are achieved by programming various Tg values. Moreover, the simple manufacturing process of the SMP dry adhesive is confirmed to be suitable for continuous fabrication processes based on roll‐to‐roll methods.

Cementitious materials as a medium of carbon capture, and utilization (CCU) have recently attracted considerable attentions. Atmospheric CO2 can be absorbed in hardened concrete, which can be also accelerated by early age CO2 curing. Compared to the CO2 curing of concrete materials, in-situ CO2 mixing technology can be widely applied because it can be used in a batch plant without an additional curing facility. In this study, the CO2 mixing time was set as the primary variable to elucidate the precipitation of the carbonate phases in the early stages and its effect on cement hydration. The dissociated CO2 is directly mineralized into calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in calcite phase. In addition, the longer the CO2 mixing time, the greater the precipitation of calcite (i.e., CCU capacity), thereby densifying the internal microstructure and improving early strength development. Interestingly, a certain amount of calcite converted to monocarboaluminate—an important factor for quantitatively assessing the degree of mineral carbonation in cementitious materials.

Recently, various text-to-image generative models have been released, demonstrating their ability to generate high-quality synthesized images from text prompts. Despite these advancements, determining the appropriate text prompts to obtain desired images remains challenging. The quality of the synthesized images heavily depends on the user input, making it difficult to achieve consistent and satisfactory results. This limitation has sparked the need for an effective prompt optimization method to generate optimized text prompts automatically for text-to-image generative models. Thus, this study proposes a prompt optimization method that uses in-context few-shot learning in a pretrained language model. The proposed approach aims to generate optimized text prompts to guide the image synthesis process by leveraging the available contextual information in a few text examples. The results revealed that synthesized images using the proposed prompt optimization method achieved a higher performance, at 18% on average, based on an evaluation metric that measures the similarity between the generated images and prompts for generation. The significance of this research lies in its potential to provide a more efficient and automated approach to obtaining high-quality synthesized images. The findings indicate that prompt optimization may offer a promising pathway for text-to-image generative models.

In this paper, we prove the structural stability for a family of scalar reaction-diffusion equations. Our arguments consist of using invariant manifold theorem to reduce the problem to a finite dimension and then, we use the structural stability of Morse–Smale flows in a finite dimension to obtain the corresponding result in infinite dimension. As a consequence, we obtain the optimal rate of convergence of the attractors and estimate the Gromov–Hausdorff distance of the attractors using continuous $\varepsilon$-isometries.

Zastaprazan (JP-1366), a novel potassium-competitive acid blocker, is a new drug for the treatment of erosive esophagitis. JP-1366 is highly metabolized in human, mouse, and dog hepatocytes but moderately metabolized in rat and monkey hepatocytes when estimated from the metabolic stability of this compound in hepatocyte suspension and when 18 phase I metabolites and 5 phase II metabolites [i.e., N-dearylation (M6), hydroxylation (M1, M19, M21), dihydroxylation (M7, M8, M14, M22), trihydroxylation (M13, M18), hydroxylation and reduction (M20), dihydroxylation and reduction (M9, M16), hydrolysis (M23), hydroxylation and glucuronidation (M11, M15), hydroxylation and sulfation (M17), dihydroxylation and sulfation (M10, M12), N-dearylation and hydroxylation (M3, M4), N-dearylation and dihydroxylation (M5), and N-dearylation and trihydroxylation (M2)] were identified from JP-1366 incubation with the hepatocytes from humans, mice, rats, dogs, and monkeys. Based on the cytochrome P450 (CYP) screening test and immune-inhibition analysis with CYP antibodies, CYP3A4 and CYP3A5 played major roles in the metabolism of JP-1366 to M1, M3, M4, M6, M8, M9, M13, M14, M16, M18, M19, M21, and M22. CYP1A2, 2C8, 2C9, 2C19, and 2D6 played minor roles in the metabolism of JP-1366. UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 2B7 and UGT2B17 were responsible for the glucuronidation of M1 to M15. However, JP-1366 and active metabolite M1 were not substrates for drug transporters such as organic cation transporter (OCT) 1/2, organic anion transporter (OAT) 1/3, organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP)1B1/1B3, multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE)1/2K, P-glycoprotein (P-gp), and breast cancer-resistant protein (BCRP). Only M1 showed substrate specificity for P-gp. The findings indicated that drug-metabolizing enzymes, particularly CYP3A4/3A5, may have a significant role in determining the pharmacokinetics of zastaprazan while drug transporters may only have a small impact on the absorption, distribution, and excretion of this compound.

Abstract Background There are currently no disease-modifying therapeutics for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Although extensive efforts were undertaken to develop therapeutic approaches to delay the symptoms of PD, untreated α-synuclein (α-syn) aggregates cause cellular toxicity and stimulate further disease progression. PROTAC (Proteolysis-Targeting Chimera) has drawn attention as a therapeutic modality to target α-syn. However, no PROTACs have yet shown to selectively degrade α-syn aggregates mainly owing to the limited capacity of the proteasome to degrade aggregates, necessitating the development of novel approaches to fundamentally eliminate α-syn aggregates. Methods We employed AUTOTAC (Autophagy-Targeting Chimera), a macroautophagy-based targeted protein degradation (TPD) platform developed in our earlier studies. A series of AUTOTAC chemicals was synthesized as chimeras that bind both α-syn aggregates and p62/SQSTM1/Sequestosome-1, an autophagic receptor. The efficacy of Autotacs was evaluated to target α-syn aggregates to phagophores and subsequently lysosomes for hydrolysis via p62-dependent macroautophagy. The target engagement was monitored by oligomerization and localization of p62 and autophagic markers. The therapeutic efficacy to rescue PD symptoms was characterized in cultured cells and mice. The PK/PD (pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics) profiles were investigated to develop an oral drug for PD. Results ATC161 induced selective degradation of α-syn aggregates at DC50 of ~ 100 nM. No apparent degradation was observed with monomeric α-syn. ATC161 mediated the targeting of α-syn aggregates to p62 by binding the ZZ domain and accelerating p62 self-polymerization. These p62-cargo complexes were delivered to autophagic membranes for lysosomal degradation. In PD cellular models, ATC161 exhibited therapeutic efficacy to reduce cell-to-cell transmission of α-syn and to rescue cells from the damages in DNA and mitochondria. In PD mice established by injecting α-syn preformed fibrils (PFFs) into brain striata via stereotaxic surgery, oral administration of ATC161 at 10 mg/kg induced the degradation of α-syn aggregates and reduced their propagation. ATC161 also mitigated the associated glial inflammatory response and improved muscle strength and locomotive activity. Conclusion AUTOTAC provides a platform to develop drugs for PD. ATC161, an oral drug with excellent PK/PD profiles, induces selective degradation of α-syn aggregates in vitro and in vivo. We suggest that ATC161 is a disease-modifying drug that degrades the pathogenic cause of PD.

