River basins receive wastewater from socio-economic activities. In such a context, a comprehensive assessment and forecast of load-bearing capacity needs to be developed. This capacity depends on many complex factors, such as hydrology, hydraulics, and environment, leading to applying a modelling approach. This study aims to propose a hybrid modelling approach to evaluate and predict the river water environmental capacity (RWEC) in a basin. Big data technology with Python is applied to process modelling results and RWEC forecasts. The long short-term memory (LSTM) model predicts RWEC on each reach of the river channel network. The {RWECP, i, P = Nitrate, BOD, Phosphate, i = hourly} data set and related factors form a time series of data used for the LSTM forecasting model. Forecast results are evaluated through the root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE). The results show that the average level over all 24 reaches for 7 forecast days: RMSENitrate = 22.16 (kg/day), RMSEBOD = 38.92 (kg/day), and RMSEPhosphate = 0.79 (kg/day). This is an acceptable result for a complex system and 7-day forecast. The results of the study help significantly with pollution control. Ho Chi Minh City authorities are currently developing PM2.5 pollution control measures and implementing the Clean Air Plan (CAP) with a vision for 2030. This mission will be more convincing if the benefits from these control measures are argued. At the same time, decision-makers always need practical tools to perform assessments, compare different scenarios, quantify the impact of PM2.5 exposure and demonstrate the effectiveness of PM2.5 pollution reduction program. This study aims to present a modelling framework platform implemented in the Environment, Public Health, and Economic Benefit Management Support Integrated System (HEBIS) through a comparative analysis based on CAP's health benefit-to-control cost ratio. Moreover, implementing CAP measures also created net benefits as improvements in public health were generally much higher than technical costs. These results are the evidence to prioritize implementing different air pollution solutions from CAP. Furthermore, the HEBIS tool has provided a practical framework by which managers could further build appropriate policies to achieve multiple environmental, economic, and human health benefits.

River water environmental capacity (RWEC) is an essential indicator of sustainable development. However, there are several studies on the dependence of RWEC on hydrological and hydraulic factors, especially self-cleaning ability. This study aims to clarify the role of self-cleaning factors in RWEC formation in a specific river basin. The method used in this study employed a set of models, including hydrological and eco-hydrodynamic models, with an added set of water quality parameters. The proposed research framework was applied to a specific river basin for four selected pollutants: NH4+, NO3-, PO43-, and BOD. The results revealed that the self-cleaning factors contributed significantly to the increase in RWEC. Specifically, RWECNH4+ improved by 22.6 % in the wet season and 22.7 % in the dry season; RWECNO3- improved by 10.22 % and 13.08 % in the wet and dry seasons, respectively; RWECPO43- exhibited the most significant improvement (143 % and 73 %, respectively), RWECBOD in the dry season decreased slightly by about 9%, the wet season increased by 88.34%. Our results demonstrate the critical role of self-cleaning factors in improving the carrying capacity, leading to developing medium- and long-term plans to preserve ecosystems in river systems in different basins.

