International audience; The International Large Detector, ILD, is a detector concept which has been developed for the electron-positron collider ILC. The detector has been optimized for precision physics in a range of energies between 90 GeV and 1 TeV. ILD features a high precision, large volume combined silicon and gaseous tracking system, together with a high granularity calorimeter, all inside a 3.5 T solenoidal magnetic field. The paradigm of particle flow has been the guiding principle of the design of ILD. In this document the required performance of the detector, the proposed implementation and the readiness of the different technologies needed for the implementation are discussed. This is done in the framework of the ILC collider proposal, now under consideration in Japan, and includes site specific aspects needed to build and operate the detector at the proposed ILC site in Japan.

Current $\gamma$-ray telescopes suffer from a gap in sensitivity in the energy range between 100keV and 100MeV, and no polarisation measurement has ever been done on cosmic sources above 1MeV. Past and present e$^+$e$^-$ pair telescopes are limited at lower energies by the multiple scattering of electrons in passive tungsten converter plates. This results in low angular resolution, and, consequently, a drop in sensitivity to point sources below 1GeV. The polarisation information, which is carried by the azimuthal angle of the conversion plane, is lost for the same reasons. HARPO (Hermetic ARgon POlarimeter) is an R\&D program to characterise the operation of a gaseous detector (a Time Projection Chamber or TPC) as a high angular-resolution and sensitivity telescope and polarimeter for $\gamma$ rays from cosmic sources. It represents a first step towards a future space instrument in the MeV-GeV range. We built and characterised a 30cm cubic demonstrator [SPIE 91441M], and put it in a polarised $\gamma$-ray beam at the NewSUBARU accelerator in Japan. Data were taken at photon energies from 1.74MeV to 74MeV, and with different polarisation configurations. We describe the experimental setup in beam. We then describe the software we developed to reconstruct the photon conversion events, with special focus on low energies. We also describe the thorough simulation of the detector used to compare results. Finally we will present the performance of the detector as extracted from this analysis and preliminary measurements of the polarisation asymmetry. This beam-test qualification of a gas TPC prototype in a $\gamma$-ray beam could open the way to high-performance $\gamma$-ray astronomy and polarimetry in the MeV-GeV energy range in the near future., Comment: SPIE Astronomical telescopes and instrumentation conference 2016

The ILD detector is proposed for an electron-positron collider with collision centre-of-mass energies from 90~\GeV~to about 1~\TeV. It has been developed over the last 10 years by an international team of scientists with the goal to design and eventually propose a fully integrated detector, primarily for the International Linear Collider, ILC. In this report the fundamental ideas and concepts behind the ILD detector are discussed and the technologies needed for the realisation of the detector are reviewed. The document starts with a short review of the science goals of the ILC, and how the goals can be achieved today with the detector technologies at hand. After a discussion of the ILC and the environment in which the experiment will take place, the detector is described in more detail, including the status of the development of the technologies foreseen for each subdetector. The integration of the different sub-systems into an integrated detector is discussed, as is the interface between the detector and the collider. This is followed by a concise summary of the benchmarking which has been performed in order to find an optimal balance between performance and cost. To the end the costing methodology used by ILD is presented, and an updated cost estimate for the detector is presented. The report closes with a summary of the current status and of planned future actions.

15th Vienna Conference on Instrumentation, VCI2019, Vienna, Austria, 18 Feb 2019 - 22 Feb 2019; Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research / A 958, 162732 (2020). doi:10.1016/j.nima.2019.162732, The “long slab” is a new prototype for the SiW-Ecal, a silicon tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter for the International Large Detector (ILD) at the future International Linear Collider (ILC). The new prototype has been evaluated with cosmics, radioactive sources and with 3 GeV electrons in beam tests at the DESY facility, Hamburg. A channel-wise calibration has been achieved, at different angles of incidence of the beam on the sensors. Using data collected at non-normal incidence, the signal of particles traversing adjacent pixels were used to estimate the absolute value of the trigger threshold in units of mips. This new prototype provides us many hints on how to improve the design of the front-end electronics. It is also a convenient tool to estimate the critical characteristics of ILD SiW-Ecal (like power consumption, cooling, readout time, etc.) and to optimise the future design of the detector., Published by North-Holland Publ.
