Objective: A hybrid approach is being employed increasingly in the management of peripheral arterial disease. This study aimed to assess the surgical site infection (SSI) incidence of hybrid revascularisation (HR) compared with common femoral endarterectomy (CFEA) alone. Methods: This was a retrospective review of consecutive patients who underwent CFEA or HR alongside CFEA between 2017 and 2021 including one year of follow up. The primary outcome was SSI incidence. Secondary outcomes included length of surgery, duration of admission, further revascularisation surgery, limb salvage, and death. Differences in outcomes were assessed with the Student's unpaired t test, chi square test, and Fisher's exact test. Results: A total of 157 groin incisions from 155 patients were included: 78 had CFEA procedures and 79 had HR procedures. No statistical difference was found between groups for age, sex, and indication for surgery. Surgical site infection occurred in five of the CFEA patients (6%) compared with seven of the HR patients (9%) (p = 0.77). The HR procedures took significantly longer, with an average of 299 minutes compared with 220 minutes for CFEA (p < 0.001). No statistically significant difference was identified for length of admission: median stay five days for CFEA vs. four days for HR (p = 0.44). Major amputation was performed within one year in five of the CFEA procedures (6%) and five of the HR procedures (6%) (p = 1.0). Further revascularisation surgery was attempted in two patients in the HR group and six patients in the CFEA group (p =. 17). No statistically significant difference was found in the one year mortality rate: eight CFEA (10%) and seven HR (9%) (p = 0.77). Conclusion: Patients who underwent HR alongside CFEA did not have a statistically significantly increased incidence of SSI, despite increased surgical time. Using HR techniques enabled patients to have multilevel disease treated in one stage without an increased incidence of SSI.

Background: Dysmenorrhoea may also affect the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) may be disrupted among adolescent women. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of dysmenorrhoea and its impact on quality of life among medical and nursing students. Methodology: A cross sectional study conducted from November 2014 to January 2015 at Chirayu Medical College and Hospital in central India, among 311 medical and nursing students using a Health Survey Questionnaire from the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36 (SF-36) to determine the HRQoL(Health related Quality of Life) of the study subjects. Results: Total 311 study subjects were studied, among them 202 (64.95%) were MBBS & 109 (35.05%) were nursing students. The average age of the students was 19.9 ± 1.6 years. 91.63% study sub- jects were Hindu by religion. The overall prevalence of dysmenor- rhoea was found to be 72.02 % (n = 224). In those with dysmenor- rhoea the scores received from all the domains of HRQoL were lower. It was statistically significant using student t test. Conclusions: Dysmenorrhoea is a very common problem among adolescent girls; it affects their quality of life. HRQoL decreases with the increase in the severity of dysmenorrhoea.

Soil salinity is one of the major constraints to crop production worldwide. The multifaceted nature of salinity tolerance traits complicates plant screening and the identification of salt‐tolerant germplasm to be used for the genetic advancement of corps. Many screening criteria have been suggested to distinguish between genotypes. Most of these were applied under controlled environmental conditions and limited to one developmental stage of plants. As a result, most of the reported tolerance could not be validated under field conditions. This study employed a membership function value (MFV) to assess NaCl tolerance of eight wheat (Triticum aestivum) genotypes measured at germination, vegetative and reproductive stages, as an integrative tool for the overall plant performance. Salt stresses had an adverse effect on plant physiological (residual transpiration, stomatal density, chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics; leaf N, Na+ and K+ content) and agronomical (plant height; biomass; root and tiller number; grain) characteristics. Based on this assessment, plants were divided into three contrasting groups: salt tolerant, moderately salt tolerant and salt sensitive. Although genotypes did not show the same degree of tolerance in germination, glasshouse and field experiments, the variety Yu‐07 showed consistently better performance in all trials, whilst Aus19720 was most sensitive in glasshouse and field experiments. The temperature of lithium-ion batteries rises linearly and is kept within a safe range by the battery management system during normal vehicle operation. However, if external factors or motor current exceeds the standard current limit for a short time, the battery temperature may rise exponentially. If the rate of temperature rises too high and exceeds 250 °C, it causes chemical reaction inside the battery, resulting in thermal discharge. The chemical reaction that occurs due to high temperature is