Hydrogen is one of the most promising green energy alternatives due to its high gravimetric energy density, zero-carbon emissions, and other advantages. In this work, a CoFeBP micro-flower (MF) electrocatalyst is fabricated as an advanced water-splitting electrocatalyst by a hydrothermal approach for hydrogen production with the highly efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The fabrication process of the CoFeBP MF electrocatalyst is systematically optimized by thorough investigations on various hydrothermal synthesis and post-annealing parameters. The best optimized CoFeBP MF electrode demonstrates HER/OER overpotentials of 20 mV and 219 mV at 20 mA/cm2. The CoFeBP MFs also exhibit a low 2-electrode (2-E) cell voltage of 1.60 V at 50 mA/cm2, which is comparable to the benchmark electrodes of Pt/C and RuO2. The CoFeBP MFs demonstrate excellent 2-E stability of over 100 h operation under harsh industrial operational conditions at 60 °C in 6 M KOH at a high current density of 1000 mA/cm2. The flower-like morphology can offer a largely increased electrochemical active surface area (ECSA), and systematic post-annealing can lead to improved crystallinity in CoFeBP MFs.

Acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) is a sphingolipid metabolizing enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin to ceramide, and previous work has shown it is upregulated in models of Alzheimer’s disease. Here the authors demonstrate in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease that antibody-based immunotherapy targeting plasma ASM resulted in attenuated neuropathological features by suppressing pathogenic Th17 cells.

In this study, a multi-level path planning system is proposed for indoor search and rescue operations. Requirements for the path planning system are derived based on the operational concept of the integrated indoor navigation system. Different aspects of various path planning algorithms are assessed, and their suitability to search and rescue operations in structured indoor environments is investigated. A five-step path planning system is proposed, which consists of map pre-processing, segment path planning, graph processing, route optimization, and path post-processing. The proposed method addresses a multi-goal path planning problem in a multi-story building in a computationally efficient way by adopting a graph-based approach while satisfying such requirements as clearance conditions in the pre- and post-processing steps. Furthermore, a multi-query approach is adopted to exploit the response time and earn flexibility with respect to environmental changes. The effectiveness of the proposed path planning system is demonstrated through numerical simulations. The proposed multi-level path planning system successfully adapts to complex indoor environments, enabling more effective navigation for search and rescue operations. Additionally, the system exhibits a high degree of flexibility in response to environmental changes, ensuring that the path planning remains robust and reliable even in dynamically changing situations.

Proton exchange membranes are an essential component of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). Their performance is directly related to the development of ionic channel networks through hydration. Current sensing atomic force microscopy (CSAFM) can map the local conductance and morphology of a sample surface with sub-nano resolution simultaneously by applying a bias voltage between the conducting tip and sample holder. In this study, the ionic channel network variation of Nafion by hydration has been quantitatively characterized based on the basic principles of electrodynamics and CSAFM. A nano-sized PEMFC has been created using a Pt-coated tip of CSAFM and one side Pt-coated Nafion, and studied under different relative humidity (RH) conditions. The results have been systematically analyzed. First, the morphology of PEMFC under each RH has been studied using line profile and surface roughness. Second, the CSAFM image has been analyzed statistically through the peak value and full-width half-maximum of the histograms. Third, the number of protons moving through the ionic channel network (NPMI) has been derived and used to understand ionic channel network variation by hydration. This study develops a quantitative method to comprehend variations in the ionic channel network by calculating the movement of protons into the ionic channel network based on CSAFM images. To verify the method, a comparison is made between the NPMI and the changes in proton conductivity under different RH conditions and it reveals a good agreement. This developed method can offer a quantitative approach for characterizing the morphological structure of PEM. Also, it can provide a quantitative tool for interpretating CSAFM images.

Abstract Bulk heterojunction (BHJ) composites show improved power conversion efficiencies when optimized in terms of morphology using various film processing methods. A reduced carrier recombination loss in an optimized BHJ was characterized previously. However, the driving force that leads to this reduction was not clearly understood. In this study, we focus on the decreased carrier recombination loss and its driving force in optimized nonfullerene acceptor‐based PTB7‐Th:IEICO‐4F BHJ composites. We demonstrate that the optimized BHJ shows deactivation in the sub‐nanosecond nongeminate carrier recombination process. The driving force for this deactivation was determined to be the improved interchain hole delocalization between the polymers. An enhanced interchain hole delocalization was observed using steady‐state photoinduced absorption (PIA) spectroscopy. In particular, increased splitting between the polaron PIA bands was noted. Moreover, improved interchain hole delocalization was observed for other state‐of‐the‐art BHJ materials, including D18:Y6 with optimized morphologies.

