Highways are public roads, whose function is to integrate Croatia in the European transport system, link the regions of Croatia and facilitate transit traffic, They are public property for general use, owned by the Republic of Croatia, and they cannot be the subject of acquisition or other proprietary rights of any kind. Today, there are two types of highway record-keeping. The first is conducted by leading companies authorised to manage highways in order to develop a highway database, or create a highway register. The second is conducted by land-management systems; the Cadastre and Land Registry. They are the official public registers for keeping records of land plots, buildings and other structures, and their ownership. Procedures that need to be implemented in the second type of record-keeping often get "stuck" in practice, Based on the problems identified in this model and an analysis of the state of record-keeping, a proposal for a new model for highway records in the Cadastre and Land Registry is given. The article discusses the highlights of the Solemn Session of the Faculty Board on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of independent activities of the Faculty of Geodesy of the University of Zagreb in Croatia on September 20, 2007. The event was attended by current and former employees of the Faculty, as well as Croatian president Stjepan Mesić. Professor Zdravko Kapović, the dean of the Faculty, gave a brief presentation of the activities of the Faculty of Geodesy during the past period.

Efficient management of space resources is one of the main factors of prosperous economic development of an area. Technological development enables an integration of attributes linked to space, creating a spatial informational support for increasingly more complex social communities. An important component of these systems is mass real estate valuation, especially in urban areas. The paper explains data modelling and storage of a 3D test area space model into a spatial database and describes a procedure of visibility calculation as a real estate valuation factor for a part of the City of Zagreb. In the paper, visibility is presented as a visibility polygon, a two-dimensional geometric shape drawn by intersecting a continuous visibility border in all directions from the object weight centre, considering the intersection of horizontal vision and obstacles. A matching visibility polygon is attached to each building in the whole test area, under the assumption that the polygon area can be correlated to a positive or negative influence on real estate value. Modem methods of measurement developed on the basis of advanced reflectorless distance measurement have paved the way for easier detection and analysis of shift and deformation. A large quantity of collected data points will often require a mathematical model of the surface that fits best into these. Although this can be a complex task, in the case of planar surfaces it is easily done, enabling further processing and analysis of measurement results. The paper describes the fitting of a plane to a set of collected points using the least squares distance, with previously excluded outliers via the RANSAC algorithm.
