This paper presents a 3D ray-tracing model using geometrical optics and the uniform theory of diffraction in radio channel characterizations of macrocellular environments. On the basis of the environmental information obtained from a digitized map, the model is effectively applied. A technique considering multiple reflections and diffractions through the ray path classification is utilized in this model. Ray paths belonging to each ray category are determined using different methods. The proposed model is justified (the prediction accuracy of the model is better than 6.5 dB) with measurement data for the two scenarios and can provide reliable theory as a basis for radio wave propagation prediction and network planning in urban macrocellular environments. During reentry, the high temperatures experienced by near-space hypersonic vehicles result in surface ablation, generating ablative particles. These particles become part of a plasma, commonly referred to as a "dusty plasma sheath" in radar remote sensing. The dusty plasma model, integral in radar studies, involves extensive charge and dynamic interactions among dust particles. Previous derivations assumed that the dust particle radius significantly surpassed the Debye radius, leading to the neglect of dust radius effects. This study, however, explores scenarios where the dust particle radius is not markedly smaller than the Debye radius, thereby deducing the charging process of dusty plasma. The derived equations encompass the Debye radius, charging process, surface potential, and charging frequency, particularly considering larger dust particle radii. Comparative analysis of the dusty plasma model, both before and after modification, reveals improvements when dust particles approach or exceed the Debye length. In essence, our study provides essential equations for understanding dusty plasma under realistic conditions, offering potential advancements in predicting electromagnetic properties and behaviors, especially in scenarios where dust particles closely align with or surpass the Debye radius. The rough structure may affect the flow field and electromagnetic (EM) scattering characteristics of a hypersonic vehicle. In this study, the EM scattering characteristics of the hypersonic vehicle RAM C-II with a microrough surface were investigated in the millimeter wave band. We first simulated the flow field of a smooth RAM C-II vehicle and calculated the radar cross section (RCS) in the wideband using the physical optics method. The calculation results show that many factors contribute to the variation in the RCS; however, it is occasionally difficult to predict. We then used a one-dimensional Gaussian random rough surface to generate a RAM C-II with a microrough surface through a point-coordinate transformation and simulated its flow field. The electron density flow field of the rough surfaced aircraft fluctuates greatly on the wall. Finally, we calculated the RCS of RAM C-II with different values of roughness in the millimeter wave band. The interaction mechanism between plasmas and electromagnetic waves has not been fully defined, and experiments are helpful for investigating the mechanism and verifying the theoretical analysis. This paper proposes a point-focusing lens antenna based on three-dimensional (3D) printing technology for the experimental study of the interaction between electromagnetic waves and a small-area plasma. First, CST simulation software was used for the simulation design of the horn antenna and focusing lens. Subsequently, 3D printing technology was used to print the lens combined with the horn antenna for experimental verification of the focusing performance. Finally, an electromagnetic wave passing through a plasma was experimentally investigated, and it was mutually verified with the propagation theory of electromagnetic waves in plasmas. The experimental and theoretical data indicated that the 3D-printed point-focusing lens antenna exhibited a good focusing effect on electromagnetic waves. This method may be used by employing a variety of materials and designs, thereby considerably improving the detection of small-area plasma. It may also solve the issue of the radial diffraction effect of narrow cylindrical plasma generated by inductively coupled plasma-generation equipment and reduce the error associated with experimental data. Plasma shock waves represent high-speed, nonlinear motion states of plasma in which the physical parameters of fluid, such as density, temperature, and velocity, vary dramatically within a limited space. These variations make studying electromagnetic wave propagation in plasma shock waves difficult. In this study, we calculate the spatial distribution of the plasma frequency and collision frequency in the plasma shock layer based on the one-dimensional structure