Solvent rinse treatments using polar methanol (MeOH) and nonpolar n-hexane have been developed for controlling material concentration gradients along the longitudinal direction of non-fullerene acceptor-based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) films comprised of electron donor polymer, PBDB-T and acceptor, ITIC-m. Before the used solvents (chlorobenzene with 1 vol% DIO) were completely evaporated, ITIC-m rich domains were formed at the top surface of the BHJ films after they were rinsed with MeOH, as evidenced by water contact angle, atomic force microscopy, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy, which led to enhanced electron transport in the conventional structure of organic solar cells (OSCs). In contrast, after rinsing with n-hexane, ITIC-m rich domains were formed at the bottom surface of the films, which improved electron transport in the inverted structure OSCs. The enhanced carrier transports increased the PCEs (11.80% and 11.15%) in both conventional and inverted OSCs by 10.29% and 10.35% compared with control devices. The versatile control of material concentration gradients is determined to be feasible owing to the chemical interaction of the used substrates (glass, PEDOT:PSS, and ZnO) and rinsing solvents.

The pollution of air and water with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), both hazardous and odorous, is of significant concern due to impacts on human health and quality of life, as well as the environment. South Korea is a highly industrialized and densely populated nation and suffers from significant VOC and ozone pollution. In recent years, South Korea has implemented more stringent controls on industry to address air and water pollution, requiring more real-time and on-site analysis. The selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) technique has been increasingly adopted to monitor source emissions and their dispersion, enabling a more rapid response to pollution incidents. To this end, the flexibility of SIFT-MS instrumentation for both laboratory- and field-based analysis, including in mobile laboratories, has been valuable. SIFT-MS has been applied to emission source characterization, fenceline monitoring, ambient monitoring, pollution mapping, and incident response (including the use of drone-based sampling) for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), odor nuisance species, and compounds that have high ozone formation potential (OFP) and/or contribute to secondary aerosol (SOA) formation. This review summarizes the South Korean application of SIFT-MS to the monitoring of VOC pollutants.

Study region: Sangdo-dong, Dongjak-gu, which is classified as inland water disaster risk zone within Seoul, Republic of Korea. Study focus: This study evaluated the amount of flooding that could occur in the carbon-neutral era, and optimized low-impact development (LID) technology for an urban flood adaptation. The optimal scenario of LID technologies was proposed for the Sangdo-dong area at the urban level, and the amount of runoff and flood reduction was evaluated. New hydrological insights: The LID controls provided by the storm water management model were used to analyze the flood damage that may occur under RCP 2.6 scenario. The evaluation simulated eight combinations of three optimized techniques: green roofs, permeable pavements, and vegetative swales to construct evidence-based data for the use by decision makers. In Scenario 8, which was evaluated as the most efficient, both peak and total flooding could be reduced by 55–60% respectively. This study not only evaluate the runoff but also the flooding value reflecting the interactions among LID-pipe networks. The LID installation area and runoff damage scale are inversely proportional. In contrast, as total flooding considers the capacity of the sewage network, a non uniform graph can be seen compared to the runoff. Results of this study can be used as guidance for LID evidence-based design and construction as well as strategies for decision maker.

Doxorubicin (DOX), a widely used drug in cancer chemotherapy, induces cell death via multiple intracellular interactions, generating reactive oxygen species and DNA-adducted configurations that induce apoptosis, topoisomerase II inhibition, and histone eviction. Despite its wide therapeutic efficacy in solid tumors, DOX often induces drug resistance and cardiotoxicity. It shows limited intestinal absorption because of low paracellular permeability and P-glycoprotein (P-gp)-mediated efflux. We reviewed various parenteral DOX formulations, such as liposomes, polymeric micelles, polymeric nanoparticles, and polymer-drug conjugates, under clinical use or trials to increase its therapeutic efficacy. To improve the bioavailability of DOX in intravenous and oral cancer treatment, studies have proposed a pH- or redox-sensitive and receptor-targeted system for overcoming DOX resistance and increasing therapeutic efficacy without causing DOX-induced toxicity. Multifunctional formulations of DOX with mucoadhesiveness and increased intestinal permeability through tight-junction modulation and P-gp inhibition have also been used as orally bioavailable DOX in the preclinical stage. The increasing trends of developing oral formulations from intravenous formulations, the application of mucoadhesive technology, permeation-enhancing technology, and pharmacokinetic modulation with functional excipients might facilitate the further development of oral DOX.

Understanding the ionic structure and charge transport on proton exchange membranes (PEMs) is crucial for their characterization and development. Electrostatic force microscopy (EFM) is one of the best tools for studying the ionic structure and charge transport on PEMs. In using EFM to study PEMs, an analytical approximation model is required for the interoperation of the EFM signal. In this study, we quantitatively analyzed recast Nafion and silica–Nafion composite membranes using the derived mathematical approximation model. The study was conducted in several steps. In the first step, the mathematical approximation model was derived using the principles of electromagnetism and EFM and the chemical structure of PEM. In the second step, the phase map and charge distribution map on the PEM were simultaneously derived using atomic force microscopy. In the final step, the charge distribution maps of the membranes were characterized using the model. There are several remarkable results in this study. First, the model was accurately derived as two independent terms. Each term shows the electrostatic force due to the induced charge of the dielectric surface and the free charge on the surface. Second, the local dielectric property and surface charge are numerically calculated on the membranes, and the calculation results are approximately valid compared with those in other studies.

