Introduction. The number of women suffering from urinary incontinence is increasing every year. The most common type of this condition is stress urinary incontinence. Involuntary leakage of urine occurs when sneezing, coughing, laughing, and standing up, as well as during physical activity. The problem of urinary incontinence is very embarrassing for athletes and affects their sports performance. The aim of the study was to assess the occurrence of urinary incontinence symptoms in women regularly training in selected sports. Methods. 64 women athletes were selected for the study. This pilot study involved women training in athletics (short-distance running, long-distance running, hurdles and jumping (high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault), basketball, volleyball, or strength sports). Women were selected based on sample size calculation from those training in specified clubs. Women who had given birth were excluded from the study. The subjects completed a proprietary questionnaire consisting of 8 questions. They also completed the Urinary Distress Inventory, Short Form (UDI -6SF) questionnaire and the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire, Short Form (IIQ-7). Results. In this study, 43% of women who trained had symptoms of urinary incontinence. Regression analysis results with UDI -6SF and IIQ-7 total scores as dependent variables and age as an independent variable showed that the slopes of regression were not statistically significantly different (p-value > 0.05). The results of the analysis of the correlation between SUI (stress urinary incontinence) and age (p = 0.0247) and practiced sport (p = 0.0476) turned out to be statistically significant. Conclusions. The type of sport practiced affects the occurrence of UI (urinary incontinence) symptoms in women. In this study, female athletes practicing strength sports had the greatest predisposition to the occurrence of UI symptoms. The occurrence of UI symptoms has little impact on the deterioration of the quality of life among women practicing selected sports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

QUALITY of life , *YOUNG women , *YOGA , *OBESITY , *WAIST-hip ratio , *YOGA postures , *YOGA techniques - Abstract
Background: Overweight and obesity are global civilization problems affecting all age groups, including in poland. According to the Central Statistical Office, the prevalence of excessive body weight among young women in 2022 was 20%. Being overweight leads to numerous complications and increases the risk of chronic diseases. There is also a confirmed link between obesity and low self-acceptance, leading to a decrease in quality of life, especially among women. health-promoting lifestyle modifications, including physical activity and diet, play a crucial role in obesity prevention and treatment. regular physical activity, such as yoga, is also associated with improved quality of life, particularly in the psychological domain. Aim of the study: The study aimed to assess changes in anthropometric indicators of body weight, including body mass index (BmI), weight change (wC), waist-to-hip ratio (whr), and quality of life (36-item short form survey [Sf-36]) after eight weeks of yoga training conducted three times a week, with each session lasting for 45 minutes. Material and methods: The study included 27 women with an average age of 31.48 years ±10.98, who were not undergoing any medical therapy or engaging in other physical training and were not pregnant. The participants did not make any changes to their diet during the study. The results were subjected to statistical analysis, with the normality of variable distribution assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the difference between variables analyzed using either the Student's t-test or the wilcoxon test. The relationships between variables were examined by Spearman's rank correlation. Results: The analysis showed that yoga training led to a statistically significant increase in quality of life across all domains. however, there were no substantial changes observed in BmI, wC, or whr before and after the training, which may be attributed to the small sample size and requires further research. Conclusion: Based on the preliminary results, it can be inferred that an eight-week yoga training program may be recommended as a method to improve the quality of life in women. MASSAGE therapy ,BENIGN prostatic hyperplasia ,RETENTION of urine ,ENDORECTAL ultrasonography ,PROSTATITIS ,PROSTATE-specific antigen ,URINARY organ diseases - Abstract
Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common urological diseases affecting men of all ages, and the incidence increases with age. Due to the location of the prostate in the lower urinary tract area, changes within it can impair urinary function. Therefore, early intervention, accurate diagnostics, and appropriate treatment are crucial, especially conservative methods in the first stage. Aim of the study: The study aimed to use and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic massage in BPH. Case report: A 55-year-old patient diagnosed with BPH received a course of therapeutic massage lasting three weeks, with the procedure performed twice a week. Each massage lasted twenty minutes and involved manipulation of the stomach lining. The patient underwent imaging tests before and after the therapy. On the International Prostate Symptom Score scale, the patient scored three points before the therapy and two points after it, which indicates mild symptoms. Prostate-specific antigen level was 1.421 ng/ml, and the patient had normal uroflowmetry results [Qmax=19 ml/s and Qmedium=12 ml/s] before and after treatment. Urine retention after micturition was 0 ml at both intervals. A transrectal ultrasound examination revealed a reduced prostate volume of around 30% after the therapeutic intervention. Conclusions: In the current case, the positive effect of reduced prostate volume obtained after therapeutic intervention shows that massage can serve as a complementary method to reduce BPH symptoms. In the future, it is advisable to continue testing on more patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The benefits of creatine supplementation, such as weight, strength and muscle mass gain, are widely known, which translates directly into improved sports performance. However, is it really possible to consider such supplementation as a model solution for absolutely every athlete practicing volleyball? This brief review was intended to summarize the indications and effects of supplementation of volleyball players with creatine, taking into account the theoretical side of potential benefits, i.e. creatine metabolism in the creatine kinase (CK)-phosphocreatine (PCr) system and energetic advantages for muscle cells coming from the "renewing" of the basic useful energy carrier that is ATP (transferring the phosphate group to ADP) by creatine phosphate, as well as visual effects of training achieved in practice by volleyball players after supplementation with creatine, taken mostly in the form of monohydrate. This work also reviews possible potential side effects that are usually the result of exceeding the recommended dose of a supplement or taking preparations that are not subject to appropriate analytical tests, i.e. those who do not have appropriate certificates or attests. Background: Stress incontinence affects 25-60% of women of all ages and causes constant discomfort, significantly lowering quality of life. The most common causes of urinary incontinence are weakened sphincter muscles or bladder failure. Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of therapeutic massage therapy for stress urinary incontinence and to determine whether therapeutic massage can restore the normal function of the bladder sphincters. Material and methods: The study involved eleven women with a diagnosis of primary stress urinary incontinence, aged 50-79 years. The women attended therapeutic massage sessions twice a week for four weeks. A sanitary pad test was performed before starting and immediately after ending the therapy to verify its effectiveness. Results: In eight women, the amount of urine that leaked decreased after therapy. This result was statistically significant (p = 0.02). In three cases, urine leakage was reduced to zero. Conclusions: Therapeutic massage, acting locally, improves the function of the bladder sphincters, their flexibility and the ability to contract and relax. Massage eliminates or significantly reduces the symptoms of stress urinary incontinence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

URINARY incontinence in women , *POSTMENOPAUSE , *MEDICAL statistics - Abstract
Urinary incontinence (UI) is an important social problem that affects more than 50% of postmenopausal women. The number of patients increases from year to year. According to recent data, UI affects women twice as often as men. This condition occurs in about 20-30% of young women, 30-40% in middle age and up to 50% of women in old age. There are five types of urinary incontinence. The etiology of the problem of incontinence is not fully understood, because the problem can affect men and women of all ages and can be due to many changes in the human body. International Continence Society Guidelines indicate that treatment of urinary incontinence should begin with conservative treatment. Surgical treatment should be used when conservative treatment will not bring positive results. According to guidelines, conservative treatment should include pharmacotherapy, physiotherapy, and behavioral therapy. Numerous scientific reports indicate efficacy of physiotherapy in the treatment of urinary incontinence. Most recent reports indicate that physiotherapy gives a positive result in up to 80% of patients with stage I or stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and mixed form, and in 50% of patients with stage II SUI. Urinary incontinence is an interdisciplinary problem because in addition to the sphere directly related to medicine, it also concerns the economic and social spheres. The latest data show that incontinence in postmenopausal women occurs more often than other civilization diseases such as diabetes, hypertension or depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urinary incontinence is a common problem that affects postmenopausal women. This ailment has a negative impact on many aspects of life, significantly limiting everyday functioning related to professional work, physical activity or the intimate sphere. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of the sonofeedback method in reducing the severity of urinary incontinence in postmenopausal women with a urinary incontinence problem. A total of 60 patients aged 45–65 with stress urinary incontinence, confirmed by a gynecologist, were qualified for the study. All persons qualified for the study were randomly assigned to study group A (n = 20), comparative B (n = 20) and control C (n = 20). Patients from group A were treated with sonofeedback of the pelvic floor muscles. In group B, the combined electrostimulation method was used with biofeedback training. Group C was a control group in which only the measured parameters were measured at the same time interval as those carried out in groups A and B. In all patients, three times: before the therapy, after the fifth procedure and after the end of the therapy, the incidence and severity of stress urinary incontinence were assessed—Gaudenz questionnaire and the intensity of urinary incontinence—a modified 1 h pad test. The obtained results have an application value giving the possibility of using effective therapy with sonofeedback in women in whom the recommended electrostimulation method cannot be used due to health and behavioral reasons. Urinary incontinence is a major health problem. According to various authors, it concerns 30–40% of the population and grows with age, affecting approximately 50% of women aged over 70. According to the recommendations of the International Continence Society, the treatment of urinary incontinence should commence with conservative treatment and, above all, with physiotherapy. If the conservative treatment fails or the level of urinary incontinence is too high, surgery is recommended. With regard to female patients examined at work, the TOT method was applied. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between regular physical activity and the quality of life of women aged 65–87 who underwent surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) using the TOT method. The study group involved 60 postmenopausal women, patients of the Department of Gynaecology of the Hospital of Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Wroclaw, with SUI diagnosed during ultrasonography. The female patients were surveyed before and 12 months after the surgery using standardised IPAQ and WHOQOL-BREF.FL questionnaires. Significant positive relationships between quality of life and physical activity before and 12 months after the surgery were demonstrated in the somatic and social domains. Physically active postmenopausal women presented higher values in all domains and total quality of life according to the WHOQOL-BREF compared with physically inactive women, both before and 12 months after the procedure using the TOT method. Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a significant social problem. The latest figures show that it affects as many as 17–60% of the female population, and it is one of the most common chronic diseases. Incontinence substantially decreases the quality of patients' lives. The transobturator tape (TOT) procedure is the gold standard in surgical treatment due to its high efficacy and low complication rate. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life (QoL) of patients with stress incontinence before and after the TOT procedure. Method: The study included 57 patients diagnosed with stress incontinence on the basis of ultrasonography and history. The QoL before and after surgery was measured using the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ-7) and the Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QOL) standardised questionnaires. Results: The IIQ-7 scores for each question were higher (indicating poorer quality of life) before surgery than after surgery. The results for almost all domains were statistically significant. The I-QOL results also showed that, in most cases, the quality of patients' lives improved after the surgery. Statistically significant changes were observed in all three questionnaire domains of avoidance/limiting behaviour, psychosocial impact, and social embarrassment. Conclusion: Surgical treatment of stress incontinence with TOT results in resolution of bothersome symptoms in the majority of patients, leading to improved comfort in life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