of the plasma shock wave. In the process from upstream to downstream of the plasma shock wave, the plasma frequency increases as a function of electron density; downstream, the plasma frequency increases as a function of the free stream Mach number, while the collision frequency decreases first and then increases. We also use the recursive convolution finite-difference time-domain method to calculate the propagation of the electromagnetic wave in the plasma shock layer. The absorption of the plasma shock layer to the electromagnetic wave decreases gradually as a function of the electromagnetic wave frequency. The absorption of the plasma shock layer downstream of the electromagnetic wave is greater than that upstream owing to the larger plasma frequency. In the case of low-Mach numbers, the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave downstream is larger than that upstream. In the case of high-Mach numbers, the thickness of the entire shock layer is much greater than that at low-Mach numbers. Due to the nonlinear effects of electromagnetic processes in plasmas, a modulation phenomenon occurs when electromagnetic waves propagate in the shock layer. In the case of low frequencies, the electromagnetic wave gave rise to a modulation phenomenon that resembled the beat phenomenon. When the electromagnetic wave frequency increased, a modulation phenomenon gradually appeared that resembled the oscillation superimposed on a sine wave. In this paper, we obtain the intensity and phase distributions of the scattering and external fields of a vector Bessel–Gaussian vortex beam in the far-field region after being scattered by a particle. In our analysis, we use the Generalized Lorenz–Mie theory (GLMT) and the angular spectrum decomposition method (ASDM). The orbital angular momentum (OAM) spectra of the fields are analyzed by using the spiral spectrum expansion method, which is a frequently used tool for studying the propagation of vortex beams in turbulent atmospheres. Both scattered and external fields show a significant difference in spiral spectra for particles with different characteristic parameters, such as the size and complex refractive index. We also examine sampling the phase along with a circle and show that it is unable to fully express the information of the fields. This study can provide a theoretical basis for the inversion of characteristic parameters of the Bessel–Gaussian vortex beam and spherical particle by OAM spectra with applications in remote sensing engineering. Dusty plasma environments, such as aircraft sheaths and rocket exhaust plumes, significantly affect the propagation of electromagnetic (EM) waves. In this study, the Mie theory and the dyadic Green method were used to calculate the Mie scattering cross section, Debye scattering cross section of the surrounding Debye cloud, and Mie–Debye coherence cross section formed by the two scattering fields. We propose that the Mie–Debye model should be regarded as a whole particle, and the dusty plasma can be simplified by assuming that it is composed of Mie–Debye spherical models of different densities. These assumptions were combined with the scattering characteristics of the microscopic Mie–Debye model and Monte Carlo method to analyze the propagation characteristics of EM waves in dusty plasma. In this study, new expressions for wave structure functions (WSFs) for optical planes and spherical waves propagating in plasma turbulence are derived based on the refractive index undulation power spectrum of hypersonic plasma turbulence and Rytov approximation theory. On this basis, the mathematical expressions for plasma turbulence modulation transfer function (MTF) for optical planes and spherical waves are obtained using WSF expression. The mathematical expressions describe the attenuation effect of plasma turbulence on optical imaging systems. The effects of different wavelengths, turbulent outer scales, and refractive index undulation variance on plasma turbulence MTF were calculated and analyzed. Results show that increasing the incident wavelength reduces the effect of plasma turbulence on the imaging system. The seawater ionic relaxation processes under magnetic field (B=0.38T) reveal in the properties of conductivity. The conductivity of electrolyte solutions were measured at different concentrations, after application of magnetic field the value of conductivity changed. It was found that the frequency dependence conductivity increase at low frequency and at high frequency the conductivity decrease it is consistent with the theory of Debye-Falkenhagen and the frequency dependence of conductivity decrease with concentration increase occur at low frequency no matter with magnetic field or without it. The results also shown that the relaxation time decrease with the effect of magnetic field.