In this study, a novel framework for the flight control of a morphing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on linear parameter-varying (LPV) methods is proposed. A high-fidelity nonlinear model and LPV model of an asymmetric variable-span morphing UAV were obtained using the NASA generic transport model. The left and right wing span variation ratios were decomposed into symmetric and asymmetric morphing parameters, which were then used as the scheduling parameter and the control input, respectively. LPV-based control augmentation systems were designed to track the normal acceleration, angle of sideslip, and roll rate commands. The span morphing strategy was investigated considering the effects of morphing on various factors to aid the intended maneuver. Autopilots were designed using LPV methods to track commands for airspeed, altitude, angle of sideslip, and roll angle. A nonlinear guidance law was coupled with the autopilots for three-dimensional trajectory tracking. A numerical simulation was performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

A target tracking system with a laser rangefinder is developed, and the performance of the developed system is verified by a numerical simulation and field tests. To develop the target tracking system, appropriate coordinate systems, motion models, and estimation methods are selected, and a range filter is designed to compensate for the measurement errors of the laser rangefinder. The range filter independently processes the range measurements so that the target filter continuously produces the target information. The entire target tracking system development process is described in detail to facilitate future work of a similar nature. A scenario-based Monte Carlo simulation is performed to compare the performances of various state estimation methods. Experimental tests involving a low-speed fishing boat and a drone are performed to verify the performance and effectiveness of the proposed scheme. A separate performance analysis program with a graphical user interface is developed to analyze the simulation and field test results.

Pristine MXene films express outstanding excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding properties. Nevertheless, the poor mechanical properties (weak and brittle nature) and easy oxidation of MXene films hinder their practical applications. This study demonstrates a facile strategy for simultaneously improving the mechanical flexibility and the EMI shielding of MXene films. In this study, dicatechol-6 (DC), a mussel-inspired molecule, was successfully synthesized in which DC as mortars was crosslinked with MXene nanosheets (MX) as bricks to create the brick-mortar structure of the MX@DC film. The resulting MX@DC-2 film has a toughness of 40.02 kJ·m−3 and Young’s modulus of 6.2 GPa, which are improvements of 513% and 849%, respectively, compared to those of the bare MXene films. The coating of electrically insulating DC significantly reduced the in-plane electrical conductivity from 6491 S·cm−1 for the bare MXene film to 2820 S·cm−1 for the MX@DC-5 film. However, the EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of the MX@DC-5 film reached 66.2 dB, which is noticeably greater than that of the bare MX film (61.5 dB). The enhancement in EMI SE resulted from the highly ordered alignment of the MXene nanosheets. The synergistic concurrent enhancement in the strength and EMI SE of the DC-coated MXene film can facilitate the utilization of the MXene film in reliable, practical applications.

In this work, a novel hybrid SERS platform incorporating hybrid core-shell (HyCoS) AuPd nanoparticles (NPs) and MoS2 nanoplatelets has been successfully demonstrated for strong surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) enhancement of Rhodamine 6G (R6G). A significantly improved SERS signal of R6G is observed on the hybrid SERS platform by adapting both electromagnetic mechanism (EM) and chemical mechanism (CM) in a single platform. The EM enhancement originates from the unique plasmonic HyCoS AuPd NP template fabricated by the modified droplet epitaxy, which exhibits strong plasmon excitation of hotspots at the nanogaps of metallic NPs and abundant generation of electric fields by localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). Superior LSPR results from the coupling of distinctive AuPd core-shell NP and high-density background Au NPs. The CM enhancement is associated with the charge transfer from the MoS2 nanoplatelets to the R6G. The direct contact via mixing approach with optimal mixing ratio can effectively facilitate the charges transfer to the HOMO and LUMO of R6G, leading to the orders of Raman signal amplification. The enhancement factor (EF) for the proposed hybrid platform reaches ~1010 for R6G on the hybrid SERS platform.

Since the increase in the emission of various Volatiles Organic Compounds, gas and formaldehyde gas have had a harmful effect on the human body, and gas sensors that can measure those gases were fabricated in this study. After Pt coating was performed on the alumina substrate, Zn seed layers were fabricated. Nanostructures were formed through sonochemical synthesis by varying the ratio of ZnO and TiO2. Thereafter, the reactivity and recovery properties were compared and evaluated according to the concentrations of formaldehyde and toluene gas. The ZnO(99%)-TiO2(1%) gas sensor showed meaningful selectivity of about 40% or more at a concentration ranging from 5 to 20 ppm (high concentration) of formaldehyde and toluene gas, and showed a low selectivity of about 5% or more for a concentration ranging from 0.1 to 1 ppm (low concentration) of formaldehyde and toluene gas. This sensor can be optimized to have a meaningful selectivity of formaldehyde gas compared to other Volatiles Organic Compounds gases by optimizing the ZnO-TiO2 nanostructure.

Owing to the increasing construction of new buildings, the increase in the emission of formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds, which are emitted as indoor air pollutants, is causing adverse effects on the human body, including life-threatening diseases such as cancer. A gas sensor was fabricated and used to measure and monitor this phenomenon. An alumina substrate with Au, Pt, and Zn layers formed on the electrode was used for the gas sensor fabrication, which was then classified into two types, A and B, representing the graphene spin coating before and after the heat treatment, respectively. Ultrasonication was performed in a 0.01 M aqueous solution, and the variation in the sensing accuracy of the target gas with the operating temperature and conditions was investigated. As a result, compared to the ZnO sensor showing excellent sensing characteristics at 350 °C, it exhibited excellent sensing characteristics even at a low temperature of 150 °C, 200 °C, and 250 °C.

Highlights High performance Al nanostructures/ZnO quantum dots heterostructure photodetectors with a controllable geometry of the Al nanostructures are demonstrated. Light utilization of the photoactive layers is significantly boosted with the Al nanostructures. The light confinement effect is inherently determined by the geometries of the Al nanostructures. Abstract Light confinement induced by spontaneous near-surface resonance is inherently determined by the location and geometry of metallic nanostructures (NSs), offering a facile and effective approach to break through the limitation of the light-mater interaction within the photoactive layers. Here, we demonstrate high-performance Al NS/ZnO quantum dots (Al/ZnO) heterostructure UV photodetectors with controllable morphologies of the self-assembled Al NSs. The Al/ZnO heterostructures exhibit a superior light utilization than the ZnO/Al heterostructures, and a strong morphological dependence of the Al NSs on the optical properties of the heterostructures. The inter-diffusion of Al atoms into ZnO matrixes is of a great benefit for the carrier transportation. Consequently, the optimal photocurrent of the Al/ZnO heterostructure photodetectors is significantly increased by 275 times to ~ 1.065 mA compared to that of the pristine ZnO device, and an outstanding photoresponsivity of 11.98 A W−1 is correspondingly achieved under 6.9 mW cm−2 UV light illumination at 10 V bias. In addition, a relatively fast response is similarly witnessed with the Al/ZnO devices, paving a path to fabricate the high-performance UV photodetectors for applications.