The Lower Mekong Delta region (LMD) accounts for 90% of Vietnam's rice exports; however, the air quality in the LMD is remarkably reduced by ground-level ozone (O3) pollution. This study aimed to quantify the relative yield and economic value losses in rice-growing crop seasons affected by ground-level O3 concentrations across the LMD. The results of this study can serve as a basis for extensive assessments for the following years and support environmental managers to propose control measures of O3 precursor emissions (NOx and VOCs) from man-made sectors, as well as build protective solutions for rice farming in LMD. Two ground-level O3 exposure metrics of M7 and AOT40 reflecting ground-level O3 pollution impacts, combined with the model of exposure-relative yield relationship (or surface O3-crop models), were used to assess losses of crop production (CPL) and economic cost losses (ECL) caused by rice crop yield reductions. For the M7 metric of ground-level O3 exposure, the average value was 14.746 ppbV, with levels ranging from 13.959 ppbV to 15.502 ppbV, and the affected area was spread across 1309.39 thousand hectares. The AOT40 exposure metric reached an average value of 11.490 ppbV, with a range of 0.000–31.665 ppbV. The highest exposure level was 17.503–31.653 ppbV, covering an area of 747.01 thousand hectares. The total CPL of the three rice crops over the LMD was 9593.52 tonnes (accounting for 0.039% of the total value of rice production in the region), with a total corresponding EPL of 62.405 billion VND (equivalent to 2761.01 thousand USD). The results are considered a baseline study to serve as a basis for extensive assessments for the following years and support for the environmental managers to propose control measures of O3 precursor emissions (NOx and VOCs) from man-made sectors as well as build protective solutions in rice farming in LMD shortly.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is prevalent and has a rapidly increasing antibiotic resistance rate in Vietnam. Reinfection is quite common, and gastric carcinoma remains one of the most common malignancies, which is not uncommon to develop after successful eradication. The purpose of this consensus is to provide updated recommendations on the management of H. pylori infection in the country. The consensus panel consisted of 32 experts from 14 major universities and institutions in Vietnam who were invited to review the evidence and develop the statements using the Delphi method. The process followed the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system. The consensus level was defined as ≥80% for agreement on the proposed statements. Due to the limited availability of high-quality local evidence, this consensus was also based on high-quality evidence from international studies, especially those conducted in other populations in the Asia–Pacific region. The panel finally reached a consensus on 27 statements after two voting rounds, which consisted of four sections (1) indications for testing and selection of diagnostic tests (2), treatment regimens, (3) post-treatment confirmation of H. pylori status, and (4) reinfection prevention methods and follow-up after eradication. Important issues that require further evidence include studies on third-line regimens, strategies to prevent H. pylori reinfection, and post-eradication follow-up for precancerous gastric lesions. We hope this consensus will help guide the current clinical practice in Vietnam and promote multicenter studies in the country and international collaborations.

Access to quality veterinary antimicrobial products contributes to efficient treatment of diseases in Vietnamese livestock and to reducing antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Poor quality antimicrobial drugs can lead to treatment failure, potentially influencing the inappropriate use of antimicrobials products, including increasing the dose, combining drugs, or changing to a broader spectrum antimicrobial. The objective of the study was to determine the actual concentration of antimicrobial active ingredient (AAI) in commercially available veterinary antimicrobial products as an indicator of their quality. A total of 144 veterinary antimicrobial products were purchased from randomly selected veterinary drug stores in 34 districts in eight provinces. For the qualitative analysis, we observed criteria linked to form, colour, and labelling information according to the Department of Animal Health regulations. For the quantitative analysis, high-performance liquid chromatography was used to determine the actual concentration of AAI in each sample. Of the 144 samples, 131 (91%) met the national standard of quality of being within ±10% of the labelled concentration. Ten antimicrobials (6.9%) contained less than half of the labelled content concentrations. Veterinary antimicrobial product quality control is an important part of addressing AMR. To support the national action plan to lower AMR, a veterinary drug quality control program should be implemented at all stages of the supply chain to assure high quality drugs and effective treatment of sick animals.

Vietnam has a great demand for stone exploitation for the development of the country's infrastructure, reaching 181 million m3 in 2020. Mining activities are always accompanied by environmental pollution, negatively affecting public health. To accurately assess the level of pollution, as well as quantify the effect of air pollution on human health, a number of structures, methods, and models provide tools to assess the benefits of this control for public health and related economic values. However, there has been no research in Vietnam applied specifically to this type of stone exploitation. This study offers a model to evaluate the economic damage caused by dust exposure from activities related to quarrying, overcoming the lack of continuous monitoring data. The area selected for research is Binh Duong province, in the Ho Chi Minh megapolis, Vietnam, which has two construction quarries, Thuong Tan and Tan My, with a current annual production of approximately 4–5 million m3. The calculation results show that the damage to human health is estimated at approximately 9,643 billion dong a year, equivalent to 15.03 million USD. In addition, if the standard criteria are tightened, damage will continue to increase. This study also analyses some of the difficulties and limitations in the modelling process.