Electron density is one of the most important parameters for characterizing plasma properties, so obtaining accurate electron density is a prerequisite for studying the interaction between plasma and the electromagnetic waves. This paper presents the effects of different electron densities on the electric field distribution of a microstrip antenna with a center frequency of 2.45 GHz. Then, on the basis of the integrated model of plasma and the microstrip antenna, the Bayesian regularization neural network (BRNN) is used to retrieve the electron density of inhomogeneous plasma. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed approach is evaluated and analyzed by comparison with Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) and Scaled Conjugate Gradient (SCG) neural networks. The results show that the BRNN provides better performance than LM and SCG neural networks to retrieve plasma electron density based on the electric field intensity at fewer spatial positions. The accurate distribution of the electron density of inhomogeneous plasma can be obtained using BRNN. In addition, the greater the range variation of electron density, the greater the relative inversion error. This paper introduces the propagation properties and polarization characteristics of radially polarized partially coherent vortex beams in anisotropic plasma turbulence and discusses in detail the distribution of light intensity in such beams as a function of propagation distance. In addition, we analyze how the parameters of the anisotropic plasma turbulence affect the degree of polarization, polarization orientation angle, and degree of ellipticity of the beam. The results show that the degree of polarization of the radially polarized partially coherent vortex beam satisfies the modification of the central origin zero and the gradual increase with the radius during plasma turbulent propagation. At the same time, smaller turbulence eddies in the anisotropic plasma turbulence render, more obvious the irregular structure perpendicular to the vortex-stretching direction, the smaller the influence on the polarization characteristics of the radially polarized partially coherent vortex beam. The attenuation characteristics of obliquely incident electromagnetic (EM) wave in L-Ka frequency band in weakly ionized dusty plasma are analyzed based on the modified Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) collision model. According to the kinetic equation and the charging theory, the total complex dielectric constant of the weakly ionized dusty plasma is derived by considering that the minimum velocity of the electron accessible to the dust particle surface is non-zero and the second potential part of the collision cross-section contributes to the charging. The attenuation characteristics within the modified model are compared with those within the traditional model. The influence of the dusty plasma parameters and the incident angle of EM waves on the attenuation in weakly ionized dusty plasma is further analyzed. Finally, the influence of different reentry heights on the attenuation characteristics of the obliquely incident EM wave is discussed. The results show that the effect of the minimum electron velocity and the second term of the collision cross-section on the attenuation characteristics of EM waves cannot be ignored. When the dust density and dust radius are changed, the trends of the attenuation of obliquely incident EM waves are consistent, but the influence of dust density is weaker than that of dust radius due to the constraint of orbit-limited motion (OLM) theory. The plasma thickness, electron density, and incident angle are proportional to the attenuation amplitude of EM waves. A new electromagnetic (EM) calculation model, the inhomogeneity zonal medium model (IZMM) (based on the physical optics (PO) method), is proposed to calculate and analyze the EM scattering characteristics of hypersonic vehicle covered with a plasma sheath. First, the flow field of the plasma sheath is divided into nonuniform calculation subregions with different spacing sizes. The shape of the external flow field of the aircraft is modeled by fitting with a paraboloid and circular platform with different radii. Then, the electron density, temperature, and pressure distribution are obtained by collecting data from different points in the flow field of the sheath. Finally, a piecewise PO method is used to calculate the backscattering radar cross section (BRCS) of the hypersonic vehicle covered with plasma sheath from $L$ -band to $X$ -band. The numerical results show that the EM scattering characteristics of a target spacecraft covered with a plasma sheath can be described more accurately by using zoned medium model simulation. Under different flying conditions, the BRCS of hypersonic vehicle covered with a plasma sheath appears to be reduced to different degrees in the $S$ -band and the band range of 7–11 GHz, and a large attenuation of BRCS occurs in the head area of the aircraft. The research results enrich the EM modeling method of hypersonic vehicles, overcome some shortcomings of the existing PO method, and provide technical support and innovative ideas for the accurate analysis of the EM scattering characteristics of hypersonic targets. The effects of nonuniform moving plasma on the polarization properties of electromagnetic (EM) waves were theoretically studied. Taking the ${L}$ -band right-hand circularly polarized (RHCP) wave as an example, based on the nonuniform moving plasma slab moving perpendicularly to the incident wave, the relationship between the polarization properties of the transmitted wave and the normalized velocity of the nonuniform plasma slab was analyzed. The results indicate that the polarization state of the transmitted wave is closely related to the normalized velocity of the nonuniform plasma slab. When the plasma slab approaches to the incident wave, its