Abstract Very small metallic nanostructures, i.e., plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs), can demonstrate the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, a characteristic of the strong light absorption, scattering and localized electromagnetic field via the collective oscillation of surface electrons upon on the excitation by the incident photons. The LSPR of plasmonic NPs can significantly improve the photoresponse of the photodetectors. In this work, significantly enhanced photoresponse of UV photodetectors is demonstrated by the incorporation of various plasmonic NPs in the detector architecture. Various size and elemental composition of monometallic Ag and Au NPs, as well as bimetallic alloy AgAu NPs, are fabricated on GaN (0001) by the solid-state dewetting approach. The photoresponse of various NPs are tailored based on the geometric and elemental evolution of NPs, resulting in the highly enhanced photoresponsivity of 112 A W−1, detectivity of 2.4 × 1012 Jones and external quantum efficiency of 3.6 × 104% with the high Ag percentage of AgAu alloy NPs at a low bias of 0.1 V. The AgAu alloy NP detector also demonstrates a fast photoresponse with the relatively short rise and fall time of less than 160 and 630 ms, respectively. The improved photoresponse with the AgAu alloy NPs is correlated with the simultaneous effect of strong plasmon absorption and scattering, increased injection of hot electrons into the GaN conduction band and reduced barrier height at the alloy NPs/GaN interface.

Abstract Multi-metallic alloy nanoparticles (NPs) can offer a promising route for the integration of multi-functional elements by the adaptation of advantageous individual NP properties and thus can exhibit the multi-functional dynamic properties arisen from the electronic heterogeneity as well as configurational diversity. The integration of Pt-based metallic alloy NPs are imperative in the catalytic, sensing, and energy applications; however, it usually suffers from the difficulty in the fabrication of morphologically well-structured and elementally well-alloyed NPs, which yields poor plasmonic responses. In this work, the improved morphological and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties of fully alloyed bimetallic AgPt and monometallic Pt NPs are demonstrated on sapphire (0001) via the one-step solid-state dewetting (SSD) of the Ag/Pt bilayers. In a sharp contrast to the previous studies of pure Pt NPs, the surface morphology of the resulting AgPt and Pt NPs in this work are significantly improved such that they possess larger size, increased interparticle gaps, and improved uniformity. The intermixing of Ag and Pt atoms, AgPt alloy formation, and concurrent sublimation of Ag atoms plays the major roles in the fabrication of bimetallic AgPt and monometallic Pt NPs along with the enhanced global diffusion and energy minimization of NP system. The fabricated AgPt and Pt NPs show much-enhanced LSPR responses as compared to the pure Pt NPs in the previous studies, and the excitation of dipolar, quadrupolar, multipolar and higher-order resonance modes is realized depending upon the size, configuration, and elemental compositions. The LSPR peaks demonstrate drastic alteration along with the evolution of AgPt and Pt NPs, i.e., the resonance peaks are shifted and enhanced by the variation of size and Ag content.

Objectives: Many individuals around the world are suffering from psychological distress due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The aim of this study is to explore the validity and reliability of the English version of Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-6 (SAVE-6), which measures the anxiety response of the general population to the viral epidemic.Methods: A cross-sectional web-based study with self-reporting measures was conducted. A total of 314 United States residents were recruited via online platform in exchange for payment. The participants were asked to an anonymous questionnaire, collecting information on demographics, psychiatric history, SAVE-6, Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4), and the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale.Results: The result from confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) demonstrated that a single-factor model [χ(9)2 = 11.53, p = 0.24] yielded excellent fit for all of indices [χ2/df ratio = 1.28; CFI = 1.00; TLI = 1.00; SRMR = 0.02; RMSEA = 0.03 (0.00, 0.07; 90% CI)] and yielded strong internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.88). The results from multigroup CFAs showed that there were no gender differences [Δχ(6)2 = 3.20, p = 0.78, ns] and no race differences [Δχ(6)2=3.60, p = 0.73, ns] between the models, along with excellent model fits.Conclusions: The results of this study support the reliability and validity of SAVE-6 with strong psychometric properties for the English version of the U.S. population.

Objectives: In the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, schoolteachers experience stress from addressing students or performing school tasks that may result in burnout. This study aimed to observe whether teachers' stress and anxiety due to the pandemic can influence their depression or psychological well-being and examine whether their resilience or self-efficacy mediates this association.Methods: During March 4–15, 2021, 400 teachers participated and responded voluntarily to an online survey that included the Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-9 items (SAVE-9), the Teacher-Efficacy Scale, the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), the WHO-5 Well-Being Index, and the Patients Health Questionnaire-9 items.Results: High psychological well-being of teachers in COVID-19 pandemic era was expected by a low SAVE-9 score (aOR = 0.95; 95% CI, 0.91–0.99), a high level of self-efficacy (aOR = 1.03; 95% CI, 1.01–1.06), and a high BRS score (aOR = 1.18; 95% CI, 1.10–1.27). Moreover, teachers' resilience mediated the effects of stress and anxiety from the COVID-19 pandemic on their subjective well-being or depression.Conclusions: Schoolteachers' subjective well-being and depression were influenced by high levels of stress and anxiety of the viral epidemic, and their resilience mediated this relationship in this COVID-19 pandemic era.