irreversible and can quickly lead to fire, causing the electrical vehicle to go up in flames. An artificial Intelligence-based Battery Management System (BMS) can predict the rise in temperature, monitor safe current level, avoid thermal depletion of the battery, and warn the user. Waterlogging is an environmental stress, which severely affects barley growth and development. Limited availability of oxygen in the root zone negatively affects the metabolism of the whole plant. Adventitious roots (AR) and root cortical aerenchyma (RCA) formation are the most important adaptive traits that contribute to a plant's ability to survive in waterlogged soil conditions. This study used a genome-wide association (GWAS) approach using 18,132 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a panel of 697 barley genotypes to reveal marker trait associations (MTA) conferring the above adaptive traits. Experiments were conducted over two consecutive years in tanks filled with soil and then validated in field experiments. GWAS analysis was conducted using general linear models (GLM), mixed linear models (MLM), and fixed and random model circulating probability unification models (FarmCPU model), with the FarmCPU showing to be the best suited model. Six and five significant (approximately −log10 (p) ≥ 5.5) MTA were identified for AR and RCA formation under waterlogged conditions, respectively. The highest −log10 (p) MTA for adventitious root and aerenchyma formation were approximately 9 and 8 on chromosome 2H and 4H, respectively. The combination of different MTA showed to be more effective in forming RCA and producing more AR under waterlogging stress. Genes from major facilitator superfamily (MFS) transporter and leucine-rich repeat (LRR) families for AR formation, and ethylene responsive factor (ERF) family genes and potassium transporter family genes for RCA formation were the potential candidate genes involved under waterlogging conditions. In‐crop soil waterlogging can be caused by extreme rainfall events, high ground water tables, excessive irrigation, lateral ground water flow, either individually or in concert, and together these factors inhibit potential grain yields. However, the extent to which yield is influenced by the timing and duration of waterlogging relative to crop phenology is unknown. To investigate this, we conducted a range of waterlogging treatments on modern barley genotypes differing in their waterlogging tolerance, with tolerance conferred through aerenchyma formation under oxygen deficit conditions. Experiment 1 was conducted in a controlled environment using four waterlogging treatments: waterlogging at Zadoks stage (ZS) 12.5 for 1 or 2 months (WL1 and WL2, respectively), waterlogging at ZS 15 for 2 months (WL3), and waterlogging initiated 1 day before heading for 15 days (WL4). Experiment 2 was conducted in the field with WL2. Averaged across experiments, yield was reduced by 35% in W1 to 52% in WL3 due to fewer spikes/m2 and kernels/spike. WL4 had the greatest impact on yield (70% reduction) due to its effect on spikelet fertility and grain filling. Phenology was delayed 1–8 ZS at the end of waterlogging treatments, with the waterlogging‐susceptible cultivar Franklin showing the greatest delays, and waterlogging tolerant genotypes (Macquarie+, TAMF169) capable of aerenchyma formation under waterlogging having the least delays (0–4 ZS). Genotypes with aerenchyma formation QTL (Macquarie+) showed nonsignificant yield reduction compared with nonwaterlogged controls, preventing 23% yield loss under early phenological waterlogging stress. Digital Hearing Aid (DHA) device selectively filters sound signals in subbands. Gain is added as per hearing loss mentioned in audiogram. DHA uses digital filters and amplifies processed signal, and this signal is transferred to the ear. Multiple DHA manufacturing companies all over world have innovative and miniature DHA devices in their product range. They do rigorous research and development to improve product functionalities. Most of them use design method of digital filters using selective amplification by adding gain to subband where patients have hearing loss. Nowadays, DHAs are more customized to individual patient hearing loss characteristics. Most of the available hearing aid designs use filter banks with fixed subbands. The paper focuses on reducing the complexity of the algorithms improving DHA user experience in changing noise and proposes a single reconfigurable transfer function type of digital Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter to achieve a best fitting to audiogram as per the specifications with IEC 60118-15 standard, and the processed signals are tested with ITU-TPESQ standards. The paper uses International Speech Test Signal (ISTS) standard speech audio signal to test designed filter, and the results are found to be very satisfactory compared with the fixed filter banks. The paper discusses combined or reconfigured transfer function approach for use in DHA devices and design of reconfigurable FIR filter bank with adjusting different parameters in terms of requirements of DHA. Hearing impairment is a commonly observed human health problem across the