influence on the polarization properties is greater than that away from the incident wave. In addition, when the change of the polarization state reaches the maximum, the corresponding normalized velocity is mainly determined by the incident angle and the collision frequency. To investigate the electromagnetic scattering problem related to a foil in a turbulent hypersonic plasma environment, the scattering field formulas for hypersonic plasma turbulence were improved by applying the anisotropic power spectrum. Using the theory of electromagnetic scattering of a conducting object, the second moment of a conducting object's scattering field is obtained in the hypersonic plasma turbulence. Finally, the backscattering cross-section of the foil surrounded by the hypersonic plasma turbulence was calculated. The results showed that the fractal dimension led to an increase in the complexity of the hypersonic turbulent structure, and thus had a greater influence on the electromagnetic wave scattering. The scattering cross-section of the foil in the hypersonic turbulence decreases rapidly. Meanwhile, the anisotropic parameters in the model represent scale-dependent stretching of the turbulent eddy. As the anisotropic parameters of the turbulence increase, there will be less scattering of the hypersonic turbulence. At this point, the total scattering cross-section of the foil in hypersonic plasma turbulence increases gradually. By improving the aerodynamic shape of the aircraft, it can produce a large number of anisotropic turbulent eddies which can effectively improve the passive jamming capability when the foil is cast. The influence of weakly ionized dusty plasma on electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation was investigated to understand blackouts in communications during the reentry of hypersonic vehicles. Adopting the Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) collision model and charging theory, the total complex dielectric constant of weakly ionized dusty plasma is derived considering solely: 1) a nonzero minimum velocity of the electron; 2) a contribution of the second term of the collision cross-section; and finally, 3) both 1) and 2) considered. Using the propagation matrix method, we analyzed the dielectric constant and propagation properties from our modified models and those of the traditional model for weakly ionized plasma with and without dust. The results show that, regarding EM waves, the dust-free weakly ionized plasma has a larger coefficient of reflection than weakly ionized dusty plasma. Simultaneous considering nonzero velocity and contribution of the second term of the collision cross-section significantly changed the dielectric constant and propagation properties, indicating the nonnegligible role of these two factors. Furthermore, the influence of dust size and concentration on the propagation properties of the EM wave was discussed with considering the two factors. The simulated results show that the coefficient of absorption increases and the coefficient of transmission decreases with increase in size and concentration of dust particles. On the basis of the fractal theory and measurements of hypersonic turbulence, the spectral index, and twodimensional (2D) power spectrum of the refractive index fluctuation are derived, and the 2D band-limited Weierstrass fractal function is applied to simulate the refractive index fluctuation in hypersonic turbulence. Thus, the impact of hypersonic turbulence on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging system is simulated using the fractal phase screen method. Results show that the resolution of SAR imaging is severely deteriorated under the influence of hypersonic turbulence. The phase error caused by the turbulence microstructures in the plasma sheath becomes more apparent with the increase in the fractal dimension of the hypersonic turbulence. The larger Reynolds number associated with the hypersonic turbulence results in a more evident microstructure fluctuation and inferior imaging quality. Furthermore, when an aircraft flies at high speed, the azimuth focus is considerably sensitive to the turbulence microstructure along the direction of flow field. In order to study the electromagnetic wave transmission characteristics in seawater under external physical effects, we present a study of seawater ionic solution and perform a theoretical basis of magnetic field on water molecules and ionic motion to investigate the variation of dielectric properties with frequency under static magnetic field (0.38 T). Seawater is a naturally multi-component electrolyte solution, the main ingredients in seawater are inorganic salts, such as NaCl, MgSO4, MgCl2, CaCl2, KCl, NaHCO3, etc. The dielectric properties of these electrolyte solutions with different salinity values (0.01-5%) were measured in frequencies ranging from 40 to 5 MHz at 12C. The results show that the dielectric constant decreases with increasing frequencies no matter with magnetic field or without it. Frequency dependence of the dielectric constant of NaCl solution increases under magnetic field at measure concentrations. In a solution of MgCl2 ⋅ 6H2O, KCl and NaHCO3 are consistent with NaCl solution, while CaCl2 ⋅ 2H2O solution is in contrast with it. We also find that dielectric loss plays a major role in complex permittivity. With the effect of magnetic field, the proportion of dielectric loss is reducing in complex permittivity. Anisotropic spatial distribution data of refractive-index fluctuation in hypersonic turbulence are obtained based on the experimental images of hypersonic turbulence. Furthermore, taking re-entry turbulent plasma fluctuation into consideration, the variance of the refractive-index fluctuation in hypersonic plasma is calculated based on the Saha equation and the expression of refractive index in hypersonic plasma. On this basic, the anisotropic power-spectral model of hypersonic plasma turbulence is established by introducing the orientation factor to the modified von Karman spectrum. Finally, the mutual coherence function (MCF) and the angle-of-arrival fluctuations of electromagnetic (EM) waves propagation in hypersonic plasma turbulence are calculated. Results show that the angle-of-arrival fluctuations have obvious differences between the directions of vertical to turbulent plasma flow field and parallel to it. The various gradients of the electron density along the direction of vertical to turbulent plasma flow field are far greater than the parallel to it, which causes the horizontal scale is larger than perpendicular scale of plasma eddies. Therefore, when EM waves propagating through plasma turbulence, the refractive effect of plasma eddies show obvious anisotropy. 