Hybrid rice typically surpasses conventional rice in terms of biomass, yield, and stress resistance, whereas developing and utilizing saline–alkali-tolerant hybrid rice is crucial to obtain crop harvests from salt-affected soils. In the present study, conventional rice varieties (paternal parents), i.e., Hua-Zhan and 9311, and four hybrid varieties, i.e., Xiang-Liang-You-Hua-Zhan, Jing-Liang-You-Hua-Zhan, Guang-8-You-Hua-Zhan, and Y-Liang-You-1-Hao, denoted as V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, and V6, respectively, received an application of two salt levels, i.e., 0% and 0.3% saltwater irrigation, during 2022–2023. The results reveal that the V1 (parental parent) had the highest salt tolerance index, which was significantly greater than that of its hybrid rice varieties, i.e., V3, V4, and V5. Moreover, the salt tolerance index of V2 (paternal parent) was also greater than that of its hybrid rice (V6). The lower salt tolerance index of the hybrid varieties might be owing to the lower relative loss number of effective panicles, total number of grains per panicle, seed setting rate, and thousand-grain weight. Moreover, our study revealed that the appearance of different rice varieties was enhanced at a salt concentration of 0.3%. Among all the rice cultivars, the largest reductions in chalkiness and chalky grain rate were observed in hybrid rice V3, i.e., 81.13% and 63.49%, as well as V6, i.e., 84.03% and 87.53%, respectively. The protein and sodium contents and sodium-potassium ratio of all the rice cultivars increased significantly under salt stress; however, no significant effect on cooking or sensory quality were noticed in all rice varieties under saline conditions. Overall, salt stress negatively affected the grain yield and quality, but hybrid rice is more salt-tolerant than conventional rice, harnessing heterosis to improve the yield of saline-tolerant rice. Accelerating the kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is vital for high-efficiency green hydrogen production. However, developing cost-effective and highly active bifunctional catalysts for overall water splitting electrolysis remains a huge challenge. Herein, the CuNi/CoFe LDH heterostructure is synthesized in situ on nickel foam (CuNi/CoFe LDH@NF) by a simple two-step electrodeposition process. The synergy of the CuNi alloy and CoFe LDH optimizes the electron distribution at the interface and improves the intrinsic activity of the HER/OER. Consequently, the optimal CuNi/CoFe LDH@NF bifunctional catalyst displays low overpotentials of 56 mV (10 mA cm−2) and 268 mV (50 mA cm−2) for the HER and OER, respectively, along with high stability in alkaline electrolyte. Remarkably, CuNi/CoFe LDH@NF as the cathode and anode requires a low voltage (1.49 V) to achieve 10 mA cm−2 for overall water splitting. Meanwhile, it also displays favorable stability for operation for 17 h (50 mA cm−2) without obvious decline of the cell voltage. Density functional theory calculations indicate that constructing heterojunction interfaces promotes the redistribution of interface electrons and optimizes the free energy of adsorbed intermediates, thereby reducing the energy barrier of the rate-determining step (from *O to *OOH). The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) plays a central role in energy conversion and storage technologies. A promising alternative to precious metal catalysts are non-precious metal doped carbons. Considerable efforts have been devoted to cobalt-doped carbonized polyacrylonitrile catalysts, but the optimization of their catalytic performance remains a key challenge. We have proposed a multifunctional active metal source strategy based on the cobalt complex with the ligand containing pyridine and azo-fragments. This complex simultaneously provides the nitrogenous environment for the Co atoms and acts as a blowing agent due to N2 extrusion, thus increasing the surface area and porosity of the material. This strategy provided the catalysts with a high surface area and pore volume, combined with the greater fraction of Co-N clusters, and a lesser amount and smaller size of Co metal particles compared to conventionally prepared catalysts, resulting in improved catalytic performance. In addition to strict 4-electron ORR kinetics and 383 mV overpotential, the novel catalysts exhibit limiting current values close to the Pt/C benchmark and greatly overcome the Pt in methanol tolerance. Soil salinization is one of the most important abiotic stresses which can seriously affect the growth and development of rice, leading to the decrease in or even loss of a rice harvest. Increasing the rice yield of saline soil is a key issue for agricultural production. The utilization of heterosis could significantly increase crop biomass and yield, which might be an effective way to meet the demand for rice cultivation in saline soil. In this study, to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of rice hybrids and their parents that respond to salt stress, we investigated the phenotypic characteristics, physiological and biochemical indexes, and expression level of salt-related genes at the seedling stage. In this study, two sets of materials, encapsulating the most significant differences between the rice hybrids and their parents, were screened using the salt damage index and a hybrid superiority analysis. Compared with their parents, the rice hybrids Guang-Ba-You-Hua-Zhan (BB1) and Y-Liang-You-900 (GD1) exhibited much better salt tolerance, including an increased fresh weight and higher survival rate, a better scavenging ability towards reactive oxygen species (ROS), better ionic homeostasis with lower content of Na+ in their Na+/K+ ratio, and a higher expression of salt-stress-responsive genes. These results indicated that rice hybrids developed complex regulatory mechanisms involving multiple pathways and genes to adapt to salt stress and provided a physiological basis for the utilization of heterosis for improving the yield of rice under salt stress. Sepsis is a life‐threatening disease characterized by multiple organ dysfunction. B cells play a pivotal role in sepsis. Here, we first observed the significantly reduced Flot2 gene expression in B cells from patients with bacterial sepsis and endotoxin‐induced septic mice. However, the effects of Flot2 on sepsis and B‐cell immunity remain unknown. Thus, we sorted B cells from Flot2 knockout (Flot2−/−) mice, RNA‐seq revealed significantly upregulated effector B cell (Beff) cytokines such as Il6, Il1b and Cxcl10 after Flot2 deficiency, while it showed no effect on the expression of regulatory B cell (Breg) cytokines such as Il10, Tgfb. Consistently, elevated Beff cytokine IL‐6 and unchanged Breg cytokine IL‐10 were shown in B cells from Flot2−/− mice. Similar results were subsequently observed in B cell‐specific Flot2 knockout chimeric mice. Notably, Flot2 deficiency aggravated sepsis with increased lung injury and shortened survival time in vivo by facilitating Beffs but not Bregs. Taken together, our data identify Flot2 as a novel controller of B cells, Flot2 deficiency amplifies inflammation by affecting Beffs to participate in the pathogenesis and progression of sepsis.