world. In "hearing loss", hearing sensitivity is reduced. To treat hearing loss problem, hearing assistive devices are used. Hearing aids restore hearing ability for those having hearing problems. But with today's most advanced technologies in hearing aids, patients still have some difficulty in understanding speech in crowded areas. Hearing aid has hearing loss match up and adjustment of the hearing aid characteristics according to an individual patient. Digital hearing-aid device amplifies sound selectively by use of digital filters and the processed signal is transferred to the ear. Hearing-aid designers are continuously trying to minimize background sounds and noise with these additional directional microphones, adaptable noise reduction filters and uses of binaural hearing aid technologies to improve localization. Lots of studies have been already done to design digital filters for selective amplification. Most of the available hearing-aid designs have digital filter bank and fixed sub-band structure. Previous research aims at creating band decomposition, and the research is focused on using less complex algorithms for accomplishment of the decomposition of signals. Mechanical milling and subsequent annealing in air at temperatures between 210 and 1200 °C have been carried out on high purity ZnO powder to study the defect generation and recovery in the material. Lowering of average grain size (from 76±1 to 22±0.5 nm) as a result of milling has been estimated from the broadening of x-ray lines. Substantial grain growth in the milled sample occurs above 425 °C annealing temperature. Positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) analysis of the samples shows a distinct decrease of the average lifetime of positrons very near the same temperature zone. As indicated from both x-ray diffraction (XRD) and PAL results, high temperature (>700 °C) annealed samples have a better crystallinity (or lower defect concentration) than even the nonmilled ZnO. In contrast, the measured optical band gap of the samples (from absorption spectroscopy) does not confirm lowering of defects with high temperature annealing. Thermally generated defects at oxygen sites cause significant modification of the optical absorption; however, they are not efficient traps for positrons. Different thermal stages of generation and recovery of cationic as well as anionic defects in granular ZnO are discussed in the light of XRD, PAL, and optical absorption studies. Waterlogging remains a significant constraint to cereal production across the globe in areas with high rainfall and/or poor drainage. Improving tolerance of plants to waterlogging is the most economical way of tackling the problem. However, under severe waterlogging combined agronomic, engineering and genetic solutions will be more effective. A wide range of agronomic and engineering solutions are currently being used by grain growers to reduce losses from waterlogging. In this scoping study, we reviewed the effects of waterlogging on plant growth, and advantages and disadvantages of various agronomic and engineering solutions which are used to mitigate waterlogging damage. Further research should be focused on: cost/benefit analyses of different drainage strategies; understanding the mechanisms of nutrient loss during waterlogging and quantifying the benefits of nutrient application; increasing soil profile de-watering through soil improvement and agronomic strategies; revealing specificity of the interaction between different management practices and environment as well as among management practices; and more importantly, combined genetic, agronomic and engineering strategies for varying environments. Background: Tobacco stalk is one kind of abundant crop residues in China. The high lignification of tobacco stalk increases its reusing cost and the existing of nicotine will cause serious pollution. The biodegradation of lignocellulosic biomass has been demonstrated to be an environmental and economical approach for the utilization of plant stalk. Meanwhile, many nicotine-degrading microorganisms were found in nature. However, microorganisms which could degraded both nicotine and lignin haven't been reported. Therefore, it's imperative to find some suitable microorganisms to break down lignin and simultaneously remove nicotine in tobacco stalk. Results: The nicotine in tobacco stalk could be degraded effectively by Trametes versicolor, Trametes hirsute and Phanerochaete chrysosporium. The nicotine content in tobacco stalk was lowered to below 500 mg/kg (a safe concentration to environment) after 10 days of fermentation with Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes versicolor, and 15 days with Trametes hirsute. The degradation rate of lignin in the fermented tobacco stalk was 37.70, 51.56 and 53.75% with Trametes versicolor, Trametes hirsute and Phanerochaete chrysosporium,respectively. Meanwhile, 24.28% hemicellulose was degraded by Phanerochaete chrysosporium and 28.19% cellulose was removed by Trametes hirsute. Through the enzyme activity analysis, the main and highest ligninolytic enzymes produced by Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Trametes hirsute and