3-D time-varying and spatially nonuniform plasma is applied using the finite-difference time-domain algorithm in investigating the effects of electromagnetic (EM) wave scattering in the plasma sheath. The plasma sheath is stratified in space, and three types of electron density in time-varying forms are assumed. The characteristics of different time-varying forms are analyzed using radar cross section (RCS). In addition, the effects of RCS change with time at S - and L -bands are investigated using electron density as the time variable. We demonstrated an asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine betaines with alkylidene malonates by using a chiral N, N′-dioxide-NiII complex as a catalyst. Both aromatic- and aliphatic-substituted alkylidene malonates were found to be suitable for the reaction. A range of trans-pyrazolone derivatives was exclusively obtained with excellent yields (up to 99 % yield) and good enantioselectivities (up to 97 % ee) under mild reaction conditions. The reaction could be carried out on a gram scale with the good results being maintained. Control experiments were performed to elucidate the specific diastereoselectivity of the reaction. The formation of single trans isomers was dominated by secondary orbital interactions between the ester groups of the dipolarophile and the azomethine imine. Based on the detection platform of space-borne radar (SBR), the dynamic electromagnetic (EM) scattering characteristics of a hypersonic vehicle covered with plasma sheath are calculated and analyzed by the physical optics (PO) method. Using the angle-time conversion method, the dynamic radar cross section (DRCS) of the vehicle in horizontal flying path and different flying states is solved in the range of L-band to X-band. The relevant effective statistical features are extracted from the time-scale matrix of DRCS based on continuous wavelet transform (CWT). The numerical results show that: At different flying altitudes, the backscattering radar cross section (BRCS) of the hypersonic vehicle covered with plasma sheath has irregular fluctuation and large range reduction in the head region of the vehicle. Generally, the higher the incident EM wave frequency is, the more detailed the fluctuation characteristics of the DRCS can be reflected. Within the same radar illuminate angle range, the time consumed by the vehicle DRCS is inversely proportional to the flying height and flying speed and is directly proportional to the detection altitude of the SBR. • The aging behavior of HSMB and LSMB under heat and UV were investigated. • The microstructure and chemical structure of HSMB and LSMB were analyzed. • The aging reaction rate and activation energy of LSMB and HSMB were studied. In this paper, the aging behavior of high dosage styrene–butadienestyrene (SBS) modified bitumen (HSMB) for waterproof materials and low dosage SBS modified bitumen (LSMB) for pavement were investigated. The effects of heat as well as ultraviolet-heat synergism on properties and chemical structure of HSMB and LSMB were evaluated by physical properties, fluorescence microscope (FM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that the change of softening point and low temperature flexibility of HSMB was much less than that of LSMB after heat aging, which indicated that the aging resistance of HSMB was better than that of LSMB. The physical properties changes of HSMB and LSMB after UV-heat synergism aging were much serious than that of HSMB and LSMB after heat aging. FM indicated that HSMB showed the network structure, and its structure was only partially destroyed after heat aging and completely destroyed after UV-heat synergism aging, while LSMB presented the sea-island structure, and the sea-island structure almost disappeared after aging. FTIR also showed that the change of carbonyl index (I C = O ), sulfoxide index (I S = O ) and butadiene double bonds index (I C = C ) of HSMB was smaller than that of LSMB after aging. The aging kinetic models of HSMB and LSMB were established by viscosity, the aging kinetic models showed that HSMB had lower aging reaction rate and larger activation energy than LSMB under the same aging condition, which meant that HSMB had better aging resistance. Background: Parkinson's disease (PD), which is associated to autoimmune disorders, is characterized by the pathological deposition of alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) and loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons. Th17 cells are thought to be responsible for the direct loss of DA neurons. C-C chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5) specifically induces Th17 cell infiltration into the SN. However, the specific effect of CCL5 on Th17 cells in PD and the relationship between CCL5 and lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) expression in Th17 cells are unknown., Methods: We evaluated the effects of CCL5 on LFA-1 expression in Th17 cells in mice treated with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) and examined Th17 cell differentiation upon CCL5 stimulation in vitro . Furthermore, we assessed