The accurate identification of precipitation type at ground level is one of the greatest difficulties for forecasters during winter. Special types of precipitation can be a threat to public safety and human health and can disrupt transportation and commerce, causing seriously loss of the economy. Winter precipitation may also cause serious disasters to aircraft navigation. In those situations, the consequences can be catastrophic, with heavy and prolonged freezing precipitation, collapsed power lines causing prolonged power outages, transportation networks of many types completely paralyzed, and even major long-term damage to infrastructure and vegetation in the most severe cases. Therefore, the accuracy of precipitation type is crucial for winter precipitation forecast. Accurate predictions from weather forecast models of timing (onset and duration), intensity, spatial extent, and phase (i.e., precipitation type) are crucial for decision-making and can help minimize the potential impacts. The research progress of precipitation type forecast in recent decades is investigated. The methods and techniques for predicting precipitation phases are reviewed systematically, which can be roughly divided into three categories. The index criterion methods are based on observations, numerical weather prediction weather predictions on thickness, area of warm atmosphere, significance level temperature, regression equation for vertical temperature profile, and model diagnosis. Some of those methods are highly dependent on the accuracy of the numerical model. The second type of methods are based on the microphysical processing scheme of numerical weather prediction model and ensemble prediction system. It includes microphysical scheme method and ensemble prediction method. The last type is the artificial intelligence prediction method including decision tree, artificial neural network, and deep learning etc. In recent years, sophisticated microphysical parameterizations schemes are widely used in high resolution regional forecast models, which help with precipitation-type prediction. The forecast accuracy of precipitation type model has been improved, which has become an important product support in precipitation type forecast. For instance, the precipitation type prediction product of ECMWF and the probabilistic prediction of precipitation type by ECMWF ensemble prediction. The probabilistic prediction has further improved the prediction skills compared with the deterministic model. However, even with such complex algorithms of NWP, correctly predicting what phase of precipitation ends up at the ground remains a challenging task. Besides this, many researches on the formation mechanism of microphysical processes are difficult to be applied to the precipitation type prediction, so it still needs continuous efforts to apply these achievements to improve the precipitation type prediction skill of numerical prediction model and increase the accuracy of precipitation type prediction by artificial intelligence and other technologies.

Background: Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) play a crucial role in the early diagnosis and prognosis of lung cancer. Identification of a more suitable sample source could be a breakthrough towards enhancing CTC detectability in early‐stage lung cancer. We investigated the differences in detectable CTCs between peripheral arterial and venous blood in early‐ and mid‐stage lung cancer patients undergoing surgery and analyzed the association between clinicopathological factors and detectable CTCs in peripheral arterial and venous blood. Methods: Peripheral arterial and venous blood was collected in 5‐mL samples from 56 patients with surgically resected and pathologically clear at early‐ or mid‐stage lung cancer. Blood specimens were enriched for CTCs based on isolation by size of epithelial tumor cells. The CTCs were identified using Swiss Giemsa staining and immunohistochemistry for CD45/CD31. Results: In stage I lung cancer, CTC‐positive rate was significantly higher in peripheral arterial than in venous blood (45.45% vs. 17.39%). There was no significant difference in the number of detectable CTCs between peripheral arterial and venous blood. A low degree of differentiation was associated with a high positive rate of CTCs in peripheral venous blood. The number of circulating tumor microemboli was significantly higher in patients with tumor size >3 cm compared with ≤3 cm. Conclusion: CTC levels in peripheral arterial and venous blood differed little in lung cancer patients.Compared to peripheral venous blood, peripheral arterial blood had a higher CTC positivity rate in early‐stage lung cancer.This study was favorable for early detection and monitoring of lung cancer. Stormwater resources are not effectively utilized in many Chinese cities, which not only wastes water resources but has also brought about serious urban flooding problems. Urban green space, as a resilient