A chemical investigation of a methanol extract of Spongia sp., a marine sponge collected from the Philippines, identified 12 unreported scalarane-type alkaloids—scalimides A–L (1–12)—together with two previously described scalarin derivatives. The elucidation of the structure of the scalaranes based on the interpretation of their NMR and HRMS data revealed that 1–12 featured a β-alanine-substituted E-ring but differed from each other through variations in their oxidation states and substitutions occurring at C16, C24, and C25. Evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of 1–12 against several Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria showed that 10 and 11 were active against Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis, respectively, with MIC values ranging from 4 to 16 μg/mL.

One of the most common approaches for enhancing network performance is to retrieve data from nearby data holders that have previously obtained the desired data, not only from the original data source itself. In this case, since a data receiver cannot identify a practical data sender, it is necessary to verify both the received data and the data sender. Moreover, a data sender generally fragments the data into several small segments and sends them. Therefore, if these segments are retrieved from multiple unknown senders, the receiver must verify every segment to safely use the data. MHT (Merkle hash tree) is suitable for efficiently verifying the set of segments shared in the network. NDN (named-data networking) and Bitcoin utilize MHT to verify transmitted data. However, a data authentication scheme based on the MHT has an inefficient factor that repeatedly computes the same node values of the MHT and are repeatedly computed. The larger the size of the MHT is, the greater the number of calculation iterations. Therefore, as a result, the authentication scheme’s inefficiency is also more severe. When a sender transmits data consisting of many segments through NDN, the data authentication time may take longer than the data transmission time. Hence, in this paper, the degree of the MHT’s inefficiency and the pattern of the iterated operation of the MHT are analyzed first. The proposed improvement is to find repeatedly used node values, store them internally, and use the stored node values without recalculation when required to reuse them. For that process, a rule to select such node values is given. Additionally, when verifying the leaf node value of the MHT, the MHT-based authentication scheme asks a verifier to compute all node values on the path from the leaf node to the root node of the MHT. This paper demonstrates the proposed shortest path selection for verifying the leaf node value. The proposed scheme, using saved node values and the shortest path, reduces the computational overhead of the MHT and improves service latency. It has been proven from performance evaluations that the proposed scheme decreases the computational overhead by more than one-third if the number of segments is more than 1024.

Fimasartan, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide are commonly used in combination therapies as antihypertensive drugs. This study aimed to develop and validate an analytical method for fimasartan, its active and major metabolite fimasartan-amide, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide in rat plasma using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The standard calibration curves for fimasartan (1–500 ng/mL), its active and major metabolite fimasartan-amide (0.3–100 ng/mL), amlodipine (0.5–200 ng/mL), and hydrochlorothiazide (5–5000 ng/mL) were linear with R2 > 0.9964, and the inter- and intra-day accuracy and precision and stability were within the acceptable criteria. Using this validated analytical method, the pharmacokinetic interaction of these triple combination drugs between single administration and concomitant administration of the triple combination was investigated; the results did not reveal a significant difference in any of the pharmacokinetic parameters. Based on these results, we investigated the effects of red ginseng extract (RGE) on the pharmacokinetics of fimasartan, fimasartan-amide, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide after oral administration of the combination in rats. No significant difference was observed in the pharmacokinetic parameters of fimasartan, fimasartan-amide, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide, except for the Tmax values of amlodipine. The delayed Tmax value of amlodipine was attributed to its decreased intestinal permeability after repeated RGE treatments. In conclusion, using a combination of antihypertensive drugs and simultaneous analytical methods, we established efficient drug interaction and toxicokinetic studies using a small number of animals.

Ultra-fine hydrogen produced by electrochemical water splitting without carbon emission is a high-density energy carrier, which could gradually substitute the usage of traditional fossil fuels. The development of high-performance electrocatalysts at affordable costs is one of the major research priorities in order to achieve the large-scale implementation of a green hydrogen supply chain. In this work, the development of a vanadium-doped FeBP (V-FeBP) microsphere croissant (MSC) electrocatalyst is demonstrated to exhibit efficient bi-functional water splitting for the first time. The FeBP MSC electrode is synthesized by a hydrothermal approach along with the systematic control of growth parameters such as precursor concentration, reaction duration, reaction temperature and post-annealing, etc. Then, the heteroatom doping of vanadium is performed on the best FeBP MSC by a simple soaking approach. The best optimized V-FeBP MSC demonstrates the low HER and OER overpotentials of 52 and 180 mV at 50 mA/cm2 in 1 M KOH in a three-electrode system. In addition, the two-electrode system, i.e., V-FeBP || V-FeBP, demonstrates a comparable water-splitting performance to the benchmark electrodes of Pt/C || RuO2 in 1 M KOH. Similarly, exceptional performance is also observed in natural sea water. The 3D MSC flower-like structure provides a very high surface area that favors rapid mass/electron-transport pathways, which improves the electrocatalytic activity. Further, the V-FeBP electrode is examined in different pH solutions and in terms of its stability under industrial operational conditions at 60 °C in 6 M KOH, and it shows excellent stability.

This study aimed to validate the schoolteachers' version of the Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-9 (SAVE-9) scale. This scale assessed the work-related stress and anxiety response of schoolteachers to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 400 schoolteachers participated in an online survey between March 4 and 15, 2021. The survey questionnaire included the schoolteachers' version of the SAVE-9, Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Generalized Anxiety Disorders-7 (GAD-7) scales. A scree test and parallel analysis suggested a single-factor structure model for the schoolteachers' version of the SAVE-9 scale (real-data eigenvalue = 68.89, 95th percentile of the random eigenvalues = 27.56). The SAVE-9 scale showed good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.853) and good convergent validity with GAD-7 (rho = 0.545, p < 0.001) and PHQ-9 (rho = 0.434, p < 0.001) scale scores. This, schoolteachers' version of the SAVE-9 scale is a reliable and valid rating scale that can be applied to teachers in a pandemic situation.