PM2.5 pollution exposure is the leading cause of disease burden globally, especially in low- and middle-income countries, including Vietnam. Therefore, economic damage in this context must be quantified. Long An province in the Southern Key Economic (SKE) region was selected as a research area. This study aimed to evaluate PM2.5-related human health effects causing early deaths attributable to respiratory, cardiovascular, and circulatory diseases in all ages and genders. Health end-points and health impact estimation, economic loss model, groups of PM2.5 concentration data, data of exposed population, data of baseline premature mortality rate, and data of health impact functions were used. Hourly PM2.5 concentration data sets were generated specifically using the coupled Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF)/Community Multiscale Air Quality Modelling System (CMAQ) models. Daily PM2.5 pollution levels considered mainly in the dry season (from January to April 2018) resulted in 12.9 (95% CI − 0.6; 18.7) all-cause premature deaths per 100,000 population, of which 7.8 (95% CI 1.1; 7.1), 1.5 (95% CI − 0.2; 3.1), and 3.6 (95% CI − 1.5; 8.5) were due to respiratory diseases (RDs; 60.54%), cardiovascular diseases (CVDs; 11.81%), and circulatory system diseases (CSDs; 27.65%) per 100,000 population, respectively. The total economic losses due to acute PM2.5 exposure-related premature mortality cases reached 62.0 (95% CI − 2.7; 89.6) billion VND, equivalent to 8.3 (95% CI − 0.4; 12.0) million USD. Abstract Background Grazing exclusion is a practical approach to restore vegetation in degraded grasslands and enhance soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration. However, the dynamics and drivers of SOC in grasslands after grazing exclusion have not been well documented, especially in ecosystems with cold climates. Methods Here, we established 14 paired treatments (grazing exclusion vs. free-grazing) along a 600-km transect in the northeastern zone of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. After six years, we analyzed vegetation biomass dynamics and measured the soil physicochemical properties and organic C concentration across three depths (0–10, 10–20, and 20–30 cm). Results Grazing exclusion significantly increased above- and belowground biomass (139.85% and 43.30%, respectively), pH (1.38%), total phosphorus (3.29%), nitrate nitrogen (18.03%), and ammonium nitrogen (17.81%), but significantly decreased soil bulk density (2.43%) and clay content (10.49%), particularly in 0–30 cm. Specifically, SOC concentrations positively responded to grazing exclusion (0–10 cm) in 9 of the 14 sites evaluated. The effects of grazing exclusion on SOC concentrations were significantly higher in areas with a mean annual temperature (MAT) below 0 °C compared to those in sites with a high MAT (> 0 °C). The SOC concentrations significantly correlated with the mean annual precipitation (MAP) in both treatments, but these correlations diminished with increasing soil depth. Ridge regression analysis showed that soil chemical properties (e.g., total nitrogen and phosphorus) positively influenced SOC accumulation, while MAT negatively influenced it after grazing exclusion. Path analysis further revealed that MAT indirectly regulated SOC dynamics via soil chemical properties. Conclusions Our study highlights that grazing exclusion results in an asynchronous SOC and plant biomass accumulation and may be more beneficial for SOC sequestration in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau grasslands with lower temperatures. Also, humid climates promote SOC concentration in alpine grasslands. These results could help develop management practices and policies that promote sustainable grassland management.

Abstract Study of the interaction between fault activation and mining stress evolution in the longwall working face is helpful to provide a targeted area for fault type heavy mine pressure disaster control. Combining theoretical analysis, physical and numerical simulation, the mechanical mechanism of fault activation is analyzed, the interaction law between mining stress and fault activation is studied, and the influence of fault dip angle on the evolution of fault activation and mining stress is discussed. The minimum critical dip angles α of normal and reverse fault activation are π/4 + φ/2 and π/4-φ/2, respectively. During the mining process, the activation position of the fault surface, the peak values of stress and displacement gradually increase and transfer from the high position of the fault to the low position, and the peak value of the advance abutment pressure reaches the maximum at the fault. The advancing distance of the working face required for fault activation gradually decreases with the decrease of the fault dip angle, and the peak elevation area of the working face gradually increases with the decrease of the fault dip angle. Combined with the on-site microseismic monitoring results, it can be seen that when the working face is about 20 m away from the fault, the stress and energy increase sharply, which is the main control area of the impact disaster.

Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is changing and expanding quickly, leading to environmental consequences that seriously threaten human health. PM2.5 pollution is one of the main causes of premature death. In this context, studies have evaluated strategies to control and reduce air pollution; such pollution-control measures need to be economically justified. The objective of this study was to assess the socio-economic damage caused by exposure to the current pollution scenario, taking 2019 as the base year. A methodology for calculating and evaluating the economic and environmental benefits of air pollution reduction was implemented. This study aimed to simultaneously evaluate the impacts of both short-term (acute) and long-term (chronic) PM2.5 pollution exposure on human health, providing a comprehensive overview of economic losses attributable to such pollution. Spatial partitioning (inner-city and suburban) on health risks of PM2.5 and detailed construction of health impact maps by age group and sex on a spatial resolution grid (3.0 km × 3.0 km) was performed. The calculation results show that the economic loss from premature deaths due to short-term exposure (approximately 38.86 trillion VND) is higher than that from long-term exposure (approximately 14.89 trillion VND). As the government of HCMC has been developing control and mitigation solutions for the Air Quality Action Plan towards short- and medium-term goals in 2030, focusing mainly on PM2.5, the results of this study will help policymakers develop a roadmap to reduce the impact of PM2.5 during 2025–2030. Abstract Traditional vehicular edge computing research usually ignores the mobility of vehicles, the dynamic variability of the vehicular edge environment, the large amount of real‐time data required for vehicular edge computing, the limited resources of edge servers, and collaboration issues. In response to these challenges, this article proposes a vehicular edge computing optimization scheme based on the Lyapunov function and Deep Reinforcement Learning. In this solution, this article uses Digital Twin technology (DT) to simulate the vehicular edge environment. The edge server DT is used to simulate the vehicular edge environment under the edge server, and the base station DT is used to simulate the entire vehicular edge system environment. Based on the real‐time data obtained from DT simulation, this paper defines the Lyapunov function to simplify the migration cost of vehicle tasks between servers into a multi‐objective dynamic optimization problem. It solves the problem by applying the Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (TD3) algorithm. Experimental results show that compared with other algorithms, this scheme can effectively optimize the allocation and collaboration of vehicular edge computing resources and reduce the delay and energy consumption caused by vehicle task processing.

Abstract The geological phenomenon of igneous rock invading coal seam is widely distributed, which induces mining risk and affects efficient mining. The pre-splitting blasting method of igneous rock is feasible but difficult to implement accurately, resulting in unnecessary safety and environmental pollution risks. In this paper, the blasting model with penetrating structural plane and the multi-hole blasting model with different hole spacing were established based on the Riedel–Hiermaier–Thoma (RHT) damage constitutive to explore the stress wave propagation law under detonation. The damage cloud diagram and damage degree algorithm were used to quantitatively describe the spatio-temporal evolution of blasting damage. The results show that the explosion stress wave presents a significant reflection stretching effect under the action of the structural plane, which can effectively aggravate the presplitting blasting degree of the rock mass inside the structural plane. The damage range of rock mass is synchronously evolved with the change of blasting hole spacing. The blasting in the igneous rock intrusion area of the 21,914 working face is taken as an application example, and the damage degree of rock mass is reasonably evaluated by the box-counting dimension and K-means clustering method, which proves the effectiveness of the blasting scheme and provides reference value for the implementation of related blasting projects.

PM2.5 exposure data are important for air quality management. Optimal planning and determination of locations where PM2.5 is continuously monitored are important for urban areas in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), a megacity with specific environmental problems. Objectives of the study to propose an automatic monitoring system network (AMSN) to measure outdoor PM2.5 concentrations in HCMC using low-cost sensors. Data related to the current monitoring network, population, population density, threshold reference standards set by the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), and inventory emissions from various sources, both anthropogenic and biogenic, were obtained. Coupled WRF/CMAQ models were used to simulate PM2.5 concentrations in HCMC. The simulation results were extracted from the grid cells, from which the values of points exceeding the set thresholds were determined. The population coefficient was calculated to determine the corresponding total score (TS). Optimisation of the monitoring locations was statistically performed using Student's t-test to select the official locations for the monitoring network. TS values ranged from 0.0031 to 3215.9. The TSmin value was reached in the Can Gio district and the TSmax value was reached in SG1. Based on the t-test results, 26 initial locations were proposed for a preliminary configuration, from which 10 optimal monitoring sites were selected to develop the AMSN of outdoor PM2.5 concentration measurements in HCMC towards 2025. Summary: cGAS-like receptor (cGLR)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) recently emerged as an important pathway controlling viral infections in invertebrates. However, its exact contribution at the organismal level remains uncharacterized. Here, we use STING::GFP knockin reporter Drosophila flies to document activation of the pathway in vivo. Four tissues strongly respond to injection of the cyclic dinucleotide 3′2′- cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate (cGAMP): the central nervous system, midgut, Malpighian tubules, and genital ducts. The pattern of STING::GFP induction in flies injected with 3′2′-cGAMP or infected by two viruses with different tropism suggests that the reporter is induced by a systemic signal produced in virus-infected cells. Accordingly, ectopic expression of cGLR2 in the fat body induces STING signaling in remote tissues and a cGLR1/2-dependent activity is transferred to females during mating. Furthermore, viral infection can alter sleep in a cGLR1/2- and STING-dependent manner. Altogether, our results reveal a contribution of cyclic dinucleotide signaling to a systemic host response to viral infection in Drosophila.