Trametes versicolor were lignin peroxidase (88.62 U x L-1), manganese peroxidase (100.95 U x L-1 ) and laccase (745.65 U x L-1 ). Meanwhile, relatively high and stable cellulase activity was also detected during the fermentation with Phanerochaete chrysosporium, and the highest endoglucanase, exoglucanase and filter paper enzyme activities were 0.38 U x mL-1, 0.45U x mL-1 and 0.35U x mL-1, respectively. Moreover, the products in the fermentation of tobacco stalk with P. chrysosporium were identified with GC-MS, besides the chemicals produced in the degradation of lignin and nicotine, some small molecular valuable chemicals and fatty acid were also detected. Conclusions: Our study developed a new method for the degradation and detoxification of tobacco stalk by fermentation with white rot fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes hirsute. In order to screen more microorganisms for the biodegradation of tobacco stalk and explore its application value in the reusing of tobacco stalk. One bacterium strain H02 was screened out from soil for detecting its selective degradation of lignin in tobacco stalk and relative higher laccase production when fermentation with tobacco stalk in liquid state. The identification of 16S rDNA sequence indicates that the bacterium is belonged to Bacillus sp. It showed the highest laccase enzyme activity of 332.41 U/mL at 10 d after fermentation and the removal ratio of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose were 15.68%, 5.58% and 19.66% respectively. Calcineurin B-like protein (CBL)-CBL-interacting protein kinase (CIPK) network is one of the vital regulatory mechanisms which decode calcium signals triggered by environmental stresses. Although the complicated regulation mechanisms and some novel functions of CBL-CIPK signaling network in plants need to be further elucidated, numerous advances have been made in its roles involved in the abiotic stresses. This review chiefly introduces the progresses about protein interaction, classification and expression pattern of different CBLs and CIPKs in Arabidopsis thaliana, summarizes the physiological roles of CBL-CIPK pathway while pointing out some new research ideas in the future, and finally presents some unique perspectives for the further study. The review might provide new insights into the functional characterization of CBL-CIPK pathway in Arabidopsis, and contribute to a deeper understanding of CBL-CIPK network in other plants or stresses. Student departure from higher education institutions (HEIs) in South Africa has recently garnered renewed enthusiasm with attempts by researchers to understand and address its impact on university statistics. Whilst studies initially focused on the aetiology of student departure, the pendulum has now started to swing in the direction of the elements and environments for students achieving success in higher education. A key perspective involves gaining insight into what students think they need to ensure they achieve success. This article reports on undergraduate students' conceptions of what their support needs are at a university in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa. The data draws from a questionnaire administered as part of a mixed methods study on student departure. The findings indicated a myriad support needs articulated by the students across all years of study that serves to affirm Benjamin's theory on the complex nature of students' lives that impacts on them. An interesting finding was students' request for physiological support, that is, a basic need for food. Another key finding was that of the students' on-going need for psychological support given the stressful nature of their academic and personal challenges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Student departure1 from higher education (HE) has become a scourge undermining efforts to increase throughput at institutions in post-apartheid South Africa. It is largely viewed through a national/institutional 'rates' lens. When students have been participants in studies, their voices have been subdued methodologically. This article reports on the causes of student departure by foregrounding students' voices. It draws on qualitative data from a study at a KwaZulu-Natal higher education institution (HEI). The findings comprise institutional career derailment, lack of counselling, financial requirements, and academic work demands. Collectively they indicate student relative deprivations, signalling the need for greater institutional engagement with students in order to address their needs. The article argues for the institution to include and expand safety nets for students, especially increased, effective support personnel to overcome the culture of student silence when experiencing stresses. The Upward Bound Programme (UBP) was a model of intervention to redress access of previously disadvantaged students to higher education. Upward bound was conceptualised on the assumption that by exposing school learners to university life and giving them additional academic tuition, their chances of accessing university education will be enhanced. In this article we offer an understanding of the success of such