approach of stormwater regulation and storage, has been widely applied in urban flooding control and sponge city construction. Through a review on relevant literature in the past two decades, this paper systematically compares the methods commonly used in the assessment on stormwater regulation and storage capacity of urban green space, examines the pattern factors affecting the capacity, and expounds the application of urban green space in stormwater management at different scales. The literature review aims to provide a scientific basis for the alleviation of urban flooding problems and the construction of sponge cities. Purpose. Quantitative scintigraphy to evaluate salivary gland function changes in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) after iodine-131 (131I) treatment. Methods. A total of 458 patients with DTC grouped by sex and age were included. Salivary gland scintigraphy was performed to evaluate salivary gland function before and after 131I treatment. The uptake fraction (UF), uptake index (UI), and excretion fraction (EF) of two pairs of parotid glands and submandibular glands were measured and compared. The Chi-square test was conducted according to function impairment count. Results. Salivary gland function in different age groups and sexes were quite different, especially for women <55 years old, who had decreased UF, UI, and EF of all four glands without basal injury. The secretion or uptake function of some salivary glands with basic function impairment before 131I treatment was increased after iodine treatment. Only a small percentage of males showed reduced functional parameters after several treatments. The most significant difference in the count of impairment for the four salivary glands were the first and third examinations, which was more evident in women. The submandibular gland had the most significant reduction in uptake. Conclusion. Changes in salivary gland function are more common in young females being treated for DTC. Impairment of salivary gland function is correlated with the number of treatments and the cumulative dose of 131I. Pancreatic fibrosis is a pathological characteristic of chronic pancreatitis (CP) and pancreatic cancer. Chaihu Guizhi Ganjiang Decoction (CGGD) is a traditional Chinese medicine, which is widely used in the clinical treatment of digestive diseases. However, the potential anti-fibrosis mechanism of CGGD in treating CP remains unclear. Here, we conducted a series of experiments to examine the effect of CGGD on the CP rat model and primary isolated pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs). The results revealed that CGGD attenuated pancreatic damage, decreased collagen deposition, and inhibited PSC activation in the pancreas of CP rats. However, compared with the CP group, CGGD had no effect on body weight and serum amylase and lipase. In addition, CGGD suppressed autophagy by downregulating Atg5, Beclin-1, and LC3B and facilitated phosphorylation of mTOR and JNK in pancreatic tissues and PSCs. Moreover, the CGGD-containing serum also decreased LC3B or collagen I expression after rapamycin (mTOR inhibitor) or SP600125 (JNK inhibitor) treatment in PSCs. In conclusion, CGGD attenuated pancreatic fibrosis and PSC activation, possibly by suppressing autophagy of PSCs through the JNK/mTOR signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, local floods have become severely threatening to urban safety in China. As the capital city, Beijing has experienced serious local floods every year. In this paper spatial characteristics of local floods in the Beijing urban area were studied. Local flood locations changed and appeared as a spatial expansion trend from 1981 to 2011. Since all of the local floods were located in built-up areas, we further studied the relation between local floods and built-up areas using the spatial statistics of Geographic Information Systems. The results show that they had the same directional development trend which indicated local floods would get worse with the expansion of built-up areas. It also found that most local floods were located where there were high densities of drainage pipes, so we could infer that pipe systems should not be the only way to solve local floods due to their failures and negative effects. Among other issues, the degrading environmental and ecological situations, the low performance scrambled city form and the loss of cultural identity in Beijing City have proved that the conventional ‘population projection-urban infrastructure-land use’ approach and the architectural urbanism approach to urban growth planning failed to meet the challenges of swift urbanisation and sustainability issues in China in general, and Beijing in particular. The ‘negative approach’ is proposed that defines an urban growth and urban form through the identification and planning of Ecological Infrastructure (EI). This approach has evolved from the pre-scientific model of Feng-shui