Cities constitute a critical component of the “dual carbon” strategy, highlighting the importance of examining the carbon emission trends within various city categories to formulate a low-carbon development path. In this paper, 21 cities (prefectures) in Sichuan province were divided into 4 categories (service-based cities, resource-based cities, industry-based cities, and other cities) through K-means clustering, and the differences in driving factors of carbon emissions in different types of cities were explored. At the same time, baseline scenarios, technological innovation scenarios, controlled development scenarios, and mandatory emission reduction scenarios were set up to dynamically simulate the evolution path of urban carbon emissions in the next 30 years from the bottom-up. The results show that: (1) Input scale is the main driving factor for carbon emission growth in Sichuan province, while input carbon intensity is the leading factor for carbon emission reduction. Environmental input and population scale have opposite effects on carbon emission of different urban types. (2) Resource-based cities face challenges in completing the phased goal of “carbon peaking” under both baseline scenarios and controlled development scenarios. These cities have gradually become the predominant city type of emission source in Sichuan province, surpassing service-based cities. (3) Except for the normal scenario, Sichuan province can achieve the target of “carbon peaking” in other scenarios, and is expected to achieve the target of 90 % greenhouse gas reduction by 2050. (4) Among the 81 development paths derived from the urban scenario combinations, the path labeled M−B−C−M exhibits the lowest economic-ecological comprehensive impact coefficient. The bottom-up carbon emission scenario analysis framework established in this paper offers a novel perspective for the study of “carbon peaking” and can provide theoretical support for policymakers in devising regional low-carbon development strategies.

Abstract Background The association between vitamin D supplementation and the risk of falls in older adults has been controversial. This systematic review and network meta-analysis aims to assess the efficacy of vitamin D, calcium, and combined supplementation in the prevention of falls. Methods Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the efficacy of vitamin D in fall prevention were systematically searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from inception to May 9, 2023. The network meta-analysis was performed using a random effects model in R4.1.3 and Stata15.0. Heterogeneity was evaluated by the I 2 statistic, and publication bias was assessed using funnel plots, Begg’s test, and Egger’s tests. Data were pooled and expressed as relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Results A total of 35 RCTs involving 58,937 participants were included in this study, among which 11 RCTs (31.4%) applied calcium combined with vitamin D. There was low heterogeneity (I 2 = 11%) among the included studies. Vitamin D supplementation at 800–1000 International Unit (IU)/d resulted in a lower risk of falls than placebo or no treatment (RR = 0.85, 95%CI: 0.74–0.95). In addition, 800–1000 IU/d of vitamin D with or without calcium were more effective in preventing falls than calcium alone. High-dose vitamin D (> 1000 IU/day) increased the risk of falls compared with 800–1000 IU/d of vitamin D. According to the subgroup analysis, daily administration of 800–1000 IU/d vitamin D was associated with a 22% reduction in the risk of falls (RR = 0.78, 95%CI:0.64–0.92), whereas intermittent vitamin D administration had no preventive effect. Furthermore, 800–1000 IU/d of vitamin D also significantly decreased the risk of falls in old adults with ≤ 50 nmol/L 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] (RR = 0.69, 95%CI:0.52–0.86) but not in individuals with > 50 nmol/L 25(OH)D. Conclusion Vitamin D supplementation at 800–1000 IU/d is associated with a lower risk of falls among older adults. 800-1000IU/d of vitamin D has a benefit on prevention of falls in population received daily dose regimens and in population with vitamin D deficiency.