an intervention. We argue that gaining access into higher education goes beyond attaining appropriate pass rates. Data generated through a tracer study project was used to explore the workings of the UBP as a useful tool for creating conditions of hope and possibility. Success and access, however, are shaped by a range of contextual and personal forces that make the educational transformational agenda of the country a challenging responsibility. The microwave dielectric CaZrO3 has been prepared in nanocrystalline form by high-energy ball milling an equimolar powder mixture of CaO and monoclinic (m) ZrO2. The formation of CaZrO3 is noticed in the X-ray diffraction pattern of 2 h ball-milled powder. At the early stage of milling, up to 4 h, the weight fraction of CaZrO3 increases rapidly and then slowly reaches almost the saturation value of ∼73 wt% within 18 h of milling. It is observed that in the course of milling, the weight fraction of c-ZrO3 increases continuously from its starting value, ∼2.5 wt%, to ∼43 wt% within 2 h of milling, and then reduces slowly to its starting value. It seems that the c-ZrO3 phase has been stabilized by CaO and takes part in the formation of CaZrO3 by mechanochemical reaction of nanocrystalline CaO and c-ZrO3 crystallites. However, post-annealing of 2, 6 and 18 h ball-milled samples results in the formation of ∼95 wt% CaZrO3 phase. The formation mechanism, phase transition kinetics, structure and microstructure changes in terms of lattice imperfections and relative phase abundances of individual phases have been estimated from the analysis of X-ray powder diffraction data of unmilled, ball-milled and post-annealed samples by Rietveld powder structure refinement. Soil salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses restricting plant growth and development. Application of plant growth regulators (PGRs) is a possible practical means for minimizing salinity-induced yield losses, and can be used in addition to or as an alternative to crop breeding for enhancing salinity tolerance. The PGRs auxin, cytokinin, nitric oxide, brassinosteroid, gibberellin, salicylic acid, abscisic acid, jasmonate, and ethylene have been advocated for practical use to improve crop performance and yield under saline conditions. This review summarizes the current knowledge of the effectiveness of various PGRs in ameliorating the detrimental effects of salinity on plant growth and development, and elucidates the physiological and genetic mechanisms underlying this process by linking PGRs with their downstream targets and signal transduction pathways. It is shown that, while each of these PGRs possesses an ability to alter plant ionic and redox homeostasis, the complexity of interactions between various PGRs and their involvement in numerous signaling pathways makes it difficult to establish an unequivocal causal link between PGRs and their downstream effectors mediating plants' adaptation to salinity. The beneficial effects of PGRs are also strongly dependent on genotype, the timing of application, and the concentration used. The action spectrum of PGRs is also strongly dependent on salinity levels. Taken together, this results in a rather narrow "window" in which the beneficial effects of PGR are observed, hence limiting their practical application (especially under field conditions). It is concluded that, in the light of the above complexity, and also in the context of the cost–benefit analysis, crop breeding for salinity tolerance remains a more reliable avenue for minimizing the impact of salinity on plant growth and yield. Further progress in the field requires more studies on the underlying cell-based mechanisms of interaction between PGRs and membrane transporters mediating plant ion homeostasis. Reverse osmosis (RO) is known for the economic dewatering of dairy streams without any change in phase. At the household level, surplus milk is fermented and churned to obtain butter, which is subsequently heated to obtain clarified milk fat ( ghee ). The production of 1 kg ghee generates 15-20 kg sour buttermilk (SBM) as a by-product that is mostly drained. This causes a loss of milk solids and environmental pollution. The processing, preservation and valorization of SBM are quite challenging because of its low total solids (TS) and pH, poor heat stability and limited shelf life. This investigation aimed to transform SBM into a novel dried dairy ingredient. SBM was thermized, filtered, defatted and concentrated at 35 ± 1 °C, employing RO up to 3.62× (12.86%). The RO concentrate was subsequently converted into sour buttermilk powder (SBMP) by employing spray drying. SBMP was further characterized for its physicochemical, reconstitution and functional properties; rheological and morphological characteristics; and amino acid and fatty acid profiling, along with FTIR and XRD spectra. SBMP was "instant soluble-3 s" and exhibited excellent emulsion stability (80.70%), water binding capacity (4.34 g/g of protein), flowability (28.36°) and antioxidant properties. In nutshell, a process was developed for the valorization of sour buttermilk to a novel dairy ingredient by employing reverse osmosis and a spray-drying process.