the effects of CCL5 on tyrosine kinase zeta-chain-associated protein kinase 70 (ZAP70) and lymphocyte-specific protein tyrosine kinase (LCK) activity in CCL5-stimulated Th17 cells in vivo and in vitro ., Results: CCL5 increased the proportion of peripheral Th17 cells in MPTP-treated mice, LFA-1 expression on Th17 cells, and Th17 cell levels in the SN of MPTP-treated mice. CCL5 promoted Th17 cell differentiation and LFA-1 expression in naive T cells in vitro . Moreover, CCL5 increased Th17 cell differentiation and LFA-1 expression by stimulating LCK and ZAP70 activation in naive CD4 + T cells. Background: Soluble fragment of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a biomarker of microglial activation and increased in several neurodegenerative diseases. However, the role of sTREM2 in Parkinson's diseases (PDs) remains unclear. This study aims to investigate whether CSF sTREM2 is changed during the pathology of PD and its association with cognitive decline., Methods: We recruited 219 de novo patients with PD and 100 healthy controls from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI). Cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between cognition and CSF sTREM2 were evaluated using multivariable-adjusted models. To assess the changes in CSF sTREM2 during the pathology of PD, patients were classified through the A/T classification framework with addition of α-synuclein (α-syn), which we implemented based on the CSF amyloid β-peptide 1-42 (A) and phosphorylated tau (T) and α-syn (S)., Results: The CSF sTREM2 did not differ between healthy controls and patients with PD or between PD clinical subgroups ( p > 0.05). However, higher baseline CSF sTREM2 predicted greater global cognitive decline in patients with PD (β = -0.585, p = 0.039). Moreover, after a mean follow-up of 5.51 ± 1.31 years, baseline CSF sTREM2 that elevated in the middle tertile (HR = 2.426, 95% CI: 1.023-5.754, p = 0.044) and highest tertile (HR = 2.833, 95% CI: 1.226-6.547, p = 0.015) were associated with a future high risk of cognitive decline. Additionally, CSF sTREM2 decreased in abnormal Aβ pathology (A+) and α-syn pathology (S+) but normal tau pathology, while increased in abnormal phosphorylated tau (T+) ( p < 0.05)., Conclusion: CSF sTREM2 may be a promising predictor for the cognitive decline in PD rather than a diagnostic biomarker. Orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode crosstalk induced by atmospheric turbulence is a challenging phenomenon commonly occurring in OAM-based free-space optical (FSO) communication. Recent advances have facilitated new practicable methods using abruptly autofocusing light beams for weakening the turbulence effect on the FSO link. In this work, we show that a circular phase-locked Airy vortex beam array (AVBA) with sufficient elements has the inherent ability to form an abruptly autofocusing light beam carrying OAM, and its focusing properties can be controlled on demand by adjusting the topological charge values and locations of these vortices embedded in the array elements. The performance of a tailored Airy vortex beam array (TAVBA) through atmospheric turbulence is numerically studied. In a comparison with the ring Airy vortex beam (RAVB), the results indicate that TAVBA can be a superior light source for effectively reducing the intermodal crosstalk and vortex splitting, thus leading to improvement in the FSO system performance.

We introduce an alternative distribution to the gamma-gamma (GG) distribution, called inverse Gaussian gamma (IGG) distribution, which can efficiently describe moderate-to-strong irradiance fluctuations. The proposed stochastic model is based on a modulation process between small- and large-scale irradiance fluctuations, which are modeled by gamma and inverse Gaussian distributions, respectively. The model parameters of the IGG distribution are directly related to atmospheric parameters. The accuracy of the fit among the IGG, log-normal, and GG distributions with the experimental probability density functions in moderate-to-strong turbulence are compared, and results indicate that the newly proposed IGG model provides an excellent fit to the experimental data. As the receiving diameter is comparable with the atmospheric coherence radius, the proposed IGG model can reproduce the shape of the experimental data, whereas the GG and LN models fail to match the experimental data. The fundamental channel statistics of a free-space optical communication system are also investigated in an IGG-distributed turbulent atmosphere, and a closed-form expression for the outage probability of the system is derived with Meijer's G-function.

Based on the complex-source-point method and the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory, the scattering properties and polarization of aerosol particles by a Hermite-Gaussian (HG) beam in marine atmosphere is investigated. The influences of beam mode, beam width, and humidity on the scattered field are analyzed numerically. Results indicate that when the number of HG beam modes u (v) increase, the radar cross section of aerosol particles alternating appears at maximum and minimum values in the forward and backward scattering, respectively, because of the special petal-shaped distribution of the HG beam. The forward and backward scattering of aerosol particles decreases with the increase in beam waist. When beam waist is less than the radius of the aerosol particle, a minimum value is observed in the forward direction. The scattering properties of aerosol particles by the HG beam are more sensitive to the change in relative humidity compared with those by the plane wave and the Gaussian beam (GB). The HG beam shows superiority over the plane wave and the GB in detecting changes in the relative humidity of marine atmosphere aerosol. The effects of relative humidity on the polarization of the HG beam have been numerically analyzed in detail.