Pollution-related air quality deterioration has affected public health in many large cities worldwide, including Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) in Vietnam. The health effects in this area attributed to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) account for 81.31% of all major air pollutant-related deaths. Over the past two decades, epidemiological studies have demonstrated that both short- and long-term PM2.5 pollution exposures are associated with increased mortality and morbidity. However, research on the economic damages caused by this type of pollution is lacking. The goal of this study was to assess PM2.5-related human health impacts and the corresponding economic damage in HCMC. The modelling approach applied in this study, including the coupled Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF)/Community Multiscale Air Quality Modelling System (CMAQ) models, for estimating PM2.5 distribution was combined with the models of short-term human health impacts and economic valuation quantification. Results indicated the short-term effects of health endpoints caused by PM2.5, including 174 (95% CI: 16; 340) premature deaths, 117,632 (95% CI: 231, 850; 368,926) hospital admission cases and 162,455 (95% CI: − 710.465; 531,153) emergency visits. The total economic losses have been estimated to exceed 3 trillion VND (equivalent to approximately 410 million USD), accounting for approximately 0.25% of the total gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of HCMC in 2018. Therefore, the results of this study provide compelling and up-to-date evidence for HCMC's policymakers to propose PM2.5 pollution control measures and develop a clean air action plan with Vision 2025 to reduce adverse impacts on public health and obtain economic benefits. Drought may be more frequent in foreseen decades that will threat non-wood forest products (NWFP) in temperate forests. Plants cope with drought by increasing root foraging ability, which may be also impacted by exposure to light spectra (components of wavelengths in three colours of monochronic lights). In this study, three hybrid light spectra were provided by light-emitting diode (LED) in red (wavelength: 13.6% blue, 60.0% green, 26.4% red), green (2.9% blue, 84.6% green, 2.5% red), and blue (5.4% blue, 77.8% green, 16.9% red) lights for culturing potted Aralia elata seedlings in homogeneous (67.5 mg nitrogen [N] to both halves of pot) and heterogeneous (135 mg N to left half of pot) under drought and well-watered conditions. The red light spectrum was the unique illumination environment where height growth was promoted under well-watered condition and root biomass in fertilized patch was enhanced under drought. Compared to blue light spectrum, red light spectrum increased root foraging scale and precision and placement ratio. Red light spectrum also promoted aboveground biomass, but reduced root collar diameter. No interaction was detected between any pairs of factors among drought, light, and soil nutrient pattern. The heterogeneous pattern increased root to shoot biomass ratio with decreased shoot biomass and increased root foraging sensitivity and precision and fine root placement ratio. Drought enlarged the overall foraging scale with no effects on foraging sensitivity or precision. Overall, exposure to red light spectrum had the potential to promote fine root foraging behaviour under drought, but more trails deserve being tested in the future on a wider range of wavelengths.

BackgroundHeart failure (HF) is a complex disorder that has an association with increased morbidity and mortality rates globally. The association of statin use with mortality rate in individuals with HF remains unclear.ObjectivesTo examine the association of statin use with the short-term and long-term all-cause mortality rate in critically ill individuals with HF.MethodsWe performed a retrospective cohort analysis based on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database. The critically ill people with HF were assigned to a statin group and a non-statin group according to whether they had been treated with statin or not during hospitalization. The Kaplan−Meier (KM) method and Cox proportional hazard models were adopted to explore the link between statin administration and the 30-day, 90-day, as well as 1-year mortality rates. To ensure the robustness of the findings, a 1:1 nearest propensity-score matching (PSM) was also performed.ResultsThe current research included 11,381 patients for the final analysis, with 7,561 in the statin group and 3,820 in the non-statin group. After multiple confounders were adjusted, we found that the Cox regression models revealed great beneficial effects of statin therapy on the 30-day, 90-day, as well as 1-year mortality rates among critically ill individuals with HF in the fully adjusted model. PSM also achieved consistent results. After PSM, the risk of mortality reduced by 23% for the 30-day mortality (HR = 0.77, 95%CI: 0.68–0.88, p < 0.001), 16% for the 90-day mortality rate (HR = 0.84, 95%CI: 0.75–0.93, p < 0.001), and 12% for the 1-year mortality rate (HR = 0.88, 95%CI: 0.81–0.97, p = 0.007). Patients treated with rosuvastatin had the greatest reduction in mortality rate. The 30-day, 90-day, and 1-year all-cause mortality rates were remarkably lower in patients who were treated with low-dose statins.ConclusionOur study unveiled that statin use was related to decreased short-term and long-term all-cause mortality rates in critically ill individuals with HF. Rosuvastatin was associated with the greatest reduction of all-cause mortality rates. Low-dose statins can significantly reduce short-term and long-term mortality, while high-dose statins are not significantly correlated with mortality. However, the results are not conclusive and should be interpreted with caution.