as the sacred landscape setting for human settlement, the nineteenth century notion of greenways as urban recreational infrastructure, the early twentieth century idea of green belts as urban form makers, and the late twentieth century notion of ecological networks and EI as a biological preservation framework. EI is composed of critical landscape elements and structure that are strategically identified and planned to safeguard natural assets and ecosystems services, essential for sustaining human society. EI is strategically planned and developed using less land but more efficiently preserving the ecosystems services. With growing levels of human-activity and frequent natural disturbances throughout the world, it is increasingly important that both research and management efforts take into account the widespread landscape fragmentation and its consequences for biodiversity conservation. The magnitude 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake in China caused dramatic impacts on giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) habitat in the nature reserves within Minshan and Qionglai mountains. With the combined stresses of the natural disaster and the extensive human activities during postquake reconstruction, giant panda habitat in this region may become more fragmented in the future. In order to preserve the giant panda population after the earthquake and protect the species against habitat fragmentation, this article explores a method of identifying giant panda migration corridors involving habitat suitability assessments and a least-cost path model. Focusing on postquake Wolong Nature Reserve, our results demonstrate that it contains 430.3km2 of suitable habitat (21.1% of total area), 463.8km2 of marginally suitable habitat (22.8%) and 1141.9km2 of unsuitable habitat (50.1%). We further show that several giant panda dispersal corridors exist in the reserve, including four corridor groups that cross the provincial highway and five corridors that do not intersect areas of human activity. This study will contribute to management and conservation efforts in Wolong Nature Reserve and beyond after the Wenchuan earthquake. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The practice of enhancing existing rivers and creating entirely new waterscapes has exploded in China over the past two decades. In our study of 104 randomly selected cities across China, we identified 14 types of river projects based on grey literature reports and their appearance on sequential aerial imagery, falling into three categories: 'engineering', 'waterfront spaces' and 'ecological' projects. 'Waterfront spaces' is the most common (60.5%), followed by 'engineering' (28.7%) and 'ecological' (10.8%). Using multiple stepwise regression, we found that the types of projects undertaken were strongly influenced by factors such as climate, social-economic setting, and 'Landscape Garden City' designation. Designation as a 'Landscape Garden City' was correlated with 'waterfront spaces', but not 'engineering' and 'ecological' projects. We found that cities in drier climates (as measured by 'precipitation minus evaporation') constructed more projects and they included many projects that impounded seasonal rivers to create year-round water bodies. Based on our results, we conclude that Chinese cities are still in the process of 'decorating' rivers, and that the 'Landscape Garden City' designation promoted such 'decorating' projects, especially 'linear greening' projects and 'public spaces along rivers'. Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) exhibits a direct antitumor effect in various tumor models. However, the mechanism of DHA inducing ferroptosis and activating antitumor immunity remains obscure. Therefore, our study was dedicated to investigate the effect of DHA on ferroptosis and tumor microenvironment and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism. PDAC orthotopic tumor model was used to investigate tumor proliferation and the population of immune cell in vivo, including M2-type macrophages (M2), myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), CD4+T cells, CD8+T cells, NK cells and NKT cells. Levels of GPX4, SLC7A11, P53 and ALOX12 were determined by Real-time PCR and Western blot. CCK8 assay was performed to detect cell viability, and the ferroptosis was distinguished by flow cytometry. Our results showed that DHA inhibited pancreatic cancer cell proliferation. In addition, DHA induced cell ferroptosis by up-regulating the expression of P53 and ALOX12, which was blocked by baicalein (a selective ALOX12 inhibitor). However, DHA also up-regulated the expression of GPX4 and SLC7A11. On the other hand, DHA significantly decreased the suppressive expansion of M2 and MDSCs. Moreover, DHA increased the immune cell population of CD8+T cells, NK cells and NKT cells in the tumor tissues of the tumor-bearing mice. Whereas, the DHA treatment did not affect the frequencies of