The probability densities of orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes of the autofocusing Airy beam (AAB) carrying power-exponent-phase vortex (PEPV) after passing through the weak anisotropic non-Kolmogorov turbulent atmosphere are theoretically formulated. It is found that the AAB carrying PEPV is the result of the weighted superposition of multiple OAM modes at differing positions within the beam cross-section, and the mutual crosstalk among different OAM modes will compensate the distortion of each OAM mode and be helpful for boosting the anti-jamming performance of the communication link. Based on numerical calculations, the role of the wavelength, waist width, topological charge and power order of PEPV in the probability density distribution variations of OAM modes of the AAB carrying PEPV is explored. Analysis shows that a relatively small beam waist and longer wavelength are good for separating the detection regions between signal OAM mode and crosstalk OAM modes. The probability density distribution of the signal OAM mode does not change obviously with the topological charge variation; but it will be greatly enhanced with the increase of power order. Furthermore, it is found that the detection region center position of crosstalk OAM mode is an emergent property resulting from power order and topological charge. Therefore, the power order can be introduced as an extra steering parameter to modulate the probability density distributions of OAM modes. These results provide guidelines for the design of an optimal detector, which has potential application in optical vortex communication systems.

Background: Sodium copper chlorophyllin (SCC), as one of the derivatives of chlorophyll - with its inherent green features; good stability for heat, light, acids and alkalies; unique antimicrobial capability; and particular deodori zation performance - is widely applied in some fields such as the food industry, medicine and health care, daily cosmetic industry etc. SCC, as one of the metal porphyrins, has attracted much attention because of its unique electronic band structure and photon conversion performance. To promote the application of SCC in materials science; energy research and photonics, such as fast optical communications; and its use in nonlinear optical materials, solar photovoltaic cells, all-optical switches, optical limiters and saturable absorbers, great efforts should be dedicated to studying its nonlinear optical (NLO) properties., Methods: In this study, the absorption spectra and NLO properties of SCC in aqueous solution at different concentrations were measured. The Z-scan technique was used to determine NLO properties., Results: The results indicated that the absorption spectra of SCC exhibit 2 characteristic absorption peaks located at the wavelengths 405 and 630 nm, and the values of the peaks increase with increasing SCC concentration. The results also showed that SCC exhibits reverse saturation absorption and negative nonlinear refraction (self-defocusing)., Conclusions: It can be seen that SCC has good optical nonlinearity which will be convenient for applications in materials science, energy research and photonics.

An anisotropic power spectrum of the refractive-index fluctuation in hypersonic turbulence was obtained by processing the experimental image of the hypersonic plasma sheath and transforming the generalized anisotropic von Kármán spectrum. The power spectrum suggested here can provide as good a fit to measured spectrum data for hypersonic turbulence as that recorded from the nano-planar laser scattering image. Based on the newfound anisotropic hypersonic turbulence power spectrum, Rytov approximation was employed to establish the wave structure function and the spatial coherence radius model of electromagnetic beam propagation in hypersonic turbulence. Enhancing the anisotropy characteristics of the hypersonic turbulence led to a significant improvement in the propagation performance of electromagnetic beams in hypersonic plasma sheath. The influence of hypersonic turbulence on electromagnetic beams increases with the increase of variance of the refractive-index fluctuation and the decrease of turbulence outer scale and anisotropy parameters. The spatial coherence radius was much smaller than that in atmospheric turbulence. These results are fundamental to understanding electromagnetic wave propagation in hypersonic turbulence.

Rytov theory was employed to establish the transmission model for the optical vortices carried by Bessel-Gaussian (BG) beams in weak anisotropic turbulence based on the generalized anisotropic von Karman spectrum. The influences of asymmetry anisotropic turbulence eddies and source parameters on the signal orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode detection probability of partially coherent BG beams in anisotropic turbulence were discussed. Anisotropic characteristics of the turbulence could enhance the OAM mode transmission performance. The spatial partially coherence of the beam source would increase turbulent aberration's effect on the optical vortices. BG beams could dampen the influences of the turbulence because of their nondiffraction and self-healing characteristics.