The aim of this paper is to explore hydrothermal transport in surrounding rocks during deep mining, focusing on the mechanisms and key factors influencing groundwater seepage and heat accumulation disasters. Stress–seepage coupling tests were conducted on fractured rock mass with varying roughness under constant-pressure loading/unloading conditions. Also, a permeability model considering joint roughness coefficient and confining pressure was established. The study further examined the evolution of heat transfer in rough fractured rock mass and variations in convective heat transfer characteristics. The heat transfer process was observed to progress through stages of surge, attenuation, and stabilization. Two calculation models were developed using multivariate linear regression and random forest regression to quantify how different factors influenced water–rock convective heat transfer in mining-induced fractured rock mass. The average correlation coefficient R2 of the proposed models exceeded 0.95. The importance scores of osmotic pressure, inlet water temperature, rock temperature, and permeability were 0.417, 0.296, 0.223, and 0.065, respectively. The flow rate and water–rock temperature difference were determined to be the key factors influencing hydrothermal transport. This study enhanced the understanding of the hydrothermal migration mechanisms in surrounding rocks during mining and provided insights into geothermal water control.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the analgesic effect of a flurbiprofen ester injection via continuous intravenous drip during transvaginal 4-dimensional hysterosalpingography (TVS 4D-HyCoSy). Methods: Two hundred thirty patients who underwent TVS 4D-HyCoSy for infertility from May 2018 to August 2021 at our hospital were selected. The participants were grouped based on tubal patency, flurbiprofen ester use, and uterine cannula diameter, as follows: bilateral tubal patency group; non-bilateral tubal patency group; atropine group; atropine + flurbiprofen ester group; coarse tube group; and fine tube group. The analgesic effect during TVS 4D-HyCoSy and pain relief were compared between groups using visual analog scoring (NRS). Additionally, the incidence of adverse effects was recorded and factors related to the influence of pain were analyzed. Results: 1. Tubal patency reduced pain during ultrasound tubal examination, flurbiprofenate provided significant analgesia after ultrasound tubalography and reduced adverse effects (P < 0.001). 2. The tube diameter thickness had no effect on tubal ultrasonography procedure-related pain. 3. Multivariable analysis of pain relief during imaging suggested that the use of flurbiprofen for bilateral tubal patency had a significant positive effect on pain relief within 30 min after the examination with an AUC of 0.732 (95% CI: 0.665–0.798). Conclusion: A flurbiprofen ester continuous intravenous drip had a good analgesic effect in patients with TVS 4D-HyCoSy. Specifically, the pain relief effect after examination was significant and reduced the incidence of adverse reactions during the contrast examination. Flurbiprofen ester can be administered independently and is worthy of clinical promotion and application.

Abstract Objective Our study aimed to develop a day anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) procedure to treat degenerative cervical spondylosis (DCS). The goal was to analyze its clinical implications, safety, and early effects to provide a better surgical option for eligible DCS patients. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed to identify DCS patients who underwent day ACDF from September 2022 to August 2023. The operative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage, preoperative and postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) scores, neck disability index (NDI) scores, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores, JOA recovery rate (RR), incidence of dysphagia-related symptoms, 30-day hospital readmission rate, and incidence of other complications were recorded to evaluate early clinical outcomes. Radiography was performed to assess the location of the implants, neurological decompression, and cervical physiological curvature. Results All 33 patients (23 women and 10 men) underwent successful surgery and experienced significant symptomatic and neurological improvements. Among them, 26 patients underwent one-segment ACDF, 5 underwent two-segment ACDF, and 2 underwent three-segment ACDF. The average operative time was 71.1 ± 20.2 min, intraoperative blood loss was 19.1 ± 6.2 mL, and postoperative drainage was 9.6 ± 5.8 mL. The preoperative VAS and NDI scores improved postoperatively (7.1 ± 1.2 vs. 3.1 ± 1.3 and 66.7% ± 4.8% vs. 24.1% ± 2.5%, respectively), with a significant difference (P

The output fluctuation of the high proportion of photovoltaic new energy requires introducing energy storage units for compensation and adjustment, but the voltage stability performance of energy storage port converters under complex working conditions is often not effectively guaranteed. Therefore, this paper proposes an active disturbance rejection voltage stabilization strategy considering observation state correction for energy storage port converters. By deriving the high-precision paradigm of observation deviation, the important structural factors of observation deviation in the system are pointed out, and the ignored high-order terms of deviation are compensated into the observer to achieve accurate and rapid convergence of tracking deviation. Furthermore, through the theoretical analysis of the strategy in four dimensions of stability performance, tracking performance, anti-disturbance performance, and robust performance, the reasons why the strategy can effectively improve the anti-disturbance and robustness of the converter are explained. Finally, the simulation and experimental results jointly demonstrate that the strategy performs better anti-disturbance and robust-ness performance than traditional active disturbance rejection control under various complex working conditions of microgrids, which is of great significance for improving the stability of microgrid operation.