M2, MDSCs, CD4+T, CD8+T, NK and NKT cells in the spleen. Our research provided experimental evidences on the activity and mechanism of ferroptosis induced by DHA and revealed that DHA regulated tumor local immunosuppressive microenvironment. The mortality of sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction (SICD) is very high due to the complex pathophysiological mechanism. Syringaresinol (SYR) is a natural abstract which possesses anti-inflammatory property. The present study aims was to identify the protective impact of SYR on sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction and investigate the specific mechanisms. We found that SYR improved the cardiac function and alleviated myocardial injury in mice that subjected to cecal ligation and puncture, in addition, SIRT1 expression was significantly elevated after SYR treatment compared to sepsis group both in vivo and in vitro , along with suppression of NLRP3 activation and proinflammatory cytokines release. However, SIRT1 inhibitor EX427 abolished the impact of SYR on LPS-induced pyroptosis in cardiomyocytes. Furthermore, molecular docking analysis predicted that there is high affinity between SYR and estrogen receptor (ER), ER inhibitor ICI182780, the specific ERβ inhibitor PHTP and the specific ERαinhibitor AZD9496 were used to examine the role of ER in the protective effect of SYR against SICD, and the results suggested that ER activation was essential for the cardioprotective function of SYR. Two new ent -atisane-type diterpenoids (1 and 2), three new lathyrane-type diterpenoids (3 – 5), and seven known analogues (6 – 12) were isolated from Euphorbia antiquorum. The structures of these diterpenoids were established by analysis of their NMR, MS, and electronic circular dichroism data. The anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated biologically and compounds 1 , 4 , 7 , 8 , and 10 displayed strong NO inhibitory effects with IC 50 values less than 40 μM. Background: Liriodendrin (LIR) has been reported to improve cardiac function in rats following myocardial infarction. However, its role and mechanism in reparative myocardial fibrosis remain unclear., Methods: In this study, a rat model of myocardial fibrosis was established via left anterior descending artery ligation and randomly divided into three groups (n = 6 per group): sham-operated, myocardial infarction, and LIR intervention (100 mg/kg/day) groups. The pharmacological effects of LIR were assessed using echocardiography, hematoxylin, and eosin (H&E) staining, and Masson staining. Network pharmacology and bioinformatics were utilized to identify potential mechanisms of LIR, which were further validated via western blot analysis., Results: Our findings demonstrated that LIR improved cardiac function, histology scores, and col lagen volume fraction. Moreover, LIR downregulated the expression of Beclin-1, LC3-II/LC3-I while upregulating the expression of p62, indicating LIR-inhibited autophagy in the heart after myocardial infarction. Further analysis revealed that the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway was significantly enriched and validated by western blot. Pancreatic cancer is accompanied by poor prognosis and accounts for a significant number of deaths every year. Since Psoralea corylifolia L. (PCL) possesses a broad spectrum of bioactivities, it is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. The study explored potential antitumor agents of PCL and underlying mechanisms in vitro and vivo . Based on network pharmacology, bioinformatics, and molecular docking, we considered isobavachalcone (IBC) as a valuable compound. The activity and potential mechanisms of IBC were investigated by RT-qPCR, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry. It was confirmed that IBC could inhibit Panc 02 cell proliferation and induce apoptosis via increasing the production of reactive oxygen species. IBC could attenuate the weight of solid tumors, increase CD8 + T cells, and reduce M2 macrophages in the tumor tissue and spleen. Another promising finding was that IBC alleviated the proportion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in the tumor tissue but had no change in the spleen. The study of pharmacological effects of IBC was carried out and suggested IBC restrained M2-like polarization of RAW 264.7 cells by inhibiting the expression of ARG1 and MRC1 and suppressed the expression of ARG1 and TGF-β in bone marrow-derived MDSC. In summary, this research screened IBC as an antineoplastic agent, which could attenuate the growth of pancreatic cancer via activating the immune activity and inducing cell apoptosis. Background: The incidence of liver cancer is increasing every year. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for nearly 90% of liver cancer, and the overall 5-year survival rate of become of Hepatocellular carcinoma patients less than 20%. However, the molecular mechanism of HCC progression and prognosis still requires further exploration., Methods: In this study, we downloaded the gene expression data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Genomic Data and the official website of GEO database. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and Pearson's correlation coefficient were utilized to detect the gene modules. The shared differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) were screened out by a Venn diagram, and the hub genes were identified through protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analyses. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses were constructed for these hub genes. Overall survival (OS) and correlation analysis were conducted to investigate the relationship between the hub genes and clinical features., Results: We screened out 27 shared DEGs, and the mainly enriched GO terms were mitotic nuclear division, chromosomal region, and tubulin binding. Furthermore, the top three enriched KEGG pathways were "cell cycle", "oocyte meiosis", and "p53 signaling pathway". According to the Maximal Clique Centrality (MCC) algorithm, the top 10 candidate hub genes were MYC , MCM3 , CDC20 , CCNB1 , BIRC5 , UBE2C , TOP2A , RRM2 , TK1 , and PTTG1 , among which BIRC5, CDC20, and UBE2C showed a strong correlation with the OS., Conclusions: Three hub genes ( BIRC5 , CDC20 , and UBE2C ) were identified and found to be correlated to the progression and prognosis of HCC. Albiziae Cortex (AC) is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine with sedative-hypnotic effects and neuroprotective ability. However, the bioactive components of AC responsible for the neuro-protective actitivity remain unknown. Here, we investigated the anti-neuroinflammatory effects of (-)-syringaresinol (SYR) extracted from AC in microglia cells and wild-type mice. As a result, (-)-SYR significantly reduced lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of interleukin - 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin -1 beta (IL-1β), cycloxygenase-2 (COX-2), and nitric oxide (NO) in BV2 microglia cells. (-)-SYR also significantly reduced M1 marker CD40 expression and increased M2 marker CD206 expression. Moreover, we found that (-)-SYR inhibited LPS-induced NF-κB activation by suppressing the translocation of NF-κB p65 into the nucleus in a concentration-dependent manner. Meanwhile, estrogen receptor β (ERβ) was found to be implied in the anti-inflammatory activity of (-)-SYR in BV2 microglia. In vivo experiments revealed that administration of (-)-SYR in mice significantly reduced microglia/astrocytes activation and mRNA levels of proinflammatory mediators. Taken together, our data indicated that (-)-SYR exerted the anti-neuroinflammatory effects by inhibiting NF-κB activation and modulation of microglia polarization, and via interaction with ERβ. Objectives: The present study aimed to develop a random forest (RF) based prediction model for hyperuricemia (HUA) and compare its performance with the conventional logistic regression (LR) model., Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 91,690 participants (14,032 with HUA, 77,658 without HUA). We constructed a RF-based prediction model in the training sets and evaluated it in the validation sets. Performance of the RF model was compared with the LR model by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis., Results: The sensitivity and specificity of the RF models were 0.702 and 0.650 in males, 0.767 and 0.721 in females. The positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were 0.372 and 0.881 in males, 0.159 and 0.978 in females. AUC of the RF models was 0.739 (0.728-0.750) in males and 0.818 (0.799-0.837) in females. AUC of the LR models were 0.730 (0.718-0.741) for males and 0.815 (0.795-0.835) for females. The predictive power of RF was slightly higher than that of LR, but was not statistically significant in females (Delong tests, P=0.0015 for males, P=0.5415 for females)., Conclusion: Compared with LR, the good performance in HUA status prediction and the tolerance of features associations or interactions showed great potential of RF in further application. A prospective cohort is necessary for HUA developing prediction. Ten new ent -kaurane diterpenoids, including two pairs of epimers 1 / 2 and 4 / 5 and a 6,7- seco - ent -kauranoid 10 , were obtained from the aerial parts of Isodon serra . The structures of the new compounds were confirmed by extensive spectroscopic methods and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data analysis. An anti-inflammatory assay was applied to evaluate their nitric oxide (NO) inhibitory activities by using LPS-stimulated BV-2 cells. Compounds 1 and 9 exhibited notable NO production inhibition with IC 50 values of 15.6 and 7.3 μM, respectively. Moreover, the interactions of some bioactive diterpenoids with inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) were explored by employing molecular docking studies.

