AbstractVirtual reality (VR) interventions have become a promising therapeutic modality to improve the prevalent mental health problems among college students. Despite the growing evidence, a comprehensive meta-analysis is absent. To evaluate the effectiveness of VR interventions on anxiety, stress, and negative emotions in college students, a meta-analysis was conducted. Sixteen randomized controlled trials published between 2014 and 2023 with 46 records and 1022 participants were analyzed. Significant VR intervention effects on anxiety (Hedge’s g = 0.492, p < 0.001), stress (Hedge’s g = 0.344, p = 0.028), and negative emotions (Hedge’s g = 0.461, p = 0.001) among college students were found. The meta-regression analysis revealed that the number of sessions, intervention type, and mean age significantly moderated the effect size. This study offered initial empirical evidence of VR interventions’ effectiveness in reducing anxiety, stress, and negative emotions in college students. (1) Objective: to investigate the effectiveness of telephysiotherapy compared with traditional rehabilitation for elderly patients and determine the factors impacting its efficacy. (2) Method: Five online databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane) were reviewed up to 31 July 2023. The search included the literature in English from 2014 to 2023, to capture the latest practices in telephysiotherapy for elderly patients. Data from all qualified studies were independently extracted by two authors, quantifying effect size to reflect treatment performance. (3) Results: 222 records from 19 articles were analyzed. The effect size for telephysiotherapy was 0.350 (95% C.I. = 0.283–0.416; p < 0.01). The standardized mean differences for physical and psychological outcomes were 0.406 (95% C.I. = 0.325–0.488; p < 0.01) and 0.223 (95% C.I. = 0.110–0.336; p < 0.01), respectively. (4) Conclusions: Telephysiotherapy was more effective than traditional rehabilitation, significantly improving the physical and psychological status of elderly patients. AbstractHighly automated vehicles (level 4) will be launched soon. This study explored factors affecting the acceptance of level 4 automated vehicles (AV) amongst the public. The technology acceptance model (TAM), technology anxiety (TA), social influence (SI), facilitating condition (FC) and trust (TR) were integrated to develop a level 4 AV acceptance model. A web-based questionnaire was used for data collection from 693 Chinese participants. Structural equation modelling was utilized to analyze the collected data. The results showed that TAM is applicable to explain level 4 AV acceptance amongst the public. The effects of FC on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness (PU) are positive. TA negatively influences PU. SI positively influences PU and behavioural intention to use AVs. TR positively influences attitude towards using AVs and is positively determined by PU. COVID-19 vaccination is an effective method for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This study proposed and validated a theoretical intention model for explaining the COVID-19 vaccination intention (CVI) of the public. The theoretical intention model incorporated trust in vaccines, two types of risk perception (risk perception of COVID-19 and risk perception of COVID-19 vaccination), and perceived benefit into a theory of planned behavior (TPB). Structural equation modeling was utilized to test the theoretical intention model with data collected from 816 Chinese adults in China. The results confirmed the crucial role of trust in vaccines, risk perception, and perceived benefit in shaping the CVI of the public. In addition, TPB was found to be applicable in a research context. The theoretical intention model accounted for 78.8% of the variance in CVI. Telecare has the potential to tackle emerging problems in public healthcare resulting from the graying of population. This study aims to investigate the personal, social and regulatory factors associated with the telecare acceptance for older adults in Hong Kong. A structured questionnaire survey was administered to 110 seniors aged 60–80 years. The results revealed that older people prefer to use the products that they are familiar with. Seniors of very poor economic status are likely to use telecare service. Family and friends support, self-satisfaction, and social relationship are critical factors which positively influence telecare usage of older adults via influencing their perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Regulatory factor of perceived incentives positively associates with the attitude of older people toward telecare service, and in turn facilitates telecare usage. Cogeneration systems—also known as combined heat and power systems—form a promising technology for the simultaneous generation of power and thermal energy while consuming a single source of fuel at a site. A number of prior studies have examined the cogeneration systems used in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. However, a systematic review of the economic and environmental evaluations of the system is not found in the literature. The present study aims to address this research gap by reviewing the most relevant studies on the cogeneration systems applied to buildings in different contexts (e.g., residential, commercial, and industrial) and provides systematic evaluation approaches from economic and environmental perspectives. Results show that the cogeneration system can significantly reduce energy consumption, operating costs, carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, and positive performance on other relevant