In this work, a novel microstructure-informed machine learning (MIML) framework is proposed for the longitudinal ultimate tensile strength (UTS) evaluation and the construction of microstructure-property linkages of titanium matrix composites (TMCs). The main components of the MIML framework include (i) high-fidelity simulation and dataset generation using finite element method (FEM), (ii) the quantitative characterization of microstructures obtained by 2-point cross-correlation analysis and principal component analysis, (iii) the extraction of structure-property linkages based on support vector regression model and (iv) the validation of MIML by experimental data. The fiber breakage observed by advanced microstructure characterization is considered as the dominant failure mode during mechanical tests of TMCs, which is embedded in the FEM simulations. The MIML approach reaches capable accuracy in UTS prediction of TMCs using FEM-generated datasets and trained MIML is validated by experimental data. In addition, the permutation importance-based method is utilized to accurately identify the key feature parameters related to UTS. The first two principal components of microstructural reduced-order representation are recognized as highly relevant features for UTS. The well-trained MIML model is a promising tool in the evaluation of the mechanical property, and further provides a technical chain for the establishment of microstructure-property linkages of multi-phase composites.

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the ultrasound and MRI features of eight patients with cervical large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma to improve awareness of this disease among sonographers, radiologists, and clinicians. Methods: Clinical data for eight patients with cervical large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma confirmed by pathology at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between February 2018 and April 2021 were retrospectively analyzed according to clinical, conventional ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and MRI characteristics. Results: Conventional ultrasound examination of the cervical large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma lesions in the eight patients revealed two features: (1) irregular hypoechoic areas in the muscular layer, with slightly hyperechoic inlay streaks, and poorly delineated lesions, and (2) slightly abundant blood flow distribution in the lesions. The contrast-enhanced ultrasound showed a “fast-in and fast-out” mode; after subsidence, a “fence-like” change was observed, and the enhancement range was significantly greater than the range of two-dimensional ultrasound. In MRI, T1WI showed a low signal or isosignal; T2WI showed a high signal; DWI showed a high signal and low ADC value; and most of the enhanced MRI showed inhomogeneous hyperenhancement. Conclusion: Conventional ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound and MRI are complementary methods that provide additional imaging information for the diagnosis of cervical large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Most of the existing virtual scenarios built for the digital protection of Chinese classical private gardens are too modern in expression style to show the aesthetic significance of their historical period. Considering the aesthetic commonality between traditional Chinese landscape paintings and classical private gardens and referring to image style transfer, here, a deep neural network was proposed to transfer the aesthetic style from landscape paintings to the virtual scenario of classical private gardens. The network consisted of two parts: style prediction and style transfer. The style prediction network was used to obtain style representation from style paintings, and the style transfer network was used to transfer style representation to the content scenario. The pre-trained network was then embedded into the scenario rendering pipeline and combined with the screen post-processing method to realise the stylised expression of the virtual scenario. To verify the feasibility of this methodology, a virtual scenario of the Humble Administrator’s Garden was used as the content scenario and five garden landscape paintings from different time periods and painting styles were selected for the case study. The results demonstrated that this methodology could effectively achieve the aesthetic style transfer of a virtual scenario.

This study employs the microshear test method to examine the local mechanical properties of narrow-gap welded joints, revealing the mechanical inhomogeneity by evaluating the microshear strength, stress‒strain curves, and failure strain. On this basis, the influence of weld joints micromechanical inhomogeneity on the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) fracture toughness is investigated. From the root weld layer to the cover weld layer, the fracture toughness at the center of the weld seam demonstrates an increasing trend, with the experimental and calculated CTOD values showing a good correspondence. The microproperties of the welded joints significantly impact the load-bearing capacity and fracture toughness. During the deformation process of the “low-matching” microregions, the plastic zone expansion is hindered by the surrounding microregion strength constraints, thus reducing the fracture toughness. In contrast, during the deformation of the “high-matching” microregions, the surrounding microregions absorb some of the loading energy, partially releasing the concentrated stress at the crack tip, which in turn increases the fracture toughness.