Primary contents of dietary fat are three or four types of fatty acids, namely saturated fatty acid (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), n6-polyunsaturated fatty acid (n6PUFA) and, to less extent, n3-polyunsaturated fatty acid (n3PUFA). Previous studies suggest that increased SFA, MUFA, and n6PUFA in high fat diets (HFDs) stimulate the origination, growth, and liver metastasis of pancreatic cancer cells, whereas increased n3PUFA has the opposite effects. It is unclear whether the fatty acid-induced effects are based on changed fatty-acid composition of involved cells. Here, we investigated whether increased SFA, MUFA, n6PUFA, and n3PUFA in different HFDs determine the FA profiles of pancreatic cancer cells and their carrier's plasma, pancreas, and liver. We transplanted MiaPaCa2 human pancreatic cancer cells in athymic mice and fed them normal diet or four HFDs enriched with SFA, MUFA, n6PUFA, and n3PUFA, respectively. After 7 weeks, fatty acids were profiled in tumor, plasma, pancreas, and liver, using gas chromatography. When tumor carriers were fed four HFDs, the fatty acids that were increased dietarily were also increased in the plasma. When tumor carriers were fed MUFA-, n6PUFA-, and n3PUFA-enriched HFDs, the dietarily increased fatty acids were also increased in tumor, pancreas, and liver. When tumor-carriers were fed the SFA-enriched HFD featuring lauric and myristic acids (C12:0 and C14:0), tumor, pancreas, and liver showed an increase not in the same SFAs but palmitic acid (C16:0) and/or stearic acid (C18:0). In conclusion, predominant fatty acids in HFDs determine the fatty-acid profiles of pancreatic cancer cells and their murine carriers.

A phytochemical survey aiming to acquire pharmacologically active substances has resulted in the isolation of nine new clerodane diterpenoids, named graveospenes A-I ( 1 - 9 ), from the leaves of Casearia graveolens . Spectroscopic methods were employed to establish the structures with their absolute configurations being confirmed by ECD data analysis. A biological evaluation was performed, and compound 1 was found to be cytotoxic to both human lung cancer cells (A549) and human hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HepG2). A mechanism-of-action study on 1 revealed this compound to induce apoptosis of A549 cells and impede them at the G 0 /G 1 stage.

Sepsis is a major cause of death in intensive care units. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of resveratrol (RSV) on sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI). The underlying molecular mechanisms were deciphered by both in vitro and in vivo experiments. Polymicrobial sepsis was induced in C57BL/6 mice by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). RSV pretreatment significantly attenuated CLP-induced acute lung injury, which was associated with enhanced expression of VEGF-B. The protective properties of RSV were assayed in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated MH-S cells. We determine that RSV administration inhibited the increased production of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β in LPS-stimulated MH-S cells, which was associated with inhibition of the nuclear factor-κB, P38, and ERK signaling pathways. We also provide evidence that RSV administration reduced LPS-induced apoptosis of MH-S cells by altering the unbalance of Bax/Bcl-2 and inhibiting LPS-induced autophagy. The inhibitory effects of RSV on cytokine levels and apoptosis of alveolar macrophages were both blocked by VEGF-B siRNA. Furthermore, RSV administration regulated LPS-induced C5aR and C5L2 expression, revealing an additional mechanism underlying RSV's anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptosis effects. Collectively, these results demonstrated that RSV was able to protect against sepsis-induced acute lung injury by activating the VEGF-B signaling pathway., Competing Interests: None.