Horticultural production is a vital catalyst for economic growth, yet insect infestations reduce horticultural crop yield and quality. Pesticides and other pest control methods are used during planting to eliminate pests that cause direct and indirect losses. In such situations, endophytic entomo-pathogenic fungi (EEPF) can act as a potential tools for biological control. They protect plants by boosting growth, nutrition, morpho-physiology and salt or iron tolerance. Antixenosis, antibiosis and plant tolerance change insect performance and preferences. EEPF- plant colonisation slows herbivore development, food consumption, oviposition and larval survival. EEPF changes plant physio-chemical properties like volatile emission profile and secondary metabolite production to regulate insect pest defences. EEPF produces chitinases, laccases, amylases, and cellulases for plant defence. Recent studies focused on EEPF species' significance, isolation, identification and field application. Realizing their full potential is difficult due to insufficient mass production, storage stability and formulation. Genetic-molecular and bioinformatics can help to build EEPF-based biological control systems. Metagenomics helps study microbial EEPF taxonomy and function. Multi-omics and system biology can decode EEPF interactions with host plants and microorganisms. NGS (Next Generation Sequencing), comparative genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, metatranscriptomics and microarrays are used to evaluate plant-EEPF relationships. IPM requires understanding the abiotic and biotic elements that influence plant-EEPF interaction and the physiological mechanisms of EEPF colonisation. India is affected strongly by the Coronavirus and within a short period, it becomes the second-highest country based on the infected case. Earlier, there was an indication of the impact of pollution on COVID-19 transmission from a few studies with early COVID-19 data. The study of the effect of pollution on COVID-19 in Indian metropolitan cities is ideal due to the high level of pollution and COVID-19 transmission in these cities. We study the impact of different air pollutants on the spread of coronavirus in different cities in India. A correlation is studied with daily confirmed COVID-19 cases with a daily mean of ozone, particle matter (PM) in size ≤ 10 μ m, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide of different cities. It is found that particulate matter concentration decreases during the nationwide lockdown period and the air quality index improves for different Indian regions. A correlation between the daily confirmed cases with particulate matter (PM 2.5 and PM 10 both) is observed. The air quality index also shows a positive correlation with the daily confirmed cases for most of the metropolitan Indian cities. Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) started in Wuhan province of China in November 2019 and within a short time, it was declared as a worldwide pandemic by World Health Organisation due to the very fast worldwide spread of the virus. There are a few studies that look for the correlation with infected individuals and different environmental parameters using early data of COVID-19 but there is no study so far that deals with the variation of effective reproduction number and environmental factors. Effective reproduction number is the driving parameter of the spread of a pandemic and it is important to study the effect of various environmental factors on effective reproduction number to understand the effect of those factors on the spread of the virus. We have used time-dependent models to investigate the variation of different time-dependent driving parameters of COVID-19 like effective reproduction number and contact rate using data from India as a test case. India is a large population country that is highly affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has a wide span of different temperature and humidity regions and is ideal for such study. We have studied the impact of temperature and humidity on the spread of the virus of different Indian states using time-dependent epidemiological models SIRD, and SEIRD for a long time scale. We have used a linear regression method to look for any dependency between the effective reproduction number with the relative humidity, absolute humidity, and temperature. The effective reproduction number shows a negative correlation with both relative and absolute humidity for most of the Indian states, which are statistically significant. This implies that relative and absolute humidity may have an important role in the variation of effective reproduction number. Most of the states (six out of ten) show a positive correlation while two (out of ten) show a negative correlation between effective reproduction number and average air temperature for both SIRD and SEIRD models., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Inc. India is one of the countries in the world which is badly affected by the COVID-19 second wave. Assembly election in four states and a union territory of India was taken place during March-May 2021 when the COVID-19 second wave was close to its peak and affected a huge number of people. We studied the impact of assembly election on the effective contact rate and the effective reproduction number of COVID-19 using different epidemiological models like SIR, SIRD, and SEIR. We also modeled the effective reproduction number for all election-bound states using different mathematical functions. We separately studied the case of all election-bound states and found all the states showed a distinct increase in the effective contact rate and the effective reproduction number during the election-bound time and just after that compared to pre-election time. States, where elections were conducted in single-phase, showed less increase in the effective contact rate and the reproduction number. The election commission imposed extra measures from the first week of April 2021 to restrict big campaign rallies, meetings, and different political activities. The effective contact rate and the reproduction number showed a trend to decrease for few states due to the imposition of the restrictions. High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of