Alloy nanoparticles (NPs) can offer a wide range of opportunities for various applications due to their composition and structure dependent properties such as multifunctionality, electronic heterogeneity, site-specific response, and multiple plasmon resonance bands. In this work, the fabrication of self-assembled PdxAg1-x NPs alloy nanostructures with distinct size, density, shape, and composition is demonstrated via the solid-state dewetting of sputtered Pd/Ag thin films on c-plane sapphire. The initial stage of bilayer dewetting exhibits the nucleation of voids, followed by the expansion of voids and cluster breakdown and finally shape transformation along with the temperature control. Bilayer composition shows a substantial influence on the dewetting such that the overall dewetting is enhanced along with the increased Ag composition, i.e. Pd0.25Ag0.75 > Pd0.5Ag0.5 > Pd0.75Ag0.25. On the other hand, the size and density of NPs can be efficiently controlled by varying the initial thickness of bilayers. Reflectance peaks in UV and near-infrared (NIR) regions and a wide absorption band in the visible region arisen from the surface plasmon resonance are observed in reflectance spectra. The peak intensity depends on the composition of PdxAg1-x NPs and the NIR peaks gradually blue-shift with the size decrement.

This study investigated the usefulness of the six-item Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics (SAVE-6) scale and the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) as tools to assess anxiety related to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in cancer patients. A total of 221 patients with cancer responded to an anonymous online questionnaire between 15 July and 15 August 2020. The functional impairment of the patients was assessed using the Work and Social Adjustment Scale (WSAS), and the SAVE-6 and CAS were also applied. Among these 221 cancer patients, 110 (49.8%) had SAVE-6 scores ≥ 15 and 21 (9.5%) had CAS scores ≥ 5. Within the study population, 104 (47.1%) and 29 (13.1%) patients had WSAS scores ≥ 11 (moderate to severe functional impairment) and ≥ 21 (severe functional impairment), respectively. The correlations between the SAVE-6 and WSAS (p < 0.001) and CAS (p < 0.001) scores were statistically significant. The cut-off for the SAVE-6 was 15 points, while that for the WSAS was 11. Our results suggested that the SAVE-6 and CAS could be used to evaluate moderate and severe degrees of functional impairment related to mental health, respectively, in cancer patients during viral epidemics.

We performed field measurements of the behavioral changes in cultured chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) caused by tide-induced changes in the shapes of their small-sized tetragonal fish cages. The field measurements were conducted in two separate periods: neap tide, a period in which the shape of the fish cages was stable; and spring tide, a period in which the fish cages are significantly deformed, which was expected to have significant influences on fish behavior. In the spring tide, the cages were deformed greatly by the moving water, with different water velocities affecting the cages to different degrees; the volume loss was estimated at 4.9% and 7.3% for v = 0.114 m/s and v = 0.221 m/s, respectively. The fish exhibited significantly different behaviors between the neap tide and spring tide. During the neap tide, the fish remained in the lower part of the cage, but during the spring tide they made frequent upward and downward movements, and their horizontal distribution changed significantly due to the changes in the shape of the cage. The cage deformation during the spring tide greatly influenced the swimming behavior of fish.

Abstract In this work, the evolution of PdAg and PdAuAg alloy nanostructures is demonstrated on sapphire (0001) via the solid-state dewetting of multi-metallic thin films. Various surface configurations, size, and arrangements of bi- and tri-metallic alloy nanostructures are fabricated as a function of annealing temperature, annealing duration, film thickness, and deposition arrangements such as bi-layers (Pd/Ag), tri-layers (Pd/Au/Ag), and multi-layers (Pd/Au/Ag × 5). Specifically, the tri-layers film shows the gradual evolution of over-grown NPs, voids, wiggly nanostructures, and isolated PdAuAg alloy nanoparticles (NPs) along with the increased annealing temperature. In contrast, the multi-layers film with same thickness show the enhanced dewetting rate, which results in the formation of voids at relatively lower temperature, wider spacing, and structural regularity of alloy NPs at higher temperature. The dewetting enhancement is attributed to the increased number of interfaces and reduced individual layer thickness, which aid the inter-diffusion process at the initial stage. In addition, the time evolution of the Pd150 nm/Ag80 nm bi-layer films at constant temperature show the wiggly-connected and isolated PdAg alloy NPs. The overall evolution of alloy NPs is discussed based on the solid-state dewetting mechanism in conjunction with the diffusion, inter-diffusion, alloying, sublimation, Rayleigh instability, and surface energy minimization. Depending upon their surface morphologies, the bi- and tri-metallic alloy nanostructures exhibit the dynamic reflectance spectra, which show the formation of dipolar (above 700 nm) and quadrupolar resonance peaks (~ 380 nm) and wide dips in the visible region as correlated to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect. An absorption dip is readily shifted from ~ 510 to ~ 475 nm along with the decreased average size of alloy nanostructures.

The chemical investigation of the marine sponge Dysidea sp., which was collected from Bohol province in the Philippines, resulted in the identification of 15 new scalarane-type sesterterpenoids (1–14, 16), together with 15 known compounds. The chemical structures of the new compounds were elucidated based on NMR spectroscopy and HRMS. The structure of 12-epi-phyllactone D/E (15) isolated during this study was originally identified in 2007. However, careful inspection of our experimental 13C NMR spectrum revealed considerable discrepancies with the reported data at C-9, C-12, C-14, and C-23, leading to the correction of the reported compound to the C-12 epimer of 15, phyllactone D/E. The biological properties of compounds 1–16 were evaluated using the MDA-MB-231 cancer cell line. Compound 7, which bears a pentenone E-ring, exhibits significant cytotoxicity with a GI50 value of 4.21 μM.