parameters. The present study provides extensive evidence to show that the cogeneration system is simultaneously economically profitable and environmentally friendly in various application contexts. To achieve the maximum benefits from cogeneration systems, several practical suggestions are provided for their successful installation and implementation in real-life situations. The benefits of traveling for older adults are extensively supported in the literature. Online mapping technology (OMT) is one of the most widely used applications by people during traveling. This study aimed to obtain insight into the acceptance of OMT among older adults. Additionally, an OMT acceptance model for older adults was developed in this study by integrating facilitating condition (FC), compatibility (COM), and self-satisfaction (SS) into the technology acceptance model (TAM). In this study, structural equation modeling was applied to the test of the OMT acceptance model. This study adopted a cross-sectional structured questionnaire survey for collecting quantitative data from older adults in China. Four hundred and sixteen Chinese older adults were involved in this survey. This study found that TAM was useful to explain the OMT acceptance among older adults. Additionally, FC was confirmed to be a positive factor in determining the perceived ease of use, while COM and SS were found to positively influence perceived usefulness. The results of this study are helpful for OMT developers to design OMT and adopt measures to enhance the use of OMT among older adults, thereby increasing their travel frequency. The use of cogeneration systems in the hotel industry leads to economic and environmental benefits, but its acceptance in the industry remains low. Hence, this study aimed to examine the factors that influence cogeneration system acceptance amongst hotel management. A cogeneration system acceptance model (CoSAM) was proposed by integrating the technology acceptance model with perceived cost, perceived benefit, risk perception, environmental awareness and facilitating conditions. The validity of the CoSAM was investigated using structural equation modelling based on 499 data points collected from hotel management personnel. Results showed that the intention to use the systems of hotel management personnel was positively determined by attitude towards using cogeneration systems, which was directly affected by perceived usefulness, risk perception and perceived benefit. Moreover, with perceived usefulness as a mediator, facilitating conditions and environmental awareness indirectly influenced attitude towards using cogeneration systems positively, while perceived cost indirectly influenced the attitude negatively. Based on the findings of this study, policy implications for promoting the adoption of cogeneration systems in the hotel industry were provided, thus saving energy and reducing the energy costs of hotels. A discrete four-choice response task with auditory signal presentation and a joystick-controlled visual tracking task was used to investigate how spatial compatibility influences the dual-task performance of different display-control settings. It was found that the more incompatible the stimulus-response mapping, the longer the delay for both tasks, presumably because of the longer stimulus encoding time required for the incompatible conditions. A comparison of the findings of this study with those of past experiments on visual visual setting shows that the dual-task performance in a cross-modality (auditory visual) setting was significantly better than that in an intra-modality (visual visual) setting because of visual scanning required in the intra-modal dual tasks. However, when the locations of visual visual tasks were close enough such that ambient and focal vision was concurrently used for information processing, the dual-task performance of intra-modality (visual visual) configuration was slightly better than that of the cross-modality (auditory visual) configuration. Practitioner Summary: The effect of spatial compatibility with auditory signal presentation in multiple display-control configurations was examined in a dual-task paradigm. The results provided important and useful ergonomics design implications and consequent recommendations for intra- and cross- modal interface design. Image magnification often results in disorientation through loss of orientation and location during inspection. This study investigated the effects of three different magnification modes viz. full screen, circular, and fixed-area on visual inspection performance. Also, to improve participants’ global orientation with respect to the original product, location cues in the form of halftone landmarks were introduced as a job aid and their effectiveness on inspection performance was examined. Twenty-eight undergraduates participated in the experiment. Significant magnification mode effect was found, but the location cue effect was found non-significant. The results suggested that the presentation of content/contextual information on one single screen should be considered together with the nature of the visual task and participants’ search behaviors, and that the aid of location cues might be useful when the visual task demanded a high level of search memory and/or an unsystematic search strategy was employed by inspectors. AbstractLevel 2 automated vehicles (AVs) have been commercially available for years, yet the extent to which drivers are cognizant of their capabilities and limitations remains largely unknown. This study aimed to assess the public’s mental model of Level 2 AVs and investigate the relationships between mental