temporal bone helps in understanding the complex anatomy of temporal bone and in identifying disease in temporal bone. However, its role in diagnosing cholesteatoma and analyzing its extent and complications is not established unequivocally. Present study was undertaken to check sensitivity and specificity of HRCT in diagnosing cholesteatoma and assessing its extent and in identifying ossicular destruction and other complications. In this prospective study in 50 patients with clinical diagnosis of cholesteatoma, preoperative high-resolution temporal bone CT scans axial and coronal view were carried out and compared with intra-operative findings. Kappa statistics was used for radio-surgical correlation. Comparison of CT scan findings with intraoperative findings revealed perfect correlation for sigmoid plate erosion, mastoid cortex dehiscence and scutum erosion, strong correlation for erosion of malleus, posterior superior wall and peri labyrinthine cells, good for erosion of incus and stapes, labyrinthine fistula, tegmen erosion and extent of disease and moderate correlation for facial canal dehiscence. HRCT scan of the temporal bone is useful preoperative investigation for cholesteatoma surgery for identification and documentation of ossicular status, location and extent of disease, erosion of tegmen or sinus or labyrinthine dehiscence, with the exception of facial canal dehiscence. Background: Tobacco stalk is one kind of abundant crop residues in China. The high lignification of tobacco stalk increases its reusing cost and the existing of nicotine will cause serious pollution. The biodegradation of lignocellulosic biomass has been demonstrated to be an environmental and economical approach for the utilization of plant stalk. Meanwhile, many nicotine-degrading microorganisms were found in nature. However, microorganisms which could degraded both nicotine and lignin haven't been reported. Therefore, it's imperative to find some suitable microorganisms to break down lignin and simultaneously remove nicotine in tobacco stalk., Results: The nicotine in tobacco stalk could be degraded effectively by Trametes versicolor, Trametes hirsute and Phanerochaete chrysosporium. The nicotine content in tobacco stalk was lowered to below 500 mg/kg (a safe concentration to environment) after 10 days of fermentation with Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes versicolor, and 15 days with Trametes hirsute. The degradation rate of lignin in the fermented tobacco stalk was 37.70, 51.56 and 53.75% with Trametes versicolor, Trametes hirsute and Phanerochaete chrysosporium, respectively. Meanwhile, 24.28% hemicellulose was degraded by Phanerochaete chrysosporium and 28.19% cellulose was removed by Trametes hirsute. Through the enzyme activity analysis, the main and highest ligninolytic enzymes produced by Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Trametes hirsute and Trametes versicolor were lignin peroxidase (88.62 U · L -1 ), manganese peroxidase (100.95 U · L -1 ) and laccase (745.65 U · L -1 ). Meanwhile, relatively high and stable cellulase activity was also detected during the fermentation with Phanerochaete chrysosporium, and the highest endoglucanase, exoglucanase and filter paper enzyme activities were 0.38 U · mL -1 , 0.45 U · mL -1 and 0.35U · mL -1 , respectively. Moreover, the products in the fermentation of tobacco stalk with P. chrysosporium were identified with GC-MS, besides the chemicals produced in the degradation of lignin and nicotine, some small molecular valuable chemicals and fatty acid were also detected., Conclusions: Our study developed a new method for the degradation and detoxification of tobacco stalk by fermentation with white rot fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes hirsute. The different oxidative enzymes and chemical products detected during the degradation indicated a possible pathway for the utilization of tobacco stalk.

Calcineurin B-like protein (CBL)-CBL-interacting protein kinase (CIPK) network is one of the vital regulatory mechanisms which decode calcium signals triggered by environmental stresses. Although the complicated regulation mechanisms and some novel functions of CBL-CIPK signaling network in plants need to be further elucidated, numerous advances have been made in its roles involved in the abiotic stresses. This review chiefly introduces the progresses about protein interaction, classification and expression pattern of different CBLs and CIPKs in Arabidopsis thaliana, summarizes the physiological roles of CBL-CIPK pathway while pointing out some new research ideas in the future, and finally presents some unique perspectives for the further study. The review might provide new insights into the functional characterization of CBL-CIPK pathway in Arabidopsis, and contribute to a deeper understanding of CBL-CIPK network in other plants or stresses., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic activities of Allopolyherbal formulation (APHF) consisting of combinations of three well known medicinal plants used in traditional medicines (Trigonella foenum graceum, Momordica charantia, Aegle marmelos) and synthetic oral hypoglycaemic drug (Glipizide-GL). The optimized combination of lyophilized hydro-alcoholic extracts of drugs was 2:2:1 using OGTT model. The optimized PHF was simultaneously administered with GL and optimized using OGTT model in diabetic rats and further studied in STZ-induced diabetic rats for 21 days. The results (serum glucose level, lipid profile, hepatic enzymes and body weight) were compared with the standard drug GL (10 mg/kg body wt). The optimized APHF (500+5 mg/kg body wt) has shown significant antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic activities. The results were comparable with the standard; even better than the GL (10 mg/kg body wt) alone. The proposed hypothesis has reduced the no. of drug components from eight to three and dose almost 50% of both PHF and GL which fulfil the FDA requirements for export. Thus the developed APHF will be an ideal alternative for the existing hypoglycemic formulations in the market with an additional advantage of hypolipidemic effect and minimizing the cardiovascular risk factors associated with diabetes.