Abstract Si-based optoelectronic devices embedded with metallic nanoparticles (NPs) have demonstrated the NP shape, size, spacing, and crystallinity dependent on light absorption and emission induced by the localized surface plasmon resonance. In this work, we demonstrate various sizes and configurations of palladium (Pd) nanostructures on Si (111) by the systematic thermal annealing with the variation of Pd thickness and annealing temperature. The evolution of Pd nanostructures are systematically controlled by the dewetting of thin film by means of the surface diffusion in conjunction with the surface and interface energy minimization and Volmer-Weber growth model. Depending on the control of deposition amount ranging between 0.5 and 100 nm at various annealing temperatures, four distinctive regimes of Pd nanostructures are demonstrated: (i) small pits and grain formation, (ii) nucleation and growth of NPs, (iii) lateral evolution of NPs, and (iv) merged nanostructures. In addition, by the control of annealing between 300 and 800 °C, the Pd nanostructures show the evolution of small pits and grains, isolated NPs, and finally, Pd NP-assisted nanohole formation along with the Si decomposition and Pd-Si inter-diffusion. The Raman analysis showed the discrepancies on phonon modes of Si (111) such that the decreased peak intensity with left shift after the fabrication of Pd nanostructures. Furthermore, the UV-VIS-NIR reflectance spectra revealed the existence of surface morphology dependent on absorption, scattering, and reflectance properties.

Multi-metallic alloy nanoparticles (MNPs) can offer valuable opportunities to meet the various demands of applications. MNPs consist of various noble metallic elements can combine diverse electronic, optical and catalytic properties in a single NP configuration, thus taking the advantage of each element. In this paper, the fabrication of tri- and quad- metallic alloy NPs with noble elements (Ag, Au, Pd and Pt) and the corresponding localized surface plasmon resonance (LPSR) properties are systematically demonstrated. Tri- and quad-metallic alloy NPs come in various size and configurations by the solid-state dewetting of Ag/Au/Pd/Pt quad-layers on sapphire (0001). Tri-metallic AuPdPt NPs are demonstrated by the systematic control of growth temperature along with the significant Ag atom sublimation. Strongly enhanced and tunable LPSR is exerted in the UV-VIS regions depending upon the size, configuration, spacing and elemental composition of the MNPs. The size dependent LSPR response of MNPs is discussed based on the absorption and scattering along with the excitation of dipolar, quadrupolar, high order and multipolar resonance modes. The MNPs exhibit much stronger and dynamic LSPR bands as compared with the monometallic Pt and Pd NPs with the comparable size and configurations.

With the development of the internet of things (IoT), the power grid has become intelligent using massive IoT sensors, such as smart meters. Generally, installed smart meters can collect large amounts of data to improve grid visibility and situational awareness. However, the limited storage and communication capacities can restrain their infrastructure in the IoT environment. To alleviate these problems, efficient and various compression techniques are required. Deep learning-based compression techniques such as auto-encoders (AEs) have recently been deployed for this purpose. However, the compression performance of the existing models can be limited when the spectral properties of high-frequency sampled power data are widely varying over time. This paper proposes an AE compression model, based on a frequency selection method, which improves the reconstruction quality while maintaining the compression ratio (CR). For efficient data compression, the proposed method selectively applies customized compression models, depending on the spectral properties of the corresponding time windows. The framework of the proposed method involves two primary steps: (i) division of the power data into a series of time windows with specified spectral properties (high-frequency, medium-frequency, and low-frequency dominance) and (ii) separate training and selective application of the AE models, which prepares them for the power data compression that best suits the characteristics of each frequency. In simulations on the Dutch residential energy dataset, the frequency-selective AE model shows significantly higher reconstruction performance than the existing model with the same CR. In addition, the proposed model reduces the computational complexity involved in the analysis of the learning process.

A total of eight new oxygenated 4-exo-methylene sterols, 1–8, together with one artifact 9 and six known sterols 11–16, were isolated from the marine sponge Theonella swinhoei collected from the Bohol province in Philippines. Structures of sterols 1–8 were determined from 1D and 2D NMR data. Among the sterols, 8α-hydroxytheonellasterol (4) spontaneously underwent an allylic 1,3-hydroxyl shift to produce 15α-hydroxytheonellasterol (9) as an artifact; this was rationalized by quantum mechanical calculations of the transition state. In addition, the 1,2-epoxy alcohol subunit of 8α-hydroxy-14,15-β-epoxytheonellasterol (5) was assigned using the Gauge-Independent Atomic Orbital (GIAO) NMR chemical shift calculations and subsequent DP4+ analysis. Finally, comparison of the 13C chemical shifts of isolated 7α-hydroxytheonellasterol (6) with the reported values revealed significant discrepancies at C-6, C-7, C-8, and C-14, leading to reassignment of the C-7 stereochemistry in the known structure.

A super-porous hybrid platform can offer significantly increased number of reaction sites for the analytes and thus can offer advantages in the biosensor applications. In this work, a significantly improved sensitivity and selectivity of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection is demonstrated by a super-porous hybrid CuO/Pt nanoparticle (NP) platform on Si substrate as the first demonstration. The super-porous hybrid platform is fabricated by a physiochemical approach combining the physical vapor deposition of Pt NPs and electrochemical deposition of super-porous CuO structures by adopting a dynamic hydrogen bubble technique. Under an optimized condition, the hybrid CuO/Pt biosensor demonstrates a very high sensitivity of 2205 µA/mM·cm2 and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 140 nM with a wide detection range of H2O2. This is meaningfully improved performance as compared to the previously reported CuO-based H2O2 sensors as well as to the other metal oxide-based H2O2 sensors. The hybrid CuO/Pt platform exhibits an excellent selectivity against other interfering molecules such as glucose, fructose, dopamine, sodium chloride and ascorbic acid. Due to the synergetic effect of highly porous CuO structures and underlying Pt NPs, the CuO/Pt architecture offers extremely abundant active sites for the H2O2 reduction and electron transfer pathways.