model, trust, and reliance. Moreover, it sought to explore driver heterogeneity through cluster analysis to identify typical driver classes. Employing Tesla Autopilot as a representative Level 2 automation system, we designed a questionnaire measuring mental model from three dimensions: functional condition, sensorimotor preparation, and automation monitoring. This questionnaire was administered to both Tesla Autopilot owners (N = 357) and non-owners (N = 357). The results showed that, on average, drivers possessed an inadequate mental model regarding Level 2 AVs, and those with a relatively better mental model exhibited lower levels of trust and reliance. Owning a Level 2 AV did not result in a better understanding of the system, but it led to a higher trust level. Moreover, the results suggested that drivers’ trust and reliance in AVs tended to increase within the initial 6 months of usage and then kept stabilized after that. Through cluster analysis, we identified three distinct driver classes that exhibited significant differences in their mental model levels and attitudes towards AVs: Class 1 (blurred positive), Class 2 (sober neutral), and Class 3 (cautiously positive). This further validates the presence of heterogeneity among drivers. The insights gained from this study can serve as a valuable resource for supporting and guiding the development and implementation of training programs aimed at enhancing drivers’ comprehension of Level 2 AVs. Truck-related accidents account for a substantial portion of traffic accidents. Risky driving behavior is a main cause of traffic accidents. Understanding the risky driving behavior of truck drivers is therefore important in reducing truck-related accidents. This study aimed to propose and validate a research model that integrated a theory of planned behavior, sensation seeking, and risk perception to explain the risky driving behavior of truck drivers. A total of 471 valid data were collected from Chinese truck drivers in this study. Structural equation modeling and mediation analysis were used to examine the influence of factors in the research model on the risky driving behavior of truck drivers. Results showed that sensation seeking and risk perception of truck drivers were influential in shaping their intention to drive riskily with the mediation of attitude toward risky driving. Risk perception and attitude toward risky driving also had a negative influence and positive influence on the intention, respectively. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) have been a concern among healthcare workers, impacting their well-being and patient safety. Exoskeleton technologies have gained a growing interest as an ergonomic intervention for WMSDs. This scoping review explores exoskeleton effects on WMSDs among healthcare workers. A comprehensive search identified 9 eligible studies published in English between 2013 and 2023. Exoskeletons showed promising effects on objective measures, selectively reducing muscle activation in a task-dependent manner. They also improved force exertion and body posture parameters in specific scenarios. Subjectively, exoskeletons reduced discomfort, pain, fatigue, and received positive perceptions with acceptable usability. However, the impact on perceived exertion varied with tasks. While exoskeletons have shown potential in enhancing healthcare workers' well-being and performance, more work is required to refine their effectiveness and maximise benefits in different healthcare settings. The study revealed the need for standardised methodologies, consideration of participant characteristics, and optimisation of exoskeleton design.

Shoulder pain is common among elite swimmers due to the tremendous stress over shoulders during swimming. Supraspinatus muscle is one of the major prime movers and stabilizers of shoulder and is highly susceptible to overloading and tendinopathy. An understanding of the relationship between supraspinatus tendon and pain; and between supraspinatus tendon and strength would assist health care practitioners for developing training regime. The objectives of this study are to evaluate 1) the association between structural abnormality of supraspinatus tendon and shoulder pain and 2) the association between structural abnormality of supraspinatus tendon and shoulder strength. We hypothesized that structural abnormality of supraspinatus tendons positively associated with shoulder pain and negatively associated with shoulder muscle strength among elite swimmers. 44 elite swimmers were recruited from the Hong Kong China Swimming Association. Supraspinatus tendon condition was evaluated using diagnostic ultrasound imaging and shoulder internal and external rotation strength was evaluated by the isokinetic dynamometer. Pearson's R was used to study the correlation between shoulder pain and supraspinatus tendon condition and to evaluate the association between isokinetic strength of shoulders and supraspinatus tendon condition. 82 shoulders had supraspinatus tendinopathy or tendon tear (93.18%). However, there was no statistically significant association between structural abnormality of supraspinatus tendon and shoulder pain. The results showed that there was no association between supraspinatus tendon abnormality and shoulder pain and there was a significant correlation between left maximal supraspinatus tendon thickness (LMSTT) and left external rotation/ concentric (LER/Con) and left external rotation/ eccentric (LER/Ecc) shoulder strength (p < 0.05) while internal rotation/ external rotation (IR/ER) ratio can also be a significant predicator on LMSTT >6mm (R 2 = 0.462, F = 7.016, df = 1, p = 0.038).
